Reviews (page 7 of 8)

Another weird one. There are parts that I quite dislike, but other parts are made interesting through the use of different kinds of instruments and fusions with various other styles of music.

Their follow up album is way better

Not bad, not great either. Wouldn't mind listening to it again, but would never start to play this myself

Pretty chill rock for in the background. Some weird tracks.

Solid all around, but no real stand outs

Thought is wac ok, but didn’t really jump out as special. A mix of 70s rock and 90s grunginess. I was surprised by Wikipedia reporting that this album was rated so highly when released.

Really good! They’re like a less pretentious version of Oasis.

Really enjoyed this and had never heard of them.

Started strong and fade a little. Some really good tracks that will make my playlist.

Enjoyed it

A decent rock album.

Inoffensive and exceedingly average Britpop.

Some interesting songs. Some.

Psychedelic Brit-pop/rock is a thing and this album is pretty enjoyable. I was reluctant at first, but it soon caught up. Three stars!

Not bad

It was nice enough

Was okay standard 90s rock

I didn't make it through the full double album, but it was pretty good. I really liked "G-song"

Very okay, I enjoyed some of the sounds and the feel of the album. Felt a little long but worth the listen

Wasn't in the mood for punk.

I've given this a strangely low rating, although even a 3 is surprisingly good for me. I've never loved Supergrass however, individually every song on this album kicks ass. A whole album of them isn't that pleasing though. I'd be happy if any of these tracks appeared on the radio, but not all of them at once.

Never heard of them but really liked it. Good solid modern rock

As always, the singles are terrific.

Bem legalzinho

Ihan hauska levy ja jaksoi muutaman kerran kuunnella läpi

Drags in the middle, some great standout tracks though.

Its an ok album. Enjoyed more the other one from them.

Way too long, way too samey. I was thoroughly bored

A fun, hooky Britpop ride with enough warm groove to keep me in it, and just enough frantic clutter to remind me it’s not exactly my lane.

Boring and bland

It felt like a combination of Oasis and Smashing Pumpkins. Fine

Not for me

I honestly thought this was going to be a lot better than it was. First song was a bit of a misdirection.

Two stars: one for each Supergrass album that somehow made it on this list

meh. replacement level British rock. Just let Oasis cook.

TWO Supergrass albums?! What are we doing? ******************************************************************************* --In It for the Money...aren't we all? --Richard III...sure --Tonight...it's fine --Late in the Day...this feels like a joke about pop music? I just don't know anymore --G-Song...if I didn't know better I'd call this AI generated "90s music" --Sun Hits the Sky...it's a toe tapper --Going Out...more like Super-ass, amirite? --It's Not Me...no thanks --Cheapskate...fun bassline --You Can See Me...the second half is fun --Hollow Little Reign...there's nothing wrong with this album, there's also nothing on here that justifies it as an album I need to hear --Sometimes I Make You Sad...what the fuck is this?

Day870 - before i even listen im gonna complain about supergrass having more than one album on the list. now after listening… its fine, but one was enough

this album left me feeling unfulfilled in my listening experience. it was alright

Not my thing

Bit boring, feels more of the same

Not for me

I never really liked Supergrass. Not sure what it was but something about them never connected with me. I gave I should Coco a 2 - and I much prefer the energy/ singles of that album over this. 1 would be too harsh so low 2.

More hazy Brit rock…there’s a lot of this in this compilation! I’m not wowed

Not bad, but this is another album where nothing jumped out at me

More Brit Pop…nope impressed with this one

Lackluster mid-90s Britpop that really does not pop.

Further Brit pop mediocrity. A few tracks elevated this to a 2, but I was pretty disengaged throughout.

Raw, heavy, young, instrument choosing really interesting how it fits,

Hmmmmmmmmm thought this would be more fun (based on the Alright song you know the one). Far more bland and Britpop than I was hoping for, but did have interesting parts. Hmmmmmmmmm. Yeah 2 seems right.

