Peter ToshForgettable
Forgettable
Bangers
I realise this is going to lead to people thinking less of me, but I got bored and turned it off.
One or two great tracks, a few more and this would've been a great album instead of just good.
Unremarkable and instantly forgettable. It made so little impact that if I listened to it again, I don't think I'd recognise a single track. It's not that it's offensive, it's just so bland that I'm not even certain I heard it. It was like eating a lettuce for dinner. You don't recoil at every bite but you do wonder why you're not eating something with a bit more flavour, variety or both.
a whole album of background music, not really my bag
Like Travis but slower and with none of the soul
You do need to be in the right mood for it but it's an excellent album. Every track hits. Great running album.
It hasn't changed my life, but it was an enjoyable listen
Grungier Beatles. Quite an enjoyable listen with a few hits.
I think it's close to a genre I would really enjoy but didn't quite click for me. The vocals that there were were a bit low energy, and I was often left feeling like I'd already heard that track before
noty
Excellent album, but definitely an abuser. Can we really still enjoy his work knowing he took advantage of so many children?
A couple of great tunes for sure
It's a high 3 for sure, but just lacked that one or two excellent tracks to bump it to 4
Just another album that washed over me. Sorry
Not easy listening but interesting and enjoyable depending on your mood
This is fine
Don't think country rap is for me. Unfortunately the album soured further for knowing anything about the artist
A lot of fun
Couple of nice tracks on this, but not sure i'll be coming back for any of them. "Shine a Light" stands out above the rest of the album so it's understandable that it has vastly more plays on Spotify than any of the other tracks.
It was an ok listen, lost my attention at a couple of points for sure but I have no objection to hearing more
Actively annoying. The lyrics are just terrible. I can't imagine what other people see in this. How many times does she tell me it's Missy Elliott on this album, is she trying to break a record set by Craig David?
This country stuff is not for me
I kept thinking I'd get bored of this eventually but somehow the album kept surprising me with its diverse sounds. I enjoyed the whole thing and it's been added to my Spotify favourites so I will return for sure!
Delivers what you expect
bit of a preacher vibe
Varied. Some tracks are smooth and chill, others are a bit more lively. A good listen, provided you're in the mood.
Just another album that washed over me without eliciting any emotion whatsoever
enjoyable enough
Does it count as experimental? It is to me anyway. Couple of really great tracks.
It was ok, not sure i got into it but feel like it had more to it than a 2*
Lyrically I think it might be quite good, but I just found it a bit boring. It's the kind hip hop that's done over a loop, where as I prefer some melodic progression
This is the one, brilliant
Wasn't blown away, but definitely got into it
Very 60's, not really my thing
Mellow and drifty, an easy listen. Iconic
look, i know they predate Nickleback by considerable time, but that's the vibe i got
Sorry not for me, it just sounds so dated
upbeat, sounds a little like the wii shop music, an enjoyable listen
Certainly not one for everyone but a great soundtrack to a school shooting for sure
Sounded a bit more samey than some of their other albums
didn't feel memorable
Mostly forgettable with a few bangers
A little lumbering at times but enjoyable
A real 80's soundtrack, with a sound that could slip into any classic 80's movie
Put it on, promptly forgot it was on. Can't say it was incredibly engaging.
Aged well i think. Mellow
didn't really get it
just couldn't get into it
Not without charm but I didn't vibe with it enough to rate it any higher
some tracks better than others
snappy
Got steadily worse
Hadn't realised but spotify already plays me a few from this album in various mixes
Much better than Ziggy for me, great album
Obviously some bangers, but i think they have some stronger albums
Not my bag
I've never understood pink floyd. I understand that a lot of other people love their work but i'm not one of them
Was it cheesy when it came out, or is it just cheesy now? Impossible for me to say. Great rhythms, great vocals, lyrics weren't the most imaginative.
Slow. I prefer Frank when he's feeling more upbeat
solid
eclectic?
It's not that it's bad. Just that it's boring
Saved from two stars by the OC vibes I think...
didn't get into it
Sorry but I loved it
A lot to like on here with only a little filler
Driving rhythm and bass, great riffs, but a little too screamy to vote any higher for me
meh
It was fine, just didn't really get into it
Found it slo, long and repetitive
It was good, but who needs over 2 hours of the who in one sitting?
