Still a great listen, I remember why I listened to them so much back then

I don't have much experience with the White Stripes apart from learning to play Seven Nation Army on a shitty key board in Year 8 music lessons and pissing about. So this will be interesting. "Hotel Yorba" is obviously very fun and a bit of a tune and I love "We're going to be friends". Turns out there's more big bangerz they have which I didn't tie with the band or something. I don't love all of the tracks and after an entire album, this does get a bit much with the tone of the vocals and the punchy guitars. Not something I'd really want to listen to all the time but it does include some bangerz which are cool to listen to now and then.

Really enjoyed this. Not sure I've ever listened to a White Stripes album in completion! There were some classics in here, like "We are gonna be friends" (which reminds me of J-Cress) and others I didn't know that were punky and fun. Liked the one about a rat

White Stripes are such a sound. The vocals, guitar and drums are all so recognisable as the White Stripes . I ruddy love it. Jack White is one of the best guitarists.

12/06/2021 Today's Album: "White Blood Cells" by The White Stripes - I don't like this album. Usually I can deal with post punk and older punk rock because of some sweet instrumentals or some redeeming quality from the whiny vocals, but with this album, it really is just blown out and shitty. The only song I liked was one I already knew prior to hearing this album and thats the only highlight on this album in my eyes. I think this band obviously has talent because they have a crazy good reputation, but either this album is some of thier worst material or their sound is just not for me Score: 2/10 Didn't like Highlights: We're Going to be Friends

Hi: I'm Finding It Harder To Be a Gentleman, Offend In Every Way, I Can't Wait Lo: Little Room, I Think I Smell A Rat The White Stripes minimalist sound is one of their strengths. Every track is well-composed and deliberate in every waveform...White Blood Cells isn't just a call back to classic rock (It has very early Led Zeppelin vibes, with crunchy Robert Plant-like guitars and powerful John Bonham-like pounding drums), it's stripped-down to the essentials. Like a house with the drywall removed, only every stud and beam are level, square, and plumb. It sounds wild, but it's deceptively precise. Having now heard the tracks that weren't in heavy rotation, I have a whole new appreciation and sense of importance about The White Stripes.

The bridge to their two greatest albums. I'll never not be utterly fascinated by Meg White. Apparently she started drumming on a whim, yet ended up thundering at times like she's the second coming of John Freaking Bonham. And this is band (fine, duo) without a bassist. I'll always be interested in anything Jack White does for the rest of his musical life, but there's already strong evidence Meg White brought out his best work. Plus her background vocals are always the perfect amount of spice. If you're like me and initially had this somewhere between a 4 and 5, give it the old "3 great songs, no bad songs" test. An apt comparison would be to call this the Stripes' Rubber Soul and Elephant is their Revolver.

As you'd expect, there's loads of energy in this, vis a vis pounding drums, distorted guitar mayhem and in-yer-face vocals. But there are some more playful movements for contrast.

I have only listened to a couple White Stripes songs previously, those being their two biggest singles. I honestly had higher hopes for this one. It wasn't bad, just not the same appeal to me as there later stuff. Maybe a 3?

Some fun, rocking moments but the tracks tend to blend together. Good for background rock music but nothing that really grabbed me and made me pay attention. Definitely nothing to complain about either, just nothing that wow'd me.

Whilst there are a couple of stand out tracks, this feels more like a collection of songs than a coherent album, so once it finished I was left feeling underwhelmed and unimpressed

First of all, let it be known that "Fell in Love With a Girl" takes its hook from Fun Lovin' Criminals' "Smoke 'Em" and nobody else noticed. But I did. I see you Jack White. Anyway, a few tracks in, I realized the sheer simplicity of every instrument and every song. And the drummer's... uh, not good. I realize the story goes that Meg unlocked something in Jack that let to their very fruitful collaboration. I can't argue at all with their success; I know also that Jack has gone on to impress me in many groups and many songs, so I know there's talent there, hiding somewhere. But this album has very little on display. And yet... I kinda dig it. They undoubtedly got lucky in some ways to make it big with this, but I shouldn't underestimate the musical power and charisma that comes across in putting 150% into your work. There's one absolute highlight. "I Can Tell That" is one of those songs that's a perfect combination of all elements: form, harmony, instrumentation, production, and the emotional content of the thing. Instant and powerful nostalgia bomb to your best friendships growing up.

