Reviews (page 4 of 13)

A lot of awesome stuff going on in this from the very first track. African is probably one of my favorites from this entire album challenge so far.

Great!

fav songs: that’s the way of the world all about love (first impression) reasons see the light warm, lush, soulful 75/100

Funky start to the week.

Very good, but did not capture my attention as much as I hoped

I listened to this album the morning after I wrote and submitted for publication my first poem in years; I kept thinking about it throughout the day. In retrospect, my standards for this album might have been a little high. September is an all-time classic song, and I immediately recognized Shining Star as another gem. It may have been unfair to this album to expect every single song to hit those same levels of funk, leading me to feel a little disheartened when first listening to the rest of the album. But once I cleared my head a bit and came back at these songs again, I found myself falling right into the groove of them with no problem. The various vocalists across the album all have incredible voices which punch through the beats in a way that you can't help but bob your head along with, and the instrumentation constantly carries the fun-loving vibe of this project with tight rhythms and horn sections and bass lines. Earth, Wind & Fire simply have unprecedented amounts of undeniably cool energy that goes a long way in carrying their music to being a rad time, and I'm all here for it. Highlights: Shining Star, That's the Way of the World, Reasons, Africano, See the Light

This was a really fun, upbeat album- and the vocals were fantastic! I would put this on for a party, it has just the right high energy vibe for that.

非常好

Shining Star, Happy Feelin’, and the title song, The Way of the World, were all fantastic. I’m not sure I’d ever listened to a whole Earth, Wind, and Fire album before but this was a good example of great soul music. (Day 8, March 6, 2026)

Groove 2 the max

Solid, I would listen to this again.

pretty interesting, i love that huh.

Reasons hino, álbum agradável e divertido

Bring on the funk! A treat! Perhaps a bit too funky if possible at times but definitely worth a re listen

oh yah great start to my monday!! ok no listening notes by track, but great album. it's disco, ya can't complain. not the famous earth wind & fire songs, but nonetheless fantastic. honestly maybe better for it; showcases what they can do beyond just "do you remember." "the 21st night of september." anyway solid 4/5 range

A really funky, soulful album. I was transported back to the time of disco and Soul Train in the best way. Fun instrumentals and funky vocals make this a fun album I wouldn't mind returning to.

C marrant mtn g la barre

Love this. Very fun and brought a big smile to my face. 4

First time listening to a full Earth, Wind and Fire album and I quite enjoyed it. Kept a funky groove throughout. Favorite track - Shining Star Least Favorite Track - All About Love (First Impression) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Funky cool grooves

Brilliant. They would have been incredible live. Lose 1 star for excessive saxophone

EWnF always get the body moving

This is getting a 4 purely because of yearnin’ learnin’.

This is like the best kind of wallpaper music. Like the willy wonka flavored wallpaper that kinds can lick. I don't mean this to insult the virtuosity of the players or the song structures I mean that it fits really good in the background alongside setting a great mood. There is a slight lull in the middle but these guys are truly a legendary group with some of the best soul/funk/jazz fusion songs out there.

I was pleasantly surprised by this album. Usually when bands try to blend this many genres together, I feel it often sounds disjointed. I think EW&F pull it off nicely though and create an enjoyable listen all the way through.

Such a good album - very soulful and funky. Especially loved 'All about love'. Would listen to again

Funky but too smooth at times

This band was insanely great and this is a high point.

“So if you find yourself in need Why don’t you listen to these words of heed? Be a giant or grain of sand Words of wisdom, yes, I can” Much like 90% of listeners I was only really familiar with Earth, Wind and Fire’s hits going into this. I was extremely excited at the prospect of a full length album and for the most part was not disappointed. The opener “Shooting Star” was probably the highlight of the record and I had definitely heard it before. It was also indicative of a pattern across “That’s The Way Of The World” of the more upbeat and high tempo tracks being the most rewarding. That said, the slower moments are not bad at all and “All About Love” is a great tune. “Africano” is an interesting lengthy instrumental which I hadn’t anticipated from the group. One of Earth, Wind and Fire’s best elements for me has always been the way they use the horns so it was interesting to see the band put them at the forefront of the mix and allow them to do their own thing over backing from the rest of the band. “That’s The Way Of The World” is not the constant string of funky 70s dance hits you would hope for having heard “September” and “Boogie Wonderland”. It is, however, brilliant fun, groovy, and entertaining whilst providing the odd discography staple here and there.

Wonderful music.

