Reviews (page 2 of 13)
What a cool album! Obviously recognise the first track :)
great instrumentals
Rating: 4.6/5 Short Review: Lean, groove-driven soul that proves how powerful simplicity can be. Every instrument sits perfectly in the pocket, creating a sound that feels effortless but timeless. Favorite Track: Green Onions. The organ riff is instantly recognizable, and the slow, steady groove makes it impossible not to nod along.
Green Onions not being the best song on the album alone lets you know just how good it is.
"Green Onions" is the coolest song ever. Fight me.
Classic hits only
Fun, peppy, bright listen!
Disco fabuloso!
Me recordó que tengo que practicar el bajo. La influencia de este disco se ve por todos lados, desde los Beatles hasta hoy!
Love this!
That hammond organ shit is timeless.
I had no idea this album was so good. I love the sound. 5/5
I have this one on record and it’s the best vibes ever! Aside from the classic Green Onions that will always be great, the best track on here is Behave Yourself
Love it! Very nice instrumental. Know one or two songs without knowing
I love Booker T & the MGs and everything they stand for. This album is fantastic soul, but also more than just that. It put Stax on the map. Even more important, I have so much love and respect for the band for having both black and white musicians during a time and place when it was not only unusual but often unacceptable. And potentially dangerous. Musically, it just grooves. Booker T’s organ has a distinctive sound that just sets a mood. Mellow, but moving. Mixed with the guitar of Steve Cropper and it is a huge win.
I know some tunes or the rhythm really like this added to libary some songs
This is such a fantastic album. I loved every bit of it!
From the beginning of the first track I knew I will rate this album high. I just cant be indifferent to beautiful music like that.
I'm not a big fan of instrumental albums, I prefer lyrics. However, you can't deny that this is a fantastic album. I'm glad I stuck it out until the end.
Sexy and fun. I want a green onion tattoo
Great album, really fun listen! And it doesn't hurt that it reminds me of some bonus content of one of my favorite podcasts, LOL.
very good. Definitely reminds me of Green Onions. In the ground, on a hot summer day. Sun is beating down.
Chill album
Bunch of songs I didn't know were by these guys. Super cool. Easy listen
So cool
THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT--HOW FUN
I always remember Booker T and the M.G.s for the song 'Green Onions' but was equally impressed upon finding out they were Otis Redding's band for a time. Familiar with a few songs and some of the covers. Easy listening, great to work to!
I always really loved Green Onions, had no clue the album was just 35 minutes of Green Onions. Music criticism is silly. It boils down to “I like this sound. I’d like to listen for 30 more minutes.” I can’t speak to this being technically proficient or anything, but it makes me feel good listening & for this dumbass list, that’s a five
2026.01.22.
A classic, a vibe, perfect.
Great! Feels like I'm in a Tarantino movie when listening to this one and walking.
9.08/10 5/5
Fabulous instrumental soul/R&B album. If only they made them like this today
Sounds like a baseball organ. I love it
Banger after banger after banger
By far the greatest accidental "we were just messing about in the studio and came up with something" album of all time. The early 70s collapse of Stax is one of the biggest tragedies in American cultural history.
You definetely know music, but probably dont know the artist. Great background music, some tracks are legends. 9/10
One of my favorite jam albums.
Good album. The start of so much music but it does all start to sound the same after a while. Still good.
Wonderful forever!!!!
The feel-good record of the year!
Ça manque d'orgue je trouve. Belle découverte, je suis tout de suite allé voir leur album hommage à Abbey Road après.
First track is very recognizable and great! The rest of the album follows it up very well.
the bass!
Walkin music
Love this album. Great instrumental, easy listening.
Absolutely love !
YEAH Hammond
With blues music, if during the solos I do the stank face, that means I enjoy the music. My first 5 star in a while.
9.1
Stunning. No notes. So many songs have been sampled from this record. It's new and familiar at the same time.
Love love love!
