This was the first album of this type of music I've ever listened to, and honestly I really liked it. It's music that my grandparents listen to but it's filled with soul. Everything blends together so well, whether it's the instruments or the vocals everything has it's place. I didn't know "satisfaction" from the rolling stones was a cover and I heard "my girl" on a commercial before. I feel like some of the songs dragged a bit but apart from that I enjoyed it very much and would definitely revisit it. 7.2/10

I try to consider the albums as a body of work, so while Otis Redding is an incredible artist and I enjoyed the individual songs, the album as a whole didn't work for me.

A stone cold classic album - Otis with one of the best backing bands ever.
Otis Redding had such an expressive voice. It was versatile, acrobatic, yet had a persistent grit to it. However, on songs like 'I've Been Loving You Too Long,' his voice smooths out revealing its delicacy. His songs are buoyant with a lilting beat and a robust horn section. He simply inhabits the music in a way that only the best soul/R&B artists do.

De liedjes van Otis kan ik goed aanhoren, maar een heel album achter elkaar vind ik toch niet zo heel leuk. Dan is dit album met 40 nummers wel heel lang! Het "Collector's Edition" album is wel leuk opgedeeld in een mono, een live en een stereo uitvoering. Dan merk je toch wel verschil in sfeer. Ik zou hem wel eens live willen zien denk ik ;-). Mijn favorieten zijn toch wel de bekende deuntjes "Wonderful World", "(I can't get no) Satisfaction" en "Respect". Heel leuke uitvoeringen! ***

I once grew the nail on my big toe so long that when I eventually clipped it, instead of using a key like everyone else, I would use the toe nail as a cocaine shovel. Yes, endless nights were spent shovelling charlie up my schnozz and listening to Otis Redding. Everyone in London knew me. I was a somebody, the toe nail king of the West End. I've left all that behind me now though and can't even look at a bare foot without wincing.
The first song is called 'Ole Man Trouble' and it made me think of Ole's Man Utd trouble. Really needs a result against Villareal tonight. Robert Plant's favourite from this is 'Rock Me Baby'. He nonces babies. Otis Redding is pretty good.

I really liked the vibe of the whole album. "A Change is Gonna Come" sounds a whole lot like "I'm gonna find Another You" from John Mayer and I love it.

By the cover I thought Otis Blue was a female artist. Ended up finding out that no, Otis Blue is a male and, by the way, it's not even Blue, but Redding, which is cute but "Blue" would be nicer. Also, listened the album while writing and it worked well. Wrote a chronicle about eggs and crying. Anyways, it was very good. Particularly find "Wonderful world" kinda stupid but whatever. Some super famous songs like "My Girl" and "Satisfaction" are featured on this, which is, I imagine, the biggest reason why they would recommend this. Although, there are other bangers. Especially that intro track and "Down by the valley" This was the first soul album I've ever listened and I intend to go back to it and also search another records.

Mi dà l'impressione di essere un album molto legato alle innegabili doti vocali di Otis Redding che è forse un po' anche un classico della musica soul. Comunque non so quanto ha retto il peso del tempo, mi è abbastanza scivolato addosso, forse anche perché sono saturo di anni 60. Darei un 2 ma dò un 3 perché comunque i musicisti sono bravi, è sicuramente un buon album soul '60 e penso di avere un po' il bias negativo dovuto al fatto che gli ultimi 5/6 album erano tutti '60.
Mi piace molto il genere e questo è un bel disco, di quelli che non mi stanco mai di sentire. Arriverei quasi a mettere 5 ma gli manca un qualcosa per farlo arrivare tra i miei top, ma otis è comunque un peso massimo.

Eh. Primarily covers (although ironically the original version of Respect) that really neither add to nor improve upon the originals. Ad-lib vocals become more annoying and incomprehensible as the album goes on. And I can appreciate that this wasn't remastered and understand that mixing was different in the 60s but some of the highs on the vocals and horns (esp My Girl) were headache inducing.
It's nice to hear Otis covering some classics. His voice is just so darn good. I like Sittin' By the Dock of the Bay but I feel like that's all I ever hear.

