Ray Of Light
MadonnaSurprisingly liked this. Waay more than I was expecting.
Surprisingly liked this. Waay more than I was expecting.
Not being on spotify might have effected the ratings some having to listen to YouTube commercials in between each track... But I also wasn't really getting that into the groove with each track. Maybe it was the mixing, but just wasn't really digging it.
This fucking sucked.
This whole thing is amazing. I usually skip any bonus tracks, but I was even hooked on those.
Not bad, but not my vibe. There's better S&G albums imo. Maybe if I gave it a few more listens it'd've stuck, but yeah... Just felt whatever on it.
Haven't listened to it in years, so it was kinda fun going back to it. Each track felt a bit too similar, but overall the album is solid.
This was a fun one. I've heard most of these songs before, but never together in the context of the full album. Loved it.
Always love hearing my hometown getting bashed in a Johnny Cash song.
Solid album
In the context of albums to listen to before you die, this one just doesn't hold up at being significant enough to count. Decent generic 90s rock otherwise.
Yes, this is 100% an album you must listen to before you die. Love Daft Punk, so this one is always a treat.
Full of random songs I've heard before, but never listened to the album. Turns out it's amazing & there's a reason it's always being brought up & mentioned. Albums like this is what's making me really enjoy this challenge.
Not a bad album really. I just was super into the last album I got on here & this one was a bit of a tone shift from the last. Wasn't in the mood, but I get why it made the list. Could easily be a 4/5 on a different day.
Classic rock classic
Easily one of the best albums of all time.
Would've been a 5 till it got to 10 minutes of him talking lol Great album, just the long extended story at the start of the last track throws the whole thing off.
Pretty fun surprise, didn't think I'd enjoy this as much as I did.
Dang, this whole album just makes me think of her.
Didn't really care for it. Like a few Pixies tracks, but wasn't really feeling it as an album.
Not a bad album actually. But bad timing for nothing but love songs lol
A few classics surrounded by OK filler
Ya like jazz?
Cool album, really dig the psychedelic sound, but I'm not on nearly enough acid to fully enjoy it.
Massive Attack is great, haven't listened to this one in forever.
I've heard all of these songs probably hundreds of times, but never in this order.
Short & sweet.
Aw hell yeah! Got back into this album recently after seeing Beck live. Solid fun album.
Cuatro estrellas!
Pretty cheesy album, but after another listen through, it does have some pretty good messages in it.
I was actually in the mood for reggae, but this album just kinda fell flat to me.
Fuck yeah!
Probably my favorite soad album
The best Beatle put out a solo album. Not surprised by the results.
Although I don't understand everything they are saying, the vocals still speak to my soul. Damn this was good.
Music for sad dads, of which I am neither. 3 for now, but I feel like that could go up after multiple listens.
Eh it was OK. Had a few good stand-out tracks.
Meh Gold Dream.
Felt like I've been put on hold for an hour.
Had some moments, but just couldn't hold on to them.
Enjoyed it, kinda reminded me of something else... Just can't recall...
Easily one of the greatest albums of all time.
Left feeling empowered. Bitches better stay away from my man. Jokes aside, fun album.
Fun fun fun on the autobahn.
Not exactly what I was expecting, but Schools Out is still the best track on the album. Seems kinda soft, mello, & easy going for a shock rock musician. Grande Finale is good too..
Classic rock classic
Easily one of the best albums of all time.
Genre defining
Dreaming of Stevie Wonder now too
King of Pop with some killer tracks.
This shit slaps. Much better than the other Yeah Yeah Yeahs album I got. I'm sure if I kept listening to it, it'd get a 5. Either way, it's getting saved for future listens.
Good industrial fun.
Oh snap, an all time favorite!
Got better with multiple listens, but still mostly prefer the singles I'd already heard.
Relaxing, mellow, chill vibes for my work day. Might have been a 4 if you take out Parade (A Banda). Kinda ruins the flow each time it came on.
Pretty rad stuff. Get it on!
Nice, but not really my thing. Maybe on a different day I'd rate higher...
Classic 60s hit. Good stuff.
Low 3. Kinda liked bits of it, but always felt lacking. No stand out tracks imo
Farts & Boners lol gotem
Great, influential album from an underrated band.
Fun, easy-going, old-school, punk sound without any songs I actually enjoyed.
