Cheerful, refreshing background music that probably goes really well with a poolside or beach pub setting. But, other than "that famous track", it's not something that shakes the very foundations of music. Indeed, the entire affair sounds like it's just one song that's about an hour long (and clearly, that had been a deliberate creative choice). Not that there's anything wrong with cheery music for the background.

Never heard this in full before, though I evidently heard a lot of it on Triple J when it came out. It's good enough, I suppose, "Frontier Psychiatrist was a genius single, but it wears thin over a whole album. Something with an estimated 1000-3000 samples should be doing more with them, I feel.

Electricity Since you drop the ball, it will roll all the way down, here it comes the whole mountain. By the name Avalanches you might think it's a revolutionary group or a single artist showing another view in the morning, but when you're listening you start to understand why they get that name. Assuming you're in that period of time you can mix anything with everything, that can be a massive success or a messing failure, let's put them in the middle of this scenario. Fact is no one survives after an avalanche or gets out without a scratch, this one is here to prove how things can go after a natural-case-event. Don't get too acquainted with the situation, just let it go and try to learn new stuff. D

I didn’t really have any use for this. It wasn’t actually offensive but struck me as wall after wall of bland sound assortments narrowly meeting the definition of a song.

Best Song: Frontier Psychologist. The selection of vocal tracks work really well together to tell a story, mixed well with nice use of drums and scratches. Worst Song: Flight Tonight. If you're going to repeat a sample that much, make sure you've picked an interesting sample. Overall: A good background album that feels almost more like a live DJ set than a recorded album. Nothing really stands out as high- or lowlights; instead the entire production works as a single flow. Feels like great music to have in the background while cooking or working.

That boy needs therapy! I am not a big fan of the Genre, but this one is good - maybe even - really good! I knew the song "Frontier Psychiatrist" from when I lived in Europe back in those days. It's a Gem. The album is really interesting with its use of loops and samples. Definitely the best electronica album on this list (so far). 3/5

This album is so bouncy and fun, constantly weaving these grooves from all over. Radio is a jam. A Different Feeling reminds me of old Daft Punk. Frontier Psychologist is a favorite. Etoh into Summer Crane is smooth like butter.

Didn’t like

Crazy energy but not sure for what? Maybe to out 🏃‍♀️ the Avalanche. Usually when listening to albums I’ll know the hits of the album and I knew every single “ None” of them. This would be great club music but not sure which club😊

A very interesting album, listed as pop, but felt almost like a jet set radio knock off soundtrack. Lots of repeating lines and synths which seems like the perfect skating/rollerblading type of music. Would I listen to it again? Probably not.

Very cool album. I enjoy the Avalanches, they've got a really neat sample-based style. I know I've heard this before, along with another album or two from them. Not all that many standout tracks, but as a whole this is a fun one to return to. Varied in a good way. Favorite tracks: Since I Left You, Stay Another Season, Electricity, Live at Dominoes. Album art: Kind of inscrutable. I always knew it was water and waves, but I forget there's a couple boats of people in this picture too. Regardless, a painting as cover art is always welcome. 4/5

Really cleverly made with all those samples. Poppy and easy to listen to but the tracks have a lot of layers on re-listens. The album is sort of a complete experience, very well crafted. Been one of my favorites for a while!

Goddamn this was magnificent. There are so many different genres coming together on this thing, and even on individual songs. The samples are really fun and can be super random to add some spice, too. Jammy. 10/10

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Since I Left You, Stay Another Season, Flight Tonight, Tonight May Have To Last Me All My Life, Frontier Psychiatrist Cutting Edge: Radio Overall Notes: It may be cliche, but this is truly an experience of an album. The way in which these snippets of audio odds and ends weave in and out of the composition is a true musical marvel. The unique ebb and flow of this album is unlike anything I've ever heard before, it's like it puts you in its own little world, completely foreign yet familiar at the same time. I will say, some of the songs don't really get all the way there for me, but when it works it WORKS. Since I Left You and Frontier Psychiatrist being prime examples, the former beautifully familiar and the second absurdly foreign. I love both, especially when paired with their music videos. High 4.

Could see this being fun at a party maybe, but I found it annoying and too repetitive. I did recognize and enjoy "Frontier Psychologist" but that was my only respite. More than ready to be through with this by the end.

