not bad but not really my thing

I definitely dont like The Rolling Stones

not my style

Surprisingly good for an album entirely in spanish

olvidable

hmmmm a bit too honky-tonk for me

a clean and different sound

More than half this album is mid tier songs at best. A few solid ones, but overall quite mediocre. 5/10

Not a huge fan of the stones

Not my cup of Tea

Yeah I think I'm done trying to make me being into the Rolling Stones happen. Angie is great and Salt of the Earth and maybe a handful of others, including You Can't Always Get What You Want from this album, but man songs like Midnight Rambler and Monkey Man (or whatever it was called) just annoy the crap out of me. Sorry I may just be having a bad reaction because I saw an Emo concert last night and now I'm totally into Emo.

Never knew what "Gimme Shelter" was called, but I recognized it pretty quickly when it started playing. Gives anti-war for me. Liked it! "Love in Vain" was a tone switch to a blues heavy style track. Not sure I appreciated the stereo split on my headphones. Made me feel they were playing in two different rooms with me in the doorway. Could have been the medium, but unfortunately ruined any chance it had for me, however small it originally was. Not bad, but not my style. "Country Honk" is exactly what it sounds like. Back to rock and roll for "Live With Me". Didn't really care for the song message. The music was alright. "Let It Bleed". The title track. 1m45 in and it's kind of boring. Didn't end up enjoying it really at all. Second half of "Midnight Rambler" was actually kind of interesting. "You Got The Silver" was better than the last 3 combined. "Monkey Man" had a good sound going. I think he went feral at the end? One of the better songs. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" is a very popular song already. It's not transcendental or anything, but I do quite enjoy the song. It earns a spot in my liked songs. Overall not a great album for me. The first and last songs can stay in my library, but they can't save the rest of the entire album's rating for sure. Knee jerk rating after a listen through is 2/5 overall.

I just don’t get the love for The Rolling Stones. I find them to be pretty boring. They have some songs I like, but when it comes down to full albums I’m always left disappointed. Might be one of the most overhype bands I’ve had to listen to.

#302/1001. Another mediocre Rolling Stones album, which flopped on the third song, a country version of honky tonk women? But you can't always get what you want, more a rule than an exception in this 1001 project.

i don’t think i care for the rolling stones tbh

Probably a 2.5/5. Definitely not one I’ll reach for again, but can see why it’s popular. Favorite: You Can’t Always Get What You Want

More like let it die

There's one good song and then a bunch of noise, but that one song is pretty good...

Wow this surprisingly sucked sandwiched between a good opener and closer

1/5. Last track +1

I like some Rolling Stone’s songs but I can’t say I was a fan of this album..

chillllll

The first and last songs are doing the HEAVY lifting on this album. The songs in the middle are....well they exist, on purpose. No clue why, but there those songs are. So my Rolling Stones experience has been, buy the greatest hits album.

I thought classic rock was supposed to be good

Not bad

I'm not surprised I've only heard 2 songs from this release. Shit sandwich.

harmonicas to me are the opposite of banjos where i'd expect to hate banjos but they produce the most beautiful sound known to man whereas i'd expect to love harmonicas and instead they make me want to stab my eyes with a pencil

Bare tester om du ser det jeg har skrevet her, og eventuelt kan skrive mer ting etter jeg har trykket "save" (husk evt. at dette ikke er passordbeskyttet og i teorien ligger åpent på nett om noen finner url-en) K: den er roger!

Not my jam

Too american for my taste

I didn’t like it that much

I just checked my history and this is my FOURTH Stones album. Crazy. My mom told me that when she was growing up in the 60s, you could either like the Beatles or the Stones but not both. You had to pick one. I'm like 90% sure she said she picked the Stones, but I remember listening to the Beatles a lot as a kid so who knows. Okay I just asked her, and she said she picked the Beatles, which makes more sense. Also why we got the 40 Licks compilation when I was a teenager, bc she knew some songs from the radio but hadn't really listened to them before. This Stones album is not it for me. Strong open, strong close, and just mush of British honky tonk in between. To be fair, You Can't Always Get What You Want is my favorite Stones song, but I'm underwhelmed by this album as a whole.

There's two famous songs on here but everything in between them falls flat on its face.

I do like Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want, but other than Monkey Man I really thought the other tracks were weak and forgettable. 2.5 -> 2/5

So boring, sorry. I’ll never get the hype around The Rolling Stones. I’m not a fan. Never have been. I wasn’t even aware of the hits on this album. I’m Eastern European, though, so I have the right to not know British shit. I’m actually glad this is the first time I’ve heard it, because it also means it’s going to be the fucking last.

the stones are the most overrated band of all time

Love In Vain really sounds bluesy, but it's like they're aping American music, not innovating or building on it. I see I called the album The Rolling Stones "a pale imitation of the American music which inspired it, washed-out and flavourless". I wouldn't go as far as flavourless here, but I don't know why I would listen to Country Honk on this album, with its faux-Southern accents and fiddle, when I could listen to an authentic version of the same style. Did the Stones do anything other than cultural appropriation of US culture? The last track was the answer to this: Yes, You Can't Always Get What You Want starts with a women's choir, so that's interesting, unusual, even original. Unfortunately it immediately devolved into basic rock and roll.

