While I do not object to funk (not in the least), I will raise a complaint at this album's tracks overstaying their welcome, length wise. At the same time, the album can pass for good background music. I'd say it's a force for good. Favourite track: Maggot Brain, because I'm a sucker for lengthy guitar solos (and I know I'm self contradicting here).
Great mix here of rock with the funk. As the one song says "who says a funk band can't play rock?" It's obvious where bands like Fishbone & RHCP get their chops from. The guitar solo on Maggot Brain is aMAZing. All hail Funkadelic! Reviews do talk about their owing a lot to progressive rock. I don't know if I see that as much. I see them owing more to jam bands than anything else, longer rock solos and instrumentals are not necessarily only linked to progressive rock. I mean, live versions of "Dazed and Confused" go on (and on and on...) for a half and hour. Even with that, it was really good. I had it on on a long car ride, but I did not get a chance to really *listen* so I listened to it again and really appreciated what was going on there. Definitely one I will come back to. Maybe a 4.3 or 4.4, one that is going on the list to purchase.
Really solid. So much funk, great blend of guitar and other instruments. I really gotta go out and listen to more of George Clinton's work. If anything, the tracks didn't all need to be so long because they didn't vary that much as the songs went along. Still, the title track is a beauty. Groovallegiance has a cool reggae sound and these guys are absolutely right on Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock (they just kill it). The 4th track is annoying with the echo singing and scat motif so it's hard to enjoy the really good guitar work. Into You and Cholly bring it back though not quite as good as side one. I'm not sure I really count the bonus tracks but Maggot Brain has quickly become one of my favorite guitar solo songs of all time. The recorded version on the album of the same name is amazing (so much emotion in Edward Hazel's guitar). And then the guitar work in Lunchmeataphobia is soooo heavy - love it. Waffled between a 4 and 5 (song length and hard to listen to track 4 vs. giving serious weight to the awesome bonus tracks).
Good album but the track Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad (The Doo Doo Chasers) is very irritating and brings the rating down

Genre: P-Funk 3/5 One of the most highly regarded P-Funk albums ever released, Funkadelic's tenth studio effort, One Nation Under a Groove, is an hour-long funk rock experience that very effectively highlights the talents of the players, but overall isn't as entertaining and as lively as I was expecting. The album ranges from straight funk to more psychedelic/prog arenas, but in both ventures they seem to be missing a certain element, at least for me. I was expecting a lot more uptempo tracks mixed in with the more groove-oriented, laidback tracks, but it was mostly pretty laidback song-to-song. The title and intro is a great little song, with a very catchy chorus and vocal line, but the tracklist continues afterwards at a pretty tepid pace. Groovallegiance and Who Says a Funk Band... are both decent-sounding, well-played tracks, but need a little bit of a kick in the ass. P.E. Squad is one of the goofiest tracks I've listened to so far in this book, and sounds like a Zappa B-side that he threw away because it was a little too goofy, even for him. The live EP is a decent bonus, but even those live cuts are missing something. These guys can play, and it's a good time that I'm sure is quite enjoyable to some, but this almost had the feel of a pop reggae record. It had a certain background music quality to it that left me wanting a lot more, unfortunately. But not bad.

Effortlessly funky and cool. There are just so many influences going on here and in turn it influenced those after it. A great sound.

Started really strong but I thought it was quite spotty after that. This is the kind of album where I'll choose 2 or 3 songs to put in playlists and be happy with just that.
It was definitely too long, but some songs were enjoyable. Maggot Brain is waaaaaay better, give me this one.
It's ok in a best of or a playlist but the whole album is a bit long..
It's a good and nice album, very nice vibes in it. However, it misses something special... Maybe a lack of catchy melodies? I don't know. But I appreciated it.

track 4 has the weirdest song title in all of music history. The rest of the album is more enjoyable than the other one I listened to- Maggot Brain- mainly because the fusion between funk and rock is much more enjoyable here
Much less insane than Maggot Brain. The long jams remain, but aren't as excessive or weird. Strangely, I sort of miss the cuckoo clocks and assorted animal noises. Really loved this album, and need to dive more into Funkadelic and their later collaborations.
Opening track gets all the stars! Precipitous decline after that :( Cholly and Maggot Brain were not bad. I was expecting the whole album to be like track 1. Disappointing.
Enjoyable listen, but not much stuck out other than the title track. Need to listen to much more Funkadelic and Parliament though. That's clear.