Oh it's The Exorcists theme... Oh it's actually pretty tight! 1st bit is obviously familiar, then goes off to become much more than just the spooky theme we all know.
Delta Blues!
Decent punk
Really only 3-4 good songs on this one & it's the main songs you've heard.
Had a few solid moments, just had trouble really getting into the album as a whole.
Smooth & mellow & kinda sat in the background like elevator music.
This was a nice album to revisit. Nice collection of songs with a few fun psychedelic freak out moments.
Jail Break & Boys are Back in Town are bangers.
Funky & fun.
1st track: I hate it. 2nd: omg make it stop. 3rd: OK this is a jam. Rest of album: back to being awful. Sorry, the 1 track doesn't save you from 1 star.
Great album with a unique sound. Definitely saving this one for later
Jibbity boo bop. Skibbity itty itty. Antony Keidis just throws out nonsensical lyrics. Funk & fun, but also catchy. Got some killer tracks & got some filla. Boobity boo bah, rigga rigga rilla!
Always liked their radio hits. Turns out everything else is just as good.
Rockin album, not bad at all
Tight electronic album.
A few things I recognized that I never realized was Wings. Great album overall, which is completely expected from Paul.
Mellow, calming, chill. Ella Fitzgerald has an amazing voice & the big band instrumentation is nice.
I love everything from this band. This album in particular is a straight up masterpiece.
Great discovery, really enjoyed this one. Each song is solid, diverse, & stands on its own.
Surprisingly fast album. Really only cared for Shining Star. Everything else felt like cheesy 70s sitcom music.
Has a few nice musical moments, but I absolutely hate the singers voice.
I hate it. Somehow made it through the whole album... It's pure garbage.
Beastie Boys showing off how diverse of a musical space they can occupy. & it all works. Solid album start to finish.
Biased since I don't normally like nor listen to country, but Willie makes it bearable. He's a living legend for a reason. These tracks are nice, mellow, & easy to listen to.
Epic & huge. Metallic at their best, in one of the greatest live albums.
Smooth 70s soul.
Started off with some bangers, but grew disinterested as the album went on.
Hyped to get Liars! Bummed that this is their only album on this list. Either way, super fun, weird, creative, experimental album. Love their work!
A nice surprise, great song writing, & an enjoyable listen.
Bunch of hits that still flow together to make a great album.
Really enjoyed the last Willie album I got, but I'm honestly not feeling a cover album.
Dang, I was expecting to hate this. All killer!
The only Band that can live up to the name 'THE BAND.'
One of the most influential indie rock albums of all time.
Coldplay was knocking out indie bangers before selling out for pop success.
Fun album to get for this, but only really enjoyed a few of the tracks. Personally feeling pretty meh over it.
An explosion of blues-like sounds, only hints of it sounded good. Within the realm of stuff I like, weird, funky, out-there, & creative. Just none of it really came together to make it a listen I'd actually enjoy. 32 tracks... This was a rough listen. Would have rated it much higher if it was trimmed down to a few main tracks, & fleshed out a bit more. The slog had me slowly hating it more & more.
Not bad, really good mixing, & made for an enjoyable few listens.
Classic. Dug her song's I recognized more.
More than just the Shrek song.
Bland. I guess I'm not a fan of Wilco... 2nd album I've gotten with them & just not feeling it.
Amazing album from an amazing artist.
Classic late 60s psych rock. The highs were high, but the lows had me waiting for the next track.
Southern rock at its greatest. All killer, no filler. Every song is a hit for a reason.
Love how his inspirations for this album are some of my all time favorites. What an amazing album to go out on. RIP to such an influential artist.
Not bad, but a lot of the instruments used are painfully 80s in sound. Makes the album feel extremely dated.
It's alright.
Made for a nice relaxing listen. Solid mix African & Blues styles.
Sounds like America.
Remembered enjoying the Rock and Roll Circus back in the day, but never listened to any Stones since. Wasn't really feeling this album. It's not technically bad, just didn't resonate with me. Has a few nice moments though.
Amazing album. Excited to see it come up on this list, I've been needing a re-listen.
I hate Ska. Even the non-Ska songs just annoyed the hell out of me.
Nice solid hip-hop album. Solid bars, nice flows, & chill beats to do work to.
Had a buddy learning bass guitar ruin Blister in the Sun for me. The rest of the album isn't too bad, just nothing much that stands out imo.