I have finally listened to this band

Starts strong, realised I knew most of the songs already. Last five tracks aren't amazing.

I love The White Stripes. I'm slightly torn here. It's not my favourite of their albums but it's still brilliant. It's only 40 mins long but it's got 16 songs on it, you do the maths.

In 2004 I bought the soundtrack album of "Napoleon Dynamite" because I loved all the music, but especially for two songs. Those two songs were not on the album. One of them was "We're Going to Be Friends," which remains one of my favorite songs ever (including when sung by Jack Johnson). Had I bought this album for that song (instead of using Limewire—it was 2004 after all) I think I would have been very shocked since I was not, at that time, very familiar with the White Stripes. Oh...this is not an album of such acoustic sweetness. My first listen through was rough. All I heard was harshness—in voice, guitar, and drums. Didn't like. Started over before I finished. "Good lord, look at the praises to this album!" I noted. I'm gonna have to dig deeper and figure this out. I spent more time re-listening and reading about this album than most any I have reviewed. I watched all the videos. (The Lego one!!!) It's kind of amazing when you start to see the light, especially when, just as often, relistening reinforces and deepens your dislike. His crazy voice, the distorted guitar, and heavy percussion are raw and cool! The lyrics! "Little Room!" An homage to "Citizen Kane"! I love "Hotel Yorba." My score might be slightly inflated, just to incorporate the lovely feeling that getting a challenging assignment led to new appreciations this time.

I have heard of this group, but I really have never listened to their music before. Although I was not giddy with excitement as I listened, I really did enjoy the album. I will listen again...and again...

This isn't my favorite White Stripes album but I appreciate the intentionally spare style on display. I love Jack's youthful, crackly voice straining to hit the higher notes and Meg's steady volume on the drums. There's the perfect punk song Fell in Love With a Girl, the too short Little Room, the melancholy and melodic Same Boy You've Always Known, and Offend in Every Way somehow evoking gunslingers in the old west. A couple of the songs are relentless with the guitar, drums, and vocals all keeping the exact same rhythm pretty much the whole time (Expecting and Aluminum). My two favorites are This Protector (good lord, I am a sucker for a rock and roll piano) and the unexpected We're Going to Be Friends, which only a monster could dislike. ("Teacher thinks that I sound funny but she likes the way you sing.")

I'm familiar with later White Stripes, but not this album. This album rocks! It feels a bit like classic 70s rock to me a lot of the time, which is a good thing. "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" is one of the harder rocking songs. I wouldn't have been surprised to have heard something like this from Bad Company in the 1970s. Great opening to the album! "Hotel Yorba" has a really great jaunty beat and a fantastic chorus. SO so good. One of my favorites. "I'm Finding It Harder To Be a Gentleman" is a slower but still awesome rocker with some great organ. Really great organ. "Fell In Love With A Girl" leans away from 70s hard rock and more towards punk. It's another impressive song and makes me wonder how a single person created such a diversity of songs. There is not a song on this album that I don't like or love. "Expecting" has a very interesting stuttering guitar. "Little Room" brings an intense drumbeat with some incredible vocalizations by Jack White. This guy is amazing. "The Union Forever" is a dark, moody rock song and I love Jack's voice with its incredible intensity especially as it cracks on the choruses. Then suddenly near the end has a vocal solo accompanied by a tapping drumstick before lapsing back into its somber melody. Incredible! "The Same Boy You've Always Known" is one of my absolute favorite songs on this album. Again that strong 70s rock vibe with a beautiful vocal performance. This is a perfect rock song. "We're Going To Be Friends" is a really sweet song that is about a school day in the lives of a couple of kids that perfectly captures that infatuation and joy of a young kid making a new friend. It gave me chills in its ability to take me back to the best times in elementary school. "Offend in Every Way" has really great, interesting guitar work and that strong beat that drives so many of The White Stripes' songs. I can rave about all the rest of the songs. But instead I will just wrap up by noting that this is one hell of an album that offers so much. Rock was alive and well at the turn of the 20th century in this incredible album. There is great variety but the album holds together well. Really liked the piano-driven closing song "This Protector." Meg White joins in to great effect! One of my favorite listens in what has been a journey filled with great listens. This is a great rock album!