Favourite Songs: That The Way Of The World Happy Feelin' Africano

So smooth :3 What a relaxing Experience<3 I never knew

grooovyyy, I liked happy feelin’ and all about love

It grooves

Первые две песни - супердуперкул, дальше уже спокойнее, но все равно в целом крайне приятный альбом. Ожидал больше фанка, получил больше соула, такой расклад меня тоже устраивает.

This was a smooth listen. Soulful songs about loving yourself, loving others, creating happiness, and believing in your beauty. I listened to it twice while buzzing my hair and it felt very meditative.

Very fun and eclectic!

A solid album with great, varied instrumentals and beautiful singing voices.

Feel catfished by this one; hoping to finally get a bit of disco, and instead got some smooth soul and funk. I’m still pretty content. Sick brass section 7 / 10 Best track/s: That’s the way of the world, Happy Feelin’

It's a great album for introducing into the soul world

Variert nok til at det er en lek å høre gjennom fra start til slutt

Shining Star - 5/5 That's the Way of the World - 5/5 Happy Feelin' - 4/5 All About Love - 3/5 Yearnin' Learnin' - 4/5 Reasons - 4/5 Africano - 2/5 See the Light - 3/5 Average score: 3.8/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ first couple tracks are amazing, but most of the ones following them are kinda whatever in comparison

giving it 4 for now because i did enjoy it. highlight: shooting star

Overflowing with disco-funk grooves and infectious rhythms, That’s the Way of the World is made to get bodies moving.

I was having a bad day, and then I listened to this and I was having a good day.

I'm swooning to these bass lines.

This band is off the charts excellent. Groove 🔥 Harmony 🔥 Pocket 🔥 Arrangement 🔥

The way of singing the lyrics makes it hard to follow, but that is my only complaint! The beats are so cool, not overly upbeat in a way that makes it hard to focus, but not sad and mellow either. Africano is definitely my favorite track because of all of these reasons!!

This reminds me of running ghe back seat with my grandpa listening to 97.8 the wave.

De intro van het album pakte me gelijk, super groovy experimenteel en fun.

funky vibes

#1 for three weeks, spiritual soul Shining star That's the way of the world

i liek it but this is not what im lookin for.. thoughh i feel like a high school living in 1970's to 60's lmao i love it.

Good stuff

Wonderfully 70s-esque album which teems with joy like a young romance. Personally I think 30-40 minutes is what I can enjoy of this music. Fav song: Reasons

This aural equivalent of dropping a valium and some molly and zoning out on a beanbag giggling with your best friends. Pure, unadulterated Good Vibes.

I knew my hunch about liking this one was right

Banger album

Love the funk!

4/5 guarde varias canciones

Another joyous and jubilant funk album. This is the kind that you put on and it immediately makes a smile go across your face. Earth, Wind & Fire reach beyond the boundaries of pure funk on this album and sometimes are able to go straight into more progressive territories with an ease that should be marveled at. It's a fantastic record.

This was a fun one!

Some great tracks: Shining Star Happy Feelin' (has such a great breakdown with a lovely bassline) Africano But I'm not a fan of some of the slower ones...

Many tracks are fantastic and iconic. Some less so. But this is a majorly important, influential, and fun album. Should definitely be part of the rotation. A 4.

Let’s groooooove!!

another near perfect album and certainly my favorite EWF album. "shining star" is rightfully the most well-known song, but there are hidden bangers on here, including the title track, "yearnin' learnin'" and "see the light". great stuff from top to bottom. if their cover of "gotta get you into my life" were on here, it'd be an easy 5 stars.

8 songs of pure joy, with Shining star being my favorite. Not their best album, but very good.

Not my style but I have mad respect for Earth, Wind & Fire. Some good stuff on there that I recognize. The mix is excellent.

Oh yeah

Slayyy, me encantóoooo shining star por un montón

Rating: 4/5 What a great feat to an album only 38 mins long. Earth, Wind and Fire capture the 70s in each song and every song is better than the last. Favourite song: Shining Star or Album title track! Least favourite: Africano (due to it being an instrumental, but still fire)

Maintains a groovy jazz feel while incorporating some larger orchestration which is a feel I haven’t heard before. Vocals (especially background harmonies) are pretty fantastic and add a soulful atmosphere throughout. Super solid stuff and am happy to have heard more from this band.

I liked this album, some of the songs felt a little repetitive to me but overall it was good. My favorite was Shining Star.

Shining Star is such a great song and the album peaks with the opening, but the rest is still fun.