Somehow I missed this one when it first came out. I listened to it several times to rate it, but none of it stuck with me. It's fine, just nothing special.

This band doesn’t need two albums. Average BritPop sound.

Richard III Late in the Day Sun Hits the Sky Going Out

Saw the album cover thinking this was going to be some strange bluegrass revival album, pleasantly surprised but it starts strong, falls off, then comes back with a final terrific track

Seriously? Unremarkable. What is remarkable is that someone deemed this group needed 2 albums in this list of things you need to hear before you die. WOW

Sounds like the musical love child of Oasis and Radiohead. I imagine people who studied abroad in the UK in late 90s came back to the states and treated their new found “love” of Supergrass with superiority because they weren’t “sell outs”.

OK, another random Britpop album. As expected, it's just OK. The songs are decent, but nothing special. Lyrics are generic and uninteresting. The guitar sound is nice, but it's still nothing too distinct or interesting. The singer has a mildly annoying voice, but again it's nothing too notable. Why are these kinds of albums even on the list in the first place? I know that this isn't the first time I've complained about this, and that I'm beating a dead horse here, but goddamn if it isn't annoying. There are some great albums on this list, but there's so much cookie-cutter slop like this on here as well. For that reason, I hate this despite- or maybe because of- its mediocrity.

I‘m in.

Became a bit more interesting as it went on, just about...

I hear the transition from 90s Britpop to 2000s indie rock here. A bit noisy and slightly punk, it's fine. But a second Supergrass album on the list? Not deserved. Make some room.

this was kind of unimpressive but it was still alright to listen to

Not my jam.

Decent

Another day, another disappointment. I've seen the cover, and I think that it's neat, but that's it.

Yeah man idk I just couldn't really get into this one.

They had a couple good songs on here. Nice sounds.

This was disappointing. I liked 2 songs: Richard III & It's Not Me. I totally disliked Sometimes I Make You Sad (yes they did). The other songs were mostly just meh to near disastrous. Very bland and not worthy. 2 disappointed stars.

This is alright. It's an enjoyable album, if a bit inconsistent. Unfortunately it is not very memorable, though. It just doesn't set itself apart from the other Britpop on this list enough. I think I could be easily convinced to move this album up a rating, but for now it's going to be a 2. Favorite track: "Sun Hits the Sky"

Album 113. In It For The Money — Supergrass (1997) Dull shit. This album is about quantity, not quality. It was super boring, but I tried to find something good 2/5 Liked songs: — Sitting Up Straight — Odd? — Wait For The Sun

It's fine, and has its moments, but it's not doing enough for me to want to listen any more.

2/5 O lado A é até bom, com algumas músicas e melodias interessantes (In It for the Money, Richard III).

This record is highly acclaimed and I can't for the life of me figure out why. I don't really like it at all, despite having given it several chances and having seen it on a lot of top lists and such. It's just not my wheelhouse, I guess.

forgettable unfortunately

I recognized one song from an episode of Degrassi and what does that say about me but this was not notable

Mid britpop. Par for the course

Everage Britrock - band in sleight transition to punk

2 out of 5 Not great. More of the same generic whiny boy-band sounds coming out of the 90s. Blah

Going out, cheapskate, tonight

#840. The song Odd? was the only one I really found interesting, the rest was mostly boring to me. Oh, and add another one to "one hit wonder's other album in this book for some reason" list. 2/5: meh

I did NOT need to hear another Supergrass album before I depart this mortal coil. Goddamn the Eurocentricity of this list. I'm gonna start my own 1001 album list with Wilco's discography, and The National's discography, and hookers and blackjack....

nothing

There is no way I am seeing a fuckin supergrass album on this list

Bland bland bland …..don’t mind supergrass but this album was like plain mash potato

Supergrass answers the question of what would the Rolling Stones sound like if Billy Corgan did a Mick Jagger impression. I've never listened to Supergrass before, and I'm not impressed. Very standard stuff for being 'alt-rock'.

