Reviews (page 6 of 8)

This is a pretty solid album, but didn't wow me too much. None of the songs really tickled me, but they have a good sound for sure.

I liked this! Retro vibes. I would have guessed it’s older than the 90s.

Didn't wow me but wasn't awful - 3 stars

Grungy and loud, it sounds surprisingly fresh for a britpop album.

A little Pink Floyd, a little Green Day, a little Oasis

A little shocked to see Supergrass in the list but it's a solid album.

Like this, fun album to have on in the background

I read the reviews so I was excited to listen and nothing stood out. I'll listen another time and see if I feel different, it could have been the day.

This feels more consistent overall than I Should Coco, but not the same highs either. Solid 3.5 I think.

Not as good as I Should Coco but 5 or so great songs.

I liked it but wouldn't necessarily relisten 3.3

It’s the first artist that I hadn’t heard before on this list that I would actually listen to again. The music was good.

Richard III Sun Hits The Sky

I’d say this one has some potential. I’d give it a 3.5

Nice enough. Not majorly anything.

Good rock

No songs downloaded.

Interesting and fun album.

Not too keen on this album but I know I need to try some other albums by supergrass

Creative songwriting and good performances Not likely to repeat listen

3/5. The album started off strong, but lost me near the middle. By themselves, the songs are pretty fun and would work well in a playlist but back to back feels too overpowering with the fuzz and hazy atmosphere. There are some great ones on here like Sun Hits The Sky and Hollow Little Reign but didn't vibe with this one as much as other britpop albums.

5/10. Clown-core tripe

this seems like something I would have at least listened to once back in the day, but this is the first time hearing them. Maybe I got my fill of this sub-genre from "Hot Hot Heat" instead? Either way, 3 stars.

I always forget supergrass exists. Now I remember why. It's never really landed with me. I don't dislike it by any means, and I wouldnt skip a good bit of their stuff if it came on, but I'm also not really going to seek most of it out

Inoffensive and forgettable.

This wasn't doing it for me until I got to the horn section on Tonight, which got me in a better frame of mind for the rest of it. Still weird to think of this kind of pop as a must-listen in any way, unless you experienced it at the time and are nostalgic for it. I can imagine driving around with my friends as a teenager with this burned on a CD. It didn't actually happen for me with this album, but it's a solid vibe.

So much energy, so inventive and engaging, and so much WORK! It strikes me as a Not Lazy Album. They really went 110%. Despite this… I didn’t really love it! I was kind of annoyed most of the album. Maybe it’s too much caffeine, too early in the morning. I’m pretty impressed overall, but it feels a little fatiguing after listening for the full 43 minutes. A blast of energy that’s a little too much or too sustained. I LOVED “it’s not me.” Those America chords that melt into some psychedelic changes. That’s a highlight— that and the first track. Not gonna lie, I thought this would be a 5 star album when I started! But it started to kind of wear on me after a few listens, however. Too peppy for too long? Well hey, this is my subjective list. It’s not Billboard or NME over here. So I get to give this phenomenal album a 3 because it’s my reviews my rules. 3/5

I had never listened to them before. I like the album. Would listen again.

First Part: Some of these songs are alright ("Sometimes I Make You Sad", "Sitting Up Straight.") Unfortunately, most are forgettable Mid-to-Late-Nineties-Beatles-Loving-Brit-Pop/Rock. They are probably a very good live band, though (just guessing.) Not sure it needs to be on this list and it certainly didn't need to be a double album. Second Part: Hey! This is pretty good! Just throw the first disc away and listen to the second one.

Everything about this album screams Doug and that’s not a bad thing

Moments on the verge of being very good, but ultimately just OK

Solid album. Great rock band. Excellent vocals, and musicality. I didn’t know about this band, I am now a fan. Would probably give a 3.5 if that was available.

So many styles and influences, no three songs sounded like the same genre. Liked enough more than I disliked to get the nudge over the 2/3 line.

Sometimes I think that the editors of this book/list had genre and decade quotas to fill and just put some albums on it due to popularity. This isnt a bad album, but only an algorithm or AI would have chosen it as an album that anyone should hear before they die. 3/5

In It For The Money // Late In The Day //

This reminded me of Oasis, which I guess makes sense given the time, location, and genre. It was fine.

I really liked the riffs in Sun Hits The Sky (both guitar and synth). I don't like the grunts in the last song Sometimes I Make You Sad. The rest of the album is pretty good. It has some nice riffs.

Está bien

No real comments, it was pleasant enough to listen to, but for some reason I thought they were an American band.

Well, that's another band that appears to have used What Three Words to get their track names. That said it's not bad, not bad at all. Several tracks that made me stop and go "ooh what's this?" Sun hits sky and Hollow little rein (WTW) for two and the last track too. Some tracks seemed to be spoilt by the vocals, some wouldn't have worked without. On the whole yeah I liked it. Not quite enough for a 4, but a very high 3.

Not bad, but not as good as the first album.

My head bobbed a couple of times during this listen but, in general, nothing grabbed me from this album. Not good. Not bad. Not memorable.

