Reviews (page 4 of 14)
graveyard train, WOW.
It’s hard for me to be objective, as I have always been a big fan of this band and they were huge during my formative years. But I still think it’s a really good record…and John Fogarty’s voice is so unique. My only criticism is that a couple of the songs run a bit too long, binging it down to a four from a five. I hope that there are more CCR albums on this list.
Great Rock Album. Beyond the obvious tracks Inthink the album is as good, if not better as I hadn’t been saturated by them
This album just kept on chooglin’
Great rock and blues guitar album and fun
Strictly speaking, I shouldn’t really like CCR’s music. Too much blues, too much country, too much America, too much Dixieland romanticism for my taste. And yet I love Fogerty’s music. The sound seems to be deeply rooted in the South (even though Fogerty is from California); the music is heavy, mystical, sweaty, yet at the same time drawn straight from life. With their second album, ‘Bayou Country’, the band found their signature sound: ‘Born on the Bayou’ and ‘Proud Mary’ are the blueprint for future greatness. This is the good stuff.
I already knew Proud Mary beforehand, but the songs sound really cool! Very similar to each other with the rock vibes, but still really good listen, especially for a lock in study session.
great album
3,5
This is Jammin' man.
When born on the bayou started, I knew I was in the right place. Proud Mary… yes! Could have done without the good golly Miss Molly cover… but love me some ccr. 4.4
Enjoyed this. Probably doesn’t have a lot of staying power for me. 7/10 Quite Likeable
This album knows how to evoke an atmosphere.
I enjoy this album but not the band of that makes sense
Really enjoyed the American, country vibe to it. Some of the songs sound similar to one another, but added a fair few to my liked songs and playlists.
fav songs: born on the bayou good golly miss molly penthouse pauper proud mary groovy, warm, gritty 70/100
Not my favourite Creedence but any Creedence is good Creedence. Fav tracks: Good Golly Miss Molly, Proud Mary Saved a song: Y RYM: N
This is not their best work but with Proud Mary the album has one of CCRs ultimate hits.
4.2

YeaCCR!
Berekely, CA meets the Bayou. Still great though!
Great rock and roll album. Good to listen to in a roadtrip. Not the best of CCR, although. In scale to 10, something about 7,3/10
Music very much of it’s time.
Great
"Graveyard Train" isn't my favorite. 9 minutes long, low energy, and very repetitive. The rest of the album is pretty great. Probably gonna settle at a 4, but it's not too far off from a 5. Solid classic rock.
Seven solid tracks of it's time
Denso pero ya se mostraba su genialidad
Love ccr! Got me into a 60s vibe yesterday?
Born on the Bayou - 4.5/5 Bootleg - 4/5 Graveyard Train - 3.5/5 Good Golly Miss Molly - 4/5 Penthouse Pauper - 3.5/5 Proud Mary - 4.5/5 Keep on Chooglin' - 3.5/5 By no means their best album, but does have two pretty good tracks in Born on the Bayou and Proud Mary. The rest of it is pretty meh unfortunately. The one thing I do like about CCR is that they get in and get out with most of their albums, coming in at a nice 33 minutes so I didn't get tired of my second similar-ish CCR album within the past two weeks. Overall: 4/5 Favorites: Born on the Bayou, Proud Mary
Un blues, un sonido oscuro, un buen disco. 7.50/10
Some mighty fine chooglin’.
Like it
this is fire. perfect for gaming. didn't expect to like the slight leaning into "country" aspects but it really helped bring it all together.
Album 157. Bayou Country — Creedence Clearwater Revival (1969) Badass rock album that includes blues, folk, country and southern style. The sound is charming. I'm gonna relisten to it later and probably I'll add more songs to my playlist. 4/5 Liked: — Born On The Bayou — Proud Mary
Would have given 4.5 stars. Great. Love a cool crisp 35 min album. Anything longer than 45 starts to lose my attention
I really enjoyed this album, I’m familiar with some of CCR’s albums, I don’t think this is there best, but Fogerty’s vocals are peak 1960’s Americana, makes you want to sit by a swamp and drink a few beers with your mates.
From the days when rock could be gentle and tuneful until, oh no, the lead singer starts screaming out the vocals. The lyrics are non too inspiring either. But all the time the guitar sound keeps this album going with a laid back blues sound of quality. The guitar does some screeching too which is hard to take at points but I'm not a fan of the whole guitar solo thing. Proud Mary brings together the best features of this band's sound and appears on the album just in time to allow you to conclude that there's some real talent happening here - excellent. Overall it's probably best in class for a blues rock sound of this era.
