Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water

💩-1*
Love this album for over 40yrs, recently got live over Hammersmith vinyl, I saw 7 times in my youth, best gig was at Hammersmith amazing
God True story my wife's uncle was a bouncy for a concert Jimi played just outside of Leeds England, he saw Jimi come out of the venue and walk down the street, didn't speak to him or get an autograph. 😭 'So fine' is a great inclusion as it highlights how far forward Jimi was compared to the average bands, with the obvious exceptions Polymath
Light weight for a list of 1001 albums
My bus has turned into a space ship and major tom is at the controls as we fly away...........now a sexy disco has started we are dancing away in a most peculiar way.......goodbye everyone....... Polymath
I listened to one side and that was enough,.I am sure they have many people who love the smashing pumpkins, but it was too long and inconsistent for me, a lot like use your illusion 1&2 it could have made a great single album
Brought back a lot of memories, I was there in the tent at reading to see the foo fighters in one of their very first concerts. I really enjoyed listening to this, when it first came out I judged it too much against Nirvana. Time has been very kind to this album easily 5*
Not my thing, but I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would, deserves five stars as a superbly well made album with lots of flare and creativity
This is my favourite Bowie album, I love the lyrics and the musical style, to me it is his most coherent and connected album. Over shadowed by Ziggy, unfairly I believe as this is a better work. Much more creativity and emotional content. Easily 5 🤩
Great for the genre
I have been listening to this since I was 9, 53 now old, love this album more than any other, it has it's flaws but don't we all. it's like an old friend to me
Ok, nothing ground breaking, rock n roll with a angry twist, lyrics poor, not as angry as English punk, probably unfair comparison, likeable enough
I used to listen to this when I was 15, unlike other albums I have listened to for that long Dark side, Master of puppets, Mama etc, lyrics like "Take no prisoners Take no Shit" have not aged well. This album is not something that will be looked at now and be thought of as anything but "Trump esq" rubbish maybe it was ahead of its time! 2* Music 0* Lyrics 5* Shame I ever listened to this when I was younger
I couldn't really get into this too far removed from what I like and too eclectic to get settled
Light weight for a list of 1001 albums
***** ***** ***** All day long.... First chords of whole lotta love are greater than some bands entire output. I mean this most sincerely, they are like Radiohead musical gods Anyone who can sing about Mordor and make it sound that good gets my vote
Gave it a go, how much did they pay the A&R man?
I tried but not for me
The true power of this app struck me with this album, I got the idea of it before I started, but the idea that here is something I would never have listened to without the app struck me. Great album skip first 8 minutes of last song though, it's true what everyone says about 1969!!!!!
I don't know anything about grime, as a white 53yr old never been my thing, but after listening to this and looking up the prison population stats and stop and search I get the anger. We live in a country that promote British values, and as a teacher I do this but these only really apply to white people. This is a well made album and dwarves 4 stars.
