Reviews (page 11 of 14)
In contention for one of the best album covers of all time, i adore that thing. Leagues below Exile On Main Street, i understand its something different entirely, but it feels less complex and composed. Maybe it'll grow on me but at this point just left me feeling it's aight. 6/10
First song is a classic. A few others are ok but country honk is utterly terrible.
Some good tunes
i don’t think i understand the massive appeal these guys had but never bad
Gimme Shelter is one of the best rock songs of all time. But I never could get into this band, okay?! I'M SORRY!!!
Yup, definitely a rolling stones album. Some great songs, and a bunch of filler. It was exactly as expected, a decent listen that I wouldn't request on my own.
Yeah it was another rolling stones album. I've come to have an expectation now as I listen to them as I think this the 3rd or 4th album I've listened to so far from this list. It's still a decent album with some great singles that start and end the album. Everything in between was okay. I'm just ready to roll on from the stones to something else.
Let It Bleed is one of the most overrated albums ever. Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want are the only listenable songs in my opinion
Some nice instrumentals, but other than that it's nothing special. Three stars.
let it go please
legal
This album feels a little bit like a bait and switch. Gimme Shelter goes so hard, then it’s just kind of ok for the majority of the album, and then it picks back up at the end with You Can’t Always Get What You Want. Maybe I’d appreciate it more with another listen. 3.5 Stars
When The Stones are being innovative (Gimme Shelter, You Can't Always Get ... ) I think they're great. When they're being a blues band in the country vein, they fall flat for me. This album seems to lean mostly on the blues and it doesn't quite grab me, see: Beggars Banquet)
First Stones album of the list. It was good but I found it a little lacking. It starts with Gimme Shelter which is a powerhouse of a song, but the b tracks are nothing special. Not bad, but they started to get a little one note after a while. Overall- good album, 3.5/5
I always find the rolling stones just fine. Never blows me away, but also never so offensive I turn it off
на любителя.
Yeah this is okay
Finde Rolling Stones irgendwie immer langweiliger als gedacht
Der dritte Song hat mich positiv überrascht. Ansonsten eher Durchschnitt.
Not my thing but not so "not-my-thing" I just dislike it, I think maybe the fact that I was sleepy didn't help its case in some songs where I thought they weren't doing much for me but generally? The songs were good, their use of blues rock and country doesn't feel nearly as clunky or weird as that one Paul McCartney record I heard some days ago. Let It Bleed is also less... animated than I expected, a lot more midtempo and sometimes that works to its benefit with songs that know how to use their length and sound well. Overall, its good
Gimme Shelter is brilliant. Then the next 4 tracks are just a waste of time - boring blues rock staples. The back end picks up with some slightly more interesting arrangements, and somewhat crescendos with You Can't Always Get What You Want. Though I weirdly don't like the angelic choir intro to that track, sounds corny to me. I've always felt like The Rolling Stones are one of the most overrated bands of all time, and this album doesn't really change that, though I much much prefer it to Beggars Banquet and Exile on Main St. 3.4/5
Blues-rockig. Hät nice Harmonie und Rhythme. Ich fühle d Stones trotzdäm nöd.
Both of the big hits on here are some of the best Stones songs, everything else is okay at best. Mid 3.
Definitely to the blues scale of the rock/blues scale. Almost country. Hm.
I didn't know "Gimme Shelter" was Rolling Stones. You can tell they were dabbling with a blues/country influence here with the acoustic guitar and piano style. Also their "Country Honk" sounds JUST like Old Crow Medicine Show. But then the album ends with "Can't always get what you want" so this is a weird combo.
Gimme Shelter is a great song, but I felt the rest was pretty average at best. Some songs were fine, others weak, but it felt pretty disjointed imo. You can't always get what you want is not a good song.
okay but not their best!
The opener and closer are the best songs the Stones have ever done. The rest is not that interesting. 3.5
Gimme Shelter is a stone cold classic. The rest of this is pretty good.
Opening with Gimme Shelter is a flex You Can’t Always Get What You Want, one of the all time great songs Everything else was totally fine!
Perhaps suffered from my having heard it so many times so it was missing the excitement factor
Besides the 3 songs that sound vaguely country, it's an okay album.
"Gimme Shelter" and "You Cant Always Get What You Want", arguably some of the Stones' most recognizable songs, bookend this album. Sadly, these songs feel totally out of place here, as the rest of the album heavily features more country and blues oriented songs that are significantly less memorable.
Better than the other stones album we've listened to, but still mediocre
I may be alone in having never liked Mick Jagger. I don't like his voice and never was a fan of his style. I wasn't excited to see this album come on. Some classics on here for sure, although I'd venture the classics have been overplayed so much they don't give me much pleasure anymore. Ultimately this gets to a "fine" in my book.
Good stuff, albeit not as much as Exile… or …Fingers.
Les Rolling Stones, toujours fascinés par les sons et influences américaines, avec leur petit mauvais genre. Ce n'est pas un groupe qui me rejoint, même si je ne dirais pas que c'est mauvais non plus.
Fine
A perfectly mid rock and roll album. A little folksy, a surprising amount of acoustic instruments, but much of the songwriting is a bid boring. Gimme Shelter is awesome.
Enjoyed a few songs and liked the different sounds on it, would be a 3.5 if possible
If it wasn't for Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want, I'd gladly give 2 for this. These two songs are stellar, but as with most Stones' records, they work better as part of a greatest hits compilation. As usual for them: two hits don't make a good LP.
I feel like I'm missing something. It may just be the lack of context, but outside of a handful of songs, this felt like nothing particularly groundbreaking. Not to say it's bad by any means, but I don't get why it's so lauded. I've never found Mick to be particularly captivating on records and the songwriting doesn't compensate for me. Good, not great. Rating: 7/10 Favorite Song: Monkey Man
A few well known singles on here that are genuinely good, but they sandwich an otherwise pretty mid collection of songs.
Gimme Shelter is one of the actually good Stones songs, the rest is pretty meh to me. I'll be nice because of the one song though I guess.
To be fair, if I had never heard anything besides gospel or folk music before, went to a Stones concert where a stranger gave me acid, I'd love this album too. Crazy to think boomers did that shit then just ruined everything. One has to assume Mick Jagger is to blame.
Songs i knew: 2 Songs i liked: meh I think I've always been more of a led/acdc fan than the stones so this album just all felt a bit watered down. I assume it was a high flyer and groundbreaking at the time but I don't think I'll come back for another listen. High 3.
