Reviews (page 6 of 14)

I don’t know how I haven’t listened to this album before now: It is beautiful album and I swooned at the start of every track! It is now a fave in my listening library.

I can't believe I've never listened to this. A masterpiece.

This album was a staple around my house from my initial ability to form memories… and rightly so. Perfectly constructed songs performed perfectly. Amazing.

Yndisleg plata.

I listen to this album a couple times a month since it's one of my GF top album. I was waiting for it in this 1001 top. Incredible voices and amazing songwriting.

Masterpiece

Great album with a ton of hits

Top banana

As close to perfection as you'll find on an album. Pare this list down to 101 albums and "Tapestry" would absolutely remain on it. There's nothing showy here, just a brilliant singer-songwriter who paid her dues and was finally afforded the opportunity to record the best album she could. The result is something that contains all the feel of the early 1970's while remaining timeless. For me the centerpiece has always been "It's Too Late", which remains the quintessential break-up song. Tapestry remains something of an anthem for white women in particular, but everyone relates to "It's Too Late".

Just looking at the track listing this is already a 5 out of 5. This album was great, so many hits. It's very nostalgic and can make you feel good and sad. I knew so many of the words in these songs. I think my favorite songs on this album are so far away, you've got a friend, and its too late. Bops, reminds me of childhood

Classic tunes, all hits, with a fantastic voice.

absolute classic.

Piano is so good. I want to buy this record now

A classic

Not only is Carole King a gifted songwriter, the person behind a lot of hits, but she's a good singer. Tapestry graduates her from behind a desk at the Bryll Building to the spotlight. Amazing album with amazing songwriting.

Lovely voice, beautiful music for a mellow mood. 💕

SO MANY hits on this one. Amazing album.

Brilliant - so soulful, and a bunch of tracks I know and love. A perfect Sunday spin.

The quintessential singer songwriter of the 70s. The songs are beautiful, thoughtful with melodies that connect with your soul. If you don't find something on this album you like, you might be dead inside.

Excellent

This record is in regular (handful of plays a year) rotation in our house thanks to Annie. Before she put it on the first time, I never the greatness of Carole King. Now I know that this record is just the spillover from the hits she was packing into other artists' records. Incredible. The session players on this record walk the line - the perfect balance of looseness with proficiency. I also like that her voice isn't diva-level. It feels more earnest and believable. Personally, I'd rate this record 4/5 for my preferences, but its a 5/5 because I just need to get over myself and admit this is a near-perfect record.

I'm a fan of Carole King's music, but I never really dug real deep into it. So, I'll put my ignorance on full display here by acknowledging that I had no idea she played the piano (or even how piano-driven these songs really are) - which made me appreciate her (and this album) even more. There are a ton of great songs on here. Way Over Yonder is a beautiful song that I was previously unaware of - one of my new favorites. This recent listen also made me realize how much of an influence King must have been on Grace Potter, who I think is amazing. For all of those reasons, I'm bumping what everything in me says is a "high 4" up to a solid 5.

Wow. A classic I didn't even know existed. A track list of hits I never realized were written by the same artist. This is amazing...shopping for it on vinyl.

What a gem

The writing was splendid and the imagery travelled throughout each track The piano wasn't grand but made the listening experience that much better This is my 10th time listening to this album and my favourites are still: Home Again, Tapestry, Natural Woman and Smackwater Jack

This is lovely, lovely, lovely. It's been on repeat all afternoon whilst Carol King's beautiful songs and voice slowly sink into my soul and envelop me in a sense of calm enjoyment. Every track is top quality. Incredible. Rating: 5/5 Playlist track: It's Too Late Date listened: 21/04/22

Beetje traag, maar top

Brilliant from start to finish (though not a massive fan of the title track). Powerful without being overdone.

All bangers, front to back.

Impossible to argue against this one. So many classics Cover art 3/5

There's so much to enjoy from this album: the vocals, the sensitive production, the general all round ambience and warmth. But it comes down to the songs. There's not a poor choice on here. Each track is a masterpiece in song writing. Carole King makes the album personal with the emotion coming across. I've returned back to Tapestry for over three decades now. Each time it still delights.

One of the greatest albums of all time.

Such beautiful textures out of both her voice and the piano make this an easy five stars. Maybe with another listen I could make this more to be a four star but if I leave it to the first and only listen it is a five star. a la janis it's rawness and intensity.

Great first album to listen.

classic from the singer/songwriter era. Some would say it is THE singer/songwriter album. The first time I've listened to the album from front to back but of course I am already intimately familiar with at least 6 or even 8 songs on this 12 song album...that's pretty amazing in itself. The triumvirate of the first three songs...I feel The Earth Move, So Far Away and It's Too Late is incredible. Then the middle (side 2?) has You've Got A Friend, Where You Lead and Will You Love Me Tomorrow. And then we end with the gorgeous title track (which I was not familiar with) and then the epic; (....) A Natural Woman. It really is quite remarkable the number of songs this song has contributed to popular music...standards in the true sense of the word. Bravo Carole! 5 stars

So many hits on one record! Timeless brilliance lyrically and melodically. And King’s voice is raspy, cozy, down to earth, sincere…

What an amazing songwriter.