Classic. Although the covers are easily recognizable they still make them very much their own, percussion and organ combo is always good by me
Masterclass in how to do a whole lot with a little for each organ, guitar, and bass. Listened to this album 3x times today. I can't seem to convince myself to back down from a 5 on this one - no bad songs, ultimate reslistenability, top tier technical talent, wildly influential on the whole of music, how can that not be a 5?
Pretty great and cool
Awesome instrumental album with tons of classics featured throughout cinema.
Booker T. oli tuttu. Hyviä instrumentaalibiisejä. Tätä levyä meinaan kuunnella uudestaan.
Loved it. Early instrumental album
Good stuff
♥️
This one really worked for me! I love this exact sort of sound for while I'm just bopping around doing work or chores or whatever. Loved it! 5/5

Great album!
loved it
Yes, it's too much Hammond. But it's still a solid 5
That organ
Cool sounds
There are many reasons this is considered a classic, but far and above, it's the ability for this band to make these songs sound amazing through their talent and abilities. There are very few bands that could walk into a studio, do their thing and walk out with a stone cold classic but that is exactly what happened here.
ohhh my god oh my god this is so fun. just some guys hanging out making some music at it's best, i'm not usually one for instrumentals so this is huge for me. LOVED all of it, the vibes are out of the world from start to finish, will be listening again (a lot) as this is entering my daily rotation.
Never heard of it but so many songs are familiar because they have been sampled extensively. Great album. Need it on vinyl
ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALBUMS OF ALL TIME! Easy on the ears, legendary musicians. Love an all-instrumental album.
Bud dum bud dum baa dum x infinity Doo doo .... doo doo doo doo do do doo doo
Wow. I love this and had no idea. Green onions with everything, please!
For me, Green Onions is like the clean, live-band counterpart to Donuts. Dilla chopped our soul into a beautiful, stuttering future, but Booker T. & the M.G.'s played it whole. They took classic blues and rock tunes and didn't just cover them—they injected them with this effortless, cool swagger that makes their versions feel like the originals. It’s that same foundational groove, but polished to a pristine, timeless shine. I put it on and immediately feel cooler.
My longest yeah boy ever
great
This is a really fun album!
They were really funky and an old school jam session was going oy
How wonderful! I might start using this as a litmus test for friends. Why anyone want to hang out with someone who can’t get into this?
First, the song Green Onions is one of my favourite instrumental pieces. So I'm excited to listen to the rest of the album too. Rinky Dink sounds like every sitcom theme song from the late 60's and 70's. This album is fantastic. To me, this album is THE soundtrack of the 60's.
This rules. Great energy and grooves. Love it.
Absolutely archetypal
I could play this album on loop all day long!!! Had a really great time listening to the songs while working. I already added their songs to my spotify playlist. They're just sooo good!
Such an insanely influential albu
Fun and funky instrumentals with some very familiar tunes and a variety of instruments used, featuring an organ - I highly enjoyed this album
There isn't many things in life better than listening to this on a sizzling hot Sunday while watch baseball. While we're at it, let's eat a grilled cheeseburger with mustard, ketchup, lettuce, jalapenos, and green onions. A masterpiece, and classic. Favorite Track: "Green Onions".
Not complicated. Totally enjoyable
Love the title track. It’s always reminded me of the summers of my youth and of my father, who was a jazz enthusiast. I was pleasantly surprised that following the famous title track were 11 tracks of equal quality and influence. Look no further than the track Twist and Shout, which The Beatles famously covered.
If I ever decide to go back in time and commit an elaborate heist, I know what album I'm bringing with me.
Love the 12-bar blues open on "Green Onions," almost positive The Doors sampled it as well. "Mo' Onions" also great, and the vibes of "Stranger on the Shore" really do it for me.
5 estrelas
Nice grooves that sound fresh even 60 years later
Some pretty iconic stuff here. The title track alone pushes this into the "above average" range, but pretty much every song is groovin'.
Que soooooooooom, que soooooooooooom! Maravilhoso, perfeito!
When the 1st track played l perked up, "I know this song!" Now sure how I know it or from where though! I'm playing catch-up and randomly selecting albums from various genres, and this was my Soul selection. It's an enjoyable album and I will listen again!