If this came out just a couple years earlier than it did I'd be much more impressed with it. But to me it's got nothing on artists like DJ Shadow, Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, etc. I mean it's fun and all but it just seems to lack the depth and range of those artists I mentioned above that preceded them. And as impressive as the number of samples on this album is, I don't think they utilized them as well as artists like Girl Talk or J Dilla would go on to do a few years later. I could see this working in a much more interesting way as beats for MCs to rap over, but as is, nothing really sticks out to me, with the exception of "Frontier Psychiatrist," which I feel is a standout track.

Had high hopes for this one because "Frontier Psychiatrist" is a bop... but the rest fell flat for me. Sampling is fine but not very interesting to me.

This one was all over the map. I liked it on places, got bored/detached at others. It's easily the best album I've gotten in this genre so far. I think this album could be a grower for me.

brilliant plunderphonics

I nearly didn't listen tot this because I was doing sound yesterday for work. I'm very glad I didn't as I've never heard anything like this, it manages to be catchy without feeling tiresome and experimental without feeling convoluted.

This is not a bad album, it is just so repetitive that i had a hard time getting through it. No recognized xongs

Cool vibes

One of the most beautiful and powerful listening experiences from start to finish, an hour of sheer bliss and brilliance. If you want to hear the album as it was intended to be heard, listen to the Zomba promo version. It has one more song (With My Baby) and Extra Kings is fully realized as the streaming version is sorely lacking. Regardless, amazing album all the way.

Plunderphonics is a unique genre for it's methodologies. By strictly using pre-existing music, artists will mix, match, and employ unconventional methods to create a whole new piece of art. Songs will be sliced and looped beyond recognition. It's an undertaking that requires insane production skills, as production becomes the songwriting in a way. If any album has mastered this art, it's Since I Left You. There are around 900 samples in this album. It is a feat. The Avalanches themselves said that they were crazy, and they wouldn't ever get that ambitious on future releases. That ambition is what makes Since I Left You so incredible though, as the samples envelop and keep you on a constant adventure of The Avalanche's perfectly-crafted sonic landscape. Loops ground each song and get built upon with more and more samples. They come from every which way, there's no use in following each thread as it's best to just ride the wave. The album art is a perfect representation of this feeling, I think. Thematically, The Avalanches leans into adventure through use of varying songs. As they all seamlessly transition from one to another, it's like crossing borders or biomes on your adventure. Track titles are indicative of this, with "Flight Tonight", "Pablo's Cruise", and "Little Journey". Worth nothing they had to re-record their big hit "Frontier Psychiatrist" because of samples not clearing (I'd imagine other songs got the same treatment). I encourage you to seek out the song on YouTube because it's a classic. Anyway. This is an amazing album. I can't stress enough how much I adore the thing. Just so consistently well-made throughout the runtime and brimming with good times.

“Get a drink! Have good time now! Welcome to paradise!” Since I left you is one of my favorite songs of all time, but I don’t think I listened to this in full until like 2010 or something and to my surprise, I had hear many of those tunes in clubs and parties. It’s quite a trip, the kind of sounds you would expect to hear at a rave a the time, not as cheerful as the title track but a great collection nevertheless. A bit tiresome nowadays but it was banging back in the day

I felt the world something new

It’s an interesting experiment, creating an entire album from samples and there’s no shortage of cool samples weaved into the songs. But outside of the first track the others seem to be lacking a core.

It takes great talent to sample from so many sources and then stitch them together into a(semi) coherent whole. So I must give them credit for that. I thought Since you left me and Psychiatrist were excellent, and I may have enjoyed the disco dance beats more, say 20 yrs ago when this first came out. My reference album for sampled music is still KLF’s seminal “Chill out” though. But this was still a pretty good effort

Why did I need to listen to this? It just wasn't very good. Insanely repetitive.

Pretty dope sample album. Really enjoyed hearts in 3/4 time. Great transitions. Can't give it a 5 because some of the tracks ended up being too repetitive and sampled, like Frontier Psychiatrist. But overall definitely enjoyed it and would listen to it again.

Piecing together old songs to make new…. Not bad, but not my thing and I while I can appreciate the work that went into it to pull it off - I guess I don’t appreciate it as much as a band that picks up musical instruments and makes actual music. 2

I've heard of these guys but never actually heard them - going by the name/cover I'm gonna say indie rock? Ok it's more like indie disco, if such a genre exists. A bit sappy and boring. Lots of samples, looped shit, nothing really interesting. Oh, the song Frontier Psychiatrist is familiar. Overall didn't like this. Ran too long as well. 2/5.