Perfect. Who can say any more?

I think i've never really listened to this as my mum was a huge fan. But WOW. What a song writer. So much we know and love - she wrote (You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman? Really? Just incredible.

Fantastic

This has been played so many times, it is embedded in the basic DNA of the culture. A classic easy listening album. I don't want to blame Tapestry for the thousands of pale imitators that followed. this is up there with 'Blue' as one of the greatest singer-songwriter albums of all time. (I still think Smackwater Jack is out of place on the record, but other that, it is difficult to fault).

What an album

So beautiful

A clinic in songwriting.

Is Carole King the original Adele? Is she a better singer songwriter than Adele? Both questions that need asking, and I vote yes. What a legendary album or beautiful classics this is.

I did not realize that Carole was such an incredible songwriter. This album is packed with radio staples; some would become hits with others performing but they are here just the same. I thought it was an above average album as while the so gs themselves are brilliant, the performance isn't always amazing. I'm not really a big fan of soft rock but this was about as good as the genre can get. I guess that's backhanded praise but it is what it is. In the end, I have to give this one full credit. I usually score based upon my own enjoyment, but my enjoyment would probably be a 3 or a 4. This album deserves a 5 because it's just masterful songwriting. It's a undeniable classic.

Classic…timeless

Great album

I really relate to the lyrics about feeling lonely, seeing the genuine emotions in people even when they can't, feeling like you don't have a home, and unconditional love toward someone who you care about later in the album. I found it very relatable and it's really nice for the right setting, I don't think I'll be jamming it every day but great lyrics, great voice, excellent story telling

brilliant

Отличные бэки, особенно в Where you lead!! А текст "You've got a friend" отлично поиграл на моих эмоциях, кто бы знал...

All time klassíker.

5.5…excellent music…all time great…one of the greats singer and songwriter

Soul-pop blue para encher o coração

One of those albums that I never expected to like as much as I did

Wonderful

Ahh, I hadn't listened to this in full for a few decades. A delightful memory of a classic!

This album is a bit softer than my usual, but I think it deserves 5 stars. This album has a warm, cozy, lived-in feeling personified by the photo of the artist sitting on a window seat with her cat. According to Wikipedia, King wrote or co-wrote every song as well as singing and playing keyboards and piano.

Rock setentero suave. Ni sé la de megahits que tiene... Un 5 claro.

An amazing album, from lyrics to mixing to composition truly a fantastic listening experience!

This is incredible. So wholesome and at times so heart wrenching. I LOVE her songwriting style, and it's a style that shines through after just 2 or 3 songs. So blunt and yet not simplistic at all. Gorgeous melodies and songs overall.

Crazy how many good songs are on here.

One of the most quintessential singer-songwriter albums of all time

Very difficult to find anything wrong with this album.

Piano and song Early pop

Another one of those iconic albums that exist in the fringes until you actually give it the focus it deserves and realize it's been in your heart through the airwaves from...ever. Astonishing voice and amazing display of song writing.

One of the best records I took from my parents. I have no idea how many times I listened to this growing up.

One of my mom's favorite albums so I've listened to it countless times. But that's okay, but it's great. Seriously, first track to last, it's a killer album. I can't think of a thing on it that I would change.

Another album falls in my comfort zone! All those wonderful songs, oh! It's Too Late! Will You Love Me Tomorrow! A Natural Woman!

I mean, come on. Carole King is the goat

Groovy to solemn

Wow, wat een relaxte muziek. Goed gezongen ook! Heel wat bekende nummers zelfs!! Mijn favorieten is "It's Too Late", maar de verrassing is "Where You Lead". *****

Absolute bangers

Wow! An excellent album that completely blows a lot of the other female singer songwriters of the era out of the water. Tough getting Aretha and Carole back-to-back, since it makes what would be a great rendition of Carole singing "You Make Me Feel" seem incredibly pedestrian in comparison. That's not Carole's fault.

One of my mom's favorites. Classic

Holy crap, I had heard many of these songs before and had no idea they were all by one person, let alone on the same album. Incredible.

I mean, just insanely good. Bangers only. Outstanding, top top top top stuff.

Snow is cold, rain is wet and my dick is rock solid. One of my favourite things to do when it snows is to go outside and pretend it's the first time I've ever seen it, just to see how people react. They usually don't care, so I just shrug, tackle them to the ground and sometimes molest them. Then every time it snows after that, they too pretend to themselves it's the first time they've seen it, to try and block out the molestation from their psyche.

Songs that stand the test of time, really put Carole on the map as more than just a songwriter.

What a banger of an album. This has every right to be one of the best-selling classic albums of all time just because it sounds so good. King's voice, songwriting, and quintessential 70s sound all come together to make every song enjoyable. Fav songs: I feel the earth move, its too late, way over yonder, where you lead

Carole King bangs. This album was amazing.

Basically a perfect pop album. Not a weak track here.

Tapestry is a perfect album. That's all there is to say about that.

I was very pleasantly surprised. This is cool.

