Reviews (page 12 of 13)

I used to enjoy this album, but re-listening now it felt a bit too striped back. On a tangent, I recall some guy adding his own bass tracks to this, releasing it as "Redd Blood Cells", jeez that was nearly 20 years ago! http://www.reddkross.com/features/RBC/

Great album. I love the blues influence from jack white. A very catchy album that’s awesome to listen to on repeat.

The third album from the White Stripes is a garage rock revival effort that cemented this album as a classic from the 2000's. Bolstered by the single "Fell in Love with a Girl" and the re-release of the album by a major record label, this album went on to be certified platinum and catapulted the duo into commercial popularity and critical success. The White Stripes recorded this album their own way in only a week and established themselves as great musicians in the mainstream. You have got to love this album if you love rock!

Not as good as Elephant

The White Stripes are the one band who’s catalogue I explored after hearing another album on this list (Elephant) and giving it a 5. I’m so I’ve listened to this album recently, liked it, and downloaded it. I still like the distorted, bluesy, garage guitar sound. But I’m just not feeling it right now. The album feels disjointed. There’s some really good songs here, but there’s also some not so good like Little Room. I had no idea that Jack White wrote We Are Going to be Friends. I am familiar with the Jack Johnson version and I thought he wrote it. Good song. Maybe I’m tired, maybe I’m distracted by looping CHV4 all weekend, or maybe it’s just not as good as I remembered. I’m not deleting it from my library yet, but I might after a future listen.

So today I found this is the third and not the first White Stripes album, I’m such q poser lol. It’s a good album with some good memories attached to it

It's flawed. It's got filler and it's definitely rough around the edges. But you'd be hard pressed to find another album that sounds just like it. It's raw and direct, and is an early indicator of the artistic ability of Jack White. Fell in love with a girl is rock on steroids, and We're going to be friends is such a gorgeous, touching tune. And props to Napoleon Dynamite for immortalising it too

The White Stripes are alright. This album has some hits but doesn't carry the whole way through. There were some songs that I was familiar with but did not know it was a White Stripes song

Never quite got the appeal of this band. Some songs are great, most are forgettable. That said, it is listenable.

Macht Spaß

I listened to it 3 or 4 times.

Its pretty solid, someone pointed out to me that meg white is a very basic drummer and listening to this I think I agree. She's significantly more talented than me but doesn't feel like she adds anything to the album

A few interesting ballads and overall fact of mainly two instruments generating drive is pretty amazing. Bored me halfway through the album unfortunately, will try to give it another chance later

Fell in love with a girl 10/10, aber sonst einfach nicht so mein stil leider

very good rock album

I didn't find that this one was jammed with tracks I'd listen to on repeat, but there were tracks like 'The Union Forever' and 'This Protector' that I liked a lot on this album. Happily listened to the album a few times through, and I'll probably come back to it again in the future, so an easy 3 for me

Bang bang drums

Cracking album, cracking band. Not their best imo (Get Behind Me Satan) but really enjoyed this nonetheless. Fell In Love With a Girl is a fucking monster of a track. Meg White is genuinely awful at drums and she can’t seem to play anything other than 2/4 but Jack is a musical genius so it makes up for it. I think 16 songs is a little overkill and they probably should’ve just left some as B-Sides, there’s no way their label asked for it. I’d have placed it somewhere between 3 & 4 but it doesn’t deserve the whole 4 star rating.

I really liked the later part of the album. They have some nice songs but the beginning trudges you along too much to make it more than average.

Jack white is a somewhat imperfect singer and maybe that is part of the whole point - I only /really/ liked 3 songs on that album the rest was samey grunge sound note to self : dont like grunge

3/5 it has some nice tracks, but ultimately no.

Good album! Solid rock n' roll. "The Union Forever", "We're Going To Be Friends", "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" are great.

I wanted to like this album bc I really liked We're Going to be Friends beforehand, but the rest was just fine. Didn't love his voice. 5 for me

Good songs, but front loaded and maybe a little samey.

A lot of variety and the more relaxed parts weren't bad, but there were some emo-y parts that were pretty unpleasant. Closer to a two than a four for sure.

sounds like they are trying so hard to sound different. some good songs, beatles vibes.

Meg White's drumming ruins about 1/2 of the songs. I think maybe if there was bass it could fill in some of the low-end gaps that the percussion leaves, but since there isn't I didn't like it (despite a heroic effort by Jack White). Honestly the album could have been an 8 or 9 but she bumps it down to like a 5.

There's a song here about smelling a rat that spoke to me because rats are living under my porch. I think Jack White is strictly okay.

I don't love TWS as much as I wish I did. This album is pretty emblematic of that

Some real fun guitar/riffs. Makes me want to pick up an electric. Pump up music that is very 2001

Rock. Simple pero interesante.

Hotel Yorba was the first song I heard of Interesting. A lot of same same, and not really my cup of tea. If confusion had a sound, I think it would be something like this - Sloth White Stripes. Offend in Every Way very Neil Youngish. Easily the best album of the list so far - Sack Not as good as Kendrick -Fro A good trip down minimalist memory lane but definitely not the music to be listening to while driving in Sydney traffic on a 32C day. Absolute patience destroyer. 3 stars. - Pete

Songs: Hotel Yorba, Fell In Love With a Girl, Little Room, I can learn.