No wonder The Dude wanted his Creedence tapes back
Wonderfully fun swamp rock. Great for what it is, but very setting dependent. Would blast this out of a helicopter flying through the jungle or an airboat cruising through the everglades, but not so much otherwise.
Usually not my thing. Had a good listen to this album. Maybe because the songs like Proud Mary is a song I've listened to a lot before.
Lots of classics!
I love CCR, a love that was instilled in me early from my dad playing their records. This is a strong album of theirs, and a frequent listen. Love it!
Pretty good
It got me nostalgic but in a good mood. I used to skate to Keep On Chooglin'.
Another solid Creedence album. Just a dead on 3.5 band to me. I’ll lean this one to 4 bc it put me in a good mood today.
Definitely realizing I much prefer the muddier, murkier Delta Blues to its Chicago rival(?). This is great, sounds like a more accessible version of Beefhearts more accessible couple of albums...
Very good. CCR really helps me appreciate this type of rock.
Great vocals, classic sound
First ever listen through. Not my usual thing but fun to listen to with undeniable influence
Solid vibes
Love their sound.
Too good!
Really really fun. Nothing too groundbreaking but just a really solid bluesy album, as expected from CCR. Great when it embraces jam elements more.
If we'd simply listened to CCR we might not be in a fascist hellscape today.
Good but not incredible
My 2nd CCR album and it's another cracker. Not *quite* as good as Cosmos Factory for me, but still pretty great. Born On The Bayou, Bootleg and Good Golly Miss Molly are all fantastic but Penthouse Pauper is the best of the 7 songs for me. I could listen to John Fogerty sing anything, what a voice.
p158. 1969. 4 stars. Now we're talking. Possibly the world's greatest bar band on top form, with some classic songs. Point deducted for a redundant cover and for excessive late 60s wankage on some of the tracks, but on the whole this is fine.
A beautiful classic rock album!
Keep on chooglin'
Blues
No CCR album is a 5/5 for me. There is always filler, but because of that their best of compilations are among the greatest albums released. There are still classics here, and the rest is great, but forgettable. 4/5
That kind of blues!
Good!
Of course this is a classic, great driving and/or sunny music. Keep on chuggin’ 😎
8/10 It ain't meeee
Chuck the 8 minute slog of a track out and this is a bona fide swamp rock classic
Another solid album by my favorite Bay Area bayou boys.
CCR brings another incredible song and otherwise consistent sound to an album. 3.5 rounded up
I mean, the main attraction here is a near-perfect song in Proud Mary, but I'm excited to see what CCR has here. I’d say it’s pretty good, but not quite as varied as their other work. I’ve heard them called the American Beatles, which is a bit much, but I think their capacity for just churning out a lot of really solid music without getting overly fancy with it is similar. Obviously the Beatles eventually got experimental. But this is just really solid basic music.
I know he defines the verb "to choogle" in the lyrics, but I still don't get it and don't think I ever will. Anyways, four stars.
Good fun!
Solid
This list probably didn't need more than one CCR album. There's not really much more that you're going to learn about these guys after one album. If you like it, you like it. But I'm not necessarily mad at having to listen to it. As far as Southern blues/hard rock goes, there's really no one better. I'm not even really a big fan of this subgenre, but it's hard to argue with the intensity of their sound and John Fogerty's vocal performances. "Proud Mary" is a clear highlight but there's not a bad track on here.
Creedence! Love these guys. This isn’t their best work but it’s a wonderful listen. #310
Soooo much chooglin’ but yet I’m left wanting even more. Is CCR a top 3 US band of all time? I’ve never had a bad time listening to a Creedance album and I doubt I ever will. I wonder how people from Louisiana feel about them? California boys blatantly appropriating their culture. I’m consistently hypocritical on this topic. If you can’t pull it off it’s one of the worst things you can do as an artist, but if you can pull it off (CCR, Stones, etc) you’ll be one of my favourite bands of all time.
3.8 Thought the longer jams were pretty interesting. I once went to a Fogerty arena show and the crowd was at least 90% indigenous, took me by surprise,
I mean what could I say about CCR that hasn't been said before? What a voice. Chords that turned into classics. 9958379 cover bands. But I would tolerate assholes blasting their bluetooth speakers out in the serene lake campsite 80% more if they played this whole album instead of Katy Perry interspersed by Born In The USA and Kid Rock. As far as the actual album goes, I like the flow of it. I especially like the energy shift from (my fav) Graveyard Train to Good Golly Miss Molly. And ending on instrument solos is just fun. 33 minutes of easy country rock is already my kind of thing so I enjoyed it. Even if I was missing a coors for the experience.
