hehe
Gister niet geluisterd omdat ik niet in de mood was deze rustige plaat. Maar ach wat is het een beauty...
Een van mijn favoriete platen. Wat een songwriter is Carole King toch. Heerlijk.
realmente bueno, aunq tmp es mucho mis vibes
I suppose listening to and liking Carole King makes you a specific kind of person. If you know and are excited by the fact that she plays a recurring character on Gilmore Girls and think that that in many ways helps define the show, that probably says something about you. If you’re not ashamed to ask Cool Record Store Guy if he has a used copy in stock. I’m 100% that guy.
What a classic! And it's a great album for headphones, the mixing is inspired.
Obviously one of the classic albums. Some absolutely terrific songs on here. Carole King is not the sort of artist I would seek out, but this album is consistently high quality.
Very enjoyable album! Pleasantly surprised to hear tracks I knew like I Feel the Earth Move and It's Too Late. It put me in a positive mood from the start and never looked back.
Classic
Love love love it
Quite good, especially towards the end with Smackwater Jack and You Make Me Feel
Sjukt mange bangers... Gode vibber hele veien gjennom så langt. Noen låter som er gode men flest låter som er dritbra. Altså wow.
Simply iconic and changed the game for female singer songwriter music
What a splendid album. The pitch-perfect production, and the retooling of songs ("Natural Woman," "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?") that previous artists had had monster hits with.
One of my favorite albums, certainly my favorite Carole King album. Had a very progressive music teacher in middle school/jr high who'd play this and have us sing all the songs. I appreciate here to this day. I'd struggle to name a favorite song so I'll say they're all my favorites.
Had no idea she wrote a couple of these songs. Loved almost every track. It's as old as me, but sounds like it could have been recorded last week. Going to visit her music shop in Stars Hollow someday.
Telemachus. That’s the cats name. This album was the soundtrack of my very early life and I realize what a blessing that truly was.
Has a warmer album ever been recorded? So many memorable tunes. Such aching.
Beautiful voice, funky mood, nothing else to say, one of the most easygoing and joyful albums
I'm always going to have some bias towards this album as my mum loves this album and I remember her playing it and singing along when I was a kid. So, it's a great album from one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th Century. It's rough around the edges and that's what makes it great - not just the strength of the songs. It's a classic for a reason. Best Tracks: I Feel the Earth Move; It's Too Late; (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
Masterpiece. 5/5
It's fantastic, worthy of all the praise it has showered on it. Favourite tracks being probably I Feel the Earth Move, You've got a Friend and Smackwater Jack, but honestly it's great front to back. The easiest listening easy listening album of all time, potentially. 5 stars. I want that cat.
At the time of writing this review, the global score on here stands at 3.9. Lets get that up to a 4! This is such a delightful album start to finish, like a warm cozy blanket with a fire going nearby, maybe a hot cup of tea, but preferably a hot toddy. People may make the suggestion this is essentially a greatest hits record for Carole King, but I'd argue it's the greatest hits of '71. As a whole, this is a damn near perfect album.
I think its very hard to fault. Well written songs. Half of them are now classic standards. Great voice. Well played. Produced well. 5
Love it, so many classics.
If this album wasn't the soundtrack of my life I don't know how much I would like it. But as it is, the sonorous sounds, beautiful voice, lively melodies and timeless lyrics have been present in so many joyous moments. I love every song on this album.
100/100
One of the best singer-songwriters ever. Several of the songs presented here are so amazing that they have been covered by some of the biggest names in music
Bloody brilliant album. Enjoyed it on the first listen. Loved it on the second.
5/5 To begin an album with a masterpiece of a song like I Feel the Earth Move is a luxury not many artists can enjoy. But Carol King's exceptional writing and performance on this feel-good track are not commonplace. The following track So Far Away is a tender ballad full of feeling, before It's Too Late's danceable groove slaps, the chord progressions working perfectly. Home Again shows off King's vocal chops, and is another song with amazing piano parts, whereas Beautiful is just a well written and structured song which builds and winds around brilliantly. I love the deliberate slowness of Way Over Yonder, and the vocals are just other-worldly. Amazing song. On the second side, You've Got a Friend is so beautiful and instrumentally layered so well, and the catchy, poppy Where You Lead feels fantastic. I love Will You Love Me Tomorrow? so much. The bridge is definitely a highpoint for the album. Smackwater Jack has such a great feel it honestly challenges the opener for my favourite track, and the feel of the title track's trippy electric piano is exceptional also. King's lyricism is possibly at its peak here. Finally, unfortunately, we reach the finish line with A Natural Woman, an iconic soulful tune which works brilliantly as a closer. I Feel the Earth Move 5/5 (FAV) So Far Away 4.5/5 (LEAST FAV) It's Too Late 5/5 Home Again 5/5 Beautiful 5/5 Way Over Yonder 5/5 You've Got a Friend 5/5 Where You Lead 5/5 Will You Love Me Tomorrow? 5/5 Smackwater Jack 5/5 Tapestry 5/5 (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman 5/5
An incredible album that shines lyrically as it does Instrumentally. I would recommend the album especially for those who are fans Elton John's music.
Wybitny album. Nie ma złych utworów. Otula i uspakaja. Głos Carol jest piękny, teksty są wnikliwe, melodie zostają w sercu na długo. Więcej takich płyt poproszę. 10/10
a classic
Great songs, I mostly remember them being sung by other people and like those versions slightly better, but an impressive songwriter so I’ll give it a 5
Stunning, raw, contemporary, a true gem. Foundational songwriter turned expressive singer of her own stories.
