01/04/23: Only song I knew before listening to this album was "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" which I always thought of as a cheesy song but sounds really amazing within the context of this album. Really a cooler album than the band name and album cover art would indicate. Personal song highlights: -Shout -Everybody Wants to Rule the World -Head Over Heels/Broken -Listen Feels like a less dark Depeche Mode and the predecessor to the 1975

1/05/23: Just an incredible fucking trip. Every song is perfect from a creative and musicianship standpoint. The drum fills and absolute instrumental carnage in Wars of Armageddon, the crying guitar in Maggot Brain, the sunny vibes on Can You Get to That. I haven't revisited this album in a while and happy that this generator gave me an opportunity to listen to this one again.
1/06/22: Listening to the Beastie Boys rap is like watching Bob Cousy play basketball in the 60s and thinking that I could do it better. Is it because they're white guys in black sports? Is it because both basketball and hip-hop have evolved drastically to something completely? I understand how this was such a revolutionary hip-hop album in 1989. Beasties were able to sample from so many iconic/recognizable artists/songs, however, it just sounds dated today to me. Also, the shout rapping, flow, and cadence becomes pretty repetitive. I respect this album as a historical hip-hop piece but feel no need to revisit this album in the 2020s. I really liked the following songs: -The Sounds of Science -Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun -Car Thief -A Year and a Day -Hello Brooklyn
This was a fun listen. Each song is a fusion of genres between funk, r&b, gospel, surf rock, jazz, blues.
I'm not particularly big on Britpop. I did, however, enjoy this album. It's fun and melodic. Highlights include: -Metal Guru -The Slider -Telegram Sam
1/12/23: I really enjoyed this album. I had heard of Buena Vista Social Club before but had no clue what to expect. The grooves, extended jams, the choral campfire-esque singing made this such an awesome listen. Was considering 5 stars.
1/3/23: I had never heard of this album. Absolutely inspirational. Can’t believe this was a completely improvised set.
1/16/23: I enjoyed it and appreciate the history of it being considered the first heavy metal album. Really cool that it had all the blues feel to it.
1/17/23: Not a huge fan of britpop but I thought this felt different. Heavy message with interesting production and instrumentation.
1/18/23: I like the idea of some of these tunes blasting at a Dive Bar but it didn't really hit for me through headphones at 8AM while trying to get ready for work. Some very cringe lyrics, really stunning that KISS is one of the top-selling bands of all time. Just doesn't seem THAT mainstream to me but I guess they're not that far removed from the grandiosity and theatrics of Queen.
1/19/23: Hadn’t heard this album before but I really enjoyed it. Also cool to see how Lou Reed/Velvet Revolver evolved from this debut. 4.5/5 for me
1/20/23: Not as good as some of Metallica’s earlier stuff IMO (i.e. And Justice For All, Master of Puppets, Kill Them All). Nothing Else Matters is a beautiful song though.
Solid album, super clean production and great compositions.
I remember downloading this album in the early 2000s. I remember it being ok back then and it’s still ok today. Black Thought was and is a good rapper but as a whole this album was just too long and maybe too indulgent for me at times.
Closer to a 4.5/5 for me. This is a great album but it also gets extra points from me from a nostalgia perspective. Takes me back to my post-college NYC days.
This is really smooth, a lot of the compositions sound like Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On”. I’m interested to watch the movie.
Great from beginning to end. Just a collection of really pop songs and ballads.
I liked it. Didn’t particularly love it. Could possibly benefit from some more listens. I don’t know if I’ve ever listened to a fully acoustic punk band so the sound was very interesting to me.
This was a good album not one I personally intend to revisit though.
Yea this album rocks 🤙🏾!
Not much needs to be said. Just a flawless, layered concept album.
Baba OReilly is a banger. This album has some good songs but overall it never really affected me like it does most people. 🤷🏾♂️
Nothing memorable. Derivative early 60s pop. I guess that was the point,
I had never heard of this band or album before but this had a lot of really good stand alone songs within a concept album. I thought the production seemed a little fuzzy even as I was listening in a lossless format but it seemed to add to the psychedelic texture so I ended up getting used to it and even liking the aesthetic. I intend to revisit this one.
I really loved this album. The run from Private Dancer to Help! is one of the strongest string of songs I’ve ever heard. She put a poppy twist on a number of great covers and her strong bluesy voice was wrought with such emotion you couldn’t help but think of her complicated history. I would’ve given this a 4.5 out of 5.
Great listen from front to back. Janis was just a bad ass woman with a powerful blues voice. She really stands front and center on the album. Will definitely listen to this one again and again. 4.5/5 for me.
A very tight conceptual pop album with some really memorable songs capturing the essence of teenage drama/turmoil. Really dug this album.
Really impressive compositions and instrumentations but it doesn't do too much for me. Probably won't revisit this album except for a few songs. A Remark You Made is a stand out to me.
Moody dance music. Feels in the same vein as the Cure and Depeche Mode. Rock-influenced, electronic, synth dance music. Typically not a huge fan of the 80s but I can revisit this numerous times. Standpoints from my opinion. -All the Way -Round & Round -Mr. Disco -Vanishing Point -Dream Attack
I'm usually not very into old rap albums but this one just doesn't sound dated. This is a pretty fun album with a lot of interesting sounds and song concepts. Standouts include: -Buggin' Out -Verses from the Abstract -Check the Rhime -Jazz -Scenario
Bangers from start to end. Really enjoyed this album. Melding punk, pop, doo wop, hip-hop, disco. Favorite tracks include: -Hanging on the Telephone -Pretty Baby -I know but I don't know -11:59 -Heart of Glass Will revisit this one.
So In Love is just straight up panty soup. One of the loveliest songs I had ever heard. Billy Jack and Jesus were also good songs IMO. I actually enjoyed this album more than Superfly. This album was closer to a 3.5 out of 5 for me but I rounded up just because of So In Love.
This album was such a cool shift from Thriller album while maintaining some of the formulas that made Thriller such a cultural force. Closer to a 4.5/5 for me but not quite perfect like Thriller or Off the Wall IMO
4.5/5
4.5/5 for me
This is a really dumb album but it also goes dumb hard