John Fogarty? I've played golf with him and you'd think he's some fucker who likes to bite the heads off of chickens but this guy can get it out of the sand trap like nobodies fuckin business
Graveyard Train
Rolling on the river ja muut klassikot. Kuinka makee meno kokonlevyn ajan.
I like this sort of thing. I liked this record. Proud Mary was my least favourite song. 4
A rock n roll au sec
Very nice reminds me of my papa
3.5 - Another band I should probably do a deep dive on. I like all of these songs.
Love that band. Very blusey.
I was expecting this to be a bit of a one hit wonder album with Proud Mary but I ended up really liking it. Wouldn't really go out of my way to listen to the other songs but could see myself listening in full on occasion.
Some very good songs sandwiched with some more forgettable ones. Four stars seems low for an album with Proud Mary and Born in the Bayou on it, but it is what it is.
Yeah pretty good! Easy listening, very enjoyable. We've listened to Creedance Clearwater Revival in this house before so it's but unfamiliar
Groovy, powerful, rock and roll. John Fogerty’s voice is full of soul. An album you can dance to, head bang, or sit down in a quiet room and ponder the lyrics. Excellent.
This album is great.
Love me some CCR, solid album overall. Graveyard Train is hella long though.
Pretty diverse set of songs with big changes in the sound between tracks. Fogerty is a great guitarist and his growly voice is distinctive. Didn't know he was from California and the whole Bayou persona is a character.
Album # 33, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Born on the Bayou ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I was only delighted to see this come up this morning. I fucking love Creedence Clearwater Revival. They’re easily in my top 10 favourite bands of all time, and I regularly binge them throughout the year. I’ll probably end up on a bit of a binge now after listening to this. They’ve written some of my all time favourite songs. Run Through the Jungle, Born on the Bayou, Ramble Tamble. I regularly play these and never get tired of them. I just can’t fault this band. I love all the individual parts of them. Their guitar playing is class. Their riffs are so memorable. And John Fogerty’s voice is just iconic. One of the most unique and best singers in rock music, I think. I saw him live about seven or eight years ago and he still had it. Still great. Great lyricist. Wonderful songwriter. I love how danceable they are. No wonder they had such huge hits, because there’s such a groove to their music. On the longer tracks, like Keep On Chooglin’, you’ve got that repetitive rhythm in the back and you just get sucked into it. This isn’t their best album. That’s probably belongs to Cosmo’s Factory or Willy and the Poor Boys. But it’s still Creedence, and it’s still great. It’s got some iconic songs like the title track and Proud Mary. Some great deeper cuts like Bootleg. And Penthouse Pauper is just a gas tune. It’s funny and it makes you think. It does have a weak spot. Really only one, but it’s a long one. Graveyard Train is just too long. I get it, and it is a suitable change of pace, but for me it’s not very interesting. It’s their Muddy Waters blues jam, but it’s not the best of their long jams. Nor is “Keep On Chooglin’.” I wouldn’t rank that as highly as something like “Ramble Tamble,” even though it is still very good. Those two tracks take up a lot of the album, so that weakens it and probably takes a star away. But you still have John Fogerty absolutely ripping it, and for that alone it has to be at least four stars. If you don’t really know Creedence, I’d actually say start with a greatest hits. Even though the albums have great deep cuts, I’d argue they’re the best greatest hits band of all time. They were a hit machine and wrote some of the best singles of that era. So I’d seek out a compilation before diving into the albums.
Born On The Bayou — очень неплохо.
good creedence
Not as distinctive as some of their later stuff but you can see how they develop from here to get there. A nice listen
Good album, could use some more vocals
happy care free nice rhythm crazy for their time a bit country / southern gritty vocals
feels like eating bbq outside on a sunny, clear friday or enjoying people watching with your nosy grandma. i actually really like this 4 stars.
Another album that isn't my favorite, but don't know a CCR album that would be rated below a 4. 4/5
Good
rock n rollll
äntligen lite swamp rock
Great. What a voice. Loves it
Found myself chooglin’ along to this one.
Love the opening track and a couple of others. Bit of a meh middle and I prefer the Tina Turner cover of Proud Mary - never though I would say that!
I didn’t think the Cosmo album we’ve had in here was that great. This one, however, is much more what I was expecting. It’s a real victory of rhythm, swagger and groove over any overly complicated songsmithery or technical skills. Just a nice fun laid back listen, what’s not to like.
