Love everything CCR does
Good
Great! Really great! Every song feels diverse but still similar to the previous ones because of the guitarist. Hands down to him. Liked every song of it specially Commotion and Lodi. Great band
This is a good album. There’s no arguing it. It’s tight and every song is good. No skips. Not my type of music, but it’s good.
Loved it
A classic
Bad Moon Rising, Green River, Lodi….all classic rock song and have listen to them many times! Great album overall! CCR never musically imo!
YESSS!! I love these guys!
This was a great album. Scratched all kinds of itches - summertime, blues, harmonies. Five stars.
Heerlijk.
Country. Sounds fun.
A very tight 29 minute in the pocket performance that flies by. I appreciate Fogerty's ability to shape his vocal riffs so that they give more rhythmic depth to songs rather than words simply laying on top of them. A small detail, but it really differentiated CCR the other blues rock contemporaries. That, and their discipline to avoid extended improv sessions on the album recordings and to save those for the hardcore fans at concerts. Also exhibits a very skillful level of songwriting that is pretty rare today. It craft actual stories, and manages to walk the line carefully enough that the songs are accessible enough with a well structured foremost groove, and open enough in the lyrics that no matter what your political views are, they invite you in, rather walling you off from their central characters with off putting sloganeering. Favorites: "Green River", "Bad Moon Rising", "Lodi", "Sinister Purpose"
listened before blues and early rock, traditional motifs “Lodi” is my favorite. Though they emerged in a place and time where trippy psychedelic visions were the order of the day, CCR bucked the trends and instead tapped into a rich, traditional seam of American music that connected to blues, country, rockabilly, gospel, folk and R&B.
He's a lad from Portugal Better than Figo, don't you know? Oh, his name is Diogooooooooo
I'm pretty embarrassed this is the first time I've ever listened to this. Fantastic album.
Credence lucked out since today was a hot one and it bumped up the album's rating at least 2 points
Great classic album
A very enjoyable listen. Somber Rock with loads of heart. Proud Mary at the end was a sweet surprise.
Creedence é Creedence
Genuinely incredible infusion of blues & funk in a rock album. Twangy, foot tappin’ and rocking in all the right ways.
LOVED GREAT BAND
Amazing vocals some of the best guitar. I’ve heard yet crack open a beer and enjoy every song on this album.
Not my favourite CCR album but all the '68 to '70 albums are great (and boo to not having Willy and the Poor Boys on the list). For me it lacks one or two more rockers, with too many (very good) mid-paced songs that make it sound too samey. Still a great album, but for me a touch short of the perfection of some of their other albums
How can anybody not like Creedence?
A classic end to end.
While I definitely don't think it's necessary to have two albums of a three album run from the same year, it's also CCR. This list has helped me find out that I have my dad's taste in Country despite him never listening to Country around me and very rarely talking about what Country bands he actually likes, outside of never shutting the hell up about Bob Dylan. I got a Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album yesterday and he comes into my room and goes "now where did you find this one?" and went all crazy about there being an album from them on the list. Half my family loves CCR and the other half hasn't heard of them, and I'm definitely a part of the former half. It's pretty hard not to have fun with an album of songs like Commotion and Wrote a Song For Everyone, and John Fogerty's voice is recognizable from the other side of a continent. He's pouring 75% of his soul into his singing and he saves the other 25% for his guitar.

Can’t beat it. So many classics on this one. One of the best to ever do it, truly one of the few. Such a sound. All their albums are full of heat, so hard to pick the “best”, but this is up there. Lodi sells this one for me, even though it’s probably a deep cut to most.
CCR rocks. Top songs: Green River, Commotion, Tombstone Shadow, Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Cross-Tie Walker
Solid work. Belongs on this list.
CCR is simply just a sublime band. Solid 5 Stars.
I’m at a 4.5 that I’ll bump up to a 5. Not too much to say, really. I trust CCR quite a bit at this point, so I knew this would be good. It’s not quite as dazzling as “Cosmo’s Factory” from a year later, but it just didn’t have to be. As always, John Fogerty’s vocals & lyrics are on point, which is to be expected at this point. Surprisingly enough, it’s the instrumentals that feel just a little flatter compared to “Bayou Country”. It might just be the mix from the 1985 remasters flattening down some of the percussion, or the lack of extra depth in the guitar solos that “Cosmo’s Factory” had, but I found this album feeling a little more tame. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t rock though; even when it’s more tame overall, there’s still always a good moment from SOMETHING in the soundscape, whether it’s the grit in John’s voice, a fun guitar solo, a little syncopation, or just a cool fucking outro (ala “Commotion”). There’s not a single skip here, and nothing drags on a little too long like it does on “Bayou Country”. “Bad Moon Rising” is the only one I knew going in (a billion plays on Spotify, deserved for good reason), but everything else here is pretty damn good as well; my favorite is probably “Lodi”, if only for the blend of good storytelling & the swaying guitar rhythm that ties it all together. I do feel like “The Night Time is the Right Time” is a little incessant with the backing vocals & a little odd as a closer, but that’s being a bit nitpicky, I think. As a whole, it’s a super tight 29 minutes, and while the lack of bigger variety does make it feel a little longer, I can’t possibly complain about the quality of the tracks here. Hence, a 4.5 that I’ll bump up to a 5, and a pretty strong way to close out CCR’s presence on the list. I need to go listen to “Willy And The Poor Boys”, I think.
