The title track is worth the price of admission. Add "Deacon Blues" and "Peg" to the mix? Amazing. Fantastic album. The players are just fantastic. The drumming on the title track has been so talked about that any comment feels redundant. It's just beautiful.

This is a classic from my childhood. Growing up, by older sister had the vinyl LP. Everything about it, from the music, the cover art, and the videos on MTV, fascinated me. Joe Elliot was the king of cool in my book. I used to love the part of the "Rock of Ages" video when he had the broadsword and it turned into a guitar. Too friggin cool. It was a fantastic balance of heavy/hard rock and melodic pop. I still love it.
I LOATHE this The only thing that will justify one star is that the longest song is only 1:35 and the entire album is around 15 mins long.
Yes, this is John Lennon (I think by law I'm supposed to genuflect or something). Yes, he's such an icon.... and while there are a few decent songs on here, this is one of the most overrated albums of its time. Some of it is unlistenable. I'm glad primal scream was "working" for him back then (was it? I mean, he was a bit of a mess)... but subjecting listeners to his histrionic caterwauling is a bit much. The end of "Mother" is like listening to a tone-deaf cat being mutilated.
People revere this album. I have no idea why. Someone influential must have once said it's essential and now it's a "the emperor's not wearing any clothes" scenario. I mean, this is utter sh!t. Tuneless noise, pointless rage.... just... no.

"Prowler" Heavy. Guitars with interesting double-lead harmonies. Definitely sounds dated, but you hear the nucleus of a sound that defined the new wave of British Metal. Can see how they influenced early Def Leppard. The Drums are killer. Double-kick. Can hear the Geezer Butler inspired bass-lines clearly. "Remember Tomorrow" is good. Interesting changes in tempo and mood. "Running Free" Groovy. Production is sparse, but the drums are driving. Got those strong Thin Lizzy-eque guitars. The lyrics aren't much to write home about. He's runnin' free yeah. He's runnin free. "Phantom of the Opera" Cool how the verse melody matches the guitar riff. Interesting rhythmically and melodically. Ooh, I like this change that starts with "Keep your distance..." The changes make it almost proggy. [Overall ,the production is tinny and thin. Could do with more mid to low end] "Transylvania" Interesting instrumental with the trademark harmony leads on guitars. "Strange World" I like the arpeggios in the intro. The lead guitar over the top is fluid and strong. Like it. Definitely hear a Genesis "Musical Box" influence on this. Has some similarity in feel to a lot of Nursery Cryme. "Charlotte the Harlotte" This is a manly rock song. Almost self-parody. Spinal Tap. "Iron Maiden" An eponymous song. Like "Black Sabbath".
My favorite of the "Berlin Trilogy" albums. -- At least I think. I need to relisten to Lodger The instrumental tracks are sublime. Especially Warszawa.
This will be interesting b/c rap isn't really my thing. Great listen. Love the flow.
An old favorite!
I enjoyed this. Nice, upbeat, background music.
Funny, I've never even heard of this. Really enjoying it. Jamiroquai totally ripped this off! Production is so crisp and bright. It doesn't sound like something that is 46 years old.
One of my all-time favorites!
Off the bat, sounds like Springsteen. Meh...
I'm actually not even really interested in listening to this one... but I will.
Okay... but I like The Smiths better
Classic.
I've never heard of this. Should be interesting.
Generic Kinda boring for me
Another favorite! Amazing production. Sounds as fresh and new as it did when it came out.
This sucks
Not my style... but listening nonetheless Suffering through this Don't like Not my style "I can't stand it" is nearly unlistenable. The female harmony is f*cking awful.
I LOATHE this The only thing that will justify one star is that the longest song is only 1:35 and the entire album is around 15 mins long.
Really good album beginning to end
Classic!
I had to stop. This was fucking terrible
Not really my thang
Like it. Sandy Denny's voice is beautiful
I didn't realize how much they sound like Bauhaus and earlier goth
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would
Meh
I like this.
The caterwauling in "Child in Time" is laughably horrendous. "...Some stupid with a flare gun..." might just be one of the worst lyrics in rock history.
Pretty good. A little rough around the edges. Can definitely see how they influenced U2
I don't understand a word of it, but it sounds nice.
Great opening track: "Strange Brew"
My favorite track was "Gimme Danger" -- The rest was a little too raw and powerful for my tastes.
Classic
It was alright. "American Pie" is actually not the best song on the album.
Not really my thing.
The best thing about this album is its 36 minute run-time. I like The Who, just don't love this album. There are slight hints if what they will become ("My Generation"), but a lot of bland pseudo-R&B.
Every song sounds the same. Every song is awful.
The Dude said, "I hate the f*ckin Eagles, man!" But this album is alright. I always wondered why the Dude hates the Eagles. I mean, they seem laid back like him. Maybe he had a bad experience. Or maybe they're too corporate. Maybe they're "a buncha a$$holes" like Metallica (he did roadie for them). Whatever the case, the guitar solo on the title track is worth the price of admission even though they stole the chord progression from Jethro Tull. (Maybe the Dude is a Tull fan...)
I'd never listened to this whole album before. When I was younger, Corgan's voice got on my nerves so I never gave Smashing Pumpkins a fair chance. I have to say, I'm glad I gave this a listen. The music is dynamic and interesting. I will definitely listen again. It runs a little long... but none of the songs feel like "filler."
Great album by a great band. "Synchronicity II" and "King of Pain" are high points, but the entire album is a classic. This and Ghost in the Machine are my favorite albums by them.
I just didn't like this. Not my thing.

