Reviews (page 8 of 14)

my mom would play this while she cleaned the house. good memories :)

My Dad likes Carole King and sometimes when I go to watch the football with him he’ll just put some music on via YouTube on the TV as we chat and have a beer, and Carole King is a go to for him, so it’s possible I’ve heard the album before. I certainly know half of the tracks since they are well known, made famous either by her or other artists. I really enjoyed this listen today, some of the influences and style here seems quite eclectic and the instrumentation really elevated it at times - definitely feels like an album to hear before you die.

We need more women on this list.

listen to this all the time I Feel the Earth Move - 4/5 So Far Away - 5/5 It's Too Late - 5/5 Home Again - 4/5 Beautiful - 5/5 Way Over Yonder - 4/5 You've Got a Friend - 4/5 Where You Lead - 3/5 Will You Love Me Tomorrow? - 5/5 Smackwater Jack - 3/5 Tapestry - 3/5 (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman - 5/5 Average score: 4.2/5 (rounding down) it's a classic, hard not to love it. reminds me a lot of Laura Nyro, though i don't think Tapestry hits quite as hard love her version of You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman just as much as i do Aretha's (which makes sense as she composed it)

Great music to listen to. Almost always good (if you don't want to go crazy).

Outstanding album. The arrangement, backings and vocals are all top drawer. Rightly seen as a classic release

White lady blues. Pretty damn powerful though and she’s got a kitty on the album cover.

These are great songs performed very well. I was surprised at the hits on this album and the variety of tone and energy. This feels so 70s, in a good way. I'm so glad that someone gave Carol a chance to record this album, it's very good and easy to listen to. I will say there's a very happy-sounding tune about a guy who brings a shotgun to church that seems a bit out of place...

Bangers still bangers

such a beautiful cozy album. feels like coffee with friends on a winter’s day.

First album, some nice funky bass lines to it, Sarah seems to know a few songs, I knew a few too

Bonito. I feel the earth move fue mi favorita, excelente álbum.

не знал что you've got a friend ее песня, думал что это James Taylor.

Really enjoyed "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" and pretty much everything else on this album. There were really no bad songs and I found myself enjoying all of them.

Loved this. Though it's a relatively soft album, there's some songs with great energy that keep it from slowing down too much. Some beautiful songs, some of which I thought were much older as well.

So many familiar songs! Wonderful catto on the album art as well

Very enjoyable album. I did not realize that she performed all of these songs. She has a great voice.

Perfect late night winter album

Nice mellow album

A lot of iconic songs...and then Smackwater Jack...😅 But honestly a really great singer/songwriter album.

7,25 Cuidadito con los temas: -“It's too late” -“Way over Yonder” -“So Far away”

Fantastic songwriter's enthusiastic renditions of her own material. I can't really fault it on that front - Tapestry is every bit as worthy as the Billy Joels and the Elton Johns of this world in the singer-songwriter stakes. The only thing preventing me dishing out five stars is that the arrangements, coupled with rather unadventurous production, means things get a tad samey the deeper you go. But it's a minor gripe - "samey" here, of course, being used to describe compositions of incredible quality - a tad sentimental and wistful for my tastes, so not something I listen to often, but still admire from afar.

I love her, good oldies

Lovely collection of songs which all have memorable lyrics and hooks. Really enjoyed putting on over again.

Listened previously - top 5 album of its year for sure.

Great songs, poetic lyrics that stay mostly in the realm of relationships and their complexities. I was pleasantly surprised to know 4 songs from this album, 2 made more popular by other artists, and 2 that I never really knew the artist of. After listening to this, I won’t forget who wrote these songs.

You've got a friend ❤️

1001 albums finally named a woman for a dollar

Kinda Snoozy but very good

This was a tough one; so close to a 5, but not quite on the same level as Abbey Road or Getz Gilberto

Pretty classic 70s.

I very much so like the song beautiful

Lite FM/Easy listening - I really liked So Far Away and Where You Lead. Cozy songs to listen to on a sunday

W sumie to fajne. Szczególnie pierwsza piosenka. 4/5

BEST SONGS: - I Feel the Earth Move - It's Too Late - Way Over Yonder - You´ve Got a Friend - Where You Lead

Great production, phenomenal voice. Easy listening and a great all round album.

Such a nice surprise. Wow.

This really was as good as they say. It might need more relistens though.

This was great.

This is an interesting record, in that I don't find it a very interesting listen, but I do think its objectively quite good, and its clearly highly influential. So many of the tracks have becomes staples, covered countless times - I was a little surprised to find out that King did write or co-write all the tracks. Its an impressive setlist. 3.6/5

I can' say I hated it, nor can I say it's bad - it's a clearly wonderful album, but it didn't excite me all that much. That said, some classic songs.

Zuhause, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Wundervolles Album!

I know of her and know how legendary she is in her own right, with songwriting. Never really listened to much of her stuff. A couple tracks in, this is pretty good. Listenable. Some good tunes. I dig it.

Just a lovely listen. So much talent and so well delivered.

I liked this! Didn't love it, but it did have its moments. Really good musicianship and well crafted songwriting, I feel it is just not my wheelhouse, but was a good album I'd not be offended to hear again! :) (tl;dr it was good and maybe one day it'll catch me and I'll love it)

Beautiful.