I recall driving to JB-Hifi in Woden to pick this up on release weekend and listening to it in the car on the way home. When 'Stay Another Season' hit I couldn't believe my ears... did Madonna okay that sample? Apparently she did. Wow!

Brings back memories of shared houses, Sydney Olympics and Rage on the TV.

Oh no. Didn't like that... if I'd paid more attention it may have dropped to a 1 star.

Would it be fair to call this a musical quilt? Lots of little fabrics stitched together to make its own thing? Sometimes it seems really chaotic and crazy, but it also is delightful sometimes. I love it when you get just a moment of something recognizable that sits in an unfamiliar setting, like Debbie Reynolds singing "Tammy" over a 70s funk beat. It doesn't always work perfectly, but it's fun to see what happens.

I am not at all familiar with The Avalanches. So, this was a new listening adventure, and I sid enjoy it very much! There were moments where I felt like I was in a club and moments where I was kicking back to chill…and there were also a couple of moments where I was thinking “What…is…happening, and how can we make it stop?!?” But those moments were not disruptive enough to lessen my ‘love’ rating. Also, Frontier Psychiatrist is an absolute masterpiece!!

This was a great dance party. Tempos and styles changed but we kept grooving from start to finish. Loved it.

DISCO lives forever! Fantastic album. Kept finding myself dancing for pretty much for the full hour. The cats thought I had lost it. The sampling on this album is wonderful. These songs are complex and cohesive sample assemblies that had me constantly lit up with moments of recognition. “Is that The Hustle?” “Fleetwood Mac!” “It’s Debbie Reynolds!” “There’s Holiday!” “The NBC Mystery Movie Theme?!” “You’re crazier than a coconut!” “Isn’t that a Disney short?” I’m not singling out any songs. This album is too fun as a whole journey. Fun fun fun yes indeed!

Bad semi electro

Another electronic album, but this time it's a little bit different from the other ones on this list. The first song is a nice one and for it, the album deserves 2 stars for it, but it's just another simple electronic album. For me, it's very hard to note great qualities in this kind of music despite the classical albums (that is not the case of this).

Cool concept...light but with layers

An Absolute Jam. All of tracks on here are linked perfectly well to create a fantastic experience front to back. Perfect record, nuff said. Favorites: Since I Left You, Radio, Electricity, Frontier Psychiatrist

Essential listening but by a narrower margin than I expected. The appeal of the album is in the pure volume of its flow, the overwhelming cascade of samples in a configuration which changes just ahead of your ear. But sound design seems largely left behind, and there's quite a bit of loud from the front and not much detail work other than the arrangement.

A 3.5 for me. I really enjoyed it because of the style and sampling. No vocals, but the way that the samples were used still helped to tell a story with each song. It did feel just a bit repetitive and long at times. Deep and complex sound without being too busy.

Incredible timing. I was listening to this one on my own two days before this popped up here. I hadn’t listened to it in years prior. If you like heavily sample driven music that’s very cycling and self referential, then I think this is going to work. So many things to notice on replays. I really dig this music.

Since I Left You by The Avalanches (2000) On the plus side, there is a remarkable consistency on each of these tracks in tempo and tonality. On the minus side is everything else. 1/5

A Quentin Tarantino movie is the best way to describe this album. Like his movies, this album creates something original out of a plethora of preexisting media from classical music samples, to audio clips, to other samples. In addition, all of the electronica albums I've gotten so far have been very distinct from each other yet still tend to have the same markers. Fatboy Slim is different from Daft Punk is different from The Avalanches yet they are all undeniably the same genre. This felt more ambient than those other albums though. Fav songs: Radio, Live at Dominoes

I adore the two standout tracks—utterly fantastic blending/mashing of music. Those tracks are five stars. Everything else is tiresome—fast. I feel like those tracks are a promise and the album just completely fails to live up to them. I want to give two stars just for those favorite tracks, but if an album makes me want to turn it off… well.

Oh dear. I hate repeated vocal samples. Frontier Psychiatrist used to make me want to break my radio. This might hurt... First album I can't actually listen to. So annoying. Good loops, but that horse sample and the same word 1,000 times just sounds moronic.

One of the great mixtapes of all time and the soundtrack to the type of millennial house party I always dreamt of going to but was never cool enough to be invited to. For inventiveness, the sheer amount and variety of samples used (which shimmer and melt into, then emerge out of each other seamlessly), the nostalgia factor, the tinges of longing mixed with sadness, and for just the sheer fun factor you can't beat this. It’s lightning in a bottle.