The hits are hits for a reason! Shining Star especially, and the more ballad-ier tracks like That's The Way of the World or Reasons as well. Still feels very organic too, although it's missing a bit of energy as a whole compared to the albums that came later in the decade. I'm a bassist so I cam't help but be biased to bands with great basslines

Great!

mind if a white boy catches a lil funk?

i've fallen behind on my albums but this is really good - the SIXTH album by earth, wind & fire, proving they're more than just September 4.5

Très très cool

This album opened my eyes to what Earth, Wind & Fire was really capable of. I had no clue what they offered aside from their mega hits like Boogie Wonderland and Shining Star, the latter being on this album. What’s here is distinctly funky and soulful from top to bottom. A couple of the songs in the short track list blend together, but some stand outs bring it above par. Highlight: That’s the Way of the World Surprise Hit: Africano

Fav - shining star, that’s the way of the world

Earth Wind and Fire rocks. They’re just so smooth. I can see myself with this being a record tha I continually flip from A to B side and just let it ride

I think this could be a five star album if All About Love was removed. Between the spoken portion and the weird synth/organ solo it just killed the vibe. I’m glad a message to the audience isn’t a trend that’s continued.

En fyllesyk søndag verdig.

Overrasket over hvor variert plata er. World music, jazz, soul, funk. En positiv overraskelse fra et band jeg har sett på som litt kjedelig.

This was a lot of fun. Just some good ass disco through and through. Some of the ballads were less appealing to me, but the bangers banged.

Once, while I was listening to a disco playlist on headphones at the gym, a man came up to the treadmill next to mine and started doing some very elaborate warm-up exercises. They fitted perfectly with the Earth Wind & Fire song that was playing and it looked exactly like he was strutting his stuff to it. It very nearly killed me. Anyway, yes, I love this. I swear you could put this record on at any time of any day, irrespective of what you're doing, and your world will be a brighter, happier place for it. Most songs exude a very pure joy that it's hard not to like. The musicianship is extraordinary, especially the bass on tracks like Happy Feelin'. And Just look at them on the cover. They're loving it, and rightly so. More like this please.

Funk/Electronic, to start with it sounds like it's ahead of it's time from what is usually produced during the 1970s or if I had more knowledge of the 70s goes in line with the progression of tempo in different genres. A very steady drum beat in the background makes alot of the instruments pop in their time signatures. Shining Star really is just a solid first track to the album, high energy and really shows off what Earth, Wind and Fire do. Drums and the extra percussions makes everything stand out on their time signatures. That's the Way of the World is a completely different tone then, again the drum and bass makes the singers stand out and gives them focus. Keeps building on the themes from the Shining Star of self strength. The slow melodic tone is just a nice and chill experience if you're listening to this in a room or while you're going somewhere. Happy Feelin' starting off with that drum pattern, the bass then the brass comes in and damn that's good. This definitely has the genetics of Soul, something you would hear in a church where everyone would sing along and it is so easy to picture. The ending is strange though, the electric piano. All About Love starts again with the melancholic tone, but the lyrics are counter to this, once again themes of self improvement and encouragement. As the 4th song it's like a pattern, energetic movement feeling songs as the 1st and 3rd, while thought provoking ones on the 2nd and 4th. The outro is a change of genre, the electric piano is otherworldy and strangely doesn't fit maybe the part of the song I don't like, feels like it extends the song longer than really needed. Yearnin'Learnin' is a energetic song, again following that pattern of songs, the breakdown of brass gies the song a lot more power in those moments where the singer is missing and enhance the singer when they're there. The technical ability of the drums on Reasons stands out at the start, along with the brass and bass giving the punches to those moments with the singer. Africano is probably the one I'll have the hardest time describing, the progression of the wind instruments and the percussion at the start gives a completely different tone compared to the rest of the song, calm and trance-like. Then it moves into the Soul genre, the fast tempo drums, bass and guitar chords. It gives it a purpose like it has to go somewhere it's moving itself. The brass having it's solo sections just adds so much more to this giving it lyrics without the need of a singer. See the Light sounds like the culmination of all of these tracks, the build-up of every single instrument used in this album and the theme of self-growth and helping others in hard times. The ending being a village playing and singing instruments together kinda ties the whole thing together. Overall the themes, the instruments and just how much mastery Earth, Wind & Fire has over them is on full display in this album.

70s soul / funk which is a genre i know pretty much nothing about. such a fun introduction! i don’t know if i’ll personally come back to this album but there are some songs that felt really joyful like “shining star” and “all about love” will probably go in my romantic playlist if i ever make one.

loved it

Loved the album!! i would rate it a 7,4/10 just because i think the songs were kind of extensive, which led to some of them being repetitive, but it’s a very enthusiastic, funky and fun album to listen to :)

Fun and funky, I love this band but I dont think this is their best album

Fun album!! I love funk!

