Funky, africano. 3

Genre: P-Funk 3/5 One of the most highly regarded P-Funk albums ever released, Funkadelic's tenth studio effort, One Nation Under a Groove, is an hour-long funk rock experience that very effectively highlights the talents of the players, but overall isn't as entertaining and as lively as I was expecting. The album ranges from straight funk to more psychedelic/prog arenas, but in both ventures they seem to be missing a certain element, at least for me. I was expecting a lot more uptempo tracks mixed in with the more groove-oriented, laidback tracks, but it was mostly pretty laidback song-to-song. The title and intro is a great little song, with a very catchy chorus and vocal line, but the tracklist continues afterwards at a pretty tepid pace. Groovallegiance and Who Says a Funk Band... are both decent-sounding, well-played tracks, but need a little bit of a kick in the ass. P.E. Squad is one of the goofiest tracks I've listened to so far in this book, and sounds like a Zappa B-side that he threw away because it was a little too goofy, even for him. The live EP is a decent bonus, but even those live cuts are missing something. These guys can play, and it's a good time that I'm sure is quite enjoyable to some, but this almost had the feel of a pop reggae record. It had a certain background music quality to it that left me wanting a lot more, unfortunately. But not bad.

Not usually a genre I listen to, but I was getting into some of these funk songs

Enjoyed this a lot

Started really strong but I thought it was quite spotty after that. This is the kind of album where I'll choose 2 or 3 songs to put in playlists and be happy with just that.

It was definitely too long, but some songs were enjoyable. Maggot Brain is waaaaaay better, give me this one.

It's ok in a best of or a playlist but the whole album is a bit long..

It's a good and nice album, very nice vibes in it. However, it misses something special... Maybe a lack of catchy melodies? I don't know. But I appreciated it.

Listened to on 5/30/22 3.5/5 Favorite song: one nation under a groove The guitar playing was PHENOMENAL and this album was so easy to listen to - gotta love the 70s even if this band was for sure on drugs

Didn’t listen. Not on Spotify, but not gonna hunt it down.

This is not on spotify or apple music

Not available

track 4 has the weirdest song title in all of music history. The rest of the album is more enjoyable than the other one I listened to- Maggot Brain- mainly because the fusion between funk and rock is much more enjoyable here

Ayeee a smooth ass groove.

Enjoyable listen, but not much stuck out other than the title track. Need to listen to much more Funkadelic and Parliament though. That's clear.

Great Funk album. Standout: One Nation Under A Groove 3.5/5

The legendary guitars on Maggot brain is the highlight here

I can get into this! 3/5

Dang, I've been looking forward to some P-Funk of any kind, and we get a signature album that for some reason isn't on Apple Music or Spotify. It's solid though, very enjoyable grooves from start to finish. I'm still patiently waiting for the day we get Maggot Brain, that's the kind of Funkadelic I need in my life. But this one's really good too! Favorite Tracks: One Nation Under a Groove, Promental whatever, Lunchmeataphobia. Album art: I've seen this many times, I love the art style and colors. Trying to find this album on Apple Music, I saw a ton of amazing album covers like this one, Funkadelic seems to have done that right. 3.5/5

It has moments of real quality but they don’t last sufficiently for a really high score.

George Clinton and his band of funk masters are...weird. Undeniably so. They embrace the psychedelic while maintaining the black excellence of the funk genre. This culminates in a lot of songs that are certainly funky but also strange, not dissimilar to Frank Zappa's work. This leads to a varying level of quality where the bizarre approach holds back the better aspects of the music, but other times instills a memorable quality while the music is still able to speak for itself. Obvious highlight is Maggot Brain, which carries the whole album imo. This was their breakthrough album but I much prefer some of the earlier stuff. Not bad though.

It took some searching, with "One Nation Under a Groove" unavailable on Amazon Music, to get into the groove. But YouTube saved the day, and my frustration was washed away by the funk. My toes were tapping, my day was brightened. Funk is not necessarily my thing, but I won't say no to this. Well, maybe I would say no to the "musical bowel movement" of "Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad (The Doo Doo Chasers)" - those are some absolutely hilarious lyrics to read, but it's a bit agonizing to listen to. Though I do appreciate that it helped to rid me of moral diarrhea, social bullshit, crazy doo doo, and mental poots.