Maybe I would like it better if I hadn’t just listened to The Wall. It’s long and I just wasn’t super impressed.

Knock-off Oasis. Every song sounded the same. Did not finish.

I've always just associated Supergrass with their one big single 'Alright'. Whilst never one of my favourite britpop tracks it certainly had a distinct sound, which can't really be said for this album. In It For The Money might be an accurate description for an album that feels so middle of the road and safe as to ensure airplay alongside the likes of Oasis and other identical britpop acts.

Not my favorite genre

First song or two were ok, nothing spectacular, but then the late nineties Brit pop vibe hit. I really don’t like Brit pop. At least this wasn’t the worst example of it that I’ve heard. Also, I’ve found very few double albums on this list that are worth the vinyl. This one isn’t an exception.

FAVO: Sometimes I make you sad

Mediocre brit pop.

This was fine. I didn’t have any strong feelings about it either way and didn’t feel engaged with it at all (maybe bc It’s been a long work week?). It wasn’t bad and I was surprised i didn’t like any of the ones I hadn’t heard as much as Feel Alright. I wouldn’t turn it off if it came on but I probably wouldn’t choose to listen to it.

I had not heard this before. I bought I Should Coco when it came out and loved it and continue to enjoy it. This album seems like the big record executives said something like: now we need to break the north american market, make something that will appeal to more people and make it sound like the other stuff that's coming out. And to me, that's what it sounds like - disappointing

A very good two-star record! If that makes any sense… It's hard to believe that this list wasn't just compiled a few weeks ago. Given the selections that I have had so far (about one fifth in), you could come to the conclusion that Britpop must be the greatest and most influential genre of all. I've had so many Britpop records over the previous month (and the “obvious” genre highlights were not even among them) that you could be forgiven for assuming that the editors were riding high on the ongoing (and mainly nostalgic) Britpop revival wave. A whole bunch of the 1001 list was apparently assembled in the early 2000s - a fact which itself only partly helps to explain the number of Britpop artists included here. At that time, British music on continental Europe was a massive phenomenon (Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, …). But then again, these bands were primarily drawing from post-punk and less so from Britpop. Britpop was, if my memory serves me well, as dead as a doornail at the time. I saw Oasis touring Europe around 2008/2009 in a medium-sized concert venue (give or take 4,000 people), and the only thing that I can recall is that Liam left the stage after a handful of songs. So there must be another reason for the disproportionate amount of Britpop records in this 1001 pile. And the more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that the love for Britpop depends on your understanding of - and listening habits towards - music. To me, Britpop is not so much a clearly defined genre category, but rather a kaleidoscopic excursion into music history. Britpop has always been about nostalgia, and if that is your thing, you probably enjoy a good Britpop record too. For one, every Britpop band unabashedly and unashamedly borrowed from their predecessors (certainly, most - if not all - artists do that, but not as openly as, say, Oasis). Second, they did not take one influence, but a whole bunch of artists and, like a prism, channeled their sound. Oftentimes it was ’60s psychedelic pop mixed with the recent resurgence of heavy guitar-based music (grunge, shoegaze). Combined with charismatic (and occasionally obnoxious) frontmen and the ability to write irresistible pop hooks, Britpop managed to serve as a bridge between generations and music genres that, before Britpop, existed more in (separate) niches. And by combining them into an arena-suited sound, they blew everything up. Not a small feat by itself, especially considering how cohesive the results tended to sound. Now that’s my understanding of the enduring success of Britpop - and, to be honest, the reason why I enjoy a lot of Britpop records myself. But… influential and groundbreaking? I don’t know. I have difficulty pinning Britpop albums down as such. Because as much as I love Britpop, I have to say that it feels - and has always felt - like a dead end to me. As you can see when looking at the Oasis reunion, people needed their heroes to return because the well had run dry. No one is doing Britpop anymore (at least not successfully), because as it stands now, the story has been told. That is the fate of a genre that was always busy looking in the rear-view mirror. In the early ’90s, it must have been great to have one good-to-amazing album after another on the market. But is it justified to put more than, let’s say, five Britpop records on a list like this? Nah; don’t think so. And Supergrass are a great example for discussing this question. I think that with their first two records, they were the ones who managed to merge punk/mod energy with the psychedelic sound aesthetic of the ’60s most successfully. They were great songwriters with a real talent for writing choruses and hooks. Take In It for the Money, which is not only versatile; it also manages to even out the duds from their debut. Unfortunately, though, the highs are not as high anymore, lacking truly standout tracks that elevate the album to another level. I think you would be just fine if you had never listened to this record. But if you do, you will probably have a good 40-plus minutes of solid songwriting ahead of you. A word of warning, though: the initial excitement may slow down in parallel with the decreasing BPM of the tunes towards the end of the record - that is, unless you like your psychedelic pop smoldering rather than igniting. And then, unfortunately, comes the closer. Urgh. That one hurt.