Fine
i am so confused as to what i thought the rolling stones was before listening to this album
You Can’t Always Get What You Want, assuming what you want is other good songs on the album. And you also can’t convince me Jagger ever stepped foot in a honky tonk.
I’m so pissed off with myself that I literally just thought this cover was just a cake with a record next to it!!! I’ll tell you what I like: Gimmie shelter Let it bleed Midnight rambler Monkey man You can’t always get what you want Honestly I know this is one of the more loved ones but I’d rather listen to aftermath’s deep cuts than these ones. I like the stones but if they weren’t so popular/iconic I don’t think their reputation would be that good in retrospect, like they’d be liked but not loved I think 3/5
Generally fine, two crackers and then the rest is good as background listening
7/10
Was okay but not my type, norwegian wood
no thoughts. classic rock, not my thing
Overrated. Like some of the other 60s ones, some bangers, but lot of fluff
Honestly, Gimme Shelter rocks, last track too, the rest, I could take it or leave it. I think the guitar playing is fun on a lot of these tracks, but am not a huge fan of the rest of the band. Gimme Shelter at a 5, the rest at 2/5, Ima give this a 3.
3.5/5
Not a huge fan of the stones but full respect.. deserves to be here
3.5, gimme shelter is amazing.
I have to use a private session for spotify for any Rolling Stones album, because I am not a fan and there are quite a few Rolling Stones albums on this site. This album has a few classics, then the white guy take on blues that I find grating.
yeah, 3, i see why this was great, but honestly it kinda came and went for me
Pre-listening thoughts: there is a certain song on here that would be really great to play at a car dealership when you accidentally sign up for incredibly high payments on your car and you still can’t bear to listen to the song to this day because you feel salty that the dealership robbed you blind Post/during listening thoughts: I am shocked at how different the opener and closer are from the entire rest of the album. Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want are crazy good songs and then you get hit with honky tonk 60s country and blues??? It’s like okay but I definitely expected something a little better knowing some of the Stones’ other stuff. 5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: Gimme Shelter, You Can’t Always Get What You Want Least fav tracks: Love in Vain, Country Honk
I honestly haven't listened to the Rolling Stones before. They are a little old for my taste, but I did like Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want. Idk. Other than that, it didn't stand out as anything amazing to me.
This album feels a little bit like a bait and switch. Gimme Shelter goes so hard, then it’s just kind of ok for the majority of the album, and then it picks back up at the end with You Can’t Always Get What You Want. Maybe I’d appreciate it more with another listen. 3.5 Stars
Nothing wrong with it, just not very interesting.
Some really good blues rock but doesn’t quite reach that next level of GREAT until the very end.
The bookends of the album are great. I'm not going to pretend they're not. The sandwich in the middle is solid blues rock. Does it feel authentic? Not a bit. But I enjoyed it more than most Stones' albums.
3.5/5
Gimme Shelter is the Stones' best track by a country mile. You Can't Always Get What You Want is pretty decent. Most of the other tracks in between these bookends are fairly run of the mill.
Good start, at the end was just sorta waiting for the end. Country honk was fun though not great but fun. I will say however the closer on this album is beautiful it's what make me feel bad about giving it a three
I enjoy the sound of the Stones' music, though the lyrics of the first song Gimme Shelter being almost impossible to identify upon a first listen had me worried I wasn't going to be able to understand any of the words of the album and would only get this aspect on a second listen through while reading along with the songs. Gimme Shelter is a great song though now I know what it's saying. And fortunately, this turned out to be the only song where I had difficulty in hearing the words. Had actually only fully heard You Can't Always Get What You Want before, though had heard some of Midnight Rambler (the topic of the whole thing was not quite what I was expecting there, though reading about it was fascinating). Honestly, lyrically many of these songs didn't really connect with me. Live With Me for example. Learning Love In Vain is a cover does alter my perspective a bit (not in a bad way). Of the rest, I'd rate Monkey Man higher though I don't necessarily see myself often returning to it even if I were to recall liking the song. Honestly I only listened to it 15 mins ago and it's already escaped my mind. The first sentence of Let It Bleed for some reason repeatedly is reminding me of Kermit the Frog, though it doesn't actually sound like him but I just can't shake it with the 'lean on'. There are probably three songs that I would and it's the predictable Gimme Shelter, Midnight Rambler and You Can't Always Get What You Want, though I suppose time will tell with the rest. Overall, it didn't connect with me massively lyrically across the whole album, but liking the musical style makes much of it fall into the category of music I'd enjoy in the background but not actively scroll though my playlist to find. Maybe one day I'll revisit it and connect with it more, but this rating is for how I've felt about it when hearing it for the first time.
Have listened to it before, but couldn't remember much from it other than the big singles that bookend the record. Kinda understanding why I didn't remember them. Never was a huge Stones fan, and especially am not a fan of their slow blues tracks. Not that they were bad, just they don't do anything for me (and honestly, time is starting to get to them). I like when the Stones are more rock than blues, and this album is heavy on the blues. This record for me gets propped up on the strength of Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want.
3/5
Tell me how only two songs on the entire record compelled me. As Metric once sang, "Who would you rather be? The Beatles or the Rolling Stones?" Answer: The Beatles
I'm more Stones than Beatles, but honestly, neither of them ever really did very much for me. This was OK. Nothing super special.
5.5/10 Favorite Tracks: Gimme Shelter, You Can't Always Get What You Want Least Favorite Tracks: Country Honk, Live With Me, Let It Bleed
I like the Stones, but this was bleh.
really strong opening and closing tracks, a little stagnant in between, also not really my type of music
The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed I had a lot of expectations from this considering that it's one of their best albums. I was yet disappointed to hear that it had that 60's "country-style" rock. There are some good songs on here though, and it is consistently good most of the time, but I did expect a lot more from this. But even with that being said, this is good! 1.- Gimme Shelter = 9/10 2.- Love in Vain = 6/10 3.- Country Honk = 6/10 4.- Live with Me = 7/10 5.- Let It Bleed = 7/10 6.- Midnight Rambler = 8/10 7.- You Got the Silver = 7/10 8.- Monkey Man = 7/10 9.- You Can't Always Get What You Want = 9/10 FINAL SCORE: 7.3/10
A couple interesting songs and sounds
Had some good songs
The Stones are my favorite the closer they get to the Kinks. The quirky, catchy stuff. I like this album more than Sticky Fingers. I really can't wrap my head around how a record like Gimme Shelter can be so under developed. They have similar tracks where they're just such a good hook but the arrangement and overall song writing falls short. The Stones haven't ever done much for me.
