Reviews (page 14 of 14)

Not for me this one.

Got spacked out of me heed to this!

It sounds like I'm sat in Spanish class learning about the days of the week. And then I'm sat in a bar trying to get into it, being all cultural, but just a bit gash

nice, but not something i'd be in a hurry to go back to. i mind when it came out and it was refreshingly different but now it's a lot easier to find stuff like this...if you wanted to!

Maybe with the companion film it becomes more interesting....

Niet echt mijn genre

Not something I would've ever listened to. Not bad, but probably won't listen to again.

Wasn't feeling it, probably good though

I would rather drink Cuba Cola!

not a bad album, but no songs stood out individually as fantastic. Would be a good album to put on as background noise while cooking

Theres nothing inherently wrong with the album, its just not my cup of tea.

Not in English. Did not listen.

Latin album

Easy listening mix of salsa and jazz

NOTA: 4 MUSICAS FAVS: PUEBLO NUEVO, Ay Ta Que Has Hecho, Amor de La Loca Juventud, Murmullo, Buena Vista Social Club

Day 25 — Buena Vista Social Club — Buena Vista Social Club (1997) Listened: Mar 25–27, 2026 Genre: Cuban Son / Bolero / Afro-Cuban / World Music Vibe: Warm, nostalgic Cuban son and bolero — elderly masters playing timeless Havana street music with effortless charm Highlights: • Chan Chan Impression: Couldn’t connect with it despite the warmth and charm. The language barrier and unfamiliar genre kept it from landing. Chan Chan was the clear standout. Rating: 1.4/5 Keep songs? Yes Revisit album? Likely not

Nkt for m

cool instruments, even though thats totally not the type of music i usually listen to it was nice to explore some new sounds (but i didnt listen to the whole album)

it wasnt bad but i cant seem to enjoy it or wanting to listen to this album ever again. every art is beautiful in their own way and this art just didnt seem to be the vibe i like or enjoy.

Feels very nostalgic. Very peaceful, I really love the guitar. Fav song is ‘El Cuarto de Tula’.

God no

I recognized this name for some reason, but didn't know anything about them, nor any of the songs. I have heard the name Ry Cooder before but not exactly sure why. So this was pretty much a walking in blind kind of thing. I had a hard time getting into this. It's kind of fun for a bit - but just get's tiring after a while. I started zoning out while listening. I think I just don't know enough about this kind of music to really appreciate it - after awhile it just all sounds the same to me. The most exposure I've ever had to Cuban music, is from Rocky Ricardo's band on I Love Lucy. It seems like it hasn't changed in a long time. I ended up liking the 2 instrumentals - "Pueblo Nuevo" and "Buena Vista Social Club". Liked songs on Spotify: 2/14 Rating: 1/5

I got a little bored, sorry! Not a big acoustic girl. Faves in album order: Chan Chan Dos Gardenias Buena Vista Social Club

pretty forgettable album. not really my kind of music. although I do like bosa nova and salsa music, this just didn't hit that pocket in my opinion.

Cuban elevator music

At very first listen, I'm not into it. But we shall see. I'm on song 3, which feels like song 10000. I can't wait for this album to be done lol. Wasn't my cup of tea. It was relaxing at times, but most times it wasn't music I would listen to.

A few good songs first one is iconic

Not quite my cup of tea

not my vibe at all sorry

Not for me, sorry.

This band was the name to drop in the middle to late 90s. This album has no real centre to it though and is made purely as background music. Nothing else

Everything sounded like restaurant background music. It was chill music, but because of that mental association, not in any way an album that touched any of my tastes. Was ready to be over right away

Honestly, the album left me cold. It basically sounds like the music Desi Arnaz and his orchestra played on I Love Lucy in the 1950s.

Nice little vibe to it at times but a bit boring and wouldn’t go back and listen again.

Managed the first 8 and quit. not sure when one finished and the other started. Nice Spanish south American vibes but very very repetitive.

I did not like this. It was not for me.

Reminds me of working in Starbucks. Pretty sure they actually had this cd

Der Erfolg in allen Ehren, aber das ist das lateinamerikanische Pendant zur Volksmusik. Und auch ungefähr genauso spannend...

I gave it a go, I really did. But somewhere along the line, my ears quietly packed their bags and left the room. The musicianship? Impeccable. The vibe? Sunny and nostalgic. Me? Checking how many tracks were left like I was stuck in a salsa-themed escape room.

Not my cup of tea and I've been to Cuba too.

Two songs is all I could endure. Not for me.

One of the most overrated albums of all time.

I am not on holiday, nor am I having a meal out, so I did not enjoy this.

It sounded good but not to my taste

No está logrando que me interese escucharlo Creo que el de manu chao puso la vara alta en este estilo

Interesting pick.

Couldn’t do it. Spanish

Probably eye-opening in 1997. Really boring in 2025.