Good listen not something I would throw on although I like the stripes

A few good songs

i've listened to this before, i enjoyed it fine, i do not wish to return to it

Enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. Always liked the video to Fell In Love With A Girl. Lots of quality tracks I've added to some playlists. Little Room is garbage. Can't hear We're Going To Be Friends without thinking of the opening titles of Napolean Dynamite. Better than Nirvana. Dig the feel of the album as a whole, less about the individual tracks. Except Little Room, which is trash. B-side lets the A-side down a bit, kinda goes out with a whimper.

Nothing special, very generic rock with two exceptions. Fell In Love With A Girl and We're Going To Be Friends are great, but the rest is nothing spectacular.

Me gustan mucho Hotel Yorba y, obviamente, Fell In Love With A Girl.

I like The White Stripes but it is clearly not their best work.

Good Album. Was an easy listen.

I like a bit more straightforward version of garage rock. At some times, it gets too experimental, at other times, too corny. A lot of it has to do with the fact that some of the songs are crazy famous and overplayed, but still

Sku lidt larmende

3.5 Enjoyed this one! Love the guitar + piano

Some good jams. Honestly kinda love how raw and underproduced it sounds. Lol apparently that was intentional "Jack White asked recording engineer Stuart Sikes more than once "not to make it sound too good."

Good album. Memorable songs. But not amazing.

Not too different from the other Stripes album, appreciated the few singing songs but still overall nothing too outstanding

Alright, not the best not the worst from the White Stripes

To be honest, I only listened to this once. A few great tracks, but would definitely prefer fewer longer tracks. Didn't blow me away, but would give it another listen.

I’m normally not a fan of Jack White as a human being, but this is as good as any of the White Stripes albums I’ve heard.

well written rock songs

It's definitely a White Stripes album

Niceee

Some bad drumming... all round ok!

Couple good songs on here especially toward the end but it’s not my cup of tea I would say. Definitely can see why people enjoy it but it’s not for me.

It's ok but I don't care for their sound over a full album, never have.

I’m deficient in angst right now which I feel is a necessary supplement to fully enjoy this album. Many of the songs felt like the could be the backing track to a ‘gritty’, supernatural, young-adult film or series from the mid 2000’s - which I intend as a compliment. I just couldn’t get into it - will give it another listen when next suitably stroppy. Fave songs - aluminium, I can’t wait, this protector, fell in love with a girl

Wasn't the worst thing ever, it didn't interest or spark anything in me either though. Wasn't something I would put on in the background too, just not my thing, it felt empty and like it was missing something. Would maybe sound better if I had better attachments to it but I'm a bum modern 17 year old girl. Don't expect much from me

I hate the song Seven Nation Army so was worried what to expect but it was fairly pleasant, inoffensive music but also really forgettable. 2/5.

kinda buns bs: Fell In Love With a Girl ws: This protector

This felt like a collection of demos/unfinished ideas more than an actual album. Which is a shame since I think there was a good amount of potentially cool ideas here but none of them got fleshed out or polished enough to become memorable. 2/5

I find Jack White a little insufferable and I’m not surprised 9/11 happened two months after its release

Fell In Love With A Girl We're Going To Be Friends

Top Songs: - Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground - We're Going To Be Friends

I cant seem to fully get there with the White Stripes I Fell in Love, Dead Leaves & Friends are great, but the rest seem a lot like first takes, rather than finished ideas

het is okay.. niet slecht niet goed. maar misschien moet ik t ook niet luisteren wanneer ik wakker aan t worden ben. i get it hij ruikt een rat

White Stripes - White Blood Cells It finished without me even noticing, which kind of says it all. Meg's shit drumming started out endearing but soon became tiresome, and Jack isn't as great a songwriter and guitar player as he thinks he is. However, there are some little nuggets in here worth a second listen. Gentleman, Hotel Yorba, I Think I Smell A Rat, Some dullards - Little Room, This Protector, The Union Forever. And the rest were.....meh. Best - Hotel Yorba Worst - Little Room 5/10 Overhyped, overrated, and finally over full stop.

I just like 2 songs out of it , I dont like that much of rock music

Not my type

Best: #2 Hotel Yorba.

Too sober to enjoy White Stripes. Maybe when I’m 8 beers deep I could actually enjoy this.

5/10 - personally just not my type of music where it feels a bit too overstimulating

Enjoyed some of the songs, but overall would only revisit for a few tracks.

This is OK(ish), just doesn't do anything for me.

ok sans plus 2+/5

fav songs: feel in love with a girl raw, garage, repetitive 30/100

Playlist pick : Fell in Love with a Girl

Im still not over their other album "Get behind me Satan". my exposure to The white stripes happened with their song "We're Going to Be Friends" featured in The End of the F*****g World.

I’d prefer not to listen to this.