Such a relaxing album

Not my usual album but this is a really well written and sung collection of tracks that are pretty timeless. Pop verging on jazz at times with some really strong songs like It's Too Late, A Natural Woman. I Feel The Earth Move and Will You Love Me Tomorrow.

I enjoyed this, talented song writer

Carole King is dope

Not my normal taste in music but there are some classics on this album.

I never thought that there was a remote chance that I would like this album, but Tapestry is a songwriting clinic!

Diverse, typical 70s folk-rock, raw singing. Beautiful album.

The Gilmore Girls intro song is on this album hell yeah. I was gonna give it 3 stars but I love Gilmore Girls so I gave it 4.

This was gorgeous. Perfectly pleasant without being excessively sentimental; King's voice is a blessing to the ears.

🐣👏🏼

Classic. Favourite singer songwriter genre. Very well known.

Great album, a ton of songs I was already familiar with but didnt know who it was. "You've got a friend" and "Natural Woman". It's a good album to listen to with the family, seems like lots of generations could appreciate it.

This was fun , the piano and instrumentals were fun and the songs were catchy. Musi man ship shines and Carole’s voice holds up

It was decent as far as folk albums go. It's just not my genre but it was the best of its genre. The amount of classics that came off of this is OUTSTANDING.

Solid work

Sesame street

Had heard so many of the songs on here as covers. Was good to finally hear the original. Also a cat on the album cover? That gets a thumbs up from me.

Beautiful album

I was hit with a bit of nostalgia while listening, both because there are a few songs on here that I have heard several times growing up but also because of how ethereal this album feels. It is otherwordly, melancholic, and soothing. The piano has a strong presence throughout many of the tracks.

Thoughts before listening: I know this is one of the best selling album from the 80s and that its full of hits. I am sure I will recognize a lot of these songs, but I don't believe I have heard the full album before. I'm expecting singer songwriter music that leans heavily on folk and soft rock sounds. Review: Maybe this is my age showing, but you know what? This is pretty good. Its definitely soft rock, which typically isn't my favorite, but this has a very nice, jazziness to the music courtesy of the piano. Add in some sax solos and slow songs full of soulful emotion, and I'm enjoying myself quite a bit. 4-stars

Like a big hug. Super pleasant to listen to, but it’s not without a few slightly more boring “skips.” Big fan though. Faves: - I Feel the Earth Move - So Far Away - It's Too Late - Where You Lead - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

A classic album. There are times it steers close to being Easy Listening, but there is pure class in both the writing and performing. There's a reason it's been in Top 100 Albums lists for 50-ish years.

Some serious bangers on this one.

Tapestry is everything it says to be, providing the listener with a good selection of soulful piano ballads, a couple well paced rock songs and an unmistakable early 1970's charm that is difficult to replicate. Carole King brings out her majestic and mature vocal abilities to paint a beautiful picture with sentimental and nostalgic lyrics. Recommended on atmosphere alone. 3.5/5 rounded up to a 4/5

Very good stuff. Not my vibe, but a great sound throughout, consistent Elenor loves this album

I knew who Carole King was. I have heard some of the songs. Never listened to the full album before. She is an excellent song writer. This is hard to rate, because it is very good, but not really my thing. It doesn't meet my criteria for a 4, but a 3 feels like I am short changing her talent. So I will break my normal scoring system, and bump this up to a 4.

This album is a bit of a record collecting cliche, so it's strange that this is my first time sitting down to listen to it in full. It's a solid piece of early 70s soft rock. There are a lot of songs you will recognise. King was clearly a gifted writer. It's got a relaxed vibe, I can imagine lounging about with my partner listening to this on a slow Sunday morning. I have one criticism, that relaxed vibe is just too consistent. By the beginning of side 2 all the songs start to blend together, until Smackwater Jack provides a much needed shot of Energy. Overall I enjoyed it much more than I expected.

8/10 One of the most consistently great albums on this list. Carole King has plenty of different ways to show her art to her audience. The first half showing her passionate side to her lover, while the second being more eclectic, but similar topics. Glad she switched up her style as it could’ve gotten stale. Favorite Tracks: I Feel the Earth Move, Tapestry, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

A lot of hits on this. Great songwriter. Unique voice. Stand out song - you've got a friend

The Good: We are being treated to some good ol’ fashioned arts and crafts! The Bad: Nobody checked to see if the tapestry had mites in them… The Ugly: The many scratched sores I have on my arm now… What? Did I just call this album old? Guess I did… What I did not (yet) call this album was great, which it sure as heck is. As many other commentators, there are so many known songs on this album, it is scary to realize how important Mrs King has been for modern music. During the day, I ended up playing this album 3 times, mainly due to the fact that I was too focused on a project that has a deadline three days ago, and I was too lazy to even click a saved album, or favorite playlist on the spotify… After three listens, you start to feel a little tired… which, I guess, is what easy listening music will do to you. Still, the dame deserves credit where credit is due, and I want to make sure that, once I finished this journey, I will find this album back on the 4+* list I am keeping. Good job Carole!!!!

