I realize the Hammond organ was all the rage back then, but I just can't get used to the annoying sound. It's soooo much better when the guitarist takes over...

It’s just organ and guitars. It’s a cool groove and the title track alone goes straight into the library but the pace, instrumentation and mood never really shifts and it didn’t really stick with me. Glad to have found it. Will be moving on, thanks.

Ok, Mo' Onions is just (as the title implies) another version of Green Onions. Other than those two, the rest are a bit weaker. I don't think you can make good instrumental songs simply by taking a song with a vocal and playing the vocal line on an instrument; I think good instrumentals tend to be designed as instrumentals from the ground up.

I’m a lyric guy, this album while the music is good I would not put this on at any point in my life. It is extremely short, background music. Not bad but not what I would consider in the top albums of all time. 2/5 (At least the music is good).

Its difficult because this is clearly a very influential and iconic album from the 60s, that helped shape music as it is today. But it's also fucking boring

Fun album; it starts off strong (Green Onions is awesome), but the organ/no vocals gets stake after a few songs. Also, not a huge fan of the fact that this album is - with the exception of three songs - mostly covers of previous songs that are not quite as good as the originals.

Nice instrumentals, good background listen. I know instrumentals were very popular in the early 60s. It's a tad cartoony at times with the organ being the lead instrument.

For 1962 this is smooth as hell. "Green Onions" is probably the best groove ever recorded. The rest of the album was meh; it hasn't aged that well. The biggest issue is the same warble sound from the keyboard on every track. It sounds like something that you would hear over the P.A. at a minor-league baseball game.

Het nummer waarvan ik herken is “Love is Strange” van Dirty Dancing hehe. En zag dat dat nummer eerder is gereleased, 1955 vgm, en dus het origirneel is:) (zeker ook het luisteren en kijken waard!!) Ik zou dit album een 2 geven want ja, zou het echt nooit opzetten. Misschien leuk als filmmuziek ofzo

What the fuck was this. I was so confused for the first few songs because I knew I recognized them but I didn't know where from. Im honestly still confused because I feel like I have heard all of these songs in movies or youtube videos. I didn't hate listening to it but I definitely wouldn't turn any of these songs on just because. 2/5

This album is a glorified compilation of royalty-free music. It wasn't unenjoyable to listen to, and I even recognized a couple of the tracks, but everything felt so uninspired and robotic. I can only listen to a certain amount of 12-bar-blues variations without any lyrics. T1- "Green Onions" is going on the playlist. What a waste of a spot on this list. 2/5

Summary: Very simplistic – too much so. Title/opening track is iconic and played to perfection, but most of the other tracks really aren't memorable. Instrumentation and performance consistently plays it safe, to the detriment of interest in any of the tracks. Lack of vocals is fine, but it does leave a higher demand of interest in the other instruments, which just isn't there. The tracks could be ordered better as well – tracks 6/7/8 sound very similar. Green Onions: Iconic! Warm atmosphere created with the organ. Other instruments give the head melody (played by organ) plenty of space. Guitar soloing could be better – very rhythmically repetitive, although that could be explained by this section not actually being a solo at all. (Whoops.) Organ section comes back, and it's brilliant. Fade-out is choppy. Rinky Dink: Heart and Soul chords. Organs are at the forefront again, with a less memorable melody than the previous track. Tropical feel. Feels like it should have vocals. Love the guitar solo. I Got a Woman: fun quick drums and guitar. Jammy. Easy to lose myself to the groove. Mo' Onions: Discount version of the opening track. At least, I thought that at first. Would've preferred this to be the closing track or immediately follow Green Onions, but it's a perfectly fine reprise. Lots of repetition here. I think they knew the title track was their strongest – maybe a better idea to make that one longer (merge tracks?) instead of this separate one. Filler? Nice filler, for sure. Twist and Shout: A cover of the track we all know and love. The Beatles did it better, although a shoutout to the organ for doing its darnedest. Some cool guitar fills at around 1:20 – wish they kept going with those. Behave Yourself: first time where I found myself really enjoying the bass. Layered organ also pleasant, and swing composition is a nice change of pace. Still too simplistic for my taste. Props to the organ melody in the last minute for going ham. Stranger on the Shore: Feels like a continuation of the previous track (same swung tempo). Reverb on guitar. Wacky chords. Otherwise, kind of boring :( I imagine this works great as a (jazz) standard, but not with this band. Lonely Avenue: Again, same tempo+swing as the previous two tracks. Intentional? Getting hard to maintain interest at this point. Relaxed. One Who Really Loves You: Whew - a change in pace! I enjoyed this one more than I probably should have – almost sounds video game soundtrack-esque. Production quality on guitar is muted and brings it down substantially. You Can't Sit Down: upbeat 12-bar. Green Onions's hyperactive cousin. First piece that makes use of (relative) silence, around the 2-minute mark – and fairly successfully. One of the stronger tracks. A Woman, a Lover, a Friend: I didn't have much to say about this one. Nothing particularly bad, just uninteresting. Solid ending. Comin' Home Baby: Love the composition. The playing is pretty lightweight - the lower held notes on the organ could be brought forward for a substantially heavier (and, in my opinion, better) sound. Really good guitar solo. I so wish it kept going higher towards its climax.

