Evocative of the late 00s and early 10s. The production still holds up. I think I overplayed this album but still enjoy it occasionally.
Incredible album. Need to revisit this one. I could definitely hear a bit of jeff in his voice.
Great album, loved it for a long time.
Top 3 who album. Absolutely essential.

I always thought that the Folsom prison album was his best, but apparently not. I much prefer this one because it almost sounds like it was made in a recording studio. Great songs, fun interludes and a whole lot of attitude.
I own this album, but I can own up to not listening to it often enough. I completely forgot about the Kate Bush duet! I’m revisiting this one for sure, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great album, loved it for a long time.
Great
Listened to it twice. It didnt disappoint.
Classic
Never heard of this artist before, but it was definitely produced by Phil Spector. I generally enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but there were still some duds.
Brilliant background music, sounds like the kind of thing that would sound incredible on vinyl.
Classic Miles, incredible bops and some great solo moments. On par with sketches of spain imo.
Early instance of ‘rap’ when it was fun, cool and trendy. I knew genius of love, but I didn’t know that each song on this album is at least 4.5 minutes of repetition. Some good moments, but it’s not for me.
Great stuff but not edgy enough
Largely boring and annoying, but not terrible.
Incredible listen. I knew something like this would exist somewhere and i never expected to learn about it from here. Amazing stuff.
Angsty and horny teenager vibe. Sounds like pavement but somehow ten years earlier.
Flowed nicely, annoying at times, some iconic bangers
Noisy, but I kinda liked it. It had driving, punching drums throughout which kept me listening. The throbbing guitar/synth got a little repetitive but it felt like modern take on 70s German Prog. Can’s Tago Mago meets MBV meets Death Grips meets The Fall. This feels somewhat legendary and I need to know more.
From a challenging listen to an easy listen! This was welcomed with open arms, especially since I’ve heard the lead single from this album numerous times. It waned towards the end, but hoping to get a vinyl copy of this.
A classic. Nothing else really sounds like it. I’m not attracted to repeatedly listen to other Björk albums. Just this one.
Never got the hype around this album. It still hasn’t clicked for me.
Enjoyable bubblegum country tuned that flits between cutesy pop songs and heartfelt acoustic ballads. I enjoyed this more than i care to admit. The song ‘Mother’ got me choked up.
Brilliant post punk, but it sounded awful in the car. I think the production is very thin and tinny. Otherwise, I’ve always wanted this on vinyl and I still do.
Definitely his best 70s album. This time around made me appreciate Buckets of Rain a whole lot more. This is for the maudlin types like me.
Cringe
Canadian nostalgia for the 50s. She has a great voice but tries too hard to sound like Elvis.
Brilliant album, nice on the 100th listen too.
Almost like a jazz/lounge album masquerading as ‘electronic’. Not as proggy as tubular bells. I didn’t hate it but didn’t love it either.
Great Cuban music, can’t believe Ry Cooder was prosecuted and ordered to pay $25,000 because this album was in breach of the “trading with the enemy” act.
A bit too big of a jump between genres for this album to feel cohesive. I much prefer rum, sodomy and the lash but the songs here are still important.
Just my kinda thing. I can see it being annoying for some people, but this is what I hope from a prog album.
I don’t doubt the importance of this album, but it isn’t an “everyday listen” kind of thing. I got into this band after watching the BBC documentary Synth Britannia. Nothing sounded like this at the time. Their experimentation ended up being extremely inspirational to the preceding years of electronic music.
Bad glam metal. Why is this here?
One of my favourite bowie albums. He really lets his band loose here. Although more of a cocaine train than earlier albums, but sonically is such a bop.
Pretty good. Great opening track but didn’t blow me away or anything.
Pre-Graceland. Liked the song about John Lennon. Would be a 2.5 but have to give a 3.
I had an open mind, listened to a couple of tracks. Instant dislike.
As far as trip hop goes, this isn’t too bad. Unfinished symphony is incredible. Preferred the female vocalist tbh.
Great album, TQID is better
Pretty good but not viva hate
Classic. The first vinyl record i ever bought.
Enjoyed it a lot more than I expected.
Never was a fan of the breathy singing and sultry incantations. Love the singles though.