This is not a reviews, but Id like to read about the album @ wikipedia One Nation Under a Groove is the tenth studio album by American funk rock band Funkadelic, released on September 22, 1978 on Warner Bros. Records. Recording sessions took place at United Sound Studio in Detroit, Michigan, with one song recorded live on April 15, 1978 at the Monroe Civic Center in Monroe, Louisiana. The album was the first album to include keyboardist and frequent songwriter Walter "Junie" Morrison. One Nation Under a Groove was Funkadelic's most commercially successful album, reaching number 1 on the Billboard Magazine Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, number 16 on the Billboard 200, and being certified platinum in the US. It reached number 58 in Canada. It was one of the band's most critically lauded albums, and ranks at or near the top of many "best album" lists in disparate genres. The album was later featured on Vibe magazine's 100 Essential Albums of the 20th Century list. The title track is a classic, I like the way it seems to start in the middle of the song. The rest of the album, I dunno. There are a few more slow jams than I was expecting. I’m not exactly bolting to the dance floor when I hear it. I like their sense of humour, but the 11-minute song about shit is longer than it needs to be.
The legendary guitars on Maggot brain is the highlight here

Dang, I've been looking forward to some P-Funk of any kind, and we get a signature album that for some reason isn't on Apple Music or Spotify. It's solid though, very enjoyable grooves from start to finish. I'm still patiently waiting for the day we get Maggot Brain, that's the kind of Funkadelic I need in my life. But this one's really good too! Favorite Tracks: One Nation Under a Groove, Promental whatever, Lunchmeataphobia. Album art: I've seen this many times, I love the art style and colors. Trying to find this album on Apple Music, I saw a ton of amazing album covers like this one, Funkadelic seems to have done that right. 3.5/5
Pretty great live/studio funk record that I had to go to YouTube to hear. It’s a shame, as this album has an entire collection of funky sounds, grooves and riffs to last the entire hour run-time. Great instrumentation, as to be expected from Funkadelic. Standout is the penultimate track, with its extended guitar solo, and mournful sound that perfectly encapsulates the negative feelings described throughout in the lyrics.

George Clinton and his band of funk masters are...weird. Undeniably so. They embrace the psychedelic while maintaining the black excellence of the funk genre. This culminates in a lot of songs that are certainly funky but also strange, not dissimilar to Frank Zappa's work. This leads to a varying level of quality where the bizarre approach holds back the better aspects of the music, but other times instills a memorable quality while the music is still able to speak for itself. Obvious highlight is Maggot Brain, which carries the whole album imo. This was their breakthrough album but I much prefer some of the earlier stuff. Not bad though.
This was really hard to find and that burned up a lot of my patience. By the time I listened to this I was already grumpy ... There's a lot going on here with the jamming and zoning out. Though I did recognize some of these tracks from 90's De La samples this was not for me.
It took some searching, with "One Nation Under a Groove" unavailable on Amazon Music, to get into the groove. But YouTube saved the day, and my frustration was washed away by the funk. My toes were tapping, my day was brightened. Funk is not necessarily my thing, but I won't say no to this. Well, maybe I would say no to the "musical bowel movement" of "Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad (The Doo Doo Chasers)" - those are some absolutely hilarious lyrics to read, but it's a bit agonizing to listen to. Though I do appreciate that it helped to rid me of moral diarrhea, social bullshit, crazy doo doo, and mental poots.
Ding. Ding. Ding! We have another member of the JBZ*!!! I can’t get into the neutron bomb either, but I am really into the deep voice singing Into You. This album gets me moving and grooving, but there are too many parts that drone on. *That’s the Jeff Buckley zone for the uninitiated.