My bit for years has been I’m Cajun because my parents (for some reason) told me I was conceived in New Orleans. I’m genuinely more from the bayou than John Fogerty, so I have the authority to say (do declare) he’s an honorary bayou-man. I’m so well adjusted.
Ccr
It's CCR. Impossible to not like.
Tri x HBB Kai.
Great
Loved classic
Sailing the green river was Len Houmous’ name for his infamous acid trips. 4.7 6/9 Bad Moon Rising
Lodi is one of my Karaoke songs.
The only disappointing thing about this album is that it ends. It's probably the weakest of the three Creedence albums on the list, but a weak CCC record is still an easy 5. It's so warm and familiar and reliable, like the leather upholstery of dad's fixer-up Oldsmobile. Fav tracks: Bad Moon Rising, Green River, Sinister Purpose
Excellent album. A classic. "Bad moon rising", "Green river"... The characteristic sound of CCR. Actually, I'd say the song that I found less interesting is the cover ("The night is the right time"). So, this is between 4 and 5 stars, but I'm leaning 5 because all original songs are at least 4 stars, and they have at least 3 great songs.
hell yeah brother
# Album Name: Green River # Artist: Creedence Clearwater Revival # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: Absolute beast of an album. Its short but sweet. What a delightful album. Some big hitters on this but the whole album flows so well. I love that american country blues feel. # Top Tunes: Whole damn thing is a banger. # Would I listen to it again? Yeah!
good one! love the 70s vibe of it, great band
A lot of these aren’t worthy of this list I’m my opinion, but this one totally is. 5 stars
I loved this album. More than I thought I would. Happy to see them on the list
Top Notch
Simple, essential
maybe the greatest american band? certainly one of. not their best (cosmo's factory), but still a five star album.
Crisp 1/2hr of music
I LOVE this album. A great example of the gritty swamp rock sound they represented. Credence Clearwater Revival was my introduction to Rock Music in my youth. Perfect instrumentation and song writing. Listening to this album on headphones always gives me the “goosies “
Great album. A lot of classics that I already knew, but I'd never listened to the full album before. Just a lot of fun. Bad Moon Rising is so good - I love a song that has a real juxtaposition between the lyrics and the music. Fav song: Bad Moon Rising Least fav: Cross-Tie Walker
Fav- wrote a song for everyone 5/5
My husband loved this and I loved this - he's a pretty harsh critic, so 5 it is!
An amazing album with song songs, blues and a lot of soul. Outstanding.
Great album.
All great songs. Could listen to this anytime.
Foundational. Put these guys next to the rolling stones.
"Green River" is the second of three albums released in 1969 by Creedence Clearwater Revival and is an excellent record. The production is lean, favouring disciplined, blues and R&B-oriented arrangements. The song writing is remarkably consistent, balancing radio-friendly tracks with deeper cuts. This album makes me smile. Five stars. I do wish that John Fogerty could get the ownership of his master recordings back, as the CCR catalogue really is in need of a reissue by someone who actually gives a damn! Side one 1 "Green River" (5/5) 2 "Commotion" (4/5) 3 "Tombstone Shadow" (4/5) 4 "Wrote a Song for Everyone" (5/5) Side two 1 "Bad Moon Rising" (5/5) 2 "Lodi" (5/5) 3 "Cross-Tie Walker" (4/5) 4 "Sinister Purpose" (5/5) 5 "The Night Time Is the Right Time" (4/5) Total - 41 Average - 4.56 289/1001 153/289 albums reviewed were new to me
I admit I'm biased to liking Creedence Clearwater Revival already. This has Green River and Bad Moon Rising on it so it's getting 5 stars but I hadn't ever listened to it all the way through. I really enjoyed Wrote A Song For Everyone and Lodi as well. Would listen again with probably no skips
Garten, Gerstetten, Deutschland. Fantastisches Album.
Clásico, me gustó mucho. Me encanta la voz ronca
Excelente album, buenas canciones, buen ritmo y banda legendaria.
Hey you weren’t born in a bayou!
Already listened to many many times ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Awesome
Giving it a 5. John Fogerty’s voice! Classic, perfect rock and roll.
a true classic - some irreplaceable treasures
The ONLY song I didn't get in to was the last one. No shade to CCR, I just like the Ray Charles version more. Otherwise another flawless Creedence album.
