Sounds like a folk album
I'm not a fan of folk-rock, this hasn't changed my mind
The name rings a bit of a bell but i've definitely never heard before. I don't mind some folk but this isn't really for me.
I kept imagining Celtic hippies, like a mix of Jefferson Aeroplane and Clannad. Interesting, but not currently interested.

I felt like I was unwillingly transported to middle England to hear some depressing tales. They say the weed wasn't strong in the 60s, but this proves otherwise.
Without sounding too dismissive this album sounds incredibly beardy. Folk music obviously has its place and this is a way of updating songs written in the 1600's but listening to it in 2021 you can almost hear the scratchy jumpers and people drinking cider that was in some guy's shed using a bin.
I like the vocal - a real Allison Krause-y thing going on. I was also sucked in by some of the cool bass lines in a few of these songs. Overall, really great musicianship. They did the Irish folk, story-telling thing about as well as you can do it. It's just not really for me. I had a lot of trouble getting into it.
Dare I say it's too folky? I had never heard of them and did enjoy parts, but I'm not buying this as a must-hear album.
This feels like somewhat similar to Irish music with British lyrics. I can't get behind this tomfoolery
This is for someone, but not for me.
Not completely un-likeable, but definitely not my thing. I like a lot of folk and this has some good grooves and chilled bits, but it's a bit TOO folk. It sounds like Maypoles and dancing in circles on LSD.

Given the release year (1969), I can hear how this album influenced others that followed. It's good music, sung and played well, and a good representation of the style. Not one I'll listen to again. Nothing against it; it's a style I've heard done so many times in so many ways that due to the passage of time it's too hard for this album to stand out for me.

That being said, these songs wear out their welcome pretty quickly seeing as they use the same vocal inflections and melodies over and over. It's fine. The songs I like are at an average of high 3 stars, but the rest are easy skips so I'll give this a high two.

Nice enough but not really my vibe
Not my cup of tea. Wasn't really a fan but I can see why people would be interested in something like this. Interesting sounds and music but not what I enjoy listening too.
Perfectly fine light background music for when I’m writing a script with a fantasy element. It’s a pretty narrow window of opportunity, but Fairport Convention crawled right in and kept it propped open with a lute.
Fand ich grundlegend ok. Ich finds erstaunlich, dass das Album hier ist, weil ich es nicht ansatzweise besonders fand. Wahrscheinlich hat es in seiner Zeit irgendwas bewegt oder so, ähnlich wie Lou Reeds Album eine Art Impact auf die Musikszene gehabt. So fand ichs ok, aber langweilig.
This is a kind of hippies-taking-themselves-to-seriously brand of music that doesn't appeal to me. I was reading about them and their nickname was "The British Jefferson Airplane" - that kind of sums it up for me.

I like the Celtic influences, but man does this entire thing feel very bland and one-note. Zoned out kind of hard, despite trying to keep with it. Favorite tracks: "Come All Ye", "Matty Groves"

I didn’t really enjoy Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention when I reviewed it earlier in this challenge. I usually give 60s British folk a wide berth, but I was interested to see what Liege & Lief would be like today. Unfortunately, this one isn’t really for me either. It’s very whimsical and often feels like the soundtrack to Robin Hood. The singer has a lovely voice and there is some great musicianship throughout, but it’s not an album I can truly get into. Favourite tracks: I quite enjoyed the instrumental medley The Lark in the Morning. It was lively and played at a great pace. I actually listened to it two or three times today. Least favourite tracks: Many of the songs blend into what feels like folk nothingness to me. Overall, I struggled to enjoy this album. Album artwork: When I think of Fairport Convention, this is the cover that comes to mind. It’s probably their most recognisable image.

pretty much this album really pissed me off. It’s the reason that I have to take a three month hiatus from 1001 albums. I’ve decided to come back and this album is the demon that I have to face. I’m sure there is something cool in it somewhere … but I don’t like it. I think it’s bad. I think it’s boring. I feel like I’m at the tavern (derogatory). maybe one day I will be able to appreciate fairport convention the same way the UK did in the late 60s when it was number 17 for 15 weeks straight. I literally can’t even make it through it. I think I might not give it a one because there is one song that I thought was kind of cool and I’m being a little bitch about it but mostly hate this album. ok no i decided im giving it a 1
I enjoyed the first track and this raised my expectations. The rest truly annoyed me. In fact, it put me in a bad mood for hours after.
I couldn’t wait for this to end. It’s rambling pagan babble with little notable melody.