Super basic rock, but luckily the production is terrible.

fell in love with a girl is diesel. rest kind of flopped but i appreciate that they tried

I have heard of The White Stripes, but only a little. I know they are an American duo, who pretended to be brother and sister, but they were married. Jack White still performs under his own name and Meg White stopped performing due to anxieties. White Blood Cells is their third studio album. It was released to universal acclaim. My first thought was Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes, but The Stripes are older than Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes are contemporaries. Other times, I thought of much older bands from the 60s and 80s. My biggest problem was White's voice. I really am not a fan of it. "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground", "Fell in Love with a Girl", "We're Going to Be Friends", "The Same Boy You've Always Known", and "The Union Forever" are the best songs. It was really hard to decide. I need quite a few more listens to be certain. Overall, it is not a terrible album and I can hear how it was part of the post-punk revival of the early 2000s. Unfortunately, it sort of disappeared by the end of the decade. 6/10.

Good album. Fun.

Basic 60s garage sound, but heavier. JW's whiny vocals get annoying very quickly as does the overall lack of musical complexity or emotional depth. Not my cup of tea.

I guess it's just Jack White's voice. I just don't care for it. I *should* like the music. It's minimalist and raw, and borrows a lot of Zeppelin riffs. But for some reason, it jus doesn't do it for me.

Sorry Jack, you’re pretty annoying

A couple of good songs in the first third but falls off a cliff for the rest of the duration.

First track is sounding great! The tone on the guitars is cool! Vocals are better then i thought they might be Second track sounds a lot like It Ain’t Me Babe by Bob Dylan and i love it for that! I didn’t know this album had this type of sound Third track is kinda just okay to me, sounds pretty boring. It’s cool tho It’s actually kinda growing on me His vocals are nice Okay punk I love this one, so hype His vocals are great, that’s pretty consistant across this so far Very classic rock coded First time his vocals haven’t landed for me And the riff is not my favorite My least favorite so far Interlude track, vocals are nice That’s about it tho This one is another miss so far His vocals are okay but they aren’t hitting here This little chorus sounding part is cool tho Little breakdown section?? Fate of the stars by tally hall ahh guitar I think we’re back to go songs now This one is nice His vocals are smooth The only track i had heard before this This one means a lot to me It will always be my favorite no matter what Another pretty meh track ngl I probably won’t listen to this album in full again, but the good songs on here are very good This one is actually a bad song tbh Bro what is that, this one is even worse Nirvana ahh riff, this one is fs better, but still is only eh His vocals are better here tho, but really low in the mix His vocals suck here This one sounds pretty generic, his vocals are better tho Bad closer, bad vocals. Im not trying to hate or anything, just geniunely a bad album with a few hits

There are some good tracks on here, but as a whole, I'm not feeling this album much.

La única que me gusto fue we’re gong to be friends 4/5⭐️

I generally find the White Stripes/Jack White annoying and uninspired, and while my perception has been challenged a little with time and listening to Elephant as part of this challenge, I still find White Blood Cells annoying/boring/frustrating. The album is not without some positives, but Jack White's voice and his garage rock blues do nothing for me.

Favorite track(s): Fell in Love With a Girl, We're Going to Be Friends

I just dont care for the white stripes at all i cannot lie

This is that early 2000s music that I just cant enjoy. If I heard these songs in some montage scene in a movie I’d think it’s cool and sick but to listen to straight up, not my favorite.

I think this one has aged pretty badly.

Za chto. Not a big fan.

This is my second serving of White Stripes from the menu, and it was only marginally more palatable than the first. Whatever it is these guys apparently bring to the table, I just can't seem to stomach. Dull drumming, messy, forgettable guitar work, and nasally, obnoxious fucking vocals, it's a recipe that somehow brought them international acclaim but personally just leads to a pretty glum listen, which I'm sure was not the intention. There were at least 2-3 songs on here I did enjoy a bit to be fair, namely "We're Going to Be Friends", which has wormed it's way into the popular subconscious as a sort of quirky but chipper tune, and a couple other tracks I did enjoy the melodies/riffs. But then you have tracks like "I Think I Smell A Rat" which really epitomizes everything else that turns me off from this album and, seemingly, The White Stripes as a whole. I eagerly await the third course. Fav Track: 9 - We're Going to Be Friends Best Three Track Run: 7, 8, 9

I have avoided this for 25 years but I guess it is time? Why did I avoid it? Because I hated every one of these “the” bands that blew up at the same time. Fell In Love With a Girl felt substance free and ragged in a slapdash way instead of a raw and passionate way. I realize I am very much in the minority here. I also found Seven Nation Army to be monotonous later on. Sue me. Getting into the album, the problem comes down to a few things, the first being that Jack's voice is about as good as Meg's drumming. Like, there's a definite difference between Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground and Hotel Yorba and We're Going to Be Friends, but there's something that feels… not quite inauthentic, I believe Jack White believes in this stuff… maybe style over substance? Either way, this mostly bores me and makes me think of the bands who did this first and better. I want to at least understand White's “guitar hero” status, and at least on this album, i can't pick that out at all. 2*, top track “the same boy you've always known

Normal, I highlight one or two songs, not my style

overrated.

I would say there are pieces of this album I like, but I don’t love the whole. Most of the songs were weirdly short, and it’s not that I wanted more of them, I just want them to go somewhere that they never did.

No me gusto tanto muy parecido siempre y medio aburrido

aşşırı beğenmedim pek benlik değil takılmam yani takmıyo belli

I dint like it very much

Sounds like it was made by and for 14 year old boys.