First time hearing the whole album, it actually holds up well. First album I'm aware of to be basically 100% samples, which was ahead of its time

This album rocked

I had a great time listening to this whilst cooking on Friday night, so I'll use cooking as an organising metaphor for this. The Avalanches take the raw ingredients of beats and samples, and boil, mascerate, broil, steam and fry them up into an intoxicating culinary ride. Flavours bloom and burst from song to song; as with that other Michelin-starred sampler, DJ Shadow, these tracks feel human and organic in a way a lot of electronic music fails to muster. Perhaps because so much attention is paid to the musical palette, the mis-en-place and the order of cooking the ingredients to achieve maximum depth of flavour.

Looped rhythms provide the soundtrack to a meditative disco in your mind, bleeps and blops poke the hard ridge at the back of your head, and maybe-familiar samples keep you guessing. In other words, it's a balancing act got right most of the time, the latter two elements keeping the tyranny of easy listening at bay. This also gave me pause to reflect that I was able to get a bead on this album because the 1001 listening exercise has exposed me to more albums of this type than I'd normally listen to, i.e. Chemical Brothers, Air and Daft. Praise be.

29th September 2021 Listened on the living room speaker in the morning while chatting to one of jen's model boys will who stayed. Really enjoyable, innovative and would certainly reward repeat listens.

Might have one of the best track flows there is, each song goes right into the next seamlessly. Love this album, so groovy.

This is not very compelling for me. The horsey sound that goes from "Stay Another Season" and bleeds into "With My Baby" is just disconcerting.

Definitely interesting in how many samples and layers exist in these songs. I feel like it has Moby Play and Kanye MDTF on steroids. Many of the songs work, I really enjoy Electricity, the vibe of Etoh, Psychiatrist and Since I Left You. Too many others feel like unsuccessful experiments.

Such a fun and joyous cacophony of found sounds. 9/10

A lot of noise and lyrics are an afterthought.

I had never listened to this album or any of the songs having never heard of the band. Generally, I don't listen to electronic music. It was an interesting mix of genres with an electronic background making it all flow together. Some of the ones with a more Motown sound were soothing to listen to in traffic, and I was genuinely surprised that I liked it.

I'm not a fan of the genre, and this album doesn't do anything to change that.

It was pretty good. I loved the coherency of the album and how tracks lead in together. I can definitely see how it shaped the next twenty years of sampling in music. Highlights: 1, 3, 10, 13, and 17.

I absolutely can't stand when songs just repeat the same lyric over and over, which is why 'Flight Tonight' really got on my nerves and ruined this listening experience for me. It was grating and obnoxious in the middle of what was otherwise a fine album. Aside from that glaring problem, the album is good background listening, not really something that you need to focus on or pay much attention to.

without a doubt a seminal album in the world of electronic music. doesn't get much better than this as far as experimental/glitchy electronic goes

"Since I left you" is a staple and it paved the way for sample based instrumentals that ooze familiarity. This style of songwriting totally opened the door for this genre. If you enjoyed this, be sure to check out the artist "Dirty Art Club".

Amazing flow as an album, feels like a great DJ set.

A fun, disco-pop album created entirely by sampling songs & sounds from other vinyl's. This interesting piece of music can be played for any occasion to turn it into a good time, and each song flows beautifully into the next. This album has a combination of explorative innocence as well as deeper, meaningful sections when it comes to the samples being used.

The tracks on this album start out fun and funky but quickly become way too repetitive. You’ll find yourself skipping to the next song about half way through the current one. There’s just not enough substance to rate this LP higher . 2 Stars!

Not very much substance for a dedicated listening but 100% a top-tier BGM listening experience. Flows beautifully as a whole piece as well as individual songs.

Not my kind of music

This was a fun album to listen to. But a couple songs really just missed. But you can’t have it all.

** Controversial **- Not my ususal genre pick to be fair, but I think it's pretty boring. I get that they are master samplers or some such, and sure, it's quite a feat to mash together 3,500 samples of other people's musical genius to bring this album together, but I just don't think it sounds that great. So. Repetitive.

I owned this album first time around. it remained largely unplayed. Frontier Psychiatrist is a banger. the rest no so much

"Tonight may have to last me all my life" (Tonight) Me parece muy interesante y un trabajazo que todas las canciones estén unidas unas con otras, pero al mismo tiempo eso hace que pierda un poco el hilo.

