Could not get past the voice. I'm not saying I could sing better, but I'm also not putting out albums.
Prince · 1 likes
3/5
It's good, just very long and not typically what I would listen to
The Last Shadow Puppets · 1 likes
1/5
Longest 35 minutes I've spent in a while. Every song was pretty samey and there were a couple times I checked the playlist to make sure a song didn't get duplicated. No thanks.
The Offspring · 1 likes
3/5
Early pop punk, fun stuff. It's a high 3 for me, giving it 3 stars since I don't actually ever play this myself. I'd rather turn on some NOFX instead

Television
2/5
Mostly fine but ultimately not for me.
AC/DC
4/5
I've not fully listened to AC/DC before this, only catching them on the radio. Great album! Definitely want to check out more of them now
Common
3/5
Good beats and good songs. Not all were a hit, but had some stand outs
Coldplay
2/5
I never cared for their radio hits so had never put on the album. There were a couple good tunes that weren't on the radio, but I found myself looking at the playlist often and hoping it would be wrapping up soon
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
Pretty good, definitely liked the first album more than the second
3/5
Not bad, though I need to be in a certain mood for 60's concept album/psychadelic rock
William Orbit
3/5
If I didn't see the release year, i would have guessed '90s. Starts off good, really drops off at the end. Last handful of tracks had me looking at the playlist to see when it would be over.
Hanoi Rocks
3/5
Perfectly serviceable rock, good for background music.
John Martyn
3/5
A couple good tracks, but overall not my style
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
Amy Winehouse
3/5
Not bad, but it's no Back to Black
Soul II Soul
2/5
Mix tape style, not for me
Meat Puppets
4/5
Good album, seemed fairly experimental. Will check out more of their work.
Laura Nyro
1/5
Very much not for me
Fleet Foxes
3/5
Pretty good, I'm guessing this was the origination of all the stomp-clap-hey songs that released in the few years after this.
Steely Dan
2/5
It was fine. Adult contemporary I guess?
The Beach Boys
2/5
It was fine. Adult contemporary I guess?
Air
4/5
Love this album, a 4.5 star album if I've ever heard one but I have to give it a 4 due to 'You Make it Easy' being on the album. The only skippable track on it.
Tears For Fears
3/5
I can see why most of the tracks here were put on the best of album. The remaining tracks that weren't on the best of aren't great unfortunately, leading to an unbalanced album as a whole
Prince
3/5
It's good, just very long and not typically what I would listen to
Cat Stevens
4/5
It was actually quite good even though I don't listen to much singer/songwriter type music
Aretha Franklin
4/5
The queen of soul, gotta check out more of her music
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
3/5
Pretty okay. Many many samples originating from this one and then also a surprise christian song in there.
Calexico
3/5
Some really good tracks mixed in with some forgettable/background tracks
Electric Light Orchestra
3/5
If you like Queen but thought they rocked too hard, this is the band for you
Neil Young
3/5
I'm torn between liking the music and being annoyed by his voice
Lauryn Hill
1/5
I didn't dislike it as much as I thought I would, still very much not for me.
Nico
1/5
no thanks
The Chemical Brothers
4/5
A great album, feels aimed for the clubs. I like what they eventually morphed into better, but this is a solid album. An actual score of 3.5 would be apt
Pink Floyd
3/5
A classic! Better than Dark Side or the Wall, but not as good as others.
The Allman Brothers Band
2/5
Barely into live albums for my favorite bands, let alone this one
Siouxsie And The Banshees
2/5
I like some of their stuff, but this wasn't it
Radiohead
4/5
Great album, should listen to it more often
Public Enemy
3/5
Count Basie & His Orchestra
3/5
Good, though not something I would really ever listen to
Nirvana
5/5
a classic for a reason
The Beau Brummels
2/5
It was fine, labeled as rock but definitely sounded more folk
Ramones
3/5
Good stuff, but it's hard to listen to the whole album since it's all very samey

Madonna
1/5
There were a couple times I caught myself thinking "maybe this one will be okay?" But they weren't. Soulless pop trash
Travis
1/5
Aggressively boring
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
Bob Marley & The Wailers
2/5
I just have never gotten into Bob Marley.
Robbie Williams
1/5
I didn't feel the immediate gut-punch revulsion at this, but just because it wasn't immediate doesn't mean I didn't feel it eventually.