British classic rock. Some of it is pretty fast paced, and some of it is pretty slow. Not especially interesting, but some cool riffs from time to time.

Bloated. Felt like a lot of the songs could've been B-Sides.

Not bad, better than most of the britpop from the same time period.

was diffferent but liked it.

It’s like fine to listen to but super forgettable. It’s a rock album that I was constantly forgetting I was supposed to be listening to. It was just there in the background.

Interesting album. Feels like a mixture of Muse, Smashing Pumpkins, and jam band. Musically intriguing, but nothing that overly grabs your attention.

(Only listened to original album, not bonus tracks) Interesting to go back to this - saw them play a lot in the 90s, and they're great live. But haven't relistened to this as much as their debut. This is less poppy, a heavier, maybe more interesting sound. Some good songs too, but I miss the fun of Caught By The Fuzz etc. 3.5, brought back some good memories of the 90s Oxford indie scene...

Classic hard rock sound

tooo much for a gloomy day LOLLL. I like the instrumental parts

Another long album - decent sounding. Didn't give it a super thorough listen though

Yh good album some great hits

When I read that this was supposed to be "more fun than watching a wombat in a washing machine" (according to NME, which should have been my first warning), my expectations were perhaps set unreasonably high. It's some decent '90s Britpop. I liked it enough. It was not especially memorable for me, though.

This album still had the fun energy brings but I felt myself not being too into this album compared to, I Should Coco. No real standout songs for me but I’m glad I listened to it nonetheless.

Supergrass is completely new to me, but at first glance, I love the cover. This album is so. very. 90's. My favorite track is "Going Out." Probably the most highly produced song on the album, with horns as a bonus feature, it also contains a refreshing key change in the middle.

Classic 90s rock

This is fine, add it to the listen to again someday pile

Remember Britpop? Remember when that was a thing? At least, unlike Oasis, these guys are really bouncy and energetic. It sounds like they were really happy to record this album. But I don't see what's particularly notable about this one.

For fans of: Beatles, Oasis, Kaiser Chiefs etc. Where are the female artists on this list?

I feel like I should like this much more than I do...

Sex! Is such a wonderfully weird and graphic song

Interesting rock. Nothing stood out as amazing but nothing bad either.

Have I heard of this band before? None of these songs sounded familiar. It was pretty average to me on first listen. Best track: Probably Sun Hits the Sky.

уфф много вопросов зачем и почему. В целом приятно,но сильно хзз

The album starts out a little flat/monotone. However, it picks up on the song Tonight where the band starts to mix in some jazz elements and more engaging guitar riffs. The album picks up in pace in the middle. I thoroughly enjoyed the solo on Sun Hits the Sky. There were moments that really bored me and moments that brought me back in to being interested. None of the album was truly outstanding or unique to me but it wasn't a complete slog either.

Het album begon wel lekker maar daarna verloor ik de interesse een beetje. Ik heb geen leuke anekdotes, scheve vergelijkingen of gemene sneren hier bij.

kinda annoying lol but some cool bits

Un gran álbum de rock noventero. El talento de los miembros de Supergrass es innegable, ya que a pesar de su corta edad realizan interpretaciones sumamente complejas y llamativas. De todas formas, no creo que sea un indispensable del catálogo musical de esta lista.

Even album with an overall good sound.

This album starts out really strong, but I think there are a couple of lackluster songs towards the end that harm this album’s rating. Overall, though, these guys have a slightly glammy, irreverent sensibility that sets them apart and they have great hooks for sure. This is a really enjoyable album.

- Heard a few Supergrass songs before but never a full album - Thought I would enjoy it and did - Nothing groundbreaking but still worthy of being on the list - Fav songs: Richard III, Late in the Day, Sun Hits the Sky

it was okay

70/100

liked this more than the debut, didn't feel particularly essential or anything though

Maybe three good songs? Not terrible

Not bad, but not great. There are some interesting moments here and there, but they never quite coalesce.

Eh fine but feels run of the mill brit-pub-rock sound.

Fan of Supergrass but this album was never a good one for me, the only song I liked was 'Sun Hits The Sky'

It was alright, listenable. An unremarkable 3*

It wasalright

Not their best but a solid addition.

I really enjoyed listening to this record. I only knew a couple of songs from Supergrass, but none from this record. There are a few really good songs and a slew of really decent ones. Not enough 4-star songs to give the record 4 stars, but it's very good.

I thought this record opened strong, and I didn't hate it... but I was pretty bored of the sound by the end. It kinda felt like the same thing over and over again. There were enough twists and turns to make it worthwhile but it wasn't fantastic. I think my review is also coloured by prior knowledge of the work that came right after this, (Supergrass, Road To Rouen, Diamond Hoo Ha) which I actually know and like quite a bit, esp Road To Rouen.

I really dug this. Cool vibe. I vaguely remember this band being talked about when I was in high school, but I never bothered to check them out. Now I wish I would have. I'll come back to this one. G-Song was the stand out track for me.