I enjoyed this a lot more than i anticipated. It was just so easy to enjoy it. This is like a real sexy record, not the weird Pulp stuff.
Just a classic.
This and Beggars Banquet are the best 60s Stones albums. I love this album front to back.
Just your average 2020s pop album I guess. Never heard of them, not really into it.
One of the greatest albums of all time. My number one radiohead album changes between this album, in rainbows and kid a.
Classic rock. Great single, enjoyed the album.
Great folk guitar album. Love this, mainly because his playing is so great but the singing is good too.
Top 3 punk albums for me. Absolute classic.
A bunch of songs about sex plus purple rain, which is also about sex.
Incredible album. Need to revisit this one. I could definitely hear a bit of jeff in his voice.
Great album. Such a shame how overplayed these singles were in the UK back in the day…
Caught this album in a good mood. Walking around Watford listening to this was a positive experience. I can imagine finding this album repetitive and annoying on another day.
Shitty rave music.
Noisy and boisterous with buckets of attitude. They must have been absolute killers to see live.
Some of the best songwriting of all time. I just wish it was all acoustic, as a lot of the production and arrangements don’t add anything. Get rid of the drums on homeward bound!!! Get rid of them!! I’ve heard this album a lot but The Dangling Conversation stood out on this listen.
A very enjoyable album, but I think I have to be in the mood for it.
Kinda boring idk
Weird prog with some good moments.
The best Kinks album. I will die on that hill. If I could give it a six I would.
My biggest surprise so far. I enjoyed this far more than I expected.
Classic bossanova
Boring
Pretty good but a very short album.
Absolute classic singer songwriter album. The residuals on this must be filthy.
Hard to top this album. One of the all-time best.
An incredible jazz album. Desperately need this.
Not terrible, but just slightly annoying. This is uptempo bar/restaurant music in London.
A bit boring, basically sounds like Ella Fitzgerald.
Not as good as the last hip hop album i got.
Pretty good but couldve been <50 minutes
Great singer/songwriter stuff. Need to return to this.
Pretty good
Decent
Great album
I find this quite annoying. Ms jackson slaps tho
Rip
Not bad but there’s better queen albums
Listening to the first 30 seconds, someone said this album sounds like a toilet. I proceeded to laugh hysterically until the album ended.
Standard motorhead.
Brilliant soul album
Pretty good actually. Only the second album i’ve listened to by this group… maybe i should listen to more
Probably a better listen on vinyl. For me, it felt too long. What was with all the talking between songs too?
Classic LA punk. Lexicon Devil is top 10 punk songs of all time for me
Absolute classic. Top 3 hip hop albums of all time.
Brilliant album. First time listening to it all the way through.
Wasn’t planning on listening to 2 hours of country music on a sunday but here we are. Not bad.
One of the greatest albums of all time.
Great album
Fight the power!
Great songs, but I can’t take more than 15 minutes of bad Nico singing.
A classic but not his best album by any stretch.
Yay another 90s rapper. I swear this is the third wu-tang solo album i’ve had, yet still no 36 chambers.
Great album. My first ever listen! Still prefer big brother and the holding company but after a few more listens i might change minds.
Classic album! One of their best.
Meh
Nope
Boring
Classic!!!!
A crazy, glammy album with so many twists and turns. Definitely returning to this one.
The first song really creeped me out, sorry.
Classic! Opening track hits like nothing else
Overrated imo
Great album!
Decent album with an iconic opener.
A real throwback. Enjoyed this!
Brilliant album, can’t believe I never listened to this FTFT sooner!
Best clash album!
I tried listening to Judas Priest before, but it clicked this time!
Not for me.
Love this album, it’s definitely one you have to be in the mood for.
Kind of liked it, kind of annoying at the same time
Incredible band
Great album, better than tago mago for me
Great album!
Incredible album
RIP
Can’t believe i’ve never even heard of this, this is definitely my kind of album.
Classic but not their best.
Not top 5 stones albums for me. Pretty mid album tracks.
Like Jefferson Airplane but boring.
By far one of the greatest rock and roll albums of all time. Top 3 Stones album for sure
Great back-to-back listen with Prince’s Purple Rain.