I tried. I seriously did. I got each song started and couldn’t hang on to a single one. If I closed my eyes and listened I would swear this was the prequel to Sheryl Crow. I’ve definitely heard worse, but this is gonna be a no for me, dawg.
I learned it pays to read the wiki, the original album is only 8 songs, the rest of the songs on spotify were bonus tracks on the cd reissue. Why does this matter.....I couldn't do it anymore... I needed to stop but didn't want to quit. It was like the 25th mile of a marathon, and I was out of gas. What a relief to learn I was actually 3 songs past the finish line and could turn it off. Phew! Cheesy Renaissance Fair music. Not for me.
I saw the reviews comparing this to Ren Faire music and thought, "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher? Let's go!" To my dismay, this was *not* Ren Faire music as I understood it. I would describe it more like Celtic Honkytonk or perhaps the first of the bardcore. Note that I didn't say best because I think others have improved on this format since. There's usually no chorus, just one lilting vocal melody plus an instrumental interlude, repeated ad nauseum. They make 4-minute songs feel like 12 minutes because there's no hook, nothing familiar to latch on or look forward to. It feels much more akin to poetry with musical breaks than it is music as we know it today. Maybe fine to listen to in a tavern when you're weary from long travels on the the muddy road, but these days more evolved options exist. I'm keeping an open mind, but if this is what all British Folk music is, then it is absolutely, unequivocally not for me.

This is the kind of music that tempts me to skip an album. But I didn’t! Listened to the whole Ren faire type thing. I’m happy for the people that like this. I will never understand how this strike got SO popular in the late 1960s. Drugs make you want to go back in time?
Boring, uninspired. The vocalist's voice reminds me of Beto Guedes, which I like a lot, but it's not captivating.

Not as exciting as Pentangle. The few songs I have tried to listen were repetitive, without the jazzy touch I actually liked in Pentagle. Totally forgettable but not that bad comparing to Dylan.
Hated this - felt like I was at a wedding feast in Sherwood Forest.

Yeah this is folk. Not the first time either. So I don't think excluding genres from this actually worked. This is really not for me.
A British folk-rock album only a Brit could like. I'm a fan of Dungeon Synth stuff, which feels vaguely relevant here, but maybe I like dungeon synth because nobody sings in dungeon synth and that's the root of my dissatisfaction with this weird-in-a-bad-way album.
I was expecting more folk, but got a bit more rock, which was a bit of a surprise, but this just isn't my thing. The album feels ambitious and well performed and produced. Just not something I will be returning to.

Folk, you can clearly hear that it has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with Bob Dylan. I almost only listen to the fiddle and that is almost an exclusion criterion for me. I was never a big folk fan, with a few exceptions, but that is not my music, absolutely not.

Why are these folk rocks so unappealing? It's boring and that's all I have to say. The sounds are so cliche, the lyrics are so pale, and the harmonies are also just so uninteresting. 2 is the best I can give. The embodiment of BORDOM. How can anyone stand this?

This one made it to my 1001 mediocre albums picked out of a 2nd hand store. To classify this as any sort of “Rock” is blasphemy.

This is really not my style of music. We will see how it goes and if I can find any hidden gems I would have never heard because of the genre. I thought it was country but it's listed as folk. Later on in the record it feels like world/chanting at times. Quite far out of my comfort zone.

I’ve heard Folk music all my life and I really enjoy it but this album was a struggle to get through. Obviously 60s British Folk Rock is different from what we have here in the Appalachians, but still, not much held my interest. Bright spots were Farewell, Farewell and Tam Lin for me, everything else was forgettable.

I understand all the misgivings about the content and the lyrics. However, unlike some of the rap that has been shortlisted, at least this album deserves to be on the list. It’s bond a generation I am going to give it a higher star rating because at least it is a seminal album.

Folk rock garbage. Reminded me of that family guy episode where Peter and Lois get super high and make folk music and in their high minds it sounds awesome but to everyone else it’s terrible.