Black Sabbath
4/5
Groundbreaking for it's time, still good nowadays
The Last Shadow Puppets
1/5
Longest 35 minutes I've spent in a while. Every song was pretty samey and there were a couple times I checked the playlist to make sure a song didn't get duplicated. No thanks.
Beck
5/5
One of the best breakup albums I've listened to
R.E.M.
5/5
This is the best REM album by a mile, still holds up
Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
Great debut, great tunes
The Temptations
3/5
Solid
U2
2/5
They're just not for me. This album isn't horrendous, but I'd never willingly play it.
The Go-Betweens
2/5
It wasn't horrendous, just boring.
Sam Cooke
3/5
Pretty solid live album. Can almost feel the energy he brought to the performance.
Stan Getz
2/5
More like bossa no-thank you. It's fine, very much not my style. It's so background music, that I forgot I was listening to something
Elliott Smith
2/5
This one didn't do it for me. I liked his final album which had a more electric sound, this was too acoustic-guitar-singer-songwriter vibes which I don't typically listen to.
Wu-Tang Clan
4/5
Classic
1/5
I found that if the song I was listening to wasn't fully boring me, then it was actively annoying me.
Big Brother & The Holding Company
3/5
The Louvin Brothers
2/5
It was fine, very much of it's era. Made it a little over half way, the songs just all sounded pretty same-y
Yes
2/5
I just haven't gotten bit by the prog rock bug
The Velvet Underground
4/5
Great stuff
Teenage Fanclub
2/5
Joy Division
2/5
It's not monotone, but it's not not monotone. Didn't vibe with me at all
Jane's Addiction
3/5
I keep wanting to like these guys based on their singles, but it turns out I only like the singles
Queen
4/5
Fantastic album with some stone cold classics
1/5
I understand the cultural impact, but cannot get past their voices. I'd rather listen to fingernails on a chalkboard
The Lemonheads
2/5
It's..... fine. All kinda samey. Good for it's time, doesn't hold up without nostalgia
Serge Gainsbourg
4/5
There are a lot of movies, books, and tv shows about bad people. This is another one. The music is great however, and I'm pretty sure that not understanding French is a plus.
The Prodigy
3/5
I haven't listened to much of Prodigy, but I really enjoyed this one. Some songs went on a little long which is why it's getting a 3 instead of 4
Kraftwerk
2/5
Unfortunately this came just a day after a Prodigy album, and boy has the technology changed. I understand they were hugely influential to this style of music, but I've never been able to get into them really.
A Tribe Called Quest
3/5
a great precursor to Low End Theory, just not quite as good
Paul Simon
4/5
Sheryl Crow
2/5
I started thinking I'd be giving this album a 3, but then I listened to the whole album. Some serious clunkers on here surrounded by generic pop. Meh. I'll give it 2 stars because I was able to listen to all of it, but that's all it'll get
Wild Beasts
1/5
Absolutely not. Boring music with horrendous vocals on top of it
Radiohead
3/5
Close to a 4, but it's a very solid 3. Some great tunes but then a couple clunkers that bring it down.
David Bowie
2/5
Meh. I just haven't gotten into Bowie outside of some radio hits, and this absolutely did not change my mind
Billy Bragg
2/5
No thanks. It's got Hoodoo Voodoo which is a fun song, the rest are meh at best.
Les Rythmes Digitales
3/5
Some fun and funky tunes. Jaques Your Body Makes me Sweat, About funk, and Music makes you lose control are the standouts for me. The first track is just a bummer for some reason, almost turned me off the entire album. I'll likely pop this back on at some point.
Fatboy Slim
4/5
Back in the day I had a roommate with a 25 CD boombox. 10 of the slots were filled with Dave Matthews Band, the 11th was this album, the rest were empty. Fatboy Slim was a breath of fresh air whenever that came on the random playlist.
Still just a great album.
N.W.A.
5/5
The Offspring
3/5
Early pop punk, fun stuff. It's a high 3 for me, giving it 3 stars since I don't actually ever play this myself. I'd rather turn on some NOFX instead
Lambchop
1/5
Not sure how this is labeled as a rock band, it's adult contemporary/easy listening at best. After the first 3 songs I started skipping songs after a minute if it didn't catch me, so I listened to a minute of the rest of the album. Hefty no thank you.