Green Onions is a great track, the album also. Never listened to the full album before. Superb!
Groovy as hell man
So smooooth... Instrumentals with hammond organ + guitar, brilliant! Favorite track: Green Onions other tracks: mo onions, behave yourself, stranger on the shore
reminds me of the Hill Climb Racing song
Insanely cool and seemingly without effort. Kept trying to find ways to not let this be 5 stars but I failed
I grew up listening to this album. I love it so much.
Fantastic album. One of those "oh shit, it's that group?" Definitely saving this one.
Awesome, no notes :P Booker T is the OG
Unsure if it’s because I really liked this or nostalgia
Honestly, perfect album. An album that will make you ask "Does my band need an organist?" Early rock sounds delivered in the tradition of a Jazz combo. Fantastic musicianship, songs that tell the story without needing vocals. They do blend together a bit given the same sound on each track (not a lot of tonal variation despite the use of electric instruments), but they are also 100% bops.
Pure class!
An absolute classic jam. Great from start to finish.
I'm three songs in and I'm giving it a 5. Green Onions is absolutely iconic but the rest of these songs deserve to be seen the same way. This version of "I Got a Woman" is an absolute slam dunk. They could have Yoko Ono do solo shit for the rest of the album and I'd still give it a 5.
🤩
Groovy and simplified. Extra stars for being forerunners of this type of sound.
This was really enjoyable! I hadn't been familiar with this group before, but I listened to some of their other albums as well and have added them to my regular playlist.
This is really calming and good focus instrumentals. Good chance I go back to this.
This album sounds like they had a really good time recording it.
Cooler altes Zeug
Foundational
5/5
I saw the light
Great
Cookin'!
Classic sound, classic tunes. Songs are short enough that they don't get boring. Could've listened to this thing on repeat all day.
4/4/25. Blues classic right here, excellent musicians and lovely instrumentals. Will always remind me of summer, I blame the Sandlot!
classic, many songs sampled from here!
Delightful, so many songs I heard from my youth
Twelve songs in 36 minutes, and the first one is fucking Green Onions. Automatically the coolest on the list.5/5
Really good. Have been enchanted by the same titled track for years and glad i finally listened to the whole album. Very enjoyable and never getting too repetetive, just some really nice jazz
I’m surprised I’m giving this a five. I have kind of started to think of five stars as a rarified space for the albums that are truly exceptional music, while also being something I connect with personally. So I didn’t think an instrumental album would make that new criteria. But, it’s catchy, it makes me happy, and it’s super replayable. I listened to it twice yesterday and caught new things each time. And I know that I’ll listen to it again. If that’s not a five star, I don’t know what is.
just cool and groovy to a tee. Also these instrumental covers are taking me out. That Twist and Shout one had me grinning the whole time.
Green onions?!? Groovy instrumentals of popular songs?!? Groovy instrumental originals?!? I can dig that SUCKAAAAH
Very good listening! Reminds me of my Dad. I think we'd enjoy listening to it together.
Kako dobar album!! Preteča sve glazbe koju volim danas, baš kultno remek-djelo 🫶🏻 Jedan od onih albuma za koje ti je žao da traje tako kratko. Nakon dugo, dugo vremena morat će pasti petica ko kuća! 5/5, 9.5/10
-Okay, this is where that Tune (Green Onions) is from! -This would be a good record for my 'Yakety Sax Organ' genre collection! -Fun version of Twist & Shout ..Feel like I saw a copy of this Album down in my Mom's basement Old Record storage area. May go have a look-see.. -This would be a good Classic to own.
In my dream life, it would be southern California weather and we would all get around on roller skates and this album would be the default soundtrack being broadcast on transistor radios laying around everywhere.
Coming into this, everyone knows what Green Onions is. Amazing song, sure, whatever, but fuck me - I was not expecting quality up to the same par for the rest of the album whatsoever. What a delightful listen. Nice to get an instrumental so I don't have to listen to a talentless (usually British) lead singer yap on about something I don't care about. Though, the organ is really a lead singer in the context of this record. This is top tier shit. I could listen to this all day.