I recognize so many of these songs and have no idea from where - definitely some by other artists. So much beauty in this album, but also catchiness. Really good all the way through. I would definitely listen to this again, and did not realize how influential Carole King was.
Wow! I knew a handful of the songs but had no idea that I would before going into it. I never associated any of the songs with the others, which is crazy because in the context of the album they fit so well together. There are so many songs that can stand on their own, but the album itself is awesome all together. Surprise 5! Great job Carole!
Snow day album! One of the best three-song intros to an album we’ve had so far. This album is always in the conversation for best album ever and for very good reason. So many hits and something that can be played at any moment and still be a crowd pleaser. Easy five stars.
Wow! I was not expecting that! A really powerful album that somehow feels big and intimate at the same time. It's produced beautifully. The limited use of backing instruments and vocals makes you finding yourself slipping back and forth from feeling like you're in a massive auditorium to sitting right next to Carole King at the piano. Her voice is powerful, but also feels warming and cozy. I feel like I'm sitting in the same room as a woman, her piano, and her cat. I've heard a bunch of these songs before, but I never knew they were all by the same person, much less on the same album. "I Felt The Earth Move" feels like one of those songs that has always existed, and it's not even the biggest song on here. Awesome album that I'll be keeping an eye out to grab on vinyl. Shout out to Gilmore Girls!
Love the piano singer songwriter presentation. This album greats you with hit after hit. And doesn’t let up. Even the b sides are amazing.
Traditionally speaking, Carole King isn't a vocal prowess. She isn't like Aretha Franklin or other women artists from the late sixties and early seventies. What she lacks, she makes up for in spades with how emotive her voice is. Two of her biggest songs, "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?", are more famous sung by Franklin and the Shirelles. But she sings these songs in her own way, perhaps how she initially thought they would sound, and damn does it pack a punch. She brings more emotion to both of these songs--and the slower tempo of "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" absolutely destroys me. That's what makes her music so unique. King's career trajectory is fascinating to me, and I just love how she's first and foremost a songwriter. That title is what allows her songs to be so personal and resonate. Like, who else could have come up with "Beautiful" or "You've Got A Friend"? Her songs have the capacity to become iconic, personal anthems. None of these songs are skippable, and King has the ability to make each one hit everybody's heart if they're listening. Carole King's Tapestry is one in a million and one of the most deserving albums on this entire list.
I somehow have never heard this one. I get the hype. This is a really great album. Her voice is restrained, but effort is placed exactly where it needs to be. The songwriting is great. The piano and guitar work are particular standouts. This album is cozy and warm.
Incredible album.
Wow. This album opens with a bang and just continues to keep you in a trance. The vocal performance is carefully crafted, down to the backing vocals. The musicianship surrounding it are second to none, all the choices seem so intentional and important. The production is excellent, thank you Lou, this many years later it still sounds incredible on sub par headphones. A new classic in my house.
now THIS is an influential album!
Wonderful voice and lovely music.
This is nice
Calm music, I really love it. It's like something to listen to while you are staring out at the sunset. Her lyrics are really nice too.
Talented song writer ❤️
Every song is amazing
one of my favorite albums of all time by one of the greatest singer songwriters of all time. every song is perfect.
Iconic. Classic. Perfection. Could listen to this every day.
An album I admit that when it was released I avoided like the plague and would vocally dismiss it has your mums and dads music. At that time big rock prog groups were the only thing I thought worthwhile so closed my ears to anything I thought inferior. However, it didn’t take long for me to begin to take an interest. This largely coincided with my interest in the opposite sex and the teenage angst of falling in love and breakups. This album is full of songs which I could relate to when going through all these dramas. So I became very familiar with every song on this album and each one holds very happy and sad memories. I have played this record constantly throughout my life and consider it a masterpiece not only has a soundtrack to my life but also sublime musicianship. Good as it is I would not put it anywhere near my all time Top 20 albums. I consider it more like a pair of comfy old slippers. Very familiar, taking away any built up stress, and like the album cover, a lovely warm feeling knowing all is well. 5/5 30/12/24
she is the goat so
5 I thought this album only had a few AMAZING songs, but I was wrong! Every song on the album is amazing and I am going to go and buy a vinyl for myself.
I have no idea why I haven't heard this before. Of course I have heard many of the individual tracks, some of them performed by others because let's not forget King has writing credits on ALL of them. I like her voice. The songs are wonderful. This gets a 5/5. I give 5s sparingly. This is only the 3rd in 54 albums and the only 5 that has gone to something I haven't owned for years.
Great album with some absolute classics
Perfect
This is a great record with some really incredible singing. We’ve had a few lady singers that seemed to be trying to create this kind of a record and who all fell a bit short (KT Tunstall, Dusty Baker) - this is the real deal. This also happens to be a favourite of my mother’s and it’s hard not to cherish my childhood memories when I hear it.
Tapestry was a lovely album to listen to, full of hope and love and friendship. I would definitely listen to this album again. Carole feels like a mom who I’d want to hug.
Carole is a GOAT. Enough said.
WHERE YOU LEAD
If you are looking for a candidate to carve into your Mt. Rushmore of singer-songwriters, you could do worse than Carole King. https://open.substack.com/pub/richcain/p/project-1001-tapestry-by-carole-king?r=4ztyq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false
I guess nobody can say that they have never heard at least one of these songs. This is truly an amazing album. King is way above all other so-called singer-songwriters. Her talent for all-time classics is amazing.
