1001 Albums Summary

I realise this is going to lead to people thinking less of me, but I got bored and turned it off.

One or two great tracks, a few more and this would've been a great album instead of just good.

Unremarkable and instantly forgettable. It made so little impact that if I listened to it again, I don't think I'd recognise a single track. It's not that it's offensive, it's just so bland that I'm not even certain I heard it. It was like eating a lettuce for dinner. You don't recoil at every bite but you do wonder why you're not eating something with a bit more flavour, variety or both.

You do need to be in the right mood for it but it's an excellent album. Every track hits. Great running album.

I think it's close to a genre I would really enjoy but didn't quite click for me. The vocals that there were were a bit low energy, and I was often left feeling like I'd already heard that track before

Don't think country rap is for me. Unfortunately the album soured further for knowing anything about the artist

A lot of fun

Couple of nice tracks on this, but not sure i'll be coming back for any of them. "Shine a Light" stands out above the rest of the album so it's understandable that it has vastly more plays on Spotify than any of the other tracks.

It was an ok listen, lost my attention at a couple of points for sure but I have no objection to hearing more

Actively annoying. The lyrics are just terrible. I can't imagine what other people see in this. How many times does she tell me it's Missy Elliott on this album, is she trying to break a record set by Craig David?

This country stuff is not for me

I kept thinking I'd get bored of this eventually but somehow the album kept surprising me with its diverse sounds. I enjoyed the whole thing and it's been added to my Spotify favourites so I will return for sure!

Varied. Some tracks are smooth and chill, others are a bit more lively. A good listen, provided you're in the mood.

Was it cheesy when it came out, or is it just cheesy now? Impossible for me to say. Great rhythms, great vocals, lyrics weren't the most imaginative.

country not really my thing, but i did enjoy this. Vocals and melodies were strong. It was really chill.

Of all the indie stuff coming out around this time, I found Franz Ferdinand to be the most oatmealy. Bloc Party, Kaiser chiefs, and The Killers for example, were all making more exciting and interesting indie at the time.

Another artist for whom i'm more familiar with their later work. I expected to enjoy this but it felt samey, and the lyrics are pretty uninspiring: how good they are, how big their dicks are etc.

There are some good tracks on here, but it's also long and forgettable

I quite like a few Bob Dylan tracks in isolation, but his vocals really grate after 1-2 tracks which make a whole album in one sitting like a weird form of torture. He gives an unusual cadence to his lyrics and an unpredictable syllable emphasis that swings from too little to too much, all too rapidly. All things considered, it makes for an uncomfortable listening experience.

One awesome track mixed in with a bunch of ok ones. I think modern trip hop has more interesting sounds to offer, though the album is worth a listen from time to time

The first cd is great. Not sure the extended edition was needed though, the remixed versions don't really add anything and sound more monotonous.

A nice break from the typical 70's and 80's sounds that seem to rule this list. Only shame is that for most tracks, i don't know what they're singing about, but the melodies are enough to carry it.

It's an ok album. Never really understood the hype around Arctic Monkeys at a time when I felt Bloc Party, The Strokes, The Killers, Deathcab for Cutie, Green Day, and many more were putting out better stuff.

Hard to articulate how I feel about an album I've listened to probably over 100 times. When you listen to an album so much, there's a drift in your favourite tracks. Ones you didn't notice so much at first come to the forefront, and what initially peaked your interest in the album can fade back. I think that's a sign of a really great album, one for which you feel all the tracks individually are excellent, and there's some coherence throughout the album. The Man Who fits this criteria for me. This is an album I've enjoyed for over 20 years, and one I expect to put on intermittently for the rest of my life. Not so much a critical review as a love letter. Do not sleep on the hidden track.