Sufjan Stevens
5/5
The first 'new to me' artist/albums that's gotten a 5 star rating. Incredibly well done album
Derek & The Dominos
2/5
It's not horrible, but it's not great and got boring real fast. There's very little chance I put this on again in the future.
Black Sabbath
5/5
I'd never listened to the non-radio tracks before; great album. Easily a 4.75 for me, but I gotta round up to 5
The Police
4/5
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this record. I don't like Every Breath You Take and I give or take the other radio hits, but the non-radio tracks were the real stars here. Very good
ABBA
2/5
I first heard of Abba because I had a cat named Fernando. Everyone kept asking if I named him after the Abba song, so I checked them out. I almost considered changing his name, but I named him Fernando because it just fit him. I still miss him, he was the sweetest kitty ever.
Any way, Abba. No thanks. I'm not a pop fan, and this is just disco flavored pop music with all songs sounds pretty similar enough. It's not hateful, but it's just bland.
The Jesus And Mary Chain
2/5
I would definitely consider this an 80s emo band/album, and it turns out I'm just not a fan
Motörhead
2/5
I'm not a live album type of person. Who needs a slight variation of a song with worse sound quality, and none of the energy from actually being at the show? At any rate, this album was pretty good with the qualifier "for a live album".
The Who
2/5
I'm not a live album type of person. Who needs a slight variation of a song with worse sound quality, and none of the energy from actually being at the show? At any rate, this album was pretty good with the qualifier "for a live album".
That first paragraph was from yesterday when I was served Motorhead's live album. Both have been 'hailed as the best live album ever', and both were.... fine. For a live album.
Songhoy Blues
3/5
A good mix of African and American music. I probably won't go back to this again, but I'm glad I listened to it.
Einstürzende Neubauten
3/5
There were some very great diamonds in the (very) rough on this album. It would be very hard for me to go back to it, but I loved having something different on the list
2/5
This is live album number 3 in the last 4 days. Still annoying. I get that this live album was their debut, but still has all the trapping of live albums: bad sound quality, unfun banter, and just being annoying.
1/5
A group of people come across a brick of cocaine and a pile of instruments. After doing all the coke they decide to see who can play an instrument the fastest.
The German noise band was way more interesting than this one
The Smiths
2/5
Music was good, I don't like Morrisey's voice (or his politics, and I'm guessing if I knew him personally, I wouldn't like his personality either)
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
I have to be in the right mood for singer/songwriter style music where it's just a person and their guitar. Also not helping is the fact that I've never cared for anything Springsteen has done, and this did not change my mind.
The Everly Brothers
2/5
The lyrics for sure don't hold up anymore, and the music is fine. I've always enjoyed Cathy's Clown and didn't know that the Nazereth song Love Hurts was actually a cover of the Everly Brothers.
The Strokes
3/5
I like the music, but really don't care for his voice.
The Smiths
1/5
Couldn't get through this, his voice was worse than nails on a chalkboard to me
R.E.M.
4/5
I really love Automatic for the people, and when I've listened to their other albums they jut don't click. Having said that, I did also enjoy this album. The introduction of the mandolin in their work was a good move.
Miles Davis
3/5
Not bad at all, but really not my style and not something I feel like diving deeper into
David Bowie
4/5
I never thought I would listen to a Bowie album that I would enjoy. I may actually even come back to this one
Elvis Costello
3/5
I like Elvis Costello, but I'm not sure if it's just the few songs I've heard or what. This album was fine, I wouldn't pick it again
R.E.M.
3/5
It's good, but I like what they became after this album more
Metallica
3/5
I have mixed feelings on this one. It was their first album I listened to, and I dug it. That was 25 years ago at this point, and my taste in metal has grown a lot since then. I liked this album at the time, but it doesn't really hold up for me. It's got some good stuff, but the overall tone just doesn't sit well with me anymore.
Alice In Chains
4/5
I really dig the metal/grunge music but this band always eluded me. Of course I heard all their big hits, and I think that's what drove me away. The songs were fine, but never really captured me. The rest of the album is great and I'm kinda bummed I missed out on them for so long. Will for sure be listening to them more now
Tracy Chapman
2/5
This is a very good album if lyrics are important to you. I see the vocals and lyrics as an instrument and don't really pay attention to what they're saying unless it's something truly inane. Musically it's a very good album, I just don't tend to listen to singer/songwriter stuff
John Cale
3/5
I liked this more than I was expecting, some pretty fun rock songs
Sigur Rós
2/5
It was fine. It's not really 'trance' music, but it's also not not trance.