I know I'm supposed to view this group through a funk lens, but there is so much rock and jam in this album, I don't think it's right to limit my view. That idea is perfect captured both lyrically and musically in the track 'Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?!" Building from that idea, I think that spirit is a major part of why this album leaves such an indelible impression. Each track forces you to open your mind further and further, both on what you think the band is, and on various serious and nonsensical topics. But none of it comes across as heavy handed. They just want to help bring one nation together under a groove! Highlight tracks for me would be 'One Nation Under a Groove', 'Cholly', and especially 'Maggot Brain / Chant'.

A good mostly instrumental album to have on in the background.

Never heard this album before, it was pretty good. Some awesome guitar riffs. Really enjoyed P.E. squad/ Doo Doo Chasers.

Funky! Some great basslines and beats on this feelgood album

OK. I preferred the other album so this is a low 3.

Je sais pas trop quoi en penser

Magnificent. 7 out of ten.

Classic funk!

Decent

Cool album, it's funky, danceable and lots of fun! But not my cup of tea.

Much less funky than their previous efforts (though the funk is still present) this album is more focused on bringing a more rock sound to the funkiest people on the planet. They do indeed rock as well as funk. Not their best. Best Tracks: One Nation Under a Groove; Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock Music?! Cholly (Funk Getting Ready To Roll!)

Good fun, but a little incoherent.

How can you not love this.... in small doses far apart

Wasn’t on Spotify and wasn’t gonna bother with YouTube. The first couple tracks sounded pretty funky and groovy though.

6'5/10

Interesting

Funky!

Was only able to access 1 song. Liked it. But need to hear more to give the album a rating

Can't Listen. Not on Spotify.

I feel like I should be a bigger fan of this than I am, but it does seem to go on a bit...

Started strong, but lost me in the middle. Completely forgot it was even playing near the end. This did not grab me.

i dont thing spotify has this album so im listening to maggot brain whatever that means. good work listen tho.

It's not something I could listen to daily, but it's a bop for sure

The cool thing about this 1001 album generator is that it challenges me to listen to music I would otherwise avoid. Funk's not really my thing, so I haven't been exposed to much funk, but I heard that Funkadelic is a great place to start. I'm glad I listened, it was a head-bobbing, FUNky listen alright and this will lead me to sample more from Funkadelic. Really...Thanks generator!

Well, you know. Worthy. Indulgent. Sometimes plain dull. (Ok, to be fair, idk how groundbreaking this was in the day itself. But I do know that other groups - Brass Construction, Skyy, Dynasty, the funkier parts of the Solar Records roster, generally - grabbed the ball and ran much further with it. Give the guy a living legend medal and move along, I think.

3/5 it didn't make the cut

Enjoyable and fun background music.

Based on only the first track (only available track on Spotify).

Was disappointed to find it a little boring. It's more toward the groove side than funk. Many long jam tracks with repetitive melodies and lyrics. I prefer the songs where it tips toward the rock style. The live version of Maggot Brain is pretty cool though.

A fun listen

More of a jam album, closer to Frank Zappa than to funk. As an album listening experience, it doesn’t offer anything truly exceptional, regardless of the truly impressive musicianship.

Not a big fan of funk but the combination of rock made it decent for me. Songs bit too long and repetitive

Lengthy but full of incredible freestyle solos, riffs and licks. The tightness of the songs diminishes as the album progresses but it’s a great snapshot of the best of the genre

Couldn’t find all of this anywhere, but listened to the one track I could find while painting and it grooved

I am not that fond of long -adelic songs that just keeps on going to try to bubble up some kind of high from deep within the bowels of the listener, you really have to be high on funk to really get into this. But I mean who can really say no to the funk, all the funk, and nothing but the funk? 3 stars Maggotbrain is of course on the album, so gotta give it something And wtf is lunchmeataphobia. Everything about that track is a little repulsive.

Aside from the iconic title track I wasn't really into the funk portion of this one. The rock tracks on the second half were well done and enjoyable though. Saved the whole album after that horrendous ten minute poop song.

Funky!

Wow this is long. Its a mixture of funk and kinda like psychadelic rock? Lots of long guitar solos which is not my favourite. But the funkier and more melodic moments are really fun - I really like "Into you" and "One nation under a groove" .