Pick up a flat rock, skip it across Green River. Everywhere you look there's a frown, frown, Com Commotion. Tombstone Shadow, stretching across my path, everytime I get some good news, ooh there's a shadow on my back. Saw the people standing, thousand years in chains, somebody said it's different now, but look it's just the same. I see the bad moon rising, I see trouble on the way, I see earthquakes and lightning, I see bad things today. If I only had a dollar, for every song I sung, everytime I've had to play while people sat there drunk, you know I'd catch the next train, back to where I live, oh lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again. Ain't no sand in my pocket, never do sit down, I'm just a cross-tie walker, where the freight trains run. When the sky is Grey and the Moon is hate, I'll be down to get you, roots of earth will shake, Sinister Purpose, knocking at your door.
This is an awesome album
Mf Creedence. Fav tracks: Green River, Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Sinister Purpose. Saved a song: Y RYM: N
Total classic, swampy as hell from start to end and still nothing else sounds like CCR. Had the privilege to see John Fogerty a few years back and he is the real deal. Not a bad song on the album and everyone in the country can pick up the singles in half a second, that is true staying power.
CCR, Green River. Classic, love it !
I actually love this album. It was great if you actually like music.
very very classic but i was excited to find new songs just as good as the ones i grew up with!
Great LP, the middle of the fabled trio of albums released in 1969. Some filler - good cover of "The Night Time is the Right Time" and some (meh) instrumentals - but Lodi! Green River! Bad Moon! Enough said!
Easy to listen, full of nostalgic
10/10
Awesome album. Every song is a banger. Even the added instrumental songs on the deluxe addition rule. Wrote a Song for Everyone is one of their best deep tracks.
The best of the 69 trilogy, and my favourite CCR album. Builds on the foundations of Bayou Country, and a lot of bluesy vibes on it.
Bangers and consistent quality throughout. What's not to love
5.
LOVED THIS ONE. Very nice experience, liked A LOT the instrumental 10/10
Creedence was on of the most prolific bands of the late 60s and early 70s, and none of it was bloated with filler. Green River is no exception!
Really strong opening and kept delivering. Really liked the feelings and vibes of this one and to end it with the live performances sounding so clean but gritty at the same time. Loved it, great music
CCR's brief career consisted of many great albums, such as this one. Not my favorite CCR, but the band is so good that's not really a problem.
Classic
Whoa! Class of Classic Rock Volume 1!!!
Clássico roque and roll de caipira

Album 1031 of 1089 Green River - Creedence Clearwater Revival (1969) Rating : 4.5 / 5 These songs have been bouncing around the airwaves for as long as I can remember, and this album is about as close as it gets to a pure definition of classic rock. The strength here is the songs themselves. Track after track just works. There’s nothing flashy or overthought - just tight songwriting, steady grooves, and John Fogerty’s instantly recognizable vocals carrying the day. The album flows smoothly from start to finish, and every track sounds unmistakably like CCR, which is a compliment in itself. You always know exactly who you’re listening to. There may not be any surprises here, but there doesn’t need to be. This is a band doing what they did best, at the height of their powers. Familiar without feeling tired, simple without being boring - just solid, dependable rock music that’s earned its place over time.
makes me wanna go to the country road to see my grandma
Gr8
Another CCR record, and of course it's another cracker. Do these guys ever miss?
Yes
Love this shit. Feel like I should be riding from gig to gig in my pickup. Love how you can hear the percussion.
YESSSSSSS
Love everything about this album. Love the blends of rock, blues and southern imagery. I would happily get lost downriver again.
John Fogerty is amazing.
A thoroughly enjoyable listen. “Green River,” “Bad Moon Rising,” and “Lodi” are classics, and the lesser known tracks have just as much to offer by way of grooves, riffs, and great rhythms. Not the best CCR record I’ve heard but definitely deserves a spot on the list.
i love this album and i love ccr
Classic album. Lots of radio play hits on this.
A long jam session. Mostly music, not much singing.
Classic
🥞
I forgot how much I loved Creedence Clearwater. I mean i love 'bad moon rising' and have for years but the whole album is so good! Just good work vibes music.
Loved this album and introduced me to more CCR.
Every song a gem
Excellent album. Full of songs I remember hearing throughout my life. It epitomizes the soul of CCR.
It’s a really cool record. Loved the guitar tones and a young John Fogerty was writing some of the greatest songs of that generation
Just incredible. Top shelf 90s west coast hip hop (skits and all!)
some quintessential americana here, too bad we live in dystopia now and they don't make shit like this anymore
roots rock!
My dad loved Creedence, it's a very nostalgic album for me.