A very charming little album that is perfect for idle/background listening. An incredibly worthwhile listen even beyond its iconic opening/title track. The way the organ is used to essentially fill in for the absence of vocals is a real delight. Pretty crazy that he somehow went on to become a pro wrestler like 35 years after this album came out
Even on old timey steal from the black man recording contracts the amount of money these guys must have cumulatively made from samples and covers from this album must be mind boggling. Has to be one of the most influential albums of all time purely in its reach purely on the basis of everything coming after it.
The ultimate vibe man, just 30 minutes of good music. Setting a scene with instruments is a beautiful skill to possess!
This album makes me want to go out gamble, fuck, and do drugs. Gets me in a weird mood that makes me feel like a mobster or something. Solid 4-4.5 goin up to 5.
Smooooooth. Not big on instrumentals, but they take the cake. Dim lights, smoky room.
Every time I hear Green Onions I feel bliss. This album opened me up to a whole new world of music. Takes me back to the best part of my youth. Thank you Booker T & The MGs.
Certified classic.
The very definition of the Stax sound. The laid-back R&B/Soul grooves. Everyone knows the title track. Loved this album.
What a great journey - who says you need to use words to say anything
Total bop
I love Green Onions, and I’ve been wanting to do a deeper dive into Booker T and the M.G.s. I’m keeping that last track “Coming Home” as a favorite. Surprisingly dramatic.
So glad this album popped up. I've always been a fan of the song Green Onions but never got a chance to listen to the entire record. I absolutely loved the funk organ. Easy 5 stars.
Groovy
This is The instrumental band yeah. I can recognize the sounds sampled from other songs.
Sample city, loved this album.
Green Onions is such a classic. Fun to play on bass and a staple of a lot of blues and R&B bands. With playing as good as this, who needs words?
Cool
Can't quite place where from, but I know I've heard the title track somewhere before, and always found it intriguing and fun, but never bothered to take the time to find where it's coming from to hear more like it, so I'm happy this finally forced my hand to do so! I can't say this is music that I could listen to regularly, but this perfectly fits the niche feeling I occasionally get, where I want something fun and groovy, that I haven't yet oversaturated myself with, or for some more focused sessions where lyrics would be a bit too distracting.
I could listen to this all day!
Yes, loved this!! Green Onions - on a debut album, incredible! A great example of a song thats lasted the test of time Great tracklist and I recognised majority of these songs. Really enjoyed this listen 5 ⭐️
Great covers! Would buy as a record
So pleasant a listen on a Sunday morning.
Amazing instrumental album 9.4/10
An exceptional instrumental blues album. It’s one of those records that has songs you’ve heard here and there but didn’t know who what where or when they came from. The covers are great, but come for the onions.
From the best rhythm section comes an instrumental masterpiece.
a simple idea done to perfection, the continued escalation of the same feeligns throughout this album are done really well, a great chill album to lose yourself into
9/10. Loved it. And the song Green Onions is one of the best of all time. Album as a whole was great.
Vibes : The Album. Impossible not to like this. And with a band made up of Stax Records session players it's always going to be tight and funky. Couldn't be more in the pocket. Foot was tapping the whole way through and I love how each member has their chance to shine on the songs. Nice pacing throughout so it doesn't feel to one note which is a risk with instrumentals and that much organ. Quite short so doesn't outstay its welcome either. Highlights: Green Onions Rinky Dink I Got a Woman Mo Onions Twist and Shout Lowlights: Stranger on the Shore was a bit dull if I'm being picky.
Album 618 of 1001 Booker T. & The MG's - Green Onions (1962) Rating : 5 / 5 Some great instrumental soul. Steve Cropper on guitar and Booker T. Jones's Hammond organ are the driving force. Rated high because it is just an awesome album.
Very much enjoyed
nice instrumental album
Never heard of it, but then recognised a lot of the songs. Fantastic instrumental which I wasn’t expecting.
My kind of album. Instrumental album, but full of soul. Impressive.