The Stone Roses
2/5
It was fine. Somehow one of the 'best albums of all time' but didn't grab me at all
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
Nostalgia's playing a bit of a part in this review, but I still really like this album. This one and One Hot Minute are just great.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
It was a good album, maybe if I spend more time with it it'll turn out to be a great album, but I don't know if I want to do that.
Grizzly Bear
3/5
It was fine. Turns out there was one song I know. Non offensive indy music
Spacemen 3
3/5
If this was given to me back in my weed/jam band/psychedelic rock days, it would have been my jam. Good stuff, just not a style I listen to nowadays.
5/5
Just great all around. No notes
Joni Mitchell
2/5
If this is Joni Mitchell's best, then Joni Mitchell is not for me
Paul Simon
2/5
Meh. If folk-pop is a thing, it's probably this. But without the typical poignant lyrics you'd typically find with folk music
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
He's gotta be one of my favorite artists I never listen to. Time and place kinda thing, I guess
Ray Charles
3/5
I'm not a country and western music fan, but I did enjoy Ray Charles' renditions of those songs.
Jethro Tull
4/5
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It was like if you had a renaissance fair band and gave them some electric instruments
Dire Straits
3/5
Not too bad. Garage-dad rock?
Bee Gees
2/5
No thanks. I'm down for a concept album, but this one is for sure not for me.
CHIC
2/5
The first song played and I figured this would be an easy 3 star album, since disco's never fully grabbed me. Then the rest of the album played and it was a really long half hour. Kept looking to see when the album was done. This would be a 1 star album if the first track didn't exist.
808 State
3/5
This was pretty good, it felt closer to a later '90s techno album than '89. I probably won't revisit, but I enjoyed it
OutKast
4/5
I haven't listened to this in forever and it still holds up. Can be a bit lengthy
Beatles
4/5
It's poppy Beatles. It's good, just not as good as what's to come
Sister Sledge
2/5
I thought this was going to be a fun album since I knew and enjoyed We Are Family, but it turns out this is not for me at all.
The Monkees
3/5
It was fine? Feels like standard 60s pop. I was reading it was the first album they got to write, and well, good for them, but also... their first two albums were better.
JAY Z
3/5
I think this is an objectively good album that does absolutely nothing for me. Also runs a bit long, chop maybe 20 mins off and it would probably be a banger
Marvin Gaye
3/5
Pretty good . Better than I was expecting, but not good enough to enter my rotation
The Who
3/5
It was fine, didn't blow me away, didn't hate it
Fugees
2/5
It's an album for people who care about lyrics, and I'm definitely not one of those people. The music is fine.
The Doors
3/5
I groaned when I saw I was going to be listening to the doors today, I've never cared for them. I enjoyed this album a lot more than I was expecting! Still didn't care much for the radio singles, but the rest of the album was pretty good.
Orbital
2/5
I liked '90s electronica and forgot about Orbital. Now I remember why, not a huge fan of background music like this
Kendrick Lamar
2/5
It was fine. I honestly never really heard of Kendrick Lamar until the whole superbowl thing so I was surprised I knew the 'drink' song (I already forgot the name)
Paul McCartney and Wings
4/5
Good album! I remember hearing Band on the Run as a child and then being confused later in life when I couldn't find it on a Beatles album.
Arctic Monkeys
2/5
It was fine? Nothing really stuck out to me except the dance floor song, and that's mostly because I heard it a bunch when it first came out. I suppose the best part of this album is that I woke up this morning with my mind playing "I wish that you looked good on the dance floor... ", so that's kind of amusing.
Taylor Swift
1/5
"Alexa, write me a contemporary pop album with an occasional 80's style synth sound. Make it sound unique, but also so familiar that anyone will be able to at least hum along with it the first time they hear it." I'm sure there's more to it, but is sure doesn't sound like it. I'm completely out of the hype loop on this one
Boards of Canada
2/5
It's fine. Not a huge fan of 'background' music like this unless I'm reading or doing something where I need to focus
Peter Gabriel
2/5
I enjoyed the radio songs, the rest was meh.