Ok so it makes me feel like uncultured swine to say....I didn't like anything about this album. Even You Can't Always Get What You Want I think was only enjoyable because of it's presence in mainstream culture. Everything else just fell so flat. It feels absolutely ensane to even think to dislike this album because it is THE ROLLING STONES - there's a freaking magazine named after them - but I just had a hard time appreciating their work. Again, uncultured, I get it and no one is more disappointed in me than me.

6/10 really did enjoy it liked it alot :)

I appreciate some of the Rolling Stones' best-known songs, but I've never been a fan. I tried to approach this album with fresh ears: it seemed moderately stylistically coherent, but unconvincing, the vocals annoying, I fidgeted as it trundled along in background. I concluded it is seven fillers, bookended by two iconic songs. Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want are imperfect but interesting songs, worthy of many a listen - without them, the album would be a 1, with them I give it a 2.

Never been a Stones guy, for the most part. This album has heavy blues with a couple of decent Stones classics. I was actually glad this one came along because several of the past few selections were trash. Still, Mick's voice doesn't do it for me....

2.4/5 Some ok songs but nothing amazing.

Save:0

Inte riktigt min stil, känns äldre och lite långsamt. Sista låten You can't always get what you want den som sticker ut

I like the variety this album offers but it felt a little all over the place. I do not care for their attempt at the blues, it does nothing for me and does not hit like other blues artists/albums. I also can’t stand the song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” due to my mother rage baiting/singing it to us as kids when we wanted something (and obviously couldn’t have it). Favourite song was Gimme Shelter. There really is only one good song (gimme shelter) everything else was just alright, kind of blended into the background

It's not that meaningful for me, it didn't really get my attention only liked 2 songs out of the album.

Strong start, strong finish. Strange sort of honky tonk in between.

A few good songs. Kinda ass

There is an Ick Factor to the Stones that is particularly pronounced on this album, classic as it may be. Just when you think there may be a noble sentiment it turns gross. Basically it seems like Mick Jagger & Co. enjoyed using women, and they have trouble rising above the most sensual and selfish desires. Sometimes it’s overt and sometimes it’s just barely hidden, but it’s always just a kiss away. Practiced at the art of deception indeed.

While having two of the best Stones songs of their catalogue, Let It Bleed is let down quite heavily by a whole lot of filler in the middle. This record lacks any direction or distinctive sound that makes me want to revisit this anytime soon. Best Tracks: - Gimme Shelter - You Can't Always Get What You Want - Monkey Man Worst Tracks: - Love In Vain - Live With Me - Let It Bleed Rating: 5/10

Quite incredible how old this album is and that TRS are still recording and touring.

meh, this album was fine I guess? I was just bored, i actually started falling asleep lol. Love is Vain was cool, I liked it's blues vibes. You Got the Silver was nice. I actually liked the production on Monkey Man, but the lyrics don't grab me. I've heard "You Can't Always Get What You Want" before as a kid, it's quite familiar. It's fine, i like it well enough. I think I only really vibe with 2 or 3 songs on here. That's only 1/3 lol. I probably have to give it a 2 just because of that. 2.5/5

Not my favorite

So many of these songs are longer than they need to be

Surprisingly dull. The opening and closing tracks are fine, I guess

Psychedelic Rock/Blues sounding The songs sound the same - I get excited when they sound a little different and stand out more Favourites: Midnight Rambler Gimme shelter Monkey Man The vibe is driving down an American road in the summer, except unlike Ventura Highway, I do not love it and found the album boring. Rating: 2/5

Wow, two Rolling Stones' albums in a row. Ooof, this album is just meh. I really don't like the blues and this feels mostly blues. I will reiterate my point about Exile On Main Street, the Stones put out like 1 or 2 good songs on an album then wrap it in a bunch of mediocre songs. Like Let It Bleed and You Can't Always Get What You Want are good songs but the rest is generic boring blues, they just aren't an album band for me. I'm tempted to give this a lower score because I got two Stones albums back to back but I will go with the middle of the road 2.5 but rounded down because it came back to back with another of their albums.

Two of the Stones’ best songs at the beginning and end, middle completely skippable.

I dont even remember a single song from there, too boring for my taste

Horny for no reason

Preferred this to my listening experience with Some Girls, which isn't saying much. Rolling Stones they will never make me like you and your honky tonk stylings

Mediocre at best.

3 decent songs exactly evenly distributed across 9 tracks so you have to keep listening to the end if you want to hear that one song. the one etched in my brain because of a coke commercial from when i was kid. some sources say the song was even inspired by coca cola - beautiful symmetry. "Allegedly, the store didn’t have any Cherry Coke at the time, and Hutmaker, standing behind Jagger in the queue, said, “Well, you can’t always get what you want”." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oB9o2X7Yjyk&t=20s https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/the-rolling-stones-you-cant-always-get-what-you-want-mean/ while looking that up, i also found a motorolla ad from 1998 and a levi's one from 1990. easy to imagine that the list goes on. hard to imagine that they didn't foresee these fat paychecks coming from that platitudinous chorus. a business more than a band. why we needed a bunch of white english boys making blues music i'll never know, and after 60 something years i think the answer is still we never did. highlights: monkey man ("I'm a cold Italian pizza I could use a lemon squeezer"), let it bleed ("Yeah, we all need someone we can cream on Yeah, and if you want to, well, you can cream on me"). i guess they were going to the beach that day.