Good album... Production/sound quality is lacking.
I refuse. There as absolutely ZERO reasons to listen to this album before you die. Listen to something good instead. Listen to Tool. Literally ANY album by Tool. It's a travesty that they're not on this list but this trash and KID EFFING ROCK are.
Boring
Loathe. Horrible. Overrated. Trash bag. Train wreck. Zero talent.
I really tried. The music isn't so bad. The lead singer is terrible. Like, I was thinking that this had to be a joke.
I wouldn't listen to this if you paid me. Courtney Love is trash. (And a murderer).
This was.... interesting. Not something I would listen to on my own, but the instrumentation and manipulation of sound is intriguing. Not necessarily my cup of superdupercaffeinated tea... but ... interesting. I definitely didn't hate it.
I really want to rate this higher because of how important it is to the genre... but most of it is dated and cheesy. The title track is worth a full-star bump on its own, but the rest is meh....
I have no idea why this is on this list. Zero. If I could give less than one star, I would.

I would give this 3 stars (good), but I'm giving it an extra star because I have such deep respect for the musicians involved. David Sylvian would go on to make some of the most transcendent music as a solo artist. Richard Barbieri will later be a part of Porcupine Tree.
Such an amazing album. Dylan was already brilliant, but this just took his sound and lyrics to another level. "It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" sounds as prophetic today as it must have in 1965... it is timeless in its sagacity.
Great, eminently listenable album. Lindsey Buckingham is quite the talent as a player, singer, and songwriter.
Can this get zero stars?
Kiss was my first concert. Mind you it was the makeup-less era (1990, Hot in the Shade Tour), but it was a religious experience for me nonetheless. There was a giant talking friggin' sphynx. I mean, come on... during "God of Thunder" the damn sphynx spoke ("I am the lord of the wasteland...")! Kiss was my childhood. Looking back today, with my oh so much more sophisticated tastes, I laugh at the juvenility of most of their stuff, but damn was it fun when I was 13. This album is probably the best studio offering from their heyday. They wouldn't sound this good on record until Creatures of the Night in 1982. But on Destroyer, Bob Ezrin has them sounding like actual musicians and not just a bunch of meatheads in mime makeup from NYC trying to gimmick their way to a buck. Lightning, meet bottle.
Just a phenomenal album by a highly underrated band. The tastefully understated guitar on "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is sublime. "Broken" into "Head Over Heels" adds even more depth than the stand-alone track that got radio play and is featured on many best-ofs. One of my favs.
The title track warrants an additional star on its own. Unfortunately, like so many McCartney projects, the album is uneven. Gems interspersed with pap...
Why does anyone need to hear this before he or she dies?
Metallica always had the potential to be a seriously good act, but they couldn't evolve past their caveman machismo. While some songs are strong (Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven), there's too much grunting, and growling... it's a musical version of Tim Allen's Tool Time from Home Improvement. This is taken to the ultimate point of self-caricature in the "ballad" "Nothing Else Matters." The video featured them playing this tender ballad through snarls and sneers. Lars Ulrich beat the drums like they killed his dog while Hetfield sang, "So close, no matter how far, couldn't be much more from the heart..." Very Spinal Tap-esque :D
Amazing album -- great production, songwriting, and orchestration...
I've always felt that Eric Clapton is overrated. I genuinely like Cream... perhaps because of the talent of the other two-thirds of that group. Derek & The Dominos doesn't have the same effect. If anything, Clapton brings the rest of the group down. Duane Allman was fantastic, but I find his slide-playing on "Layla" shabby and overbearing. Then there's the story of how Clapton screwed Gordon out of a writing credit despite his beautiful piano outro... just a horrorshow of a human being.
Not my favorite Springsteen album. It's a bit all-over-the-place, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. There are some solid tracks ("I'm on Fire" perhaps my favorite), but there's something about it that doesn't hold my attention as tightly as Born to Run, Nebraska, or even Tunnel of Love (which I consider one of his best and far superior to BITUSA).
I would give this 4 stars, but I'm deducting it a star for the horrible mix that all but erases Jason Newstead's bass parts because Lars Ulrich is a total bell-end.
Easily one of my favorite prog rock albums of all time... maybe one of my favorite albums in general. I love Peter Gabriel... his voice, his musicality, his inventiveness, his emotional depth. I love the impenetrability of this album's story; I never fully get it, but I realize that that's how I get it. An absolute masterpiece.