Not my thingggg. Beste nummer: We're Going To Be Friends. Slechtste nummer: I Think I Smell A Rat

111. ok

Fell In Love With A Girl is a great song, mainly thanks to its LEGO music video by Michel Gondry. If I had to pick just one White Stripes album for the 1001 list however then it would be Elephant and not this. Not this. Hotel Yorba is a Hotel Nope.

Love I Think We Are Going To Be Friends but the test doesn't do much for me

One to come back to. The first half of the album grew on me at the second listen. I like Jack White and other White Stripe albums, but I think it was too much cacophony for how I was feeling.

This was supposed to be a rock revival?? A couple things i will say is that I wasn’t bored for the most part, he kept the energy high but despite that it still comes off empty. The saving grace from getting a one is that the second half of this album is much better than the first with more of a variety. The first is full of songs that are redundant and sound indistinguishable from each other. The entire album feels very corporate today, most of it belongs on a Madden soundtrack not a greatest albums list. However I do understand that it was apparently a shock to everyone when it came out but I’m too young for that and I’ve heard this style 100s of times since then. Maybe if I was in high school when this came out I would enjoy it more but it’s no Nevermind. Nowadays I hear better music made by high schoolers in their garage. Except for “we’re going to be friends”, “Dead leaves and dirty grounds”, and “offend in any way” I wouldn’t say I like any song. Hopefully I enjoy their other albums coming up. 1.5/5⭐️

We're Going To Be Friends

idk i miss pop dawg love that he took his wife's last name tho

Mostly bearable with a sprinkling of hey that almost had something there. Did not care fore lead vocal or heavy guitar combination that was noisy enough to make me wanna keep volume low

It was alright, singles were good, rest was meh

I am almost always a fan of garage rock and alt rock, but for some reason this album just wasn't for me. It felt disjointed and even thought it was only 40 minutes, somehow felt far longer. To the point that that until i looked and saw its length, I assumed it was well over an hour. I'm sure there are plenty of people that like this album, and I like other songs from the White Stripes, but for me the one or two songs I did enjoy on this album don't save it from how much I don't like the rest of it.

One white stripes is enough. Fell in love with a girl is great but elephant is a greater album.

Maybe I need to give these albums more than one listen. I didn't really like it

Lots of noise with some ok songs here and there. People love or hate Meg White's drums and I lean towards hating it. I don't mind a more acoustic, laid back sound but sometimes it's just noisy.

Boring and uninnovative. Not an album that should be here.

Ehh. 2 stars

Realising I've only heard Seven Nation Army from them. Didn't like this. It's bad, baby's first rock music. Not without merit but most songs I actively disliked. Don't like Jack White's singing or composition, he gives off Morrissey energy.

Overall: 5/10 I really can’t get into it. Idk if it’s because of the lead vocalist’s voice or what but it’s not for me. It’s tolerable, but I’m not putting this shit on willingly. Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground: Twas ok. Hotel Yorba: I like the country vibe. Will be added to my 🤠 playlist. I’m Finding it Hard to be a Gentleman: not bad, just not for me. Love the guitar holding it down tho. Fell In Love With a Girl: Idek. Like I kinda don’t like it, but I kinda do. Expecting: Not my cup of tea. Little Room: lol this was different and I like it. The Union Forever: Boring to me. The Same Boy You’ve Always Known: I tuned out. We’re Going to Be Friends: This is sweet. Offend In Every Way: Not too bad. Guitar kept my interest for sureski. I Think I Smell a Rat: Great opening. I like that’s its short. Aluminum: Nice lil interlude or whatever. I Can’t Wait: Fuckkkk that guitar. Now Mary: Not memorable. I Can Learn: Eh. This Protector: I’m not wow’ed.

To me, this sounds a step above garage band vibes? Even how it's mixed with being very guitar and vocals forward. Not sure I like this guys voice either. The super heavy electric guitar chords aren't my favorite. "You can't be in love because there is no true love" - super dark??? "This blue ocean water cannot stop my heart and mind from burning" "I hope he gives you a hand lowering my casket" We are Gonna be Friends is such a shift after the first half of the album! The first song has a very iconic opening to it, and the guitars are cool there. Final thoughts: I didn't love this album sonically or lyrically, but We are Gonna be Friends is such a little gem within an otherwise dark and aggressive album.

I guess listening to The White Stripes when I was younger I just totally ignored the lyrics, mostly because I couldn't really understand what was being said most of the time. I kinda wish I could go back to that ignorance because a lot of these songs are unignorably nice-guy misogyny. Then again I've never really listened through their albums and mostly just enjoyed the singles I've heard. The Jack White solo album wasn't too long ago and Katie really didn't like it due to that misogyny, but here its way, way more nitceable. Still, I get why this album was so important to Garage Rock when you compare what came before versus after it, and I do like the rough-around-the-edges tone the entire album is going for and executes pretty well in my opinion. I've always personally liked Meg Whites drumming whenever I've heard it, despite knowing that's a somewhat contentious take. I just don't quite think The White Stripes works as well here as an album listening experience then a bunch of individual songs. Beyond the afformentioned misogyny, something didn't quite work for me here and I'm not sure exactly what.

we’re going to be friends is good i don’t like the other songs

Matig gespeeld allemaal

I like some rock, but not this particular album. Just didn’t really vibe with this one and wouldn’t revisit.