Stripped down, raw, unadulterated rock. These are simple, original songs played and sung passionately in a way that makes them timeless as if they could have been contemporary at the invention of blues. Favorite track: Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground

Easy to listen to. I don't think the sound offers much depth. It feels too wannabe outsider which drags the album down ('Offend In Every Way'). The singing is generally not for me. The problem is that he's trying too hard to be quirky and different ('I Think I Smell a Rat'). The album does have its highlights though. The first three tracks were interesting and made me excited to see what else was coming up, which ended up not being too much... The middle of the album is simply boring. The album picks up steam near the end with 'I Can't Wait', 'Now Mary' and 'I Can Learn'. Tl;dr: The beginning and the end is good, but the middle is bland.

The White Stripes are absolutely a back to basics rock band. This album features fairly simple songs with good riffs, memorable songwriting, and great delivery from both Jack and Meg White. But at the end of the day, the White Stripes sound like the White Stripes. They show that back to basics doesn't mean rehashing everything that went before, but doing something new with the fundamentals. Jack White's DIY ethic is important because it democratizes music, something that the rise of home recording has only expanded upon.

A great album, cantbuy believe I've never listened to this one. Pushing it in all directions. Great energy.

Amazing stripped down classic rock album. I think other than Aluminum, the album is strong from start to finish, with varied tempos and delivery. Jack White's voice doesn't sound like a great rock voice, but it is perfect for his music. Very enjoyable album.

4.0 - I've always respected the complete White Stripes aesthetic backed by a unique sound that's modern, direct and stripped to its essence. Meg White thrashes with primitive simplicity and Jack White's voice and guitar duel with squeals, roars and bellows. There are counterpoints to the giddy chaos like "We're Going to Be Friends" that offer sweet levity. Of all their "great" albums, this one may be slightly weaker but there are enough bangers to propel the enterprise forward. In my opinion, their follow-up “Elephant" boosts them to higher highs.

In my opinion ythe best White Stripes album. Great song after great song. Dead Leaves...is an epic song and what follows is Jack White's best songs in his career. The songwriting is so spot on , the arrangements clean and punchy. 5 stars

Jack White is the default heir apparent to Jimmy Page and the White Stripes to the Stones. Jack White has a rudimentary grasp of his instrument at best. He's an imitator, not an innovator, unless you count dumbing down the music of his predecessors, which was already roots music. Wonderful. Which leads us to White Blood Cells.Naturally, the execution is garage-y and crude--Jack White is incapable of anything else. This leaves us with the songs themselves, which is where the strength of White Blood Cells, such as it is, lies. What Jack White has done here is to create songs that are the equivalent of the platonic ideal of a stool, i.e. having three legs and little else. To his credit, he creates punchy rhythms and melodies in the style that he's indebted to, cribbing liberally from the Stones and The Who, but there's literally nothing else. No grace notes. No solos worthy of the name. No innovations. No borrowing from other music traditions. This is basic, basic, basic, basic, basic stuff. Why in God's name would anyone listen to a Cliff Notes version of roots rock when there's so much of the real thing lying around? Beats me.

Already loved it. Saw them at Glastonbury and it blew my mind how much of a racket 2 people could make, and the stage presence. The Union Forever is a tune.