I know I'm supposed to view this group through a funk lens, but there is so much rock and jam in this album, I don't think it's right to limit my view. That idea is perfect captured both lyrically and musically in the track 'Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?!" Building from that idea, I think that spirit is a major part of why this album leaves such an indelible impression. Each track forces you to open your mind further and further, both on what you think the band is, and on various serious and nonsensical topics. But none of it comes across as heavy handed. They just want to help bring one nation together under a groove! Highlight tracks for me would be 'One Nation Under a Groove', 'Cholly', and especially 'Maggot Brain / Chant'.
I did love the title track of this album. The next two songs were okay if just a little long and tedious. And then there was an eleven-minute song about bowel movements and fried ice cream that just lost me. And the rest just kind of went on from there. Like many albums I've experienced here, I like the sound of short samples when I listen again, but it was the hour-long experience that was more negative.
I will be happy to jump on the funkalicious Funkadelic bus just for the funk of it anytime!!! YES!
Enjoyed a lot of this, got a little tired of it in places. But it does contain one of my favorite lyrics of all time, “The fear of being eaten by a sandwich.”
Bummer that this isn’t available on Apple Music because I really love this album! I listened to it on YouTube though and it is as funky as one would hope. I love the title track (and have for decades), but there were a lot of other great songs on here. I love getting my day funked up like this!

Pretty good, though I did not like it as much as Maggot Brain. The presence of a live version of Maggot Brain as a bonus track on this album made this even more evident.

"One Nation Under A Groove" is tirelessly energetic, relentlessly funky and has to be one of the best parties of the 1970s. It radiates positivity, optimism and fun for most of its running time, at the hands of George Clinton and the vast roster of incredible musicians. The album was released originally as a 40 minute set before a bonus EP was added with a great live edition of "Maggot Brain": I've focused just on the original LP here. For its entire seven and a half minutes, the title track never lets up. From its bouncy bassline to the various vocal hooks rippling through it, it's infinitely danceable and impossible to resist. Next, the sprightly "Groovallegiance" brings some levity (Bernie Worrell knocking it out of the park with an uncomplicated keyboard solo, and Clinton with some beautiful falsetto in the verses). "Who Says A Funk Band Can't Play Rock" is another prime cut: a Hendrix-esque riff transforming into a celebration of musical inclusivity and genre diversity. The band pull off the amazing feat of stuffing the arrangements to the rafters with overlapping lead parts, flourishes and production tricks, but leave room for spontaneity in the energetic performances. As an ensemble, they lock together perfectly and keep the songs feeling fresh throughout, despite the length of many of them. There's also a great sense of humour and playfulness running throughout the whole record, but the scales only tip slightly too far with "Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis", the only place the record loses some credibility for me. This jam is long and unfocused by comparison, in an awkward jumble of spoken word prayer with the makings of a lovely soul ballad in the background. I'm too prudish to enjoy hearing about a musical bowel movement to clear my mental diarrhoea. Whether they thought of it as a novel metaphor, a parody of evangelism or just a joke, it just brings down the impact for me. Despite this, though, as a whole it's a sheer delight. The power of Funkadelic is such that they're enough to make you believe fried ice cream really could be a reality.

Can hear the influence on early Red Hot Chilli Peppers and a ton of Prince . More funky than Psychedelic , but definitely unique . Funkadelic stand in a league of their own stylistically ; moreover , the musicianship is next to none . Some solid bass playing and jam out sessions by all.

