Reviews (page 8 of 8)

There is a lot of variety on the album. Good songwriting . But just couldn't get into it.

Boring

Man I’m not mad at this at all. Never heard of them. Cool they did that song “Alright”.

Yeah, it’s BritPop but it’s not. There’s some nice stuff on here but I’m not going to be hankering for this album on my death bed. Meh. It’s alright.

I don't see what all the fuss is about?

Int olidligt thou

couldn’t really get into it. not my thing.

It was just okay.

Sex! Sometimes it's good (not like this album), sometimes it's bad (like this album). Wouldn't listen to this again. Only giving 2 stars because I like instrumental parts.

This would have been a much better album if they just fired the singer into the sun. I really liked the instrumentals but could not jive with the singers voice and it kind of ruined it for me

DNF. This is the kind of stuff that makes me question this list. Seems kind of generic, erring on the side of "this is just noise".

God this thing logjammed my list up for days because I couldn’t get through it. I don’t know why but this annoyed the shingles off me.

Hated this at first but only disliked by the end. Like a baby between Muse, Oasys and Smashing Pumpkins that is much worse than any of those bands

Really just not my bag.

In It For The Money is an ok alt-rock/brit-pop album that didn't really grab me. There is really not too much to say, another unnecessary double album that didn't need to be. If only Supergrass knew how to curate their songs for this album. Best: Richard III Worst: Sex!

Agh I listened to this across a few sittings and probably didn't give it enough attention at all but really I just found it a bit bleh. Nothing standing out as particularly impressive, exciting or unusual and the words blended into nothing for me. I didn't mind it it was kind of nice but again I cba to go back and listen properly again which tells me all I needed to know I think.

Didn’t love it or hate it. Some interesting bits strewn throughout. I don’t think I’d listen again.

I think one Supergrass album is enough, and that one Supergrass album shouldn't be this one; it should be the brattish "I Should Coco."

Kept waiting for a song I recognized as I didn't know the band. Never got there. Looked up all their songs afterwards and the two songs I know are on their other album... wah-wah.

Every song sounded the same

Too much super. Not enough grass.

In it for the money is a great intro, smacks like a smackeroon. Richard III is an early college rock mix with pyschedlic influences. Tonight through Late in the day were forgettable. G song again sounds like a college rock song, but honestly is a bit boring. There's a reason Sun Hits the Sky is the most listened to song on this album, Good song but can only give it like a 6/10. Going out sounds similar to late beatles song, just not as good 6/10. It's not me is relaxing af, love the folkies vibe 9/10. Cheapskate is okay 6/10.

Sounded like a mix of the artic monkeys and the black crowes.

Generic af

An unnecessary, aimless Oasis knockoff

hupsuttelijat paskovat minun summary osion indie mitalini.

First time listening. It's fine. It may just be that Britpop rubs me the wrong way. I don't deny that it's well-performed. Lead vocalist Gaz Coombes sounds like Billy Corgan at times, especially on "Richard III." The track "Late in the Day" stood out most.

Lead singer sounds too close to Billy Corgan on certain songs

Seemed like something I should’ve liked more

Ok album but nothing special

I couldn't finish it. Super bland, really not my thing.

A somewhat unique entry on the list of 1,001. You see, THIS album is an incredibly generic offering by a forgettable Britpop band of the 80s-90s. Unlike many other albums on this list, this one is completely justified in being here and I am glad that I was made to listen to it. It definitely wasn't a false promise that it would be enjoyable.

Started off promising wiht opening song but not really a fan of the overall album.

I just do not care about this stuff. I feel there is a disproportionate amount of "Britpop" albums on this list. Just kind of boring.

This was just fine, background noise.

I was pleasantly surprised by this album. At first. At first, this sounded exactly like the alternative rock albums (which i loved) that were extremely popular 5 to 10 years after this album was released. But then a bit pop-rock. And then... very british

Sounded great in the beginning. Fizzled by the end.