For being a group that formed because of the Vietnam war, they could really jam out
So many iconic songs!! I’d love to be at an outdoor venue high on 70s weed in bell bottoms and a peasant top with little yellow glasses just jamming to this from front to back. No wonder the boomers yearn for this time.
Great album! Got to love a bit of creedence.
4.5
Not my favorite, but still a rock classic.
what can you say about CCR that hasn't been said. Love "Born on a Bayou". i also really dug "Bootleg" and their cover of "Good Golly Miss Molly"
Loved this alblum. Not quite a 5 but awfully close. Could almost be a Greatest Hits alblum.
Awesome roots rock and blues album. I greatly appreciate the grit on this album, from the awesome and deep guitar tones, to the gravely vocals and the occasional harmonica. Everything about this slaps: I especially love Born On The Bayou, Graveyard Train, and Keep On Chooglin. The outro on that last song is just so insane. Fantastic album from front to back!
I don't know what swamp rock is, but by golly is it good! 4/5
*Great early CCR album *Proud Mary is a classic *I prefer Cosmo's Factory
good album, psychedelic but not pretentious. Nice that it was a little over 30min, too
I’m in Louisiana
I discovered CCR when I bought Cosmo's Factory on vinyl for 2 pounds from a record fair in Bolton a decade ago. Despite loving that album and playing it fairly regularly, I haven't listened to anything else until now. This coming out the year before that one, it wasn't going to sound massively different, although there were two more albums between them, which is pretty incredible! It is a similar vein though of swampy, bluesy, roots rock, perhaps just more raw and not quite as accomplished. That's no bad thing though, this is a great listen and I'll be looking out for it at record fairs and car boot sales in the future.
Can't really go wrong with Creedence. They have their sound and style and they do it very well. Always warms the heart.
8 out of 10, really enjoyed the consistency of the guitars and I felt like I was in a bar in the deep south and just wanted to dance
Fun, very well written
amazing
Great
Probably their 3rd or 4th best album— so not a home run, but a solid double. Would be higher if there were more than 7 tunes (one of them being an unnecessary, jammy Little Richard cover).
Listened twice as only 33 mins, then Cosmos Factory and Green River (favourite). 1. Born On The Bayou 2. Graveyard Train 3. Proud Mary 4. Keep On Chooglin'
I don’t know how to chooglin’ but if I did I would keep on
The is album makes my choogles choog:
classic!!!
I gotta admit: I really dig John Fogerty's voice. It's got such character and distinct feel. Like I know what CCR is doing overall isn't original per se, but they sound really fuckin' good when you listen like you haven't heard certain songs a million times. The overall tone is great and the band is locked into the groove, like not distinct musicians but a unit. It's like two elements: the sound and Fogerty's voice. I dig this album. Skipped "Good Golly Miss Molly" 'cause I really don't need to hear it, but dug all the other tracks.
4/5. A great swamp rock album. CCR is a remarkable band. They do so much with relatively little in the way of instrumentation, and Fogerty's vocals are in a class of their own. There's a few songs on here that have serious staying power, like "Proud Mary," "Born on the Bayou," and "Good Golly Miss Molly," but the rest of it is great too. It's not CCR's best album, but it's a damn good one and worth a listen or two.
these guys don’t miss
after a decade of struggling along under different names with varying degrees of success, Creedence Clearwater Revival first hit the big leagues with a rendition of "Suzie Q" from their 1968 self-titled debut LP. the chart success of that single laid the groundwork for their follow-up album, Bayou Country, which peaked in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 and gave the band its first top-ten hit, the iconic feel-good tune "Proud Mary". CCR's critical and commercial success, particularly their three-album run in the year of 1969, is largely credited to John Fogerty's decision to step it the hell up as the band's de facto leader. he wore a number of hats I'd personally feel way out of my depth wearing: lead guitarist, lead singer, producer, arranger and main songwriter. this is also the album where CCR really hit on the sound they would become most well-known for, fully dropping any hints of sixties psych to pound out a series of no-frills Southern blues tunes (despite being from the Bay Area of California!). Fogerty's tendency as a songwriter is often to stick for a long time on just a single chord or riff, almost turning it into a drone of sorts; it makes it so that, when the chords finally do start moving more quickly, they feel really impactful (check out the chain of harmonic cadences that interrupts the static D major chord of "Bootleg", for example). subsequent CCR albums would fine-tune the formula they created here, often to even better results, but this has to be acknowledged as the solid foundation from which they built. decent 8/10.