What a legend. It's impossible to hate on Carole King. Her music, lyrics, playing style are all so sincere. I love the blues, soul and folk influences here. She kind of takes it her own direction and carrys on a deep American tradition. I was thinking "who else plays music like this now??" And then I remembered Adele. Adele is 2020s Carole King. Which is great, because they both have such killer and unique styles.

Not my thing at all - but this is clearly a great album by a super talented artist. Superb songwriting and musicianship. Some very famous songs on here. Title track a bit of a dud though.

Folk music, but a bit more upbeat. Very enjoyable.

This is quite lovely. I never knew Carole King wrote 'You Got a Friend' and 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow?' and they both appear on this album. 4.5

Tapestry has some thoughtful songwriting that rarely loses its grip on the listener; King is always engaging in her lyrical work and dynamic accompaniment. I also love her voice; it’s powerful and unpolished and that adds to the authenticity of the music. I liked the whole album and loved half of the tracks, so I say it’s a success as a whole piece. My favorites were: It’s too late So far away Beautiful Tapestry Natural woman

Carole King is a great songwriter, and it shows in the number of staying hits on this album--even those that were popularized by other artists like Aretha Franklin. There were a few moments where I thought that a song might've been better served by a different vocalist. Some of the heavier songs would've benefited from a more powerful belter in my opinion. That's more personal preference than a criticism, though. King's voice is still great and doesn't detract from any of the performances.

WAUW! Great album! Sort of greatest Hits!

Very lovely album!! Really love the Aretha Franklin cover at the end (good timing bc we just got her album a few days ago AND I just watched the Blues Brothers)

So many hits in here! Very lovely!

Quite enjoyed this, but the best songs on it are the covers and they’re not better than the originals. It’s Too Late and You’ve Got a Friend were decent though

Fair play she wrote some big tunes.

I quite enjoyed this. I recognised a few of the songs, which surprised me.

This made me feel like a natural woman, don’t tell the TERFs.

Surprisingly the first time I've listened to this the whole way through. I get why it is a classic although it's not really for me.

great album start to finish.

4.2/truly has some bangers tbh. vinyl in collection.

Really a fantastic album start to finish. Amazing voice and great songwriting. Instrumentally it’s pretty average but I would recommend this to anyone. Is it a perfect 5? No. Would I listen to it again? Absolutely.

Sonorità molto classiche e belle

Easy, easy, easy listening. It took me a couple songs to get into it, but then was really hooked on this one. It's a shame there isn't a half star rating, because this is a true 4.5/5. Almost 5.

This is nice.

Not quite my kind of music, but very surprised by how many songs I already knew enough to sing along with. So many hits. Still had some forgettable songs mixed in that made it not start to finish great.

Great lyrics

Undeniable classic

4.5 stars but not a 5 which remains reserved for legendary albums. This is a great great album though.

difficult to talk about an album as universal as this one. by far the most notable thing Carole King did as a lead artist and not without merit. folksy and comforting, this is probably the peak of soft rock. deserves to be one of the 1001? for sure

Tapestry is woven with a comfortable feel, vibrant color, and skilled craftsmanship. The album starts out with a “greatest hits” threefer and continues on a hot streak. The covers of You’ve Got A Friend by JT and Where You Lead by Streisand were bigger hits than the originals but 9 of 12 tracks are more than recognizable from 70’s radio play. The title cut Tapestry is the weakest song on the album which makes us wonder why it was selected for the title. Very strong finish with Natural Woman. Great vocals throughout. An album this solid as a sophomore effort would be difficult to top in the rest of a career. L = (3.5*s) A bit folksie by today’s standards but enjoyed the listen. J = (4.6*s) Have heard most of these songs before, but first time hearing this album start to finish. Impressive.

It's 4.5, a reasonable 5 shout, maybe just a bit too boring?

This is a fun, pretty record. I don't find Carole King as compelling as Joni Mitchell or Joan Baez, but even being compared to them is a great honor.

4.3/5 A sweet sound, great vocals, and solid album all the way through.

Not typically my style (more my parents) but I knew more songs than I thought and enjoyed it.

Pleasantly surprised. Recognized a few songs that have been popular samples by DJs and hip hop artists. Really interesting musically

Mellow, but very fun and the melodies are catchier than expected. Very easy to listen to overall.

Not necessarily my cup of tea but gotta give respect where it’s due. Great songwriter and voice. Surprised how much of this I recognized which is a credit to Ms. King.

Amazing lyrically while also being simple musically in the best way. Classic album

Carole King is a masterful tunesmith. On this album, she proves this very fact by showing that even in relatively stripped-back form, her songs are some of the most memorable and enjoyable of the entire soul pop genre. That being said, I sometimes wish this album transcended its being just a collection of very pleasant tunes. The structure isn't all that cohesive, and there aren't any real gut punches - which in large part isn't helped by the kind of generic lyrics. But hey, it's still a very nice ride which will please anyone and their neighbours, so who am I to complain?

Surprisingly enjoyable 7/10

i like it

Legendarisk Singer/songwriter covers, folket

Great album. First time listen, will listen again

A classic from start to finish.

No private session used for this one. Turns out I was listening to a classic, I knew most of these songs from my childhood and throughout my life. Lovely voice, brilliant piano, and sweet lyrics.