Incredibly mid. Not bad, but not worth 70 minutes of my time

ts did NOT need to be on the list 🥀🥀

Middle of the road guitar rock.

2+ Stars (6/15)

Derivative, generic Britpop.

I might come back to this

The first half was great Brit-pop. The downfall happened around halfway through when they decided to switch genres.

Generic. Boring.

another questionable choice for this list..

I was surprised to see I already had a Supergrass song on my liked songs playlist; it's their one big hit Alright. This album, In It For The Money, was indeed alright. I mean, it's 90s British alt rock. In It For The Money is actually a great name for the album because it's a broad sound, lots of influences (Bowie, Kinks, Smashing Pumpkins) but nothing too original or unique. I can't distinguish one sound to the next and nothing really stands out to me. Solid 2.5 stars, rounded down.

honestly just found it a bit dull

I suspect that if I discovered them as a teenager, I’d love this band. This just isn’t the right time, and there isn’t anything exceptional here for me.

Haven't heard this album from them before. Dear god, I already thought that including Supergrass's most popular album on the list is a bit much (even though I do like it) but now turns out there's a second one? Somebody should've seriously looked at the author's britpop era picks and removed like 10 albums before publishing the book. This is not even a britpop must listen, let alone a must listen from the entire history of music 2/5

This Supergrass album has left me in a quandary. I previously listened to I Should Coco and loved it, rating it a 4. Thus, I was genuinely looking forward to the second offering by the band. I can’t say I liked this album very much. I found some of the rhythms and lyrics enjoyable and the musicianship is great. However, the heavy production and 60s psychedelic feel kept me from getting into the album. I also found the lead vocals quite whiny and annoying throughout, which I don’t recall from the prior album. Thus, my quandary: am I a Supergrass fan or not? I guess I’ll have to take it upon myself to listen to a third tie-breaker album to determine the answer.

Generic is the only word to describe it. Not bad or painfully boring like some other Britpop stuff, but I'm not rushing to put any of their songs on again.

Best Value Smashing Pumpkins

Ah, it’s been a hot minute since I reviewed I Should Coco, but I’m excited to finally see the second Supergrass album on this list. I was completely unfamiliar with Supergrass before starting this list, but it turned out that I knew “Alright” off of I Should Coco. I gave that first album four stars, and I have pretty similar hopes for In It For The Money as well. This second effort from was not really my jam. In It For The Money started off really strong, with a few really unique tracks, and a darker tone and sound than their first album, but I kept waiting for Supergrass to do more with that new direction, and they never really did. The guitars really drowned this album out, and despite some good horn arrangements and some well-placed theremin use, this album wound up feeling and sounding pretty bland to me. The guitars, effects, and lyrics on the first track made me feel like this album were really great, and I thought we were going to get a more pessimistic and jaded Supergrass (like Pulp), who were coming down off of the high of Britpop’s massive explosion in popularity. But the songs on this album wound up being pretty standard fair in my opinion, and while the melodies on the best songs on this album were fun and somewhat memorable, most of this album was forgettable to my ears. The last two tracks were pretty massive clunkers to me, with some of the most annoying and out of place musical arrangements on the album. “In It For The Money,” “Richard III,” and “Sun Hits the Sky,” were all pretty good, but as a whole, this album felt pretty unnecessary to me.