Started great, 'Gimme Shelter' is just good, but then the next few songs don't match the energy, although they're not unlikeable. I like 'Live With Me' It's much more of a bluesy album than I expected, but it is the late 60s. 'Midnight Rambler' was slightly King Gizz-y Honestly, a pleasant album, but aside form the intial song nothing really blew me away.
I don’t love or revere The Stones. Great for dancing, of course. 3-4 good tunes here. I’m not sure what the remaster is accomplishing, as the voice is lost to the instruments. But You Can’t Always Get What You Want is true 5/5 gold; see The Big Chill. 3/5 overall.
I dont like mick jagger's voice
Classic album heard most of the songs on here. The early? version of honky Tonk women leaves a lot to be desired, easy low point for me. The title track, Gimmie Shelter, and You Can’t Always Get What You Want are the shining stars of the album, supported by groovy tracks such as midnight rambler and Monkey Man. One of the Stones better albums for sure. Best Track: Gimmie Shelter
This one is significantly better than the last Stones album on here. Gimme Shelter is a classic, and the album has a blues influence throughout that works well for the most part, although a couple of the songs don't need to be as long as they are.
A little more honky tonk than I expected (and wanted). Some solid songs.
i like this record and always have but oh my god this is the dumbest fucking artist streak ive ever had. a lotta white balls need 2 be chopped off. anyway, this is the only studio rolling stones record where my perception of it hasnt dropped off the face of the earth at some point, and i set out on this listen to figure out why. most likely perhaps is the subtle difference in genre priorities across the stone's Classic period...theyre all rootsy rock music, but of slightly different flavors, and to my ears the biggest contributing sub-flavor here is country. the result is a stones record that is both slightly funnier and slightly more emotive in turn from that which surrounds it, the least capital r capital s Rock Star of their most famous records. i still hate mick jagger lol but this more subdued environment is good for him...he's still often jaggering it up with gross self-parodic white boy blues inflections but for whatever reason ive always found this to be the most likeable studio environment for this. the real problem if i have one is that i find the stones as a whole to be quite boring and stiff performers...but even that doesnt stop them from a rare fully successful Rock Out with gimmie shelter, where the layers and layers of sound build up into a genuine intensity the individual parts couldn't reach alone. and even beyond that track, the songwriting works for me on this record way way more than not, comfy and even colorful. on the whole if i Have to listen to the rolling stones id reach for the suprisingly great classic live album ya-yas, but this is a good pick too. not a fan of this band at all clearly lol but im glad theyre not a total wash for me
The big hits on this album are very familiar to me and indubitably work. The in between tracks are a little muddier, grounded in that era-appropriate hard man style of lyrics and vocals that feels so offputting when served without the dramatic flights of fancy found in the opening and closing tracks.
a fun folk/rock album and has the classic you can’t always get what you want. not very much to my taste but still enjoyable.
Two great songs, Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want, and a lot of filler between the two.
9/12/24 It was an okay album. It didn't set the world alight.
Some thrillers. Some fillers.
el classico 👌
6/10 - idk how I feel about the lyric "we all need someone we can cream on." Some of the songs were fine. Jackson likes 2 songs on this album but I still do not get all of the hype. Better than the other rolling stones album.
More Rolling Stones. More mid
The stones... you get three stars for Gimme Shelter and that's it.
Never been a big fan, but not a complete waste of time.
I'm not a massive Stones fan but Gimme Shelter is one of the greatest songs of all time so that's taken this too to an easy three if not a four
Lots of blues influence and kinda carried by two songs… monkey man is fun though. I don’t think the stones are a great album band honestly
There are strong influences of classic blues as well as bluegrass that make the album an interesting listen. While it is an interesting blend of genres, the group ultimately fails to move ahead, in a more creative and unique direction. It feels that the artists were content to re-hash traditional, american sounds and blend them into a more accessible package. 7.2/10
Death, taxes, the cast majority of The Rolling Stones being 2.5.
Not the hugest fan of the Stones - Gimme Shelter is a 4 and there are a couple more songs I like, but overall a 3 taking into account the familiarity effect, I think.
First time I’ve ever listened to this album all the way through, although many of the songs are familiar (they’ve been around so long, their material permeates western musical culture). As a collection it’s quite decent but perhaps not an outright classic
3.5
it's alright, would be better if they cut it down to 2 songs
good album but i thought id actually enjoy more songs, i was only really enjoying like 3 songs so i was a bit disappointed
I mean, it's the Stones. Ok album, but Mick. Also, Trump's usage of You Can't Always Can't What Your Want immediately downgrades the song.
Gewoon relaxed
Gimme Shelter 💪
Merry Clayton on gimme shelter u will always be famous
Gimme Shelter is a solid song but the rest range from ok to meh.
Schönes Album.
I was never a great Rolling Stones fan. In my age group there was Sones v Beatles debate and I came firmly down in the Beatles camp. Whilst there were Stones tracks which I really liked I never bought any of their music apart from a greatest hits CD. That is until recently when I have become a music collector again and deciding that in addition to my all time favourite albums I also need to include classic albums not necessarily to my taste. So it was only in the last month that I obtained this very album for it to become my first purely Stones album I have ever owned. This was not by choice. Rather than Qobuz began to offer HiRes DSD downloads for the first time. The catalogue they were offering was very limited but Let It Bleed was included and appeared to be the best choice. So I have listened to this album quite a bit even before it appeared on this list. The DSD version is something to behold and sounds out of this world. But I don’t want that to cloud my judgement as any old bit of Muzak would sound fantastic given the DSD treatment. For my tastes 50% of the album is good. Gimme Shelter and YCAGWYW speak for themselves and are classic tracks. The title track and Monkey Man are also good standouts. The rest are OK and instantly recognisable has Stones tracks but for the reasons which I must have formulated when I went for The Beatles all those years ago I can take or leave. 3/5 13/11/24
propped up heavily by 2 outstanding tracks
Torn between a 2 or 3. I would say a low 3 ranking probably. "You can't always get what you want" is a real banger.
My second Stones album on this journey and a second example of them opening with a magnificent single ('Paint it Black' on Aftermath), surrounded with some forgettable noodling around. 'Gimme Shelter' and 'Can't Always' carry this record.