Liked it very 90's poppy grunge sound

I love the energy Jack Black brings. It always feels a little hillbilly meets hard rock. Sort of carrying the CCR, John Cougar-Melloncamp thread alive.

The third album from the White Stripes is a garage rock revival effort that cemented this album as a classic from the 2000's. Bolstered by the single "Fell in Love with a Girl" and the re-release of the album by a major record label, this album went on to be certified platinum and catapulted the duo into commercial popularity and critical success. The White Stripes recorded this album their own way in only a week and established themselves as great musicians in the mainstream. You have got to love this album if you love rock!

Five stars. Mic drop.

There are elements of the more unique bluesy garage rock that would come to define the White Stripes in this debut, but Jack and Meg White hadn't quite shaped their sound on "White Blood Cells." There's a lot to like here. "Hotel Yorba" is such a fun little romp, "We're Going to be Friends" is adorable, and "Fell in Love with a Girl" is just flat-out amazing. But revisiting this album I was surprised to notice what felt like hints of late-stage grunge. I've always liked "Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground," but realized that until Jack starts singing, it is fairly uninspired grunge crunch. It actually weirdly reminded me of Silverchair... I don't know why, but that's the band I thought of. Don't get me wrong, Silverchair is actually vastly underrated. But it's not the eye-opening opening-track punch of "Seven Nation Army."

Not as good as Elephant

The White Stripes are the one band who’s catalogue I explored after hearing another album on this list (Elephant) and giving it a 5. I’m so I’ve listened to this album recently, liked it, and downloaded it. I still like the distorted, bluesy, garage guitar sound. But I’m just not feeling it right now. The album feels disjointed. There’s some really good songs here, but there’s also some not so good like Little Room. I had no idea that Jack White wrote We Are Going to be Friends. I am familiar with the Jack Johnson version and I thought he wrote it. Good song. Maybe I’m tired, maybe I’m distracted by looping CHV4 all weekend, or maybe it’s just not as good as I remembered. I’m not deleting it from my library yet, but I might after a future listen.

I don't know if I appreciated this album enough when it debuted. I went through a White Stripes phase, and I bought all their albums. This one, however, I listened to and enjoyed, but now I really appreciate the entirety of it. Meg and Jack create an entire genre of music through drums, guitar, and production. The influences of 90s grunge, 70s funk, Nashville, and their own spin on things is just so refreshing. Not one dud on this album. A truly great record.

So today I found this is the third and not the first White Stripes album, I’m such q poser lol. It’s a good album with some good memories attached to it

Pretty much peak white stripes

It's flawed. It's got filler and it's definitely rough around the edges. But you'd be hard pressed to find another album that sounds just like it. It's raw and direct, and is an early indicator of the artistic ability of Jack White. Fell in love with a girl is rock on steroids, and We're going to be friends is such a gorgeous, touching tune. And props to Napoleon Dynamite for immortalising it too

Dock, även om albumet var okej, så gjorde det inget större intryck på mig. Det ointresse som en gång runnit, rinner nog tyvärr vidare. Det hade kanske krävts något makalöst för att få mig med på tåget när suget att lyssna varit på en sådan låg nivå. Nåja, kul med musik och mediokert med The White Stripes!

Another one I have heard before but probably not listened to as an album in over 10 years. It holds up. I felt nostalgia for the popular songs and really enjoyed the deeper cuts as well

Its pretty solid, someone pointed out to me that meg white is a very basic drummer and listening to this I think I agree. She's significantly more talented than me but doesn't feel like she adds anything to the album

A great listen, so raw and full of energy

Good record. Out of the context of the time, it doesnt make sense anymore. Not because the record is bad, but because in that moment it was shocking, then everyone else came behind and copied Jack White. It's no longer uncommon to find 100 records that want to be Jack White. But if you can listen with the ears and imagination that this sounds fresh, it's a great listen.