In the middle for me, good rock

Supergrass is certainly more enjoyable than a lot of Britpop. Although that's not saying a huge amount

Good, energetic, but nothing more

Enjoyable brit-/ alt-rock that’s a bit more adventurous than contemporaries such as, say, Oasis. Also what the hell was the last track?? I want more of that

I'm a big fan of Supergrass' Life on Other Planets. Haven't listened to them much outside of that. Also, weird that this is the second album in the last few days with 'In it for the money' in the title. Coincidence? Yes. But still. So anyway - this is fine. Good energy, nice production. But nothing that grabbed me. Why is it I put everything into those terms? Why do I want everything to grab me?

Be warned! The Spotify version is the sprawling double CD release, which perhaps has the effect of diluting the album's experience. Yet when I listened to the original 43min version, I'm still left a little underwhelmed. Is producing decent indie rock passporting criteria enough to appear on this list? There are a few signs of stylistic invention here and there, and the songwriting is solid. 'Hollow Little Reign' is legitimately great. One of the tracks features a nice brass arrangement, kinda aiming for what the Stones were doing on Sticky Fingers. Sticky Fingers this ain't, though. Average.

Pretty good stuff. Nothing earth shattering but was a good feeling album.

I wonder if in the future people will listen to Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift and think; wow this is so good, it's so indicative of the genre as it was at the time and you simply can't go wrong! That's kinda how I feel about Supergrass' music. It's not exactly overtly special - although they have some interesting instruments in places - it's just very rock rock music and that's why I like it! *spins and bops head to the tunes* Actually their bass player also fucking slays on every single track, I kinda forgot about that, I'm starting to feel that my feelings on this album can be in many ways applied to a lot of rock music... Also this album is a lot more interesting than the other supergrass albums I've heard that are a lot more simple/cut back.

Good british pop/rock. Have a nice variation to the sound which was a little Blur at times and a little Arctic Monkeys on other tracks.

Some solid writing will listen again

Solid writing, needs a relisten

As Suede but less dramatic

late in the day 3.5/5

Could have been a 5 if the mixing was done right, this was a frustrating album to listen to

It’s a polished strong album and I have a liking for Supergrass - but this record although sounding gorgeous kind of is a bit flat and unexciting - I tried multiple times listening to it in different moods but it didn’t stick.

This album was a trip. Def some points I wasn't sure about, but also plenty of highs. I wish they used some more of their weird sounds in more of their songs. Not bad. Not great. This is a legit 3 for me.

I liked the overall sound here, but the album got repetitive by the end.

It was alright, I think it gets lost in the mix of late 90s alternative, nothing really stood out to me

Enjoyed

Not really my thing. The beatles already did it.

nice songs, but sometimes not in my taste( added to playlist: 4 songs 6.5/10

Es un buen rock and roll. Arranco feíto pero después saqué temazos, Me gustaron varios temas.

The second best Supergrass album - anyone who tries to argue against the beautiful immediacy of I Should Coco is wrong! It's a good album with some fun songs, but Late in the Day aside, nothing heart stopping.

не, не поняла

Not bad, had some good beat to it but generally not that inspiring.

Anyone who saw the sideburns I was rocking in the late 90’s will attest how much I loved Supergrass so I was delighted when this came up. And this is a brilliant album - probably the best “Brit pop” album - up to a point And that point is Going Out The first half of the album is so great. Brilliant songs the lot of them, but especially Richard III and Sun Hits The Sky Then post Going Out it disappears off a cliff. The songs become workmanlike at best, outright annoying at worst So frustrating

It was alright, I guess. Got kind of bored.

Pretty good album, I really liked Late in the Day and of course Caught By the Fuzz is a classic. I would Listen to some songs again, cheers.

Ok, this was pretty alright. Not fully my cup of tea but good and not annoying.

This album is a bit aimless stylistically, sort of a throw everything at the wall approach. That said, there are some really delightful, rough-edged pop gems on here. Some of that gets lost in the mix, but there's a lot to enjoy here. Fave Songs: You Can See Me, Hollow Little Reign, It's Not Me, Cheapskate, Going Out, Late in the Day

Another Supergrass album?? I mean it was alright, but if I had died before hearing this I would have had no regrets.

Flying in Piero’s plane.

Not bad but a bit generic and a lot to sit through

Supergrass continues its run as also-rans in the battle for Britpop supremacy.

Highlights: "In It for the Money," "Richard III," "It's Not Me," "Caught by the Fuzz," "Wait for the Sun" For American listeners, this could be a good find, overshadowed by overrated contemporaries. This album is pretty late to retro British pop, and it might lean on The Beatles more heavily than any other of the scene, but what makes it notable is its varied and surprising harmony, confusing and catchy at the same time. Their vocals and guitar tend to be harder than their peers, similar to Smashing Pumpkins but more melodic, which makes them a better fit among the emo and blues retro of the next decade's pop rock. It is overlong, and it doesn't cohere as an album. The hodgepodge tone of the sequence does help break up the excessive runtime, but not all 21 songs are worthwhile. It's not as though Oasis or Blur were serious or mature lyricists, and all Britpop acts can be grating, but Supergrass gives in to some exceptionally tedious lowbrow moments that hold them back from the gravitas that people attribute to their contemporary Radiohead, despite having equally interesting highlights.