Ei kyl oikeen lähtenyt tää. En saanut otetta 2/5

Ei ihan lähtenyt. Tuntuu, että listalla on hieman liikaa ysärin brittirockia (britpop yms). Kuitenkin siinä on kyse pitkälti tyylilajien revivalista, joten näin suuri edustus kyseenalaista.

More like Averagegrass

I am feeling very lukewarm on this one but G-Song is kinda fun. Very much expected Going Out to go "if you want to destroy my sweater" and was irrationally disappointed when it didn't. It's Not Me is vaguely interesting. Sometimes I Make You Sad has Primus vibes and I'm sorry but I have never been able to enjoy Primus. Not much else to say.

It's music, for sure. 4/10

Odd report on this one. In all ways , I found it to be a decent background set. As I listened I decided I would not bother to listen to it ever again

Not amazing, I wouldn't listen to it by choice, most of the songs are inoffensive though.

This started ok but got real old by the end. Was a 3 but ended up being a 2 because it got annoying.

Lotta instruments. Pretty bland American rock. Two in row that just don’t get me feeling anything. Could imagine day drinking in a dive bar somewhere to some of these. 2.5, but rounding down because I just listened to the Stones and this does little different and it came thirty years after.

Nah. 5/10

Some parts remind me of the Strokes. That’s all I can say.

Not my favorite, it was okay nonetheless

Not bad just not that interesting.

Ok. Long. Found it hard to get into. 2.5-ish

Interesting album, didn’t grab me

Not a great album, much better bands and albums exist from this era.

I always think I'll like Supergrass more than I ever actually do...

Muy flojo. Aparte de "Going Out" nada interesante. En la edición extendida hay una versión acústica de "Caught by the fuzz" y "Sitting up straight" pero poco más.

Já ouvi músicas melhores deles.

An ok alternative album. None of the songs are nearly as good as their main hit alright. This album was cohesive and felt stylistically the same but it wasn’t too exciting. 5.3/10

* Can see why it's on the list. Fine, nothing particularly memorable

What 90s rock wanted 80s rock to be.

Maybe there's something wrong with me but this one just did not grab me

While I listened to the television album first, this one sounds exactly like them except a little quicker paced. Still not impressed.

Listened Before? N Ah yes, 1990s Britpop/rock. Not my favorite. Pros: It's not unlisten-able, and I get the sense that if I listened to it several times I might even start to be okay with it. It's a bit trippy and acidy at times in a good way. Can see how the style influenced later American and British acts. Cons: Droning, repetitive, noisy, lyrics that are difficult to understand. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Cheapskate (a little groovier than the rest)

I have to say, I was born in the 90s didn't grow up in it really. I really don't care for a lot of the music from it. Especially this sort of alt-vaguely grunge sounding stuff. This one isn't nearly as bad as the others on this list, and it has its own almost folk sound. It's listenable for sure.

I couldn't stand to listen past the 4th track, it's just terrible.

This album is perfectly fine. A bit rock and roll, decent tunes, but an all time must hear classic? i don't think so. It reminds me of a slightly less rockin' You Am I. it was OK while I was listening to it, but I can't remember a single tune. And it really long. Much longer than it needs to be.

In it for the money is ok single (80% is outro), but would I be sad if I had died without hearing it? No

Well, this is awkward. I feel like I should like this a lot better. It's basically pop classicism dressed up in late 90s attitude, meaning the vocals have a certain punk by way of grunge attitude, a certain snottiness. To be clear, I have nothing against that per se. Supergrass have clearly listened to a lot of music from the late 60s and early 70s and they've bothered to learn to play their instruments, and they're going for a relatively wide stylistic range, which theoretically already puts them way ahead of most of their contemporaries. And In It For The Money even sounds good, in terms of production--it's warm and balanced. But Supergrass doesn't have anything really new to say. They haven't figured out a way to make this music from the past truly their own. It's a pastiche without a point. None of the hooks or melodies really stick. It's pleasant enough going by, but I retained absolutely nothing. But at the same time, I'm reluctant to give this a poor rating. It's highly professional in terms of overall musicianship and production, and some real effort, thought and craft was put into it. It's obvious that these guys are playing and singing their hearts out. There is plenty of perspiration here but precious little inspiration. It's a shame, and really there's no one to blame, really. If you'd added in that X factor, In In For The Money might have truly been great.