This is not my favorite Funkadelic album, but that being said, this album is still pretty great. It opens strong and features call backs to earlier songs and lyrically expands the George Clinton universe a bit more. This album is joyous and lighter than Maggot Brain yet still has some absolutely phenomenal bass lines and arrangements.
Bullshit. Impossible to find. Obscure albums with slim availability shouldn’t be on the list. If I could, I would give 0/10 since I can't even listen to it...

Totally influential and you can hear so many later artists inspiration in here but for me personally it gets too long, both per song and the total length. Maybe I have a short attention span but the extended jammy-ness doesn't do anything for me

Fuuuuunky as hell
I got to see Parliament Funkadelic in the early 2000s. Was epic, but I don't think I fully understood the history of the group. This Funkadelic album did a lot for music a the funk scene. They made it fun, while also addressing some issues. A great live version of Maggot Brain, which (to me) is the best song they've produced. It's just so dense. Rarely do I sit down and really listen to a Funkadelic album front to back and I wasn't sure if I'd really enjoy the whole ride. I did. I did enjoy the ride.

Groovy baby
Much less funky than their previous efforts (though the funk is still present) this album is more focused on bringing a more rock sound to the funkiest people on the planet. An enjoyable funk album with some of the better elements of disco music. I like that the overall vibe is lightweight and even a bit humourous, with an emphasis on FUN (perhaps even tongue in cheek). I loved things like the doowop backing vocals on Groove allegiance and the song titles themselves. Overall I felt like I was listening to an album length version of Sly & Family Stone 'Dance to the Music', which is a good thing!
Such awesome sounds, one nation under a groove man. Incredible guitarmanship, rythems and bass lines make this musically tight. But it's the craziness the songs they go in place you don't expect all while a kind of dogmatic lyrics of absurdness play out. You cannot underestimate one bands devotion to one word and one concept Funk and this is it.

Aside from the overused funk/groove wordplay, and being about 20 mins too long - I enjoyed the album.

They had me at "Musical Bowel Movement". I'm going to need George Clinton to resolve all of the license issues he has with our go-to streaming services, because this thing slaps and slaps hard. As of this writing, the only way you can listen to this album in its entirety is on YouTube, which, is fine I guess. I seriously considered buying a physical copy of the album on vinyl or CD. Maybe that's what George Clinton wants from all of us. If that's the case, we shouldn't argue with the Godfather of Funk.

Excellent - other than the title track i'd never given Funkadelic much attention. Some fantastic guitar action going on both lead and bass! Will be revisiting for sure and it may even get added to the vinyl wants list!

The cool thing about this 1001 album generator is that it challenges me to listen to music I would otherwise avoid. Funk's not really my thing, so I haven't been exposed to much funk, but I heard that Funkadelic is a great place to start. I'm glad I listened, it was a head-bobbing, FUNky listen alright and this will lead me to sample more from Funkadelic. Really...Thanks generator!

Outstandingly funky, but of course it would be. Entertaining, eclectic and electrifying.
Well, you know. Worthy. Indulgent. Sometimes plain dull. (Ok, to be fair, idk how groundbreaking this was in the day itself. But I do know that other groups - Brass Construction, Skyy, Dynasty, the funkier parts of the Solar Records roster, generally - grabbed the ball and ran much further with it. Give the guy a living legend medal and move along, I think.

I've heard of Funkadelic and other George Clinton projects. I'm not sure if I've heard any tracks specifically from Funkadelic or not. All of the tracks on this album were new to me. Most of the individual tracks were okay, but the first track on the B-side was enough to sink the album as a whole. I would not listen to this album again.

Was disappointed to find it a little boring. It's more toward the groove side than funk. Many long jam tracks with repetitive melodies and lyrics. I prefer the songs where it tips toward the rock style. The live version of Maggot Brain is pretty cool though.