Did not listen to- unavailable on Spotify and Apple Music

It was definitely a lot funk

Very funky. 3/5

I guess it's alright for its genre. Left me cold

Decent early funk. Good electric guitar!

This band definitely lives up to its name. Sweet bass work by Bootsy, Skeet, and Boogie (who'd expect anything less from those guys?). Love the grooves, but - just like SNL makes the mistake of turning a two-minute sketch into a two-hour long movie - the grooves become less enjoyable at about the 4-minute mark.

Another weird funk rock album by Funkadelic. I like about half of the tracks, but there are some others I could take or leave.

pretty groovy

Molto carino e fun! Brani a volte lunghi

I used to go do drugs to music like this in clubs so I am probably biased. One comment is don't put live versions of your songs in an album. if i wanted to listen to someone else sing your music I'd go to youtube. Negated my going outside anxiety and I didn't feel the blister forming on my heel as I walked so points. However I didn't save any of the music to listen to later so I can't rate above a three

The title track slaps hard, but the rest felt a bit same-y

I like the funk, this feels like the soundtrack that was playing in the background during the 70s. But I feel the album could have been literally half the length and that honestly would have improved it. Too many of the songs started strong and then just repeated themselves over and over, until I was almost sick of them. Would have been amazing live, but could've really used a bit of restraint on the recording. I do really like a lot of what's going on, there's so many good ideas that still feel fresh and I love the casual rock break in the middle of the album. I think it deserves a bit higher than the 3 I'm giving it, it seems like it was probably groundbreaking at the time, but a 4 would be too much credit given I was not able to finish it.

Smooth funk that sets a groove and keeps it going. It is strangely difficult to find this album though due to licensing.

Funkadelic, exactly what it says on the tin 😂 groovy, Prince-esque vibes. Decent, OG shit, real enjoyable. 3/5.

Lunchmeataphobia this is essentially one great track and then an album full of filler. Doo Doo chasers. definitely getting a higher score because of the track names and the homemade album cover that is trying to say something about the bermuda triangle.

Incredibly funky. Some crazy weird druggy funk lyrics, a pretty great closing track with a Hendrixesque guitar solo.

3.6 + The blend of genres, the communal feel, and the sheer funk - you can't deny the ambition and scope of vision here. Purely as a listening experience, though, it can get tiring to wade through some of the extended jam sessions. For me, it sometimes sounds too crowded. I'm a bigger fan of "Maggot Brain" as a more coherent record, though it's not as accomplished as a funk record or amalgam of genres.

couldn't listen on spotify

Funky, africano.

Pretty awesome. 3 stars.

Sound is cool, can see it's influence on lots of other bands and genres. Lyrics are a tad one dimensional, they love singing that they have the funk. Enjoyed it.

Getting down just for the funk of it.

Jo jo funky... Men meget lange og lige lovlig fjollet og underlige. Æv

the album wasn't on spotify/youtube

Really fun, not sure I fully got this one, but glad to listen to it fully!

Funk isn't my bag, but this was fine

I don't like it, which is not the same as me disliking it. Sadly this music is lost one me.

Not bad, but not good

Not my style

Only 3 songs available on Spotify (though Wikipedia suggests that is the full original album). Starts bright, but repetition soon sets in. As a single, it’s fun and upbeat. But by the end of 3 songs I was starting to want it to funk off.

I wanted to enjoy this, but I don't think it flowed

Ok whats their obsession with fart noises and shit? The other album of theirs was bad enough, but now this? 2 ⭐️

Weeral man, fuck alle gitaren gro ik ben da zo kots beu.

Too long and lacks structure.

Cool, funk music is always good in my book, but what makes this stand out? I want you to tell me, since Funkadelic didn't.

repetitive

Giver karakter som det sidste album. Hørte meget lidt. Gjorde intet. Mindede om Maggot Brain.

Fuera de mi zona de confort

Not available on any music service so what the fuck am I supposed to do with this reco???

My second Funkadelic album in the challenge. I may need to revisit some of my first reviewed albums when all is said and done.

it's not even an album?

Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?!

I don't like funk. This seems pointless. 2 stars

this was ok but maggot brain was better

Lets get Funky! 2/5

i really wanted to like this but it didn't catch my attention outside of a few sections (the few sections mostly being guitar solos). some fun ideas here and there but nothing that stuck with me. also it being mysteriously not on streaming made it kind of annoying to look for but that's no fault of the music fave track: one nation under a groove

Couldn't find an album with this title, so I listened to Funkadelic for an album's length of time. They sure are funky.