Practically a Wu Tang album. & Wu Tang is forever.
Hadn't listened to this one in a while, but a bit more of a fan of their other work.
Fun surprise of an album. Constantly different, with some mellow grooves.
I either absolutely love the song, or just kinda felt whatever. Not a Country fan, but she's got some amazing songs.
It was pretty alright.
Great album with a few covers, making them better than the originals.
It's the Beatles. Funny, my previous album had Cash's cover of In My Life on it.
Didn't really dig it.
Too much talking.
Not really bad, just wasn't personally feeling it. If you're a fan of Latin music, I'm sure it's great.
Ugh. Just gave me flashbacks to working retail, stuck listening to top 40, & not able to change the station.
King of Pop has a few absolute bangers on this one, but also a few tracks that aren't really too great. Ends up being pretty in the middle of the road overall.
Most overrated band of all time. Kiss is like a parody of a hard rock band, but not being hard, rock, or good, but still serious...
High-school me probably would've loved this the when it came out.
Pretty good album with some great sample based production.
Mellow, chill, got a few nice grooves & tunes. Felt like inoffensive background music.
Amazing song writer, with a pretty annoying singing voice. The weird thing is that his voice grows on you as the album goes on.
Just feels kinda cheesy 80s music with groan-worthy edgy lyrics. Morrissey is a dick & all, but separating the artist from the art, his vocals still suck. A few decent melodies can't save this.
It's alright.
Amazing singing voice, but the album starts to sound too samey.
Least favorite album from one of my favorite bands. Haven't listened to it in years & it's much better than I originally remembered. Aged pretty well imo
Uniquely different, creative, & definitely not my thing.
Started to kinda like it, then started to not like it. Their sound starts to get old after a bit.
It's OK, not a huge fan of the New Wave sounding vocals. But The Killing Moon is a classic, so that was nice to hear.
This is a complete slog to get through. It's got some really good jazz, but an hour & a half more than I care to listen, plus you've got to put up with him talking inbetween every song... Ugh, I'm sure it was an amazing live show to be at, but as a live album, it just became a tough listen.
This daily challenge has made me a David Bowie fan, but this one doesn't feel like it's as much of a standout as his other albums. Gets better on re-listen, still good, but if I hadn't've already enjoyed his other stuff, I probably would've rated this a little lower.
Not my thing.
Pretty damn good. Some songs kinda lag on, but there's a few bangers on here. Great voice, great song writing.
Not my go to MBV album, only really listened to it once before, but really enjoyed it this time around. 1st few songs start off slow, but I get completely lost in the dreamy thick distorted soundscapes as the album continues.
Hell yeah dude!
Absolutely hated this album when it 1st came out. Still super tired of hearing the main singles from it, but really the rest of the album is pretty great. The rock opera really works out in it's favor.
Ehhh...
Fun & funky, with a few classics. Good, just not something I could listen to often.
One of the greatest hip hop albums of all time.
This album is ridiculously ahead of its time. Completely timeless. An absolute masterpiece.
I enjoyed it for the most part. But I probably won't be coming back to it in the future.
I think it was OK... I'm sure if I gave it another listen I might've gotten into it more & rated it higher.
Dang, all of these are bops. Super solid 90s rock.
Sounds like generic 90s pop rock, so definitely ahead of its time for coming out in the late 70s.
C'mon, man. I had a rough night & I fuckin' hate the Eagles, man!
Pretty good, full of bops.
This album is practically the soundtrack to a specific part of my life. It's a bit of a bummer the band thought of it as their sellout album. Absolutely love it, even the more out there tracks.
Not really my thing.
Rough, raw, & emotional, but loses me feeling too trapped in the 90s. Has a few nice moments, but none of the tracks really hook me.
Rad & rockin. The track Number of the Beast is still the main stand out to me tho.
I feel like I've grown out of this type of punk.
I feel like Aerosmith went from overrated to underrated. This album wasn't bad, had a few rockin hits, just feel like we all got tired of them in the early 2000s.
Overall not bad, just funky. Happy Man was a jam. This band had waaay more hits than I remembered.
Got a good sound, just felt kinda meh. Lovefool still slaps tho.
Has a few less played bangers. All Along the Watchtower being his only hit is still pretty wild to think about.
Mellow & relaxing with a good flow. Hard to give this one a low rating. Mostly was aware of the Girl from Ipanema, but the rest of the album keeps those relaxing vibes flowing.