pretty easy listen
not something i would listen to on the regular, but i enjoyed it. My dad likes CCR so this album reminded me of him :)
3.5
My favourite Creedence album! Great guitar work, very swampy. 4.5 stars
3.5/5

The Dude listening to Creedence dot gif
This is another one I don't have a ton to say for. CCR are one of the few bands who put on the blues rock aesthetic in a really convincing way. And Bayou Country is honestly played pretty straight. This is basically the theme upon which Cosmo's Factory is a variation. This is basically just 33 minutes worth of swaggering, hard hitting blues rock. CCR has great performances, great songs, and they really sell the aesthetic. Born On The Bayou is great, Graveyard Train is too. And Keep On Chooglin' captures a slightly jammier form of the band that they wear well. But I do like every song. I do slightly prefer Cosmo's Factory to Bayou Country, but either way, Creedence has *it*. And whatever *it* is, it's enough to sell me on 60's blues rock.
This is amazing. Definitely a 4 star maybe even 4.5 stars. Everything grooves and is so cohesive. This album doesn't overstay its welcome either. I really liked this. Actual rating...4.5 Liked Songs: "Born On The Bayou" , "Bootleg" , "Good Golly Miss Molly" , "Penthouse Pauper" , "Proud Mary" , "Keep On Chooglin' "
Man, Fogerty's voice is unmistakable and his song writing was top notch. I probably won't return to this particular album -- Chronicle Vol. 1 is enough for me -- but I dig CCR and I'm glad to see them here. Impossible to go lower than a 4.
Very good
Sape
I love Born On The Bayou. CCR is an underrated band. Good Golly Miss Molly is better when Little Richard does it. Proud Mary, I think I like the Ike and Tina version better but this is good too. One of the rare instances where a cover is better than the original.
If you had said to me "the theme song for the deep south" I would've pulled out a sound very similar to this album. I do now retrospectively find that funny considering, as other reviews have enlightened me, that this is a band from Cali and not some backwater bog. Authenticity aside the music itself is great, a very tight 30 minutes of great bass, solid solos and very influential twangs I've heard in a million places almost entirely because of this band. On some level I can only respect how effectively the marketing and aesthetic work is to how convincing the "south" vibe the band has, but it's also a real testament that I would listen to this entire album again pretty easily almost any day, tonally this album is very consistent and yet constantly pretty different in sound song to song and what could easily be jarring in transition actually presents pretty smoothly. Graveyard Train is a slow 8 minute jam with a consistent bassline and Good Golly Miss Molly is a guitar solo storm and somehow you go from one song into the other with no whiplash at all. Even if you listen to a bit of this and are offput by just how aggressively American it is, I would still at the very least recommend Proud Mary which is just a lovely catchy song. Also to tell the truth when I got this album I had to google what a bayou was. Best songs: Born on the Bayou, Proud Mary Worst Songs: N/A Rank compared to everything else so far: 33/65 (above I against I, below Boston)
Went in with low expectations, listening to it in the background blew me away. I loved this
A proper jam album - jazzy riffs over a solid, bluesy base and that signature CCR gritty vocals. Surprisingly, the album's most famous song 'Proud Mary' isn't the best example of the album's style; not as expansive or exciting as the other jam sessions. The album meanders a small bit but overall a great listen.
This is sick. Blues rock that I can dig, quite jam-bandy, sounds like a bunch of decent musicians getting into a trance-like state. Some serious groove and nice rhythmic turns, cool covers and that one big (OG?) track. Yeah this is cool.
Such great driving music. Proud Mary is a classic but loved the vibe across this whole album. Hoping for more CCR
Hard to not love CCR, though this isn't my favorite of their albums.
Good album all the songs sound very similar
Great music. Familiar songs
Good stuff. Really enjoyed this album, a few songs I already knew (Proud Mary, Born On the Bayou, Good Golly Miss Molly), the rest were just classic southern rock. My only complaint was the choogled on a bit too long on that last song, LOL (4)
Who’s down for some chooglin’?! CCR is always a solid listen, and this album was no different. A couple hits + some solid deep cuts is a decent 4/5 to me.
Hahaha Proud Mary??? CCR koliko pesama im znam <3
Album No. 0134 on my list. „Bayou“ is my second Creedence Clearwater Revival on the 1001 album list, „Cosmo‘s Factory“ being the first one and being rated with five stars. „Bayou“ is not exactly as good as that one, but it is still pretty good nevertheless. It just doesn’t make the five star mark, but it’s pretty close! It is another CCR album with nice, catchy, on-point rock songs. That even holds true for the longer songs on this album, such as “Graveyard Train”. I’ll hence add that one to my playlist, plus the obvious “Proud Mary”, and “Penthouse Pauper”. This is another great CCR album - I love that I kinda discovered this band anew through the 1001 album generator. 4/5 stars!