A classic from the singer/songwriter era. 5 stars

I associate this album with a working mum in the 1980s, coming home from her corporate job, making dinner for the family, seeing her kids to bed, then relaxing with a glass of wine and her Carole. And for a long time, this was a bad thing, but maybe I've aged into this demographic, if not the exact lifestyle, because I'm enjoying this album. It has Cazza's strong Brill Building pop sensibility filtered through her chilled-out lady vibes. An album full of pop classics.

I'm thinking of a visit to the dentist long ago. He was getting ready to do some major drilling, and he asked me if I wanted to listen to any music. Tapestry is the album I picked. I found it warm and soothing in that unpleasant moment, and it's still an album I turn to when I want to feel comforted. Stressful day at work, Tapestry. Bummed out by current events, Tapestry. Having a moment when I'm stuck in my feelings, Tapestry. Even the cover... look at Carole King in the window, like a friend who is there to listen to you. In its way, this album feels like an old friend, as much as an album can. Tapestry has been there with me for so many years and speaks to me in a way few albums do. I think a lot of women, a lot of people, feel the same way. King's vocals and arrangements are understated, heartfelt, relatable. The songwriting is warm, earnest, intimate. The production is flawless. It's a beautiful album, long one of my favorites. Fave songs: It's Too Late, Home Again, So Far Away, Beautiful, Way Over Yonder

I don't even have to listen to this. It's on constant rotation and is a stellar 5

I feel like I use, "an impressive blend of [insert genres here]," whenever I'm praising an album, but I think this album is a great mix of a number of genres I wasn't really expecting. Rock, folk, blues, gospel... I can see James Taylor's influence on this record (and he also plays on it, so that makes sense), as well as a song I could see Creedence Clearwater Revival doing ("Smackwater Jack"). I can see all of the praise for this record: I don't think I can find a bad song. King is a phenomenal songwriter and it shines through on this record. Definitely gonna give this record a spin when it gets cooler out; a very fall/winter-mood record. Favorite tracks: "So Far Away", "Home Again", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?"

Some folks put on Pink Floyd and watch Wizard of Oz. Some folks put on Carole King and watch Gilmore Girls. I’ve done both.

oh my god this was amazing

Wow, i knew nothing about carole king or this album and i thought most of these songs were originally by other people. I dont know what to say about this collection of songs outside of the fact its pretty near pefect.

A true classic and as enjoyable today as the day it was recorded.

Sonically pleasing. Very easy to listen and enjoy. Nice vocals accompanied by the minimal instrumentals is a perfect combination for this record. Surprisingly doesn't sound as dated as other albums recorded around the same time because of its stripped-down approach of soft vocals and soft instrumentals. The whole record is a cohesive and smooth body of work, with no abrupt stops and changes.

go off queen hell yeah

Feels extremely intimate and personal, most of the songs bang too. The instruments are all captured in the mix so well too, great album!

This album was great! None of the songs missed the mark for me; I enjoyed them all. This is a masterpiece, honestly. 5/5 stars.

Album Song Ranking: So Far Away Way Over Yonder (H.M.) You've Got a Friend (H.M.) Where You Lead Natural Woman Beautiful Will You Love Me Tomorrow I Feel the Earth Move Home Again Tapestry It's Too Late Smackwater Jack Additional Comments:

This was a real gem. Hadn't heard of her before (though had heard a few of the songs).

I actually loved the album, i though I wasn't gonna love it, but i do. It's really a good one, a perfecto folk-alternative rock album, I really liked it. It's one of my favourites since.

Brilliant, best album yet. Somehow, an album that combines soul, blues, soft rock, and folk, none of which I would say I particularly like, manages to really grab me. Every song that comes on seems to be my favourite

This one of a handful of albums I do not need to hear again to know how important it is, how much I love it, why it's one of the best-selling albums ever, and why it's absolutely essential on a list like this. Her songwriting, her recording and performance of the material, the album's cultural significance and impact on music that followed, and so on. That, and by all accounts, she seems to be an absolutely wonderful person (I even walked right by her when I lived in L.A. and she gave me a big smile! Yep, I'm totally star-struck ;). Five stars in every way!

This is a classic album. No skips and each song is timeless.

So very nice and mellow. 5 stars!

great for studying! Loved

Wow! I had vaguely heard of Carole King as a famous songwriter, but never checked out her own recordings. This one is fantastic. All the songs are King's, and all delivered amazingly. Two of the songs were co-written with her ex-husband when they were a writing team, and two of the songs had already been hits for other artists. I was expecting the softer folkier vibes, but this album also has a strong R&B/soul feel, which I might have expected given that Aretha Franklin and The Shirelles were the artists who already recorded two of the songs. I'm not a fan of Aretha's style, and I actually prefer King's version "You Make Me Feel". In essence, this is just a great album from start to finish. Perfect 5.

Tapestry is like All Things Must Pass, all of those ideas just needing a canvas to present themselves. Soulful and conversational lyrics, with blues-y and approachable music throughout.

The ultimate singer-songwriter album of its time. It’s flawless and testament to Carole King’s incredible talent.