Despite having seen the Rolling Stones once (Berlin Olympic Stadium in 1990) I've never been a fan. I'd never heard this album before but it's not changed my mind. Musically it's good in parts, although I recognise the style from their other music that I've heard over the years, so it's a bit 'samey' to me. What spoils it is Jagger's singing. It's too lazy, too indistinct and too mono-tonal for me. I won't be going back to listen to this again.

Smithers, have The Rolling Stones killed. I think I hate The Rolling Stones. They’re such a great singles band: Gimme Shelter that opens this album is such a good song, but the 8 tracks that follow are so so bad. They’re sound phoned in as hell, just really boring blues riffs and lazy yelps from Jagger. Just an awful time.

Bookended by a couple of classics but not much going on in the middle to be honest.

A Shit sandwich made with extremely good bread.

Too old

Heller ikke et album med den store påvirkning. Meget slide-guitar og mundharmonika.

Two decent songs as bookends with a whole lot of meh in the middle

Not great, love the instruments but the voices are so bad

Most of the songs on this album don't fully click for me. If I just could have been in the studio with them governing the mix, I think some of these songs would have been homeruns.

Death hangs heavily over this album. Brian Jones, the founder of the band, was unceremoniously fired from the band a few weeks into the recording due to his drug habit and was found dead, drowned in his swimming pool, not long after. The day after the album was released the Stones played the infamous Altamont festival and a young fan was stabbed to death by the Hells Angels who had been hired as ‘security’ for the event. The high points on this album are the first and last track, but a lot of their impact now is due to their use on every dime a dozen gangster movie set at the end of the sixties. The rest of the music is just more white men from England appropriating delta blues and honky tonk music, sung with Jagger’s louche and lazy drawl. I don’t need to hear this again, I think.

Don't tell me it's the Rolling Stones and just let me experience the shimmering guitar opening and build-up of "Gimme Shelter" before Jagger's voice lets the secret slip. Might this be my favorite record of theirs? Well, "Love in Vain" and other songs assure me that the answer is likely to be: no, you'll always prefer a greatest hits, if anything. I have trouble getting over their particular blues-rock experience, and Mick being too forward in the mix rarely helps. But then you have "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and the already mentioned "Gimme Shelter," which are absolute classics. Even a Stones hater like myself respects the hits.

Really not as good as I hoped it would be. A couple of good tracks.

🤷‍♂️

Not my thing, unfortunately

Gimme Shelter and 7 other songs “You Can’t Always…” at least has some effort put into it Very country-esc, and I don’t like country :(

cake yay

A bit too country flavoured for my taste.

Monkey Man was my favourite!

I gotta focus more on the positive things: Gimme shelter is a good song. Fav: Gimme shelter

Hella boomer coded. A lot of the songs feel like just two lyrics repeated. The singers voice makes me want to crawl out of my body a little bit. Feel like the album could grow on me though with more intentional listening.

mid, cool cover

Not my thing. Similar vibes to Phish. Bad singing especially in a recorded album. Comparable to a decent live tavern band, not as good because this is supposed to be a professionally recorded album.

Achei sem sal.

I just don’t like the stones. Sorry world.

Well the rolling stones surely is a big name but I didn’t roll with their album “let it bleed”, I kept being silent just like the stones. This album gets a 3.8/10 for me. For me this kind of music is so far away from me and listening to it felt like exploring a barren desert, you might find something interesting but it turns out it’s just your hallucinations–they call this desert mirage. So I guess it was a fun experience. I wouldn’t listen again to it tho! Surely not for fun or as a first choice. The lyrics are written from a pure source and I think the lyrics are brilliant, but good lyrics with a boring melody for me is a no. They had energy in most of these songs, almost like they’re drunk and energized and you can totally listen to it if you’re drunk or going through a crisis at 3 AM or whatever. Its not really for me, but it was good for what it was trying to be;the songs were absorbing the situation around them by that time, and you can hear the tension and changes through the songs. I liked the intro of most of these songs especially Gimmie shelter and Monkey man, and the gospel intro of their last track. But as the songs go on.. they downgrade and I wish that the mid sections and the rest of the songs were as good as the intro.

Great opener, 7 filler songs, great closer

2 good songs with junk in the middle. I wanted to like it, but I really didn't like it at all.

Like the other reviews state, a couple good songs such as the opener and closer, Let it Bleed, but overall a pretty boring album.

5/5 for the cake vinyl artwork. 2/5 for the music.

I didnt really like the beat of any of the songs.

No mesperava que rollings podrien fer un alb.um aixi LOL. not dels millors però hi han cançons q estan bé

It’s alright - sometimes the fake Englishman blues act can get a bit played out. Couple classic tracks tho, sound good on openback headphones.

One song on the album is worth listening to more than once - You Can’t Always Get What You Want. Mick Jagger’s stupid lyrics and lame attempts at country style singing ruin the generally fun instrumental music.

Southern American blues rockers The Rolling Stones express how they were feeling as young working class Black men at the height of the Civil Rights movement. Did I get that right? Oh they aren’t American? They’re not Black? Or working class?

Sterk åpning, men Dylan-parodien holder ikke helt ut. Beste låt: Gimme Shelter

Pretty indifferent, but You Can’t Always Get What You Want is an epic song

I have listened to this album before (thanks mom!). Although there's a few songs on here that I enjoy enough, overall this album is not for me. I don't really enjoy the country lean and it feels a bit messy to me.