Damn, koffor e Sun Hits The Sky så nostalgisk? Ser ut som at den va med i Rock Band 2 som DLC, men tvile på at eg har spilt den der??? Ellers overraskande ok album

Hidden gem I never knew about. Although I do know they’re one popular song Alright. Album is good. Found some songs I like.

- Great intro for the album - In the end it feels like too long :(

Wow 2 volumes, 21 tracks. Must be good. Good start. Influences I can imagine they have: Pink Floyd, The Beach Boys, The Smashing Pumpkins -Based on track 1, it sounds like they're a mixture of The Beach Boys and Pink Floyd. Plenty of fuzz and character. -Tonight: i love how tight and fuzzy the guitars are without sounding "lo-fi". they feel well recorded and high quality, created to sound this specific way. It feels both big like a band on a stage - including horns - and also a bit garage-y. Smashing Pumpkins seem like an influence too.

Good album that goes on way too long.

Not too bad. Wasn’t familiar with Supergrass outside of their main song. Can’t say I’ll hunt any of their other music out but it’s was an easy listen.

Enjoyed discovering a bit more of Supergrass. Some of it was a bit middling, a 3.5 from me.

It was good. The hooks were catchy and the instrumentals dynamic enough to hold my attention mostly. Sometimes it got too similar and became repetitive though. There was nothing out right offensive, however there was nothing super phenomenal either.

Heavier than I was expecting (which was a pleasant surprise), but not really a style I enjoy

A funny album, very nineties britpop, but more uptempo than average

A good time in sound

It's alright!

I'm already a little daunted seeing it's 21 songs by a band I'm not Super familiar with. The use of the typeface Cooper Black on this cover where they're busking with acoustic instruments combined with a name that reminds me of Supertramp and weed is cause for concern. Maybe if I knew their music I'd find the humor or irony in this. At least while I've been typing the music has proven that there is some intended distance between what we see in the cover image before us and the sounds being made. I'm starting to get some Britpop vibes cut with more athletic guitars. If this record can keep the tempo and pace then I might be handing out stars like they're candy. We'll have to wait and see. As suspected when things slow down they feel a little more generic. Perhaps a slower tempo exposes more of their songwriting flaws? Or rather, and probably more accurate, if I hold the mirror up — the tempo shows me what my own preferences are. My edit for the record would've been to do 9 rippers and then run. Then they can put out a different album shortly after. I don't need the sprawling two disc treatment. But maybe a short album of bangers would've been received by the public as one dimensional. It's a hard balance to strike. In this particular case Supergrass didn't quite achieve it for me.

So I listened to the Supergrass album over the weekend and re-listened Monday morning, only to realize I listened to wrong album. So I listened to this album a couple times and think I've had enough Supergrass for awhile..... I'm not a fan of Oasis, but I thought these guys sounded a lot like them. I thought the album was OK, with some good changes of pace. I thought I heard Billy Corgan's voice in Caught by the Fuzz and a little Steve Earle in Sex. Can't say I would download anything, but overall sound was good and not bad to listen to at work. Liked In it for the Money and Tonight too. Again, decent. I am guessing Luke liked this album? I didn't mind but nothing great. 2.5 but will score a 3

3 I think Supergrass is technically the second band I’ve ever seen live, being that they opened for Foo Fighters just after another group called Year Long Disaster… or maybe the third if you want to count a Cheap Trick show that happened at a bandshell in my hometown when I was 1 (true story). Either way, I know very little about this group despite having been at one of their shows. I enjoyed the first handful of tracks (aside from the jarring end to the title track), but it also didn’t feel like anything I hadn’t heard before. To me, this is Britpop at its most whelming, and I can see why these guys aren’t held quite in the same regard as Oasis or Blur. The back half especially is an assortment of unremarkable alternative rock, and the vocals across the board seemed to blend in for me with other artists of the era - depending on the song I feel like I could hear Thom Yorke or Billy Corgan. Wouldn’t mind having on again, but probably wouldn’t seek out.

I had doubts about this band but over all, really solid music.

Decent

Demasiado largo, pero es bastante escuchable

Unless you did more than catch radio hits from the 90s Brit rock acts (Blur, Oasis, etc), you may have missed Supergrass. Even this being right in my wheelhouse, I don't know this band very well and haven't listened to them in ages. Looking forward to a focused, first-time-in-twenty-five-years play through of this album.... And there ya go. Pretty good record, can see why it didn't cross the ocean, though.

Better than I expected. At times reminded me of Smashing Pumpkins, other times I heard some distinct Black Sabbath influences....

Brit-rock-ey, with some more experimental/prog stuff

Much better than their debut album but without the hit

This is the second time they’ve tried to make Supergrass happen. It’s not working. This is once again fine. Not a record I’ll spin again anytime soon.

New to me. Enjoyed it.