Fela Kuti
2/5
This was going to be a solid 3 star for me, an enjoyable funk/soul live show. It went a bit downhill when they started the 10+ minute drum solo on the final track. Maybe it's because I'm not a drummer, but anything longer than a minute or two and it's a "you had to be there" kind of thing.
Sex Pistols
4/5
I've never actually listened to the full album before, but I liked it more than expected.
Billy Joel
4/5
I liked it more than expected, I've only known his radio stuff.
Sade
2/5
Technically competent, thoroughly not for me
Joni Mitchell
1/5
Any lyrics-first type of album starts with a disadvantage with me, and this is very much a lyrics-first album. Also I do not like her voice, and the accompanying music wasn't for me either
Beatles
5/5
Easiest 5 I've given, such a great album.
Nick Drake
5/5
I've said it before; singer/songer-writer and lyrics first albums are going to have a tough time getting a good rating for me. That said, this album is beautiful. One of the best minimalist albums I've listened to. I think a big part of it is that I'm also a big Beck fan, and I can hear how much influence Nick Drake has had on Beck in this album. Also one of the first albums here that ended and I immediately replayed it. Love it.
Girls Against Boys
3/5
I enjoyed this one but it didn't blow me away. Vocals were reminiscent of Trent Reznor. Music was good.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
1/5
I've never liked Bob Marley and every time he comes up here I hope to have my mind change. Nope. Not this time.
Kendrick Lamar
3/5
Good, but uneven. Some good tunes, some good beats, but then the skits. And some okay-at-best songs.
Elton John
4/5
I haven't listened to much Elton John, but this was a pretty solid album.
Solange
2/5
Went into this with a more negative frame of mind since I really don't care about Beyonce or pop music, but was pleasantly surprised by it. This is probably better than anything I've heard by Beyonce, but it's still not my style of music at all.
The White Stripes
2/5
It was.... fine. I don't get upset when the White Stripes are playing, but I never seek them out to play them on my own. This is easily a 2.5 for me, but I think a 2 rating here because, again, I will never play them intentionally.
Various Artists
1/5
No thanks to christmas music, no thanks to Phil Spector
Run-D.M.C.
4/5
Great album
Talking Heads
3/5
It was good. Not bad, but good.
Black Sabbath
3/5
Pretty good
The Band
3/5
I'm not super familiar with both of their music, but for some reason I always thought the Grateful Dead did the Cripple Creek song. Anyway, the album is fine. Not great, not bad. an easy 2.5. I'll give it a 3 here since I had fun imagining Kermit sing a couple songs
Megadeth
4/5
Pretty good. I like metal but haven't listened to Megadeth much at all.
Supergrass
2/5
It was fine? Perfectly serviceable. Honestly, I had it on and didn't really notice it, so it didn't really stand out at all
Sabu
1/5
I thought, maybe it's just not for me but I could see the technical competence or something, but I couldn't even get past the second track. Not for me for sure
Arcade Fire
1/5
According to google my top genre for the last couple years has been 'Indy'. I don't care for this bland, I mean band.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
3/5
Some good stuff, some okay stuff. Not hitting with me today, but I feel if I gave this more time it probably would.
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
I've never been a Bruce Springsteen fan and this did nothing to change my mind
The Beta Band
2/5
It was fine? Kinda background music. Didn't really pay attention, didn't really grab my attention
Barry Adamson
4/5
I really dug this one. Lots of variety, and good, captivating stuff. Added this to my library.
CHIC
2/5
It's fine. 2.5, rounding down to 2 because some of the songs just went on too long. Good instrumentalists, but nothing really stood out
Moby
4/5
Lots of variety, great album.
Nick Drake
3/5
It was good, but definitely not as good as Pink Moon
Scott Walker
1/5
This is absolutely not for me. Lyrics-first, big (small? medium?) band style music. Pass x10.
The Waterboys
2/5
It was.... fine. Irish folk jam band? Not really hitting with me, not terrible.
Alanis Morissette
4/5
Great stuff
Frank Sinatra
2/5
I can recognize the talent; he does have a great singing voice. But, this is not for me.
Fleetwood Mac
3/5
Good album! It's probably a bias since I've heard them a lot more, but I definitely like the radio songs more than the others.
The Youngbloods
3/5
This was pretty good, a lot of variety in the album; more than I was expecting. I might try to listen to this one again
Milton Nascimento
2/5
Good, but had a hard time getting into it
The Temptations
2/5
Started off on a great, funky note then slowly turned into R&B. I prefer a funky sound personally.