пришла мысль что с другим вокалом может быть меня бы это всё так не бесило. ну и поменьше хонки тонка, сколько можно)

Giving this a 2 only because there is one decent song.

Mid. Not vibing with this one

2 good tracks and a ton of filler. At least this thing is short.

A strange album. It's a good thing the track "Midnight Rambler" was on it, otherwise I would of voted it as a poor one from them.

Every song that doesn’t have professional background singers on the track was hard for me to sit through. And unfortunately for me it’s the first and last out of 9 songs. I gave a star for each. Blues vocals are supposed to dig deep into you, stimulate and soothe the vagus nerves. If I could I would give another half a star for the praise break in the middle of Midnight Rambler. I’m not familiar with the drug combo that influenced this music and therefore cannot vibe with it.

Two great songs, the rest were fillers in my opinion. And I’ve heard better versions of You Can Always Get What You Want. Sounds like things were a bit unorganized.

Not working for me 5/10

Let it bleed is the album title for an over the top death metal band, between this and paint it black you'd be forgiven for expecting a bunch of goths. Gimme shelter/can't always get what you want are good songs, the bit in the middle was a largely acceptable bluesy rock album. When you hear this you think maybe Beatles did sound incredibly experimental at the time considering the other huge band were a bit straightforward. 2.5, more a 2.

Not crazy about the stones. Friday off early looking at schools. Looked at clouds after

All went downhill after the opener.

Don't tell anyone I asked this, but....are The Rolling Stones bad?

No one that didn't hear this back in the day needs this. A couple of classics, but no need to listen again.

There are two camps: the Stones or the Beatles. I'm firmly a Beatles girl. This was great at times, cringey at times, and just meh at times. It starts and ends so well. The middle is a bit messy. Gimme Shelter: great opener! Classic. Love in Vain: oof. After such a great start, this was a major step back. I'm not a big fan of fiddles and such, so that's part of my dislike. Country Honk: not sure I am buying these English guys singing about good old American honky-tonk. This feels like cosplay. Love with Me: this is a little better. Let it Bleed: oh no. I do not like the accent Mick is pulling on this. Yes, you like cocaine. Good for you. Midnight Rambler: this is fun. You Got the Silver: felt longer than it's 2:50 play time, but it was fine. Monkey Man: good music; not sure about the lyrics/vocals. Makes me think of Steven Tyler, which is something I try to avoid doing. You Can't Always Get What You Want: this song is such a classic. It's great. Perfect. And what a way to end an album. Overall: Strong start and finish with nothing great in between.

At the risk of losing my inheritance, I never liked The Stones. Jagger's voice always annoyed me and they sound so of a time. Somehow The Stones have six albums in the 1001 which I am now questioning. Surely, they should have chosen one album to represent their catalog. Surely, there are five other non-Stones albums that deserve the designation. Maybe this is a mistake after all.

dr gregory house

Was ok

Didn't really enjoy it to be honest and not super sure what to make of it. Sorry I'm phoning it in today so I can listen to the next album

A couple of classics, the rest filler

Did not like this except for you can’t always get what you want

I find The Rolling Stones not very interesting. First song was good but the rest is not interesting for me. This is my 5th album by them so far. This is like a 3 but I'm taking a point for being nothing new compared to the Stones albums I've had so far because I'm annoyed at these repeat-artists where the extra albums don't add anything.

This album comes across as insincere to me, and with each song except the first and maybe the last two being faux-honky tonk, there's not much here for me to enjoy. That being said, "Gimme Shelter" is pretty great.

Really, only two songs define this album for me, and when I listen to those two songs, "Let It Bleed" is good. "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" are good. But what about the rest? The rest of the album is absolute garbage. Mick Jagger's voice on some songs is simply unbearable. Not to mention Keith Richards' guitar. So let it bleed; it doesn't get more than two stars.

Aldrig varit en stor fan av Rolling Stones. Detta känns ofärdigt. Det finns ju några bra låtar bakom ganska taffliga och daterade arrangemang. Tvåa

Disappointing and boring

Went in excited to hear the album. Listening to the iconic guitar riff of "Gimme Shelter" the awesome low piano bass notes and the anthemic chorus with interesting lyrics got me more psyched. But then the album went downhill fast, more so than bad it just felt average. The Rolling Stones sound like a mediocre blues band for a big part of the album, the lyrics sound poser-ish (blues lyrics cliches delivered with a "bluesy vibe" that doesn't come across as authentic) You just don't believe that Mick Jagger has the blues. The album picks up with Monkey Man, the band does much better with faster paced rocking songs than the mid to low tempo blues. The album finishes very strong with "you can't always get what you want" which has a strong message and an original distinct arrangement as well as of course having a memorable hook. It's a bit painful to give an album with two bonafide classics a low rating, but also hard to give a decent rating to an album that I spent the majority of the time disliking

Sitä männävuosien rokkia, joka ei itselle tee paljoa mitään. Parit hyvät rallit, kerran kuunteli.

Much like Aftermath (both versions) this is one good song followed up by a bunch of not-so-good ones, in this case not-so-good blues imitation.

Not really interesting, a bit of a chore to get through apart from two, by far, biggest songs. Shame, because I thought I like Rolling Stones.