Iconic sound but not one i'll come back to a lot
I think this is one of those times where the album would be more highly rated if it weren't background music to my working and was a dedicated listen instead
Better than Hail To the Thief but i still found it really samey
Upbeat and poppy
I found his voice/ style of sing/ talking over the music really grating
I think this could be a 4 with further listens. One of those times where i recognised a few tracks that spotify already puts in my mixes, without me knowing who they were by. Has unusual sound and vibe, and album art that makes me wonder if i've micro dosed lsd today
Melodically brilliant with engaging lyrics
It's a good album, understandably well loved, even if it's not something I'd put on I can certainly appreciate it
Another one that passed over me leaving no real lasting opinion
It was good, but longer than i needed
it was fine
not for me i guess
started funky and fresh, but quickly became samey
really disappointed not to like this more. Big fan of postal service and deathcab for cutie which has a similar sound, but maybe CHVRCHES is just a little too upbeat and poppish?
Different, but didn't vibe with me
brilliant
Didn't notice it had finished for quite some time so i guess i blocked the whole thing out
It's a GOOD album but I'm quite bored of hearing it. I don't think you get bored of really GREAT music
With a few exceptions, this album didn't really do anything for me
found it boring tbh
Just too weird and 80s for me
It was definitely a jazz
A couple more bangers and it could've been a 4. Obviously contains the GOAT christmas song
Enjoyable, even if i'm never going to rave about jazz
I was sort of dreading this as not, "my sort of music", but turned out to be pretty enjoyable, even if a little soporific at times.
It's good, but not a lot of variety to the tracks
It was all very elvis
country not really my thing, but i did enjoy this. Vocals and melodies were strong. It was really chill.
Of all the indie stuff coming out around this time, I found Franz Ferdinand to be the most oatmealy. Bloc Party, Kaiser chiefs, and The Killers for example, were all making more exciting and interesting indie at the time.
Didn't find it very interesting
got bored
Another artist for whom i'm more familiar with their later work. I expected to enjoy this but it felt samey, and the lyrics are pretty uninspiring: how good they are, how big their dicks are etc.
Really enjoyable but just lacked any killer tracks to make it a 4
I do enjoy The Beatles, but maybe i'm more of a fan of their greatest hits than individual albums
lively but long
Really enjoyable. Felt like beach music
Slow and lumbering. Like the worst Christmas album, without any of the jingles, that someone puts on in August
A unique voice and enjoyable melodies
I don't know that i'm that into ballads
Really chill
3rd one down... I find them so boring.
I got into it
iconic 80s stuff
Pretty inoffensive all round
Really into a couple of the tracks on here, ofc 'Hurt' is an outstanding cover
There are some good tracks on here, but it's also long and forgettable
I quite like a few Bob Dylan tracks in isolation, but his vocals really grate after 1-2 tracks which make a whole album in one sitting like a weird form of torture. He gives an unusual cadence to his lyrics and an unpredictable syllable emphasis that swings from too little to too much, all too rapidly. All things considered, it makes for an uncomfortable listening experience.
Most of it drifted through me like typical 60's stuff
not into it
Got a bit bored of this one, didn't enjoy it as much as elvis is back
fun and upbeat, bit too poppy to get any higher though
At 36 minutes this is a really short album, but that means there's no filler. It's a great album
Went back for a 2nd listen, but there won't be a 3rd
Too much 60/70's american rock in this compendium
no
Some of it is pretty good, but i don't think any of it is outstanding. Never really understood the kanye hype
It was fine, but another that i forgot was on, it all just started blending together
quite an interesting sound, but didn't feel like there was a lot of variety to me
Worth a second listen
Really enjoyable mix of mellow and sizzling tracks
Enjoy most of this, but it became a bit much towards the end of the album
Still not into them
Too country for me
Are Radiohead the coldplay of soft rock?
Pretty decent, but not one i'm going to play on repeat over and over
Short and sweet
Enjoyable, though the horse and siren samples throughout could be jarring.
Idk if it's fair to call a 70's album cheesy (presumably it didn't feel that way at the time) but that's what i hear now
A few great hits, and a few forgettables
Felt like it faded away rather than built up to triumph
Bit disappointed because i thought i would like it more
Too much 90's britpop on here, but this is some of the best
Couple of really great ones on here but it was difficult to decide whether to go to 3 or 4
Obviously masterful guitar riffs, Led Zeppelin and I have never quite been in love though this is an improvement over their debut album.