I was 11 when this came out, if they had not released come on Eileen, I think I might have given them a chance as I can't stand that song! The rest seen to good. Also I saw Kevin Rowlands at a reading festival singing to a backing track, the track kept breaking down much to the amusement of the crowd, Kevin bless him found this very annoying and threw a strop at the crowd, wrong move as we responded with plastic bottles, turning the whole thing into a farce, I am loving this app as it causes me to listen to new music and look back on happy memories. Thanks Kevin 🍼
Teenage memories again 😂 So far my teenage listening has turned out to be a mixed bag from the sublime Pink Floyd to the ridiculous Megadeath 😁 Somethings don't date Hot Buttered Soul, somethings become grown men singing about women in ways that are not appropriate. Funny how distance changes ones perspective on events, "oh Mr Tyler going down" and then Jamie's got a gun pops up! You could have done so much more Music ***** Vocals ***** Lyrics* Ps I was a big fan in the day and saw them live
Reading some of the reviews I think some people really miss the point of this exercise. It is not a list of all your favourite albums, it's there to challenge you and get you to try to listen to things that you would otherwise never have listened to. When you approach it this way, it truly makes sense, it's a percentage of what I have listened to I would never have tried and my life is better for it. Hot Buttered Soul was a revelation, plus some of the rap I wouldn't have listened to either. So please embrace the true spirit of the app😁 This album is "cool" love the laid back beats. On the issue of ownership of samples the artists are paid and also how many chord combinations are now original? You have to be at the front edge of creativity to come up with original music eg Radiohead etc which most people are not to create totally new music Great experience 5*
Screaming anger like Kurt on In Utero, does not have the melody like Nirvana which is what set them apart from most other punk/hardcore/grunge bands. Kurt could put a melody into any song however angry. This is more hit and miss and some of the songs are way too long. This will take multiple sittings 😔
This takes self love to a whole new level😁 too polished for me and slick. I can't get passed the 💩 lyrics too
As a polymath with PhDs in maths, physics...only kidding it was a very good album if that is your taste stylish and very well produced 😁
I was born in 1971, but like marmite and Bob Dylan you either get it or you don't. I get Dylan but not Joni 😞
Good instrumentation, interesting lyrics, not so keen on the voice.
When it comes to folk I much prefer American folk, it has more of an edge to it. British seems very dancing round the maypole or so I thought until listening to this, an emotional and stylish album, especially track five which is very shine on you crazy diamond it style, and predates it. This is a good addition to my listening experience. By Polymath.
Dripping in style and skilled musicianship but alas in my eyes very little substance
A lot the last album by chic style and some good music (some dull and repetitive) but very little substance. I know I know that was the point of this precursor to punk/stoner rock.
Great album so many memories 5*
What a coincidence yesterday I found Elton's Greatest Hits from 1974 on vinyl in a collection given to me by my parents. Never been a big fan but really starting to get Elton now, very late to Saturday night.
Very European in style, I did like it as not something I had listened to before except Kids. Not sure I will return to it but worth at least one listen. A well produced piece of Pop music
Today they would have to bill themselves as a Beatles/Beach Boys tribute act featuring a fucking pervert
A sound that is timeless, a great performance. Fun and spontaneous like a live album should be, another album I would never have listened to. Polymath
Every modern day music artist owes a massive debt to these guys for without them there would be nothing. Rock n roll started here and the rest as they say is history. This album is what a hungover cockerel would make after finding that his wife had took the dog and fucked off after he returns from a three day drunken blender 😭
I need to give this a few more listens to come to a conclusion 🤔
Not sure 😁
Beautifully done ❤️
Thought I would stop after first song but still going 20+ minutes in, good album first two songs messy but good after that.😁
We are so used to albums being the same picture in 10-12 slightly different posses, true greatness is to produce an album where none of the posses are related. From Beach Boys sitting on a beach with a cool beer to the Doors stoned in a dead end drug den via Kurt sat in his bedroom writing about the pain of teenage life Polymath Polymath
I had ever heard of Sufjan before but this is a good record, there was one song though which was straight off Disintegration The Cure, the rest was made for a really interesting listen. One to revisit, voice really 👍
Personal Thoughts Right now I think it's time England split from America, and rejoined the EU. Why would we be allies to a country who is friends with dictator Putin, has thrown the Ukraine under the bus, has taken away their own people's rights. Trump is a bully, a greedy rich white man who cares nothing for his people or any one else's. America you have made a grave mistake and unfortunately everyone has to pay for it. The album, I have never been a Stevie wonder fan and this has not changed. I get why people are but it just doesn't float my boat
A couple of good tracks cult and middle man, I think it's the lyrics they sound very angry 15 year old very obvious with little suitably Polymath
The Voice The Synths Polymath
I tried this but maybe it was my mood I don't know but I didn't make it through, no reflection on this as it is clearly a great record just not for me Polymath
My wife's favourite record when it came out, she has moved on to Radiohead now. This is the beauty of the site, I didn't listen to or like these at the time, but what a great record amazing musicians, thoughtful lyrics and style. This brings back so many memories of that period in the 90s when I went to festivals seeing Bowie, Young etc
The year my wife was born😄I found this was not the classic I thought it would from the comments and it's reputation. Some of the songs are great but others especially No women No cry are awful. How any producer could allow that track out lord only knows, reminds me of how Metallica screwed up and justice Polymath
My bus has turned into a space ship and major tom is at the controls as we fly away...........now a sexy disco has started we are dancing away in a most peculiar way.......goodbye everyone....... Polymath
I once saw Billy Bragg great live act, very passionate person. Like a British Bob Dylan but with a very strong Lancashire accent, like Dylan very marmite. Superb song writer.