Ok album. Pleasant to listen to but nothing major for my own tastes. Definitely would recommend to anyone who likes classic rock.
I’ve spent many years trying to get into The Rolling Stones. I knew many of their hits, and liked them. Suddenly a handful of years ago, I sat down and listened to this album. When I did, and Gimme Shelter started, it clicked. That song is an absolute masterpiece, and I began to appreciate the band more. There are, though, a little too many honky tonk songs on this album for my taste. This album is one of my favourites by the band though, but Sticky Fingers is the one that hits it home
I think this is about Sticky Fingers level.
i know, i know. it’s the stones! and it’s great! it’s just a little too honky took
For a Rolling Stones album, not bad! I'm not a huge fan of them, but "You Can't Always Get What You Want" always goes hard. I wish the mixing was better.
Two great singles and then some other songs in between them
It’s fine, it’s listenable. It’s alright.
The first and last tracks are immense the filling in between is a bit meh. I’m discovering I am definitely a greatest hits girl when it comes to the Stones
Good but not my cup of tea. Way more bluegrass and country notes than I thought it would. I understand why Gimmie Shelter and Can’t Always Get What You Want are the ones most played, they are the best on this album.
Ok
I was expecting rock and roll and I found something else... I mean, it's not bad, but a bit of a disappointment
esse álbum + uma estradinha num sábado de manhã = sucesso total
nunca tinha escutado um album todo do rolling stones antes. não foi ruim. mas também não foi bom.
The opener and closer are definitely 2 great songs and I really enjoy both, but it's all the songs in between that surprised me. Are the Rolling Stones really a honky tonk band? Put Charlie Starr or James Ford on vocals and I would have enjoyed this a lot more. Not a big fan of the Stones or Mick's singing, but I dig the honky tonk sound and thought this album was pretty good. Isn't Country Honk the same as Honky Tonk woman? Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want are the 2 songs that make this album and truly are great tunes. Saw a story about Vietnam and I believe Gimme Shelter was one of the most popular songs by enlisted men during the time. Makes sense and the song means a little more whenever I hear. Drop acid, not bombs! I would actually suggest mushrooms instead. 3.5
3.5 So, if there’s one thing that this list has taught me, it’s that The Rolling Stones are actually more of a honky tonk country/blues band with the occasional rock composition scattered here and there - and it’s funny, you would have no idea that’s the case if you stuck to the group’s hits. That said, I can definitely see why nobody remembers the blues numbers - they’re not bad by any means, but they definitely pale in comparison to songs like Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Alway Get What You Want, the more conventional rock tracks here and far and away the album’s best moments. I mean, in fairness, it’s hard for most songs to hold a candle to Gimme Shelter, which is not only the best song The Rolling Stones ever put out but also one of best classic rock tracks ever written. I don’t think there’s any explanation or convincing necessary as to the song’s greatness, but I will say, Merry Clayton’s vocals on the track really escalate it to a point of perfection. If you pay close attention, her voice cracks on the third delivery of “murder”, and you can hear Mick Jagger give a “woo!” following it in the background - it’s a cool moment and something I listen for every time I hear the song now. Anyway, it’s an all-time great song, but it immediately sets a very high bar for the rest of the album that it never quite reaches again. YCAGWYW comes the closest, but it’s still not quite the same level (Fun fact: The London Bach Choir, featured on the track, distanced themselves from it afterwards due to perceived drug references and the album’s title.) Now having a more extensive knowledge of The Rolling Stones’ discography, I find it interesting that the group has three albums in a row (Beggars Banquet, this one, and Sticky Fingers) that all seem to consist of the same general eight country/blues numbers and then like two rock megahits that would go on to define them. I respect the consistency, and while I would definitely say I’ve enjoyed listening to all three, I also feel like I’ve walked away each time totally forgetting about all bluesy stuff and left with an appreciation of the same songs I’ve already known by the guys for years now. I mean, I liked Let It Bleed, Midnight Rambler, and Country Honk here, but I’m just not sure they’re songs that are going to stick with me - especially being that Country Honk exists in a superior form with Honky Tonk Women. Now that we’re five albums in with these guys, I think I’ve determined that, while I enjoy the group and their output, they just don’t have any one album that I would consider a great. They’re definitely all re-listenable, but I’m just not sure these guys have a masterpiece to their name.
didn't find this one too interesting, fav songs are intro and outro. 2.5
I want to give it more than 3 stars, but I just feel like The Rolling Stones have a higher bar than that. The album is bookended with 2 of my favorite Stones’ tunes in Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want and I like the “countrified” version of Honky Tonk Woman. Otherwise, I hope you love so-so blues. Midnight Rambler is a great name for a tune that rambles on for 7 unnecessary minutes. There are some decent songs here, but beyond the hits, it’s very average.
An average Rolling Stones sandwich between two all time classic tracks
Two gospel tinged rock classics sandwich some pretty forgettable country inspired songs. The Rolling Stones have some stone cold bangers across their career, interspersed with bone fide filler.
Not bad but not their best.
Average at best, can’t see myself giving this any higher… ever
you can't always get ...
3.5
meh, but not bad
Definitely more cogent than Beggars Banquet. Pretty tight, which the Stones often aren't. "Monkey Man" is one of my favorite deep cuts. But this album is downright nasty, in places. Never read the lyrics to "Let It Bleed" or "Midnight Rambler," it's all fairly grim, which I suppose reflects the kids' mood at the time. I think the Stones lack creativity in a way. They copy their influences a little too much in this period. They do a passable job of bringing bluegrass and country elements into the music, and of course they were the vanguard UK Blues Poseurs®. But they are best when following their own muse, like on "Can't Always Get What You Want" or the aforementioned "Monkey Man." It's an essential album, no question. I don't know if it's great, though. So much time has passed since this came out, it's almost impossible to judge it on its own merits. For sure one of the top 100 Stones records.
Two big songs with a whole lot of generic blues rock sandwiched in between. That's the Stones' way.
Love the blues influence, some songs drag on to long and get a bit samey. End of the album bored me
last track is iconic the rest of it sadly not that interesting
Honestly don't remember this, after having just listened to it. 2.5/5
A classic rock album. Didn’t really stand out to me besides the two singles which are fantastic
Another album with a single great song on it, Save yourself some time and just listen to "You can't always get what you want". Also whoever let the rolling stones call their blues album "Let it Bleed" should be shot
Does not age.