Follow up Steely Dan they said… I never intentionally listened to Carole King before. Thid blew me away. Love the vocals and songwriting. Love the guitar - acoustic and electric. And the sax. This has it all. Really enjoyed Way Over Yonder and Smackwater Jack (and all the others).
I love this album. Something about Carole king’s voice just gets me. It’s just bluesy enough while also sounding a bit like a suburban mom. Also the interplay between her jazzy chording and the booming simple bass lines creates a full, unique sound. The idea that she ever had to ask someone ‘will you still love me in morning’ fills me with righteous indignation. Is it sexist that everytime I like a female musician I basically fall in love with her?
Fantastic! Ive definitely heard a bunch of cuts off of this, but there were a handful of surprises. I loved the James Taylor cover (which if Apple Music serves me right, JT plays on), You Make Me Feel and Tapestry were surprises to me Gotta love the hits here too - Its Too Late and I Feel The Earth Move are fucking jams.
Catching up on reviews so don't have time to rhapsodize, but boy would I like to. What a great album. A 10-years belated thanks to Frank for introducing this album to me when we lived in New York. Pretty sure Sean is a Carole King stan so very excited to read his review of this album. This has been a fucking hell of a week of albums. Makes it all worth it to put up with all the weeks where we have Pere Ubu and Fela Kuti
A one of a kind singer-songwriter. This album gets the fivest of fives.
what a beautiful album, yet another reason why I love this list, I can endure seemingly endless (shite) Radiohead albums for diamonds like this.
Love it
Fantastic album full of blue-eyed soul, magnetic piano riffs, and classics that have been covered and sampled by so many. Carole King is a legend and an incredible songwriter. 5/5
listening to this album is like hearing a soundtrack for my childhood. i didn't know how prevalent carole king was in pop culture until this.
My childhood in one album.
Rock setentero suave. Ni sé la de megahits que tiene... Un 5 claro.
I Feel the Earth Move, It's Too Late,Way Over Yonder, You've Got a Friend, Where You Lead,Will You Love Me Tomorrow? Will You Love Me Tomorrow?
One of my favourite albums of all time.
Folk perfection
Amazing album that sounds like it could have been released this year, last year or is still to be released next year!
A lovely album from Carole that still hits.
One of the greatest songwriters distills fifteen years of great songwriting into a superb collection of the craft and art of songwriting. An album about which so much can be said but little actually needs to be. Just listen. 5550000 stars.
An accidential find, a kind of reassuring warm comfort and maybe a hint of joy and (understated) sublimation unexpectedly here - an album which had so many familiar comofting sounds so wonderfully held together as a whole album (Carol King is a new name for me, but my ears recognise her). words liek imtimate , personal ... evokes beanbags and a slower time. On hearing it, I wanted to buy it for my daughters as an examplar of a 1970s sound and pace: an album to listen to on a bean bag, a light breeze, a lava lamp, rainbow sticker, and no partiularly rush to the day. It may not be a 5, but I am giving that number to albums I definitely will listen to again. and yeah, It belongs here as a sound/style/tone of a time.
Superb performance by a brilliant vocalist and songwriter. Deep emotional lyrics backed by a rich tapestry of instrumental music. A rare glittering gem.
Obviously perfect. Well done Carole
This was a huge album when it came out and should still be today. Talent above and beyond.
Wow. Did she write all the classic songs?
I don’t know what to say but this is just really really good
I fell in love with this album after my family bought tickets to the Carole King musical. There are more hits on this than there aren't. What a cool singer-songwriter.
One of the easiest five stars. Flawless. Received wisdom is of course other people sang her songs better, and of course in the case of Aretha Franklin that would be true. But she's got a wonderful voice, a wistfulness and melancholy that's unique. And that fabled warm analogue early seventies studio sound is perhaps here only equalled by Steely Dan.
New for me. Need to listen to more from Suzanne Vega
When I first heard this album I thought it was a greatest hits. It's incredible that the same person wrote all these gems.
A classic!!
I love this album - another of the ones my Dad would play to me on vinyl when I was a wee girl! Fond memories Great for a singalong, such powerful lyrics sung beautifully and the bass lines are funky AF! Fave Track: It's too late
I've been waiting for this one. Not because I know it front to back and want to gush about it (because I don't). No, I've been waiting because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. So many times I've heard this album gushed about by critics, seen it on list after list of the best albums ever, and heard from my own mother just how important an album this is. So that's a lot of hype, right? How often does any piece of media actually live up to any amount of insane hype? How often are you left disappointed by an album that everyone else seems to love, but you just can't get into? Well, I'm here to say that not only did this album meet the high expectations set onto by everything I've ever heard about it, it exceeded it. This is a fantastic collection of songs by a wonderful singer songwriter. Truly a masterpiece of originality, storytelling, and emotional songwriting. Carole King does here what so many others strive to do, which is to produce an emotionally authentic piece of art that so many have found, absorbed, and loved long after its release. I can't say enough, honestly. Easy five stars. I loved it. Standout Tracks: I Feel the Earth Move, So Far Away, Way Over Yonder, Where You Lead, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
So so good. She is such a talented songwriter. I love "Where You Lead" because it reminds me of Gilmore Girls. This album feels like you are just a room and she is singing right at you. This is almost a perfect album.
I have such a sweet relationship with Carole king’s music, filled with youthful naivety and an ever-present sense of wisdom that never fails to fill my heart. This woman is an inspiration and a talent beyond words; I can never truly fault her work
What a great album. I knew of her but this album has blown me away.
Let's face it, this album is brilliant. There's some absolutely brilliant tracks in here, was some light relief after the last few days...