These guys know how to write a song man
Overall: 9/10 John Fogerty was really on something during '69, writing banger after banger. The covers aren't as mind blowing for me, and I prefer Bayou Country and Willy and the Poor Boys, but this album is still just do great and has an awesome atmosphere to it. Fav Song: Bad Moon Rising
Ihan mielettömän tymäkät soundit, ja biisejäkin ihan sieltä ykköskorista nimiraidan lisäksi Wrote A Song for Everyone, Bad Moon Rising, Commotion, Lodi ja Tombstone Shadow. Helppo vitska!
Absolutely quality! So uplifting and some absolute bangers on there! Great production and musicianship. 🥰
First album :)
5 stars I love the country / southern vibes !! my favourite tracks are bad moon rising, cross-tie walker , lodi and green river, Lodi is a particular favourite
Really great!
lol every credence album sounds like a best of credence. Stand outs tracks are the ones you’d think. Green River, Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Commotion 4/5
Day one of the 1001 albums generator, and a pleasant surprise; been familiar with CCR since as long as I can remember, but was yet to listen to Green River completely (or consciously at least, cause I’m certain dad played it throughout my entire childhood). Such a great album, and reading their bio, I’m definitely more appreciative of the actual scale of their influence, fame and legacy as a pillar of American (and by extension, global) rock n’ roll. I’ll be careful with how I describe and compare albums of this period against my contemporary brain, but Green River is honestly about as fresh and polished of a rock sound I can picture for this point in time. The influences are varied and deep and full of character; soulful, bluesy, and folky, it captures an exact essence of America I now understand to be at the heart of the bands myriad classics. The fact they were only even together for four years and produced multiple all-time records regardless is astounding, definitely a point of inspiration for me to get more into bands as a whole; just too many stories and characters to learn about through their music. Sonically, the blues bass swing and perfectly distorted guitar tone are highlights for me on GR, just lay a foundation of fun and energy which perfectly platform Fogarty’s iconic vocal performance; deep in the mix, charismatic, and textured. Favourite songs (beyond the great Bad Moon Rising) are the incredible title track ‘Green River’, a world-builder that takes us back to the Fogarty brothers childhood days by the river, ‘Tombstone Shadow’, my favourite vocal performance of the album in a song about fate and luck, attached to experiences with specific characters (the Gypsy man from San Berdoo) which add such an important aestheticism to the album for me, and not something I really find in a lot of contemporary stuff as its all so internalised, as well as ‘The Night Time is the Right Time’, a confident blues banger with rich backing vocals that I just adore. Also love the instrumental ‘Broken Spoke Shuffle’, guitar tone is smoother and makes for such a pretty effect on an already fluid riff. Conceptually, I see the album almost as a book of fables about manhood from the Fogarty boys, full of struggles, characters, locations and successes, set behind a mirage of nostalgia and longing for a simpler childhood by the Green River. Overall, a very important album that I love and have definitely heard more than I know.
I had to come back and rerate this album, it felt wrong to leave it at a measly four star rating. This album has such a distinct sound, and there is not a skip to be had on the track list. My only critic on my first listen was that "songs tend to blend together due to the homogeneous sound". But presently, I have to disagree, I think of each song as it own separate, very enjoyable, thing. Five stars. (Favorite track: Bad Moon Rising.)
Brilliant loved it
This is one of their best albums and has a lot of bangers on it. Anyone who rates this less than 5 stars is crazy.
C'mon, it's CCR
Phew, this never seems to lose an ounce of its potency. (4.5 but I’m rounding up)
🫶🏻
CCR had such an insane 4 year run. 7 albums and seemingly a hit song every month. This album is a little less than 30 minutes yet makes its impact with banger after banger. Playing is great from everybody. Reading this band's accomplishments doesn't even seem real. These guys were fucking huge and are forever going to go down as the sound of American music
Their second of three 1969 albums, 29 minutes of economic rockabilly. It just feels right and this band could’ve been the next biggest band of them all. Fabulous music
Love this classic
Great album. Not much more to say that hasn't been said before and will be said by a million others. Classic rock at its best...maybe played too much on classic rock radio? Easy 5 stars.
Similar to Ray Charles (whose “Modern Sounds...” I recently had the opportunity to listen to and review), CCR had a formative influence on styles as diverse as country, blues, and hard rock, inspiring countless bands far beyond these genres. Ultimately, I can't say whether “Green River” was their strongest album, but it is an extremely tasteful piece of rock history. In my opinion, it makes little sense to highlight individual songs, as I would then have to list at least eight of the eleven tracks included. A must for anyone interested in music and a special recommendation for anyone who has even the slightest interest in blues rock!