Rhythmically romantic

cool and funky!! LOVED “yearnin learnin” and obviously “sining star”. definitely such a staple and prime example for tight funk and soul music.

A great band. From the first note, a great mixture of funk, soul and Motown sound. A very lively album.

Now that’s a way to start an album. Love the synth and funk fusion

This was such a great album for going back to work for the first time in 2 weeks! Shining star is such a great intro to this album, and it was such a fun experience the whole way through!

Really good

This is, in fact, my jam.

Great album and the two times I've seen them live they put on a fantastic show.

• This is one of the 16 albums I listened to last time I tried this. The album didn't really stand out to me back then, but I already know I'll enjoy it more this time around. • Shining Star is a classic and starts the album off with a bang • The title track is a nice change of pace, having a bit of a slower vibe sandwiched between two high energy tracks • EWF's bass playing is always amazing, but Happy Feelin' is really standing out • All About Love is the slowest EWF song I've heard. It sounds almost like a theme from a film, especially once the horns kick in. The ending is a really interesting sound, very different from anything else I've heard from them • Reasons is the first song on the album that hasn't really done anything for me, which is pretty surprising since it's the second most listened to track on the album • Africano is a really cool instrumental • See the Light is another song that didn't stand out much, which is a shame for the album's closer. That doesn't take away from the highs the rest of the album had. Favourite song: Shining Star, maybe Happy Feelin'?

Quite the palate cleanser from the last album. Some nice upbeat tunes!

A beautiful palate cleanser and a welcome, celebratory, uplifting listen. It's sadly not my genre but still merits a 4.

One of the most consistent soul aöbums out there. Not the greatest hits on this, but every song is consistent and great. One of my favourites

That was easy! Sometimes I look at the album choice and think, oh this is gonna be a slog, but not with these boys! Always loved EWF and always will. Joyest music and vocals and oh such great production, always make your system sound ace!

i really enjoyed this album!! definitely will be revisiting this in the future :)

Fun and poppy

Great album. Love the sounds and the moods and the vibes. Songs added to the playlist: Shining Star That’s the Way of the World All About Love (First Inpression) Africano

Very groovy and I liked all the songs. 9/10

I don’t typically listen to Jazz, but I did like this album. I listened to all but two songs, hence why this is only getting four stars instead of five.

i love ewf

This is peak cleaning the house music

my first 4 star! this album is so fun i love it. favorite songs are reasons and see the light.

Can you dig it? I dig it.

loved it!!!

🕺🏻

Favorite Songs: That’s the Way of the World, Reasons, All About Love Least Favorite Song: Africano Just makes me want to break out into a little dance. So fun from start to finish, and I now fully understand why these guys were so popular back in the day. Will definitely be checking out more of their stuff.

This is definitely my favorite album i’ve listened to so far.

R&B/Soul, Jazz. Bu türde fazla bilgi sahibi değildim, hoşuma gitmeye başladı açıkçası.

Very funky. Reminds me of my childhood, reminds me of home. Optimistic and full of love. Philip Bailey voice is unmatched. Soul music personified with touches of Afro-futurism. The outros on a couple of the tracks really lean into that. 9/10 I wish they leaned more into it though personally

Very very fun! 4.5* on a distracted listen, if I had to round it would be down to 4, but definitely worth a repeat!

it makes me love r&b, good vibe, love the instruments

Fortunately, soul will never grow old for me. This is such a funky album - I'm defo storing it away for when the warmer months reappear or when I'm in need of a mood booster. Liked songs: - Thats the Way of the World (chill groove that I could see being a go-to chill out song for me) - Happy Feelin' (Awesome instrumentals) - Reasons (BRING BACK HIGH PITCHED MALE VOICES! What a song) - Africano (Every good album needs at least one fully instrumental song. Had me feeling like I'd just stumbled into a random tent at a festival that just happens to be playing the best music I've ever heard) Favourite song: Between Reasons and Africano

Solid album with the grooves you'd expect from Earth, Wind & Fire. There were so many moments with only instrumentation that were an absolute beaut

not a musical genre i'm usually familiar with but it was a really good album! every song had something diff to offer. my favs are shining star and that's the way of the world.

It was a vibe lwk.

Dug that

I liked it, very fun and interesting.

EW&F are awesome. This album isn't great, but it's solid. Shining Star is a classic and will make the playlist.

Listened 12/13/25 830am

Some tracks just knock it out of the park with tempo and harmony- while others are just a litany of high notes that make you reach for that skip button.

Not typically my style, but I liked it more than I thought I would. I also love that the album was short. Auto +.5. Takes it to 3.5.