This album is a real powerhouse showcase of King's songwriting, having written nearly all of this album with most notable exception being a couple partial contributions by Gerry Goffin. Instrumentally King lands in real universal territory by taking her nuanced yet extremely relatable songs into very groove-based piano-driven territory. Are these songs cliché or overplayed now? Yes, but I'd argue that their place is earned, this is pure FM radio gold.
This album is perfection. No notes.
🔥🔥🔥
Everybody loves this album but that’s because it’s a fucking great album. One of the easiest 5s so far
Ah, I just love this album
A record filled with such warmth it’s like it’s being played live just for me. Simple and complex at the same time. Can’t imagine a time in my life when I would want to listen to this. Perfect.
MASTER-FUCKING-PIECE!!! The voice, the piano, the arrangement, the emotion - this album is perfection. So Far Away alone is worth 10 stars.
There’s so much semen in my pants
Love it 😍 4.5/5
Fucking top 10
I didn’t know how amazing this album was! Five stars for sure!
Without any doubt one of the landmark female singer/songwriter albums. Every song is a tour-de-force. Melodic and insightful. A true masterpiece.
just like slipping into a well-loved, old sweatshirt.
Great album, great voice, lots of excellent hits - I feel the earth move, you make me feel like a natural woman, will you love me tomorrow.
Tapesty is really good. It's piano-driven without being too samey, her voice is such an easy listen, the composition of the songs is beautifully balanced for the most part, you get a strong feel of the emotions attached to each story, it's a very strong piece of work. Way Over Yonder is the best song on the album, but the well-known You've Got a Friend and the two 'covers' (she wrote them but didn't perform the original releases) of Will You Love Me Tomorrow and A Natural Women are excellent too. This deserves a 5/5, I knew her name and a bit of her work but very happy to have this reason to find out a bit more about here.
One of those all-time classic albums. Wouldn't change a note.
No la conocía, suena bien. Habían varias canciones que había escuchado o me sonaban, lo que fue una sorpresa agradable. Bonito album.
Wow amazing!
Wonderful album
Carole king A classic. All these songs are bangers. She has such a distinctive sound as a singer, pianist, and obviously songwriter. Really great sounding and cozy feeling throughout the whole record.
So many great songs on here and such a good front to back record. Songwriting and arrangements and instrumentation is all so well done
It’s too late is so good. She’s an incredible songwriter
banger after banger after banger after banger
It’s Carole King! She’s one of the greatest song writers of all time!!! Ultimate cozy listening!
Awesome album. Love her voice. Also - Gilmore Girls theme!
I love this album. So many songs I already know and never realized this was from the same album. Rightly recognized for the masterpiece it is.
one of the best instrumentals i've ever heard
It's a good album with nothing but solid hits. A timeless album.
One of the Best LP's of All-Time!
Beautiful songs and crafting
Always forget how great this is
Love this album. CK is a great song writer. These songs make me smile. They hold up to the passage of time.
I have always felt that this album, along with the Carpenters catalog, is the perfect music for staring out the window on a rainy day. There's really not a bad or "filler" song on the album. It has more than a handful of hits and even the covers (is it a cover if you do a song you wrote?) put King's own spin on the song. She seems to send a very different message in Will You Love Me Tomorrow than the Shirelles. While the latter's hit was aimed at teen girls, King's version seems to have a more mature relationship perspective. Also Natural Woman has a very different feel than the venerable Aretha version. Which brings me to the well documented controversy, or is it complaint, that her voice doesn't hold up. Well, clearly, she's not Aretha, but that's not fair. I think she sounds quite good on this album. Her voice doesn't have the power and quality to really pull off everything she wants to do, but she knows what she wants and hits it. And it works with the whole style of the excellent production of this album. Of course her songwriting remains her strongest point. Great classic album. 4.6
I'd seen this album bought up before about how good it is, but I thought it'd find it a bit plain. It's actually lovely.
Is there a single note wrong on this record? Any questionable lyrics or phrasings that seem forced or unnatural or anything less than spot on? Not that one can hear. There are big hits all over the place, and meaningful classics ("Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?") whose impact and influence go far beyond the pop charts. It's encouraging that such a rich and substantive record sold so well. Only downsides is that it can seem sorta boring, with playing right down the middle, and her voice isn't the best, though the singing (phrasing, etc.) is first-rate. An eat-your-vegetables classic it may be, but a classic nonetheless.
Fantastic album.
I know this album by heart. Love it.
Legend
Well it has finally happened The songs on here are so beautiful and well written. Folk songwriting , Singer Songwriter. Whatever you want to call it this is Top Notch “Way Over Yonder” has to be one of my favorite songs of all time First side doesn’t have a bad track! Now side 2 has some lesser songs but they are still well written and nothing is bad at all. This just flows so well and is not a choir to listen to. This is comfort food of music. It’s just beautiful nothing more nothing less . Carol King you’re on of the greats 5/5 1* - Not Good 2* - Has Merit 3* - Would Listen Again (Good) 4* - Like It/Love It 5* - LOVE IT AND IT IS A CLASSIC ALBUM
All time favorite
Classic 70s funk and warmth. Opening track is a definitive 70s timecapsule. 70s stuff like this feels like it still has freedom of form and singer song writer lyrical qualities. Not quite stream of consciousness, but clearly the message inspired the lyricism. A pleasant, yet common voice that doesn't feel manufactured. It makes sense why do many of these have covers. So many iconic songs!
This album is TITS! The musicianship was amazing. Could listen to that guy play guitar all day ….
Iconic pop album, will have you recognizing hit after hit as you ride through the album.