Great album
Fogerty's voice has traveled the airwaves into our subconscious and is, at this point, a statement in itself, but the uncredited genius behind this album is Fogerty's guitar playing, at once simple, vigorous, and persuasive. I hate to discount the rest of the group, and I know they must be essential in their own ways, but CCR is a remarkable proposal b/c John Fogerty literally does it all: never backed by another member's voice until the very last track, he strums and notates these songs to classic status. W/ lyrics like 'Old Cody Junior took me over / Said, "You're gonna find the world is smolderin',"' one can only admire how much of an influence he must've been on Springsteen and the folk literati who wanted to be more down to earth than impressive.
Yeah!!
Creedence is always a good listen.
Brilliant, top shelf
Rootsy as all hell. I really enjoyed it, even my girlfriend was getting into some of the jammier ones. Impressive the keen eye they already had for the band.
Solid album - start to finish.
This album is really well done. So many good songs on it. My absolute favorite Creedence song, Bad Moon Rising is on it. Hard to rate this anything but 5 stars. It's perfect length too. It's amazing that these guys are from San Francisco, you'd think they were from Louisiana or somewhere in the south. Swamp Rock at it's finest. Nobody did it better. 5/5
Great album
Absolute classic. Can listen to it start to finish, not skip a track.
Great songs... a great band... all timer... Five STARs!
Swamp it up!
After last week’s running theme of “bands I successfully swerved in the 90s seeking retribution” I am off to a great start with some classic 70s gold. Have heard this album many times but it still feels fresh. Never before has swamp rock been so polished, so vibrant. You really wrote songs for everyone John Fogerty, never stop rocking.
It was fun to learn about Fogerty and CCR. Crazy to think about the amount and quality of songs that he created in the 1975-1969 span.
Blijft leuk.
What can I say, I just love Creedence clearwater revival. Just great rock and roll but with great lyrics and melodies. Just sounds amazing
Really great album. Before starting the challenge I wanted to visit some CCR so this was perfect timing.
This was awesome
I am writing this from the orlando’s mexican bathroom with nobody watching the grill so it’s going to be quick I really enjoy the style of this album I love the vocal melodies and the guitar lines a lot I felt like most the songs were pretty catchy but not in a calculated pop way. I don’t have any problems about this album but I only thought there was two songs that were super amazing tho top songs tombstone shadow wrote a song for everyone
Good listen throughout whole album. Great vocals, instruments, song writing and just fun to listen to!
If we pretend Mardi Gras doesn't exist this is probably the "worst" Creedence album. Still filled with incredible tunes.
great vibes
Once again a perfect roadtrip album.
Yes
Great record! I knew some of the songs, but was almost more impressed by the ones I hadn't heard.
I have an original vinyl of this. One of the most poorly designed album covers of all time. One of the best records of all time
I saved every single track on the record so I guess that makes it a perfect 5. Its just so damn sick. The band is a whole lot more than just fortunate son. Just give it a go. Easy
Really like CCR these guys are🔥🔥🔥🔥
Eggselent
They had so many hits
Is there a bad CCR Album?
This is an iconic album and an all-time classic. There's no disputing how good this record is top-to-bottom. It is easily one of those legacy record that you just nod and agree is awesome.
Classic album. 5.0/5.0: Iconic
its no cosmos factory but its still a banger
Summer of 1969, the time of Woodstock and the first term of Nixon and Creedence Clearwater Revival are on a roll. Not satisfied with dropping one album this year, they'd gifted their swelling audience with another called Green River and it continues to showcase their penchant for precise, economical compositions that get to the point rather than meander and lose focus halfway through. Whether it riffs off the blessed rock and roll past or it keeps chooglin' along with the efforts of John Fogerty, Green River is as potent a record as Creedence could offer at the time and, fortunately for us, they'd scale bigger heights and become even better over time.
Super
Classic blues rock, on an album short enough that the end sneaks up on you. Excellent listening.
Great
Loved - the album really captured that time of America
Great album. All very good songs. Great voice. Good energy. Stand out song: Green river
loved. great vibes.
Really love CCR… classic
fav track: sinister purpose
The album that reminds us "there's a bathroom on right." It is also worth noting that the Highway Patrol recovered The Dude's tape. Thank goodness the boss at the crime lab had them boys working in shifts!
I love the guitars sound and the whole atmosphere which transport you into a long road trip in the middle of nowhere
This has always been one of my favorite albums that my sister introduced me to. There is not a bad song on here, but Green River is exceptional!
So good !!!!*
This is probably a solid 4.5 for me, but I'll bump it up to 5 because it's just so good. My only knock against it is that CCR is just really fun blues rock but nothing groundbreaking is happening here. A couple of the songs felt a bit generic. But still a good 5 star album. Nothing skippable, easy to listen to but with some standout songs for sure.