Eh. Gimmie Shelter, Midnight Rambler, and Monkey Man were my favorites; everything else was pretty humdrum. Cool harmonica lines throughout though. 3/5
Uninspiring rock and roll.
Not my favourite Stones album by a stretch... Beggars Banquet and Sticky Fingers are well clear. Gimme Shelter and You can't always get... Are obvious standouts - two of the band's best songs which certainly raise the project as a whole... Country stuff doesn't convince me really, never got into blue and lonesome more recently... Maybe that's an age or patience thing. For those two songs - 3.37.
The bookend songs are very strong, but I can't say the same for everything inbetween. A decent album, but feels like it could do more.
Maybe it's because I've been conditioned by Martin Scorsese to associate Gimme Shelter with some of my favorite movies but I *love* that song. I *love* this recording of that song. This is one of the very few songs from the era that I like which I don't prefer some cover that had slicker production or a harder style performance. The Hellacopters made a valiant effort but the original stands tall. So this album starts off strong, for sure. I've frequently said that The Rolling Stones have recorded a near perfect LP of songs that I absolutely adore. It just took them a few decades and several albums to do it. This is the first time I've listened a Stones album top to bottom and... I haven't really changed my stance. It's not that the rest of the songs on this album are bad. They're certainly not. But they're also not really that memorable either. I found the rest of the album a bit boring, TBH. Now, some of the songs do have that swagger about them that I most associate with the band. There is definitely a dick swinging confidence to the groove of several of the tunes that I'm not sure really existed in the mid to late 60s when all the other bands were wearing tie dye and singing about hippy bullshit. This was the band that stepped in with tight pants and borrowed your girlfriend for the night. Like so many bands and albums from before my time, I'm sure I would've been a fan had I been of a certain age when this was released. This band especially, I think would've been more or less my fav if I'd been a teen in the late 60s. But I was a teen in the 90s and so it just doesn't stick very well for me.
Quite enjoyed this one, some familiar favourites on the album and a few weaker tracks but you can always get what you want!
I don’t know that I have ever listened to an entire Stones album. It was okay. I appreciated it more reading others’ comments—definitely a progression to their music.
I skipped almost every other song.
Didn’t like it at first but it’s pretty decent on a couple relistens Like gimme shelter and you can’t get what you want
The first song on this album is one that I have known my entire life but have never been able to name the title or the artist. I am digging both the sound and the album cover.
Hard carried by a couple songs, pretty much forgettable otherwise
I always find the Stones albums very variable. A real inconsistency in songs backed up by some of the greatest of all time. This is no exception. A curious band.
Again, it's THE Stones. Yet I don't get all the hype. They have their moments. 3.5/5.
Good.
Lidt country agtigt
Honestly, not that impressed. It sounds good, but it's carried pretty heavily by Gimme Shelter, and You Can't Always Get What You Want closes it out, and that's really all that's notable about it. Other than those two songs, though, the rest of the album feels really forgettable.
To me, this is the platonic ideal of a Rolling Stones album. It has a couple bangers, some forgettable b-sides that are pretty non-confrontational, and it is a tight 42 minutes.
It's the Stones. There are some fine ideas, a couple of good singles, but overall lackluster execution.
On being questioned if I prefer The Stones or The Beatles, I always want to say Stones. They wrote some of the most iconic songs of the sixties, and I would say they were more daring than their british counter part. However, that's due to their hits — Gimme Shelter, Satisfaction, Sympathy for the Devil and Paint it Black. Beyon that, they are just a meh bluesy rock band. I just wish that they put as much effort into every single song, as they did in their singles.
I agree with the other users here. The first and last tracks are spectacular, but the middle part has mixed quality with highs and lows. I like that the album isn't excessively long. 3.5
Got close to giving this a four but the songs I liked didn't push it over the edge. "Gimme Shelter" is a top shelf song and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" is up there too.
Some great tracks on here but also a lot of filler
Not a Stones fan. You can't always get what you want is the best song and even that is just barely tolerable. Don't care for or about this album.
Classic
The Stones are in the running for most frequent artist on this 1001 journey, and every time I get surprised by the variety on each album. It's not often the different styles are better than what made the radio, but I respect what they are doing. I'll keep to the hits for my playlists, but their body of work over such a long time is getting more and more impressive. Favorite track "Gimme Shelter" 3/5
#274. Following the trend of all the other Stones albums I've listened to for this. A few truly great songs, accompanied by some truly forgettable filler. 3/5: acceptable.
Strong three
It's pretty whatever outside of the opener and closer which are both incredible, bringing the rating up here. Monkey Man is also cool. The rest are kinda weird honky tonk british, I think I'm just not a huge fan of the stones in general. Still a good album though
3.5 - A couple of standout hits surrounded by filler, as usual from one of the best "greatest hits" bands ever
First and last tracks are classics. Rest is middling...
whatever . I don’t know any stones songs that well and this didn’t push me to learn more
Opening and Closing Tracks carried the album. Let It Happen and Monkey Man were decent the rest of the tracks it didn't really care for. Not bad though, I'll definitely be coming back to Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want. Best - Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want Worse - Country Honk and Love In Vain 3.25/5
Never a huge fan of the Stones but I felt a lot of nostalgia listening to this album. Good for my classic rock camping playlist.
Really solid record, if these young men keep this up they'll go places
Gimme Shelter slaps - probably my favourite Stones track. I'm less of a fan of all the blues-y stuff in the middle, but the album finishes strong with You Can't Always Get What You Want.
мех, 3?
If anyone wants to hear how much The Rolling Stones were “influenced” by American soul and blues, they can give this album a listen. That being said, it’s a great album. From the beginning wails heard from Merry Clayton in Gimmie Shelter to the end harmony of the childrens choir in You Can’t Always Get What You Want - it’s a great ride. Classic Rolling Stones.
Não me incomodaria ouvir elas no ambiente. Mas não escutaria elas em privado.
Has some real bangers but drags in the middle
Too country for me at times
title track makes me uncomfortable
it’s okay never been a stones guy
A 1 musica é sensacional e a última tbem é muito interessante, mas no meio do álbum fica um country que não me agradou.
I knew the classics Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want. They still sound as good as they ever have. The more I listen to these old albums, the more I'm noticing how heavily influenced they are by blues. Personally I like the faster songs with less crooning and weeping. I was pleasantly surprised by Live With Me and You Got The Silver. Unexpectedly romantic songs from a band I associate with just loud and in your face rock.