2 or 3

20/01/2026 *1. dead leaves and the dirty ground - liking the distorted, screechy guitar at the start.... immediately a looooot better than that godawful white stripes album i had to listen to. vocals just started....... still not as bad, but not sure whether i will listen to this one. really great guitar saves it though. btech brian jonestown massacre. 2. hotel yorba - very twee...... not a fan. 3. i'm finding it harder to be a gentleman - like the guitar. very 70s rock. piano is reallly nice as well. not sure about the lyrics though?? very tired right now and despite the rock sound, i am soooo close to just falling asleeep :( *4. fell in love with a girl - really liked this as a kid. was obsessed with the music video. woke me up a bit. reaaallly liking the energy in this one. nice and quick! *5. expecting - guitar is reallly nice throughout, but it just doesn't grab me especially :/ still liked it. 6. little room - was warming up to the vocals, but without the guitar in the background, not the biggest fan... glad it was so short 7. the union forever - loving the intro.... liking this one. guitar just stopped. not a fan anymore... 8. the same boy you've always known - more folksier... same as the other songs really.... almost falling asleep halfway through all of the (rock!) songs is not a sign of an album that i like.... 9. we're going to be friends - indie twee shit. not my thing. reading the reviews and am sick of nostalgic millenials who proclaim jack white as the second coming because he wrote shit tunes when they were young. 10. offend in every way - how are there six songs left????? i am so tired right now, considering dnf-ing..... *11. i think i smell a rat - liking this one actually. his vocals work a bit better on this one? like the mix of quiet and loud bits. 12. aluminum - distorted vocals are incredibly annoying, but the rest of the instruments are reeaaall nice. if jack white shut up for once, this could actually sound good. 13. i can't wait - same as the rest... 14. now mary - quieter.... electric guitar just started. the guitar was the only thing saving this album at the start, but it's really starting to get on my nerves now. so glad this one is short. 15. i can learn - same as the last song, but not as short. 16. this protector - so glad this is over and i can go to bed. spoken word bit is a bit quiet?? shit ending for a shit album. after a few tracks, i began to rethink my opinion on the white stripes (after listening to get behind me satan, which is somehow even worse than any of the metal albums i've had to listen to), but it absolutely nosedived towards the middle of the album. would rather just listen to the bands they were so obviously inspired by. not as bad as the other one :/ not saying much though….

Paar goeie nummers. Not my vibe!

Not sure it's my thing even though I knew one song prior to my first listen

This type of rock not my favorite

It was alright the song I thought where bad where laughingly bad but I didn’t hate it. It sounded interesting I guess.

eh jack white’s voice is not appealing to me

not my thing

I didn't enjoy any of the album's songs. Elephant is a much more likable album, with two songs standing out. There is obviously Seven nation army, but specially Black Math.

Singles are great but the rest of this doesn't do much for me. Much as it didn't at time of release.

Bashing around playing blues riffs on loud crappy amps and howling into the microphone is an impulse as old as crappy amps; it's fun for all involved (except anyone listening). I get the spirit, but despite trying semi regularly cannot get past finding this band grating and mostly annoying.

Gritty guitar, with minimal processing. Vocals and drums to match. Songs are very simple and not particularly original. Simple predictable chord sequences & cliched delivery. I don't find it very exciting or interesting. The Union Forever sounds promising to start with but doesn't really go anywhere. Famously a band with no bassist, but I don't think adding one would have improved things much.

i like :) but i feel like some songs are a little samey and i don’t always like the lyrics

Tough listen. The beginning of the album especially is almost unlistenable to me. I just don’t think I’m a White Stripes fan. Stand out tracks: We’re Going to Be Friends, I Think I Smell A Rat 3/10

Notes: Album has that typical 2000s teen rebellious feeling to it if that's what you're into. Some good tracks with the lows and mids overwhelming the highs. The lead singer seems to forget at times that he doesn't need to sound awful whiny while the band is fairly consistent through the album. Not terrible but would not go out of my way to hear this album again. Highlights: Fell in love with a Girl, The same boy you've always known, We're going to be Friends Lowlights: I think I smell a rat, Aluminum (teeth hurtin music), This Protector.

showed how punk music could be made without overproducing. liked this and their voices but stil not really my genre

It was.... fine. I don't get upset when the White Stripes are playing, but I never seek them out to play them on my own. This is easily a 2.5 for me, but I think a 2 rating here because, again, I will never play them intentionally.

Not memorable

Enjoyed some of the songs / others were not worth a second listening. Definitely a mood dependent listen.

Niet helemaal mijn ding. I Can Learn & We're Going To Be Friends vielen positief op

Ok album, made better by the context in which it was released. Several good songs but mostly simple stuff.

Not sure why this is on the list. Nothing very special about it in my honest opinion. Good guitar playing, yes. But the lyrics are pseudo deep and the singer‘s voice is screechy. But it’s not annoying enough for a worse rating. It’s just not my cup of tea.

What’s this shit, now? Just the same noise the White Stripes trot out time after time, like they don’t sound like glam rock also rans. Just because Jack White told you it was good doesn’t make it so. It wasn’t innovative in 2001, and it sure isn’t now. Never let me hear it again!

ehh for a rock album it didnt really have that vibe idk. Very mid

2/5. Listened to a few tracks but it didn’t grab me.

Vocals kinda killed it for me and electric guitar solos don’t do a lot for me.