Gimme shelter: 2.75/5 Love in vain: 2/5 Country honk: 0.5/5 Live with me: 2.5/5 Let it bleed: 2/5 Midnight rambler: 3/5 You got the silver: 2/5 Monkey man: 1.5/5 You cant always get what you want: 3/5

I've heard "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" through the years. Those are the classics, and understandably have the most listens on YT Music. I was hoping there would be a hidden gem in this album otherwise, but the rest blends together into a forgettable hodge-podge. With that in mind (and given the purpose of this album list), I didn't need to hear this album. 2/5.

It's ok, but I never really got into The Rolling Stones' music.

sure, there are big hits here that are almost like cultural touchstones. but most of the album is nothing special compared to what actual blues artists create.

This album is like a bad sandwich where the bread is the best part - the first and last songs are classics, but what comes in the middle is best forgotten.

Mindblowing how an album can start of with one of the best songs ever written and then just contain boring, casual music with barely anything noteworthy

Kind of annoying

Honestly, plain jane blues rock IDK why it's so popular. Times were different I suppose.

Never liked The Rolling Stones tbh. I'm sure they're rock icons but for the most of time their music is just simple unstandable to me...I can see their influence on so called pop-rock easily I mean when you-never heard rock once-pictured what it's like to sound "rocky" it's the sound of Let It Bleed. However I really don't like them.

great song, boring songs, good song. wow, a real classic here lads

classic rock n roll, not really my thing but I can appreciate the iconic sound that inspired so much of popular music 🫡

This is my punishment for saying that all Rolling Stones tracks sound like nothing to me yesterday. This album doesn't help. The songs are fine but I still have no idea how people recognize that it's The Stones before Mick starts singing. I feel like I could've heard the same songs on different artists' albums. What a nothingburger. 2/5

Stones catalogue is 95% boring ass basic ass rock and roll I couldn't care less about, and the last 5% are some of my favorite songs ever. I don't know how they do it but it's incredibly impressive.

Se for pra ouvir blues, principalmente country blues, prefiro ouvir os violeiros negros estadunidenses. Ainda assim, tem uns slides e coral mto bons nesse disco

chato pra caralho apesar da primeira música ser a melhor deles

wasn’t a fan honest, nothing stuck out to me

first track is pretty good

I thought I liked the rolling stones but I really wasn't into this album

I thought the Rolling Stones made a different type of music that wasn't so laid back. Maybe their sound changed over time. This sounds like the Byrds or something. High 2.

Definitely an influential band, just not for me. The lyrics are crass and borderline vulgar without making much of a point with it, and the country thwangs make me hesitant to listen more. The stand-out hits are the only ones you need in this album.

Great beginning, great ending, but how is this a great album? The middle songs were forgettable and Mick Jagger's voice is grating as ever. I'm starting to feel the only way I will actually enjoy the stones is if some "greatest hits" album comes along. Too much chaff.

I'll cum all over you, I'm called the hit-and-run raper, in anger.

I have really conflicting feelings about this album. “Gimme Shelter” is perhaps one of my favourite songs of this whole era. It’s just immaculate from start to finish. The instrumentation, the vocals from both singers, and everything else about it is incredible. The rest of the album verges on unlistenable. Keith Richards attempts at bluesy vocals are just so annoying. “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” is a decent track to close off the album, but it pales in comparison to the opener. This record is like a sandwich where the first slice of bread is an incredible and soft homemade sourdough, the toppings are nothing but expired hamster food, and the top slice is some wonderbread. Gimme Shelter: 5* Tracks 2-8: 1* You Can’t Always.. : 3* I think that averages out to 1.666666666* so we’ll just round up.

You can’t spell Mick Jagger without “ick”, which is what I get from him and his lyrics. Musically, it’s derivative and repetitive. Ugh. 4/10

Generally like rolling stones but this album was too much blues influence and I wasn't feeling it at the time. 'You can't always get what you want' is a top stones song for me and great note to end on.

‘You can cream on me’!!????

One of my favorite Rolling Stones songs (Gimme Shelter) and then the rest of the album just really fell flat for me. 2.5

I regret to inform the rolling stones that we do not all need someone we can cream on. It boggles my mind that anyone ever let ugly british guys get away with this kind of cosplay. Extra star for gimme shelter which would be ten thousand times better if Merry Clayton sang the entire song instead of just backing vocals

Best Song: Gimme Shelter. The guest vocals are by far the best part of this album, and more than likely the best part of The Stones' entire oeuvre. Worst Song: Love in Vain. Not sure if it's outright the worst, but the drop in quality from Gimme Shelter to this is gargantuan. Overall: Apart from the two genuinely great songs that smartly bookend the album, the middle is just a gulf of meh. Mick Jagger's appeal comes from his energy and zeal, not his singing ability, and this album has a lot of just listening to him sing.

After Beggar's Banquet being so bad, I wasn't looking forward to this, despite the fact that Gimmie Shelter is a fantastic song. Listening to it. As soon as Gimmie Shelter finished, I was starting to get annoyed with the album. It's amazing just how big the delta between the Stones', stone cold classic, best songs and their faux honkey tonk, dog shit, album tracks is. In a way, the few good songs being great makes me more angry with the other songs, as they show how good the band can be when they get it right. It's hard to comprehend how a band can write songs as good as Gimmie Shelter or Paint it Black and then think songs like Country Honk deserve to be on the same record. I'm genuinely baffled.