Another mystery appears before me. Materializing out of the ether as I wearily attempt to ignore my phone. No avail to be reached as I lunge at the device for the chemicals I can no longer reliably produce without this empty stimuli. Thankfully we’ve chosen this path instead of automated industries with equitable sharing of the resources reaped from this revolutionary technology. I’m much happier with my dollar not going far and AI music advancing faster than cures for disease. At least billionaires continue to produce more proverbial dust to smother the workforce in. Look on the bright side; at least I can temporarily dissociate to the sultry tones of today’s horrible album. Listened to on a platform that funds AI warfare technologies. If you’re not catatonic, join me for this trip south of the border. Which border? Great question. Chan Chan - WORLD music?? Everybody calm down. It’s a Simpsons quote. I suppose I do need to qualify statements like that in the post-satire hellscape we have mired ourselves in. This is actually not bad. A solid opener. De Camino a la Vereda - This is immensely repetitive and annoying. Perhaps apart from the bizarre stabs of uhh “horror movie piano” around the 3 minute mark. El Cuarto de Tula - This has to be in the Tropico soundtrack. Ah it’s Cuban. Maybe my rant at the start was more relevant than I thought. Well. More music here. This is not a genre I care about. The song is fine. Or at least it would be, if it was under 7 minutes and didn’t repeat the same refrain 374 times. Capable playing, boring ideas. Pueblo Novo - I know zero Spanish. Thanks a lot grade 10 Spanish class in western Canada. At least I’ve seen that one peanuts Christmas special “en Español.” Oh and I also know the South American countries like the back of my hand. Probably better, as I can’t for the life of me picture one feature of the back of my hands without immediate visual aid. This is almost decent jazz, but it is incredibly simple and ultimately kind of lacklustre. Dos Gardenias - What the hell do you need with 12 gardens??? Oh it’s two? Same bloody question. These guys are outta control. Is it a different thing? I could easily translate this, but as a North American , it’s my duty to pretend it’s akin to the Dead Sea scrolls. ¿Y Tú Qué Has Hecho? - We’ve reached the bad singing part of the album. You know what I’ve always admired about Spanish though? The upside down question mark. You know how to read that fucker right from the start. Lay it out clean. I like that. This song? Dumpster. The question syntax? Two thumbs up. Veinte Años - It autocorrected Veinte to “Cringe,” so not a good omen for the song, and a truce indictment of my vocabulary. This was nothing. El Carretero - ugghhhh I don’t care. Candela - This has to be the same song. I find not being able to understand the lyrics at all great detracts from my enjoyment. Amor de Loca Juventud - Juvie? Part of the Mexicools with Suoer Crazy and Psicosis? Probably the most blatant disregarding of talent and pigeonholing based on race in WWF/WWE history. Think of the territory that takes in. Anyway. I have to keep myself entertained somehow. This is endless. We are out of ideas. Orgulleceda - alright. The song did NOT change. Holy HELL 4 more songs??? Murmullo - Armadillo competitor. Perhaps more thoughtful. Someone saying armadillo whilst experiencing TIA symptoms. Throwing some stuff at the wall here to see what sticks. Let me know if there are some humdingers in here. Buena Vista Social Club - The rare triple crown title. Cannot compare quality wise to Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath off of Black Sabbath. Or even Deicide x3. But here we are. Revelling in irrelevant garbage to numb the pain of mediocre piano jazz set to a click track. La Bayamesa - Reading the story of this album makes me feel happy that they got to release this. Hey, you’ve got a bunch of local musicians who never really made a stamp worldwide and now you’ve got a hit that transcends cultures. That’s cool. I am not in the target demographic for this. I hate this sound, I hate not being able to understand the language, and I hate how bloody long this felt. Are all of these issues my problem? Yes, but I suppose that’s why they inform my opinion. I hated this. I wanted it to end after track two. Maybe partway through. These people are competent players and clearly passionate, but if I never hear a song in this genre again, I shall learn Spanish and go on a cultural pilgrimage to Havana, in thanks of my new gift. Adios, BVSC. 1 HIGHLIGHTS: You can really learn a lot about a flock by watching each second bleed away.

Zuhause, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Ohren am Bluten.

Subba Album. La cucaracha.

Not my thing

This one wasn't for me. Not my taste.

Happy Cinco de Mayo.

One star because I'm bored by this. This is Carribean resort hotel lobby music. I also don't understand what makes some "ethnic music" cool and relevant but not others. This list has Cuban and other Carribean music, music from South America , and from Africa, and reggae. But no J-Rock? No Polka? No Mongolian throat singing?

It just wasn't my vibe.

Sorry but when I can’t understand music it’s harder to enjoy. Sounded nice at times but nothing I’m coming back to

Not for me

Hell no

Not for me

Couldn't finish

0/10, говно

Made myself get through the first track and I couldn't get any further

Good vibes for background music, wouldn't be an album of my choice though.

Musically good but not my thing at all

The only thing I have in common with this album is I once had a Che Guevara T-Shirt.

Traditional, world music, jazz, fado, male, mid, repetetive, boring. Old men making sad music with basic instruments. Can remember when it was in the charts back in the 90s and I did not like it there... not sure if i change my mind again in 30 years.

Awful, boring and repetitive

Cuban music. Not my cup of tea

I'm not Hispanic!

Not bad but not for me

p808. 1997. 1.5 stars. Well done but... average. Boring. Bland. Who picked this for the list?

That’s an hour of my life that I will never get back. One star

The most overrated album in the world....

mexikaniscjer Mönneegesang mit Gitarrengeklimper. War irgendwie mal erfolgreich

Boring background noise.

Not my cup of tea

call me judgmental but wtf is this lmfao

Had to listen in 4 parts because I was so bored. Failed to grip me I’m afraid.

durmiente residente

Prefer English lyrics

Can’t speak Spanish! Why would I listen to this

Not a fan

Not my style

I'm sure it's nice if you're Spanish

no bueno

Big yikes. A few fun mariachi moments, and fairly competent jazz, but I really can't enjoy it - did not finish.

Traditionel cubansk musik, afslappende

Musically good, but it’s easy to lose engagement since I don’t speak the language.

This reminds me of the background music in a romantic comedy movie were they see each other from across the room...

Loving it! Makes me dance - 5 stars

Sounds even better than it did in 1997. Better stereo now :)