The White Stripes were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame a couple of weeks ago, and they’re included on this list, so clearly someone is hearing something I’m not. I get the overall idea of the band, the stripped down garagey rock n roll that seems like it’s best appreciated in a small, crowded, and sweaty room, but it never comes together for me. Jack White has some interesting lyrics from time to time here, but overall I get the feeling of pastiche that’s filtered through the idiosyncrasies of a two piece band. I appreciate that Jack White is a huge music fan and has used his platform to promote a lot of lesser-known bands, but that doesn’t make me like this any more.

Not their best but they're finding their sound.

There is a specific type of Gen X/Millennial who never shuts up about The White Stripes or Jack White. I am not one of them and I wish these people would piss off.

Stick to seven nation army gentlemen Favorite track: Hotel Yorba

This does not much rise above the level of garage band music to me - some good energy here and there but mostly a bore. The drumming is particularly weak. I don't get it...

I didn't get the album and why it's on this list. Boring for me, not expressive. I liked only one song, and it was with no lyrics. 2/5 —————————————— Liked: — Aluminum

A curiously timely entry (the Stripes were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame over the weekend). WBC, like every Jack White release, suffers from being very committed to traditional blues and rock ’n roll. I enjoyed the more minimalist, economical approach to this on De Stijl, but even with that I rarely made it through a handful of tracks. Obviously this embrace and distillation of classic rock roots is well done and has served him well; dude really knew his stuff even in the late 90s. Unfortunately, the attention to sonic aesthetic - stripped-down, minimalist, lots of space - wasn’t the only thing Americana and roots music took from their success and so, at least in Nashville, this gifted an entire revival of blues rock to a generation of kinda OK rock and folk types, whereas whatever lackluster trends were being pursued at the time of WBC in indie rock died out and have largely been forgotten. Sidenote: impressed that this has such a high rating here and several reviews calling it perfect. It's not my thing, but cool for y'all.

Third time’s not the charm for me with The White Stripes. 102 albums in and the third White Stripes album!! While White Blood Cells might be the strongest of the trio so far, I still struggle to connect with their raw, garage-rock aesthetic. Jack White’s voice continues to grate, and I find it hard to get past that to enjoy the songwriting. There’s energy and attitude here, sure—but I’m not convinced I needed to hear one White Stripes album, let alone three. At this point, I’m just hoping the list moves on soon!

White noise. Who in their right mind lays down a track like Little Room and thinks this is good enough to be on an album?

Brought me back to younger days. Good music to power through some excel spreadsheets

Brought me back to college days. I’ve outgrown them but it was fine.

I enjoy the White Stripes and Jack Whites solo ventures, but I found this album to be a bit limp wristed. Did not have the thumping drive you would typically associate with them.

kinda shite, innit?

Their sound becomes increasingly nauseating as the album goes on. Despite that, I appreciate the “garage” ethos and their intended presentation - which fails here. Not necessary to hear before death.

I've never sat and listened to an entire White Stripes album, so this will be fun (I hope). I immediately hear the early version of his sound. More garage/punky than his recent stuff. After three tracks, I'll say that I like the music Jack White made with The Raconteurs better. After eight songs, make that much much better. WE'RE GOING TO BE FRIENDS, a nice little ditty, is really the only song I would listen to again. Here, White's voice echoes McCartney (which probably everyone in the world has already noted). I THINK I SMELL A RAT is shit. As is ALUMINIUM. Gave the rest of the album 30 seconds per song. Gonna go listen to The Raconteurs. ⭐⭐ ________________________________ 🎧 LPs reviewed: 84 🎧 LPs left to review: 917 🎧 LPs I found great/relevant enough to be mandatory listens (5): 18 🎧 LPs I *might* include in my own list (4): 20 🎧 LPs I will certainly *not* include in mine (1-2): 26

I’ve only heard of the song Seven Nation Army. I wonder what the criterion is for these albums. Nothing about this seems influential.

i still like the 2 popular ones

i remember liking this album way more than i did this time. I have a soft spot for Friends bc of Napoleon Dynamite, but the rest i was not really feeling

the same 2 or 3 songs repeated for an entire album that is twice as long as it should be, just make it all dead leaves/little room style rough garage rock, make a separate piano rock album and call it a day Fav song: Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground probably because the riff is insanely gfood

Hmmmmmmmm I partially like it, but it doesn’t vibe at all with me. And the message it’s quite trivial for what I’m used to consume.

Boy I dislike this far more than I expected it would. Just a self important realization of the toxic male rock god myth.

Not keen

Didn’t need another White Stripe album on this list. It’s actually starting to annoy me how many repeat artists there are.

White stripes : I am really trying to get the Garage rock thing here. It sounds like hard rock music but sad and weak. Why don’t they just make an album that sounds good? Why wouldn’t he have recorded bass parts it’s not like it’s recorded live? Whole thing sounds like demos. The vocals are cool and the songs have potential. I dig how minimal the drums are wish they sounded bigger. Maybe points for being different? Favorite songs were the last two

I dig it

can't really remember anything other than Jack White's voice is a bit annoying but the instrumentation is good. 2.87* rounded down. p.s., like the slow part of a novel, this album kept me from following the list daily for weeks.

i dont get it and i dont care to get it either

Not a fan, was good at points but some songs just annoyed me

I find it difficult to rate this album. Although garage rock in general and The White Stripes in particular have a high coolness factor, I hadn't realized how bad the production actually is. Yes, I know that this is part of the concept, but after three or four songs, the imprecise timing really annoyed me. I'm giving it a second star for coolness, but honestly, almost 25 years later, this album is pretty rubbish.