4.5 rounded up got me popping my pussy and shit highlights: green onions, rinky dink, one who really loves you (nov 27 2024)
Green Onions is the debut album from Booker T. & the MG's, who were the house band at Stax Records in Memphis. Their sound is an essential part of southern soul of the 60's, as they appear on recordings of Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, among many others. When they weren't working as the supporting band for other artists, they recorded almost-exclusively instrumental tracks as Booker T. and the MG's . The band was successful as a rare, instrumental rock band; the title track is one of the most popular instrumental tracks in modern popular music. Their core members provided a great, funky basis for other artists - organ, piano, guitar, bass, and drums - and were all talented enough to create these instrumental classics.
Of course I knew the first track already and I‘ve listened to this (and the album) many times. In the right mood this music can add the right atmosphere to an relaxing evening!
This is a really exceptional record. It’s almost hard to believe that Mr. Booker T Jones could have written such a legendary song as “Green Onions” at just 18 years old. He was still in high school for goodness sake. The tone he got out of his Hammond B3 organ has been imitated and duplicated ever since, but no one has come close to the soulful playing of Booker T. I’ve always really admired the amount of emotion he can convey through such a simple instrument. I first noticed this when I saw him play an exceptional set opening for Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings at the Saddledome back in 2009. Most of this album consists of covers, but the way he plays them really makes them feel like more than the originals. Everything else instrumentally here is top notch, the drumming is steady and funky, and the guitar playing is almost on par with the emotional power of the lead organ. I own a few copies of this record on vinyl, and it still gets semi-regular playtime. 5 stars.
A wonderful album. The title track is, of course, an all-timer and is just one of those songs. The rest of the album is mostly covers and a few original tracks, including the fantastic “Behave Yourself”, all instrumental. What I love about this album is the way the electric organ serves as the main melodic device and serves a role in each song that would otherwise by served by either vocals or perhaps a lead guitar. In some tracks, the organ is played more like an organ, and in some it’s used for fast licks; the licks give a very interesting effect because the particular organ used doesn’t allow the notes to “overlap”. The effect is a very digital sound that belies the 1962 release date. The vibes of this album are second to none. It’s summertime backyard cookout, after you’ve already eaten and twilight is setting in and the heat is starting to relent. Beyond the vibes it’s also just excellent musicianship and interesting production. I don’t have any negatives to report really. 9/10
The title track along makes it a five star.
Love love love it
Easy background listening, nice choice for tasks
Listening to this because I love it, not because I need to, since I have this album memorized. Always killer, zero filler and one of the best arguments for the power of southern soul music.
I know this song! Crazy. I know these songs. Just didn't know it. Wow. So many good songs. So many movie memories in this album.
First listen. Well. I guess it was alright.
Great instrumental album!
Instant favorite. Instantly recognizable. A feel good album!
Love, love, LOVE, this album! Arguably my favorite of this era, which is saying something because it was a GREAT time for music. My dad introduced me to Booker T when I was very young and it will always remind me of watching The Blues Brothers with him. These guys basically become the Stax "house band" and backup MANY of the well know artists that came through that studio. Truly amazing album from a truly amazing group of musicians.
Trailblazing
Awesome instrumentals and really cool to hear things I've heard before and put them in the context of a historic album. Enjoyed the listen and totally understand why it's on the list!
Love me some Hammond Organ
Amazing that this album is over 60 years old. Still funky, still makes you move. Timeless.
Wow, had no idea how seminal
Green Onions is one of the classics of early '60s rock. The cover of Twist and Shout is excellent! The band is amazing. The album is simple, but perfectly executed.
Great to hear as some sort of background music.
5/5 Light, funky tunes make for easy listening, with really great moments throughout. The organ wails over, and the guitar punches through the silky smooth instrumentals beautifully. The second side in particular is just exceptional. All in all, this album sounds incredibly cohesive and timeless. Green Onions 4.5/5 Rinky Dink 4.5/5 I Got a Woman 4/5 (LEAST FAV) Mo' Onions 4/5 Twist and Shout 5/5 Behave Yourself 5/5 Stranger on the Shore 5/5 Lonely Avenue 5/5 One Who Really Loves You 5/5 You Can't Sit Down 5/5 A Woman, a Lover, a Friend 5/5 Comin' Home Baby 5/5 (FAV)
Excellent musicians!