Gimme shelter is such a great song- it really sets high standard for the album. I generally enjoyed it but wish all would have been to the same caliber but I guess You can’t always get what you want.
The middle section is not as bad as everyone says. Monkey Man is pretty awesome instrumentally. Closer goes hard of course, but I don’t particularly care for the opener.
Fun yet unremarkable. Gimmie Shelter was good tho
Gimme Shelter...
Book-ended by two solid songs, one of which is one of their best. The rest of the album is pretty mediocre IMO, but I really don't like country or gospel that was influencing this album.
Let It Bleed is yet another let down of an album from a legendary band. I’ve heard a lot about The Rolling Stones and was down to listen to an album of them. However, I really don’t like their style. I prefer the synths and cadence of an Electric Ladyland or the drippiness of In The Court Of The Crimson King. If someone made a bland rock album for people to enjoy, I unfortunately would think of this. That being said, I’m admittedly being a bit harsh. It wasn’t bad; I would only call one song on this album mid-range (Monkey Man was REALLY unorthodox). I like Gimme Shelter and Midnight Rambler for their uniqueness and guitars. Yeah so, a letdown for sure, but not bad. All in all, Let It Bleed is an okay album. Best Song: Midnight Rambler Worst Song: Monkey Man
First & final tracks were the best imo. Could leave the rest, but wasn’t awful to listen to.
The Stones can be hit or miss for me and I never got the hype. The notion that they could be as good as The Beatles is ludicrous. I liked this album alright, but for a lot of it, there was something off about it. The first and last songs are 5 star, though.
I remember seeing this album in a value village for only a dollar and for whatever reason I didn’t buy it. I’ve always regretted not grabbing it when I had the chance (and it was in good condition too!) I’d have it in my collection at this moment if it I had just bought it that fateful day. The Rolling Stones always had a knack for sounding smooth and cool and I think Let It Bleed showcases that suave coolness that they had on display so easily in those days. Not my favourite but always had a lot of respect for it!
I like The Rolling Stones but had never listened to an entire album by them. I thought this one was okay. I only knew the last song, which was my favorite. Overall, the album left something to be desired. Hope other albums will be more enjoyable. Standouts: Gimme Shelter, Love In Vain, and You Can’t Always Get What You Want.
Staggering number of reviews here saying 'Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want = 5 stars!' without considering the mid-quality insipid whiteboyblues between those two admittedly great tracks. They even have to resort to covering one of their own tracks, for fuck's sake! The Rolling Stones are the second most over-hyped band on the planet. The only reason they are so highly regarded is down to first-mover advantage.
A fine classic rock album. It's essentially Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want with some filler songs in between. Still, not a bad time. 2.5/5 -> 3/5.
Aprobado por el primer y último tema.
As with most Rolling Stones albums: there are a handful of all-time great rock songs, and then a lot of blues-adjacent meandering. 'Let It Bleed' justifies its existence to me by having "Gimme Shelter" on it; I'll begrudgingly admit that it's one of my favorite rock songs ever. It always gives me chills. 'Let It Bleed' is a more consistent listen than, say, 'Beggars Banquet', but it's no 'Exile' (which I hope to get more with each passing Rolling Stones album.) Highlights: Gimme Shelter, Country Honk, Midnight Rambler, You Got The Silver
Not bad need a few more listens to feel it
Decent album. Really enjoyed gimme shelter, however the rest was mediocre.
Reiterating that the Stones are a singles band. Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want are great. The rest is middling.
On my 6th Rolling Stones album of this challenge, I'm running out of things to say about them. My constant complaint is that they produce very strong singles on mediocre albums. 'Let It Bleed' is a bit better in that respect. 'Gimme Shelter', 'Let It Bleed', and 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' are all fantastic. The rest is ok, if a bit forgettable. Despite that, I enjoyed this album more most of their others. They demonstrate a lot of skill and the album has some character. I can't really see this album being more significant any of the others though and there's not enough to keep it in regular rotation for me personally, except maybe those standout songs.
Rolling Stones are tough to listen to by the album. I’ve given them too many chances at this stage and think I’ll only do the singles going forward.
Good but uneventful
Alright like.
the stones are okay but they dont do much for me, this album felt like background music but with more character. monkey man.
The album starts off on a really high note with Gimme Shelter which is an all timer for me. Unfortunately, it quickly loses most of its momentum and never really builds it back until You Can't Always Get What You Want on the very last track. I sincerely hated the country songs and a lot of their bluesy ones seem inauthentic and boring. The Stones are legendary, but I’m just not really a huge fan of most of their work. 3.4 stars leaning heavily on their two massive hits.
Not bad, but the only 2 amazing songs were “Gimme Shelter” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” - the rest were ok but weren’t super interesting.
Some tracks were enjoyable but I kinda expected more from such a notoriously prestigous band.
nowhere near unlistenable, but not something i feel like is going to end up on any of my playlists
Rolling Stomes - nicht so schlecht, aber Fan werde ich nicht mehr.
..(.
It's a good blues sound, I do like the harmonica on it. I don't super dig the country blues style but I do like several tracks. The vibraphone on Monkey Man is great. The ending being You Can't Always Get What You Want is good. It is trying to be a big climatic song to end the album and I think it achieves it. I did not like the choir at the beginning of the track though. Overall, blues and gospel sound good just not really my thing
Hard to argue that it's 2 classics either end of a load of middle of the road stones stuff
Yep, two absolute classics bookending a load of farting about. I do love Charlie Watts' laid back drumming though. A jazz man in the wrong band
First song is good and the rest are mid
This was my first time listening to this album all the way through from start to finish. It's a little twangy, but decent!
The bookends of this album are excellent: Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What you Want. And while bluesy-rock is not my favorite, the album is at least coherent and cohesive. If I had half ratings I’d give this 3.5.
I wish the Rolling Stones were good.
Strong production values and a focused sound. Highlights: "Gimme Shelter" (sets a great intense and eerie vibe as the opening track), "Live with Me" (dat bass, blues rocker, sax solo), "You Can't Always Get What You Want" (an epic closer, so grand and over-the-top) Notable: "Country Honk" (country version of "Honky Tonk Women", not as good as hit version)
Speaking words of wisdom…let it bleed. The bookend hits on this one are timeless, but some of the tracks in the middle seemed a little repetitive for me this time around. Interesting to see that the fiddle on Country Honk was provided by Byron Berline, a well known player in the Texas style fiddle scene, who would later find success as part of the Flying Burrito Brothers. You can’t always get what you want on a Stones album, but at least you do get some solid rock n roll.