Really pretty album

Man, the Brill Building was bursting with talent at the time Carole King and Burt Bacharach and Neil Diamond and Paul Simon and so many others were working/being tortured to produce hits there. Carole King is an incredible songwriter and she has a very expressive (if not traditionally strong) voice. I think Tapestry is deservedly ranked among the greatest albums of all time even though it is not one of my personal favorites.

So many great songs on here. Lots I didn't realize Carole King wrote.

A welcome reprieve from the 70's piano cock rock that dominates this infuriating list. Timeless and funky, and Carole King has a lovely voice and great vocal control. Gets a 3, because the piano does not belong in a rock song. Cat on the cover bumps this to a 4.

Riiiichtig schönes Album ☺️

Great voice. Good songs. But also a lot of the same.

Fantastic stuff, just so easy to listen to. Some huge hits including Feel the Earth Move and Natural Woman. Not much to say really because it’s lovely. (4.5 stars)

carole queen

I Feel the Earth Move and So Far Away were fantastic. Some songs just really didn't catch my attention.

Great album

Turns out I know every song on here despite never listening to this album as a whole before

Whoah, I didn't realize how many Carole King songs I knew

I grew up with this album. I love her voice on this, and her piano playing. Solid album.

Pretty darn good

#1 love that cat on the album cover flute outro on so far away is ridiculously somber way over yonder! standout track for me ~~~ will be grading the remaining 1000 recods against this one. not the pinnacle yet, but off to a great start

Her vocals took some getting used to for me. Very musically talented woman. She articulates well which is a plus. 4 stars

Didn't realize how many songs I would recognize from this album, despite not recognizing the artist immediately! The Gilmore Girls theme song was there, how fun. Also You've Got a Friend which I swear I've played so many times in my head when I was young. As well as It's Too Late which is a more recent find of mine.

sweet and simple, easy to the ears and overall just a complete and thematic record, has a warmth thanks to a stripped down structure. Overall an impressive feat of a record. Favorite song: its too late. Overall score: 7.9/10.

Definitely a genre defining album for Pop folk. If Taylor swift was active in the seventies.

It was pretty good, I really enjoyed the jazzy easy-listening sound of the album. The guitar was groovy with some really great arpeggios and some bluesy leads. Lyrically it is a bit underwhelming and, just by it's own influence, cliche. Would listen again, but will not be a mainstay of my listening. Standouts: "It's Too Late" which features a beautiful saxophone and guitar solo "Way over Yonder" has a beautiful bass line, nice rhythm and great bits of piano/lead guitar flare. "You have got a friend" was a favourite song of my mother, I think? It makes me feel really sad, actually, it is really nice but I now want to be hold. "Smackwater Jack" has a really great hook that I love to bits, very nice blues rhythm going on in the guitar and some tasty leads.

Chad. Cute kitty.

Very chad so far away is amazing 4.5

Mycket bra album.

I’ve never listened to a Carole King album all the way through, let alone had any of her songs on my playlists, yet I still found a lot of these songs to be very familiar. Ton of classics on here.

Incredible, vulnerable, powerful, heartwarming.

Lovely album, knew more songs than I thought

A good oldie with some great peak songs. A natural woman is still probably my favorite. It's very easy to listen to from start to end.

A rediscovery. One of those ones with multiple songs you know and like but wouldn't necessarily know the artist. Very pleasant listening.

Like the album title suggests, Carole King provides a rich tapestry of her musical and singing prowess. There is a beautiful softness in these songs, but don't be fooled - there's a sharp bite in her lyrical messaging just beneath the surface.

1. I Feel the Earth Move 2. Beautiful 3. It's Too Late 4. Will You Love Me Tomorrow? 5. You've Got a Friend 6. So Far Away 7. Where You Lead 8. (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman 9. Smackwater Jack 10. Home Again 11. Tapestry 12. Way Over Yonder

Warm and fun, with amazing singing, songwriting, playing and production. Very enjoyable album.

Great album front to back, storytelling is strong, music is catchy while being original and honest

Like a lot of people my age, these songs remind me of my mom. Very nice tunes that I thought FOR SURE some of were covers, but nope, she wrote all of them (even if they were originally released by another artist). It's kind of crazy how ubiquitous some of these songs are STILL.

Lovely

Grew on me and gets a Gilmore Girls bonus

Lots of hits and raw delivery. Really complete album. I Feel the Earth Move was the song they'd play at the earthquake exhibit at OMSI, so this album has been in my mind since I was really young.

Aw yeah I fuck with some Carole King. She wrote some of the best songs in past 50 years. A true artist, and this album showcases that. Hit after hit baby.

Gotta love people calling these songs covers.

Wow, so many classics on one album, amazing

Growing up, Tapestry was always playing in the background of my childhood. My mom loved this album, she’d hum along while making dinner, tap the steering wheel in time on long drives listening to the 8 track, and close her eyes during "You’ve Got a Friend", like she was remembering something only she knew. I didn’t fully get it then, but listening now, I understand why this record meant so much to her. Carole King’s voice is warm and familiar, like someone singing just for you. The songs are simple but hit deep—“So Far Away” carries that ache of missing someone, “I Feel the Earth Move” still has that fiery groove, and “It’s Too Late” tells a breakup story with the kind of honesty that feels lived-in. Even “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”, a song I once shrugged off as just one of my mom’s favorites, now feels like pure magic. Listening to Tapestry today, I hear more than just the music. I hear my mom singing along in the kitchen. I hear the scratch of the record player. I hear a piece of my childhood. And I get why this album never left her collection—it’s not just music, it’s comfort, memory, and life itself woven into every note.