Easy listening, comforting music. Great lyrics. Minimalist album - mostly just singing and piano.
Good stuff
Great, very chill

A+. Stands the test of time. Well-written, great songs, varied and interesting music. This is an absolute classic for a reason.
This one is timeless genius. If I had to find something critical to say about this album it would be that it seems to draw more women than men, like barren cat women, even though every breeder woman I know loves it as well. That said, if this album doesn't deserve 5 stars, there is no method to the madness. "Way Over Yonder" has always been my personal favorite on a difficult set list to rank.
Awesome album from one of the best singer-songwriters of all time.
Very pleasant songs - a great album - I was pleasantly surprised
An absolute masterclass in songwriting. Gorgeous, warm, inviting, soulful songs that will continue to stand the test of time.
A great album. I don't worship at the altar of Carole King like some, but this is undeniably killer.
Soulful. Beautiful. Classic.
Hard to imagine so many massive hit songs on one album 5*
I had no idea one album produced so many recognizable songs. A truly great folk album with a little bit of everything. Every song brings something unique to the album either through the music or lyrics. Just an all-around excellent listen with no weak spots or skippable songs.
I was not expecting this to be incredible.
LP
Lovely album. I may prefer The Shirelles's version of "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" or Aretha's version of "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", but I still love being able to listen to Carole King sing her own songs. And there are so many other beautiful tracks. What a brilliant songwriter. Bonus points for having the cat on the cover. Favorites: "I Feel the Earth Move", "It's Too Late", "Beautiful", "Way Over Yonder", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman"
I've heard the album before. Pretty amazing showcase of songwriting skills. Although some of the performances here might be overshadowed by versions performed by other artists, the quality of the songs and her simple arrangements still sounds great.
She has always been one of my favorite songwriters and this set is all you need to hear to see why. Just classic after classic. Warm and inviting... Solid 10 out of 10 ★★★★★
Normally, I don't think this type of album would be in my wheelhouse as 70s Singer-Songwriter is not a genre I usually jibe with. However, I think Carole's songwriting really elevates something that would normally bore me to tears. I think her background in 60s pop and R&B really gives the material an ethos that is unlike the typical guy/girl at a piano stuff from this era. I also really like her voice and the fact that she sings in a normal register. There's a nice soulful quality and some imperfections there that really set her apart from her peers. 5
Such a homey, lovely, plaintive album. Almost perfect, the song Smackwater Jack only flaw throughout the whole album. 5 stars 9.6 out of 10
Total classic. Every other song is a single, and the ones in between are great. Easy five stars.
Just a banger of an album.
Absolutely amazing! Entire album is 5/5! (and there is a cat on the cover!!!)
This rating might be inflated by my nostalgia, but fuck it. Tens across the board. I was so excited to see this pop up as my Friday listen.
I’m not the biggest fan of her voice, but she never seemed to take issue with others singing her brilliant songs for her. Another example of “time and place,” these songs seem simple in Swiftie-World, but Carole King was doing all of this 50 years ago!
The level of songwriting on display is gobsmacking. This was a perfect album. I thought I'd never heard this, but every other song I’d go OMG I know this song!!! And even the tracks I didn’t know - they all had this timeless quality that made me feel like these songs have always existed, that they’re as old as the earth and that our most primal ancestors sang these songs around the fire.
This is about as good as singer-songwriter albums get.
This is the epitome of a perfect singer-songwriters album. Beautifully produced, every single instrument is so crisp. Her tone is perfection. Although, I have always known of Carole King, but today, I became a "Carole King" fan. I cannot express to you enough, just how amazing this app is.
One of my favorite singer/songwriter albums. Carole King is a legend and this is her greatest collection of songs.
A timeless master piece.
I mean 10
Great voice, great songs. One of my All-time favorite. Returns be to my teen years.
4.5
Poetry set to music. Beautiful.
Wonderful so easy running album nice mix of originals and covers. I can definitively add this to my playlist as a whole. Gives a relaxing vibe and sooooo smooth
i didn't realize carole king was responsible for so many classics! Absolute banger of an album!
Wow. I was worried it would be another 1st song is the big hit followed by a bunch of ehh songs but this had 4 of the biggest hits of the 70s that are still extremely recognizable today. Amazing voice, amazing instrumentals throughout. Truly a fantastic listen from start to finish. 10/10
I don’t think I’m going to listen to it again any time soon but it is pretty much perfect
This is one of my favorite albums. Amazing songs. Going to relearn some of them xx Merry Clayton on BV’s on way over yonder. Joni Mitchell on BV’s on will you still love me tomorrow 😮 James Taylor on acoustic
5 stars!! Great album!! My Mom would play this just about once a month when I was growing up. Haven't heard it for about 35 years and still remembered it.
Love it!
10/10. Classic, great energy, great voice, fun, great instrumentally. Full package.
Iconic cat. Even more iconic album. I thought it was a bunch of covers, but then I realized she wrote all of the originals…
I'm going with a solid 4.5 and rounding up to 5 for this one.
There were a whole load of records in the pile my parents had at home that I listened to all the time. One of the records in the pile was this, which my mother owned. I never played this as a kid for the following reasons: 1) I'd never heard of Carole King; 2) I'm still not entirely confident of the difference between a tapestry and an embroidery. 3) It seemed to be a load of cover versions. My mum also had some terrible covers albums and I thought this was one of them. Frankly why would I listen to this woman I'd never heard of singing a song rather than listen to the Aretha Franklin original? So I don't know exactly when it happened, but I either read it was a thing or someone told me it was a thing and I thought "I've got that". It's pretty much a perfect album if you pretend that Smackwater Jack doesn't exist. And I've come to terms with that song as time has gone by. Of course, they were all her songs and like others (some here) the covers thing was a mistake. She was a hell of a songwriter and it turns out she was a hell of a performer too. Carole King is a remarkable and important figure in the history of music and this is one of the greatest albums ever made.