My first vinyl record, will always have a place in my ❤️
Can I dig it? Well it's another one of those where I can appreciate how good it is but it's not for me. Polymath
I remember seeing these at a festival, amazing set and light show, consummate professional. Enjoying it except elektrobank and it doesn't matter very repetitive songs.
I won't give up on you..... Polymath
29 years late to the party 🥳 Straight through listen great record, beautiful vocals, one of the few times (outside of Radiohead) that a drum machine has brought anything to the 🎉 Polymath
No body made a live album without a debt to this album No guitarist ever picked up a guitar without a debt to this man This is rock n roll's DNA. Polymath Ps I love live albums ever since the Iron Maiden classic Live after Death, I still have the tape from when I was 14, with all the details worn off the plastic. I don't agree with comments about a studio version is my point.
No Polymath
Greatest live Albums 1 Live after Death IM 2 Live over Hammersmith IM 3 Exit Stage Left Rush 4 isle of white The Who
Great album. Great songs. Never as good as they thought they were. Original no, great yes. Three really good albums Definitely, What's the, and B side collection Master plan. My personal favourite Oasis Supersonic, drips with attitude. Saw them live Liam wanted a fight with a member of the audience!
Bastard's hung up....... Polymath
Another first time listen, only know Killing Moon, a good album, a very good lyricist with clear Jim Morrison influences and The Cure musically. A varied, well made and thoughtful album. Standout track: Ocean Rain Polymath
Great record, Candle in the wind had tears welling up at the bus stop. Such a great song writing combination Elton & Bernie Polymath
Another blueprint album that has echoed down the decades. Polymath
Odd Polymath
Interesting listen 👂 Polymath
A very soulful voice worthy of a 5:)
It's the voice and that hotel lounge music that is not for me. The music is like a weird mix of Pop and country, it's just so bland. Hold music. Lyrics *Checking on my sex appeal* what????? Polymath Ps The Television album contains one of the greatest lyrics "And the Cadillac left the graveyard"
I read the negative comments and thought shut up she is amazing, but then on listening I found myself agreeing. It's not her voice it's the quality of the songs, her voice deserves better. "Hello" is amazing but the rest are standard platter. Polymath
Amazon does not have all the songs in the UK any way, so listened to Best of which has a lot of the songs on. Message to any Americans post Liberation day (Fuck up day) I do feel for you having a demented idiot with no knowledge of global economics, good luck with the recession
Can we just stop making out that every 13-15yr old boy is a masogonist, because they are not. Shit album
Great social comment 👏
Not my bag
Oh lord that's good 💯
Bought on the day it came out

💩-1*
Such a beautiful voice and lyrics 💓
Reminds me of FSOL but stripped back
I like lots of the the music that Damon has produced especially blur, but I found this dull and his voice always too deep in the mix. I think it could have been very good if more care taken over the production
I realise having read some of the reviews how poorly informed(my fault) I am about the origins, motives and background of certain albums and artists I am. The motive behind Elvis was he was white and so the great songs that the black music community had written could now be sold to the white world. I feel the same happened much later with Eminem when the record industry thought we have a rapper here we can sell world wide
Good music
Nah
Excellent music
Very poor
Big catch up Donavon: Sunshine superman there are 3/4 tracks on here that are a blue print for the 70's ps nothing like Bob Dylan Solange hi great theme music that addresses the horrors of racism in America, a theme which this list has educated me on Fela Kuti & Ginger Baker:The Africa 70: Sat in a Jazz bar in the 70s, band playing, Gauloise in hand, whiskey in the other. What an album decades ahead Nico: Just to end any debate she can't sing or write. Save time you will never get back Rolling stones: Aftermath mixture of great tracks and drops, mothers helper former, stupid girl latter. Going home Change to Going insane by the end, the stones could not put a full album of quality tracks together which is what separates them from the Beatles