Cool instrumental blues soul
Great instrumental album
I like how many onions there were
Great chilled listen. Nice to have a lyricless one
ELECTRIC BLUES!!! What a rad album. I haven't listened to this all the way through since I was in my freshmen year of college, learning about the influence of this music on ALL modern music. Its all right there. Its the electric blues, half the songs on this record were lifted and made bigger and better by other artists. The Beatles, Otis Redding, Ray Charles, The Rolling Stones. What else do I need to say?? I guess the musicianship on the freaking organ is next level. Why doesn't anyone play like that anymore? We need more church organs in music.
Absolutely funktastic. Loved it. Soul, jazz, funk and rolled into one.
love love loved it
I love instrumental music. This had a fun mix of tunes.
Brilliant. So smooth.
Amazing album. My first 5 star.
Don’t know this 1) that’s this?! What’s above ‘legendary’? Exceptional album. Instantly into my library.
What a great album, and with NO vocals!! Didn’t realize how many of these tunes I know, whether from tv or movies or whatever. Definitely on a mission to find more stuff like this! This is music that speaks to your soul. Listen again: yes Purchase for my collection: yes Favourite Song: Behave Yourself
Great album loved it!!
0/10 ненавижу лук, но а альбом инструментальный так что поставлю 10/10
Great classic 60's rock/rockabilly sound. Essential listening for piano/synth players.
Wonderful album. Some nice blues, great usage of the organ. Certainly one of the greats in the history.
Foundational. Fun. Funky. Five stars.
Loved! Nice and chilled.
So many classic songs sampled in so many places. You cannot beat Booker T.
Another BANGER album except this time there's no lyrics and instead it's some funky organ which eats every time. Also a pleasant surprise to realize I actually knew the title track, despite thinking this was going to be come obscure album I never would've even come close to hearing of otherwise. These instrumentals are just so cool and I don't care that it keeps reusing the organ sound - each track has its own "idea" that is just as good as the rest so I can't choose a favourite (although Green Onions may be it, just due to how recognizable it is). I have also broken out of the matrix and will be giving out 5s more liberally now based on initial impressions without overthinking it so that a Beauty And The Beat tragedy never happens again. Welcome to my 5/5 club Green Onions
Instrumental music, apparently very influential for the music style during its time.
i could listen to this album on repeat for hours
This is so good! Fresh, influential, and completely its own thing. Highly recommend.
Felt like I was listening to a fundamental building block of music. Peak album. Has a consistent theme through the album that I love.
Love a good blues album and this is great. The first track I've definitely heard before and the rest is fun to listen to while in the kitchen. Had me grooving along and didn't go on for too long. Loved it.
Love it. Great tune.
wonderful soundscape with many funky guitars and keys, this album pairs well with a walk in the sunshine or light rain.
Green Onions
Vraiment bien aimé ! I got a woman Mo’ Onions Lonely Avenue
Really fun
Carolina Beach Music at its finest! Oh my the memories this album brought back!
Classic Blues....love, love, love this!
I love this. This is my kind of jazz and early rock and roll! So fun to hear the originals of these iconic songs!
So good! I recognize some of the songs
A breath of fresh air
A pillar of blues rock records, this album communicates everything beautiful and groovy about the genre without uttering a single word. Loose, collaborative playing that is antithetical to today’s trends of laser-precision tracking, the MG’s are both intimately human in their music and untouchable legends in their influence. Drums are minimalist, tight, and effortless, bass is bossy and limber, guitar is brash, reckless, overdriven, and bad ass, and the organ is insanely bluesy, smooth, and dexterous. That’s it, that’s all they needed. Generations of children have been conceived to this album. Stand out tracks include “Green Onions”, “Twist and Shout”, “Stranger on the Shore”, “One Who Really Loves You”, and “Comin’ Home Baby”.
Every song is a hit and I love. That's what makes a great album. Every song!