Great album! Cannot believe it’s 20 years old! Whole album is a banger, nothing you’d skip as part of the experience! Definitely one for vinyl too I reckon!

I can hear the good intentions and enthusiasm, but they didn't make up for the bad songs, awful and intrusive drumming, grating vocals, overbearing harsh sounding guitar. I appreciate the idea of a 'back to basics' stripped down sound, but get a producer for God's sake.

Absolute Bangers in hotel yorba, Fell in Love With a Girl etc... I love the simplicity of it. It is just a bit too long.

I felt that I was carried along and that Jack and Meg took good care of me while listening to this album. With some hits especially Fell in love with a girl, you get a diverse album that can do almost anything without feeling boring. Simple yet powerful storytelling packed into 40 minutes worth giving a listen.

I didn't find that this one was jammed with tracks I'd listen to on repeat, but there were tracks like 'The Union Forever' and 'This Protector' that I liked a lot on this album. Happily listened to the album a few times through, and I'll probably come back to it again in the future, so an easy 3 for me

That's a bit more like it. Love the vibe of this; great listening on a walk under the blue sky. Vocals in Hotel Yorba reminded me of early Beatles weirdly. Tasty electric throughout. Fell in Love with a girl is such an UNBELIEVABLE TUNE. Those rough short songs like Little Room and The Protector in contrast with I can't wait and The same boy you've always known make for an interesting holistic listening experience. A fan.

Bang bang drums

A classic.

Cracking album, cracking band. Not their best imo (Get Behind Me Satan) but really enjoyed this nonetheless. Fell In Love With a Girl is a fucking monster of a track. Meg White is genuinely awful at drums and she can’t seem to play anything other than 2/4 but Jack is a musical genius so it makes up for it. I think 16 songs is a little overkill and they probably should’ve just left some as B-Sides, there’s no way their label asked for it. I’d have placed it somewhere between 3 & 4 but it doesn’t deserve the whole 4 star rating.

Why is there something about these albums that shouldn't be as good as they are? Wish I could inject these vibes straight into my soul on a rowdy pub day in the sunshine.

Has the same energy as rice crispies, a static television or a scratched record. Impressive what you can do with just a guitar and drums. Far from virtuosic on either of those instruments but the album has an energy and rawness which you can only admire. I'm a fan of The White Stripes but given a choice of their albums this is not the one I would listen to.

I really liked the later part of the album. They have some nice songs but the beginning trudges you along too much to make it more than average.

Jack white is a somewhat imperfect singer and maybe that is part of the whole point - I only /really/ liked 3 songs on that album the rest was samey grunge sound note to self : dont like grunge

I wouldn’t say I like this type of music very much, but I actually enjoyed some of the non-guitar riffs quite a bit. But the freestyle nature of the vocals just isn’t my thing.

The best White Stripes album I think even without the guitar solos

9/10. Thought I'd rated this already, but this was an excellent album. Good length, and fun songs that don't drag on.

A lot of variety and the more relaxed parts weren't bad, but there were some emo-y parts that were pretty unpleasant. Closer to a two than a four for sure.

Not as cool as I expected

Meg White's drumming ruins about 1/2 of the songs. I think maybe if there was bass it could fill in some of the low-end gaps that the percussion leaves, but since there isn't I didn't like it (despite a heroic effort by Jack White). Honestly the album could have been an 8 or 9 but she bumps it down to like a 5.

There's a song here about smelling a rat that spoke to me because rats are living under my porch. I think Jack White is strictly okay.