Pretty neat

Extremely unessential

Boring, generic Brit pop. Couldn’t tell one song from another and none good.

I thought this album lasted for like 7 hours. I struggled to listen to it all and not in the fun way. There were good moments but i think half the songs could be cut away.

Easy listening. Fades to the background on occasion. 2.4 outta 5

It’s supergrass..

I had previously heard another one of their albums as part of the 1001 albums but was not previously familiar with this album. This is Britpop and seemed fine but unremarkable. I would not seek out this album to listen again.

Ganska basic britrock, men bättre än "i should Coco"

Mid unexciting

Ok. Better than expected

Nothing is really sticking to me but I don't exactly hate it. Just sort of washed off of me. 2.5/5

Big dislike here

For 90s Britpop I didn’t hate it. Also didn’t love it.

This group was under my radar until last decade or so. Never heard this album, but really like Going Out.

This is nothing special. I wouldn't have put this on the list at all.

Not bad

Fine, forgettable Britpop...par for the course on this list. Man, I must not understand how important a mid-tier music genre from the 90s was to all of us. I hate throwing shade at all these Britpop records because I know every genre from every generation was saturated with less-than-stellar material, but this list is just so biased in favor of it. It's like saying The Byrds have 4 albums you MUST hear before you die... wait...

I hope they cashed in while the gettin' was good.

Nope, still not my kinda grass.

Liked it at first, but then it got pretty annoying

More 90s Britpop, not for me.

If they were in it for the money, they'd have learned to incorporate melody in their visions of Britpop. Instead, they merely slam, but are about as soft as Mumford & Sons, the outfit they resemble on their streetwise cover art. No song hits here b/c, tho you'd think w/o melody they'd learn the trade of the riff, they don't possess those either. What's left are Gaz Coombes's prosaic vocals and unremarkable lyrics: 'I am a doctor, I'll be your doctor / I'm on my way, and you won't come down today'; 'I try and find my peace of mind / But I know what I miss.' Each guitar solo is out of place, the horns are a reprieve but never a revelation, they don't have the permanence of pop, the urgency of punk, the shuffle of rock, or, it seems, an ear for music.

Rather innocuous. A couple of somewhat catchy tunes but to me this album was largely nondescript and forgettable.

nicht gut.

I really liked “In It For The Money,” “Richard III,” “Tonight” and a few others so I was definitely pleasantly surprised to add some new songs to my listening but some others were alright and I just listened through them but wouldn’t keep going back to

Superass. No, not really. But it's not outstanding either.

There had been many worse Britpop bands on this list. Still, nothing to go back to. At least, it wasn't annoying.

I didn't hate it, but why do Supergrass have a second album on this list? It's just generic Brit Pop. It's OK in the background, not offensive but not awesome either. I preferred their previous album.

Listened to the first 8 tracks and gave up…

an ok brit pop album. Not sure I would go back to it, but can hear how it was probably good at the time.

Лучшая песня - In It For The Money.

I already got their other one, which was decent, but not worthy of two albums. It’s good for britpop, but that’s a low bar, amigo.

Most of the songs blended together, broken up by a couple solid rockers.

I didn't get this one. Was glad when it ended.

Kinda boring. Nothing really stood out to me. It was fine but only fine.

Kind of boring.

meh. nothing special

🎧this was kinda ass

Not really sure what to say about this album… not bad but now really good either. It sounds like 90s British rock for the most part. The songs are well structured and produced. Just not hearing anything that knocks my socks off. Only song I fell in love with is “Cheapskate”. Otherwise it is a forgettable album to me.