A very pleasant record. Swamp rock is the perfect description of it and I had some good time discovering this sub-genre through CCR. It sounds precisely what you might expect - very southern, rural americana, but not flirting with country. The instrumental part is entertaining and the vocal + delivery really get you on board. 7/10
I enjoyed this more than I expected. The whole thing is quite listenable, it's not my genre but it still feels relatively fresh for an album that's 57 years old.
'Merica.
Wow, Swamp Rock (apparently) at its finest, who knew?!
About what I expected going into it only having heard Proud Mary before.
So fun! Loved it. Very quintessential Americana.
They defined the sound of an era. Love it.
All in all, a good (not great) album. But that's to say that CCR had some really great albums, especially Willy and Cosmo's. Pretty amazing run of music to be honest. 4 deserved stars.
Greazy, greazy swamp music.
This is America
This rips
Best CCR of the lot. Low 4/5
Classic American rock.
Good record. Some fun guitar sounds there, and John Fogarty's voice is iconic. Ending on "Keep on Chooglin'" is a choice - a fifth of the record's 34-minute runtime is that song. Lots of good stuff in here for such a short album.
Quite enjoyed by the end
liked it helped me focus while studying strangely enough and was a nice vibe since i haven't listened to lots of this genre.
I love it, but these guys were not born on the Bayou. It's interesting how time have changed in terms of artists doing that, almost White Southern Minstrelsy. Not sure if it's my favourite of theirs, but it definitely bumps and lifts the spirits.
Fogerthy's voice really does it for me.
Classic innit
I got a soft spot
Fire
Never heard this before, but I choogled it right on up into my choogler and found it delivered a very pleasing choogle.
The overall musicality is exactly what I picturesque in the bayou country. The screeching with the the twang you would expect with heavy rift guitar blend it perfectly for an enjoyable listen.
CCR seems to be a bit like Bad Religion (the band): most of their stuff sounds alike, and if you like it, you're good. I do.
Well that was quick. Over in a flash. Another band where their best of /greatest hits would be the best entry for this list. Not their best songs on this album, but decent enough rootsy swamp rock. Just very short.
sounds like a humid southern summer night before a big storm. i thought it was AMAZING and definitely will give it another listen. minus 1 star only because it’s not exactly my usual cup of tea.
short and stanky! Born on the Bayou, Penthouse Pauper, and Proud Mary are stand-out tracks for me. The muggy, gravely vocals really and the swagger if the guitar riffs feel incredibly genuine and immersive. Reminds me a lot of Chris Stapleton - white guy sings the blues, and I really enjoyed it!
goes hard, born on the bayou is a great song
Deceivingly fantastic production - the kind that gels so well you don’t notice how much clarity it still offers to each instrument. Want to turn it up loud on some good speakers. Awesome vocal performance and cheeky lyrics I had a very great time, especially considering I don’t really listen to this kind of music. Like this style and energy a bit more than other rocknroll.
Born on a Bayou. Sung by boys from California. And it works! Proud Mary is terrific. Not sure about covering Good Golly....but not bad. Solid 3.5. Wishing Santa brought us decimals for this thing. So 3 or 4 I think this one eeks out a 4.
Not quit peak CCR, but almost there. This album is amazing.
Back to back swamp bangers
So the album cover slapsss as well as the first song. Great beginning, great voice, and a great cowbell. Fits very much in the time period. Best songs: Born on the Bayou and Good Golly Miss Molly Oh god that Proud Mary song will haunt me for the rest of my days omg hahaha. Overall boom liked it
Another Dad album. Not too long.
Had no idea that Proud Mary was a cover by Ike and Tina Turner
ein bisschen zu männlich, manchmal langsam/langweilig, sonst sehr gut, proud mary on TOP
Ganske bra, behagelig. Sov gjennom 70 prosent
Favourite Song: Proud Mary A number of catchy songs in the album, a little incoherence in the vocals at some points, but nothing that made songs less enjoyable by any margin. Graveyard Train seemed a little long on the outro, a lot of empty space - not necessarily a bad thing, but made the track feel a little dragging. Definitely more hits than misses!
Muy bueno proud mary iconiiccccc
Good upbeat rock and roll. Some harsh tones in there which makes me understand how they could be a Vietnam war-pushback band. Overall enjoyed.