Not my jam really but it’s a good listen.

Funky as hell and I love it - some serious bangers in there as well. Maybe just because it’s on right now but those drums in one of the songs reminded me of I’m a celeb. Liked it quite a bit. Thought the song where the guy just talks to you for like 2 mins was actually quite relaxing. Specific rating - 4.4 Fav song - reasons Least fav- see the light

Really good mix of genres. Will happily listen again

Hard to imagine funk and soul getting much better than this

Groovy Loved all the hits

Cruising down I15 about 10 over the speed limit blasting this shit. Roads are a little icy, but not that bad. Car in front of me going 7 over is camping the left lane. I ignore him and just keep maintaining my speed and lane and let him safely move out of the way. The car happens to be the same color, make, and model as what my boss drives. I think nothing of it. 30 seconds later, boss man texts me "What are you doing up so early?" Honestly, this is such a vibe that I didn't even notice that my boss was ahead of me. Would I have changed anything? Probably not. If anything I would have been more aggressive. But how could I drive aggressively listening to this? The music reminded me a lot of Catch A Fire, but somehow had both more upbeat and slower songs. The album still felt cohesive. Such a good album.

Not a lot to say other than in this particular genre of music EW&F stand amongst the giants. Wonderful album.

See the light. Parece mario kart

Sounds great. 70s and funky

Now this is how you make music

smooth uplifting album!

Groovy, vibey lil album. Starting off strong with the classic Shining Star. I didn't save a ton of songs off the album individually (Only Shining Star and Happy Feelin') but I could definitely see myself putting the whole album back on again in the future.

Nice allrounder

Funky as hell, got me schmovin. Fave track: Shining Star

Soul disco vibes

As someone who loves sampling the classics, this album was right in my wheelhouse. It would be hard for someone to not dance when this album comes on. Absolutely a great album!

These guys are so frickin cool. Great arrangements, good songs, great wind section. It was fun to listen to songs by them that I've not heard before.

I will essentially never seek out funk music, but this was good stuff. Really glad this album's on the list. 4.2

More “accessible” funk than a lot of George Clinton’s work, but funky enough to avoid being annoying pop.

Looks like all of us were biased, all of us were wrong. Great stuff

This album was groovy and smooth with a blend of soul and jazz. It's uplifting and laid back.

An album with a little bit of everything. You've got a radio mainstream hits. You've got some jamming going on in the back half. Overall, it's a great balance for a full record. Big fan.

Vibes: 5/5 Instruments: 4/5 Production: 3/5 Emotional Value: 3/5 Storytelling: 3/5 Stand Outs: All About Love, Africano Overall Rating: 3.6

Brilliant reference album. Great soul n funk with hints of jazz n prog. Outstanding musicians vocals horns keys guitar and definitely drums n bass. I'm not to familiar with their repertoire but they are v comparable with the Average White Band, who are also in the list. Good varied album perhaps just lacks a standout track. 4+++

Once they made us do an arrangement of Shining Star in my Catholic high school choir. Imagine approximately 40 white girls—no, actually, I'm sorry, stop imagining. Don’t do that to yourself. Anyway, you'll understand why even thinking about that particular song has filled me with a visceral dread and repulsion for years... imagine my surprise upon learning/rediscovering that in its original context it actually IS kind of a bop after all. So, extra star to the whole album just for overwriting some extremely unpleasant memories associated with that particular track. 👍 Some other pretty good stuff happening here too lol

Groovy baby

Yup. Solid. Never listened to a complete album of theirs and I’m happy the album generator gave us one.

We stan the White brothers in this house.

4.3 Groove city. Adding some of these to my cooking playlist so I can shake my hips while sautéing some onions. Impossible to hear EWF and be sad

Breathe of fresh air holy shit. Maybe it was the switch up after only rock albums but this album was nearly perfect to me in every way. I know it’s still November but only thing I can compare this album to is the first time I nutted 4.1

The jazziest of funk bands, or perhaps the funkiest of jazz bands. It's not my favourite EWF album but, having been introduced to them via their cover of "Got to Get You Into My Life" and "September" I listened to later albums before this one. It does contain "Shining Star" and title track "That's the Way of the World" but there are other excellent songs here and whether dance numbers or ballads, they all groove. The rhythm section is incredibly tight, the horns huge and driving, and the vocals from Maurice White, his brother Verdine and Philip Bailey are superb, weaving and winding in and out of each other. Maurice White's experience as a drummer is evident in the syncopation. It's great, and they did better albums...

forgot to rate this one when i listened — hard to argue with earth wind and fire. i liked almost every song on this album

You know I love a short album!!!! And a dancey dance moment!! We got a little jazzy on Africano, I got a little worried, but this was fun overall and a real breeze.