Can't believe this album is from 1962. Classic, groovy blues that defined the Stax label and was so influential on the late 1960's psychedelic sound and the later funk explosion in the 1970s. The album is weak and repetitive after Green Onions. Hammond organ, the late fifties jazz drumming, and dated guitar tone and technique in the solos.

Eh, not my style at all. Green Onions is obviously a famous instrumental.

Did not realize green onions was a full album and not a single. Mixed sound reminiscent of 50's style love songs and 70's keyboard funk. Im guessing there isn't a single lyric sang on this entire album. I like how they just put the most popular song first on the album and then expected everyone to make their purchase based on that; every song sounds almost exactly the same. I feel like I'm at a classic American baseball game. Overall a very boring listen, though I guess I could see the significance of the impact it may have made at the time. And yes, not a single lyric was spoken.

I don't think I'm that big of a fan of Green Onions. The songs all sounded the same and not a single one really stood out to me (except for You Can't Sit Down). Normally, Instrumental albums can be good but they need to have some kind of way to keep the songs from sounding too similar and this album unfortunately does not have that. It was pleasant to listen to but not very interesting at all. Best Song: You Can't Sit Down Worst Song: Stranger on the Shore

Title track Green Onions is always gonna be a default classic track for me... but the rest of the album... with that Hammond organ sound... is just some straight out of a night in the Phoenix Night club with Brian Potter.... its just a 60 year old sound that hasn't travelled well.

nothing has really caught my attention i have been liking the names rinky dink was decent i love organ playing and hammond stuff but this wasnt my sort of thing i dont think stranger on the shore was very relaxing however one who really loves you was good too comin home baby was very good 2 stars i think

Booker T. recorded this at the age of 17. Let that sink in. The title track is instantly recognizable and probably one of the greatest instrumentals out there. But while I won’t hesitate to recognize Booker T. for being the Hammond-genius that he is, the formula very quickly becomes too boring and predictable. I love many of the songs individually. As an album, I’m not so sure.

If you like the same organ riff over and over again with a side of tacky cover song then this album is for you!

Best Song: Twist and Shout. Honestly, I liked that I could recognize it. Worst Song: Stranger on the Shore. Unbearably sleepy. Overall: Evidently this is not the genre for me. Without any vocals, this just felt like the blues that was missing one key element.

Green Onions the song is a work of genius. The Stax house band at its finest. These musicians are legendary. This album, not so much. After the high of the iconic title track it quickly descends into elevator music. It's just not that interesting.

I was feeling critical so I chose this to make myself feel important after I moved my cursor over the second star and hit "vote" with the confidence of a male entering a bar wearing khakis and a flannel over a gray hoodie. But I liked it more than anticipated. I was toggling between a 2 or 3, because it started out promising, but lost it towards the end. I would give it a 2.5, but I can't quite bring myself to give it a 3, so we're back where we started. Moves made: 2 Girls talked to: -5 "Ooh she's bad": 43

Pretty boring, I’d play it for background music. The first song sounded familiar, but then again most sounded the same so I’m not sure which one I know from the yesteryears.

I'm not a very large fan of jamming albums. It's interesting hearing the musicianship, but I prefer more structure.

I always think of the movie The Sandlot when I hear Green Onions.