I thought i liked adele more than this, but it was ok
I enjoyed this as much as any other britpop
Nice sound
Bit too intense for me, and didn't need the 2nd disc. Obviously the opening track is a banger but i'm never going to put the whole album on for it.
I warmed up to it
Not what i was expecting, but lively
mellow and enjoyable
Couldn't get into it
pretty classic stuff isn't it
Some of the best of this genre
Better than I thought, even if Bonno's voice can be grating
Fresh and funky, but not really my sound
I think this was really close to something i would really enjoy. But i just didn't emotionally connect with the vocalist
🥱
1-2 good tracks does not an excellent album make
So 80's
There is too much of this sort of thing on here
Solid album
Quite enjoyable, not sure it if offered much in the 2nd half of the album though
A bit mixed, but overall enjoyable
Fine, but i was a bit disappointed not to like it more.
A bit all over the place to me
Solid Bob
Good album, nice variety of sound. Beatles rarely disappoint
It was good, but not as good as My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts
Had a good bluesy sound with strong vocals, without being too experimental
Good energy, and a different sound from a lot of this list
funky but i wasn't that into it
some bangers, but for me a lot of background music too
Nostalgia aside, one of the greatest albums of the noughties for sure
really dull, but not actively annoying
It really came alive in the second half of the album for me, the first half was a bit of a snore
The best rock funk fusion I've heard so far
Might be that i've given a lot of 2's and 3's recently and want to be a little generous, but i did enjoy this one, and will probably come back.
Forgettable
It's a nice album, but it's very long to listen to one core sound for
Some of Tupac's stuff is iconic, but i found this album so samey and couldn't get into it at all
A good album, but carried a bit by every breath you take
Perfectly fine, bit dreary
A lot of live albums are pretty pointless, but the interactions and anecdotes are excellent. On top of that, the music as a whole is upbeat and enjoyable.
no
Rocking
Upbeat and modern sounding for the era, but not one that's left an impression
Never get into this kind of hip hop
enjoyed it, soulful
Sometimes niche bands are niche for a reason
really meh
Maybe needs a 2nd listen from me, but I didn't hear anything I thought was exceptional
Unremarkable, Warszawa was the best thing about the album
Not the best in the genre, but ok
Fun, rocky, short
Borderline torture
always difficult to be objective about older albums that you know really well. Sounds great though
Started ok but was pretty boring
It's got some hits i guess, i just can't imagine the kind of person who would derive pleasure from listening to this regularly
There's too much Bob Dylan in this list for sure, but this is my favourite one so far
Consistently good, nearly a 5. Great sampling throughout.
grew tired of it before the end
Definitely on the better side of 80's hip hop, and more interesting than a lot of other hip hop in this list. Reminded me of the beastie boys.
Bit dreary and samey
i've turned on the radio at it's 2002. Very poppy. Is it groundbreaking stuff?
not a big fan or the artic monkeys, so no surprise i didn't love this
got a bit better as it went on i think
Flirted with my interest, but ultimately wasn't able to hold it for that long. Good track to go out on though
Interesting bits, and some less so, but overall a decent album
It's another one hit wonder album isn't it
rocky
I thought I liked REM more than this but it was so forgettable. Just plain audio porridge.
so dull
alright
A bit different, but not something i could listen to over and over
We squeek a four here, pushed into it by a few really great tracks rather than sum of the whole
It's got that really dated 60's sound that's hard to get past
entertaining if not memorable
passed with little notice
upbeat and enjoyable
dull and forgettable
i wonder if the book contains any insight into why albums like this are chosen
Decent background trip hop but not very memorable
driving rhythms but found it quite samey
not interesting
Close to a 4, but i think it just lacked a little edge to push it up
I was enjoying this album quite a lot, but i think Hurt pushed it over the top
peppy
uninspiring
got really bored of it
Unremarkable
Pretty generic Paul
drone
Obviously one track on here that gets far more play time than the others, but it doesn't feel like a one hit wonder album. It has a modern sound and I wouldn't have expected it be from the 80s.