MY KINGS!!!🎤😫😫😫
60s Swamp Rock. Classic, I prefer Willy and the Poor Boys but this ain't too far behind.
No sé si quiero saberlo.
wow , super nice & easy listen beautiful
“Keep On Chooglin’” may have to add that into my vocabulary— keep on chooglin’ dude.
Dang, CCR. Stop showing off. You’re amazing, WE GET IT.
More CCR! Another great one, though again maybe not quite as great as the others.
I thought I was giving CCRvanother 5, but this just didn’t do it for me as much.
cowboy vibes
Quite a chill blues vibe. Cool version of Proud Mary
much more fun than i was expecting. i knew this 'proud mary' version from spencer's. some songs had True Blood vibes and the others were just a good time to bop around to while getting ready.
No road trip is complete without CCR.
nice
Classic rock that sounds more modern
Amalgam US Amerikanischer Musikkultur
Instrumente 4/5, Stimme 3/5 3,5/5
CCR was an awesome band
Great vibe. If I were on a river or by a pool with the boys, I’d throw this one. Vocals are so cool
I have "Proud Mary" burnout. But there is a reason that it gets played so much that I burned out on it: it's a great song. "Graveyard Train" was a nice, slow burn for me as is the title track. Even the other songs are worth listening to because I freaking love Creedence.
Born on the Bayou - 4/5 Bootleg - 4/5 Graveyard Train - 5/5 Good Golly Miss Molly - 4/5 Penthouse Pauper - 5/5 Proud Mary - 5/5 Keep On Chooglin' - 3/5 Average score: 4.3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Very good and a classic but not my go to
Solid grooves and fogerty masterclass but dosent help they are far from being from the buyou
bluesy. rocky. folky. catchy. jam.
These guys have so many hits I’ve barely ever played any of their albums and I definitely have never heard this one. What a ride it was as I was slammed in the face with John Fogerty’s amazing voice! So damn bluesy and soulful and what a mean delivery! A couple of droning vamps to deal with on this album but it’s what they did back then and makes a nice contrast with the more succinct songs. This was a good listen and it sure makes me want to hear the rest of their albums!
This is certainly not a bad album. I really enjoyed Born in the Bayou, Proud Mary was good, and the closer was quite interesting. However, I feel like some of the tracks in the middle were a bit lengthy, and there was not as much to latch on to as I would have liked. This would be a great candidate for 3.5 stars.... I rounded down on my last album so I'll give this a 4.
Wow! Such a good rock album! Made me feel like i was driving a mustang down the road with a cigarrete on my lips blasting down the new radio hits! Great!
Noiceee
Good Golly Miss Molly fucking ROCKS
Short&Fun listen, i have read, that this is their first project in this direction- definitely excited to hear more of them/this 78/100 Favs: Born on the bayou, proud mary
Can't spell bayou rock without the bayou! Masterful record
Great album by some of the best of all time. 8.1/10
There’s other Creedence albums I like better.
Oddly, I was listening to this of my own accord earlier today, then it became my album of the day, so I gave it another listen. Such a classic record. These guys really defined their own Louisiana influenced folk rock sound, with an emphasis on ROCK.
Not my favourite CCR album, but still great.
music straight from the jukebox
Yerp that was really good
Actually never had gotten around to listening to this one. It's a solid album of the swamp rock sound you'd expect from CCR. Not as consistent as some of their later work, but excellent nonetheless .
Really like the sound of Good God Miss Molly
7.5
Ooo! Kinda jazzy country vibes to start off and I am loving it. I was scared it was gonna be boring and I'd hate it. Lots of harmomica and guitar solos, singing about half the time but jammin the other half. 9/10
So great to hear these CCR albums after only having heard the greatest hits one. Swamp blues rock is in full force on this one. What stands out to me here is Fogerty's guitar especially on the extended jams. Damn he was good. Also love the cover of "Good Golly Miss Molly." Don't know if there was a better band in the late 60's and early 70's.
John Fogerty and co dont have a lot of range, but what they lack in that department they just make up for in kickass rock and roll. This one doesnt overstay its welcome, just 34 minutes of good ol fashioned CCR. Its not as good as Green River but theres a lot to like
Real easy listening on this one. Penthouse Pauper stood out to me.
The description of this a s Swamp Rock is hilarious and somehow fitting in a serious way. Hard not to like it even if you don't want to.
Pretty easy listening, don't have too much to say outside of that.
Vana hea klassikaline kuulamine. Iga lugu on hea, mõni lihtsalt parem ja meeldejäävam (nt Proud Mary). Ma saaks CCRi ikka päris pikalt kuulata. 4/5.