Love this album. The session musicians are amazing and really help elevate it. It looks like Carole King wrote all of the music which is just amazing. Really has a good mix of smooth vibes and intricate instrumental hooks. The vocals are perfect for this type of music and, though I’m not a lyrics person, this album is filled with great imagery and just brings you to the places she’s singing about.
Having heard the name of Carole King before but not being specifically familiar with her discography, I was blown away by this record. There are so many pop standards on this record alone that I couldn't believe were all originally recorded by one person, let alone on one album. The songs are also timeless in that if Adele sang these same songs as originals in her voice in 2024 they would still be bona fide hits the same as they were in 1970. Impeccable vocals and musicianship throughout, King has heard a new fan in me today. Notable Tracks: - I Feel the Earth Move - So Far Away - It's Too Late - guitar and sax solos - Beautiful - Way Over Yonder - You've Got a Friend - I was only familiar with James Taylor's version which I love, and this is an amazing version in its own right - Where You Lead - not the biggest Gilmore Girls fan, but this is a classic theme song - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman 9/10
Great album and beautiful voice…not sure about the cat
One of the best albums by far I've heard. Every song was masterfully written and performed with amazing mixing. Does not surprise me why this album is frequently so high on rankings, will definitely be listening again.
Tapestry is Carole King's second studio album, and is her most successful album. It set records for sales, and sit high on most lists of the greatest albums of all time. King has a rich, expressive voice and a talent for writing songs about relatable emotional moments. This album is full of her beautiful expressions of these moments, that became incredibly successful pop songs: "So Far Away," "I feel the Earth Move," and "Beautiful." King inspired generations of musicians with her work.
Even for 1971 – arguably one of the greatest years for music of all time – this gives King's contemporaries a run for their money. The songwriting quality here is so darn strong for (essentially) every track here, including a fair share of all-time classics. Check out my list of key tracks and you'll realise just how consistently great the songs here are. Some great melodies, powerful (but not overdone) vocals, and smooth, feelgood instrumentation that compliments the mood of each track perfectly. For a while, I couldn't quite place what made King's vocal mannerisms so familiar. But... ah, yep! She sounds like a female Lindsey Buckingham, in terms of accent, inflections, and melodies. And of course Fleetwood Mac's music was later, meaning there's probably heavy influence taken from King's material. Lots of parallels can also be drawn with Joni Mitchell's stripped-back indie sound from around the same time. Cool stuff. I Feel the Earth Move is a great choice of opening track, being a catchy, upbeat song with a distinctive vocal hook. The other bookend, A Natural Woman, is a solid choice of finale too. The track ordering definitely does the music justice. I guess the only thing I could fault would be the uninteresting album cover... except it's just about the best album cover you can get. (Cat) Key tracks: (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, You've Got a Friend, It's Too Late, I Feel the Earth Move
One of the best albums so far. Just great songs and her voice is amazing.
Absolutely flawless record. Easily one of the best albums ever.
Everything about this is amazing. Hits everywhere, superb production, great songwriting. 10/10 Too shelf bottled pop, early 70s vintage.
There's a reason why this album sold a bazillion copies. Carol King makes me, in particular, feel like a natural woman.
Another flawless classic. 5 stars, what else?
Stunning. 5.
Wow. Classic after classic. Personal enjoyment: 5/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5
I have to be in the right mood, but when I am, this one is absolutely killer. One of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century.
A classic. I love it.
underrated but amazing album. Full of classic hits
A true classic from the 70s. Some of these songs have been part of the soundtrack of my life for years. 5 stars!
This is a tapestry. A huge concise map of memories, a little faded sometimes, in other places colourful, overall a certain shade of things gone and woven together in an imaginary past. I am sol familiar with this one, there is no real rating. It is like that large heirloom hanging on the wall and never removed because it's simply indispensable. It's value is defined by the viewer and not by itself. Love it.
Love it
I was too sick to properly enjoy this one, but I could tell it was spectacular
Incredibly nice voice, very catchy album that’s strong throughout. Good use of the piano throughout and liked the harmonising in some later tracks.
So many standards on this album, most of which were hits for other artists: "I Feel the Earth Move", "It's Too Late", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", and the massive "You've Got a Friend" (which I'd always assumed had been written by James Taylor).
Greatest album ever.
Ridiculous how may top songs this album has, and how many have been covered by famous artists. The covers might have been sung better, with a more polished production, but it would be wrong not to give this album 5 stars
название полностью оправдывает альбом. классный альбом для того чтобы подумать о чем нибудь или получить поддержку со стороны
This album rocks
İncredible
1. Very upbeat piano and guitar notes. Makes you want to tap your foot to the rhythm. 2. Transitions to a slower song. So far away Great album all throughout
It’s an all timer
-Carole has an awesome voice -I like the pianos -great, poetic songwriting -such a warm album -I love the album cover -bang on beautiful album -a quite intimate album for Carole King -I would definitely spin some tracks of it often -found my rain album -favorite songs: I Feel The Earth Move (<3), So Far Away, It's Too Late (<3), Beautiful, Way Over Yonder (<3), You've Got A Friend (<3), Where You Lead, Will You Love Me Tomorrow? (<3), Smackwater Jack, A Natural Woman -least favorite song: the title track
I. Love. Carole.
It's wild to think how many of the songs on here became hits or were already hits for other artists, too.