Not on Amazon
Love post punk now thanks to the list
Oh no please don't.............a day off today I did try and I can't stand it 😭
This is not Sargent Peppers, Dark side of the Moon, Straight out of Compton or Black Sabbath in that it changed nothing. It is a band playing rock n roll that is fun, entertaining and let's not forget it's a tribute to one of the greatest frontmen of all time, bare chested (look up AC/DC on top of the pops) Bon Scott. Fun is the key point here if your looking for more then don't listen. The Romones did the same when they released The Romones. There are many great songs which in the light of our more enlightened times (Trump excluded & his Cronies too) do not stand up to examination. Fav track: You shook me all night long This was the first AC track I heard and have been listening ever since, the intro to TNT and Livewire are the two greatest intros in rock music
Already a fan of Neil Young, though I didn't get him until I saw him live at a festival, same festival at witch I saw David Bowie. I was not looking forward to seeing him, but he was amazing. I was too keen on this album some tracks are way too country which along with RnB are my least favourite genre
Tame is the blueprint for "in uetro" . I have never listened to a pixies album, mind blown 🤯
Never considered sleeping with a man until Marvin seduced me on the 163 bus to work......
Really liked this one, I was unaware of all the controversy at the time it came out.......
Love this album for over 40yrs, recently got live over Hammersmith vinyl, I saw 7 times in my youth, best gig was at Hammersmith amazing
I expected from the reviews some serious adult synth then I got oh oh oh oh teeny pop synth music....second song better...it's the voice I can't on with and the super cheery sound so 80's pop, which I am no fan off, Tether is a good track less upbeat
This should be interesting.....very good just not my cup of sage
Fucking loving this album, truly forgotten just how good it is saw them twice on this tour awesome.Confession I was working at Butlins UK and a friend had a U2 ticket and I was desperate to go but didn't have one. She said she was feeling unwell (nothing serious) I then proceeded to paint a nightmare scenario where by she would all but die in a concert crowd! She then gave me the ticket but would not take any money for it ☺️ Favourite lyric: In my dream I was drowning my sorrows But my sorrows, they learned to swim* *Borrowed I know from Frida Kahlo
Odd
Great
Excellent 👌
Some good tracks
One of my all time favourite albums, love Rush. So many memories, such a superb live band, I got to see the greatest living drummer of my generation. Amazing creativity and a band for anyone who felt a little bit odd, different or geeky. They will always be in my heart. The lyrics and musicianship on show here are second to none. Ps to the wanker who wrote the oh so not witty story fuck off
....Sold the world 🌍 by Bowie Ok so Travis didn't change the world, but neither did The Eagles (Burrito Band), Elvis (White version of black music) Eminem (same as previous brackets) very few bands genuinely change things. Just sit back and enjoy
Good but not my bag
God album
A lot heavier and guitar based than I expected
Ok let's get rid of the ELEPHANT 🐘 in the room, Lars fucked up the production, even when given a chance with the remaster he fucked it up, but even he couldn't kill off what is a great collection of songs. One of my all time favourites, I saw them on this tour at Sheffield city hall, fucking awesome, at their prime. Stage set unbelievable, the first of 7 times that I saw them. 💀. 💀 💀 💀. 💀💀 💀. 💀. 💀. 💀 💀. 💀. 💀. 💀 💀. 💀💀. 💀 💀. 💀
Not very inspiring
Not really interested
Ok
Great
Not one of the greats but worth 3 stars for Fame
If you don't like it then... FUCK YOU YOU LIKE WHAT THEY TOLD YOU FUCK YOU YOU LIKE WHAT THEY TOLD YOU X10
Great for it's type
Another planet seems like the blueprint of so many great bands styles. I agree that this is the perfect 1001 album, something you are probably familiar with but contains music that has clearly influenced what came after, one of those bands that appears on musicians influence bands and I scratch my head thinking who the fuck are they!
