**Picture the scene....** James Bond is in a swanky restaurant/bar with his unstirred tipple of choice. Across the room we see our megalomaniac enter and make his way to the table where he is introduced to Mr Bond by a mutual acquaintance. Our megalomaniac introduces his lady friend (she is beautiful and alluring but has a ridiculous Bond girl name) *Mr Bond, may I introduce Miss Phallus Devourer*...Mr Bond and Miss Devourer engage in some flirtatious banter because, unlike the audience, they are unaware that in approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes they will both be naked on a moleskin rug in a gigantic Swiss chalet where the the film will end with Mr Bond saying something like *Hmmm, Miss Devourer, I can see why they call you that*. Anyway, back to the restaurant/bar where Mr Bond and our megalomaniac are engaging in intelligent yet barbed conversation both aware of who the other is but unable to admit to it for plot tension purposes. The conversation ends, they say their goodbyes, Miss Devourer says *Lovely to meet you Mr Bond, I hope that you get what you want*...Mr Bond looks her up and down and says *I usually do* and then she turns and walks away on the arm of the megalomaniac seductively wiggling her hips as she does, but not before turning back to look at Mr Bond who raises his glass, and maybe an eyebrow, which causes Miss Devourer to flash a very sexy smile complete with fluttering eyelashes. James Bond has laid the groundwork for the complete annihilation of our megalomaniac followed by the triumphant bedding of his girlfriend....**End Scene** While all of that is going on, there is some music being played in the background. This album is that music

First thing to note is that the 3 hours and 27 minutes available on Spotify is not the right version. 3 hours and 27 minutes!! To clarify that is 207 minutes of the wrong version of this album. The good news is the correct version is on YouTube with CD1 being a mere 57:16 long and CD 2 registering as barely even a blip at 45:50 which comes in at a super quick 103 minutes. If you are unfortunate enough to not realise the incorrect version is on Spotify and just happen to look at the reviews and spot one that highlights that, it means that you have spent 310 minutes or, to be clearer, 5 hours and 10 minutes listening to LTJ Bukem and that is without considering YouTube adverts. Is the album any good? Honestly, I don't give a fuck if this is the best album out of the whole 1001 on the list, it is getting a 1 from me regardless of how good others think it is CD1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZK_0dgj43s CD2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYqDVqYSTxs
The Gilded Palace Of Sin is a great name for an album. It evokes images of Caligula levels of debauchery and Ozzy levels of substance abuse. The kind of place where legends are made and lost. Somewhere we all think we'd want to visit but in reality only very few can survive because a certain level of lunacy is needed. However, if you take a closer look at the album cover, their Gilded Palace Of Sin seems to be a derelict outhouse surrounded by a load of old garden rubble. Not a good start. Further inspection reveals the men are dressed like bellends and don't have the facial expressions of those living the "dream" that their album title suggests. Pressing play reveals that this is because despite their best efforts and, to be fair to them, their incredible band and album naming talents, musically they have created the most run of the mill country rock album you can imagine. Their name suggests excitement, risk, boundary pushing and their music reveals none of those qualities. In and era that brought us the genuine boundary pushing talents of artists like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd (to name but a few) who still get radio play today, it is no surprise that you may have heard of the The Flying Burrito Brothers but yet never heard The Flying Burrito Brothers. I didn't hate it, I just expected more from an album called The Gilded Palace Of Sin.
Yee-haw motherfuckers. In a world where rap music is too violent here is an album from 1959 that has various mentions of notches on a gun representing the number it had killed, a cowboy being trampled to death in a stampede, a jealous boyfriend shooting you in the chest and a song about being hung that evening for killing your ex girlfriend and her new man. I am currently reading The Dark Tower series which is based around a gunslinger in a different world and I think my gunsliner is tougher than Marty Robbins. If you have played Fallout New Vegas then you will know the song Big Iron.