Smooth as silk instrument only
You’ve heard the song “Green Onions.” It’s probably all you’ve heard from Booker T. And the MG’s. But the rest of the album is just as good as that. Masterful skill on all instruments, impeccable style and attitude exudes through every song. It’s laid back and it’s intense, it’s atmospheric and it’s in your face. Everything I could have wanted out of an instrumental album and more. This is my kind of stuff.
This album had the same feel as the one I was given yesterday, but each song felt more unique. I think the guitar brought familiarity and diversity to each song. Definitely good music to work to!
👏🏼
Iconic. An instrumental album made 62 years ago, still slaps, and is still relevant in Movies, TV and commercials in 2024. My kids thought it was hilarious the album is named for a vegetable.
Nice
This whole thing slaps
Great
Slapped good
Very inoffensive. Fun tunes
slaps balls
Geitig met het sausje
iconisch, lekker jammen
this has no right to be this good
Fucking love the keyboard
sandlot
I dig this! Had heard the title track before. But I never really knew what it was called or who it was by before. But yeah this was a great listen.
Legendary, classic, undeniable foundation of Rock-n-roll.
All instrumentals. Classic rhythm & blues.
Stone cold classic. There is so much talent on display here and these organ tones are utterly iconic. It was a really great listen. No negatives, only love for this one.
Great non-lyrical ritzy blues. Would certainly listen again!
What’s not to love? Classic record, you’ve probably heard all of these songs and not known it.
Not a word said, and I made a 1000 stories up in my head. Just a super chill album.
Reminds me of Forest Gump.
A wonderful instrumental album. I really enjoyed the blend rock, blues, funk, and soul. It hits all the right buttons.
Very funky, lots familiar from samples
Groovy baby
Brilliant album! Really enjoyed it. Long time since I listened to this album.
Love this album. Love the Blues Brothers. This album just made me so happy.
Classic
a classic. I remember first hearing this when I was like 12-13 playing Skate 2?
Loved it.
Groovy jazzy synth piano. Freaking epic.
very fun album. no vocals but it made me feel like i was at a baseball game. the orogen and guitar sounded good together
WTF, how have I never listened to this album before. I'm ashamed, but also thrilled now that I've discovered it. Definitely one to play on repeat.
I liked it. It was a nice listen. Pretty groovy :)
Amazing instrumental chill 60s background "Sandlot" vibes.
Probably my first foray into instrumental jazz/soul as a kid. From hearing Green Onions on the sandlot to the bluesy and mischievous keys of Behave Yourself, I credit this album to opening my understanding of jazz and soul, eventually leading to my love of Neo-soul
Immediately recognized the opening riff despite not knowing the album or band name. Great music to chill to while working
Awesome
Absolutely elemental! Foundation groove, and way ahead of the time for when it was released
The title track has always been a favorite of mine, an absolute perfect piece of music, and the rest of the album didn't disappoint. So happy to jam with this today.
I have always loved the song Green Onions. Im very fond of this cool 60’s organ-driven song. I have heard the song Mo’ Green Onions several times, another welcome helping of Green Onions goodness. But I wasn’t sure if those songs were representative of the greater works of Booker T and the MGs. I love listening to this. A groovy soundtrack for the day!
Loved it. It’s amazing to see how many featured artists they inspired with their music. The samples are very recognizable.
"Green Onions", had no idea what this song was called until now, heard it many times. Really enjoyed listening to this album,
Loved the vibe. Great funky chill music.
10/10 got Great thrift finds BANGER ALBUM
This is great. Starts with a song you've never heard of, but you've definitely heard a million times. The organ sounds amazing, the band is super tight and the guitar tones are great. At first I wasn't a huge fan of the covers, but on second listen they're actually really good. As good as the covers are, they're outshined by the original songs on here (other than rinky dink which I don't care for).
Super cool— would definitely jam this on a road trip or bike ride or jaunt through the city… this music felt like art. And expression! Truly
Nice
I had never heard of this band but it’s bangers end to end, and apparently every pop song in the 60’s ripped these guys off somehow. Some real bops
Perfect. 5/5
Hellafuckingood 90's beer commercial music...
