Reviews (page 13 of 13)

This is just a cover album. This doesn't mean it's not a bad album, it's just not original. Thus it gets less stars.

Change gonna come, I’ve been loving you too long, You don’t miss your water. Good soulful love songs, nothing warranting a skip but also not something I’d be driven to put on.

Half of this album is sang better by someone else, originaly or as a cover. Another half failed to blow my mind either. I don't much appreciate this manner of singing, so, no surprises.

Me dio un poco igual

A voz dele é linda e a instrumentalização é boa, mas o álbum em si é monótono. Quando o ouvi, ele passou como um sopro, e me deixou levíssimas impressões. Facilmente esquecível. 2.5

Been a good while since I last listened to a true oldie. Glad to finally have another. Okay, it’s only been 9 albums since the last 60s one, but way longer in the time before then. I’m glad I can kick my feet back and listen to some good, non-demanding chunez for a change. Like virtually every other artist from this decade I have no idea who Otis Redding is or why his picture on the album cover is making me feel some kinda way, but I guess I’ll figure it out for myself. Soul isn’t my thing and continues to not be my thing now that this album is behind me. None of these songs are interesting, which is more than likely owed to the overwhelming presence of cover songs. The Redding originals are the weakest of the album, doing absolutely nothing to hold my attention. In any case, there are some alright cuts on this album. “Change Gonna Come” and “Wonderful World” are listenable all the way through. That one guitar lick from “Down in the Valley” more than likely justifies this album with how pervasive it has been within pop music, but nevertheless I’m curious to know why it’s on here. I’m checking the book. “...a lush sound throughout.” Intense, emotional vocals. Okay, so it turns out that Down in the Valley is yet another cover and the iconic guitar lick is from “Love Is Strange” by Mickey & Sylvia. Still, despite not being my thing or doing anything particularly interesting, I support this album being on the list. I’m pretty sure the only other soul album I’ve listened to is Al Green’s Let’s be Together, so there’s definitely a lack of representation for this genre. Wikipedia also says that this is one of the most acclaimed soul albums of the time, so I get the impression that this is a solid soul rep.

That was a bit of a flash in the pan album, only lasted for 33 minutes. I don't know, certainly not as good as a full temptations album.

Soûlé par le Soul

Classic Otis Redding. Somewhat impressive and somewhat bland. So influential it has become passe. There's interesting passes here, but a majority of the album falls flat today.

Great musicians, excellent blues singer so I’m not sure why it does nothing for me. I’m not a blues fan so that’s part of it, but I’m a huge fan of melody which I find lacking. Songs like Rocking Baby and You Don’t Miss Your Water (he really wants water!) bored me crazy, waiting for the song to end.

Great collection of covers, plus a few originals, by probably the greatest soul singer to ever live. An exploration of then-contemporary ballads and blues tracks that are given new life by Redding’s unreal vocals, supported by an incredibly tight Booker T. & the M.G.’s. Many of the tracks were written by Sam Cooke, and this album serves as a sort of tribute to the legendary singer, songwriter, and activist. Fav track: A Change Is Gonna Come

Songs I know but not my style

I was not impressed. I think I enjoyed the last Otis album, but maybe I'm in a headspace that is less forgiving today. This was really kinda was a chore to get thru.

I like this album because I feel like the instruments compliment the singer's voice, although I do not like the slow pace.

Why are there two names for this album? I didn't like "I've Been Loving You Too Long to Stop Now" that much. It was too slow for my liking. I generally like more upbeat pop music than slow soul music. "Respect" is a lot more upbeat than "I've Been Loving You Too Long to Stop Now" but I still didn't like it. The instrumentation in the backround sounds weird to me. "Satisfaction" was my favorite out of all three songs but it was just okay. I think the music itself was fine but I just don't like this kind of music. I would rate this album 2.5 starts out of ten because I didn't like it that much. Overall I wouldn't reccommend this album to people because it's not that good.

Not for me. I get it, just isn't my jam.

I got to Otis Redding too late - love his songs, but prefer the covers done by others! This album annoyed me as it just didn’t sound quite right all the way through.

I don’t have a lot of use for this album, honestly.

Э. Лучшая песня - I've Been Loving You Too Long.

A bunch of great songs done a lot better by others… which makes it pretty useless. I can tell that it was recorded in a day. Not much thought about how to make the covers better or materiallt different, just slightly worse

Jeg trodde Satisfaction var en original Benny Benassi låt!!