Interesting
Ok
I try but just can't like even though he is so talented

Nah
Morrissey racist wanker This album amazing
Didn't get a word of it!
What an annoying prick
Wow people are so down this, I had never heard of the guy, but found it an interesting and chilled listen. Much better than the Malcolm McLaren let's steal black music and claim we made it popular. Similar to DJ Shadow
Interesting but lyrics were odd
Blackman had the blues Whiteman had country Guess who got the raw deal
Odd
Interesting
Great 😁Screw the haters
👍
Can't stand there cheese laiden, all American tripe, from our side of the pond American is a sad, prejudiced, rotten to the core dump. I genuinely feel for the poor souls who have to live their, with an **** (fill in as appropriate d,c,f,t) for a leader along with the rest of his playground gang. It's not like we are much better but we do elect intelligent individuals and we don't treat minorities like shit or allow guns. Right now time to give it an unbiased and fair listen to. How does anyone have the nerve to talk about these in the same breath as the Beatles. I know the Americans wanted their own Beatles but fuck me these lot! This sounds like a bunch of junkie musicians who put out the shit they recorded while high instead of binning it and recording some proper shit when straight It's a bit like us and Elton John we feel we have a duty to love everything he does, when some is great and some is shit. To sum up finely with Stevie Wonder I have tried to like him but I can't The Beach boys I have tried to like but can't Difference is Stevie Wonder is a musical God and The Beach Boys are shit A day in the life of a tree fucking hell guys sounds like a guy coming of a ten day bender! Were the lyrics taken from LOTR
Never into James Brown but what a great early fusion of what would be funk and soul
💩for the music 1* for the cover
Good, just shame it took white musicians to do it
Good
Overblown
This is one of those record covers I see in charity shops along with countless other Bach, Shadows, Leo Sayer and Top of the pops (Cover is a girl in a bikini on roller skates) this could just be a UK thing I have no idea! If it is please could someone like this to let me know.
This is a record of it's time that does not date well, I did buy it at the time. I saw her live at a festival and did enjoy the experience. The problems I find now are several: schreaching ( who ever is torturing stop you cruel bastards), lyrics some of the worst angry teen lyrics of all time and ones written to shock (but don't) like the sexual references clumsy. It's so contrived and lacks any sophistication. FUCK ME JUST READ THE REVIEWS YOU LOVE HER OPEN YOUR EARS. DATED MUSIC MEANS IT IS SHIT NAME ME ONE CLASSIC THAT SOUNDS DATED. DON'T EVEN MENTION THE IRONY THAT ISN'T
Geno play those horns for me 🎺🎺🎺
A taste of what was to come, never my bag at the time but now I am older I can appreciate how good he was
Not a fan
Ok, didn't set my world alight but not as bad as some people made out
Monsters inc. A very relaxing and chilled half hour. I really didn't think I would enjoy this, but happy to be proved wrong. Another victory for the list. I asked a friend what decade he would put the album cover "80's punk album"
Excellent
Music made by the band for the band. Very few bands do this (Radiohead) and it is when you get the most creative and greatest moments in music.
A refreshing discovery, some great tracks. Not sure why this band weren't huge?