Excellent

Took me way too long to hear my first EWaF album, this was really great. Funk is something I really enjoy just based off the instrumentals a lot of the time, this being the case here with the groovy bass and smooth guitar playing to match. The overall energy of the album was energetic mostly but with some smooth jazz moments which makes for a great combination. Love the vocals as well, the variation from the smooth falsetto in the more slower paced songs mostly (other than some which had this despite being quicker paced, very upbeat songs) and the deeper chest voices in other parts with of course the powerful harmonies all make the songs great. Favourites: Shining Star, title track, Happy Feelin’, Yearnin’ Learnin’, Africano and see the light (pretty much all of them). Overall, 8/10.

enjoyably funky

Mahtista tanssimusaa! Tykkäsin tosi paljon instrumentaaliosiosta, etenkin Happy Feelin' saksofoni-sooloista.

Funky and groovy. Classic Earth Wind and Fire sound with all songs that were new to me.

I've come to realize that I quite enjoy Earth, Wind, & Fire's sound. I've listened to a couple of their albums recently and have enjoyed all of them. I'll have to make more of an effort to dig into their discography. Good album with some excellent songs.

Hot damn!

So funky fun

Classic funk.

I don’t think you can be in a bad mood listening to Earth, Wind & Fire. Ya dig.

I don't know...don't got much to say on this one. They're good songs.

First EW&F album I've ever listened to. Took it through 4 spins. Some of this is really fun, some of this I kind of fall asleep to. It kept growing on me with subsequent listens though - even the slower tracks. It's probably a 3.5 for me, but the positivity and good vibes push it to 4.

This list has a suprising number of movie soundtracks. Previously I knew Earth, Wind, & Fire as the 'Spetember' band. This album is infectiously groovy. Shining Star and All About Love were the standouts.

Such a fun album.

To be honest, I only remember the first 2 tracks then I zoned off. But... it was a nice zoning off so I'm going to give this a 4.

☀️

The fact that this group is usually treated as a "two-song artist" is a crime against music. Massively underrated, kick ass songs. Funk was never as fun as when Water decided not to show up to rehearsal.

noooice, i like it

it’s a great album, the only problems are that the longer songs tend to overstay their welcome, but that’s it

EW&F have so much energy and great horns. Fun album

Groovy but songs similar to eachother

this album was so groovy and funky it knocked the rocks out of my socks

Classic!

Its good disco. Kinda got tired but a good album to return to. 4/5

Jako simpatičan album super sviranje

first two songs

The world does not deserve this much funk. But we are grateful.

The faster songs are pretty great. Slow songs can be a little boring.

Not my cup of tea

Loved how diverse the tracks got

It's funky, it's 70s, it definitely sounds like them. I see how this was maybe the more radio-friendly foil to Parliament back then. Shining Star is definitely the "hit" and probably the best song too. Overall I feel it just wasn't as good as some of their other albums, but I did enjoy it.

EWF starts off with two of their all timers "Shining Star" and the title track. The rest of the album even though it doesn't live up to the first two tracks are for the most part pretty good. (8.25) ★★★★

Really cool. Funky soul 4 stars

Amazing.

Alright, must be first funk and disco album, these guys are legends for sure. I find the first 2 songs significantly more memorable than the rest 6, but still is some solid music right here. Not even sure what to rate it, 4 stars seems a bit too much and 3 stars too little - a bit torn on this one. For RYM - 3.5/5.0

That's The Way Of The World was quite refreshing. I positively recognized "Shining Star" and that made me feel warm and fuzzy. Booties may be shaken.

Quality

Seven out of eight songs really worked for me, and the one exception isn't bad (just not interesting enough for me). Some songs have weird tails that feel incongruous but don't break immersion. It's a solid soulful album with some grooves and feel-good optimism.

Superb album - full of funky delights

si estuviera haciendo una pelicula estadounidense de los 80-90s con una escena del protagonista entrando a la ciudad de los angeles en un descapotable, usaria este album

Pure nostalgia. Great from top to bottom.

groovy

Shining Star instantly reminded me of that scene in Austin Powers. Everything else was just so 70s and I was there for it.

Don't think I've listened to single Earth, Wind & Fire album in full, it's a very good and funky album. I need to listen to more of them. Some great instrumentals as well, damn.