Listened to this album to death when I was younger. It's exactly what I want out of an electronic/dance album. Saw them live once and they actually play with a full band live which is pretty cool.

Never heard of this Aussie electronic crew until now. Pretty fun stuff with a hip hop flav!! Not doing a full review since I'm a couple of days behind on my listening due to our 2020 countdown weekend, but glad to know who The Avalanches are!

A marvelously put together concept that flows together so well. One of the most creative albums I've heard

Great album, felt like I was having a party.

An absolute masterpiece and one of the best sample-based albums ever made, if not the best. This is a fantastic album technically and musically, and I cannot come up with any serious criticisms of it. It is truly a wonderful album and always a pleasure to listen to no matter how many times I've heard it already.

Listened to the album in full twice. Liked it for work music, probably wouldn't use it for anything else.

This reminds me strongly of my time in Australia, when I discovered The Avalanches. Incidentally also an Australian band (not the reason though). Absolute banger 5 stars EASY. Fun, alternative and love the use of layered sampling

I have a lot of pre-existing fondness for this album - takes me back to end of uni / just graduated times. The title track was definitely the soundtrack of a summer around then. It's just a fantastic melange of samples whirled together to produce some wonderful pop. I still really dig it! Fave track - this is one of those albums where picking fave tracks makes less sense, as the way everything segues together is part of the magic. "Frontier Psychiatrist" should get a mention for the fantastic music video. "Radio" is a highlight, as is "Two Hearts in 3/4 Time" as is "Tonight May Have to Last Me All My Life" Awesome stuff.

3.5 | Justo durante 2019-2020 me eche un clavado profundo a muchos microgéneros musicales que había escuchado nombres y no conocía. Entre los vapor trap, pop hipnagógico y eccojams estaba justo lo que es este disco; el plunderphonics. Técnicamente creo es un disco admirable, el trabajo de siquiera juntar esa cantidad de samples y todavía hacer canciones que tienen sentido y suenen bien no es poca cosa. Se me hacen canciones que para apreciarlas uno debe escuchar una y otra vez para poder notar las capas, reconocer de dónde viene x o y frase o línea. El problema es que un disco de una hora completo es quizá algo abrumador de golpe. Aunque son canciones que me agradaron tanto como música como rompecabezas no puedo mencionar una en particular que me haya saltado como para recordar su título y todo el disco se mezcla en una masa continua de locura muy bien ordenada. No creo que sea algo que vuelva a poner seguido pero en el caso de estar de antojo o enseñar a alguien qué son los plunderphonics se me hace un excelente trabajo.

De los pocos discos de electrónica y de los menos que he escuchado completos, me parece que este disco es excelente. El uso de samples de otros audios de diferentes naturalezas (música, películas, dialogos, etc) no sé si es revolucionario en la música pero creo que está manejado perfectamente. Conocía Since I left you y 'la de that boy needs therapy' y fue una agradable sorpresa encontrarlas aquí. Definitiva adición a mi librería. Great beats and hooks, sounded a lot like a mashup of original music. I had heard Frontier Psychiatrist before, so glad to be exposed to the rest of Avalanches songs on this album. Highlights: Since I Left You Two Hearts in 3/4 Time Frontier Psychiatrist Live at Dominoes

Electricity was slow to start, but cool with harmonized vocals, and pumped up with phat bass line. This is an interesting album - I've never heard something so completely derived from sampling. I think I prefer the dance/club songs more than the singles. Favorite songs, Electricity and Live at Dominoes. Least favorite, 3/4 Time. Also if I were to listen to the album again I might skip over Frontier Psychiatrist.

This entire album is like a repetitive fever dream. It's interesting, but I probably wouldn't listen to it sober. If it wasn't so repetitive I might have enjoyed it more.

Me gustó mucho el disco. Me hubiera encantado poderlo escuchar todo de corrido pero por mi vida que todas las ve es que lo intenté algo interrumpía. Lo intentaré después. Me agrada que todo el disco es como un “dj set” y utilizan sampleos muy interesantes. Claro que tiene canciones raras, pero a pesar de su naturaleza experimental, tiene una vibra buenaondita y relajada.

Disco en vivo no hay problema pero neta electrónica? 2-3 rolas está chido pero no un disco completo. No entiendo a veces esta lista.