Nice enough, but nothing special. So ... OKish. 3/5

Reminded me of ok computer I love ok computer I love britpop no as much as Radiohead

C'est la DISETTE

💤💤💤💤

Accomplished second album from band that rode the Britpop wave. Overlong but with inventive use of guitars. Needs more than one listen i think. Solid.

I will salute Brit Pop if you run it up the flag pole

Perfectly acceptable

I like Brit pop and there were a couple songs on here I enjoyed, but there's also some weird ska-like instrumentation that I couldn't get down with.

I'd never heard this before. Didn't even know Supergrass had a double album. I liked it.

Pretty inoffensive indy Brit pop. A couple of middling hits but should it be in here?

It was a decent album to listen to but I will not likely listen to it again.

One of the only bands where every song is at least enjoyable. The tempo is a little high and gets a little stale on this album though. 4 3

Ihan hauska ja menevä levy! 3/5

Interesting. Album was all over the place in terms of sound

Richard III easily favourite track, also enjoyed the acoustic version of Caught By The Fuzz. Overall an enjoyable listen.

yeah it's ok, bit of a stretch to be an essential album by any measure. Late in the day is very good

Oasis automatically played after the album ended, and I was like “oh this song is pretty good!” I think that says enough about the rest of the album

This is fine and good. Nice production a couple of catchy hooks but do we really need a more developed and mature Supergrass?

Could have been a lot worse. Consistently fine but not a lot stood out.

Very good. Very enjoyable. Yet already forgotten.

In It for the Money is the second album by English alternative rock band Supergrass. It is a wonderful Britpop album from the late 90's. I liked listening to the album while getting some work done.

Patiko, buvo geras vaibas klausyt sio albumo, linksmu dainu netruko. Galeciau pamineti sex! daina, sauni puikus zodziai. Atradau cia ir girdetu dainu tokiu kaip 'tonight' 'G ong' I playlista neisidejau neivienos dainos , bet albumas susiklause tikrai neblogai :)

Better than the previous album. Some nice tunes

It's Alright.

i'll give you two bob

Quite enjoyable record, and it seems like the band had a blast in the studio. Nothing remarkable either, and the closer 'Sometimes I Make You Sad' felt a bit out of place.

I found myself thoroughly enjoying the album from start to finish. Unfortunately I couldn’t recall a single track half an hour later. And a full day later I barely remember listening to it. Not half bad but not memorable either.

Singles: --------------------------------------- Going Out (#5 UK) Richard III (#2 UK) Sun Hits the Sky (#10 UK) Cheapskate (#35 US Alt) Late in the Day (#18 UK) Standouts: Going Out Others: In It For The Money, Richard III, Tonight, Late in the Day, Sun Hits the Sky, Cheapskate Rating: 3/5

Stellar 90s indie which never strikes me as particularly special. Some great chord structures and the tunes themselves are catchy enough but it all sounds a bit too straightforward after a while. Favourite track: Sun Hits the Sky

Pretty good album. 3,5/5

A fun album with catchy songs. Though, the songs don't really stand out from each other.

This didn't have quite the charm of the Supergrass songs I've heard and liked, but it was still pretty decent

Some fun songs

Sounded like the precursor to the Strokes and all the other bands in that genre. Not too shabby.

Very interesting album. It reminded me of Beatles in that britpop way, but it was way more listenable than, say, Oasis. There was a lot of neat ideas. Overall though, I just don't care much for britpop. 3.49/5

Tried a number of times. Just could not latch on to this guy.

standout: Cheapskate otherwise not super exciting?

Another supergrass this soon?

I've never been a big fan of the 90s British alt rock and I went into this album with low expectations. The first three songs were essentially what I expected but Late in the Day grabbed my attention. By the time Sun Hits the Sky ended I started to become a fan. I could imagine a live performance of Sun Hits the Sky being jammed out and I found myself wishing the end of the song continued on longer. For me that is when the album hit its stride.

Nice and chill but overall a little meh.

Not as good as the other Britpop albums I've received

3.4 - Another British guitar rock outfit that lived in Radiohead’s shadow, along with Suede, Super Furry Animals and others. The guitars are good and loud but mostly “refrigerator buzzing.” The only track worth mentioning is “Caught by the Fuzz”, which is a great punky, acoustic tune.

Very solid

Would’ve loved to listen to a 45-minute cut of this LP. It speaks to the strength of the songwriting and performance that I enjoyed the whole hour, but this album’s downfall is its extended runtime. The opening half of the album is so strong that it doesn’t need the extra back to water down the overall impact

It's quite fun and I like the mix of styles on here, with some '60s and '70s throwback stuff mixed in with a more contemporary '90s britpop sound, but the mix is incredibly muddy throughout and kind of ruins the listening experience

Not bad but I found it a bit repetitive

Supergrass is an OK band, at least from what I can say by listening to 'In it for the money'. I am happy I discovered them, but they didn't leave a huge impact on me. I liked the intros on most of the songs, though.