Je n'ai pas très bien compris pourquoi, malgré un talent musical indéniable, le groupe a fait le choix de demander à tous ses membres de parler en même temps en guise de fond sonore. C'est extrêmement désagréable. Autre point dérangeant, je trouve assez scandaleux que le groupe ait choisi le nom de Funkadelic, car il est bien connu que le style funk appartient au seul et unique roi de la funk, Sinclair Si c'est bon comme ça. Une belle preuve de manque de culture et de respect envers les aînés de la funk, que je me dois de sanctionner.

More of a jam album, closer to Frank Zappa than to funk. As an album listening experience, it doesn’t offer anything truly exceptional, regardless of the truly impressive musicianship.

Lengthy but full of incredible freestyle solos, riffs and licks. The tightness of the songs diminishes as the album progresses but it’s a great snapshot of the best of the genre
Practically flawless funk album. Only previously heard Maggot Brain, so this felt much more traditional. All the tracks are flawless. Didn't even notice how long they were until I needed to use the bathroom but decided not until the song was over. Rock comes in the later tracks. I was a little nervous because Eddie Hazel wasn't in this album, but no, this guitarist is insane. Works really well creating the funk rhythm. Vocals are superb. It's a whole crowd having fun, full of humor and energy. All the vocals, rhythm, and instruments work in harmony together. Everyone works together to create what I consider to be the pinnacle of funk. Gets milder in the last two tracks but still great tracks. Favorite tracks: "One Nation Under a Groove", "Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad"

Full funk, with plenty of long tracks so you can feel the groove all the way through. Only available on spotify and youtube, oddly. This is a high 4 star album for me.
Full disclosure: this album was not available on Spotify. However, that being said, I listened to some of their other music and didn't love it. Coupled with the song titles and year of release, I feel pretty safe in my assumption here.

1978. One Nation Under a Groove
I am not that fond of long -adelic songs that just keeps on going to try to bubble up some kind of high from deep within the bowels of the listener, you really have to be high on funk to really get into this. But I mean who can really say no to the funk, all the funk, and nothing but the funk? 3 stars Maggotbrain is of course on the album, so gotta give it something And wtf is lunchmeataphobia. Everything about that track is a little repulsive.

Aside from the iconic title track I wasn't really into the funk portion of this one. The rock tracks on the second half were well done and enjoyable though. Saved the whole album after that horrendous ten minute poop song.
I definitely like this. It felt more energetic and and varied than other funk I frequently come across. another one where context and recent albums come into play. It's a 3.5 for me, but when I compare it to the Parliament from the other day, I liked this a fair bit more. I think I'll bump it to a 4 because of that.

I was surprised to learn that Eddie Hazel had nothing to do with this record. The P-Funk roster is DEEP. Obviously this is funky, but there's a prog rock thing happening here that's super interesting. A couple of the tracks (especially the bits with the repetitive call and response) fell flat for me. Best track: One Nation Under A Groove
Wow this is long. Its a mixture of funk and kinda like psychadelic rock? Lots of long guitar solos which is not my favourite. But the funkier and more melodic moments are really fun - I really like "Into you" and "One nation under a groove" .

Funky! A little too funky at times - I mean, not every word in the song needs to be, or rhyme with, "funk" - but otherwise really fun. The back stretch of the album lost lyrics altogether and went down the path of awesome solos.

I honestly didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did. Funk and rock fused into something wonderful. Energetic and kept me going throughout the work day.

I don’t know anything about this band or record. But I’ll “get down just for the funk of it.” I don’t know this for certain but there have to be people in this band who played with the Talking Heads in the 80s. Yep. Just looked it up. Bernie Worrell. Synth player on Stop Making Sense. This is probably less conducive to listening while working because it deserves to be played loud at 2:30 am, when you’ve really decided to make a real night of it… Highlights: One Nation Under a Groove; the title “Maggot Brain.”
This band definitely lives up to its name. Sweet bass work by Bootsy, Skeet, and Boogie (who'd expect anything less from those guys?). Love the grooves, but - just like SNL makes the mistake of turning a two-minute sketch into a two-hour long movie - the grooves become less enjoyable at about the 4-minute mark.