I definitely did not see this coming. This album is amazing. I have always been aware of this record, but I’d never actually listened to it. Perhaps it was good that I didn’t, I’m not sure you get me would have appreciated it. As it stands, this is a great album. It absolutely scratches that 70’s itch that I’ve developed. This is an absolute 5

Pretty incredible, honestly. Took me a couple listens - less attention can make this album seem a little slow (read: my other reviews on singer-songwriter albums), but I loved this. The tunes are so catchy, she's got a superb voice, and each piece fits well with the next. A 4.5 I'm giving a 5 because what the hell Saved: It's Too Late, Way over Yonder, Tapestry, (You Make Me Feel) Like A Natural Woman

Great album! 4.5 stars! Rounded to a 5. Wikipedia says Soft Rock but I would've said R&B. Carole King's voice is incredibly solid, and she does really push herself and show it off. Mostly quite energetic groovy songs, with some slow and intimate ballads that go well with her voice. A couple of these songs have stood the test of time. "You've Got a Friend" is like a complete emotional blanket. "Way Over Yonder" in 6/8 is really decent (+sexy sax solo) but my favourite may be "I Feel The Earth Move" as the rhythm section (gtar, bass, piano, drums) all get to play great melodies and solos.

Let this float around the room in the morning

I had a wonderful time walking around abbey fields listening to this album in the sunshine after work. Beautiful. I was surprised at how many of the songs I already knew. I must have heard this before in a former life.

Top, top album.

A proper classic

Simply beautiful. I think this album is essential to any vinyl collection.

Soooo good

Songwriting Excellence, full of soul

She's an awesome song writer too.

Fire piano and vocals, an absolute peach of a classic

wicked flute, sax, rhodes --> jazz influences incredible vocals wow way over yonder is slapper

Classic

Incredible. Iconic.

I know this first song! I don’t think I knew it was by Carole King. I feel like I’ve heard of her but didn’t really know anything about her. And I know the second one, too. I guess she’s a pop queen of the 70s.

one of the fairy godmothers of rock and roll

One of my all time favorite albums. I feel the earth move has been ringing in my head since getting this pick.

the heart. Telling compelling stories with each song. The music is a great accompaniment, never overshadowing her great vocals. She is one of the greatest song writers in history and her credits could easily fill all time lists. I cannot say enough good about this album(and King herself). Definitely a must listen.

One of the classics

Very good. Lots of song I know but didn't know it was her.

Love it, I feel the earth move and way over yonder are great!

Outstanding.

it's 5/5 no doubbbb

Timeless, easy listen great vocals. You got a friend is a classic but I also loved tapestry and way over yonder. Great stuff!

This is very comforting, like a 90s romcom soundtrack or an album I'd put on and listen to around the house. Maybe it's because I associate her with Gilmore Girls. I recognized quite a few songs, too. Carole's one talented lady.

4,13 1. "I Feel the Earth Move" 2. "It's Too Late" 3. "You've Got a Friend"

8.7 Really incredible album! It genuinely just makes you feel very homey and warm. Can’t wait to listen to this in the fall! Favorite Song: You’ve Got a Friend

growing up on gilmore girls i went in expecting “where you lead” vibes and it was exactly that not ideal to listen to when you have “stay” by the kid laroi and jb in your left year but you gotta do what you gotta do ig it def was enjoyed

Oon velho. Vittu se on hyvä sarja. Jumalauta. Mutta up there.

Kova meno! 🙌🏼 Ja siis wau! Tiukkoja ylläreitä: ”Ai tääki on alkujaan Carolen kynästä?!!?!” 🤩

Ah, pitkästä aikaa jotain iloista. Love me some old school folk rock muijat ja tiesin et tykkäisin tästä.

Very nice album! Loved the piano. A little slow for my taste, but understandably one of the greats.

Schmaltzy but tuneful. I still tend to side with Dylan’s snarky assessment of the Tin Pan Alley musical mode, but it’s hard to deny C.K.’s songwriting chops (the vocals, ehh….).

4/5, definitely has influenced a lot of modern pop records

Best thing I've heard from this list in a long time.

A collection of great songs I’ve heard a million times without ever realizing they were all from the same album.

Reminds of some of music on guardians playlist

Gilmore girls, heck yeah

Pidin Carolen pehmeästä äänestä ja pianonsoitosta. Kappaleista Will You Love Me Tomorrow? ja (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman olivat entuudestaan tuttuja muiden artistien esittäminä. Tykkäsin myös kotoisasta kansikuvasta ja kissasta.

Very good

BANGER LETS GO GILMORE GIRLS

4/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/carole-king/tapestry/ Maybe not an entirely fair rating, because I did very much enjoy this album. But it's just not my thing, really. I can listen to it, and see it's worth, but wouldn't often listen to it by my own volition. Or maybe I will, when I give it a more proper chance. You know what, 4 instead of 3.5!

A very, very good album that I thoroughly enjoyed and will listen to again. Credit also goes to the cat on the cover photo

I've not listened to this in a one-er before. Blimey, Carole King is incredible eh. What a writer, what a mood, what a voice.

It has quite a few good songs, better than I expected it to be.

Excellent. I didn't realize she wrote the 'Earth moves under my feet' track. Enjoyed the rest of the album, too.

