2 or 3 decent song then a bunch of country garbage

Rolling Stones have some all time classic songs (in this case Gimme Shelter) but from what I’ve heard so far by them, they are all spread apart on different albums , so you don’t get that amazing streak like the Michael Jackson album we had earlier. So there was a lot of filler between the classic in track 1 and the well known closing track. So to go full Alan Partridge I think my favourite Rolling Stones album would probably be the best of

Not a fan of the Stones.

Didn’t connect with me as I don’t really like classic Blues or Country. Maybe I will find my way into it at some time. If I try to break down why I don’t like these genres, I’d say it is the way the singer sings/speaks/tells a story and a missing musical theme besides the typical cadence. It feels more like musical banter which would be cool in a bar or something but consciously listening to it on the road or elsewhere It doesn’t do it for me. I also think that it matters with what kind of music you grow up. Additionally my age (mid twenties) and the many years between now and when the record came out could play a role here. Going forward I’ll still try to be open minded and will not just skip those records. Maybe I just do not have the ear for it right now and am missing something. In the end there are still a few parts and elements I really enjoy.

Possibly influenced by just waking up and not being in a music mood, but this is so boring omg. It's just so uuuuuugggghhhhh. Repetitive and completely uninteresting. Monkey man was the only acceptable song

It's totally fine. I kind of hoped I'd enjoy it a bit more based on how widely-praised the Stones are, but I mean, it's just fine. Not much beyond that

I'm not huge on the rolling stones, this is ok. 2*. Highlight: you can't always get what you want I had Spotify on shuffle and missed half the album. Went back to the beginning and my opinion hasn't changed. Something about these guys doing honky tonk is meh. Good for them for branching out, but meh. Only the highlight stands out.

Has many incredible elements, but doesn't really connect with me.

I'm almost 100% sure that the reason the Rolling Stones are so big in the United States compared to other British bands from the time (save for maybe the Who) due to their insistent need to make themselves "countey," that way it appeals to all those with an affection for country rock. Now, admittedly, Rolling Stones are better at it than the average country rock group, but as someone who can't stand the genre most of the time, this isn't that much better. Mick Jagger's voice never is pleasing on the ears, and a lot of the tracks here can blend together, despite being pretty varying in sound. It also has lyrics here that feel questionable at best, such as "We all need someone to cream on," which just left me feeling awkward. Rolling Stones at thie point seems to have completely abandoned any sort of psychedelic influence by this point, which is a real shame because their best tracks came from a mixture of bluesy rock and that era's brand of psychedelics, see Paint It Black. It leads to this album being a really sobering experience compared to its contemporaries, and in an era of so much experimentation, this feels too safe to be all that special. I get why it has its fans, especially for those who grew up with it, but for a more modern set of eyes, I'd question choosing Rolling Stones over any of their British Invasion siblings, and this album is the perfect example as to why.

Gimme shelter is a 5 star effort, but the rest is just blech. Drop the choir from the closer.

I was never a Stones fan, and this album is really just a series of accomplished musicians covering some good blues music. I didn't realise how 'meh' this was until Spotify played a T-Rex song straight after that was lively and original, and kind of woke me up!

I don't enjoy the fake honky-tonk music. Lyrics are dumb and just unappealing vibes overall. Fav track: Gimme Shelter

I had high expectations of this album. They were not met. I've heard a handful of Rolling Stones songs in my life, and most of them I really liked. Some I even loved. None of the songs I'd heard are on this album. And after listening, I'd go as far as to say none of the Rolling Stones songs I particularly like are on here. I wouldn't say this was a bad album. But there was nothing that particularly caught my interest in a positive way. I think I prefer their softer stuff, because most of the softer songs I found enjoyable enough. However some songs, especially the rockier ones and that goddamn country song, really made me cringe. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" is probably the best song on here. I enjoyed it, and could see it growing on me. The chorus lyrics are simple but powerful. I think, after the classical intro, it was less experimental than I was hoping for, but it was still good. The best thing about this album was that it was short, and I'm not just saying that because I didn't like the album. It's the first album I've gotten so far that isn't overly long, and I really appreciated that. Favourite songs: You Got The Silver, You Can't Always Get What You Want

You know how I feel about the Stones!!! Overrated! There, I said it. I understand their appeal, but I just don't like to listen to more than their typical classic rock hits. This record starts out strong with, "Gimme Shelter", then goes to awful with "Love in Vain"... then the third track - after skipping within 30 seconds to it - had a frickin' fiddle! NOOOOO. "Live With me" - Ok. The Title Song is another mediocre song. Midnight Rambler is better. Ending with You Can't Always Get..." Done. I'll hear the popular cuts on the radio someday, but will not be playing these songs again.

I'm not really sure why this Rolling Stones album is in this list. It starts off as an okay album and degenerates into drivel. The album is coasting entirely off of the Rolling Stones name and I'm disappointed in the creator of the list for including it, especially when the Stones have so many albums and there are so many good albums that didn't make this list. If you're looking to introduce someone to the Rolling Stones, don't start with this album.