2/5 - not really my thing in many songs, the vocals put me off (eg. in the title song, and especially 'into you'). the beats were always interesting and funky though i enjoyed it more as i got to the third song - 'WHO SAYS A PUNK BAND CAN'T PLAY ROCK?!' - which was my favourite from the album. also enjoyed the final song 'cholly'... apart from those two, the other four didn't really resonate with me I also listened to the 3 bonus EPs but by the time I got to those I wasn't paying too much attention so I will not include in my review

Short album never would have found it without this website but cool.

2.5 - Not bad but it seems as if the full album isn't listed on spotify to can't fairly judge it

Viber ikke helt til dette. Spørs om funk er min greie. Top 3: Maggot Brain, One Nation Under A Groove, Who Says A Funk Band Can’t Play Rock?

It’s average, with a classic banger of a song on it.

Fried ice cream is not a reality for me. Maybe I just don't like funk, but the songs just seemed to keep going endlessly, the instrumental play was nice at parts but also very repetitive in the other parts.

Dude, I've loved the P-Funk I've heard, but most of these songs dragged on for too long, and I liked how they all started.

Biš monotons. Grūti aprakstīt.

Prefer their album Maggot Brain

Not enough funk!

One of those albums where I start to ask « how much longer is left? » and then check and we’re still on track 3. safe to say, not a good day for me to be back in the 70s

Not so bad but very far from my taste. Two points. Not so far from one.

Was not able to listen

Title track aside there is a not a lot to enthuse about here. Just seems to be a lot of people enjoying themselves a little too much.

Weird one to recommend, maybe it had a significant story around it? Will need to read the wiki

The grooves are there for sure, but the majority of these aren't really songs per se - most of it seems like a jam session committed to tape. 2/5

Couldn’t listen on Spotify only showed three songs…

it was not for me

Did my best to cobble the album together since the actual one is hard to find

most songs unavailable. not my type.

Not for me

Nearly every song is over 5 mins long, some even 10+! These songs feel like if you don’t pay enough attention to the track you will think it’s moved onto another song but it’s just the interlude to the second part of the song that sounds widely different to the first. They also have a song called backwashpsychosis Enema Squad, so there’s that. A creative band to which I can say I have never heard anyone sound like them before, or since.

Yeah…nah…not for me

It was.... fine? Maybe not funky or groovy enough for me. More background music. Though I enjoyed learning where doo-doo chasers came from, I've only heard Ween's version and didn't know it was a cover until now.

censored in Spain

Funk off

Was banned on Spotify so I listened to a different album partially before I got bored

Funky, but seemed copycat.

The previous Funkadelic album was a disaster and this isn’t much better. I’ve always liked the title track, but it’s still too long - every Funkadelic song is too long. I had a bit of a giggle at the title of track 4. And now I’m out of positive things to say. I am aware that George Clinton is seen as a master and pioneer of funk, but I prefer the work that he would do with Parliament than this.

I have this issue with funk songs, and Funkadelic songs in particular: Minutes 0-3: "This is great!" Minutes 4-5: "Yeah, this has been going on a bit too long now, I'm ready for the next song" Minutes 6+: "Is this ever going to end?!" That being said, the first 3 minutes of the opening track was the perfect song to walk to work with. I was pretty much strutting. The lyrics are hysterical as well, so that was fun. Overall however, I have not pledged "a groovallegiance to the funk". 2/5

Musically it's Oak, but I can't abide all the shitty talking over it.

This was funk music for over an hour. That’s too much funk for me…

Best Track - "One Nation Under A Groove"

Not for me.

Not a fan of funk music. I can understand the importance of the record, but I coundln't wait for it to be over.

This is not the best P-Funk has put out. Even the album art seems slightly lazy. George Clinton may have reached the point of diminishing on using drugs for musical inspiration for this one. Just a side note, "Mike Judge Presents: Tales From the Tour Bus" season 2 covers P-Funk and the main acts associated with it and is well worth a watch.

wava ra

I bet this was incredible live. Didn't float my boat while walking the dog though

Didn’t really listen, a bit long and forgettable

Unfortunately Spotify only has 3 tracks from this album so there's not much for me to work with. Definitely funky.