Almost like listening to a greatest hits album. Some lovely songs. Some are just average. You can see why it sold so well. Music for a Sunday afternoon

Really good actually

I'm always staggered by the list of songs Carole King wrote, it's a ridiculous list of greats. The writing here is pretty much faultless - Smackwater Jack is a bit odd. The production is perfect, the musicians are great. The only thing is that some of these sound better with stronger voices. But I thoroughly enjoyed this.

Really good. Amazing to see how many famous songs she has penned. Love it

Lots of great songs and a fabulous singer-songwriter.

type shit

Masterpiece

Never heard of Carole King (blasphemy? Maybe); always love getting brand new music to my ears. "I Feel The Earth Move" blindsided me; it had all the attitude of Rock 'n' Roll but played on piano; King's vocals never wavering. Really great track, with simple uplifting lyrics. "So Far Away" slowed the pace right down and although it was beautiful for King's voice and piano playing, it didn't do anything for me. Perhaps because it felt more "folky" than the first track, which I really did like. "It's Too Late" picked up the pace slightly again, then "Home Again" dropped it; I think I've been spoilt by I Feel The Earth Move. Despite this, King's voice continues to impress. Home Again shows her incredible range with her pitch increases around the 1:40 mark. Great stuff. Inexplicably, though "Beautiful" matches the tone of the songs I had previous grievances for dropping the pace too much, I really enjoyed this one; think it's moreso the lyrics on this one that helped push it to where it was enjoyable for me, which is a first for this journey, honestly. Learning more into country with subtle guitar and low bass, "Way Over Yonder" was simply beautiful; King showing her voice really can stand almost on it's own. "You've Got A Friend" had me feeling the same way as So Far Away and "Where You Lead" I loved with it's backing singers. Other songs enjoyed: "Smackwater Jack" and "A Natural Woman". For some reason, I couldn't get on board with the fairytale like lyrics of "Tapestry". Overall, I can appreciate that Carole King is an incredible talent and, although every song was very listenable at the least, I didn't enjoy some of the slower paced songs as much as I could have. Even so, there are a good amount of songs here I'd be happy to have in my playlists and rotations.

I had this album all wrong and thought it was just some sing-songy, soft music. I checked the track list and saw a bunch of famous songs so then thought it was a cover album. I checked the facts and learned Carole wrote or co-wrote every single song, and was finally releasing them herself. I'm all about coming up with songs yourself so this is the creative situation I like the most.

Absolutely beautiful, truly gorgeous album. A strong, beautiful voice. Beautiful harmonies, lovely production. What’s not to like?

Bell'album, con alcune hit, molto chill e lei gran voce

Hele dagen.

An absolute treat on a Sunday morning - made us investigate her life which was an eye opener too! Half the tracks are well loved classics and the rest are not far behind. An amazing album.

Lyrics were awful

I Feel the Earth Move - 4.5/5 So Far Away - 3.5/5 It's Too Late - 3.5/5 Home Again - 3/5 Beautiful - 4/5 Way Over Yonder - 3/5 You've Got a Friend - 3/5 Where You Lead - 4/5 Will You Love Me Tomorrow? - 3/5 Smackwater Jack - 4/5 Tapestry - 3.5/5 (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman - 3.5/5

Not exactly my thing, but hard to deny that this is a seriously impressive piece of work once you actively listen to the music rather than tell yourself "yeah I know this one" and tune out. Anything less than 4 stars would be an insult to both the exceptional songwriting and the exceptional cat.

Carole King might have one of the most interesting careers in the music industry. Be in a writing partnership creating some of the best doo-wop songs of all time and then start a solo career with a style that could rival Janis Joplin. Liked that this had newer takes on the older songs she wrote.

I recall seeing this album for sale in the Whole Foods in Fort Collins CO as a child. Stopping by after rotting away in the Miramont in that parking complex. I thought she was so beautiful and I wished I could listen to the music. I had never wanted to listen to an album before. It's a wonderful set of tracks. This is my first time listening to it all the way through. The conditions aren't exactly what I would like to to be. I'm extremely busy and cannot focus to save my life. I'm listening as people watch Survivor in the the other room. Shouting! My earbuds are staticky, but the light of the lamp is nice, gas fire spouting out the chimney. Where you lead I will follow!

I remember my parents had this album and would play it sometimes when I was growing up though it would have been a good 15 or so years old at that point, but it does have a timeless quality to it.

First songs of the album 4/5, last songs 3/5. Might listen again

Pretty good actually

I liked this - knew a few songs

Not my genre, but I actually enjoyed this a lot

Truly a master of her craft. A pleasant surprise to hear the GG theme, didn't realize that was miss Carole King

Notables: - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

This album is loaded front to back with all time classics.

Its a nice album maybe too much similarity between themes that's why it may seem a bit boring, nevertheless the music is really nice, especially the first songs of the album really thrilled me.

Queen of folk

This one really grew on me with multiple listens. Feels like drinking a glass of lemonade on the porch in the summer.

Surprised how many of these songs i know

A bit cheesy but I really like her singing and the feel of the music

Some really good songs, wasn't expecting to like much of it, but enjoyed it. Quite a lot of influence from James Taylor

I really enjoyed listening to this while under a blanket working at my coffee table. It feels like something I’ll put on in a chilly morning or slow moving day. I don’t think the whole album is a day to day listen for me, but I think there are songs I should add to some of my regular playlists.