1. You don't miss your water 2. Iv've been loving you too long 3. My girl

Otis live at Monterey on video was excellent, but I have always felt that as a recording artist he gets higher critics’ love than he deserves because he died young. This was pretty meh for me.

very technically skilled singer. reminds me too much of easy listening radio

Although I recognise why people like Redding, unfortunately, I don’t like his style. I find his singing and the RnB music a bit boring.

Not terrible, but there are better versions of most of these songs

I love Otis and his influence on most of the music I listen to, but I felt a bit bored throughout this album. The songs picked up for me in the end with My Girl and Satisfaction. I think I enjoy listening to his individual classics like Sitting on the Dock, Try a Little Tenderness, and Cigarettes and Coffee rather than sitting through a full album.

A little whiny tbh

i liked I've been loving you too long , my girl, Wonderful World.

A group of songs that don't really make you wonder why you know other versions better. This is unfortunately even the case for Respect, an original to this album.

Music to fall asleep to. But I'm not a fan of sleeping with music on, it seeps inside the dream and mutes every character scaring me into thinking I'm losing hearing

can't even remember caring about a song but at least it was forgettable

Ok I think I'm missing something. How is that considered one of the greatest albums of all time? For starters it's almost entirely an album of covers, which should exclude it from the list nevermind the conversation of greatest of all time. It was fairly mid, some covers worked well some didn't. I'd say 3* average music wise, moving down to 2 for lack of original songs.

This album is over 2 hours. I didn’t even get through half of it, but I’ve heard better from Otis Redding and way better in Soul

Not my cup of tea, but a great voice.

A soulful and timeless voice. Not really much I would choose to listen to again, but I decently enjoyed it while it was on

How many different versions of the same songs can we fit in one album? It's kind of interesting listening to Otis Redding covering all of these classic songs, but he doesn't do any of them better than the original...

Aside from My Girl every song sounds the same

Ballads droned on a bit. Preferred the upbeat stuff

This album made me realize i don’t like trumpets very much.

# 275 : DID NOT LISTEN - Couldn't be bothered…

Good vocals and performance, however I don't get anything out of this type of music. 2/5

Unnecessary

Otis has such a strong and distinctive voice. I read he recorded most of this album over a 24 hour period - maybe it’s me, but I can see that. Despite that - this is a quality album. He put his own stamp on some classic songs.

Good : ole man trouble, Bad:: boring Boring no enjoyment here

It’s a covers album. Not bad, but I prefer the original versions of most songs compiled here. Otis’s voice is incredible, but something about the sound just didn’t land with me.

This was probably shocking and exciting when it came out. Now, it just feels like sitting in a diner ordering something greasy.

Little too much soul.

Its ok but not incredible

1. trouble - 1 2. rezpect - 0 3. a change - 1.5 4. valley - 1.5 5. too long - 1 6. zhake - 0 7. my girl - 1 8. uuorld - 1 9. rock me baby - 1.5 10. no zatizfaction - 0 11. uuater - 1.5

It's pretty good but I didn't realize that his style could get tiresome.

I love Otis Redding but it’s hard to justify an album full of cover songs a good rating.

I like Otis Redding, but an album of covers and ok originals doesn't cut it for this list. 2/5.

Otis has a nice voice, it was nothing super special to me

It was okay

I don’t really enjoy hearing classics for the sake of learning. You can hear the foundation for what comes later, but it’s not super compelling today.

Too many covers for me to rate it highly. I'm sure this was very influential when it was released but to me it was just alright

I didn’t really enjoy this, it’s not for me. I don’t like the many covers he does near as much as the originals. Listens: 1 Fave Track: Ole Man Trouble

Decent renditions of soul songs but doesn't seem like Redding's best work? Also just not my favorite genre (I've heard Respect and My Girl too many times in life).

I wanted to like it, but kinda didn’t.

Surprised by satisfaction, which is originally created by rolling stones. Soul and Rock are actually in same age.

Ihan jeess 2/5

This is one that I actually have on vinyl, but Otis Redding's stuff generally isn't in my rotation often enough. A great impetus to listening to this album. There's a lot of great songs on here, mostly covers. While he does a great job with them this does leave me wanting more. 2/5

Not my vibe haha

meh, not terrible but not my favorite. 4/10

Otis does have a great voice for soul, if this music was my thing I think he'd be a favourite. That said, an album of covers is a pretty weak inclusion in the list, didn't think he really added much to them except his voice and singing off the beat (which got in my nerves). It passed by nicely but not really for me.

Great voice, but not really my thing and not sure an album of covers should be here?