That album was nowhere to be found, so I search one year earlier and I did like the sounds, but it wasn’t the same, I did found a small song

I could only listen to 3 of the songs, other ones were hidden Not my style but I liked the energy

This was fuuun.

I haven't intentionally listened to a lot of funk, but it's a genre that I enjoy when it comes round. And I really loved the first three songs on this album. But then I hit P.E. Squad, and I have to admit that it wasn't for me - too chaotic and disjointed. The rest of the album was good but was a tad jam-band-y for my taste. - Heard before? No. - Will I listen again? I'll probably add the first three songs to a playlist, but I won't listen to it in entirety again. - Does it inspire me to listen to more of this artist? Maybe not Funkadelic/Parliament/George Clinton specifically, but I wouldn't mind exploring the funk genre more.

A collection of funk/dance jams. There are some great Bootsy basslines and funky Bernie Worrell synth grooves. If you dig 70's funk music that sounds like a party goin on, P-funk is your jam. Good stuff, but nothing earth-shattering or ground-breaking. 2.5/5

Not really sure what it’s trying to say.

Underwhelmed

Only being able to listen to part of it. I didn't find it very convincing.

I like me some funk, but this sounds dated

Mientras estudiaba lo he escuchado y lo he disfrutado, pero no mi favorito. Canciones excesivamente largas tho.

Most songs sound same to me, otherwise just okay.

Ganske ok, liker noen partier godt.

Not my style, the songs are sooo long without buildups and for an album with groove in the title some songs are not up to it. It still has bangers so 2.5/5

5/10 It is definitely a summer album. I wouldn't find this apbum on my own so it's something new for me. It was wery mesy and chaotich but not in the way I enjoy music. But I really liked some of the instruments. If I had listened it in the summer and not christmas i would rate it higher.

This funk album pumps out elastic bass lines, chattering guitars, bright keys, and loose, joy-drunk grooves, with vocals that bounce between playful chants and sly swagger, all of it swirling together like a wild block party that occasionally tips from liberation into unruly excess.

Funky, yes. But ultimately just a bit too boring

The first track was good, but the rest weren't available on spotify. I left it at that.

Nah. Vamps are so overrepetetive, that it gives brain no simulation. Some good guitar playing though, but all the parts except guitar solos are boring. +1 point for Maggot Brain, though I love original version more. The inclusion of it is so contrasting, that it made me wonder, "whatever happened to band that once did Maggot Brain album?"

I typically can't resist a groovie, funkie record but this one is really not all that special to be honest. Sure it grooves, it's kinda fun sometimes, like the title track, but overall : yeah ok.

To YouTube I go, as the AI drone funding supervillain platform I use doesn’t contain this full record. Mercifully for all, this means there will be fewer words and maybe an abandonment of the extremely popular (see: cumbersome) track-by-track review format. So as I go to another platform, also owned by a dead-eyed sociopath, I look forward to enjoying 70’s funk, a genre I don’t really care for whilst being interrupted by ads for AI, a technology that could be be used to create a utopia where menial tasks are fulfilled by computers and there is a basic standard of living for all, but instead it’s used to further consolidate wealth in a society that no longer has need for Darwinian squabbling, but perpetuates it for, you know, fun! Anyway. Time to get freaky! Small update. After a fun first track, it appears that we have settled into an album that is now devoid of ideas. Splendid. Well, as much as I hated track 2, this thing picked up from there with the heavily guitar-centric “Who Says a Funk Band Can’t Play Rock!?” The “shit-centric” and unpronounceable “Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad (The Doo Doo Chasers)” is as juvenile as it is psychedelic. I don’t go for scatalogical humour, but(t) if you take out that part, this is a pretty cool track. As one adlib astutely asked “which one is George Clinton?” Truly one of the great ponderings of our time. Too bad it came in the package of a horribly unfunny song centered around poop jokes. Yes, this album was better than I thought it would be. Yes, this album clearly has incredible musicianship and a distinct point of view. Yes, this probably influenced thousands upon thousands of bands and had some ingenious moments. No, I will not be listening to it again. A decent record that has more to offer to a bigger fan of the genre than I. A true progenitor of its kind. Just not a kind I care for all that much. Wasted on me. 2.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Honestly? Probably the poop song.

What the funking funk?