I read that for this album they moved away from their normal country rock sound, but not far enough
Surprisingly good, i thought iron maiden were screamier than that
bit quirky and different, obviously on the nose
upbeat fun and bouncy
So ill-equipped to judge this sort of thing. Can't say experimental jazz has ever been my thing though
unmemorable
Thought i would get more into it. Maybe i wasn't in the mood.
pretty bland and unmemorable
Nice sound. I think it was exactly what i was in the mood for
Another one that changed my expectations. I thought Black Sabbath were more metal than this. Great riffs
monotonous
don't get why this is on here
An iconic album that i can appreciate, but doesn't really vibe with me
Pretty decent but don't think i'm ever going to choose to put it on
I can appreciate the talent, even if the album isn't quite my vibe
Enjoyable but hard to really appreciate without knowing the language
Bit screamy for me
Mixed bag really
Mixed, a lot of it was really good, though the album was long. The two CDs were pretty different, for obvious reasons. I need a best of single CD i think.
Every track a banger. The best of its genre
One awesome track mixed in with a bunch of ok ones. I think modern trip hop has more interesting sounds to offer, though the album is worth a listen from time to time
Jazzzzz
Fun, up tempo, and not too experimental
bored
Started strongly and tailed off
All over the place, some enjoyable and some not
I was into it to begin with, but then i found a really annoying repeating pattern to the way she sings and harmonises with the melody.
Some good tracks, but thought i was going to enjoy it more
Infrequently interesting
Difficult to rate 'fairly' if you don't know the language well, but i enjoyed it and might listen to more
pretty
bit slow, didn't really get into it
Bit weird at times, and occasionally creepy lyrics
mid
Short and sweet, an unusual but pleasant sound
Beatles went in a bit of a different direction for this one, lots of classics
I feel like it started strong and faded a little, but it's probably one i'll come back to
Not the highest energy stuff, but listenable
dull
it's fine
That's a lot of guitar
Different vibe to their other stuff
some classics in there
big shrug
mixed
Slow and lumbering cover album, not sure what this is doing on here
An iconic bluesy/ rocky sound
The first cd is great. Not sure the extended edition was needed though, the remixed versions don't really add anything and sound more monotonous.
Good but not their best
Bangers
Excellent album, agonised over whether to give it 3 or 4.
That was a lot of piano, and it just kept going... My rating just kept dropping as it went on
I've heard wilder
that standard 70s sound
Pretty banging
Not really my thing, but it was quite diverse and enjoyable
always felt this was an overrated generic sounding album
pleasant
A lot of sounded like it would belong on an 80s porn VHS
Another album i always felt was overrated
i don't know what that was
Some of it is sublime, but it's not all equal
Starts strongly, fades a little but it's a good listen
It was a different time
A dull britpop-like beatles sound that trudged on through 17 allegedly distinct tracks
Decent, didn't sound dated
It's great stuff, just has a bit of a dated sound
Some of their best tracks
It was ok, very 80s
Some of his best stuff
Seems strange to give an album with two such hugely popular classics only 3 stars, but that's where we are
Not very interesting
Underwhelming
Some fine guitarwork
bit of a droner
Bangers
not a fan
Underwhelming considering the hype around them
Some of their most upbeat hits
Can't get that excited by this
Expected to get into that more
A nice break from the typical 70's and 80's sounds that seem to rule this list. Only shame is that for most tracks, i don't know what they're singing about, but the melodies are enough to carry it.
A bit all over, sometimes strong boyband vibes
Another great Album from this guy, shame we don't have more
didn't realise how much of this album i already knew, it's a nice mix of sounds
would this be on here if not for Piece of My Heart?
Good sounds
just too out there for me
It's an easy 4 with a couple bangers and lots of strong tracks.
It's pretty good, but i don't need 2 hours of it
Reading the wikipedia page before listening, and i have to agree a bit with Nico. I don't like the flute, and not much of a fan of the strings either
Just comes up a little bit short
this one isn't for me
I liked it but it's not going to be a regular listen
I preferred the more up tempo and less grungy sound of Get Behind Me Satan
Not very interesting
Don't feel it's their strongest album but it is enjoyable
Felt like a worse version of the beatles
never been my genre but i did enjoy it
Bit grungy, bit lively, some strokes vibes, hard to nail down, but great
Started well but got less chilled out, and less enjoyable as it went on
Big bag of meh
Actively annoying
chill
bored
It's a decent album, if you can ignore everything else
would listen again
Somehow, don't think i'd heard of them before. The sound hasn't really dated at all, and it's a good listen
Hard one to judge on a single listen. I have a good feeling that it's going to get more listens from me though. Fairly unique sounds, reminds me of early albums from The Streets
good all round listen, starts very strongly
Love take on me, it's such a good track, and video. But the rest of this album is one to skip