I have successfully outran this album for 24 years, and today I lost. There are some tracks I’ve discovered through the years that are ok in small doses, but I knew in my heart I wouldn’t enjoy more of it— and I was right. I realize this is probably done on purpose, but Meg White’s drumming is so fucking bad. It’s so bad. It sets my teeth on edge. I hate it so much.

Really disappointed.

It was okayish. I Think I Smell A Rat was funny for personal reasons, nothing else was notable

2 stars I’ve made attempts to listen to this album in full for 15 years. You’d think it’s a long double album or something, but it’s a fairly short 40 minutes. It starts out strong and promising. But then it kind of just becomes more of the same or less interesting. After a while I’d end up turning it off and not returning to it for years. I finally got through the whole thing for this, but even that wasn’t in one sitting. I could probably get through it in one sitting- it’s not unbearable or anything. But I just don’t find myself wanting to. So that says a lot to me.

Overrated :)

40 minutes of the same exact sound

This is #day376 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… my second Stripes album. I think Elephant, which I got on my #day291, would have been just enough. But aside from that, you get two more records, and then there's also Jack White's solo. Oh well... "I Think I Smell A Rat" is probably my only highlight. Otherwise, this bluesy garage rock thing leaves me cold. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day377.

You know what yeah I was so ready to give this a 1 star and slag it off ruthlessly, but actually it did grow on me a tiny bit as it went on and some of the guitar tones were beautiful. I can even imagine a world in which one day I may listen to it again. But overall: I just don’t get it.

A bit too 'guitar and drums' for my taste. Look, it's fun - but that's not enough.

It was fine, nothing memorable

Knock-knock. Who's there? Meg White's most complex drum beat. ------------------------------------------------------------ Seriously, though, I don't get the hype around Jack White or the White Stripes. This is music for car commercials about modest sedans that want you to think they're sporty and fun to drive. "We're Going to Be Friends" is a decent tune, however, but I like Jack Johnson's cover of it better, though. 2 Stars.

It’s ok. Something you might hear in a bar or college quad impromptu stage.

TBH, this album should've not got a Liner Notes episode. 3/10

The white stripes have one good song. Its not on this album.

Pretty annoying buuutt fell in love with a girl rips.

meh 2/5

Definitely not my type of music. Not a fan of his voice either

When I hear the White Stripes I always think "this is pretty good stuff"...but then I never go back for more. I don't dislike it but it just doesn't draw me in. I couldn't tell you a single song by them except for Seven Nation Army because everyone knows that one.

Tedious, ponderous, soulless

Well, I was disappointed with this. Most of the songs are so stripped down and bare, and sound as if they were recorded in someone's basement. I got the sense while listening that this is what it must be like when your friends tell you, their son is starting a band and they want you to come listen to some of his songs. You'd smile politely and say, "Wow, that's great!" and then go home and think to yourself "meh." Nothing makes me want to listen to these songs again.

The older I get, the more I realise where White Stripes get their ideas from. I used to think it was The Cramps, but now I realise it's also bands like Led Zep. The songs aren't good enough to stand outside of their derivative framing, leaving what feels more like a pastiche than a homage to the history of rock & roll. Not a fan of the whiny voice, either.

i don’t know why, but i never like these guys. they’re not bad, but i can’t ever get into them. 2.5

too grunge. didn't like it.

A handful of good country/pop songs, some turgid blues.

Meio irritante.

White Blood Cells is the third studio album by American rock duo the White Stripes, released on July 3, 2001. Recorded in less than one week at Easley-McCain Recording in Memphis, Tennessee, Aaaannndddd ... it feels like it was done in less than a week.

I think because we just listened to a White Stripes album the other day this one didnt do it for me.

Garage rock. Not much to it. In parts, very repetitive.

In highschool (when this came out) I used to keep a physical list of all the CDs I wanted to buy, and this was certainly on that list. Unfortunately, my budget only stretched so far and I never managed to buy this one. Being familiar with all the singles from this album, I was excited to dig into the full album. Sadly, beyond those singles, many of the album tracks never needed to be recorded. It feels like they wrote an incredibly solid EP, and then pulled in some studio goof-arounds to fill out for LP length. “Little Room”? “I Think I Smell a Rat”? Both of these could (should) have been bonus tracks stuck on the end of the last track a la Green Day’s “All By Myself”. Sometimes recording an album in a week isn’t something to brag about. I say all that, and then I wonder if The Black Keys would have made it out of Ohio without the commercial success of The White Stripes …I truly don’t know and it may keep me up tonight. An influential album, to be sure, but I had hoped for some new hidden gems to celebrate.

Not good

I just really don't like it and they were so popular. Why? Subjectively it might be a one star

2.5 - Ok. Bought this back in the day and didn't end up listening to it that much

Sounds like shit to me

Just ok. Hasn't aged that well. Also not the biggest Jack White fan.

Nothing special.