There are so many good songs on this record, but the one I really want to listen to over and over is It's Too Late. I like most of the rest of the tracks but they don't move me enough to get to a 5.

Clear why this is on the list. Great songs even if mostly not quite to my taste.

She just makes you feel heard and hugged. Like a warm cup of tea. Love the voice, so unique

Listened previously. Expectations: High - Verdict: Near Perfect - I Feel The Earth Move is brilliant. A wonderful song. It's Too Late is also incredible. All the songs here a very good as an absolute minimum. Way Over Yonder is lovely. You've Got A Friend is a masterpiece. A Natural Woman is beautiful. An album just stacked full of wonderful songwriting. Brilliant.

Such beauty seems simple and effortless. Heartwarming, vulnerable & kind. I hadn’t realised how many gems were in one place (although it is natural woman that has one of the greatest lyrics & moods of all time).

Finally an album that's not just OK, or listenable, but actually good. A thoroughly enjoyable listen.

Started off slow but I really liked it after home again started. I heard lots of motown influence, especially in the 1st half. She has a nice strong voice and listening to yhe album feels like home, despite this not being my normal music taste.

I didn't think I was familiar with any of these songs, but I was surprised to know half of them. 4

I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It gave me a warm nostalgic feeling. Like a Sunday morning in an old 80s kitchen sitting at the table clipping coupons for TV dinners. Favorite- Its Too Late

Such a great album! I really enjoyed listening to this one. I felt like the only thing missing was the right weather. It would be perfect for a cool fall day. My favorite track was So Far Away, but really several could have been there. I'm listening again as I type this out.

It’s hard to rate these classic albums sometimes because you’ve heard bits and pieces of them a billion times and it’s hard to come at them with fresh ears. Anyway, lotsa good songs on here

Amazing voice, amazing lyrics. Surprised that I had never heard any of those songs before.

The soundtrack of my mom’s sophomore year in high school. A pinnacle achievement for a great singer-songwriter. 8/10.

Was a bit worried about this one after the recent string of terrible singer-songwriter albums, but the album was pretty good! Lots of recognizable songs; some I have heard before, others I recognized from cover versions, and the ‘Gilmore Girls’ theme song even made an appearance. An ideal version of a singer-songwriter album, each song had its own feel both sonically and lyrically. Just a couple tracks toward the end I wasn’t in love with will keep it from being perfect, but as it stands, album #300 will be a strong 4/5. Good weekend listening!

This is a fantastic album. There are several great songs. It's just not really my jam - otherwise it would be 5 stars. Pitchfork: 10.0 Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #25 (2020) Best Songs I Feel the Earth Move So Far Away It's Too Late Beautiful You've Got a Friend Where You Lead

No review today, just some observations. Over the years there have been times when it seemed like every record collection included a copy of Tapestry, then times when every charity shop had at least one copy and, those times now probably being gone, I actually believe that no home should be without it. There were >15 million of these sold so they are out there. I realised recently (read: embarrassingly belatedly) that she must have other good albums. I got myself a bunch from the early 70s and I was right; she does. Tapestry is just better though. There’s some extra magic in the grooves and also the planets aligned or something because she captured the moment completely and the people were entranced. It was just right for the time. Zeitgeist. Tapestry is a deserved triumph for an astonishingly good songwriter and an artefact that encapsulates a moment in time exquisitely. If AOR/MOR was my thing this would be a 5.

Surprised by how many songs I knew. Nice background hanging out music

liked this ! Lots of actual classics and she wrote so many more too!!

Carole King is one of the best songwriters ever and this album is one banger after another.

What a delightful album to get on a Monday! Always heard the name Carole King and had seen this album cover, but I never listened to her until now. This was so much fun! I realized I knew more songs on this album than I thought I did. I can see why this was so popular. If I could nit pick, not every song hit for me which is why I am giving it a 4 instead of a 5, but I can't complain much more outside of that.

Carole

I got this from my mom's old album collection and love it!