A very fun Britpop followup that tries a little too hard to be wacky and different. Lots of misses and good ideas that aren't carried out to completion. A bit all over the place, but there's some cool ideas I really like. I'll be overly critical with this song-by-song review. Of course, being a double album, it has high expectations which it does not meet. But they're very talented with great ideas I wish could be explored further. In It For Money: An Oasis song with better mixing. Catchy, triumphant, and energetic, and I love the jazz touch and abrupt end. Good start. Richard III: Fantastic dark noise rock / post-punk song. Fan of the synths, back vocals, and distortion, I can feel influence from both grunge and shoegaze. Awesome solo and coda. Tonight: My favorite song. A psychedelic pop song with instruments and vocals coming in and out in short lived bursts. Love the horns and yelps so much. Incredible trippy jazz section near the end. Late in the Day: A yearnful acoustic folk song, complex, and I appreciate what it does, but it misses the mark in what it tries to do. Found the different sections to be interesting yet incoherent. Lyrics and vocals could be worked on. G-Song: Decent unique song, with slightly hazy vocals and guitars and a trippy chorus with a cool noise rock bridge. Feels a bit incomplete. Sun Hits the Sky: Decent arena rock, triumphant, but moves around too much for its power and speed. Cheesy synth solo comes out of nowhere adds some spice. Going Out: One of the weaker songs, and I don't think the jazz section saves it very much. Too busy. The ending is cool though. It's Not Me: Sounds like they're trying to be mystic folk like a LZ song. What instrument is that? A miss for me. Cheapskate: Their most Britpop song on this album. I like the chorus but otherwise generic. You Can See Me: Pretty good punk song, but can't remember who they remind me. Holly Little Reign: A bit gimmicky but I like the idea. Sometimes I Make You Sad: A bit gimmicky and I don't like the idea much. Tried to be exotic near the middle. Huge miss. Caught by the Fuzz: I like this one. I like the passionate vocals, a bit Beatlesesque. Could be improved, especially the wacky middle part. Sitting Up Straight: Decently good noisy punk. Fast, fun, and hard. Melanie Davis: Psychedelic pop reminiscent of the Kinks. It's groovy and I like the harpsichord, but I don't like their overuse of chords, and the guitar solo is a bit lame. Odd?: Super spooky with an eery latter half. Super trippy. I quite fancy this one. Wait for the Sun: Really good. Melancholic and beautiful that works with their formula, even the solo. Nothing More: Pretty good, these slower groovier songs work better. A bit too repetitive for its length though. Sex: A very silly hodown song. I'm a bit too old to appreciate this one. 20 Foot Halo: Decent but forgettable. Melody is mellow and atmospheric, I think the vocals damper the song, since my favorite part is where there's no annoying voice. Je Suis: A nice jazzy atmospheric finish, but comes out of nowhere.

Better than expected! I think I had written it off as way too poppy at the time, but with a bit of distance it’s alright

I love these guys. They always sounded like a reasonable facsimile of stuff I loved to hear. More of that here, but in the absence of stuff I love, I'll take it.

This is a weird one...it feels so familiar, it almost feels like so many brit songs from the 90s, a little blur, a little oasis sounding, but just...not...but also sounds like a fun album that would make these guys a great band to have playing live in a small venue.

Fun listen

Not as catchy or joyful as the first LP, but a strong second outing. Good indie pop.

The album is entirely forgettable. It is a little over 40 minutes long. I had no idea that this group existed. I didn't hate it. I have no need to listen to it again. It is better than a 2, not really a 3, but I will round up.

Richard III and Sun Hits the Sky are standout tracks. Unfortunately there are some forgettable ones to which make it average on the whole.

I’m up and down with them.

I Should Coco was one of the first albums I got in this project and I loved it, so I was excited to hear this one. Unfortunately, it doesn't capture the same energy and felt kind of generic to me. 3/5 stars

Surprisingly decent.

Some great standouts. Don’t think I’ll listen through it again though

"Richard III", its punk impetus and its sly theremin; "Tonight" and its addictive chorus: "Sun Hits The Sky" and its relentless drive propelling you to rock heavens--those tracks are among the best Supergrass ever penned and played, which explains why some listeners might think *In It For The Money* should be on this list. I guess I'm happy to see it here, too, if only for its sardonic cover, which perfectly encapsulates what's fun about this band... That being said, I can still understand how sone other listeners less versed in britpop could question such inclusion. Most of the other tracks are not as striking as the ones we've quoted before, in spite of Supergrass's skills as composers and performers. Some songs even veer dangerously close to a sort of dad-rock that, even in the nineties, already sounded a little derivative compared to other stuff that was happening in the indie world at that time. Besides, well-versed craft does not always lead to memorable tunes. Those songs are alright of course... But they're not "Alright". Not by a long shot. What saves Supergrass is obviously their unpretentious posture, here combined with imaginative chords, obvious winks to the past, and sudden heartfelt intents. It's an alliance between left brain and right brain that is rarely witnessed in the rock world at large. The whole thing might be slightly ironic, or maybe it isn't ironic at all, who knows? Read the title of this record again, and you'll get the idea. Logically enough, the jury's still out that one. At least for now... Maybe a few more spins will help me decide if there's still room for Gaz Coombes and co. in my little pantheon of keepers, In the meantime, it was a fun record to revisit. That's gotta count for something, I guess... Number of albums left to review or just listen to: 865 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 74 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 34 (including this one) Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 28

Unlike their debut, this album takes itself way too seriously. I few tunes but they are outweighed by musical onanism

Pretty good album that ran way too long for its own good

Liked it - updated glam with heavy fuzz bass and straining vocals. Always liked the sound of Supergrass when I heard them on the radio, but never bought an album. It was an ok listen but don't think I learned anything beyond the singles I already knew. That last song is also a travesty. This album also loses a point for the bass player's technique on the cover, does he think he's playing a ukulele? Where are his elbows? What's that fingering? Is it even going to be audible with his right hand that far up the finger board?