Nice hearing something from him other than Brown Eyed Girl. Pretty solid with a few standouts, but has a few samey moments.
OK I guess.
King of Blues. Nice live album overall.
Yes, it's that good.
Not as enjoyable as the other IM album I got. Nothing really stood out to me.
Surprisingly liked this. Waay more than I was expecting.
Fun electronic instrumental album. Has some pretty neat tunes, but does kinda lag on. You start to feel that run time towards the end.
I hated it.
Amazing album, had a few experimental bits I wasn't expecting.
It's whatev. Didn't hate it, just nothing really stood out.
Delta Blues!
Idk, not my thing. Had some OK stuff here & there, but overall I'll probably never think of this album again.
The live prison setting makes this outlaw country classic even better.
All killer, no filler. This album still holds up to this day. Could easily be renamed the best of Nirvana part 1.
Easily one of the best albums of all time.
Only really cared for the songs I've heard. The rest was extremely forgettable.
This fucking sucked.
Just kind of a sad album. The slow fading of a musical genius. It's not really a great album, but there are still hints & moments hidden throughout makes it still worth the listen.
Surprised I enjoyed his vocals, but the album itself is pretty dull. Maybe perfect for dad rock of the day, but extremely forgettable & bland.
This album is stocked full of early millennium nostalgia. A bit front loaded... Pretty much the last half could've been removed, overall bringing it down.
Probably the best unplugged recording ever. Crazy, but this is probably Nirvana's best album.
Not being on spotify might have effected the ratings some having to listen to YouTube commercials in between each track... But I also wasn't really getting that into the groove with each track. Maybe it was the mixing, but just wasn't really digging it.
I hated the 1st track, but it gets better. Some cool punk songs on here, but overall didn't think the album fits in the 1001 albums to listen to before you die...
This album proves that Kendrick is one of the all-time greatest.
Stranger Things already had me burnt out by her 1 song. Then all the Stranger Things fans made me actually kinda hate it. Ended up keeping this album on repeat & it only got better with each listen. Lol so instead of not liking it, I only kinda dig it.
Attempted to listen to this a week ago, was busy, had trouble listening & a few tracks in, kinda hated it. Super behind on my list, decided to start over & knock out this album &... I kinda dig it. Into the Light, Arabian Knights, & Monitor are jams.
It's OK. Not my favorite, but I didn't really dislike it.
Great voice, only halfway cared for the songs I've heard, otherwise I was just waiting for this one to end.
Is this it? It was already I guess...
Not really into it
Pretty much what I expected it to be, Tom Waits with better vocals.
Kinda fun funky groovy jams.
Solid hip-hop / r&b. Had some really nice pieces in it. The rest was OK. Felt very middle of the pack but didn't hate it at all.
The King. Some bangers on here, but a few that could've been left off. Pretty dang good overall.
Kinda boring & dull.
Phenomenal album. Wish he stuck with his 50 states project, but Sufjan has constantly pumped out some extraordinary work since. This will always sit at the top.
🤘🤘🤘
Was digging it at 1st. Teachers Pet was absolutely awful. Then it just started feeling more & more like a bad parody of a metal album.
Even as soft background music I was ready for this to just be over. Sounds like music they'd play in a department store while you're stuck shopping with your mom, & you've been ready to leave for an hour now.
I was excited about this one! Remembered loving them back in the day. I only like "She Wants to Move"
Early Coldplay was absolutely amazing.
Full of nice little folk songs. His vocals eventually grow on you.
Chill, mellow, groovy, but felt neverending...
Such a good album. For 79, this is absurdly ahead of it's time.
Surprised by how much I liked it. Mostly remembered them as like a 2 hit wonder, but this whole album went hard.
Unoffensively okay.
Good, just not a fan of big band.
60s britpop overshadowed by the greats. Alright, just had me in the mood for The Beatles.
Chill, trippy, & made for a really good background listen while at work.
Felt like a Wu Tang album. & Wu Tang is forever.
Really good, amazing voice. Fun hearing his take on some popular covers.
Not that big of a jazz fan.
This fucking sucked.
I... Don't hate this. It's weird & abrasive, but it puts off heavy Ween & Primus vibes. Super cool hearing something so experimental, so ahead of its time that would've influenced (much better imo) bands.