Interesting. Somewhat. Couple good songs, nothing I’d revisit. Maggot brain has some great guitar!

Not my groove. ★★

I loved the single ONUAG, but the album, not very much, I actually prefer George Clinton’s work with “Parliament”

It’s fine, too bad it’s so hard to locate right now.

Ok, but not mine

A little too jammy for me, but really well executed.

Liked this at points, found it tiring for most of it. Sometimes it felt like true improv funk where people knew what they were doing but didn't know how to develop it into something else. Other times it felt borderline schizophrenic. I only added two songs from the album, which is rare for funk, so it's 4.5 / 10 Best tune/s: Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock

es geht so ...

I think this is a cool album and wouldn't be out of play in the charts today. But it's a bit long repetitive and maybe lose a bit of concentration listening to it but a good album to have on in the background so does the job well. We need more funk and rock fusions.

Not my cup of tea

Only three out of ten songs were available in my country, one of which was a remix of another one. Luckily, all funk sounds the same, so I don't think I missed anything.

really really.... werid album. Was not bad just not really that great

Considering the band name this did not have enough funk for me

Heard to find this one

Hmph, first album I can't play on Spotify. Maybe it was the lack of flow from Youtubing every song but never got into this one.

Can't deny that they do exactly what they say on the tin, but I just can't help thinking Funkadelic are nowhere near as interesting or as melodically canny as Sly And The Family Stone. It's all just very vamp-y and samey rather than a collection of well-structured songs. I prefer the sound of this to Maggot Brain, but it still doesn't move me, in fact I found myself zoning out a couple of times...

~note this album was not available on Spotify, this review is written for their album Funkadelic~ It was interesting but not entertaining enough.

I get why some people like this. 2.5

They were super high.

I have heard Maggot brain before and I really like that song. But other than that, this album was not that good.

Title track catchy ma troppo monotona e lunga.

Well, the group had a good time making this at least, that's abundantly clear.

I don't think I am a fan of funk :(

Funk is not my cup of tea

Couldn't find this on spotify but listened on youtube. Not bad, but not great. Every funkin' song did nothing but funkin' look for funk to insert funk. Just meh

Not for me

Good guitarist but the funk puns are beyond tiring

Meh. Repeating a lot. If I was on drugs, I'd get it.

o.k. but not exactly my jam.

Litt for mye Møllers tran.

not my cup of tea.

"Givin' you more of what you're funkin' for..." Listened to B4? No Tracks Already Saved on Spotify: None Standout Tracks: One Nation Under a Groove Title track is a banger. The other 5 tracks are mid to oof. Big let down. (56/100)

Need to listen

I understand why this is good, but it's also just not for me. I don't like the psychedelic-rock-infused funk as much as the pure funk. George Clinton and Bootsy are obviously legends, this just isn't grabbing me. 2/5.

Well chill

Certainly very funky but I found it quite repetitive and difficult to listen to.

Not available on spotify. Suffered through youtube

Very good but not for me

Groovy

Decent. Worst Song: Groovallegiance, lunchmeataphobia Best Song: One Nation Under A Groove Added to Liked Songs: One Nation Under A Groove

Can appreciate the Afro-futurism and grooves all over this joint. Had it on in the background and didn’t quite grab me as intended.

Not my thing. Extended instrumental cuts. Some a little catchy but I seem to want a 2min pop cut instead of the 8min funk version.

It was ok... I'm not that into funk, I think

I know racism is bad and all, but this type of Afrocentric Blaxploitation 'Resist!' aesthetic just comes across as incredibly corny to me. The politics are mostly alright and the music isn't that bad either, but the whole package just irks me. Key tracks: One Nation Under a Groove

Confusing to listen to

Not greatest.

not as groovy as the name would have you believe

I don’t think I was in the mood for hearing 12 people playing different songs. I am a fan of funk and you can’t get more funk than funkadelic.

Enjoyed it more than most funk, but WHY do these songs need to be so long and repetitive?

Parliament/Funkadelic/George Clinton are highly creative and influential. They have some terrific songs that have propagated into hip hop. And this album is hot garbage. There are a few good moments, but they are too few and too scattered to save this mess. Every song goes on far too long. It's a cycle of being interested, bored, annoyed and then furious as the seventh minute rolls into the eighth and they keep doing all the same things from the first minute. A horrible experience from a great band.

One of my favorite albums.