Man this just cooks. How dies Prince become Prince without George Clintin leading the way. Also some of the best guitar work ever committed to vinyl. This live versiom of Maggot Brain left me breathless. A 5-star album

Absolute banger. Legitimate album to listen to before you die - not just for itself but also for everything else that came after: No G Funk, Daisy Age hip hop or Neptunes prosecutions without this band. And it’s just so damn funky - impossible to stay still when listening to this. There are a few tracks that overstay their welcome ("Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad (The Doo Doo Chasers)"). But overall an absolute classic.

I used to go do drugs to music like this in clubs so I am probably biased. One comment is don't put live versions of your songs in an album. if i wanted to listen to someone else sing your music I'd go to youtube. Negated my going outside anxiety and I didn't feel the blister forming on my heel as I walked so points. However I didn't save any of the music to listen to later so I can't rate above a three

Creative, irreverent & topical.
The title track slaps hard, but the rest felt a bit same-y
I find this underwhelming. There's a lot going on but for me, it just doesn't click. The wacky song titles made them seem like a novelty band.
I like the funk, this feels like the soundtrack that was playing in the background during the 70s. But I feel the album could have been literally half the length and that honestly would have improved it. Too many of the songs started strong and then just repeated themselves over and over, until I was almost sick of them. Would have been amazing live, but could've really used a bit of restraint on the recording. I do really like a lot of what's going on, there's so many good ideas that still feel fresh and I love the casual rock break in the middle of the album. I think it deserves a bit higher than the 3 I'm giving it, it seems like it was probably groundbreaking at the time, but a 4 would be too much credit given I was not able to finish it.
I really wanted to like this one but it just kept on going. Nothing really noteworthy here.

Wonderful and fun, with such interesting layers and texture. No surprise to learn how influential this group and its related group, Parliament, are in the world of funk music and music generally. All the musicians are incredible, and I always gravitate guitar because that's the instrument I play, and wow, Mike Hampton and Gary Shider are superb.

ой, сначала подумал «ну понятно» и скептически подошёл. но где-то ближе к середине меня сломало. пиздец охуенные запилы же. ну и грув реально ПРИСУТСТВУЕТ моднейший по тем временам. конечно, мне легче вот такую музыку воспринимать в использовании каких-нибудь Ламаров-хуемаров, когда всё это адекватится современной обработкой. Но всё-таки не могу не признать, что душевное музло и с немалой долей угара, что уважабельно (посмотреть на названия хотя бы). В общем норм, с удовольствием бы на часок зачиллить под эту тему с тугим блантом (зачеркнуто) с бутылкой вискарика или типа того. 8/10, пусть его
Вообще не выкупал прикола фанка никогда. В детстве засел момент из Джимми Нейтрона вроде, там тян ни с того ни с сего врубает какое-то унылое музло и говорит, мол «отрываемся под самый лучший жанр, фанк». А на неё все смотрят как на ебанутую. Думал, для комического эффекта подобрали какую-то уныль, типа как в Папиных дочках выбирали какую-то муть для демонстрации якобы готик-рока Даши. А нет, действительно, весь фанк, что слышал, звучит как the thing that should not be. Так что там по альбому. Да снова архачиная одиозная уныль. Заглавный трек вообще пустышка назойливая, но, бля, при этом внесён в зал славы рок-н-ролла, ну охуеть теперь. Треки скучные и надоедливые, названия всратые. Последний трек правда хорош, но занимает то же место в альбоме, что и New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down в Sound of Silver, будто говорит: «Смотри, мы могли бы нормальное музло играть, но не стали, хы-ы». Ну и идите нахуй тогда.

Smooth funk that sets a groove and keeps it going. It is strangely difficult to find this album though due to licensing.