Beautiful

Solid and straightforward, the artist's talent is front and center

Variety: 4 Adequacy: 5 Listenability: 5 Uniqueness: 3 Emotionality: 5 = 4.4 rounded down to a 4 "I've seen fire and I've seen rain/ I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end/ I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend/ But I always thought that I'd see you again" This a record that used to get a LOT of spins in my house growing up. My mom had this in regular rotation with Simon and Garfunkel's greatest hits, Let it Be, and The Best of Bread ( they can't all be winners) for years. Probably since I was a kid that I've heard the whole thing all the way through, but I never remember getting tired of it. Much later on - after "You Make Me Feel" had likely earned Ms. King millions in royalties and Clairol advertisement money, I finally realized this person was the "King" of Goffin and King which I would occasionally see on label. Goffin and King were like Holland/ Dozier. These mysterious entities, who had their names stamped on so many classic singles. Fingers crossed this holds up. THE TRACKS Side 1 "I Feel the Earth Move" - Hot damn. What an opener. I don't think hearing this a zillion times on the radio has dulled it's effect in the slightest. Well, maybe slightly, but that's true for any old hits. But there are the ones that you listen to anyway, and the ones you start skipping and resenting. This is the former for me. "So Far Away" - Jesus. Stop it, Carole. *sniff*. But seriously, try very hard not to think of anything sad while listening to this one unless you want to reach for the kleenex. And it's not even really in the lyrics, which are fine, but King's delivery here, and the vulnerability in her voice. This completely avoids the easy listening pap label from me, and falls into that James Taylor/ Joni Mitchell category where they're just such great performers, and the craft is so strong, it transcends all the soundalike garbage form the era.. It's easy to imagine a Bill Withers singing this, but not so much Christopher Cross. "It's Too Late" - In spite of the lyrics, this one doesn't actually feel that sad to me. There's a lot more resignation going on here than anything I think. The guitar and horn might be slighty lamentful, but that piano is gonna drive right through the rain on until the clouds part and the sun comes back out. "Home Again" - Not my favorite, but a damn solid entry. "Beautiful" - In lesser hands, this would be some very slippery territory. The oompah band beat, and the aspirational, sappy message seem like they shouldn't work together, but abracadabra... there it is. "Way Over Yonder" - This sounds to me like King's try at a gospel song, and man is it a success. I could easily imagine this as covered by The Staple Singers maybe. Beautiful stuff. Side 2 "You've Got a Friend" - James Taylor made this his own for sure, but I really do prefer this version. Baby James gets a bit too clean and cool for me. This is full and open and supportive where his is sadder and feels more like an inner monologue. Carole is telling a friend this, while James is thinking about how he would like to tell a friend this. "Where You Lead" - Fine stuff, but not a go too for me. I prefer Carole when she's trying to make me cry. "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" - Oh damn.... I forgot about this. King doing a version of the hit she wrote for The Shirelles. That's a HARD hill to climb, but she does it with grace here, slowing it way down and turning up the yearning. "Smackwater Jack" - Again, not my favorite mode for her, but this is still very good stuff, for being a bit slight. Almost sounds like something she could have gifted to Linda Ronstadt or doing a laid back take on Jim Croce material. The one song on here that feels a bit out of place. "Tapestry" - This is much closer to that Carpenters feel than anything else on here. Good stuff , but again not my bag. "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" - Wow... Talk about a closer. This is the rare case where a song with two amazing versions co-exist in my head as both being THE version. I think I've probably heard this one more, so going to give it the edge. Just. Perfection. HIGHLIGHTS - "I Feel the Earth Move" - "So Far Away" - "It's Too Late" - "Beautiful" - "Way Over Yonder" - "You've Got a Friend" - "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" MIDLIGHTS - "Home Again" - "Where You Lead" - "Smackwater Jack" - "Tapestry" LOWLIGHTS - Not a chance FINAL THOUGHTS I think Carole King is probably my top choice for female vocalist of the era. She might not be the most technically proficient, or able to pull off the high highs that someone like Aretha could, but it's just the sweet spot for me. I'm not an enormous Carpenters fan, but King is up there with Karen Carpenter in being able to pull off sincere emotional feeling in their songs. King just wins out because she's more soulful. King belongs up there with Randy Newman, Paul Williams, and Dr. John as far as great 70s piano balladeers go. But... as hard as the best songs on this hit me ( and they hit hard), there's just ever slightly too much stuff that's out of my wheelhouse. Even that stuff is well performed, just wasn't dynamite. Unreleased track "Out in the Gold" would have made those highlights as well and is worth seeking out. PLAYLIST ALTERATIONS - I'm good. I'll even hang on to those I'm lukewarm on. - Unreleased track "Out in the Gold" would have made those highlights as well and is worth including FURTHER LISTENING - Sweet Baby James by James Taylor - Blue by Joni Mitchell - Shoot Out the Lights by Richard and Linda Thompson

Classic

Cute cat on the album! :D Liking the slower beats Reminds me that I have a bias against higher female voices Sometimes I forget just how repetitive spoken music is Love the sax and other woodwinds Dang this is a love filled selection of songs. I feel like a curmudgeon lmao Yawning a lot from the beats per minute. Soothing on the slower songs. Way over yonder might be a good sleep induction song. Spent more time actively listening to Smackwater Jack cause it was a story Lovely visuals and quilt in Tapestry. Natural Woman feels a little empty? maybe I'm used to hearing later verses

Lovely, nice, soulful album. Never listened to Carol but she’s got all the hits.

Queen!

Really enjoyed this one. Turns out I already knew some of the songs as some of them were and still are quite popular. Nice to properly associate the artist to the music I've heard before.

This album has shown me that I knew more Carole King songs than I thought. It’s Too Late, You’ve Got A Friend, Natural Woman (which I see is a cover) and they’re all great tracks. Her voice is so smooth and effortless and the songs have such a nice flow to them, with props to the music as well. I enjoyed this a lot.

Gorgeous. More albums like this in the place of miscellaneous dad rock please 🙏

So many beautiful songs on this album!

Just a legend. All the feels and a timestamp of the 70's that still resonates today. 4.

It was actually good + it has a cat on the cover.