Never judge an album by the cover. I saw this album pop up this morning, and the first thing I thought was bluegrass. I did not expect an alternative British band who I have never heard of before, and will probably never hear again. There really is nothing new here. They sound like a lot of the bubblegum pop alternative bands of the 90s. Worthy efforts: Richard III, Cheapskate.

It’s alright. Nothing novel.

This was just whatever a few cool tracks. The last song was trash

was kinda boring, only a few songs I actually liked

Only slightly less boring than Oasis, but still sucks as much as most Britpop garbage from the ‘90s does. Albums that are far more interesting and in my opinion more worthy of a list like this that came out in 1997 and were not included on this list. Depeche Mode ULTRA David Bowie EARTHLING THE LOST HIGHWAY film soundtrack Duran Duran MEDAZZALAND Massive Attack MEZZANINE Rammstein SEHNSUCHT

Not for me. Idk.

boring

A lot of 90s sound. not much of it worth repeating.

Not my thing, it was ok

Cool but somehow not for me.

Somehow, it took me three attempts to get through this album. It's not even bad, but music like this is a dime a dozen. Doesn't stand out from the masses of boring Rock Indie Britpop bands. 2.5/5

Yawn..another 90s retro rock brit pop album. Not bad, but unexciting.

Didn't realise they sound so much like the beetles Odd that I recognised when one of the songs would come "if you wannnnaaa goooo ooooooooout"

I listened to it twice feeling like I must've missed something. Pretty generic sounding. If I missed something I'm going to likely keep missing it.

Sounds like the 1990s. Over compressed. Some alright compositions, but it all sounds like a muddy mess.

Weird chords. He can sing though.

First listen.

My mum said it the best “90’s Grunge mixed with supertramp”. Some nice songs but overall an interesting blend and def not the vibe from the cover

Weird one. Was able to run in the background, but didn't like it that much

Richard III, Sun Hits The Sky, Going Out are big tunes, but can't give it more than a 2 as it's only alright (haha)

Not bad but not great. Kind of blended into the background

Huh, I listened to this but took no notes. Today, I came back to rate it and I can't remember a damn thing about it...

Pretty forgettable

It's oh-kay 90s rock. I don't know, none of it tickled my ears in too spectacular a fashion. A couple of nice songs in the middle. I did appreciate what sounded very much like a Theremin in one of the songs. Also I'm not so big on Zappa, but that album title is exactly 29 years past the expiration date lol.

Forgettable rock

It's alright. Finished it, but tad boring

It was a bit of a mission to listen to this album

Don’t know them, seem competent. Inspirational? Myst hear? Nah.

A perfectly ok record. It was fine. A couple tracks were catchy but I'm unlikely to revisit this one.

Mid-tier late '90s alt rock. Pretty boring.

Hmmm...I guess these guys were big in Britain? I've always known of them. Can't say I ever sat down to listen to a full album. Confession: I still haven't. I couldn't make it all the way through this one. It's alright. But...nothing really hit me as being special. Maybe you had to be there.

This is very clearly well made. But it feels shallow and empty. Pop paint by numbers.

never understood the hoohah about these guys - just loud, fast, snappy pop rock. Think you probably had to be in UK in mid 90's to appreciate them. Just drivel imho

Not many album covers bother me but for some reason this does. There is something in that picture which unsettles me. Not a new thing has I can recollect whinching away every time I saw it when the album was new and popular. Now an album cover should never detract from the music therein but has I was never interested in Supergrass in the first place this was an album which I never went near. So when this album popped up this morning and after clearing up the sick I did give it a listen for the first time. It’s standard mid 90’s britpop but nowhere near the excellence of Oasis or Blur. So just why its on this list is a mystery. Having said that it’s not as distasteful as its cover and sits firmly in the ‘an album I would never buy but happy to hear occasionally on a random playlist’ category. 2/5 1/12/24

It was fine. A pretty unforgettable album in my opinion

British alternativ rock. Appears a bit egocentric.