Can’t lie, this is probably one of my least favorites from The Rolling Stones, the album is fucking cool & I don’t hate it but it just wasn’t great for me.

Gave 2 only for the 1st song. The rest were standard

Catching up so maybe I didn't do it justice, but even just listening to the most popular songs didn't get me into it.

I don’t really get the hype around the Stones. Jagger’s voice is pretty awful to me. Love in Vain could be a good song if it was sung by someone else. Musicianship is pretty good though and carries the songs. Very boring

Didn’t love it, hits were ok but rest of album sucked. Sounded like a bunch of people playing different songs at the same time.

exceptional strong five star opener and closers, sadly filled with other songs i’ll never listen to again .

I love the opening and closing tracks. For the rest, if I wanted to listen to country music, I wouldn't look to the Stones. I don't want to listen to country music. Skip, skip, skip, skip. FFS, I wanted to like this one. 2/5

Any goodwill regarding this album that I got from the first song quickly left as the album went on.

I don't know if the stones actually needed to try a bluesy-country song.....

One of those cases where every review in here is correct, what if we made the bookend songs all time classics with complicated and breathtaking soundscapes and made the rest of the album boring and sound like shit

This is outstandingly generic (and even bad) blues rock, no creativity involved at all. It would have made a perfect 7inches record with Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want.

Utána Paint it Blacket dobott a Spoti, az jó volt. Ez nem.

I genuinely can't believe people actually think Rolling Stones were better than The Beatles. I mean really? Really? They couldn't even make a good album. Gimme Shelter, Love In Vain, and Midnight Marauder are great though

Rolling Stones always sound like a sort of embarrassing impression of American blues to me. No change here, very very boring. A very generous 2 stars.

Can't say it really moved me, perhaps I am not a fan of the Stones

An album which is more even than its predecessor and has better production. Where BB had 2-3 excellent songs, this one has 1 okay song, the opener Gimme Shelter. The rest are mid to bad.

"Opening and closing tracks are objectively great but man, the Stones (much like Queen) just don't do it for me beyond their singles. For such a deep discography, i have yet to find an album that really makes me ""get"" them. "

There are better rolling stones albums

Please don't let the Stones make another R&B record. I can't stand it. Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want bookend a pile of R&B songs that I almost couldn't stand. I'm not sure what my deal is with that genre of music but it really isn't for me.

First and last songs are good, the decent bread on a shit sandwich

Álbum de rock bem clássico, mas com muita instrumentação de country. Até gostei de algumas músicas mas não do trabalho como um todo.

Honestly this feels like a half-assed album by a band I’m already sort of ambivalent about. There are a couple of great tracks, but the rest sound more like demos than finished tracks, which might be cool if I were more of a Stones fan, but I’m not.

Como diriam os britânicos: Not my cup of tea.

The hits are good. The rest are... meh. Deep cut tolling stones is nit worth listening to.

Boring

Even there are a couple of good - great songs, I just can't get into most of them and don't like the Rolling Stones.

Some goods

A lot of uninspired Country Blues.

oldheads really thought this was fire 💀💀💀

too country, hitearia en los años 70

Wtf? Is dit The Rolling Stones go country?

Not crazy about this one. Standout Track: Gimme Shelter

Classic album with multiple hit tunes

I do not like this album! 2/5

Between my distaste for Beggars Banquet and my mild amusement with Sticky Fingers sits Let It Bleed, a record where all I have to say is, “Yup, that’s The Rolling Stones, all right, American blues pastiche with a couple cool hard rock guitar licks and fun vocal work by Mick Jagger.” My apathy suggests that I may be officially off The Rolling Stones hype train, despite never actually being on to begin with. Unlike Beggars Banquet, I don’t find it grating, but unlike Sticky Fingers, it’s not a tolerated listen, either. Honestly? I think they’d be better if they were American, but they aren’t, so, oh well, meh.

Gimme shelter är ju häftig. Övriga låtar är inte lika häftiga.

"Gimme Shelter" is an all time hit and the same goes for "You Can't Always Get What You Want". I don't even love classic rock all that much. The middle of the record was a mid honky tonk blend, and also a bit too horny for me.

Three songs in and it seemed like an hour of tourture.

Classics

Zwei Songs sind ok und haben auch die Zeit überlebt, aber es bleibt halt Rolling Stones.

Why it is so mellow for a band that is so iconic? I honestly expected to be hit in the face with music of the legends, but it's almost like a lullaby

2 or 3 decent song then a bunch of country garbage

Rolling Stones have some all time classic songs (in this case Gimme Shelter) but from what I’ve heard so far by them, they are all spread apart on different albums , so you don’t get that amazing streak like the Michael Jackson album we had earlier. So there was a lot of filler between the classic in track 1 and the well known closing track. So to go full Alan Partridge I think my favourite Rolling Stones album would probably be the best of

Not a fan of the Stones.

Didn’t connect with me as I don’t really like classic Blues or Country. Maybe I will find my way into it at some time. If I try to break down why I don’t like these genres, I’d say it is the way the singer sings/speaks/tells a story and a missing musical theme besides the typical cadence. It feels more like musical banter which would be cool in a bar or something but consciously listening to it on the road or elsewhere It doesn’t do it for me. I also think that it matters with what kind of music you grow up. Additionally my age (mid twenties) and the many years between now and when the record came out could play a role here. Going forward I’ll still try to be open minded and will not just skip those records. Maybe I just do not have the ear for it right now and am missing something. In the end there are still a few parts and elements I really enjoy.