I think I like the idea of Tom Waits more than I actually like his music.
I like Bob Marley & the Wailers. Just didn't feel like I connected with it like I do their other work. Idk, maybe I'd rate it differently on another day.
Title track still slaps. The rest of the album just felt like butt rock style vocals over 80s electronic keyboard.
Cool album art...
Hated it at 1st, but it really grows on you. Pretty solid imo. Would've really been into this when it originally came out & probably would've rated it higher.
Pretty rockin!
A few good classic tracks & the rest is just blues filler with an annoying organ.
After my 3rd Bruce Springsteen album I've come to the conclusion that The Boss's music is pretty lame.
Relaxing & chill. Not a huge jazz fan, but this was pretty nice.
Weird & out there & surprisingly neat. Idk, I should probably give it a 4, but I'm giving it a 3.
Forgettable UK indie sleeze
Fiona Apple is amazing. Fan of a few of her other albums, but have never listened to this one other than the hits.
I dig it. Time of the Season is a classic, & the rest of the tracks are chill & fit in nicely with it.
The other Deep Purple album I had absolutely rocked. This one just felt kinda generic & bland.
This was an absolute delight.
Wasn't feeling it at 1st, but it really grows on you. Strong craving for donuts, currently working on it.
Lots of screaming & squealing.
Cool, chill, mellow. Left it on repeat for most of the work day. Makes for some relaxing background music.
Full of great songs that get better with each listen. Still skip the 1st track, but I've grown to really love this album.
Gloom & doom sounding. Oddly perfect mood for the day...
My past few British punk albums were pretty awful, so I wasn't too excited for this one at 1st. It immediately turned into a nice surprise. Feels like the precursor to early pop punk. This album is a bop.
Idk, the doors are whatever imo. 2nd album I've gotten of there's & just wasn't really feeling this one either.
Good stuff, have always enjoyed Elliott Smith, so it was nice revisiting an album I have not listened to in forever. Well written songs, feel simple & somber.
Enjoyed most of it, runaway child was kinda bad. Otherwise pretty great album.
Was digging it, but having to use YouTube really ruins the flow...
Nice long drawn out electronic grooves.
Either absolutely amazing songs, or just kinda whatever songs. Just the 1st half would've been an easy 4-5
This whole thing is amazing. I usually skip any bonus tracks, but I was even hooked on those.
Kinda generic. Easy to put on & forget you're even listening to music.
Got some jams, got some stuff I'd skip next time around. Overall it's just kinda whatever.
Not that great overall, but I really started to dig the vocalist. The cover was my favorite track.
Nice chill classics
Not sure how to describe it, but this whole album rubbed me the wrong way...
Pretty generic 90s west coast punk, didn't hate it tho
Pretty nice & easy to listen to on repeat.
Kinda hated it, but maybe I just wasn't in the mood for yacht rock. Easy listening for boring people.
Had a few good moments, but overall just didn't care for it. Was mostly waiting for it to finish.
Not really a huge Van Halen fan, always held huge respect for Eddie's talent though. This whole album is pretty rad & full of hits.
I just really don't like Ska. I also really don't like whatever else this is.
The vocals ruin a lot of it. I enjoyed some of the songs, but completely forgettable otherwise.
Our house is still a jam. The rest is pretty meh & not worth being on this list.
Super solid. I've hated everything I've gotten prior from these guys which surprised me. But turns out all the stuff of these I enjoyed was off of this album.
Nostalgic since it's pretty much the Donny Darko soundtrack.
Rockin 80s hair metal. Idk, not really a fan of the genre, but this album has enough catchy hits & good energy that it's at least an enjoyable listen.
I've always enjoyed Prince's main pop hits & respected his talent as one of the world's greatest guitar players of all time. But this album only had a few tracks I could get into, mostly the singles. The rest was definitely funky & well produced, but just never landed for me.
Dropping N-bombs like he's Sam Jackson in a Tarantino flick lol & sure I guess it fits within the context of the albums concept... But it's definitely a shock. Looking beyond that, I'm not really a fan of piano heavy singer songwriter music.
Jazz is nice in short bits, but really makes me annoyed & uncomfortable in long form.
Awesome electronic jams that I hadn't listened to in a while.
Not as good as the other Led Zeppelin albums I've gotten so far. But Kashmir always rocks. Felt more like British band rockin out over blues riffs, but still a great album overall.