En resumen se me hizo aburrido. Sé que creativamente tiene su rollo y que los sampleos son muy especiales pero en pocas palabras no noté un principio ni un fin y ni siquiera me hizo "mover el pie" al ritmo. Le daría el 2.5.

Funny album. Not to terrable.

A big bright spring time party where all my mates are having a beautiful time. Complex and intricately layered without being hard to listen to. They somehow manage to capture a thousand textures and feelings in every song (eg Etoh). Love the foreshadowing of the horse neigh early on before it comes back on Frontier Psychiatrist (and all the reoccuring samples for that matter). Also love the vinyl crackle that permeates through the whole thing. And the intros and outros all seem to be incredibly well thought out and compliment the incoming tracks so well. They're all 5/5 songs but highlights have to be Radio, Two Hearts in 3/4 Time and Electricity (huge tune). Pablo's Cruise gets an honourable mention too, what a freaky track. Also.. 𝖆𝖚𝖘𝖘𝖎𝖊 𝖕𝖗𝖎𝖉𝖊 𝖇𝖗𝖆

This album is an hour long song basically. It weaves through a ton of samples to make glistening and sparkly beats with that old time flavor. A lot of the samples still have the record popping sounds on them which I appreciate (either artificial or otherwise). I do think there is a couple filler tracks that didn’t really stand out as much to me and this could’ve probably been a 50 minute record. That being said, this is probably in the top 5 quintessential plunderphonics records and if you are into electronic music and sampling, you need to hear this record at least once. Favorite song: Frontier Psychiatrist Least favorite song: A Different Feeling

I have listened to this classic before. Standouts are the title track and frontier psychiatrist for me but it is an easy listen the entire way through.

Probably would've thought this was super cool when it came out, but there is so much cool lofi beats and chill wave type music out there now.

This goes on too long and is really quite boring. Frontier Psychiatrist is a great tune, always was, but here it gets drowned by the sameyness going on all around it. This album mainly just made me want to listen to the songs it has sampled.

Not really my taste, it has some of its moments like "Since I Left You" to "Two Hearts In 3/4 Time" and the 11th track "Frontier Psychiatrist" which was my personal favorite on the album. Overall this album was a 5/10 for me, it tries to be meaningful, but most of the time it sounds disturbing.

I feel like this should be more appealing to me than it is. Maybe it's that I'm not quite 100% today, but the electronic, dancy vibe just didn't do it for me. I'd be willing to give it another chance, so for now it's getting a really weak 3 stars.

Ein Live-Album... und ich höre Rap... kann es schlimmer anfangen? Nach dem der miserable Start die Messlatte sehr niedrig angesetzt hatte, war das Album gar nich so schrecklich. Eher EDM à la Bonobo. Gerappt wurde gar nicht so oft oder der Beat und die Musik haben mich gut davon abgelenkt, sodass ich ihn streckenweise vergessen hatte. Aber genug gelobt. Hören werde ich die Platte eher nicht, einfach weil ich für den Genre oder die Stimmung, welche das auch immer sein mag, schon genug Alternativen habe.

I can dig this. Makes me want to drink weird cocktails- for some reason they're all the color of campari. This album transcends the genre of electronic music as I have consumed it during my life, ranging from piano laden jazzy lofi, to trance-ish tunes by the end of the record. The constant sampling is reminiscent of Bonobo and Nightmares on Wax.

I feel like one would need a belly full of E to really jam to this album. It's poppy without being catchy, edgy without being cool, eclectic without being interesting. It feels like some kids who were big fans of The Crystal Method tried their hands at something similar but missed the mark. It listens like a "nailed it" meme. The only thing saving this from a one-star review is the production being top-notch and because the track "Frontier Psychiatrist" is actually a really fun track for being a giant, jumbled sample-salad. It's about a minute too long but it's fun nonetheless.

I’m a big fan of the hits off of this album but it tends to drone on when listening to the whole thing

Since I Left You makes up for its lack of obvious stand out tracks with impeccably perfect song transitions, catchy rhythms that are equally great for daydreaming as they are partying, and eclectic sample choices which give it that weird mysterious edge. Within these songs is a creative world, barely out of reach, with life and texture. It's like musical cinema or a gripping book. It's not perfect but it's worth getting lost in its suspense, romance, and overall joie de vivre. A worthy classic imo. Probably most appealing to EDM fans or very nerdy hip-hop fans as it has that DJ Shadow feeling.