I guess I’m just never going to understand the level of praise some people have for this band. Truly tried to get into this, but man what a jarring stop at TRACK TWO. I just think the vast majority of what The Rolling Stones did was way more average than people give them credit for.
Старенький рок-н-ролл. Нет, мне нравится больше битлов, хотя их и сравнивают постоянно. Но в целом сказать нечего
"You can't always get what you want" and "Midnight Rambler" are masterpieces. "Gimme Shelter" and the title track are good. That said, the album is quite uneven. The blues covers/adaptations are mostly bad. 3.3 stars rounded down I suppose.
1. "Gimme Shelter" 9/10 2. "Love in Vain" 6/10 3. "Country Honk" 7/10 4. "Live with Me" 5. "Let It Bleed" 6.9/10 6. "Midnight Rambler" 7.5/10 7. "You Got the Silver" 8. "Monkey Man" 9. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" 8/10
I'm not a diehard Stones fan, so it's just "fine" for me. Favorite tracks: - Gimme Shelter - You Can't Always Get What You Want
Solid 3.5
Live With Me - nasty sax Let it Bleed - great song, what a classic should sound like You Got Silver - best song on the album Monkey Man - interesting production YCAGWYW - great Overall, it's not really my style of rock/music. An album I would put on in the background while doing something, but no song that really makes me stop and pay attention. Undeniably a classic with good reason, but I had to power through
I’d never listened to an entire Stones album until now. It had much more of a rootsy blues/honkey tonk vibe than I was expecting. I listened in the car and there were a few songs where they made some fun choices about which speaker instruments would come from. For Country Honk, I wonder if they took a note from the Beatles’ “Revolution”, by including a scaled back acoustic version on the album, but releasing a more rock version for the single. The singles from this album are enduring classics, but the rest would take me some listens before they stood out in my mind. 3.5
It was fine. I don't hear any reason to listen to it again, though. I can understand how people that heard this when it came out would be fans.
Hard to rate this one appropriately. It starts and ends with all time classics, but the middle of the album doesn't keep pace.
While I think Gimme Shelter is an all timer, the rest of the album was just okay for me.
Couple BANGERS but lot of fluff, pretty much just British honk tonk
Mid, el único banger es You can't always get what you want
Anders als man die rolling stones kennt. Oldie aber doch iwie goldie (Mundharmonika!)
This is the first (or second?) full Rolling Stones album I’ve listened to. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I’ve realized I’m not really a huge Stones fan. They’re good, but there’s not many songs here I’d like to revisit. Also, I don’t think I love Gimme Shelter as much as most others. 7.5/10 Top 3: 1. You Can’t Always Get What You Want 2. Love In Vain 3. Gimme Shelter
Easily the best Rolling Stones record so far, out of the five that I've gotten through this list. The bar is not very high, though. This group has a chunk of REALLY GOOD songs, but their larger discography hides quite a lot of mediocrity. Let it Bleed is evidence of that. It starts out with a banger and ends with one of the Rolling Stones' best songs ever, but everything else is kinda meh. There are maybe one or two more strong tracks in there (my personal pick was Live With Me), but all in all it's very middle of the road.
Let It Bleed starts and ends strongly but I dunno, fizzles in the middle. Still an enjoyable experience, there are just one to many meh songs to make this truly memorable.
Fantastisch eerste en laatste nummer, daarna zakt ie een beetje in, dus ik ga streng zijn.
Carried by a fantastic first song and last song. Great songs and Stones classics. Can't say the same with the rest of the album
opening track, 30 mins of filler, closing track
Still not super into Rolling Stones. Like the hits at the beginning and the end, but not all that into what happens in the middle.
A lot of piano in these classic rock songs.
Back to back Stones! This has higher highs and lower lows than "Sticky Fingers". Everyone knows what the highs are here, Jesus Christ, "Gimme Shelter" is such a good song. Weird that this album opens with a black woman singing about rape and the "Sticky Fingers" opening lyric is about black women being raped. Anyway, I want this album to be more consistent, but you can't always get what you want. Time to rewatch "40 Feet From Stardom".
The music isn't bad, but I'm not a fan of mick jaggers vocals.
Got bored
Expected Lorenzo Rating: 4
Gimme shelter is a massive banger and « you can’t always get what you want » to a lesser extent but the whole album isn’t that good
The Rolling Stones are like the British Museum. A national treasure, but everything is stolen. I despise the ultra establishment figure Jagger has become, and the fact he sings like a goat. Richards is famous for not being dead. But who doesn't love Charlie Watts?
I've never gotten the Stones, but, I absolute rate some of their tunes.
good: instrumentals, lyrics, vibe bad: not quite my taste, the high points are very high but the rest just feels meh. probably won’t come back to the whole album fav song: gimme shelter least fav song: love in vain 7/10 gimme shelter is a masterpiece
If not for the couple of classics this would be a two.
As quite a few of the other reviews pointed out, the album has two songs that have stood the test of time and are still interesting today. All the other songs just blend into the general late 60s sound which is not bad per se – I'm a big fan of the period – but this won't be my go-to album for that. Honorary mention to You Got The Silver – sounds pretty Dylan-inspired (especially the first half of the song) which is a combination that works rather well.
Gimme Shelter is great, and then its just British Honky Tonk music you'd only listen to on the basis its by The Rolling Stones
They kick this one off with one of their best songs, and a perfect opener - the fade in, uneasy tremelo as the signature guitar part emerges conjuring a storm and the vocals jump in begging for relief. Like most of their stuff in this period, the rest album finds them doing Southern-face: it's all drawling vocals, slack slide guitar riffs, harmonica trills, honky tonk pianos, and a lot of choogle. This material is loose and fun and fine as it goes, but not as good as the some of the other stuff they put out in this golden era of Rolling Stones Americana. You could condense the best of this, Exile, Goats Head Soup, Sticky Fingers, and Beggars Banquet down into three perfect 8-song albums that'd all be five-stars. It's their best era but still pretty bloated, this album especially. The middle three minutes of Midnight Rambler is a rave up that goes nowhere, fades out, then comes back for no good reason - like they're trying to do a 60s Grateful Dead/Allman Brothers thing, but don't really get how to improvise because Mick Jagger can't not sing for a more than 50 seconds.