The White Stripes 3rd studio album released in 2001 was what made the DIY rock band gain notice. With contemporaries like The Strokes who wanted a more authentic sound, Jack White and Meg White made a fantastic throwback to the blues influenced rock of old. Nothing was overly fancy and everything was simplicity in its finest form. It’s got 16 songs in 40 minutes time, so quick songs but memorable none the less. This spawned mega hit “Fell in Love With a Girl” and the Napoleon Dynamite featured “We’re Going to Be Friends”. I really enjoyed the opener “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground” as well as “Hotel Yorba”. The only gripe I have is with the back half having some similar sounds, but gripe is being extreme. Out of 10 I would give it an 8.6.

not my jam - I'd heard Fell in Love With a Girl and We're Going to Be Friends before and they're good songs but the rest is meh

I don't love TWS as much as I wish I did. This album is pretty emblematic of that

I'm always impressed at how full of a sound they get with 2 (occasionally 3) instruments. The songs were pretty varied, and while I felt like the last half of the album lost a bit of steam, it was a good listen.

2.5 | ¿Qué pasa cuando en un periodo de 3 años sacas 3 discos y 50 canciones? Paja... mucha muchísima paja. Tomando en cuenta que de los primeros tres discos este (merecidamente) es el mejor y el que los hizo famosos es todavía más extraño ver entre canciones brillantes como Hotel Yorba, We're Gonna Be Friends o This Protector tanta... tantísima paja y canciones intercambiables y que suenan 75% iguales entre unas y otras. Creo parte de mi problema es algo que tengo con todo el género, todo ese renacimiento de Rock Garage a inicios de los 2000's, todas esas bandas de The... Strokes, Hives, Vines, White Stripes, Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arctic Monkeys etc etc. Todas tienen el mismo sonido de manera general, regresando sí, a un sonido crudo, de producción simple y poco trabajada, inmediato, "relatable", todas logran sonar "bien"... De hecho en muchas ocasiones sonar "muy bien" pero hasta ahí en mi opinión. Terminan siendo muy intercambiables, con algunas canciones y sencillos muy muy buenos pero como para prestar atención a un disco completo terminan en una nube de rock crudo de buen sonido pero indistinto y con un dejo de sensación de superioridad. Hace bastantes años que no escuchaba este disco y me dejó con la misma sensación que la primera vez... Tiene un par de buenas canciones y lo demás cansa.

Hotel Yorba was the first song I heard of Interesting. A lot of same same, and not really my cup of tea. If confusion had a sound, I think it would be something like this - Sloth White Stripes. Offend in Every Way very Neil Youngish. Easily the best album of the list so far - Sack Not as good as Kendrick -Fro A good trip down minimalist memory lane but definitely not the music to be listening to while driving in Sydney traffic on a 32C day. This album is very special to me - Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground was one of the first songs I learned on guitar. Little Room is one of my favorite songs ever, not just of the White Stripes. Tons of gems here Hotel Yorba, Fell in Love With a Girl, We're Going to Be Friends. There are a few songs I don't love here but I think it's a fantastic album that still sounds great 20 years in.

Brings me back to 2002 when the video for "Fell In Love With A Girl" came out and I first heard of the band. Great collection of songs, even if the production and instrumentation make them feel a bit samey and the less intense songs feel a bit twee. Lots to appreciated outside the songs that everyone knows; "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" is a great opener and the "The Union Forever" is also a standout

Enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. Always liked the video to Fell In Love With A Girl. Lots of quality tracks I've added to some playlists. Little Room is garbage. Can't hear We're Going To Be Friends without thinking of the opening titles of Napolean Dynamite. Better than Nirvana. Dig the feel of the album as a whole, less about the individual tracks. Except Little Room, which is trash. B-side lets the A-side down a bit, kinda goes out with a whimper.

A perfect album that came out at the right time to prove to the world real rock wasn't dead.

This is where I came in with them. Saw them on this tour in St Louis. An integral part of the soundtrack to my life and one of those relatively rare instances where the mainstream sucks an indie act into the stratosphere and got it right. Something akin to Nirvana injecting raw energy back into mainstream rock music a decade before.