This is a beautiful record and to my surprise I just knew all the covers of the song by other artists but not Carole King herself. I was far more engaged than I expected because these songs just seem so well composed, perhaps at bit to safe but overall they're super varied but have a strong cohesion. I'll probably come back to it once the sun shines through my windows again.

Great album definitely a great listen

I, like many others before me, saw this album not for the monument it was before diving in. It's lusciously full of emotion and wit. I enjoy the covered songs but feel the most expression is in delivering her own material. Brings you mentally to Laurel Canyon where her picture sits

An essential “moms who grew up in the 70s” album. Something that got a lot of plays on the family stereo, I reckon.

Decent album, some of the songs are really classics.

MUITO bom papo reto

eu gosto muito de popzinho dos anos 70 lindo demais vai tomar no cuuuuuuuu a produção desse aqui é muito bem feita papo reto. it's too late é PEDRADAÇA! bom demais!

album #1: tapestry by carole king i'm not familiar with this artist or her music but first impressions are that i really love her voice, it sounds quite powerful but also carries a lot of emotion it really isn't what i would typically choose to listen to but i quite like it, though i do admit it can sound a bit basic or generic at times but it is quite enjoyable to listen to

Soulful. A warm hug. Music for spring cleaning, or a rainy day. Fav tracks: I Feel the Earth Move, It's Too Late, Where You Lead

I was born early enough for this album to be in my parents' music collection, but not early enough to have heard it overplayed to death. I was much more familiar with James Taylor's recording of "You've Got a Friend" than Carole King's original. that tends to be the case with King; her legacy as a songwriter has arguably outlasted her work as a solo artist, given just how many other artists have recorded iconic versions of her songs. for some reason, it feels like Tapestry is usually discussed as something that came and went. comedians use Carole King as shorthand to evoke the past. but let's not forget that people bought Tapestry like it was going out of style! it's one of the ten best-selling albums by a female solo artist in the US, where it's gone went 14x Platinum. it charted on the Billboard 200 for 300 weeks straight. it won four Grammys, with Taylor's cover of "You've Got a Friend" winning a fifth. these are impressive accomplishments for any artist, woman or not, and they come with a host of really compelling songs to boot. if you're not into soft rock, Tapestry probably won't convert you, but there's not better examples to be found. King and her session band play these songs with a quiet fire, a refreshing sense of clarity, that makes the music very approachable. unlike other soft-on-the-ears albums I've listened to for this challenge, I get a lot out of the compositions themselves. there's just a hint of jazz or something show tune-y in there, something that keeps each song feeling just a little unpredictable. wish I could pet that cat. light 8/10.

Did not realize going into this album that there were soooo many of the tracks I already knew. I could probably do half the tracks at karaoke. Very 70s folky pop. I like her voice.

Iconic album and I would give 5 stars but some the lyrics just haven’t aged well. “Where You Lead” in particular just doesn’t work in this day and age.

Definitely a classic and one of the best selling albums of all time for a reason. I personally don't throw it on a ton, but no denying its greatness

-the epitome of IGA Grocery Store PA Music. -what was going in the 70's that there was so many folk/soul/love songs?? Revival time? _Natural Woman is everyone.

Her talent as a songwriter — remember, she began working in the Brill Building writing famous songs like "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" as a teenager — is undeniable. This is obviously a major touchstone of the 70s singer-songwriter genre, and it helped define the sound of that decade. Also, I'll take her version of "You've Got a Friend" any day over James Taylor, who makes me cringe.

Many bangers, could use more percussion though (jk)

Half (or more) of these records' ratings reflect their association with my dad. But this is one of Mom's faves. And it's a classic.

Holy crap. I always assumed CK was like a proto Dianne Warren and never took her seriously. Turns out she's Harry Nilsson without the dying young part. Even "natural woman", a great song where Aretha's version is near perfect, sounds good and fresh. Im sorry to have dismissed this lp for decades because it is near flawless. Docking star for sax parts/solo in Way over yonder that did not need to exist.

Not sure what's to say about this one. I think everyone is familiar with Carole's body of work. Amazing songwriter.

Not my genre but songwriting unparalleled. An extraordinary talent. Hard to believe one person wrote these songs in a lifetime never mind on one album.

It's a challenge to rate something with so many iconic songs when those songs really can't hold my interest today. My enjoyment level is like a 2 or 3, but my redirect level is a clear 5. I guess I'm split the difference.

Don’t really like the old sound, but it is relaxing and well paced

What even is a natural woman?

A classic. Not my favorite, but very listenable nevertheless.

Iconic

Great stuff!