Legendary - the dude abides
Perhaps it is because they released so many albums in such a short period of time (this was one of three they put out in 1969 alone) it can be hard to distinguish one CCR record from the rest. But they are all good. Green River perhaps doesn't have as many instantly recognisable songs as others but it does contain "Bad Moon Rising" and "Lodi" and the cover of "The Night Time is the Right Time" is as well chosen and stands out just as much as their celebrated cover of "I Heard it Through the Grapevine". Like AC/DC, Creedence had essentially one sound, but what a great sound; murky and swampy, steeped in the bayou despite originating in California. It is incredibly distinctive and recognisable. No wonder that when John Fogerty was sued for plagiarising himself the judge essentially said, Of course it sounds like him, it is him...
Self explanatory
Classic “swamp” music.
I was pretty sure I was going to love this album and I did. It was interesting reading a bit about the disconnect between the swamp rock content of their music and their origins in San Francisco. I definitely have a soft spot for the Americana of Mark Twain and John Steinbeck and this music fits in there perfectly. This was my first CCR album and perhaps if there are more I will get tired of the sound but as of now I can't get enough of this.
CCR!!! What’s not to love??!!!? Interesting read about the origins of many of the song lyrics. The lyrics still resonate today and evoke almost universal themes of childhood memories, freedom, strife and longing.
Loved it
Really good
18/08/2025 An easy 5 stars. At time of listening 29.8 million listeners.
I love this band. Green River and Lodi are my favorites on this one.
Amazing voice, all excellent songs, I love this vibe! Just a classic!
CCR is so underrated. Lodi is one of their best songs. Great album all around.
Now we're talking, this is an absolute must listen. John Fogerty and CCR were on another level 1968-70. John's vocals and the bands twangy bluesy bayou southern rock (even though they are from California) is just so perfect. They capture their time and era in every song while creating music that is just as good almost 60 years later. For my money, no one was making better music in the late 60s than CCR, in a sea of amazing music and artist. It is a shame John's ego was as big as it was, because these guys could've broken the music industry I also don't fault John's ego being what it is/was, he was pretty much the reason they were relevant. Before John took over everything in the band, they were a mediocre local act. But the band wanted their say in the music too. Fogerty solo was no where near as good as CCR. 9.5/10 142/1001
I didn't realize I had heard so many of these songs!
It is rumored, the only bigger fan of CCR is Mrs. Fogerty, and I give her that honor having two sons in the band. CCR was one of the first bands with which I fell in love as my music tastes first started to dramatically change in the late 60's. "GREEN RIVER" was not my favorite CCR album, but it was tied for second, with three others. To this day, I always love hearing John Fogerty let loose. They were a comet that burst upon the sky and for the five short years of their journey, there was simply no one better.
Hit after hit after hit. An album that plays better than most bands career spanning greatest hits, and it was only one of six in a two year span to boot! 5/5
Uno de esos 4,5 que subo a 5
Truly great. A top 5 American band
Completely singular band.
Lodi was the best of the best
Better than Coldplay
Own it
CCR has a sound and they stick to it but damn if it's not exceptional
Something something Big Lebowski reference
Great band
classic album by a great band
Solid from start to finish.
Another really solid release from Creedence, these guys were on a tear. So many great songs here from arguably America's best band.
Incredible band
Shockingly good, Lodi and Wrote A Song for Everyone are the 2 tracks that I hadn't heard before that stood out to me, I will be listening to this in full again. The title track fucks as well. 5 stars.
I loved this album. Short and sweet. Every track is an adventure. I've always been a big fan of CCR so it was no surprise to me.
I only know their most famous songs but listening to this just felt like I’d listened several times before. I don’t really know what else to say, I just had a great time listening to this and already added to my library for further listens. I’ll also look forward to their other entries to this list.
Great album!
One of those that I think I never need to hear again, and yet every time I do, it sounds even better. How a band this loose sounds this tight is a mystery of record production. Also John Fogerty's raspy voice is one of the best instruments in rock 'n' roll.
John Fogerty's got it!
It's CCR. Of course it's 5 Stars?!
I dont like country rock but this is the one band thats not only decent but actually all albums are great. Their country rock with blues mixture is amazing unique sound for that time
Absolutely fantastic! I grew up with the CCR hits compilation, Chronicle, as a regular cassette in the rotation on family road trips. While I am intimitely familiar with all of the hits, I never did dive into the rest of the catalog. So far so good, as this album was thoroughly enjoyable. No surprises, but just A+ quality tunes start to finish.
I understand why the dude was upset.
Awesome listen!!! Loved it!
3/1001 :: Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River Heard before? ❌ Would I revisit? ✅ Rating: 9 Fav Tracks: Tombstone Shadow, Bad Moon Rising, Sinister Purpose Frankly I haven’t spent enough time with Creedence and while celebrated I feel like they’re a bit underrated. The Apple Music liner notes said when they made Green River in 1969 they were at the “height of their powers” and to my ear that rang to be true. This album is incredible. Frankly I thought every song was pretty damn good if not great… If I had one criticism of the album it’s that there’s not much innovation happening here. They’re all Southern rock blues based tunes but they’re doing it at a super high level. Sinister Purpose is the one song here where they seem to break the mold into something that almost sounds more mechanical and dare I say Post Punk-ish… I will be buying this on vinyl at some point
YEAHHHH!!! HELL YEAH BROTHER PLAY THAT GUITAR
This album has to be a 5 for me. I know basically all of these songs, and they're all bangers. Fun to listen to, fun to play, and just good music.