Boring. Aged bad.

its okay. not my cup of tea but i get why people would like it. its very british (not a bad thing) 2.5

i just wanted alright 12 times

Simply could not get into this. I’m getting tired of Brit pop

long. some songs were pretty okay: late in the day, g-song, cheapskate, sometimes i make you sad, and the last track. the rest i didn't care about. 2.5.

Overrated as hell. Nothing special at all.

Not for me, only listened once, but didn’t get it

Likes the first two tracks, In It for the Money and Richard III, the latter of which is a banger. Track 3 ok as well. But the rest of the album faded into generic British 90s alt that just bored me. Listened twice and had the same reaction each time. As an album it was a snooze fest except for the songs noted.

Meh super G alright

Fairly usual Supergrass stuff. Not as good as the white covered album

Bland.

I know their name but couldn't name any tunes. I'd heard 'Sun Meets The Sky' before. They're alright, wasn't that bothered overall. 'Sex!' was funny AF though 😅. 2/5

I mean, this is so far from one of the best albums of all time. Inane.

Grew on me a bit and I liked a few songs, but still tough to judge. Too long and it feels/sounds much older than it is, which threw me off a bit. High 2 Saved: In It For The Money, Sun Hits The Sky, Caught By The Fuzz

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Tonight, It's Not Me, Cheapskate Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Not a good sign of my enjoyment of the type of music a band is shooting for when the 3 songs I save aren't in the top half of most streamed on the album. Just came off a little too brash and noisy, and I gave this album a LOT of attempts to grow on me. A 2 feels harsh, but a 3 feels generous. A true 2.5 that I'm going to round down because score inflation.

Eh, kinda boring. Generic British punk rock.

Mostly meh

Not bad, but not really my style

If I wanted to listen to the smashing pumpkins or the presidents of the united states of america, I would listen to them. Not this faux version

This is so bad. I don’t know who actually likes this.

A second Supergrass album is just nuts. They were only ever a singles band.

I like “Pumping On Your Stereo” and “Caught By The Fuzz” but this album is dreadful. Tom.

Did not like it

Supergrass ... I thought I recognized that name but can't place any songs by them. Then I remembered that I have actually seen them live - they were the opening band for Pearl Jam at a show I saw in 2000. And for some reason I can't remember anything about them. Upon listening to this all the way through - I now realize why I don't remember anything. These guys (or at least on this album, which I assume is considered a good one of theirs) are just very generic with a singer whose voice is very annoying. There is just not anything about this that grabs me and makes me want to listen to it again. Musically, vocally, lyrically - not once did it create any interest for me. Also considering 1997 is the same year that incredible albums came out from other UK artists like Radiohead (OK Computer) and Blur (self titled) - it seems these guys were just so far behind their peers. Also, I can't even place how they influenced anyone else. Why are they on this list? Sorry, not for me. Liked songs on Spotify: 0/12 Rating: 1/5 (should be zero)

Once this slog was over, a few similar songs autoplayed. Some from this band, some from others. All of them were better than this entire album. And for an already crappy genre, that's saying something.

i could tell this would be boring from the cover

Christ, Britpop is shit isn't it

Boring and gay and retarded. Spotify listing these losers as one of the most important bands of the 90s is like saying Ronald Reagan was one of the most important causes of the USSR collapsing. They didn’t do shit they were just there while it was already happening.