Nice groovy music, fun to listen to

Shining star - 6/10 Title Track - 8/10 Happy Feelin' - 7/10 All About Love - 8/10 Yearnin Learnin - 9/10 Reasons - 10/10 Africano - 6/10 See the Light - 7/10

They're a big deal for a reason. This album was solid front to back. From the hits to the B-Sides. Happy Feelin was a great introduction to me. Also, the bass lines in this album are so think and rich. Might have to put this one back on if I want to move around

Shining Star is just one hell of a way to start your day. Which is what I did listening to this on the way to work. Simpsons: Yes

Came for the Earth and Wind, stayed for the Fire.

If Earth, Wind, and Fire had only released this album, it would have been enough to cement their status as Soul & Funk pioneers. It's difficult to overstate the impact Shining Star has had on music. The first opening bars are iconic and work as the album's thesis. That's The Way of the World might be one of the most moving songs ever composed. Happy Feelin' is as full of joy as the title suggests. All About Love has the most lush instrumentation of the album with a horn section that elevates the song. Yearnin' Learnin' is the exemplification of the band's signature sound. Reasons is another album highlight, that encapsulates what the sunrise must sound like. Africano and See the Light propel the album into the African rhythms that are foundational to the genre. This was Earth, Wind, and Fire six albums deep into their career, and they were just getting started.

EWF is always fun, right? everyone loves them. this is a fun little romp through the big styles of rnb from the mid 70s, and the mid 70s may just be the best decade for rnb. no way this would've sucked. you got soul, funk, a little disco, some fusion occasionally popping up as an influence. my favorite song is the instrumental Africano deserves to be one of the 1001? probably, but if it's included, another one of their higher concept ones from the late 70s should to

The funky is alive with this one. Great album. I feel like there are some other gems in their back catalogue as well.

Earth, Wind & Fire always have the best melodies. Harmonic singing backed up by amazing funk & groove, or is it the other way around?

Honestly didnt expect much going into this, but its insanely groovy and calming and bound to get you in a good mood.An absolute staple of the disco movement and one ill be returning to if im in the mood to dance 8.1

Timeless

Way sexier jazz than I had imagined. I didnt know these guys got down like that

I generally love funk! This was a fun album

hell ya

Its Earth Wind and Fire so you know it will have some great tracks.

Nice album, full of funk and uplifting music. Loved the instrumentation and it really was just a fun vibe. Nothing super deep or thought provoking but not everything needs to be

In 1976 Len Houmous caused a real drama back stage at an Earth Wind & Fire gig. He’d been drinking lager and eating curry all day. He thought it would be funny to try to fart on a candle. Set fire to the entire dinner table. Luckily followed through and put the flames out. He brushed it off so wel. Just looked around the room and said ‘Earth, Wind & Fire - That’s The Way Of The World’ 4.4 7/8 Africano

Very Motown vibes. Easy to listen to. I did it the disservice of listening in the shower so can't comment on lyrics much. Overall enjoyed it.

Everything here is a BOP. Orchestration and instrumentation is great across the board (listen to Reasons and tell me I'm wrong!) and the singing is soulful and more than competent. I love the weird jazzy experimental synths on All About Love. Africano goes hard as the album's instrumental banger, and the title track is a funky jam. Great album, would spin again no question. May need to add this one to my collection.

I really enjoyed this listen and found it hard not to be tapping me feet along to the songs. Good mix of disco funk and soulful ballads and the quintessential groove I expected throughout. Lyrically hit or miss (some gems but a lot where the words didn’t feel meaningful and it was all about the groove) and the album ends a bit rocky but all in all it’s a great album. Standout tracks for me were Reasons and Shining Star.

This was fun. Heavy disco feel was more entertaining than I expected.

Funky to the core

Always had a place for early 70s funk/Soul. I would have had more on my personal list. Good band, much better than they get labelled probably because they moved into a more disco sound and all that, good album 4 Star

Apart from the great songs, the synth parts surprised me.

I prefer their More disco albums over this one, Although you can still definitely appreciate the musical skill on display here

Rocks more than I would have guessed.

Full of bops, and some surprising experimental pieces. Definitely worthy of a place on this list.

Funk is one of my favorite genres of music, but I prefer the sound of modern funk more to this. Still a great album though

Great musicianship, creativity, joy, love, and love. Some all-time hits. Not all great though.

C’est groovy tout ça

Tellement groovy et soulful, excellent!

Classic Earth, Wind & Fire. The one album you should own for this R&B powerhouse.

Could not stop bobbing my head

A little corny, but charming nonetheless.

Börjar riktigt bra och härligt funkigt. Mattas av lite under andra halvan dock med ett par utfyllnadslåtar, men sammanvägt kan jag nog ändå sträcka mig till en svag fyra.