Had no idea that Otis was the first one to write and perform 'Respect' - massive tune. Feels like a 4, feels so classy and original. Damn, every track is a classic, Respect, My Girl and Satisfaction. Gotta be a 5/5, its an album full of classics
God I fucking love Otis. An excellent, excellent record from an excellent performer, even if much of it is covers. Probably some of the best covers out there, if I'm being honest.
I should love this. But I don't. I still feel the same as I did when I heard it as a teenager - it's somehow not what I want it to be.

I had to look up whether the Rolling Stones actually wrote Satisfaction cus it sounds so natural coming from him.
Wonderful album full of iconic songs, cover songs and some I had never heard before. Definitely an artist ahead of his time. Only complaint is it was short, but short and sweet!

Who doesn't love Otis? Whoever it is, they're wrong, and I wouldn't mind slapping them about the head. This album is just lovely, you can't argue with that voice, it's everything a soul voice should be. Otis sets the tone for millions of others to follow. A lovely listen.
Love the way the drums were recorded. Tight, big brass. Tasteful guitar. All the big hits - standards now. Is there anyone else past or present that can step to this? Al Green? Sam Cooke? Have you heard the Otis live at Whiskey A-Go-Go album? Oh baby boy. I never put classic soul/R&B on at home. Aren't we all supposed to play Otis while we prep a pot roast dinner for our sweeties? Aren't we all supposed to drink wine and slow dance to Otis in candlelight with bellies full of pot roast? Why the hell is there a white woman on the cover? A
Love the vamping and jamming at the end of the songs. Is this the best covers album ever? Would it be better if he wasn’t doing covers and just camping and jamming. Backing band deserves credit for the jams. I found this album to be punctuated by the fade outs, songs always ended just when he was beginning to have fun—probably a radio play thing, but it’s cutting off the best part of the band and his performance each time. I think these songs would each be 7 minutes in a modern album. Love track 1, intro is on point, love that guitar sound, saved for later. Less of a fan of track 2, generic swing R&B. Voice really shines in track 3, better than the Sam Cooke original. Track 4 really swings, head bopper, would be fun to dance to, loved the skat at the end. Track 5 is another song showcasing the voice, nice waltz, hood breakdown at the end. Track 6 is swinging but kind of cookie cutter, though it includes the line, “shake it like a bowl of soup” haha. Track 7, hard to beat the vocal harmonies of the temptations on the chorus, the vibrato on “girl” is beautiful. Track 8, another cover, meh, does include the line, “I don’t know what a slide rule is for” lol, anti-intellectualism. Track 9, Nice driving blues, guitar solo in the middle was just okay, he does ask the girl to fuck him until “my back ain’t got no bones.” Track 10, don’t like this version of satisfaction, worst song on album, original is more nuanced. Track 11, nice ballad, chill, FADE OUTS!!
Certainly some solid hits, but the album plays out as one long thought without much variation. It's pretty mono-thematic and is very much "music I put on when I want to fuck", and there's nothing wrong with that. I also can't divorce the album from its association with sentimental white people dancing at weddings.

It's Otis Redding. Doing what he does, so well.
I don’t think anyone can hate this style of music. This early soul was very influential on what became modern day R&B and I thoroughly enjoy the sound of these pioneers. Otis sings with such emotion and power and the songs on the album really bring it out. I enjoyed it a lot.

This was a fun one. At times, it's light-hearted, at times it's full of pain and sorrow... it runs the gamut in a way that most records from this era refuse to and it comes out the other end stronger for it. While Respect is weird (and a little dark) when sung by a man, it's balanced with wonderful covers of the perennial classics, My Girl, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction and Wonderful World. So much great music and misicianship on display. Easy five.

Listening to this album feels like participating in music history. Great covers. Great originals that would go on to be covered (Respect). Funky, soulful, uplifting. What else can be said? Best track: Down in the Valley
What else is there to say? It's Otis fucking Redding, one of the greatest Soul singers of all time. This album clips along with nothing but passion behind it. No song is wasted on Otis and the band backing him.

The pace, the horns, the voice: They're all so close to perfect! It's a slow but steady and energetic blues walk through songs both familiar and not. I suppose the ones I didn't know had better become known: This deserves its classic status with every cut.
This is pretty cool, just that oldies-style blues stuff. But like heaps of music with this writing/production etc, it's also that bit too dated for me to honestly rate it in 2021. 3/5?