Best part about these older albums is how short the songs are. Makes them far more digestible. This album seems to definitely have some iconic riffs in it, as often a song would start then I would recognize it moments later. Issue is that you never expect these riffs to be a small part of another two to three minutes. I mean, nothing overstays it's welcome, but nothing is extremely notable either, past the before mentioned riffs.

I don't think I had heard anything by this group aside from Green Onions and Mo' Onions! I didn't realize instrumental music was their entire jam! Green Onions is one of those songs that everybody knows. It's iconic, funky, and the organ solo just GOES FOR IT. Ultimately, I think the concept of instrumental funk is completely worthy of this project. As far as personal enjoyment, I thought it was just okay.

I had heard the title track several times and liked it. Didn't realize the whole album was just the same organ sound over and over again.

Kinda monotonous. Certainly some talent there, but I've heard enough organ-centric music at church to last a lifetime. I wish they played like this at church but still, not something I enjoyed listening to. Church or this album.

"Green Onions" is still a phenomenal instrumental, but this album feels like the product of a record thrown together after an unexpected hit single. Everything here is fine, but it's all just wallpaper, or at least interesting if you recognize the song. There's even an attempt at a second lightning strike with "Mo' Onions". It's... fine. Probably wouldn't have thrown it on this list. Favorite tracks: "Green Onions", "I Got A Woman"

It’s an album packed full of covers we are all aware of. I struggle with too much funkiness and the unique sound and constant organ grow wearing on me.

A pretty flat collection of 12-bar blues. However, both the first and last track are built around riffs / progressions that feature in probably 100 future songs.

It's quite boring. I think I've tried to listen to it before (a long time ago), and felt the same. Title track bangs though.

Overall, I quite liked the music but as a collection of songs I found it too repetitive & similar. Perfect background music!

During the panini I discovered you can regrow green onion stumps if you place them in a small amount of water in indirect sunlight. Green onions forever. If you put this album in water and indirect sunlight it grows a bud light and a easy going attitude. Great BBQ music. C

I didn't know what to expect from this, but it's a bit disappointing, isn't it? Nothing quite has the prowl and strut of the title tracks, and whilst some of the soul covers are decent - especially the Ray Charles cut - too much is half a step away from elevator music. Often, older music benefits from a more sparse, 'live' sounding production, but not in this instance - it's a tinny and undeveloped sounding album.

Sometimes at the seaside or at Christmas markets you have a Wurlitzer organ blasting out irritating noise and you can buy a CD and I always think who would listen to that at home…. This is that, although the title track is an elevated version.

Yeah.... Not my thing. I was expecting to hear some vocals but it was pure instrumental which, okay, wasn't that bad, but I wouldn't say I loved it.

i don't think i had ever listened to Booker T. & The MG's before. I do like to listen to songs without lyrics but they should be strongly instrumental. This album was very very dull for me. The only song i see myself maybe listening to again is Stranger on the Shore, solely because it had a guitar solo. Maybe this was extraordinary in the 60's and i get that but not my cup of tea, darling.

Green onions the songs wiuld make 1001 songs before you die but the rest of this album is mainly renditions of other songs in pedestrian to pleasant instrumentals . 1 star as this shouldn’t be in the list

The biggest sin here is the fade outs, the lack of proper endings to the songs makes it hard to shake off the vibe you are listening to essential and dressed up collection of loading screen music

Not really songs, more just grooves. The title track is the best one, but this is still pretty dull.

The first song was OK, I struggled with the next few and gave up and retreated to Planet rock.

Okay, gotta be honest, I'm not a big fan of the Beatles. I find them a little bit bland even if I know the historical weight they hold but I also have to admit that I have never listened to any of their albums completely, only the songs that are the most famous, so here I am full of hope that there is at least one song of them that is gonna shake me to the core so let's see. Surprise me Okay, update, I'm halfway the album. Still nothing has shaken me to the core and actually I'm a bit disappointed because the Beatles are serving zero homoerotic vibes even when they are described as a boy band. I have a lot of thoughts, none of them are kind. Update #2. Some things are better to left unsaid. That's all I'm gonna say, actually I think i said enough. I just feel like I just ate a bowl of unseasoned chicken. I'm gonna shut up now

Just as well albums were shorter in the 60s as I'm not sure I could have listened any longer . Flashbacks to films that had girls in short dresses dancing unrealistically in nightclubs . Did recognise a couple of the tunes -Acker Bilk did it better .