I recall having a couple of Supergrass albums in the family, including this one, that got listened to quite a bit. Hearing it again after years it didn’t have a huge impact. Solid alternative rock and roll of the British flavor, nothing wrong with it, but nothing from it really stuck with me either.

kinda cool

MORE Britpop?!?!

jeg likte dette. kommer til å ta det med videre. God kjøremusikk. Cheapskate var min favoritt.

Great britpop album with a bit of a theatrical delivery. In that way they are closer to Blur than Oasis, which might explain why I enjoyed it.

I don't really know what to say about this album. Everything is good without being exceptional. It reminds me of Oasis, but without huge songs that lift us up.

While there were some enjoyable parts on this album, I got tired of it at some point in its 70 minute runtime. Not bad alternative Brit rock from the 90s but not entirely my thing

22nd April 2022 Listened on the drive back home from the airport. Back to earth with a britpop bump. Quite nice to be driving through London listening to this, more so than other britpop records had the whimsy and folk tilt of the Beatles. Very eclectic album which I wouldn’t have associated with supergrass previously.

It's Not Me est un peu ennuyante. Il semblerait que Richard III serait plus dans la veine du premier album donc je vais me diriger vers cet album pour une écoute. Mais tout de même intéressant comme groupe.

Surprisingly good at the start kinda "new radicals-esque" early indie rock vibes 3.5

Recognized their #1 Spotify song, Alright, and always thought they were a one-hit wonder. Maybe they were, but this album is pretty fun to listen to.

Album was quite enjoyable but I didn't remember much of it. 3-, not bad after all

This seemed fairly generic, and why are there multiple Supergrass albums on this list? I just got one last week.

Beginning of the album felt like some quintessential 90s rock, later felt like their own genre. Love the breakdown in Sun Hits The Sky. A ton of instruments (I even thought I heard a sitar in Sometimes I Make You Sad). Would've given it 4 stars but the mixing made it hard to hear the vocals. Favorite Songs - In It For The Money, Hollow Little Reign

Definitely very Britpop. Nice pulsating riffs on this album. Certainly an easy to listen to record. Biggest gripe is that a lot of songs sounded similar

Pop-rock un tanto soso. Ni fu ni fa.

It's alright. I missed out on the Britpop phase during grad school.

If there were half points id be going 3.5. I probably couldn't listen to it on repeat but enjoyed the album.

No-one disliked it. No strong feelings either way. One or two 90s memories for Conor. The slightly oddity of the music was appreciated. 3.2/5

3 Stars

Album was quite enjoyable but I didn't remember much of it. 3-, not bad after all

Always thought this was a solid album and that Supergrass is a typical singles band - still think the same although the non-single album track You Can See Me is one of the stronger songs.

90s Brit-Pop, with this, the second album I've gotten from Supergrass - a band I never heard of before starting this list. I wondered before what made them a 'must listen' and now that they have so far, two albums on this list, I wonder what is their catch? This is a good album, for what it represents. 3.5/5.

Some fine songs, but mostly forgettable. Meh. 2.5? I'll give it a 3, cause I'm sure it would grow on me if I put it in regular rotation, but after this listen? I'm just not motivated to do that.

This was good. Never really listened to Supergrass before, but new they hada couple of hit songs. Will listen to more.

Not terrible. Tired of it halfway thru.

totally fine background music. Not the most memorable, but a lot of range demonstrated here!

An entertaining slice of 90s indie.

A good indie/brit pop effort. Stand out tracks - Sun hits the sky - Going out

I have this album on CD, but have never given it much of a listen beyond Richard III and Sun Hits the Sky. It seems I've been missing out all these years as it's a rather good collection of varied songs and much more complex and mature than their debut. It may have benefited from the brass and other non-guitar instrumentation being brought out more in production. 3.5/5.

I liked the opening half of this album, but it didn't really sustain itself toward the end. Give it a try for some decent British rock (bordering on pop punk at times), but I think it falls short of "classic" territory.