This was niceish but I accidentally listened to it 3 or 4 times and still nothing quite positive stood out to me

This was just alright nothing to write home about.

The music itself wasn't bad, I just wasn't necessarily a fan of the delivery. It sounded too often like he was constipated and pushing too hard. Overall an ok album. 2.5/5

SOUL but kinda of lacking, just made me want to listen smth else he'd done

This is just a cover album and I'm not sure it improves upon any of the original. In fact, they seem like paired down, lowfi versions.

muita musica paizão

I like Otis, I really do. But all the covers I recognized were just worse versions of the originals...

1. I can already tell by this first track that i’m gonna like this album waaaay more than the previous one. this song was bearable for me but probs won’t listen to it again. 2. omg I always thought Aretha Franklin’s version of “RESPECT” was the original! this version is cool too though 3. oh man I love this track. so much soulll in Otis’ voice! deffs adding track 3 to my playlist! 4. good song - won’t listen to it again though lmao 5. aw the lyrics for this track really resonate with me right now! You can hear the anguish in his voice. 6. I love the vibe of this track!! very 60s 7. I still prefer the Temptations version of “My Girl” but I could honestly still listen to this version bc this song is just catchy and cute. 8. oooo I really like Sam Coke’s version of this track but I actually might add this one to my playlist as well! v cute 9. I don’t really like blues like that so not that interested in this song tbh. 10. um yeah that was okay. 11. oh yeah I like this songgg. so soulful and I think a beautiful way to end off the album overall, it was okay! better than the last album i had. i would listen to a few of these tracks again but yeah.

Love the calmer and more emotional songs on here. Not my kind of genre though. Favorite track: "I've Been Loving You Too Long"

it's alright. unfortunately not my vibe :( i can imagine someone who loves this genre to definitely fall in love with these songs though!

Kinda like the feelings in the album but definitely not my style

Not my cup of tea

too jazzy :P

It’s ok

Too Bland. Not my kind of jam, but the solo in Wonderful World was good. As a brass player I admire the trumpet high notes.

Not a massive fan. A change is gonna come is a good song.

I always feel like a douchebag when I give one of these albums by a smooth gentleman a low score, but I just don't enjoy this kind of music.

Vallan tasaista suorittamista, sanoisin. Tulkintaa on, mutta tunteen palo jää aika vähäiseksi mun korvaani. Vahvimmatkaa biisit eivät saa ihan kaikkea voimaa, jota niissä voisi olla. Kuulostaa vain hyvältä.

Third studio album released in 1965. Mainly soul covers. Pleasant overall, but nothing jumps out at all.

One of the most beautiful voices that keeps underwhelming me - it might be that the music he's covering has aged or maybe I just don't get Soul. The band is playing truly in the background which doesn't help me.

not diggin it today

I think I must have no soul. I can appreciate his voice but it does nothing for me and I find it quite dull.

A change is gonna come- tem uma progressão interessante no final, vale a pena voltar pra ver, talvez... My Girl - é bom, mas sei la, não gosto do estilo da música desse brother ai. I Can't Get No - é triste You Don't Miss Your Water - odiei horrível

Eh, why is he rehashing others songs?

- Nice chill vibes - A little boring, not something I'd go back to at all - Favorite songs: (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

Otis Redding is good. Soul is good. These are soul classics but none of them as good as their originals, so it's all just a bit average. Nice but doesn't deserve more than a 2/5 because it doesn't improve things.

Didn't finish but pretty old vibes (too old) - interesting to see songs I didn't know he did originally though

Not really my cup of tea

Soul is genre of music I don't really listen too. I wish I could give this album 2.5 stars because it was better that the previous ones but overall does not reach the 3 star mark. 1. My Girl 2. Shake 3. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

Overall 3/10

Idk why but I wasn't feeling this one much. Also it's almost all covers, which aren't quite as good as their originals. I can see why people would like it though

Otis can definitely sing, but this album feels far from essential listening. Is there a single song here where it's the superior version? Aretha owns the lone original song here. Kinda gets a little boring in places too. This is probably fun for fans of Otis Redding but no one else really needs this. Why was this included?

A singer that fails to move me performs music of a genre that fails to move me.