The affection for Supergrass has always baffled me. They are such mediocre pop rock. Like a very cheerful Smashing Pumpkins. In It for the Money is right. Very calculated MTV, Top 40 pop. This is very clearly well made. But it feels shallow and empty. Pop paint by numbers.

I am not really understanding why this album is on here. Much more interesting albums have come out in 1997. Sorry. I did like Gaz' recent solo outing. But this is just a bit too simple.

Very nice

Veers a bit too much in to quite annoying noise too often for me. Even people I know personally have done this better so… medium grass.

I would just call it forgetable but unfortunately there were some very irritating bits.

Green Day, but make it british. Green Day's a late 80's band- isn't that wild?

I thought this was a fun short album but in all honesty it felt like a little bit of a filler. I don’t totally agree with influence and what not but it wasn’t necessarily a bad album. I just felt like other choices could have been made.

Late nineties cheeky rock. It's okay.

Meh. Not really into this.

This was cool. Nothing really stuck

The first three tracks were just painful to listen to Late in the Day was the first listenable song on this album for me. I quite enjoyed this one Everything that followed was mediocre and relatively inoffensive. I could have listened to all of them in their entirety, but why? There was nothing compelling here for me

The most forgettable album yet. Supergrass does a great job of sounding like every other popular band in the late 90’s. The production is well done and the band seems to be solid but the vocals and songs are a joke.

It's like Smashing Pumpkins but more generic and boring.

This is fine. '90s rock with '70s fields there's some interesting stuff there but nothing that popped.

Always nice to meet another Michael Quinn... After reminding myself of the sporadic awesomeness from the albums and singles before and after this record, I listened to this LP. Um.... what? This is so meh. Terrific example of lazy 90's BritPop followup albums when no matter what you do, NME is going to suck your cock.

Meh. Don’t know how to describe it, but don’t like it.

This grew on me a little for the second play, but not much. I don't really get the appeal or interest. Just feels like a generic rock album to me.

I was lenient with "I Should Coco" (that word in my review then should have been "snotty", not "snooty") and I liked it more than this one here, but the truth is: I don't care much for this music. Wall of noise, here a Hammond organ, the -snotty- vocals, an attitude that wants to be punk but makes sure I understand they know ALL the chords... nah. Second half properly annoyed me.

Not into it, not interested. Sounds like 50 other albums on this list. Singer sounds a bit like Billy Corgan to me, but I'd rather listen to Smashing Pumpkins personally.

I remember the first time I told someone I liked a Supergrass song they made fun of me, so I had this idea that they kinda sucked. They are pretty hit or miss for me honestly. There is a sneering Britpop attitude that just kinda sucks. Like damn imagine being this in Oasis’s shadow. Late in the day is, ugh

It's not that good.

ok….

Bad version of Smashing Pumpkins

Not a bad album per se. Music is quite decent... only it's not the sort I like. 2/5

OK. Don’t need to hear it again.

Not my thing

Haluan suositella Technotronicin Pump Up The Jam -albumia.

once again I had never heard of this band. I did recognize a song.... weird. they are ok

This album introduced me.to the wonder of the Theremin via "Richard III", and "Late In The Day" still hits the right notes, the rest of the album is mostly forgettable though.

It was pleasant to listen to, but not super my thing. Enjoyed some of the piano usage.

The parts don't quite add up. I have a slight soft spot for Supergrass and this is decent, well-crafted pop. But I don't much like it 🤷🏻‍♂️

This album is perfectly fine. A bit rock and roll, decent tunes, but an all-time must-hear classic? I don't think so. It reminds me of a slightly less rockin' You Am I. It was OK while I was listening to it, but I can't remember a single tune. And it is really long. Much longer than it needs to be. 2.5 stars for being totally average, rounding down for overstaying its welcome.

This left no impression on me at all.