Damn!!! A great return from my album hiatus
Old school one hit wonder pop that just hits this is the perfect album for going to Central Park, and I love the beautiful nature of the love in these places. I feel the earth move is such a beautiful love song and I feel like a dream. May is mellow af i need this record badddddd
This listen put me in the 1% of Carole King listeners on Airbuds
Great album. So 70’s. Listened to again later in the evening
Typically I hate soft rock, but Tapestry really does transcend that label. The writing, composition, musicianship, recording, and performance are all essentially perfect while still being heartfelt. King's originals are really what make the album, but "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" and "Natural Woman" are a cool way to fill out the album (and a sweet flex, being she cowrote and/or arranged both). Add in Mary Clayton et all on backup vocals, and it's not hard to understand the critical accolades and commercial success. There's just a universally understandable feel to this record. This also happens to be my favorite James Taylor album.
5.5 stars? The production is excellent and the vocal performances are so powerful and expressive. Carole King is such a great songwriter. I had to look up if "You Make Me Feel" was an original song, as it's been covered by so many people. Revisiting this album, I have a new appreciation for "Beautiful," which is upbeat with delight keyboard flourishes, as well as "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," with its beautiful vocals and harmonies. Very endearing and timeless. One of the greatest pop albums of all time.
One of the best albums I've heard in a while. King's folk-ish style really shines through on this album. I love her.
Classic album that I already own, pretty much every song is excellent. Carole is an iconic American songwriter in my opinion. It's recorded well and sounds great. I hope to listen to it many more times.
one of the first albums I bought. Still a good one
Omg I love Carole King. Like chill
Yeah 👍
Without a doubt, one of the most incredible albums - not a bad song in the bunch and is utterly deserving of praise as an influential work.
Hit parade
Carole King's Tapestry feels like a warm hug, enveloping you in its comforting melodies and heartfelt lyrics. The album's sparse instrumentation highlights King's soulful voice and piano, creating an intimate atmosphere that's both timeless and nostalgic. The simplicity of the album is its strength, allowing the raw emotion of King's performance to shine through. It weaves together themes of love, loss, and self-discovery with an authenticity that's rare and beautiful. The gentle strumming of the guitar in So Far Away and the uplifting piano chords in Beautiful serve as tender reminders of home. King's lyrics are poetic yet relatable, capturing universal experiences with grace and sensitivity. Tapestry is more than just an album; it's a journey through the highs and lows of life, delivered with warmth and sincerity. Every note and word in Tapestry reflects a piece of Carole King's soul, making it a deeply personal and universally cherished record. The album's enduring appeal lies in its ability to connect with listeners on a profoundly emotional level. For many, Tapestry remains a timeless classic, much like the enduring love of a mother. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 11 STAND OUT TRACK - Where You Lead
1) know this one. It’s pleasant 2) know it 3) know it. Huh. Lots of hits on this 5) what a lovely song. 7 another hit 8 same song different beat lol Overall very nice production quality. Her voice is very pleasant and controlled as well 10 upbeat boogie Wraps up with another absolute classic. 5 star
Music for Young Professional Women who live alone in a mid-sized American city. And while I don’t live alone and I live in one of the largest cities in the world, this still speaks to my soul. Perfect record to put on while you cook dinner. Perfect early summer walk album, but also a great Thanksgiving album. Plenty of perfect karaoke songs. Plenty of songs to sing along with in your car while you cry. Flawless songwriting, insanely great piano playing, powerful vocals. It just feels like music that has always existed, which means it was always meant to exist. It’s front-loaded for sure, but the back half really shows how much King influenced music overall, and that in itself is powerful. Honestly shocked this is my first listening front to back, because I will now be listening to this on repeat forever.
What a great album. Cracking surprise. Cat. 93/100
Damn this album was good. The first three tracks were all bangers, with my favorite being It's Too Late. I also really liked Beautiful and Smackwater Jack. Carole has a great voice and that early 70s pop has that Motown vibe with soulful instrumentals that feel powerful and genuine.
Wow! Just Wow! I didn’t realize just how many amazing songs came off this album. Unbelievably good. This gets a rare 5-star ranking from me. It can always be in the rotation. She wrote great songs.
I Feel the Earth Move, It's Too Late,Way Over Yonder, You've Got a Friend, Where You Lead,Will You Love Me Tomorrow? Will You Love Me Tomorrow?
A classic, a pleasant listen ;-) I can't say much more, I didn't usually listen to this kind of music when I was growing up, but now, as an adult in my 50s, we've come to appreciate something truly unique and rich
Day 4 of listening to 1001 albums everyday. I genuinely don’t know what it was about 1971 but so many amazing albums come out that year. And Carole King’s Tapestry is no exception. The album is just classic after classic over and over again. There is really not much else to say the vocals are amazing throughout the whole project. The lyrics are beautiful and touching. This an album that I’ve have never heard of and I am so glad I got sit down with it and give it a listen.
Favorite track: It's too late Other picks: I feel the earth move, So far away, You make me feel like.
Masterpiece. Easily one of the greatest albums ever recorded
This album is amazing from start to finish. I saw someone complain about there being too many covers, but Carole King wrote all these songs. Her versions are not the covers!
She tone of voice and music is simple yet adds to the complexity of what she speaks. Also allows her vocals to come out well. Very soothing.
Incredible album. I am not sure how this one slipped through the radar before. Definitely will listen again.