Possibly influenced by just waking up and not being in a music mood, but this is so boring omg. It's just so uuuuuugggghhhhh. Repetitive and completely uninteresting. Monkey man was the only acceptable song

It's totally fine. I kind of hoped I'd enjoy it a bit more based on how widely-praised the Stones are, but I mean, it's just fine. Not much beyond that

Few good classic songs.

not really my jam

mid 2.5/5

I'm not huge on the rolling stones, this is ok. 2*. Highlight: you can't always get what you want I had Spotify on shuffle and missed half the album. Went back to the beginning and my opinion hasn't changed. Something about these guys doing honky tonk is meh. Good for them for branching out, but meh. Only the highlight stands out.

You Cant Always Get What You Want.

2/5 This album has one or two good songs but “can’t always get what you want” is not one I like and brings the album down from 3-2

Gimme Shelter is a banger, the rest fall off so hard it’s a shame

Meh. 2/5

Has many incredible elements, but doesn't really connect with me.

I'm almost 100% sure that the reason the Rolling Stones are so big in the United States compared to other British bands from the time (save for maybe the Who) due to their insistent need to make themselves "countey," that way it appeals to all those with an affection for country rock. Now, admittedly, Rolling Stones are better at it than the average country rock group, but as someone who can't stand the genre most of the time, this isn't that much better. Mick Jagger's voice never is pleasing on the ears, and a lot of the tracks here can blend together, despite being pretty varying in sound. It also has lyrics here that feel questionable at best, such as "We all need someone to cream on," which just left me feeling awkward. Rolling Stones at thie point seems to have completely abandoned any sort of psychedelic influence by this point, which is a real shame because their best tracks came from a mixture of bluesy rock and that era's brand of psychedelics, see Paint It Black. It leads to this album being a really sobering experience compared to its contemporaries, and in an era of so much experimentation, this feels too safe to be all that special. I get why it has its fans, especially for those who grew up with it, but for a more modern set of eyes, I'd question choosing Rolling Stones over any of their British Invasion siblings, and this album is the perfect example as to why.

Couple of good songs, but rolling stones should stay in their lane

Nothing of note. Not for me. I did realize that You Cant Always Get What You Want is a Rolling Stones song, which I did not know.

I still feel like a lot of the Stones appeal was just the novelty of white brits doing black American soul but whatev it was fine ig

They've made better albums....

Not a fan of rock and roll

Leave it to the Stones to create an album that sounds like someone recorded a karaoke bar and sold it. First song is a banger, last song is a banger... Chuck all the stuff in the middle and it would be perfect

This album is just not good. I remain baffled as to why The Rolling Stones are a thing.

If it has more than 2 classics it would be a 3

The first and last tracks are bangers. But not a fan of all the honky in between.

I always suspected I wouldn’t enjoy the Rolling Stones. It’s nice to have that confirmed.

Meh. Never been much of a Stones fan. And this early stuff got more refined in later years.

2/5. it was okay not my type of music. i did enjoy gimmie shelter though

Pretty boring attempt at a bunch of blues songs. 3 good songs among a bunch of filler.

Not really a Stones fan. Listened to the album, still not a fan.

Gimme shelter is a 5 star effort, but the rest is just blech. Drop the choir from the closer.

I was never a Stones fan, and this album is really just a series of accomplished musicians covering some good blues music. I didn't realise how 'meh' this was until Spotify played a T-Rex song straight after that was lively and original, and kind of woke me up!

I don't enjoy the fake honky-tonk music. Lyrics are dumb and just unappealing vibes overall. Fav track: Gimme Shelter

I only love The Rolling Stones I grew up listening to with my mum and sister

Some good songs but I really can't stand his voice on the slower songs. It's bad. I would not want to listen to most of these songs again.

It was nice, kinda boring yk, but the first song was good

Sounds like every other album from this time.

Some pretty good songs (the ones you know) surrounding by a bunch of bad blues-y songs that you don’t know for a reason.

gotta agree w ben here (and the other reviews) that thing album has two good songs. opening track and closing track. that’s it

Catchy thieves.

not my thing

I know it's a classic, but Mick's voice sounds awful on this album. It sounds like a parody of a singer.

2 famous songs can’t make up for the rest of that noise.

Rolling Stones. Shmeh.

Have honestly not heard that album before as not a stones fan. Good opening track and a few others drew me in but not sure I'll be wading back in again.

I had high expectations of this album. They were not met. I've heard a handful of Rolling Stones songs in my life, and most of them I really liked. Some I even loved. None of the songs I'd heard are on this album. And after listening, I'd go as far as to say none of the Rolling Stones songs I particularly like are on here. I wouldn't say this was a bad album. But there was nothing that particularly caught my interest in a positive way. I think I prefer their softer stuff, because most of the softer songs I found enjoyable enough. However some songs, especially the rockier ones and that goddamn country song, really made me cringe. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" is probably the best song on here. I enjoyed it, and could see it growing on me. The chorus lyrics are simple but powerful. I think, after the classical intro, it was less experimental than I was hoping for, but it was still good. The best thing about this album was that it was short, and I'm not just saying that because I didn't like the album. It's the first album I've gotten so far that isn't overly long, and I really appreciated that. Favourite songs: You Got The Silver, You Can't Always Get What You Want

You know how I feel about the Stones!!! Overrated! There, I said it. I understand their appeal, but I just don't like to listen to more than their typical classic rock hits. This record starts out strong with, "Gimme Shelter", then goes to awful with "Love in Vain"... then the third track - after skipping within 30 seconds to it - had a frickin' fiddle! NOOOOO. "Live With me" - Ok. The Title Song is another mediocre song. Midnight Rambler is better. Ending with You Can't Always Get..." Done. I'll hear the popular cuts on the radio someday, but will not be playing these songs again.

