It's pretty good but I didn't realize that his style could get tiresome.
I love Otis Redding but it’s hard to justify an album full of cover songs a good rating.
I like Otis Redding, but an album of covers and ok originals doesn't cut it for this list. 2/5.

I don’t really enjoy hearing classics for the sake of learning. You can hear the foundation for what comes later, but it’s not super compelling today.
Too many covers for me to rate it highly. I'm sure this was very influential when it was released but to me it was just alright

Decent renditions of soul songs but doesn't seem like Redding's best work? Also just not my favorite genre (I've heard Respect and My Girl too many times in life).
I wanted to like it, but kinda didn’t.
Surprised by satisfaction, which is originally created by rolling stones. Soul and Rock are actually in same age.

This is one that I actually have on vinyl, but Otis Redding's stuff generally isn't in my rotation often enough. A great impetus to listening to this album. There's a lot of great songs on here, mostly covers. While he does a great job with them this does leave me wanting more. 2/5

Otis does have a great voice for soul, if this music was my thing I think he'd be a favourite. That said, an album of covers is a pretty weak inclusion in the list, didn't think he really added much to them except his voice and singing off the beat (which got in my nerves). It passed by nicely but not really for me.

The music itself wasn't bad, I just wasn't necessarily a fan of the delivery. It sounded too often like he was constipated and pushing too hard. Overall an ok album. 2.5/5

This is just a cover album and I'm not sure it improves upon any of the original. In fact, they seem like paired down, lowfi versions.

I like Otis, I really do. But all the covers I recognized were just worse versions of the originals...

I can already tell by this first track that i’m gonna like this album waaaay more than the previous one. this song was bearable for me but probs won’t listen to it again. 2. omg I always thought Aretha Franklin’s version of “RESPECT” was the original! this version is cool too though 3. oh man I love this track. so much soulll in Otis’ voice! deffs adding track 3 to my playlist! 4. good song - won’t listen to it again though lmao 5. aw the lyrics for this track really resonate with me right now! You can hear the anguish in his voice. 6. I love the vibe of this track!! very 60s 7. I still prefer the Temptations version of “My Girl” but I could honestly still listen to this version bc this song is just catchy and cute. 8. oooo I really like Sam Coke’s version of this track but I actually might add this one to my playlist as well! v cute 9. I don’t really like blues like that so not that interested in this song tbh. 10. um yeah that was okay. 11. oh yeah I like this songgg. so soulful and I think a beautiful way to end off the album overall, it was okay! better than the last album i had. i would listen to a few of these tracks again but yeah.
Love the calmer and more emotional songs on here. Not my kind of genre though. Favorite track: "I've Been Loving You Too Long"

Too Bland. Not my kind of jam, but the solo in Wonderful World was good. As a brass player I admire the trumpet high notes.

I always feel like a douchebag when I give one of these albums by a smooth gentleman a low score, but I just don't enjoy this kind of music.

Third studio album released in 1965. Mainly soul covers. Pleasant overall, but nothing jumps out at all.
One of the most beautiful voices that keeps underwhelming me - it might be that the music he's covering has aged or maybe I just don't get Soul. The band is playing truly in the background which doesn't help me.

Otis Redding is good. Soul is good. These are soul classics but none of them as good as their originals, so it's all just a bit average. Nice but doesn't deserve more than a 2/5 because it doesn't improve things.

Otis can definitely sing, but this album feels far from essential listening. Is there a single song here where it's the superior version? Aretha owns the lone original song here. Kinda gets a little boring in places too. This is probably fun for fans of Otis Redding but no one else really needs this. Why was this included?

Soul karaoke, anyone? I’ll have another glass of Hennessey, please. Despite the obvious fact of Otis Redding’s passionate vocals and the streamlined, workingman’s backing band, Booker T. & the M.G.s, the sonorous tones of the Memphis Horns, and none other than Isaac Hayes on the piano, I was left underwhelmed. Of the 8 of 10 songs covered on 'Otis Blue,' I much prefer the originals from Aretha Franklin and Sam Cooke and B.B. King and the Temptations. The exception being Solomon Burke’s ‘Down In The Valley,’ which Otis really funked up in a good way. The two songs attributed to Otis Redding’s pen were two of the best on this LP: the opening track, ‘Ole Man Trouble,’ with a great little guitar part (an unusual chord choice or variant?) played by Steve Cropper, and ‘I’ve Been Lovin’ You Too long.’ The real surprise for me was the closer, ‘Satisfaction,’ (yes, that one that you can’t none of.) I was kinda dreading it because it’s one of my lesser favorite and terribly overplayed Rolling Stones’ numbers. But I ended up liking it better than the Stones’ original. Otis really gave it a soul counter to the Stones’ more rock version. Wonder what Otis could do with some of their other, funkier songs? He could have (probably should have) replaced Mick Jagger for the entire 'Black And Blue' LP, and it would’ve worked much better. Mick can keep singing the real rockers like ‘Gimme Shelter,’ and ‘Bitch,’ and let’s give Otis stuff like ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want,’ and all those wonderful gospel numbers on 'Exile On Main Street.' Tag team vocals. This might have seemed like a groovy idea in the mid-sixties (including that ridiculous cover with the same young, blonde haired Cali woman who was every advertiser’s dream back then), and it sure put Otis on the charts. Unfortunately,' Otis Blue' just put me to sleep. Just a quick nod halfway through ‘Wonderful World.’ And when I awoke from this brief respite, it was with a vision: Jim Nabors covering today’s charting pop singles: 'Gomer’s Pyle: Jim Nabors Sings Pop.'

Good stuff, I recognized a lot of songs he covered, and I was surprised that "Respect" was his original song.
An album full of covers that are nowhere close to enhancing the originals. His voice is kinda annoying and the horns on satisfaction are deflating and laborious. Why is this a must hear album?

Eh. Primarily covers (although ironically the original version of Respect) that really neither add to nor improve upon the originals. Ad-lib vocals become more annoying and incomprehensible as the album goes on. And I can appreciate that this wasn't remastered and understand that mixing was different in the 60s but some of the highs on the vocals and horns (esp My Girl) were headache inducing.

Lyrics are quite boring while having music feeling disconnected to the actual lyrics of the song. Not to mention the music itself being quite boring being extremely repetitive. Additionally, the music doesn't really say anything. YAWN BOORRRING 1/5

Otis Redding is great, but "collectors' editions" make terrible albums with the same song four times. These tracks also include covers of songs that made his peers famous, and less of what makes him special.

1i dont really like it because it feels like his voice just keeps caracking and the lyrics i couldt not really understand the second one i give a 1 because it just isnt my type of music the third one i give a 1 becuase the sounds in the backround makes me barley be able to hear the lyics in the backround
The longer I listen to this album, the more I hate it.
Before listening to this album, I felt like I enjoyed Otis Redding. I may have been too optimistic listening to it, but this album felt short and I felt like many of the songs that I enjoy are on other albums.