Très bien , mais aucun titre qui sort du lot bizarrement Agréable de tomber dessus mais j'irai pas me le mettre de moi même ( that's what she said)

Soul karaoke, anyone? I’ll have another glass of Hennessey, please. Despite the obvious fact of Otis Redding’s passionate vocals and the streamlined, workingman’s backing band, Booker T. & the M.G.s, the sonorous tones of the Memphis Horns, and none other than Isaac Hayes on the piano, I was left underwhelmed. Of the 8 of 10 songs covered on 'Otis Blue,' I much prefer the originals from Aretha Franklin and Sam Cooke and B.B. King and the Temptations. The exception being Solomon Burke’s ‘Down In The Valley,’ which Otis really funked up in a good way. The two songs attributed to Otis Redding’s pen were two of the best on this LP: the opening track, ‘Ole Man Trouble,’ with a great little guitar part (an unusual chord choice or variant?) played by Steve Cropper, and ‘I’ve Been Lovin’ You Too long.’ The real surprise for me was the closer, ‘Satisfaction,’ (yes, that one that you can’t none of.) I was kinda dreading it because it’s one of my lesser favorite and terribly overplayed Rolling Stones’ numbers. But I ended up liking it better than the Stones’ original. Otis really gave it a soul counter to the Stones’ more rock version. Wonder what Otis could do with some of their other, funkier songs? He could have (probably should have) replaced Mick Jagger for the entire 'Black And Blue' LP, and it would’ve worked much better. Mick can keep singing the real rockers like ‘Gimme Shelter,’ and ‘Bitch,’ and let’s give Otis stuff like ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want,’ and all those wonderful gospel numbers on 'Exile On Main Street.' Tag team vocals. This might have seemed like a groovy idea in the mid-sixties (including that ridiculous cover with the same young, blonde haired Cali woman who was every advertiser’s dream back then), and it sure put Otis on the charts. Unfortunately,' Otis Blue' just put me to sleep. Just a quick nod halfway through ‘Wonderful World.’ And when I awoke from this brief respite, it was with a vision: Jim Nabors covering today’s charting pop singles: 'Gomer’s Pyle: Jim Nabors Sings Pop.'

Wie so oft: die langsamen Nummern haben mich, der Rest: höre ich fast weg. 2.3

Good stuff, I recognized a lot of songs he covered, and I was surprised that "Respect" was his original song.

An album full of covers that are nowhere close to enhancing the originals. His voice is kinda annoying and the horns on satisfaction are deflating and laborious. Why is this a must hear album?

Covers of existing popular songs, looking for originals

definitely not my style but I appreciate it for what it is

Eh. Primarily covers (although ironically the original version of Respect) that really neither add to nor improve upon the originals. Ad-lib vocals become more annoying and incomprehensible as the album goes on. And I can appreciate that this wasn't remastered and understand that mixing was different in the 60s but some of the highs on the vocals and horns (esp My Girl) were headache inducing.

Feels more like a collection of songs rather than a complete album

Not my bag.

Have a massive aversion to cover albums but it did make me want to listen more to someone I've never really looked into before, so a success of sorts

Iconic voice. Blues singing covers. It's okay but probably wouldn't seek it out to listen to it again.

Listened to half of it and lost interest

Not gonna lie, this is not my thing. Sounds like christmas music in american movies.

Not into soul music at all

no es mi estilo

Um bom album, porém muito longo e que acaba se perdendo entre tantas musicas, talvez o album sem esse remastered seja um ótimo album

Why is the woman on the cover not singing or maybe she is

not my cup of tea tbh

👎🏻

Just no

блин вообще не мое вайбово такое слышать в фильмах, но чисто как вот музыку прослушивать я не могу

hmm just no

Lyrics are quite boring while having music feeling disconnected to the actual lyrics of the song. Not to mention the music itself being quite boring being extremely repetitive. Additionally, the music doesn't really say anything. YAWN BOORRRING 1/5

Very old and country-ish style. Didn’t quite enjoy it

Faixa favorita: nenhuma

not for me

Just a bad batch of songs with no concept and nothing to latch on to. 0/10

Otis Redding is great, but "collectors' editions" make terrible albums with the same song four times. These tracks also include covers of songs that made his peers famous, and less of what makes him special.

obviously sounds great but not my bag.

1i dont really like it because it feels like his voice just keeps caracking and the lyrics i couldt not really understand the second one i give a 1 because it just isnt my type of music the third one i give a 1 becuase the sounds in the backround makes me barley be able to hear the lyics in the backround

The longer I listen to this album, the more I hate it.

Before listening to this album, I felt like I enjoyed Otis Redding. I may have been too optimistic listening to it, but this album felt short and I felt like many of the songs that I enjoy are on other albums.

I just didn’t like it that’s all, 1/5

My girl was great

Not my thing

Kedelige covers

Ya saben lo que pasa cuando se meten con sus satánicas.

pretty good. no skips