This is another excellent CCR album, which has a touch of rock-a-billy and country flavor. I know and like every tune except “Sinister Purpose”, which I never heard.
Jeg elsker at hænge ud med the boys
This album brought back so many great memories. I loved every song on it.
I love CCR and this has so many of the tracks I know on it. Good the whole way through
Has to be one of my favorites- even though I never listened to the entire album before today.
So Good!
great
Cómo no ponerles mi 5
Good groove rock all time classic sound
CCR is just classic Southern Rock. Fogerty’s scrachy voice is unmistakable. Green River, Bad Moon Risimg and Lodi are timeless classics. The rest of the album is like a smooth southern whiskey. Just goes down easy! Great album from an Hall of Fame band.
Love this! Very fun and sets a unique vibe.
The best electric/swamp blues album ever made by white guys from California. Completely sinister sounding and more menacing than any punk album, Green River is a go-to soundtrack for a road-trip, Halloween party or burying a drifter's body in the woods.
Classic CCR. I remember these songs from my childhood when Top 40 radio was blaring at the public swimming pool in the summertime. Sweet memories.
Amazing band and album. Top 100 for sure.
Well, I guess it's only fitting for me to get two CCR albums in the same week given how all of their albums were released in such close proximity with one another. I can't be upset though. Creedence Clearwater Revival is one of those bands whose success just makes sense. These guys knew how to make great music, and Green River is proof of that. I liked Bayou Country quite a bit, but I knew it could be improved upon. Lo and behold, CCR managed to do that just 7 months later. The fact that they released so many albums in such a short time is insane to me given how good they (presumably) all are. Green River is fantastic. It's only 29 minutes long, but it is 29 minutes of great music with no room for filler whatsoever. This may just be the greatest sub-30-minute-long album ever made. Maybe it's not though. I still haven't gotten Pink Moon yet. Come to think of it, Reign in Blood is also under 30 minutes, and I think I like that album more. Forget the other things I said. Let's go back to praising Green River. Everything that worked on Bayou Country is improved upon in this album. John Fogerty's writing is as strong as ever. Songs like the title track provide strong imagery, while "Bad Moon Rising" has such a unique blend of a happy feel and fearful lyrics that I absolutely love. The musicianship here is incredibly consistent. Again, there's no room for filler. All 9 songs are great. CCR proves themselves once again with an album that hasn't aged a day in the 50+ years since its release. It's great. Low 5/5.
I could listen to this all day!
CCR is the definition of "Classic Rock". That 60s/70s hippie rock that is such a distinctive, iconic sound. "Bad Moon Rising" is obviously the biggest hit here but the title track "Green River" is one of their best songs too, and that's saying a lot. This is a great album, and the scary part is it may not even be their best album, and the scary part of that is that you could probably make that case for any of their albums. One of the greatest bands of all time, putting out constant hits. Easy to see why they are on this list!
I never thought I would finish an album on here and go that is all. The album was finished and I thought there must be more. It made me want more songs from these guys. This was a great one.
I didn’t realize that they did some of these songs which were fantastic
Fuck yeah
Rocking songs
Dobre, klasyczne. Pierwsza piosenka klasyk. Kilka zapisanych. Gitary
Discazo.
i love it. Great songs and vibe. Great albums dont have to be complex.
Wonderful!
CCR has so much emotional value to me since their music is deeply tied into my family. however, I never listened to an album in full I think. thanks to this amazing record I caught up on that
This album reminds me of the movie "Almost Famous." I don't know if CCR is on that soundtrack, but that's the vibe here. Just a bunch of traveling free-spirits. His vocals are energizing and exciting. Singing to good-time tunes. "Bad Moon Rising" is one of the all time greats.
This will always be one of my favourite albums of all time.
A routine listen for me, this album is just fantastic.
5/5
So much better than the eagles
I love this album. For some reason feels homey and comforting. Has a twang that makes it feel like a summer time but also serious songs. Great listen front to back
9/10 - Tuesday, April 15th
Great
Another great record from CCR. This one packs a lot into just 29 minutes. Four massive hits and the rest of the songs are great too. If this band had lasted longer they could have dominated the 70's
> The Beatles I mean... come on
classic
Solid album. CCR is awesome so I expected no less.
5 stars cause my wife likes it.
Sinister Purpose and Tombstone Shadow are hard as hell. Gem from an absolute classic band. Would listen again.