Man, I don't know. I was waiting for it to get going and it never really did. Just felt like all the most meh parts of Radiohead.

An alright alt. rock album. All in all it was a bit bloated and uninteresting. There were a few unique bits here and there, but nothing I'd go out of my way for again. 2/5. I ended up listening again (despite what I said above). I think what dissuades me is that the album isn't sequenced all that well. The music is good/great on individual songs, but they fade out in uninteresting ways and feel like a connection of similar singles. I'd probably give this a 2.4/5 or relisten, but still rounds to a 2/5.

No este álbum, pero podría estar peor

I liked this album, it was a pretty solid rock album with some interesting variations. Good riffs, vocals weren't annoying. Not amazing but definitely didn't suck.

Generic Oasis wannabes. Nothing particularly original or special here. It's not bad, it's not good, it just is. This is the second record I've had by this band though, and this one is indistinguishable from the other. They certainly don't need 2 entries on this list.

Pretty unoriginal

At least this album has a bit more edge than most Britpop. I'm still not sure why the authors of the book are so obsessed with that insipid movement though. It's definitely one of the strongest biases of this list. Could be worse though, at least it's not more Blur.

melodischer Rock

Some nice moments here and there, but that’s it.

I had high hopes for this since I previously got I Should Coco on this list and surprisingly enjoyed it. This, not so much. Everything was just kind of middling and nothing stood out. “Late In The Day” and “G-Song” were probably my favorites, but it’s a very meh album.

Loud messy guitar with an equally messy vocalist

A familiar sound from a band I’ve only learned of through 1001 albums. I don’t miss the sound but there were a couple songs pleasing to the ear.

Just on there verge of me liking it. It's okay, but not great, the whole time.

nothing captured me but not bad. could i write poetry to this? n

Typically this is my thing and there are several Suoergrass songs I like, but I just couldn't vibe with the album. There are just some bands I can handle in small doses but no more than that.

It's kinda boring lol

Not so good

The instruments aren't bad, and I really liked the organ and modulated guitar in It's Not Me, but other than that, I really couldn't stand this album. This album was not even good as background music—it made it difficult to think abouting anything but counting down the minutes until the album ended. Perhaps I found the vocals annoying—I'm not sure, I can't really put my finger of it. I only know for sure that I didn't like it and don't intend to listen to it again while still recognizing that someone else may like it.

It was fine, but I am afraid I was not enthralled enough to want to plan a second date.

This largely passed me by and I didn't particularly feel the need to repeat listen. While rockier than I imagined, I didn't hear anything that memorable.

Okay, but didn’t leave much of an impression.

Very mediocre album. Songs were all fine, I just don’t really care. 4/10 Top 1: 1. Sun Hits The Sky

Was alright but not something I would return for more of.

This started out well but got weird and slightly annoying. The first half was definitely better. 2.5/5

It was fine. Didn't hate it, didn't love it.

Ah don't see much value in screaming, probably just not my style.

Meandering and atmospheric.

Good sound, not for me

Very classic 90s with a few interesting tracks, solid meh. Starting to be more generous with the 1 & 2 stars since there are 1,001 albums to rate.

Pretty good

Fun in places, not really my style 2/5

experimental - seemed like they were looking for a distinctive sound, but couldn’t land on one genre.

Unremarkable.

Not too bad, but too much didn't stick with me

Ehh, it's not bad, it's just not something I can get into.

Not a fan

Decent britpop kinda getting tired off all the Brit stuff

The other one I had on this list was better (can't remember the name) this just was there. Rarely caught my attention.

Ok i guess. Sounded like smashing pumpkins mixed with our lady peace. Nothing special but not terrible. 2.5 i think

I enjoyed 'I Should Coco' but this one was too annoying.

some cool instrumentals now and there

I'm having trouble figuring out how this band got two albums on the list. I can understand one, due to the success they found, but their sound is so basic. Found myself feel annoyed through most of this.