Carole King's Tapestry was a lightning in a bottle moment, the validation of a type of female songwriter who is allowed to be resolute yet vulnerable under one cloth; the triumph of an industry lifer who wound up changing the American musical composition rulebook with songs that touched upon the very being of the self. It is not a surprise to know that Tapestry is a much regarded effort, for its fingerprints are still embedded in what we hear today. Favorites: I Feel the Earth Move, It's Too Late, Home Again, Beautiful, You've Got a Friend, Will You Love Me Tomorrow?, Smackwater Jack, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.

crazy how every single song on this album became a classic. what’s there to say really? this album is so engrained in the culture that it’s frankly kind of hard to see it clearly. or maybe it’s just engrained in my life, who knows. great album

From a seat on the windowsill, a bejumpered Carole gazes back at us – we’ve interrupted her reverie, but that’s ok. She’ll tell us what she’s been thinking about. A problem shared is a problem halved, and this record doesn’t scrimp on problems. Nor does it scrimp on quality; what’s here is perhaps the neatest distillation of Carole King’s genius available. The song craft, the choices, the melodies, ideas and lyrics that ought to have existed forever – and in a way did, in so far as they perfectly capture something common through human history. It’s a melancholy affair, and the whole thing – from the palette of the album art, to the slightly dusty feel of the mix – amounts to a thorough exploration of our collective autumnal soul. That bit we have that’s caught; that enjoyed the light and warmth of all before but feels it, inexorably, cooling. Carole takes us there and keeps us there. Her characters are always somehow doubting something – never whole, and careful not to totally let themselves feel so. They’re either busy configuring themselves around another’s affections or intentions, or basking in the edifying glow (albeit temporarily, cautiously) of an other’s unbroken gaze. It is to our eternal lack, the bit that wants to know for sure, that “Tapestry” is addressed. And for the simple fact that none of us is ever fated to fill it, be glad that we have a friend.

-crisp vocals -VERY catchy

Solid. I like her voice, like the rollicking piano and the clever lyrics. Earth move is the best.

An excellent album, I really enjoyed so much of this easy to listen to but emotive album. I hadn’t heard Carole King before, but knew some of the hits from the album - but the overall album was great!

I went into this album thinking it was going to be Carly Simon, but I was mistaken. Enjoyed this though.

Man, the opening track of this album brought be straight back to road trips in the way way back of a 1971 Volvo wagon. But as the hits faded into the deeper cuts of the album, it was just a solid blues rock album front to back. Some tracks reminded me of Janis Joplin in their sincerity of delivery (Way Over Yonder). I couldn't help shake my "this is cheese" bias (Will You Love Me Tomorrow), but I'm liking this way more than I anticipated.

Beautiful voice, so talented and musical. A breath of fresh air amidst the overriding male BO of most albums on this list. Having said that, I wouldn’t listen again, as it’s not quite my style. But a 4 at least.

Gotta love her. Nostalgic. I like Joni better but this was a great album.

Not my thing

what a beautiful album !! in love in love in love !!! "it's too late" is a gem !

Not sure why I like this so much. Found out my mom listened to this record so much that she actually destroyed it. Perhaps it is generational.

Quaint little album, production didn't sound crazy which led to its simplicity, no complaints on this album. I'd give a 3.5 if possible, will round to 4 since it was a nice listen.

Great songs, ok voice.

Carole King, the OG singer/songwriter’s masterpiece. Soft, intimate Tapestry is somehow full of bangers, the opener I Feel the Earth Move, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, the list goes on. These are some of the most famous songs of all time. Replace the piano with guitar and it would be near the top of my list 8.0/10

Sounds really nice and was well paced between soft ballads and catchy songs

Höjdpunkterna(”It’s Too Late”, ”Where You Lead”(!!!), ”Way Over Yonder”, ”A Natural Woman”) är så utomordentligt starka att man lätt glömmer hur en del av låtarna är något torra och lite mycket prototyppoppianoballadesque-iga.

Imagine being a) a tabby named Telemachus, and b) being privy to this masterwork coming together

I Feel the Earth Move So Far Away (with James Taylor on guitar) It's Too Late You've Got a Friend (recorded and released that same year by James Taylor) Will You Love Me Tomorrow? (originally released by The Shirelles in 1960) (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman (music by Carole King, lyrics by Jerry Wexler, originally recorded by Aretha Franklin in 1967) I really like her piano playing style.

I’d heard of her name but didn’t realise she’d written so much!

I didn’t realize she sang some of these classics.

Wow surprise winner. So many classic songs!

Didn’t realise the classic songs from this album. Adding to iPod as a chilled album to kick back and listen to on a Sunday afternoon

A perfect album for a rainy Sunday afternoon

Great album, but for some reason I’m just not into Carole King. It’s my loss, really. I did enjoy almost everything on this, not a fan of Tapestry, but everything else was really good. It’s just not my thing.

Lovely

beautiful

This was really good and enjoyed this a lot. A lot of great songs here that I added to my playlist. Great vocals and instrumentals. I will definitely return to this.

An album that you know before you’ve even listened to it. Classic, classic, classic, her songwriting is up there with the very best. The first half is impeccable but I found the second half just ‘great’ and it didn’t quite move my heart to a 5, even if my head was almost convinced after one listen. Home Again is perhaps a little lesser known among the many-times-covered hits here but it’s an absolutely wonderful song that I listened to over and over again.

Jest sporo utworów, do których bardzo chętnie wrócę ("I Feel The Earth Move", "It's Too Late", "Home Again", "You've Got a Friend", "A Natural Woman"), a i reszty chętnie posłucham przy okazji. Będę wracał.