The Mamas & The Papas
3/5
Great harmonies and tunes. I had never really looked up M&Ps before this and didn't realize they were only a band for a small number of years. Got some incredible hits out of them in this time.
Basement Jaxx
3/5
Fun fact, I heard a cover of 'Where's your head at' on my way into work this morning and was struggling to remember the name of the original artist. Then I open up this page to get my album of the day and see Basement Jaxx; what a fun coincidence! It may not be on this album, but it was still the same artists out of potentially hundreds of artists. Overall okay, I think Red Alert saves it, brings it up to a 3 on that song alone.
Boston
4/5
For a debut album, not too shabby. This could have definitely been a best-of album as well. Good stuff.
Willie Nelson
2/5
They were good covers, but not sure why this was on the list?
The White Stripes
2/5
I enjoyed the radio songs, the rest were absolutely forgettable.
Funkadelic
2/5
It was.... fine? Maybe not funky or groovy enough for me. More background music. Though I enjoyed learning where doo-doo chasers came from, I've only heard Ween's version and didn't know it was a cover until now.
Liz Phair
2/5
It seems to be a lyrics first type of album, and the music didn't grab me. Meh.
The Human League
2/5
Probably groundbreaking for it's time, it sounds like generic 80's synth pop by a one hit wonder
Scritti Politti
1/5
I've never listened to this album before, but I've heard it a million times. Standard 80s pop filled with drum machines and surprisingly little synths. hum-drum
The Black Keys
3/5
This is a solid album, I'm really torn between 3 and 4. I like some of their later stuff better, but this is sufficiently blues-rock enough that I still dig it.
I guess I'll go with a 3 since I never pick this album to play. We'll see if that changes in the future.
Depeche Mode
4/5
I can see why this is a highly lauded album, I just haven't listened to much Depeche Mode before this
Silver Jews
1/5
Could not get past the voice. I'm not saying I could sing better, but I'm also not putting out albums.
Meat Loaf
1/5
Not a musical fan, so I wasn't surprised to find out this was adapted from a musical. No thanks.
The Band
3/5
It was fine? Good back ground music, not much more.
The Fall
2/5
Didn't quite sit right with me, couldn't get into it
Scott Walker
1/5
Not a crooner kinda guy. All showmanship, and really didn't like the style. The description says this was regarded as his best work, so here's hoping it's the only one of his on the list
Super Furry Animals
4/5
I tend to have a soft spot for fuzzy/indy sounding music from the mid 90s, and this doesn't disappoint. Definitely want to come back to this and listen some more
Def Leppard
2/5
I think I just realized why I never got into hair/glam rock. I don't like musicals. Glam rock is just a musical that's "rockin' out!". Too much emoting throws it into the uncanny valley of emotion and it just feels forced or fake.
This time, though, I'm gonna throw on an extra star for Pour Some Sugar On Me, cause it's just a fun song
Fats Domino
3/5
I enjoyed this more than I expected. Fun stuff
Norah Jones
2/5
She's got a great voice, but here we go again with the singer/songwriter thingy but this time add jazz. I couldn't get through the whole album, not my style.
Pixies
4/5
Good album. This one is for sure a 3.5, and I'll round to 4
Dusty Springfield
2/5
Good album to listen to, but for an album released in the mid-60s this sounds dated from the late 50's. Is it because white people finally found soul music?
The Cramps
3/5
I like some good rockabilly music and this disappoint. My biggest complaint here is that the songs were all pretty same-y and didn't quite grab me as an album as I hoped it would.
The Who
2/5
Kinda oversteps as a concept album. Maybe I just don't get it, or maybe it's my tendency to dislike musicals and over-emotive songs/albums. Couple good tracks, but I'll listen to those when they pop up on the radio.
The White Stripes
4/5
Mostly good album. White Stripes is another band like Foo Fighters where I never choose to listen to them even if I enjoy them while they're on. The radio hits shine here, the rest is fine. I dig the lo-fi/basic sound.
Mj Cole
1/5
I feel like there had to be better albums than this in the same genre come out before 2000. Insanely boring, inoffensive background music. I just kept waiting for something interesting to happen, no dice. Generic. Could not finish
Jane Weaver
4/5
I really enjoyed this one, very reminiscent of Charlotte Gainsbourg's album written/produced by Beck. Definitely want to throw this back on again
The La's
3/5
It was fine, perfectly serviceable '90s alt rock. I kinda wonder if the album is on the list because of There She Goes? No way to know.