I should probably listen to more of The White Stripes. I definitely enjoyed this. I like Jack White's vocals in general, and some of the jammy/off-kilter instrumentation at times was up my alley. Hotel Yorba reminded me of a rocky Bright Eyes. Definitely fun. I have definitely heard of "Fell in Love with a Girl". It's good. Not much else to say. I liked Little Room a lot, simple fun. The Union Forever might be one of my favs on this album. Goes a lot of places. Love the plain vocals/smacking of drum sticks after 2 minutes. Reminds me of that jam where I used the drumsticks against Tom's metal beam. :) I Think I Smell a Rat. I mean RCE cover lol? In my mind I was dreaming up a businessman music video for this song. Aluminum is enjoyably sort of experimental/off-tempo. I could see people giving this a 5. But it's not my favorite style to listen to all the time, it's a time and a place for me. It was fun to walk to for suuure.

Nothing special, very generic rock with two exceptions. Fell In Love With A Girl and We're Going To Be Friends are great, but the rest is nothing spectacular.

Cuando mencionan el término "Garage Band" me vienen a la mente bandas como The Killers, Jet, Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys, etc.... diría que ese género llegó a su apogeo entre 2005 y 2010. Me llama la atención que los White Stripes hayan estado ahí desde finales de los 90´s, y también que varias canciones de este disco, que es de 2001, tienen ese sonido característico de "garage" que se volvería tan popular un poco más adelante. Este disco me enseñó que tengo que escuchar más de los White Stripes.

Que toque el boli... a no aquí no viene esa. Insisto en que debería haber una reseña del por que están los discos en la lista, no siento que aporte mucho el disco, tal vez sea la transición entre lo que eran y lo que fueron a partir del elephant. Escuché 3 rolas que me hicieron mover pero lo demás es puro relleno .

Se queda ahí, justo a la mitad. No es mal disco pero tampoco es su mejor aportación y quizá el gran mérito está en que fue su salto a lo comercial y un pas más lejos de la estética de blues para entrarle al minimalismo que después hizo icónico a Jack White. Me gustan mucho Hotel Yorba y, obviamente, Fell In Love With A Girl.

I love The White Stripes, I'm happy to see this on the list. This is the least good of their albums and it still kicks the ass of almost anything else. Their music is so simple, yet so different, and they always sound like they're having so much fun. I could listen to them all day and have done so many times. Fun stuff, love it lots.

A wonderful effort who's first half more than makes up for it's lackluster flipside. Every track up to "Aluminum" is solid gold. Everything that follows is filler, but its still decent. 4/5 stars. This album can do no wrong.

Good, solid, bluesy garage rock. No real frills about it. I don't think there's a bad song on here, but they do all kind of blend together after a while. I did listen thru it at least twice. Favorite tracks: "I'm Finding It Harder to Be a Gentleman", "Fell In Love With a Girl", "We're Going to be Friends"

After a couple of dips in the water, The White Stripes decided to make a full splash with White Blood Cells and inhabit the whole lake. A perfect blend of blues and pop without having to compromise, Jack and Meg offer us earworms that doesn't cease to fade and will have one humming even the deep cuts. If only this album can actually be in our bodies to help us stay strong...

This isn't my favorite album to listen to as an album. It's definitely an achievement in garage rock sound and history, but it's a bit slow for my taste in rock and I don't think that all the songs are equal in quality. A couple of White Stripes classic songs are on here, but also are some not as interesting ones where Jack White's voice sounds squeaky and annoying. When they hit it, the result is incredible, but there are a lot of meh songs here too.

Some bad drumming... all round ok!

When the White Stripes first appeared in summer 2001, I was initially very keen. However, I quickly found that their songs didn't have staying power - they sound great on first listen, but I don't have a strong urge to revisit. So, this was my first listen to this in nearly 20 years. I haven't really changed my mind - there are some strong singles here, but none that would make my personal playlist, and some of the other songs are one-dimensional. I also particularly dislike his 'proper gentleman' attitude, which I think at the time was mistaken for charmingly retro, but I think in fact is backward chauvanism. Not one I would want to listen to again.