Hell yeah this album was really good. Carole King has a lovely voice, and I dig the instrumentation a lot. An 8 or 9

niceeee

Old classics, pretty good

#476. There's some pretty good stuff going on over here. 4/5: good, good.

One banger after another, with a couple weak ones in the last third of the album. King has a way of putting words with music that makes the song flow as naturally feelings and words do inside your own head.

An album full of instantly recognizable, comforting tracks. Minus one star because I was missing an element of surprise.

Just a lovely album

Very well produced and performed singer songwriter fare.

Hits, soft love

some good stuff, hearty. great songwriting

Epitome of a singer-songwriter

This is not my thing, but you can't deny this is greatness.

It's not exactly my jam, but what an iconic collection of classic songs.

an album full of iconic hits, especially for the girls. 💖

I Feel the Earth Move is just a wonderful opener. I don't feel like the rest of the album quite live up to that first song, although I did enjoy Tapestry quite a bit. Overall still a great listening experience.

Absolutely incredible from start to finish.

Pop type shit loved the production and got me kinda inspired unexpectedly

There’s something about this album that feels so timeless. It has a sound/vibe that feels like it could’ve been from 5-10 years ago. I expected it to be front loaded just because of how strong those first three songs were but even the back half has you’ve got a friend, where you lead, and you make me feel. Interesting to learn about you make me feel like, I didn’t know she originally helped write this song for Aretha. Obviously her voice isn’t as strong as hers but I think she does an awesome job in making it her own. Loved having this album on a Friday where I could actually listen to it twice this weekend. (Also I always get Carole King/Carly Simon mixed up. If I’ve told you that Carole king was married to James Taylor then I apologize ((it’s Carly Simon)) cuz I know I’ve told people that before. But it makes sense why I was confused cuz Carole and James were good friends and he actually plays guitar and background vocals on this album and obvs covers you’ve got a friend later this year)

I like

A pretty fantastic set of songs He only thing you could hold against it is a lack of variety but that’s a small complaint

Easy to listen mix of songwritting depth and fun

This album is truly like a warm hug. Each song is inviting, pleasant, and easy to listen to, while still maintaining lovely, rich vocals and captivatingly poetic lyrics. In terms of vocals, Carole King doesn't show particularly outstanding vocal range or vocal power, but it doesn't matter. She has an ease and a comfort about her voice that is more than enough to evoke the emotions of the songs; she knows her material and she knows how to convey it with emotion. Speaking of the "material" of this album, King's songwriting really is noteworthy here. She is great at painting vocal pictures in a very down-to-earth but meaningful way. A few of these songs were made much more popular by other artists who saw something worth singing about in these songs. That said, King holds her own on these tracks popularized by other artists; songs like "You've Got A Friend", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" still have their own subtle brilliance that only Carole King can bring to them. Last, the piano work on this album is worth mentioning. Of all the instrumentation, it is what shines through the most. The piano perfectly complements King's vocals; it's a lovely standout. Simply put, this album is just gently captivating. Definitely a worthy addition!

Really good music, just one or two songs that didnt do it for me.

This album just keeps producing hit after hit. Jam packed soulful pop album that would be welcome in any persons record collection. An album I certainly would not mind owning. Very close to 5 stars

Drum roll. First female artist since Fiona Apple 20 albums ago [suggestive pause here]. I know this! Quite some of it. Makes me want to order Cheers: the Complete Series or something, brew a tea, roll a joint and watch that. Nice and cozy.

classic songs

Very good

Not my style but she's a legend. One of the few artists I can remember hearing over my parents' car radios back in the 70s.

An incredibly consistent compendium of King’s songwriting and probably the epitome of the ‘fun’ singer-songwriter genre. Relatively simple yet always compelling in its lyricism, Tapestry mixes the tremendously boppy with songs like I Feel the Earth Move and Smackwater Jack and the classic, effective ballads such as You’ve Got a Friend. It’s a feat in itself to have an album that can stand out in the blockbuster year for popular music that was 1971 - and this deserves its place among the classics.

Not my music and it was a bit too slow at times but it kept me interested throughout and the quality is undeniable

Beautiful ballads full of love and feeling. An almost gospel vibe in some parts. I can just see all the middle aged white ladies lettin loose to this while working around the house, and you know what I’m right their with them

this is why i am doing this project, to finally get a chance to listen to these old iconic albums that everyone else seems to know. i really enjoyed this! i’ve obviously heard of carole king before and i knew a few songs from this album, especially ‘where you lead’ from gilmore girls. a really lovely album all around full of hits and beautiful songs.

This is true easy listening but not in a bad way”doctors office” way. The lyrics, voice and melodies mix together for a pleasant and easy and enjoyable experience.

Stark fyra!

Impeccable songwriting 👌👌

Like Grace, I had some difficulty getting my bearings. 2 1/2 times through, though, and Tapestry has landed.

I didn't realize how many songs I knew on this album. It really is an amazing and classic album!