True and emotive classic that stands the test of time, it’s just very beautiful, pun intended. My standouts are I feel the earth move, it’s too late, way over yonder, smackwater jack, the title track and you make me feel like a natural woman, so yeah like half the tracklist. It’s just barely not a 5 to me, sorry.

hovering between a three and a four because these are great songs and I love her but it’s also an album of the same sound. For songs that’s not a bad thing but for an album it can kind of fold together after a bit also a bit of an adjustment listening to so many songs I know but largely from covers by other artists or have been overplayed by tv/commercials it’s good! I like it! it doesn’t quite gel as an album but maybe that’s ok

Je connaissais sans trop connaitre enfaite. J'ai beaucoup aimé

Me gustó, se sintió bien escucharlo. Es relajante, nostálgico pero muy emocional

I feel a little guilty not giving this a five. It's a monster. I'm a monster.

reminds me of what genre my mother used to listen and likes a lot

Lovely collection of songs

very nice very smooth. love carol's vocals. love the pleasant sounds. very soft and warm. i feel cozy. 7/10

Tapestry was a very enjoyable album. When looking at the highest rated albums on this site released in 1971, i was shocked to see that this is the 4th highest rated one from that year mainly because i have never heard of it and yet, it's passed very well known albums like Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones and Who's Next by The Who. But after listening to it, i can easily see why people love it. It has so many things which you would want from a great singer-songwriter album from relaxing music, deep vocals and some very great songwriting. It is the songwriting that mainly steals the show but everything else still helps make this album really good. Best Song: Tapestry Worst Song: Home Again

Lovely! Uh, sure this would warrant a must-listen. #327.

This is pretty nice, not combo of multiple styles but doesn’t lean too much into one thing

Goodness. How many hits are on this album. It’s like TayTay over here.

Zone out a lil bit. I like her.

v wonderful, a but theatrical

Not bad

This album is interesting; can’t tell if Carol King is a contemporary of Joni Mitchell or who influenced who, but both are worthy inclusions. I don’t imagine myself coming back to this album regularly but I have to admire the songwriting

What a lovely album to listen to. A bunch of heart felt songs. Great campfire listening

Wow. I can’t believe I was on this planet for so long without ever listening to this album from start to finish. An absolute masterclass in songwriting excellence. If you haven’t heard all these songs a hundred times you truly live under a rock.

Recomendado

There's something that's just so unique about pop music from the early 70s. This album and Todd Rundgren just hit upon a style and chords progressions that haven't really made a comeback since, and that's unfortunate, because it has such a warm and comforting, yet complex quality to it.

I was surprised to learn that these are all originals - no covers. There are better singers singing her songs - making them better. But good songs none the less. Don’t love her voice - but mostly great songs here with few exceptions (cough cough Tapestry cough).

Lots of songs I knew on here. Really good.

Best: I Feel the Earth Move, So Far Away

Tapestry is very emotional and sometimes hard to listen to. The sound is simple and gentle, but the feelings are quite heavy. Songs like You’ve Got a Friend and It’s Too Late are especially difficult for me. They are beautiful, but also painful.

Surprised by how many of these tracks I knew already, and how much more I enjoyed it just by virtue of being an album not by a guy/bunch of guys. Incredibly refreshing and worked for me in a way that a lot of rock of this era doesn’t.

I’ve listened to Tapestry approximately 271,664,818 times and it still moves me when I give it a new play. It’s an album that’s gone from great to hugely overplayed to settle into its proper status as an icon. Carole King doesn’t have the range of an Aretha or the power of a Janis; what she has is the ability to sing in a lived-in, truly emotional way that draws me in no matter how familiar the song. Listen to how she sings “Natural Woman”. She doesn’t try to compete with Aretha, but gives the song a softer impression that she’s singing just to her love in the same room. And her songwriting is natural and true. That’s the compelling style of Carole King. Timeless.

Clear, simple, powerful. Is there a better songwriter in the world? Great voice too. Great album.

Ok!!!!!!

A beautiful collection of songs. An incredible second album from one of our more iconic singer-songwriters. Would love to own this on vinyl.

70’s Rock ⭐️It’s Too Late

Pretty standard singer-songwriter vocalist-at-a-piano stuff. Gets an extra point for being so early.

Beautiful voice

FEET.

Mejor canción: Fell the earth moving Canción que menos me gustó:- Nota: 8,5/10 Notas HM: tapestry y where you lead.

5/5 for timeless classics 2/5 for my actual enjoyment

Didn't recognise the name, knew some of the songs though! Great songwriting stands the test of time

Pfff, album DEL CARAJO.

fav songs: i feel the earth so far away you've got a friend where you lead will you love me tomorrow? (you make me feel like) a natural woman warm, melodic, open 85/100

A very good surprise. At first I thought Not folk rock! But it turned out to be pretty good songs.

The first impression I get when listening is her singing and songwriting confidence. Not a note out of place, every phrase soulful and heartfelt, but still loose and groovy. Most of the songs here have had considerable exposure, whether recorded by others or herself and featured in films or TV. A quality classic.

i like the bass

All time classic. Great songwriter and part of a magical time

This is peak singer songwriting on god she knows how to craft a beautiful album

First album on the project and loved it. Did not know she sang “You’ve got a friend.”