I'm not really sure why this Rolling Stones album is in this list. It starts off as an okay album and degenerates into drivel. The album is coasting entirely off of the Rolling Stones name and I'm disappointed in the creator of the list for including it, especially when the Stones have so many albums and there are so many good albums that didn't make this list. If you're looking to introduce someone to the Rolling Stones, don't start with this album.

boomer rock. I tried to appreciate it, and learn to understand the stones a bit better, but I left with the same impression I came in with; the stones have a groove, and most of their music just stews in it.

I like the country style but this felt not enough

first album so far I go into expecting it to be good as I have listened to Gimme Shelter and Monkey Man a lot prior It changes genre too much but I guess this was good back in the hippie age of "lets just throw random shit in because us junkies wont be cognisant enough to listen to it anyways"

I never really got into the Stones, even after hearing a few of their "best" albums (including this one). I'm just not into the country/blues rock sound that much. It's decent, just not my vibe.

I didn't know there were so many blues heavy tracks on this album and that intrigued me. However, they are all literal filler tracks sandwiched between the two radio hits at each end of the album.

I like Gimme Shelter

I understand that the first and last songs ate incredibly well known and influential. However I shamefully admit that this album wasn’t what I thought it would be. I thought it was going to be hard classic rock but instead we got a mix of country and something else. Maybe I listened wrong or am way off, but I was disappointed!

Strong start with Gimme Shelter, but then went into some sort of Country hoedown that I didn't expect. Not a massive fan of Stones in general, but with wasn't for me.

3(1,4,ult) musicas fixes. O resto do conteúdo parece um bocado básico e dormente. Comecou e fechou bem, o meio é filler para encher palha

Some very nice moments (Love in Vain, Midnight Rambler stand out), but very inconsistent. Country Honk in particular is unnecessary. Teetering between 2 drops of blood or 3, but rounding down, because there's enough material from the Stones already on here. 🩸🩸

I understand why they are popular, but it's too "honky tonk" for me.

This was ok. Not a fan of TS

Pretty dull.

Most of this album is absolutely terrible, but Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want each get a star because they’re bops.

Great opener and closer. Garbage in the middle.

2nd listen. I’ve listened to all the main Rolling Stones albums and found out that I really don’t like them.

Just don't care for the stones. 2.5

Not my favorite RS album

This is the second of what will surely be too many records on this list from The Rolling Stones. This is a lot better than the first record given to me--"Exile on Mainstreet"--but I just can't get in to this band. There are a couple of well known songs on this that are fine, but also just a lot of blues bar band sounding wankery. No Thanks!

Not a fan of the blues style here.

Unpopular opinion: the Rolling Stones are only "meh"...

everytime i listen to the rolling stones it makes me hate the rolling stones

I hate the style of this album. I hate the piano sound, the southern-type fiddle playing, and the backing vocals. Would definitely be a 1.5 if I could give it that, and I don't quite think I can reasonably give it a 1 so I reluctantly am giving it a 2. It's probably the "worst" 2 I've given though.

The Rolling stones are boring. This album is boring. 2/5.

ug. 2 i think. yea straight people are terrible lol.

Pretty wild how a band called the rolling stones has gathered quite a bit of moss when it comes to being an entertaining listen. I was never a stones fan but as I hear more of their albums I realize that was for the best. They have some good songs in their library, and You Can't Always Get What You Want is one of them, but the rest of these felt like songs I've heard a hundred times already on this list. What was it about these guys that people fell in love with? Maybe their gyrating hips at live shows? We may never know.

I don't really like the Stones. Gimmie Shelter is like all of the backing parts of a song just got fully fleshed out but no song in the middle of it. Country Honk makes me want to die. I am really not in the mood for these clowns this morning. You Can't Always Get What You Want is a great tune. and that is what keeps this album from being a 1 imho.

I just don’t get it, why all the fuss? The music is sloppy.

Ok album, bluesy

p167. 1969. 2 stars Got to be honest, I've never been a fan of the Stones - booze soaked, drug raddled white boy blues rip-offs with a fucking annoying fat lipped gobshite who thinks he is God's gift to women for a front man. The faux blues-country whine he uses on most of this album is really annoying, especially when everyone knows he comes from Dartford. On the plus side they know how to knock out a good tune (Gimme Shelter, Midnight Rambler, though You Can't Always Get What You Want outstays its welcome), and the band is tight - Keith Richards is on form, and Nicky Hopkins and Ian Stewart stand out on every track they are on. At the end of the day it comes over as the so-so efforts of an average white band in it for the chicks.

Surprisingly dull.

2 overplayed tracks with a bunch of filler. 2/5

Those guys dont catch me that much, at least yet. However, Gimme shelter is a nice song.