Some classic songs behind classic samples. Overall super recognizable and just sounds amazing to listen to
it was like playing golden eye or listening to an old timey radio...i liked the exp 😁
Totally unexpected. What a nice she peaceful album, while providing enough sonic variation to make it an album worth paying attention to
Damn. I’m a sucker for this sound.
First off, I’m just going to say that the “La Grange” groove has to be one of the most recognizable grooves of all time, because I’ve now heard it like three times this week from different artists. Green Onions is a great opener due to this. Rinky Dink continues this trend as a great instrumental track that makes me feel like I’m grooving around a town during a summer afternoon. This album is shaping up to just be groove after groove and I love it for that.
Two things: 1) assume this kind of stuff heavily influenced the Beatles 2) an acknowledgement of how incredible the 60s were in terms of progression. From this to Sgt Peppers in the space of five years just seems so outrageous 3) You Can't Sit Down is a banger
That was good and fun
Can't help nodding my head or tapping my fingers in time to these tracks. Great feel good instrumental album with some quirky covers such as stranger in the shore. One to listen to on a sunny day chilling with a cold beer.
This album is banging. The jazz rock sound is awesome. I love the keyboard parts.
Trop court! Vraiment jouissif. Ce disque m’a mise de bonne humeur et je l’ai écouté 3 fois
I really really liked this. Smooth and casual
Solid bops here. Instantly recognisable and instantly considered a classic!
Makes me happy. Listened a few times as I felt the grove
Heck yeah. This is amazing. This is one of those albums where the music is 100% familiar to me, but I had never listened to the album and couldn't have even told you who Booker T. was or what he did. Well, now I'm obsessed! What a fantastic discovery. I can't wait to explore more Booker T. & the MG's music. The title track is phenomenal, the musicians are amazing, I'm left thirsting for more: love love love. 5/5
had no idea that I have been listening to this band my whole life. Guitarist Steve Cropper is in the Blues Brothers, the greatest movie/band of all time.
Really loved this.
This is excellent. Totally going into my rotation of music to work to.
The thing about onions are that they have layers, layers that could reveal whatever hidden truth or gem that's ready for one or more to get their hands on. As far as Booker T. & The MG's were concerned, when it came to Green Onions, not only were they equipped with truths (their impeccable talents) but gems as well. Whether it will later soundtrack some million or so car treks in the next several decades or be uncovered as some waiting to be noticed dance exercise that would help get the body moving, Green Onions would stand as the epitome of not only R&B but popular music of its time.
I know that I'm going to love this. Green Onions is one of those "Epitome of cool" tracks that simply can't help but make you feel like you're the smoothest human to ever stalk to face of the planet. Second track comes at you with the Hammond organ croaking out a slightly clipped, muted tune. The backing is great, but when we come onto track 3, Jones is making that organ sing like a Yukon bear trapper on his annual visit to the brothel. Sure, the band is great and there's not a note out of place, but the organ is in this like Blackpool rock. It's magnificent. Track four up and we've got such a funky sound it almost hurts. Mo' onions? Mo' funk! Mo' organ! It isn't as cool as Green Onions, but it uses similar, well, everything. After this is Twist and Shout, which isn't as good The Beatles or Ray Charles' covers. Mildly let down, the Hammond becomes soulful and down tempo. We go further towards melancholy in track 7. Lonely Avenue, track 8, turns bluesy, with the Hammond doing the Lord's work, intricately replicating what you've come to expect from a Louisiana bluesman's harmonica. Track 9 comes upbeat, and I'm here for that. "One who really loves you" gives us intricate melodies and we move on apace with a nice short track that once again makes you want to get up and dance - and you know you'll feel great doing it. Track 11 comes around to blues again, and to be honest it's a little boring. The twiddliness reminds me a little of Withnail and I, but not quite in the way I'd home. Comin' Home Baby is a nice gentle finish to a superb album. Although nothing will reach the heights of Green Onions, Mo' Onions does come close. And Green Onions alone would get this album a 5.