I never really got into the Stones, even after hearing a few of their "best" albums (including this one). I'm just not into the country/blues rock sound that much. It's decent, just not my vibe.

I didn't know there were so many blues heavy tracks on this album and that intrigued me. However, they are all literal filler tracks sandwiched between the two radio hits at each end of the album.

I like Gimme Shelter

I understand that the first and last songs ate incredibly well known and influential. However I shamefully admit that this album wasn’t what I thought it would be. I thought it was going to be hard classic rock but instead we got a mix of country and something else. Maybe I listened wrong or am way off, but I was disappointed!

Strong start with Gimme Shelter, but then went into some sort of Country hoedown that I didn't expect. Not a massive fan of Stones in general, but with wasn't for me.

Some very nice moments (Love in Vain, Midnight Rambler stand out), but very inconsistent. Country Honk in particular is unnecessary. Teetering between 2 drops of blood or 3, but rounding down, because there's enough material from the Stones already on here. 🩸🩸

Not my favorite RS album

This is the second of what will surely be too many records on this list from The Rolling Stones. This is a lot better than the first record given to me--"Exile on Mainstreet"--but I just can't get in to this band. There are a couple of well known songs on this that are fine, but also just a lot of blues bar band sounding wankery. No Thanks!

I hate the style of this album. I hate the piano sound, the southern-type fiddle playing, and the backing vocals. Would definitely be a 1.5 if I could give it that, and I don't quite think I can reasonably give it a 1 so I reluctantly am giving it a 2. It's probably the "worst" 2 I've given though.

Pretty wild how a band called the rolling stones has gathered quite a bit of moss when it comes to being an entertaining listen. I was never a stones fan but as I hear more of their albums I realize that was for the best. They have some good songs in their library, and You Can't Always Get What You Want is one of them, but the rest of these felt like songs I've heard a hundred times already on this list. What was it about these guys that people fell in love with? Maybe their gyrating hips at live shows? We may never know.

I don't really like the Stones. Gimmie Shelter is like all of the backing parts of a song just got fully fleshed out but no song in the middle of it. Country Honk makes me want to die. I am really not in the mood for these clowns this morning. You Can't Always Get What You Want is a great tune. and that is what keeps this album from being a 1 imho.

p167. 1969. 2 stars Got to be honest, I've never been a fan of the Stones - booze soaked, drug raddled white boy blues rip-offs with a fucking annoying fat lipped gobshite who thinks he is God's gift to women for a front man. The faux blues-country whine he uses on most of this album is really annoying, especially when everyone knows he comes from Dartford. On the plus side they know how to knock out a good tune (Gimme Shelter, Midnight Rambler, though You Can't Always Get What You Want outstays its welcome), and the band is tight - Keith Richards is on form, and Nicky Hopkins and Ian Stewart stand out on every track they are on. At the end of the day it comes over as the so-so efforts of an average white band in it for the chicks.

I didn't realise they were American. 2 good songs (we all know which they are) and some generic bluesy American stuff in the middle. Mostly underwhelming, was primed for more consistent quality.

"We all want someone we can cream on." Yeahhhh fuck the Rolling Stones and their misogyny. Songs lack structure, just 4-ish minute jams that don't go anywhere with dumb lyrics that repeat over and over. This is probably my favorite release from them because it's kind of short.

If you're like me and like the rolling stones but not their albums this one is not going to change that. One or 2 tracks are truly the best the stones have to offer but as for the rest, well meh is how they make me feel. 2 stars for 2 good tracks

I don't really like blues and that's probably why I don't like it all that much. This just wasn't my thing. I really like You Can't Always Get What You Want though, and Gimme Shelter is good if a little overrated.

Als Beatles fan hoor ik de Stones natuurlijk sowieso ruk te vinden (wat overigens niet het geval is!), maar dit album is toch wel enigszins bevestiging in die richting. Los van het openingsnummer (Gimme Shelter - fantastisch!), en het sluitstuk is hier echt niet veel meer te halen dan gepruttel en bluesy getokkel in de marge.

Heavy on the acoustic guitar throughout. First and last songs are classics but didn't really like anything in between.

Please let this album bleed, let it bleed out and die. This is my second full Rolling Stone’s album. I was expecting something different than the hot pile of shit that is Exile On Main Street, but I guess Jagger and the boys like to keep things consistent. Most of the time it seems like they aren’t even trying to write good songs or perform them well. I guess they were so famous at this point that they knew their audience would buy whatever sloppy collection of bullshit songs they released. Damn Rolling Stones, put down the needle and listen to the Beatles.

I like rock, I like blues, I like raw minimalism, and I hate the Rolling Stones. Gimme Shelter was shit, and every time something worthwhile is nearly achieved, they manage to ruin it in one way or another.