I've never heard of this group. The album art looks like 60's trying to evoke 30's, but I see it is from 1997. The cover strikes me as a band that is very sure of itself. Not sure yet if they are goofy/fun or cocky. Seeing it is a double album I'm worried maybe the latter. The title track starts out sounding 90's British pop and fine but a tad boring. The next song, Richard III, has more energy and clear grunge vibes, with some interesting musical moments, which I'm liking. My hopes are dashed by the next couple of meh songs. As the album wears on I'm impressed by the variety, and the quirkiness is winning in places. All of the music is good (except maybe the ballad It's Not Me and Sometimes I Make You Sad which really don't work) and many the songs are very good, like Richard III. The band sounds great together and the production quality is faultless. But the album as a whole doesn't grab me. I expect if they had put half has many songs on this album I would have been blown away. Curious about the popularity of this band I checked out some other music. I like Alright tons and also St. Petersburg but HATE Moving. /Shrug

Surpised there was a second Supergrass album. I liked it, although I liked the first one better.

pretty good

I liked this one. Had low expectations for '90s rock music, but this was enjoyable. A somewhat retro sound, with a handful of tracks I dug. Nothing too special, but this is a good album. Favorite tracks: Late in the Day, G-Song, Sun Hits the Sky. Album art: Very deceptive, thought this was some missing Crosby, Stills, Nash album at first glance. I like this though, pretty funny to see a band of hobos and one is playing a pristine upright bass. 3.5/5

banale

Interesting, Some odd ball songs

60te su bile godine oh wait

Kind of strange, not the best. It sounds about average, and nothing really sticks out to me. It is a little different, but that doesn't make it great.

Pretty fun. Not the greatest songs but the energy is palpable. Probably wouldn't listen to this album again though.

Straight up Brit Rock from the late 90's but with a bit more pace and edge. Not punk edge, just energy edge.

Un peu long mais y'a des bons morceaux

Thanks for nothing, Supergrass.

Would've rate it at 5 back in 1997, but as of 2022 it doesn't amaze

Supergrass are a band where I get a lot more enjoyment from the albums than their big 'hits'. Alright et al have been overplayed to the point of annoyance. Which is why it is doubly refreshing to listen to an album without arguably their top 3 biggest songs on. Sun hits the sky hasn't quite reached that point yet

not quite sure what I expected here and don't think i've ever listened to them. Solid songs - really liked Melanie Davis

I wanted to like this 90s album. I will give it one more chance.

Some of these were groovy, but others were a little weird. But not in a like a cool interesting way...

The 90’s ahhhhh. Music like this always inspires me to cry wank. Can’t beat a good cry wank. Wanking with “a beadle hand” is no laughing matter either!

Some killer, some filler.

Pretty nice brit-pop!

C'est bon, mais je ne suis pas certain d'aimer ça. De la brit pop avec une touche de rock. Comme beaucoup d'album dans cette liste. 3.25 je n'était pas dans le mood peut être. Un réécoute bientôt probablement .

Couldn't get into this even though it's right up my alley. Kinda boring and same-y.

couple ok songs, wouldn't bother with again

empieza aburrido, mejora, buenos riffs, el directo arrasaria, sonido meh

I remember how influential this was when it was released. Still is very listenable.

I like the music and voicework, and In It For the Money is a strong start, though i would say G-Song is probably my favorite. The album is fine though not too many standouts to lift it higher.

I can't remember much about these guys but they used to get a bit of late night rage play. Was that 90s alternative stuff with the quaint English look but sounded like Nirvana. Ok it's a bit more britpop than Nirvana but yeah. Not too bad, not too good, just kinda there. 3/5.

3/5 niceish album but didnt make it

Some of the songs were quite good like In it for the Money and Richard III. This band just doesn't seem to be made for ballads. It's Not Me is hard for me to enjoy. There are some songs such as Late in the Day that are in between and likeable.

I've been listening to Gaz Coombes over the last couple of years, at the suggestion of Spotify. He was a lot more floor-on-the-floor back in this Supergrass days, but he was still a good songwriter and a good singer. The LP get's off to a kickin' start, especially with Richard III. A handful of catchy songs.

yeah, that was alright. missed them at the time, and like with I Should Coco, i don't think i would've given this one much of a shot - but i enjoyed it overall, for sure.

Pop-rock un tanto soso.

Gives me Beatles vibes

1st listen. Good. Really can't wait to hear it again.

Fun, if a bit forgettable. Best track: Sun Hits the Sky

Nothing much.. 90s britpop, couple of cool songs some boring stuff. etc.

Decently chill. Forgettable.

Pretty decent 90s rock album. I do like the variety of instrumentation here and the singles are pretty good. Solid album.

Super catchy and melodic guitar rock with with touches of psychedelia.

Nice riffs and melodies. Kinda boring

Tatsächlich ganz cool!

Eigentlich genau mein Ding. Altbekannt aber richtig zünden tut es nicht

Kinda cool rock. Not sure why I haven’t heard of them before.

I expected to hate it, but I found it not bad. They sound like a mixture of a bunch of 90's bands

I guess it's not bad, but also not life changing. -S Some fun stuff on here! But it didn’t melt my face off.

3 tracks in; it's not terrible but it's bog standard pop/rock. nearing the end; it's okay for what it is. not original or special in any way, but not completely unenjoyable. 3/5

Haven't listened to this in years! Not a go to artist or album for me, but that was a good wee jaunt down memory lane :)