Gimme Shelter is one of my favorite songs by anyone. Merry Clayton's voice crack is maybe my favorite music moment ever. I love that cinematic opening to Monkey Man and the guitar lick is perfect. Also, "I'm a cold Italian pizza," is one of my favorite lyrics. The rest of the album has good moments to be sure, but there are a few tracks that have always irked me. The biggest offender is Midnight Rambler, which is way too long. And I don't love You Can't Always Get What You Want, but that seems to be just me.
Je ne suis pas fan, je laisse s'écouler les chansons mais seules 1 ou 2 m'accrochent un peu, sans pour autant que je les écoute de nouveau.
Outside of whatever Stones songs I happened to hear im my life, I'd never really paid attention to them. The couple of hits I like had always been enough for me. I know three of these here, but in newer versions? Quite cool how rough it's produced at times, like buskers on the street. But. Eh. Meh. Alright. Hoo! Ha! Three.
Classic but old
Great opener and closer, middle good but just enjoy my blues rock from other bands
A lot of this sounded really dated to me compared to the Rolling Stones contemporaries like the Beatles. It really picked up in the back end of the album though. I really enjoyed the last few songs but I think I went in with too high expectations.
Not very cohesive imo, also just felt like stealing a lot of style from a number of other groups. Some of it was very catchy though
Highlights: Gimme Shelter, Let It Bleed, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Midnight Rambler. In a nutshell: "it's just a shot away" Blues heavy (a genre the band loves). Powerful riffs. The swagger of Jagger. And the band is just getting started... Overall: 6/10
This album from 1969 is a typical Rolling Stones album 7 average to good songs and 2 super hits (Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want).
Starts with gimmie shelter end with you can’t always get what you want. In between slower blues. Definitely a better stones album
not my cup of tea
I've never really connected with most of the Stones' work. Their sound defined a lot of bands to follow, and they definitely have some great hits. I think it boils down to this: The Stones listened to early southern blues and rock and made more of it. The Beatles listened to the same thing and made the next thing.
Let It Bleed presents a diverse range of influences with each track delving into its own genre. While two outstanding songs shine, the album as a whole falls short of achieving consistent brilliance. It's regarded as one of their important works, yet it doesn't quite reach the heights of Exile on Main Street. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 2 STAND OUT TRACK - Gimme Shelter
Didn’t get into this as much as other stones albums on this list
1/12/24. This is the essential Rolling Stones album for me, or at least the easiest to listen from front and back.
I really wanted to hang Let It Bleed on my wall, because the cover art matched my room’s aesthetic and because, most importantly, Gimme Shelter is my favorite song of all time. I listen to Gimme Shelter when I’m feeling victorious, powerful, angry, and defeated—it perfectly encapsulates whatever emotion feels the most tangible at any moment. However, the album is pretty underwhelming, so Let It Bleed will sadly not be among my wall of greats.
B Gimmie Shelter 5 Love In Vain 3 Country Honk 3 Live With Me 3 Let It Bleed 3 Midnight Rambler 3 You Got The Silver 3 Monkey Man 4 You Can't Always Get What You Want 5 Carried by the hits, but the rest of the album was good.
Ok but not my world
Good album. Fun to listen to every few years. Couple of truly classic songs, but again, with the overwhelming ubiquity of the classic rock format, you only need to hear them once every few years at this point. Something I wish they hadn’t done: I think it’s great that they have a deep love of blues and country like a lot of British musicians do/did. But I just wish, as they’re trying to shine light on these songs, and honor them, that Jagger would just sing them in his regular voice. When he tries to adopt a hillbilly twang, it moves the song into the realm of parody. And I’m not really sure that that’s what they were going for.
3.5 Two great hit on this
A good early Rolling Stones album. Focuses a lot more on some late 60's US experiences they had and those kinds of music styles as well as the tragedy of Brian Jones. Not one of my favorites, but if you try some times, you get what you need.
The Rolling Stones' 1969 album 'Let It Bleed' is a gritty and bluesy masterpiece that tries to delve into the heart of "Rock and Roll". "Country Honk" encapsulates a sound that feels like what people might attempt to line dance to when they want a taste of country without fully committing to the rodeoing cowboy genre. However, I think Mick Jagger should hang up the cowboy boots on this one. Amidst this varied landscape, the title track "Let It Bleed" stands out, exuding almost a sensual, sexy vibe, adding a somewhat provocative element to the album. Just like the other Rolling Stones album I was subjected to a few days ago, this album once again shows the band's versatility with tracks like "You Can't Always Get What You Want," where the unexpected inclusion of a choir adds a surprising twist. I find the choir a bit out of place, with the song evoking a vibe reminiscent of early 2000s romcom soundtracks or nostalgic advertisements for like, cars or the supermarket. Despite any reservations, the enduring quality of album opener "Gimme Shelter" stands out as a testament to the band's enduring legacy, solidifying its place as a timeless and iconic rock song. While the album displays The Rolling Stones' musical prowess and ability to experiment with different styles, I still stand by the sentiment that they're overrated, which leaves me with a complex mix of admiration and skepticism for their iconic status in the rock pantheon.
Their first album to really be worth listening to, even if a lot of the tracks are not very good. B
I’m not a huge fan of The Rolling Stones —it’s probably one of my greatest sins. Having said that, “Gimme Shelter” is one of the greatest rock tracks ever recorded. The rest of this album varies from good to annoying, with some stage mixing choices throughout. Mick Jagger performs like he thinks he is a good singer, and that confidence has done a lot for him. But the best vocal performance on the album comes from Merry Clayton—and then, strangely, Keith Richards on “You Got The Silver.” The album closes with “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” which is another classic track, though it doesn’t transcend as well as the opening song. Not a bad album, but The Stones just aren’t my cup of tea.
This one felt way more country than I could've expected. Gimme Shelter is a great opener but the rest is just okay
Gimme Shelter is a 5⭐️ classic There are some glimpses of genius in the rest but nothing close to the drama of the opening track
Bra straight forward rock. Sista biisin var bäst
Ganz ok
3.5
pretty iconic i suppose but i don’t love it
"Gimmie Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" top, the rest of the album very boring and average. I have opened my eyes (and ears) on the great albums recorded bu The Rolling Stones thanks to this list, but I don't think "Let It Bleed" is one of their finest releases. Two hits, that I would call rather forgettable and a blues like album with anonymous songs didn't take my heart at all. I'm looking forward to more positions from their discography, but this one is a small flop, in my very honest opinion.