Rating: 2 Notable songs: n/a Not for me at all. Songs too long and blend into a long boring time.

Too funky for my brain.

Most of the songs here are too minimalist and way too drown out. If you're into this sort of relaxing music, than you're probably going like this, especially considering that there's some great guitar work here. For me through, this was quite underwhelming and at times boring. 5/10

Not available to play.

Spotify only has three album tracks for me, but that's plenty. The pile of mediocre 70s albums on this list is ever-increasing. 2/5

Odd but funky

Nice funk album bit bloated but okay

I can see the talent and influence but it was just too jarring for me to enjoy.

A bit drawn out but really funky

To paraphrase Columbia in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, "it's ok." Funk is not my favorite music genre and this certainly isn't my favorite funk album. Some of the songs go on a little too long. It's fun at times. It's boring at times. It's ok.

Not a lot to it, three songs, 17 mins - not super memorable. I liked the first song, but wouldn’t listen again

Unavailable 😔

Spotify didn't allow this to play on the web.

Not overtly funky

I really liked Maggotbrain, so i was pumped for this, but I was really not a fan of this.

I don't really get funk. This looks like a tongue in cheek group though, so kudos for that.

Too much talking in songs. Didn’t mind overall

any joy i had listening to this album was taken away by the extremely long interlude talking about shit. i didn't become a doctor for a reason!!!!!

Hip-shakin' energy! "Maggot Brain" - good guitar work.

Liked the first song. Is this album important? Would like to know. Didn't do much for me. But it gets 2 for being groovy and bringing me in a groovy mood.

Good individual tracks but Funk'd out by the end.

Spotify wouldn't let me listen to the entire album without paying, but the two tracks that I was allowed to listen, (including the title track), sound so dated now.

Not for me

They have better songs on other albums. Rather Standard disco.

The album was way too chaotic. It was really hard to gather any meaning from the songs. The music was really good, though. Maybe, if I saw this performed live, I would have a better appreciation for this material.

2 sterne

Ok so the original was removed so I’m listening to the “re-groove. It’s really just some groovy shit.

Not for me

I wanted to like this one. The title track is decent. I own a few other George Clinton albums, and they are all way better than this one. I'll give it a few more listens later; perhaps it will grow on me. Disappointing 2 Stars.

Liked the title track. Sick guitar but Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad sent me into a psychosis

Funky, but not in a super standout way. I enjoyed listening to a few songs, but don’t feel compelled to listen again.

Maybe I’m ignorant to the importance of the use of repetition in funk music, but eventually it gets to be too much for me. Solid grooves, but I’m sure this would be a much better experience in person. Probably wouldn’t be coming back to this one even if it were available on Spotify.

For an album as funky as this is, I thought it would be more fun. I never really found myself enjoying it. I probably wasn't in the best setting for it, but I expected more. Especially after listening to a few other funk albums on this list. I was going to make most of my review using a bunch of innuendos and curse words replaced with the word "funk", but this album already beat me to it.

Didn't really listen to much. The album is unavailable on Spotify as of January 2025.

The album should have been the first song. It’s such a banger that it makes the rest of the songs incomparable. 4/10

It was fine but I wasn't able to listen to the whole thing b/c of limited availability.

Just did nothing for me and ended up a one and done.

The funk is not in me.

Very up and down album, wrote like d the funkiness but goes a bit novelty song here and there.

Not for me...

Ok. They have better.

2+ Stars (6/15)

It’s okay - it quickly gets tedious and repetitive though. Definitely not as strong as Maggot Brain

These meandering pieces by Funkadelic are not really my kind of Funk. Funk needs to be raw and edgy. This is "Prog Funk"... (the clue is already in the costumes) Fun(k) Fact: I was at a George Clinton concert in the late 90's. Small-ish open-air space. PA sytsem was so horrible oversized that it hurt the ears even at the back end of the enclosure. Brutal. :-) P.S.: on Spotify, only two songs of the album are available. (why does Spotify do this?) So to listen to the full album, I had to use YouTube.

Halva albumet tycks saknas? Det var iaf en sisådär första runda. Lite tjatigt, särskilt andra låten.

Spaced out a lot during this one, but it's still listenable. I kinda enjoyed the guitars. Maybe funk isn't for me, doe

Funky but too many tracks too long. Overfunked in places.