An artist and album that moves my soul.
These songs kick ass
Finally one for Jim! A couple of these tracks have better covers, but this is some all-time great songwriting.
Classic singer songwriter doing classic songs shit, loaded with songs you know/knew but couldn't put your finger on. Also it's the emphasis for the "Beautiful" Broadway show, how many albums can say that?
Love this shit, hell yeah
Classic
I'd seriously overlistened to this in the past and as a result had kind of gone off it - and haven't listened in quite a while as a result. Relistening now, its clear what a masterclass in songwriting the whole thing is. (But yes, Aretha's version of Natural Woman is the canonical one)
Perfect voice. Perfect tunes. Perfect album.
Excellent. Best tracks are Where You Lead, Natural Woman, It’s Too Late to name a few 5/5
Love this one! Soft and folksy at times, with some jazz and ballads folded in with lots of heart the whole way through.
Many bangers, an artist I should listen to more
Banger
Great voice. Great songs. Great album.
A classic
Top 3 albums of all time. Unreal this was the first one on my project.
Perfection
There's so many songs on here that I knew from other things, a very nostalgic listen
cat
Absolutely stunning piece of work. Carole King has always been a musical blindspot for me but LAWD JAYZUS I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT!
Wonderful album. First few songs just hit so good. Simple and beautiful. I've listened to this before so just enjoyed listening to it all as one piece.
Easy 5*s. Gorgeous
Great album that I always forget about but know every song
I’ve loved Carole King since I was a kid. Another one of my mom’s favorites! I can remember seeing some late night Singer Songwriter CD compilation with a few of her songs and it’s an instant nostalgia hit to listen to this album start to finish. Her vocals are just so… cozy. Comforting! This is about as easy listening as I can handle, so it’s a nice little treat. Her songwriting credits are absolutely fucking INSANE for all of the songs that she wrote for other people but I think she kept some of the best ones for this record. I didn’t know that this went 14 times platinum either lol. There’s not much I can really say about it other than it’s songs you know, and it’s just really really fucking good.
Gorgeous from top to bottom. Feels just like the album art
what is it with the 1970s and their pretty rock songs? this album is so pretty. i love every track. i just... i can't put it to words. i just could put this stuff on, lean my head back and relax. it's just so pleasant from beginning to end. a talented singer and pianist, that's for sure.
There are lots of genres in music. Within each genre, there are those that define it; make the rules for it. Carole King has some of the best in class works on this piece. How many versions of these songs have I heard over the years? Over and over, many of the songs in this collection are remade by another artist after another. Sometimes they strike gold as well. Carole King paved the way and gave us all some magic to enjoy along the way.
Great
What a wonderful album this is, one that I have on vinyl now. I mean there's not a whole lot more to say: every song on the album is a hit. She's got a gigantic, soulful voice for a white girl. Favorite track: You've Got a Friend
just wow!
Clean, crisp, strong, sensual. Just delightful. I could listen to Carol King all day. Such a beautiful album, so many detailed and intricately styled yet simple songs. I don't have words to criticise it. None. Thanks for appearing on the list. A worthy member. Huge urge to listen to others of hers to see the tower of music and capability that is Carol King. So nice to hear in high fidelity. 6 stars. Wait, damn, only 5 available.
What a record! With Tapestry, Carole King proved that she couldn’t just write the hits, but she could sing them as well. I Feel the Earth Move immediately pulls you in and once you’re in, you’re here for the ride. A lot of the songs should be familiar as they were originally written for other artists, but King’s more relaxed renditions are quite nice.
What can you say about this album that hasn't been said before. Every song is good at a minimum. They are all so sweet and soulful. The lyrics are simple, but not trite, and the music underscores them perfectly. This is not the type of album that I usually go for, but it's hard not to when an album is this perfectly executed 5/5
Loved it.
probably my most listened to album
Wonderful- not a bad track on it
Love when I don't even have to do a re-listen to know it's a 5 star. Been listening to this baby since I was a baby. Carole King is King.
Just some magnificent music and texture and songwriting
Love it
Beautiful album
An arguably perfect pop album from one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Even the most slept-on tracks here (e.g. Way Over Yonder, Smackwater Jack) are beautifully written, performed, and produced. Insta-5.
This was so amazingly good! I had never knowingly listened to Carol King before and I had no idea she was behind some of these great songs covered by other artist. Incredibly talented and an absolute joy to listen to. 4.5
you can't knock the pedigree.
Legendary
So many great songs. Almost every track here is an all time classic.
One of my all time favorites! Beautiful voice and excellent songwriting
Voz melodiosa, canciones suaves y delicadas. Me encantan sus canciones!
A classic.
It’s so good I just let it keep playing through a second time after the record finished. Rating: 4.7
So many brilliant tunes, well-crafted songs and simultaneously evoking beautiful memories. Theme tune from Gilmore Girls - how fantastic was that! I was vacillating between a 4 and a 5 and then she sang Will you still love me tomorrow? One of my father’s favourite songs - we played it as he got thrown onto a fire and Monday was his deathiversary so that clinched it.
Fantastic from beginning to end. She has such a gift for melody and lyrics, and the arrangements are on point, too.
Take some consummate songwriting skills she developed from the Brill Building factory and let her turn it on her personal story instead of writing for others? Yeah, sign me up for that. Fifty plus years later and the album still pops with intimacy and relatability that resonates. Gotta say though, Where You Lead is a little anachronistic listening to the lyrics in 2024. No matter, easy five star album.
One of the best albums of all time hands down. You can still hear its influence on music today. Few albums have the longevity that this one does.