This is such a hard band to review sometimes cause at the end of the day they just harmonize so well and they sound so angelic and relaxing. The only complaint I have is that there are a few skips/filler songs that don’t add a lot to the album but they don’t really water down the album cause there are so few of them on such a short album. As always I prefer when an album has some genre variety, and while you won’t find that on this album, you won’t be thinking about it cause you will be so distracted by the heavenly music that Earth, Wind & Fire continue to create. I also think this album is heavily carried by Shining Star but that is ok, it’s literally a flawless song.

I've known Earth Wind & Fire since I was a teenager. I couldn't appreciate their music back then. I didn't know what to do with funk and soul. That has since changed. The album I'm listening to now for the first time is pretty good. I find the ubiquitous disco sound of the time a little annoying. There are also a few very strong tracks on the album. I'll listen to it again. 4/5

the fire in the name is accurate

It's good and has a great variety of songs. Instrumentals are the highlight. Favourite Song: Africano Honourable Mention: Yearnin' Learnin'

Cool vibe

4.5/5 Wonderful album

If there is any disco collective that is able to stand the test of time, it would be Earth, Wind & Fire. They always tend to release banger after banger and this album proves it’s no different. Also makes me think of Superbad too. But I really like this album. Definitely a staple in the disco genre! Favorite Tracks: Shining Star, That’s The Way of the World, Happy Feelin’, All About Love Rating: 4/5

Funky, fantastic, fun, fellatio, furries, frick, frock knock on that clock

So much fun!

One of the tightest rhythm sections in music. Sadly this band is know for wedding and club dance tunes and not respected enough for their musicianship. They have better albums but this one wasn't that bad.

Classicccccc

Awesome

Forgot how funky they were

Reasons is one of Earth Wind and Fire's best songs, easily the best on this album. Undeniably funky soul.

4.0 - Very Good

Love a bit of Earth wind and fire... but where's the water?? I've heard a couple of their songs before so I might be biased, but guessing that's what makes them actually famous and having an impact on music

Why couldn't I have gotten this album in September

I knew it would be cool, and it was cool.

Groovy and smooth R/B and soul, virtuosic playing, but still accessible from a pop perspective.

thoughts: this was fantastic. goes so much deeper than “shining star” (which is great on its own). loved the slower stuff, really got into the celebratory tone of the upbeat tracks. i was very pleasantly surprised by this. songs: “that’s the way of the world”, “all about love (first impression)”, “africano” rating: 8.7/10

Earth, Wind & Fire are alright, not exactly earth-shattering but enjoyable all the same.

It's absolutely joyous. Such easy listening. Favourite tracks first listen was Shining Star, Yearnin' Learnin' and Reasons. Would definitely revisit. 4 Stars.

I love EW&F!!!!! And this is such a great album of theirs! It's so fun, it's so interesting, they work so well together. By this album, they were already a well-oiled machine. Love love.

Groovy. Favorite track: That's The Way Of The World 3.5/5

Shining Star is such a high energy start, and then go into just...good groove.

certified bop

Not my usual type of music but still a great listen and very enjoyable

This band were the pinnacle of smooth & groove, the album is great and to think EW&F hadn't even peaked commercially at this point of their career. The musical arrangements in all of these tracks are impressive, they had a real dark art of creating a massive big sound with the brass whilst constantly driven by a very subtle but super funky bass line. After this album the band would go on to make some of the biggest danceable "bangers" ever released.

This is jazz and funk at its best So great, so fine They became even better later on in the 70s

Funky as always

Really nice funky album, quite fun to listen to

Strong album with a lot of diversity and for me, the main message of the album is love and positivity. It had disco-esque songs that are fun to sing and dance to, then the slower songs giving the classic R&B. First two songs are obviously the most notable ones. All About Love was interesting, maybe my least favorite. Not sure I understood the last 30+ seconds of it. Didn’t seem to fit exactly. But overall, I’d listen to it again!

Oh no, I'm a fan of disco. This album's pretty generic as disco goes, but nothing really turned me off, so a 4.

Hell yeah, funky af

First two tracks are absolute classics, which alone would probably be enough to push it to a 3 - then you add in the afro-r&b-fusion-funk aspects of much of the rest of the album and it's strong... Although/but while I am very pro Phil Bailey (if you are so jaded that you don't like Easy Lover then get bent) .... sometimes his nonstop falsetto is a bit much on mellow tunes. i.e. I'm not a huge fan of their 3rd hit "Reasons" Still an excellent listen - awesome musicians, good songs, and coming in at the right length (clocking in under 40 minutes). Keeper. 7/10 4 stars.