Made me hard
That classic rock vibe which still resonates today. Is there anything else like CCR in the modern age? Appreciate the original.
The lone negative here - there’s nothing quite as earwormy as “Big wheel keep on Tu’y’nin” or “just got home from Illinois, locked the front door - oh boy” which are maybe my favourite pronunciations and lyrics in any of Fogerty’s music. With that said, as you would expect, I love this. Same vocal quality I love from all CCR music, same clean guitars. Bad Moon Rising’s core riff is so simple but makes me smile every time. ‘Wrote a song for everyone’ is such a lovely listen in the middle of this, it’s got real soul to it & the album slows down to make sure it stands out. Some covers of ‘The Night Time is the Right Time’ change the line from the backup singers in between each line of the chorus to “night and day” but not CCR - the original “wah-do-ay” will do just fine.
Singles band, but they were so focused and stylistically defined that a collection of any of their singles works as an album - ie chronicle 1 and 2 could just be american ass albums with as much thematic unity. Anyway green river an all time great. People keep a talking they don't say a word/ Jaw jaw jaw jaw jaw.
There's a bathroom on the right.
"Green River" is the third studio album by American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival. Swamp rock, blues rock, rock and roll and Americana are the Wiki-listed genres. Yep! It was their second of three albums released in 1969. Yikes...not sitting around are they? If you don't know, the band is John Fogerty (vocals, lead guitar, piano, keyboards, harmonica, producer and arranger), Tom Fogerty (rhythm guitar), Stu Cook (bass) and Doug Clifford (drums). The album hit #1 in the US and #20 in the UK and had universal acclaim. A great guitar riff kicks off "Green River." Here's that swampy rhythm sound. That Fogerty voice. It was about a creek Fogerty used to go to as a kid in Winters, CA, and named after the green river soda. I remember having versions of that in the 70's...at Woolworth's, I believe. "Commotion" starts off with an explosive guitar and fast rhythm section. This might be the fastest CCR song I've heard. Fogerty said NYC and the hustle and bustle of the modern world were the inspirations. This is a really good song I don't remember hearing all that often. Searing guitars solos in the middle and outro. Speaking of good guitar riffs, "Bad Moon Rising" opens side two. The happy-go-lucky music juxtaposed by Fogerty's apocalyptic lyrics. More inspirations for Fogerty, as a 1941 film "The Devil and Daniel Webster" about a hurricane destroying crops was the song's genesis. "Lodi" slows things down as the music takes a melancholic turn. Fogerty tells the plight of a down-and-out musician playing in Lodi (an actual town in California) and he is unable to make enough for a bus fare. Anytime a Greyhound bus is mentioned, the song does not end well. I see you randomizer giving me "Green River" on St. Patrick's Day. Most of these the songs follow the pattern of guitar intro, rhythm section comes in and the song is off. They do it to such perfection. The quality of the guitar, lyrics, vocals and overall music is incredible. A 29-minute album where no time is wasted in these nine songs. All three of these 1969 CCR albums are great. "Green River" happens to be the one in the middle.
Man am I glad I didn’t go five stars for Cosmo’s Factory. Compared to Green River, why is Cosmo’s even on the list? Every song on Green River a banger. Even the ones that don’t seem perfect at first, like Sinister Purpose, has some crazy details and choices that are just next-level. Bravo.
I remember growing up there was some rumblings in music publications that Fogerty’s singing style was “musical appropriation” since they sounded in the singing and music like they were from some gut-bucket part of Louisiana but weren’t in reality. So what; the songs here are so catchy and engaging that the thought doesn’t stick. True, there’s moments when Fogerty sounds a bit forced as he reaches for the spirit of old black blues singers but only for moments.
5/5
There's a bathroom on the right. Great album, holds up. 5/5
I thought this was great.
Dads will listen to this and go “hell yeah”. They got a point
Can’t go wrong with CCR
An absolute gem.
Definitely not the best album cover, but it's what inside that matters! Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Green River, Commotion, Night Time is the Right Time, and Tombstone Shadow are all five-star classics. The remaining songs are solid with the standout of them being Wrote a Song for Everyone. No complaints but just wish it was bit longer. Rating: 5/5
If this was the only album they released that year it would still have been an achievement
I was happy to see this one come up. I have always been a CCR fan. No gimmicks just pure rock and roll.
No tricks. No hippie dippie. Just straight-ahead, workman-like rock and roll. Wait for the Ray Charles cover at the end.
Great
I mean we start off with “Green River” which is a classic. It has so much energy and it just really gets you going! This band is just fun and you can’t help but feel like you want to go dancing on a river boat in the bayou. Like you can’t possibly have any cares in the world when you listen to this. The guitar is just amazing in this song. Very plucky. Stays with you. So much fun! I don’t know what they’re saying and I don’t care.
Just a peach from start to finish, 5 stars ✌️