A really simple but very thoughtful album, so different from how most music is made today, with layer upon layer of complex music and lyrics. You can clearly see what an influence on so many artists this guy had.
Awesome live saw them last year.
Reminds of a band I love from the nineties Beta Band, that laid back eclectic style, the music gives the impression that these would be a really nice set of guys to have a beer or a fat one with 😄😄
Bob "Marmite"(or Vegemite for you Aussies)Dylan Didn't realise how decisive Dylan was, I get it though, I love his music, there are many musicians who would dream of writing just one song lyric as amazing as Dylan writes every time he puts pen to paper. This album is just like a best of as there is one classic after another, most bands must spend there nights with dreams of this album being theirs
Blonde on Blonde encore still not run out of classics! Bob is the greatest lyricist of all time. ❤️You Bob. End of encore Final Bob encore (you did scream for more) I was one of the many who couldn't get past his voice for years, but once I did it opened up amazing songs whose lyrics blow you away, be patient it's worth it Elvis Costello, never tried him before but what a great record this is, can't help thinking he is some what underrated? I could be wrong don't know enough about him. Another reason this list is so great😁
Interesting 🧐
Very strange indeed, I have tried numerous times with the Byrds and I just can't hit it off with them, hence my lonely life in the dark abyss and my constant membership of several dating sites
Some good Some 💩
Side note As the awesome Throbbing Gristle keep being mentioned throughout various reviews, I tried it believing nothing could approach the levels of depravity mentioned wow was I wrong! Little Simz not for me, everything I don't like about rap
FUCK I AM IN A LIFT, ONE MINUTE ON THE 163 WITH LITTLE SIMZ THE PUT THIS ON AND TRANSPORTED TO A LIFT IN M&S AÀAAHHHHH little Simz come back please Ps: Little Simz: music great, ability to rap great, what I can't deal with is how the lyrics are so direct and always about how great I am,u always suggests to me a lack of maturity. Maybe as a 53yr old British white guy I will never get it as not target audience. On with Abdullah
Awesomeness returns after Jazz lift hell😁 Lalalalala lalalalala I am holding on tomorrow as a twentieth century boy! 1971
I am on my knees worshipping at the alter........ God Album "Drive" this song is for everyone who has ever had a dark thought about themselves. Rem were one of those bands who could churn out songs that other bands could only dream over on a regular basis. Songs like this separate the poor from the good from the great Try not to breathe- Tears on the bus You know an album is great when it sounds like a best of Marriage of the bands Rem+Rush
Not an ABBA fan but this has in places really touches what it felt like in the eighties at the height of cold & nuclear war paranoia, I remember growing up thinking it was when not if WW3 would start and end the world
Two words I never want to see together Jazz & Samba, another case of why I love this list, eat my words first track awesome, as soon as it started England got their 9th wicket against India in the third test 4th innings
Seen the film Heard the hits Not bought the t-shirt Now for the album... It would have made a great album if all the bits cut out
Uummmm
I have found out while doing this list that Neil Young very much divides the audience, there are no uummm take him or leave him. It's love or hate. Odd how Mr Soul finishes half way through, fuck me how does the second song belong on the same album........i see why Neil went solo...
Last night I tried to save money on line £19 and ended up wasting £45🤬I then fucked off everyone in the house and ended up in the spare room🤬 my wifes parting words "Don't rush home" so when this came on I was 😄 first good thing in 8hrs Not worthy Not worthy This was an album where the band could have stopped at perfection. Say what you like about Bono but to let that get in the way of judging this album is churlish. Every track is beautiful. Such memorable lines, my favourite being... "Outside it's America, outside it's America" I was late to the U2 party mainly because when they were hip I rejected it. I love the ambiguous nature of the lyrics leaving you to do the work Favourite track: Exit
Favourite i
Do not like at all
More than just the hits, I do find the lyrics a bit repetitive in places