If you've listened to the title track you've listened to the whole album. No need to sit through 35 minutes of this shit.

This was subjectively awful. Iirc this was rushed out because Green Onions was a hit on radio so they smashed out an album. It was just jams of well known tunes but none of them anywhere near the level of the originals. That organ sound was not my fave but some of the guitar licks were cool. I thought the album got better at one point but it had gone to autoplay....

Green onions is a classic. Everything else. Skippable.

I honestly didn’t like the album as a whole- it’s just not be vibe on any given day. But “One Who Really Loves You” really got me in a jolly mood, probably because it resembles Chicano Batman. Honorary mentions to “Comin’ Home Baby” and “Behave Yourself”.

2 original songs padded out with a bunch of covers played on a really annoying fairground organ. Even the artwork smacks of ‘fuck it, that’ll do. Just release it’. Don’t understand why this is so highly rated.

"Green Onions" is one of the three songs that the septuagenarian Italian-American blues band plays at Bob and Barbara's in Philly every weekend. Anyway, I make sure that I get out of there as fast as I can once they start to set up. Wish I could have run away from this album too.

Bit of a silly album innit? Most of the songs have a Benny Hill montage vibe. You known when Benny Hill is chasing bikini clad English girls at 1.5 speed? Yeah. Plus the title track isnt that good. 1/5 stars.

Booker T. discovered the organ and never looked back. The title track was kind of fun for what it was, though a little to goofy for me, but man, Rinky Dink is annoying. And this is only track TWO. I have to sit through over another 30 minutes of this. I am screaming. Mo' Onions (lmfao) has a cool little guitar and bass line that gets old by the end but it's a reprieve from some of the nonsense. More annoying goofiness until the last 15 seconds of Stranger on the Shore. Really cool guitar riff. But then we get into Lonely Avenue and suddenly I'm fearing for my sanity again. It's just annoying and sounds like cartoon music. You Can't Sit Down has kind of a cool surf rock sound, like Endless Summer vibes. It would be fun in isolation but as I near the end of this record and I already want to die a little bit I'm like "HURRY UPPPP PLEASEEEE." Comin' Home Baby has an eerie vibe that is a bit unique and was a welcome ending to the record. I mean, I think any track would be a welcome ending simply due to it being the ending, but the creepiness was interesting compared to everything else. I wouldn't call it enjoyable by any means, but relatively, yeah. Most of the time I can appreciate some sillier music when I can tell the artist doesn't take themselves too seriously, but even if this is the case here, I at least want to be entertained and not annoyed the whole time. I would be so content if I never heard another organ again. Next time I hear one I will get Vietnam War flashbacks. This is very Tom & Jerry core. Grandma and Pappy did the jitterbug to this in 1962. This was their 100 gecs except it wasn't good. Ass. 1/5.

Recogniced the first song from an old Dressman ad. Im starting to realize that im not a fan of organs/this specific sounding keyboard as a instrument. It sounds goofy and silly to me. Like circus music. Elevator music. Strikes no feelings whatsoever with me. Some of the most bland music ive heard in a while.

Во время прослушивания альбома не чувствуется душевности в треках, одна песня проходит за другой, и присутствует ощущение, будто ты застрял в лифте и в панике ищешь выход из него. Как историческая точка в истории эта пластинка должна идти в первых рядах, но как альбом в 2025 году оно не слушается, дайте мне the beatles с таким же звучанием, и любая песня будет восприниматься лучше всего альбома Booker T. & The MG’s. I find it hard to put into words why exactly I dislike this album. The title song is... fine I guess, I mean, everybody knows the song but that doesn't really make it good. The rest of the album is utterly forgettable and a bit of a chore to get through.

Step 1) play a mediocre chord progression you've heard 100 times before. 2) organ and guitar solos for 2-4 minutes. Was completely bored and do not understand

Green Onions is a fantastic song, but this album is everything that is wrong with this list. I don’t doubt that these guys are talented individuals, but at a guess I would say they had a big hit with green onions and were then rushed into the studio to record a bunch of covers and release as a record to capitalise. Clearly having a big hit single in the 60s is enough to get your album into this book.

Bit samey, but decent background tunes. They have better albums.