I used to have the title track of this album on a couple of playlists years ago, but never heard much more by Funkadelic. I still absolutely love the title track and there were also some more good parts on this album, especially Who Says A Funk Band Can't Play Rock and the live track Maggot Brain which both have some sick guitars. It's not the kind of music I want to listen to for too long in one go or particularly often. But for every once in a while it's pretty good.

The absolute pinnacle of funk, with a healthy blend of rock and psychedelia. I would give my left leg to be invited to a 1970's George Clinton party, and I don't even like parties.
No lo encontré en Spotify (?), espero que lo que escuché en yt haya sido el bueno. De cualquier forma me gustó un montón, tiene una vibra muy animada (a ratos como para estar pachecx), buen ritmo y mezclas interesantes.
Lunchmeataphobia this is essentially one great track and then an album full of filler. Doo Doo chasers. definitely getting a higher score because of the track names and the homemade album cover that is trying to say something about the bermuda triangle.
I haven't listened to this before, and didn't expect to like it, but it's fantastic.

This should be better. It starts well but quickly fades into background music because it's so samey throughout. I kept forgetting I was listening to it. It's obviously very influential, you can play 'spot the sample' throughout the thing. Disappointing though, I thought it would be more and it so veryn early was.

I really like this. Funky, interesting and a lot like maggot brain.
It didn't inspire me to dance in the office at 10am on a Monday morning. Top funk would have. The whole office would be up off their seats, with every demographic represented, in a rainbow-coalition of dancing.
Incredibly funky. Some crazy weird druggy funk lyrics, a pretty great closing track with a Hendrixesque guitar solo.

3.6 + The blend of genres, the communal feel, and the sheer funk - you can't deny the ambition and scope of vision here. Purely as a listening experience, though, it can get tiring to wade through some of the extended jam sessions. For me, it sometimes sounds too crowded. I'm a bigger fan of "Maggot Brain" as a more coherent record, though it's not as accomplished as a funk record or amalgam of genres.

Psychedelic Freak Funkrock, frisch vom Mutterschiff - wem da nicht Hose und Hirn platzen, der ... sollte sich mal die eine anziehen und das andere ausknipsen, oder? Mich jedenfalls kickt diese in ihrer ernsthaften Albernheit und Weirdness ja auch wahnsinnig integrative, einfach alle Völker rauschartig verschmelzende Sex- und Koks- und LSD-Mischung ("One Nation Under A Groove", remember?) mit zunehmendem Alter immer mehr. Weiß auch nicht warum, aber so isses ja nun mal. Da passiert einfach so viel! Herrlich, wie es überall schengelt und bumst an Deck, und blubbert und quietscht und lickt und wie die größte Angst darin besteht, von einem Sandwich gegessen zu werden: bitte beamen Sie mich hoch, denn who says an old white cis male can't jump? Abgesehen davon natürlich auch beeindruckend: die bei aller Verpeiltheit schiere technische Perfektion (das Live Medley, meine Güte!), die aber nie auch nur in die Nähe von kaltem Muckertum gerät. In dem Zusammenhang allerdings auch anzumerken: gegen Ende wird's mir mit der P E Squad ein bisschen ZU verpeilt. Aber hey: sonnige 4 Punkte schicken wir auf jeden Fall ins All!
Best funk album is a deserved title. Would be a 4.5 just because I couldn't listen on spotify, and availability should matter.
It's very clear how much this album influenced many modern songs. This is not exactly my preferred music style, but it's very easy to understand why this is a complete classic.

Another one that is so insanely elevated above the general pack. Not enough great music is also genuinely funny.
Sound is cool, can see it's influence on lots of other bands and genres. Lyrics are a tad one dimensional, they love singing that they have the funk. Enjoyed it.

Funky and fun and impossible to resist dancing to. Maggot Brain came earlier in this project and this isn't as awesome as that album, but is still a great listen. These guys, despite being the epitome of the 70s, never sound dated, and give everything they have on every track.