I was completely unfamiliar with this group, but now I see why. Super grass is near the bottom of the Britpop totem pole for me.

how have I already gotten 2 supergrass albums?!

onrustig kut album

Really just too noisy and uncreative. Not willing to listen to that again, lol

I wish this goofus Robert Dimery would recognize that just because he really dug an album when he was 19 doesn't mean it justifies inclusion on this list. Like, I get that I have my own biases - especially from when I was younger and more impressionable and full of hormones - that might lead me to fill a list of music you must hear before you DIE with uber-sincere Lillith Fair candidates like Ani DiFranco & Tori Amos and grunge nostalgia deep cuts like the Toadies and Harvey Danger. But I WOULDN'T claim any of that was music everyone should listen to. Robert Dimery, tho...he's certain you need ANOTHER random ass Brit alt-rock band barely anyone remembers, who mostly sound like Oasis (who already sound like a shitty, whinier take on the Beatles so we're venturing into photocopy of a photocopy territory here) but somehow more boring and also worse.

But low, I'm a bit tired

Once again, not sure why this album was included.

There's better Supergrass stuff.

Fav song: It's Not Me Unfortunately I found this album to be absolutely dreadful, which is a shame because I really like Gaz Coombes' solo stuff a lot! I didn't properly like a single song on here really - It's Not Me was the one I thought was the best, but man, the bar was low. Supergrass - and this kind of Britpop in general is something I've never been able to personally stomach. I find it a bit bland and lacking any meaningful attitude.

This is the kind of music that makes me turn off my radio. Despite the few hits from that era, I find it very difficult to listen to.

Nein! Nichts für mich! Die schreien nur!

Gear: Aür Audio Aurora Artwork: 💩💩💩🎶 Produktion: 💩 Musik: 💩 Wertung: 💩/5

Kinda boring. Didn't do much for me

Feels very past its time yet its from 1997.

Its not for me. founded extremely boring *yawn*

Did not enjoy their effort

Bravo - you suceeded in channeling the aweful feeling of spending a pale and badly fed youth under english weather into the musical form. hard listening. captures all that I find endlessly boring 'same' and annoying about noisy Brit Pop with a whiney edge. They did have one good uplifting (light) song once - it was called "alright' and we have the film Clueless to thank for bringing a momentary joy from these guys. Proof the sun does sometimes come out in England. another crap selection for this list of 1001. nothing exceptional here.

The 90s sucked. Why do you keep tormenting me with 90s albums. That can’t be that many great ones that one should listen to be one dies.

No thanks

in it for the money, caught by the fuzz, sitting up straight - good cheapskate - lil fun sometimes i make you sad - should've never made the album sex! - gross

Another boring and uninspired mid 90s britpop group. Fast losing interest in this challenge, all just different shades of the same garbage.

Oof. Super bad. Sounds like ChatGPT wrote a classic rock album: formulaic and uninspired. Nothing memorable here. Probably made a lot of money at the time tho

Meh. Let me take this time to recommend Technotronic’s Pump Up The Jam album.

Not bad but please give me something other than rock

1. in it for the money - 0 2. richard III - 1 3. tonight - 1 4. late in the day - 1 5. g zong - 1 6. zun hitz the zky - 0 7. going out - 0 8. itz not me - 1 9. cheapzake - 0 10. you can zee me - 0 11. hollouu little rain - 0 12. zometimez i make you a little zad - 0 13. caught by the fuzz - 1 14. zitting up ztraight - 1 15. melanie daviz - 0 16. odd - 1 17. uuait for the zun - 1 18. nothing morez - 0 19. zez - 0 20. 20 foot halo - 0 21. je zuiz votre zucre - 0

Generic crap.

this is fucKING WANK

Look, just not my thing.

Never liked them.

Some good some bad. Meh.

Liikaa torvia alussa, liikaa massaa muuten

Erikoinen tapaus.

Definitely a 90’s band All I heard was shades of Oasis, and the rest of Brit pop The more I listened the more I heard the Foo Fighters No thanks

1.5/5?

Nothing distinctive here. Pop pap.

Did not enjoy

Britpop has never been my cup of tea as a rule, and this was really no different. I liked 'Wait for the Sun' the most, it was a bit more chill than the rest of the album's sound.

Schmutz! Schmutz! Schmutz! Schmutz! Schmutz! Schlecht gemischt, Genre: Radio. Ekelhaft. Sometimes I make you Sad???? YOU ALWAYS MAKE ME SAD mit so einem Vebrechen an meinem Ohr. 1* Weg damit