I think this album has the best joint approval ratings from Boomer Moms and Dads. This was also one of the first piano books I ever had--Carole King is a badass...she plays really meaty chords and on most of her songs (e.g. I Feel The Earth) she's right there with the drums on driving the song. When she's in the groove her voice sounds all over the place in a great way and she finds the balance between sweetness and a good pop song. Deducting points for two songs: 1. Tapestry--despite being the name of the album this song is sacchrine and the bad version of singer-songerwriters in the 70s. It makes me feel like I'm at a Broadway show that I wanted to be over 20 minutes ago. 2. Smackwater Jack--this feels like a bad Jim Croce song

I knew the record but i was not aware of the song writting achievement. I did NOT know she wrote You've Got a Friend, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman and Will You Love Me Tomorrow. I also had not heard this soulful side of her. Very torn on a rating. For my personal taste i want to give it a 3, but for what she accomplished it is definitely deserving of a 4 or 5. Gonna flip a coin....heads, 4 stars.

Okay well I had no clue that she practically carried the 70’s with just this one album, I didn’t know that most of these songs were her, this album is awesome, only one or two songs on here that didn’t do it for me, the rest is awesome!

Loved loved loved this album, like a warm hug

Already knew “Its Too Late,” and all other songs are pretty much in the same vein. Very good album! Not necessarily something Id say Im in love with but I definitely appreciate it and I feel like its good background music. “So Far Away” is a top track.

I can see why it's a classic!

Another one that I’ve never heard of yet know all the songs! A real classic.

So many great songs on this album... had no idea Carole King composed so many well known tunes. Not sure if I would listen to the whole album again but "Where you Lead", "Natural "Woman" and "Will you love me Tomorrow?" will definitely be listened to for years to come.

Gilmore Girls✨✨✨

I weirdly knew several songs from this album w/o knowing the album or the artist. My wife's a fan too, w/o knowing her. This is a 3.5 for me, it was a nice find and i enjoyed it =)

oh man i'm so far behind oh fuck. this is a classic, although idk if it all sunk in on first listen... expected to like it a bit more...

Not my typical thing but I dig it. Her voice is great and the instrumentation compliments it perfectly. Very wholesome and welcoming.

Very very good

Is nice.

Great album. Great voice. This is a perfect example of the kind of music that was written in the days of my youth. I have no problem listening to this one over and over again.

-I had seen this album cover circulating for a while but had never actually listened to it or anything by Carole King, so had no idea what to expect. It’s absolutely lovely though. Her voice is really good and i like the range of style and structure, it kept it from feeling boring or slogging together -Favorites are I Feel The Earth Move, So Far Away, and Way Over Yonder

I enjoyed this more than I expected to. Some great songs, although I prefer covers of many of them to her originals. Just about squeezes into ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’m not sure I’ve ever listened to this album completely before, just heard the classics. And they are classics. Perfect album for listening to while chilling out in the bath.

This was a beautiful album to listen to and a reminder that music can be simple and still be amazing.

Easy listening and very soulful

carole king gets me in the nostalgia every time

I’d heard of this album being spoken about in hushed tones, easy to understand why after listening, songwriting is amazing and was surprised to discover she is the writer of some incredible songs indeed, a few I knew well, listened to this more than once and more than quite a lot of the others so far

Unbelievable! So many classics in one album. Had a lovely time listening. Incredible lyrics

compared to some of the other shit that passes for art on this list i’m inclined to give it a 5 but on the other hand it’s still not really my kind of thing so i’m only giving it a 4

Great songs. Remember many from my childhood.

"Will You Love Me Tomorrow" pour les Shirelles, "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" pour la reine Aretha Franklin, "The Loco-Motion" pour sa baby-sitter Little Eva... "I Feel the Earth Move", "It's Too Late", "You've Got a Friend".

Sounds old timey. I was surprised to read that she is the most successful female songwriter of the 20th century, because this is good, but I didn’t think it was that good. Low 4.

7/10 - Her voice is amazing and a lot of the piano and other background was pretty good. The only time I had heard of Carole King was because she had a musical called Beautiful I think. That song was not especially amazing but, overall pretty good album.

Smooth, classic album packed with songs that you just kinda know. Easy 5, except...well, I like a lot of the covers more than the originals. This isn't exactly where I spend my time. Sorry, Carole.

Great album all the way through. Beautiful voice and lyrics. Loved all the piano.

expectedly extremely nice, unexpectedly full of little pockets of sadness that u can trip over easily if ur not careful. rolling this version of make me feel like a natural woman so close to aretha's rly drives this home...king's voice is sturdy but slightly pained, and it lends a bittersweet quality to a lot of the songs that makes them feel like there are details of the surrounding story and circumstance ur missing. lots to chew on whenever i come back to this

Wow what an album 🤩 It starts off with three incredible songs. I Feel The Earth Move is an absolute blast to sing along to in the car 😂 And So Far Away and It’s Too Late are heartbreakers for me, but in the best way. I discovered Carole King when I was a teenager and I always liked her, and not just because she had a mop of unruly curly hair like I did. She’s a great songwriter with a powerful voice.

Solid record displaying Carole’s great songwriting skills. My only real qualms with it are her versions of Will You Love Me Tomorrow? and Natural Woman - which, pardon the pun feel uninspired.

Pretty chill alt old school tunes. Nice singing. Way Over Yonder is nice and has a sax solo. You've Got a Friend is also relaxing. A cover of (You make me feel) A Natural Woman is also here.