Talking Heads
3/5
It's good, but I feel a bit overhyped. Very enjoyable though.
The Police
3/5
I wasn't sure what to expect since I haven't really cared for the Police songs I've heard on the radio, but I ended up enjoying this album. Not quite as much 'reggae' as promised by the title, but that ended up being a good thing.
The Young Rascals
3/5
Not too bad. Kinda 'standard' mix of 60's pop/psychedelic pop
Love
2/5
Late 60's, folky kinda album. Didn't do much of anything for me other than make me check the time to see how much longer I would be listening to it
Bob Dylan
2/5
Never been a Bob Dylan fan, goes back to the whole singer/songwriter, lyrics first thing. I kept waffling back and forth between a 2 or a 3, but I've run out of patience and it gets a 2.
Pink Floyd
4/5
It's a great album, brought down by being beaten to death by radio stations. Give me everything Pink Floyd - pre-80s and excluding The Wall and Dark Side and I'm a happy guy.
Van Halen
4/5
I love metal and rock, but have never gotten into glam/hair metal. This was a solid album, and an incredible debut as well. Love it.
Tricky
2/5
If "meh" was an album. Also a pretty good example of why trip-hop didn't survive the 90s/early '00s
3/5
"Standard" psych rock. Probably would have hit different back in my younger days when I would crank on the black light and load a bowl and enjoy some music.
Radiohead
3/5
Radiohead is a band I should like, but I'm just kinda meh about them. Their good songs are incredibly good, but the rest are meh at best. This album is fine.
Parliament
4/5
Fantastically funky, a pretty good funkin' album.
Michael Kiwanuka
4/5
I immediately saw singer/songwriter and braced myself for some self indulgent BS, but was quite pleasantly surprised by what this turned out to be
Screaming Trees
2/5
An absolutely forgettable album. Nothing stood out, either good or bad.
3/5
World's okayest beatles soundalike band. Not terrible, not great. Not going to become part of my rotation, but I didn't hate it.
Patti Smith
2/5
A lot of spoken word. A couple of the songs have fun music, but overall very much not for me.
The Velvet Underground
3/5
I've really only listened to Velvet Underground and Nico album so wasn't sure what to expect. I enjoyed this one, I don't think it's mind blowing but it is very enjoyable.
David Bowie
3/5
It was fine. I've never cared for Bowie, I've never disliked him. I like some songs, I nothing most songs. Nothing here really caught my attention.
Nirvana
4/5
It's good? I enjoy Nirvana but rarely pick them to listen to
Sebadoh
3/5
Seemed similar to early Beck, the glue-sniffing years. Not bad, I'll try to come back to this and listen again
Kid Rock
1/5
This one takes me back. I was a rock/rap/nu metal fan back in the day (still am) and this was a fun album. That said, he's a giant piece of shit and there are some instances where I can't separate the art from the artist. Fuck this guy.
Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
3/5
For music I have no history with and really no understanding of, it's pretty good. Little bit of disco mixed in with the salsa. And then there's my standard complaint of most songs sounds very similar, but I'm sure that comes from my lack of understanding of the style.
Snoop Dogg
4/5
I didn't listen to this much back in the day because I didn't care for the hardcore 'gangsta rap'. Yes the lyrics are juvenile, but he was basically a kid when he put this out, plus it was the '90s so things have changed since then. I never did, and still don't, care for the skits in the middle of the album, those can just be dropped. Great album otherwise
Joy Division
2/5
It's.... fine. Just not a fan of mopey albums.
Jimmy Smith
1/5
Personal rating - not for me. My wife, who used to DJ the jazz hour at a radio station, asked me to skip it and switch out the music.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
One of the best double albums. First album - 5/5. Second album 4.5/5. Love it.
The Go-Go's
3/5
Pretty fun album, can definitely see the punk origins even if I wouldn't consider it punk.
Incubus
1/5
I can't believe this was the followup to S.C.I.E.N.C.E.. That was such a good album, then they made ... this. I know most bands have a goal to make it big, but when you sacrifice sound for popularity (*cough* Sugar Ray *cough*) you lose me. Enjoy your mediocrity, you could have had something good.