Nostalgic. But not one I’ll rush to go back to

first half was good but i had to stop listening the second half was just weird, not my vibe

"Fell in Love with a Girl" is decent. Not really my genre. 2,5/5

Slightly more modern rock, better but not my style. 2.4

Heard it before. Can't say I'm really into White Stripes so listening to this album was rather meeeh 2/5

i feel like this album is everything against what i personally enjoy in music. not to say it's objectively bad, the sorta rock they play just makes me wanna yawn.

Jack White’s voice is so…interesting!

ok- so honestly i am not the biggest jack white or white stripes fan. but i think that this album is important in the context of its time. it sparked a new era of rock and roll in the early 2000s and many other artists copied the sound of this album. i also think that it is interesting that it was recorded in one week in the studio, that is insane. most songs do sound like they were recorded in less than a week. it is very obvious. "we're going to be friends" and "offend in every way" are my fav songs here. im not a white stripes hater bc i do like their music and music videos but i dont enjoy listening to their whole albums. I am giving this album 2 stars today because it's not my personal type of music that i enjoy listening to. his voice is difficult for me to listen to for extended periods of time. but i would give it 2.5 if possible.

I didn’t hate it but I don’t think I’d ever go back and play any of these songs. They’re not very memorable to me. Favourite Tracks: Fell In Love With A Girl, I Can’t Wait, Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground

Second listen, same result, 2 stars. It’s not bad, but it’s not really good enough to appear on a “must-hear before you die” list. I’ll probably not listen to it again.

Not my type of music.

Not my vibe. Couldn’t really get into it

kind of mid and just not really what i was expecting

The first half was at least listenable, but as soon as We're Going to Be Friends starts it's completely downhill from there

Pari hassua kappaletta, joita haluaisi kuulla useamman kerran. Ja toinen niistäkin on tuttu Conan O'Brienin podcastista, joten sen takia jäänyt mieleen.

The start was bad. Sounded like whinny country mixed with punk. About 3 songs into the album I started to enjoy it. I might try and listen again now that I know the style better.

Top 3 Fell in love with a girl We're gonna be friends I can't wait

I liked a couple of songs, but overall didn’t care for this album

Not quite my sort of music, Aluminium is a very bizarre “song”

One or 2 of these songs at a time is fun. A whole album is way too much.

Realising now that I haven't heard their first three albums at all, only Elephant onwards. Giving this a 2 as I'm not super keen on it, feels a bit aimless/loose compared to later stuff

Some of this was interesting but overall not for me. I did like the song We’re going to be friends though.

some classic white stripe songs on here (dead leaves, hotel yorba, fell in love with a girl) but a whole lot of nothing-songs too just nothing super interesting outside of the bangers

Sometimes is hard to get through the Stratocaster whine, other times just impossible to listen to (e.g. Aluminum). Yet there are some interesting tunes here and there. Luckily the songs are usually short. 4/10

Some good stuff in here, kind of brought down by some of the angst in the lyrics and general 'don't care' attitude.

The first half contained some ok songs with good sound and lyrics. But then the sound gets thinner and the lyrics become juvenile. It is unrefined in a thin and uninteresting way. Some of these concepts of songs could have used more time in the oven.

This was fine? I was just waiting for it to finish.

Much more bland than I remembered.

I will never give a shit about ""The White Stripes""

Objectively good, just not super my vibe. The one song I do really like is I can tell we’re gonna be friends, which is the one most different from the rest of the album. Overall, I’m glad I listened, but not going to add any of these songs to a playlist or my liked songs.

It was fine. Not sure if I was a huge fan of this one. Got bored

Noisy. Constantly sounds like Jack’s voice is gonna break any second. Which isn’t surprising as he’s always shouting. Also sounds out of tune most of the time. Some catchy riffs and melodies, and a few mellow/quieter moments. Glad the songs are all quite short.

Nota: 2.2

It's alright. So so. Basic. I'm never going to listen to it again.

Kinda cool sound but ultimately dull and repetitive. 'I can tell we're gonna be friends' is a cut above the rest and a deceptively simple and wholesome song

Writing is good(except Little Room) but Jack White's voice annoys me. Drummer is disappointing. Little Room is the potentially the worst song I've heard doing this list so far. 2 stars just for We're Gonna Be Friends.

2+ Stars (6/15)

Has much of the same problems that I have with other White Stripes albums: good singles, forgettable rest, all rock music that has largely been done better by both bands that came before and their contemporaries. The problem is that the White Stripes rarely write songs worth hearing, as the albums come across as shallow. What's worth hearing?

Interesante. Tampoco conocía el álbum más allá de "Fell In Love With A Girl". No fue para tanto.

Jack white sucks

Garage rock is a big blind spot for me. There are some undeniably good tunes on here, but like most rock of the early aughts not made by QotSA, it doesn't really tickle my fancy. It's bluesy and catchy but not particularly interesting to me. Maybe it's because I've listened to Elephant for years that this doesn't hit as much for me.

I think it’s rock. Personally not really my style but I could see how others like it.

There were a couple of fun, bluesy, folksy songs at the beginning, but I lost interest after that.

I never understood why The White Stripes were so hyped up. The sloppiness of the record is somehow cool, but the songs sound like they belong in the 60s-70s. The production is as bad as back then as well.