CCR's albums are like the Strokes' albums: quick and you know what you're going to get. It really blows my mind that Creedence is actually a California band. This band was certainly not born on the bayou but they sure sound good (and great music for a summer cookout). Top tracks: "Proud Mary," "Born on the Bayou" (note: this is a lie), "Graveyard Train"
--Born on the Bayou...John Fogerty was born in Berkeley, CA --Bootleg...nice swing and groove --Graveyard Train...plodding --Good Golly Miss Molly...now we're kicking --Penthouse Pauper...love that bass walk. great guitar, too --Proud Mary...solid --Keep on Chooglin'...I'll keep chooglin' if someone tells me how!
My dad was a big CCR fan, and listening to them always reminds me of him.
I really like CCR. Just one of the most fun bands to listen to. Anytime their song comes on you know it's gonna be a good time. It's just the vibes, such strong positivity coming from all the songs. I like how they dive a bit into blues rock on this album here. Graveyard Train is such a nice jam, makes me feel like Im in the forest on the album cover. So many good melodies as well, Born on the Bayou, Bootleg, Proud Mary... it's just a great time!
There was a lot of soul in the vocals which I really appreciate, and I liked how it very often traded spaces with the guitar. The bass was super melodic too. My favorite songs were "Born on the Bayou" and "Proud Mary".
Long time since I listened to this good to n listen again
this whole album is a vibe, and a damn good vibe, i might say
this guys vocals are a frickin bop sinister purpose is quite good and i was happy to finally recognize a song!! also bad moon rising is fun too af
Even slower than previous CCR I've been handed, and it doesn't pick up til halfway. Lot of twiddling and faffing in this one too (and choogling, I guess). Cool as ever
Golden!
Solid work, and a classic record. I kind of lost some steam with the "Choogling" track, but overall, this was a great record. 4/5
They just sound like music that is successful and easy to listen to. Well done, makes sense, no notes.
Honestly they should have just put a CCR greatest hits on the list and called it a day. I gave the other two CCR albums 5s. This is also a pretty good listen, but doesn't quite get there.
Great album, born on the Bayou big highlight besides the obvious Proud Mary. Very nice listen and a classic for sure
This was a good one. Great grooves. Will definitely add to my playlist.
Good. And clearly Beck
3/7 all time tunes and 33 minutes - recipes for a solid rating. Just not a huge fan or it'd be higher.
A fun ,rockin’, 34 mins. Nice album.
CCR are probably my favourite find through 1001 Albums. Could be completely wrong but they feel like proper vietnam era rock and roll. Their music is excellent even if it isn't what I'd usually listen to.
great
No skips.
What’s more iconic, the vocals or the guitar tone?
4.8
You will want to watch Waterboy after the first song starts
CCR rocks and the album rocks. Such a fun listen the whole way through, it keeps me chooglin. Short album leaving me wishing it was longer. Everything about it screams CCR. Vocal performance is fantastic as always with CCR, guitar tone is so good it feels palpable, bass in Graveyard Train slowly chugs along endlessly just like the title of the song
nice, some long songs, high 4
Now this is more my speed. I was practically born on the bayou, but raised elsewhere. So I know about as much about bayou country as this band of Californians. Perhaps that’s why this album gives me a cozy feeling. I knew a few of tracks already, but the whole 34 minutes were very enjoyable. 4/5
This is great - I'm with the Dude.
Wildly inconsistent in that there are a couple just straight-up duds, but there are more hits than misses and the hits are great - "Proud Mary" (good enough for Ike and Tina to appropriate), "Keep on Chooglin' (good enough for Zep to appropriate - listen to that harmonica and tell me "When the Levee Breaks" ain't going for the same damn thing), and "Good Golly Miss Molly" (appropriated from Little Richard but I might even like it a *little* better than his version). Who cares if they're fake Southerners - Dickens wasn't an orphan either.
I dig this sound, and there are some hits on here. Some misses too, but nothing egregious-a solid 3.5. Will round up for VIBES.
This deserves 4 and a half because its real good but not quite 5 stars
The Dude is right - CCR is so much better than the fucking Eagles. Normally country/blues rock isn't my cup of tea, but CCR is great.
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard Creedence Clearwater Revival, despite knowing the name. I will admit I never knew how popular they were given they are still in the top 200 most listened too artists on Spotify. Given the recent 60’s rock albums that have been thrown up by this site I did not have my hopes up. Thankfully I was very pleasantly surprised and enjoyed this album. Might even listen to some of their other albums at some point.