Absolute classic
Not too bad actually. Only heard pills ‘n thrills before, but this was quite good.
Great singles, grating as an album
Top 3 who album. Absolutely essential.
Pretty good, actually.
Great songs, don’t like her voice.
Great album, makes me sleepy though.
Not their best, but still good.
Incredible album
I love grunge, but soundgarden has never clicked with me.
Another hour and a quarter of noise and samples.
A bit of a weird one. 4 is miles better.
The aretha album i’ve been waiting for someone to recommend me.
Absolute classic.
Banger after banger
A classic live album that introduced many Ginger Baker fans to the legend that is Fela.
Meh, prefer the debut
Like a trip hop Spacemen 3. Annoying yet great.
Pretty in pink is an incredible song, but im struggling through a whole album of this guy’s voice.
Not too bad, loved thom yorke’s random appearance.
Another incredible album about sex by the icon that is Prince.
Slightly more accessible but still the same old mark e smith.
An incredible debut. Nothing sounds like the B52s.
Ubiquitous in the late 00s and still stands the test of time.
One of the better hip hop albums so far. The rhymes are incredible.
Didn’t expect this album to be here! The ultimate Britpop album. It’s full of teenage angst and pessimism whilst being so evocative of the Quadrophenia era of Britain.
Top 3 Bowie album for sure. Bowie is his young and joyful self in this album. He’s proven what he can do, now he can have fun with it.
Great opener, pretty forgettable afterwards.
Not terrible, just not what I like.
Not bad, but a lot of shouting.
Good album. Never even heard of this artist.
I’ve heard this before but really enjoyed it this time. This is one for the wantlist.
A tight band but with mediocre vocals. I think this one will grow on me over time.
One of the greatest albums ever.
This is rubbish IMO. His best album is by far You’ve Come a Long Way Baby.
A classic, but not their best. Still, this pre-wakeman era was incredible.
Gram Parsons is the name on the album, but he’s the second best vocalist on nearly every song.
For me, this album flits between being a crowning achievement and a generic blues rock album. On this listen, I leaned towards the former.
The same opinion I have for nearly all of his albums: great writing but insufferable vocals.
A bit noisy for me.
Classic album with his two best solo songs.
A bit bland for me. This album gets recommended a lot for people who like Zappa, but it’s just plain jazz rock.
Incredible 80s indie rock. Probably my favourite REM album.
I mean… I thought I liked this but as an album it’s difficult to listen to all the way through. I love the song poptones though.
Just no. I should like it but I hate it.
The third best AF album.
Not too bad but not enough of the hits to be a standout.
Classic through and through
I understand its significance but I think it would be an incredible album experience on vinyl; much better than the Spotify crap.
Hip hop classic. One of the greatest albums of the 90s.
Some people need this album prescribed to them. Anita’s voice is so soothing.
Pretty good actually. Some incredible guitarwork.
Incredible album, almost timeless. For some reason I always preferred the first album but I enjoy this one more now.
Least favourite of the Waits albums i’ve listened to. I’d rather just read the lyrics.
If I could rate this 2.5 I would. It was absolutely my mid point in the likeability scale.
Terrible album cover and yet… Groove is in the heart.
A decent album, better than I expected. This album was a lot more popular in the 70s/80s but for some reason it’s fallen in the ranks in recent years. Is Harvest better than this? I’m not 100% certain it is.
One of the greatest indie albums of all time and it’s their debut!
Not too bad actually. The singles are iconic too.
One of my favourite jazz albums of all time. Iconic opener.
Tried this before because it’s seen as an essential indie album and didn’t like it. I warmed up to it this time but it still wasn’t amazing or anything.
Not their best by any stretch, but an essential 90s indie album.
Just straight blues rock with shredding guitars and Rod’s hoarse voice.
First couple of tracks are bangers. The rest all sounds the same.
There are better Abba albums, but it’s nice to have an Abba album with a bunch of deep cuts i’ve never heard before.
I respect it, but just not my thing at all.
Not my cup of tea but I respect the legend.
Not awful, but won’t listen again.
Incredible. How did I miss this?
The singles are overly played but the deep cuts are incredible.
Incredible. First time listening to it and I was blown away.
Incredible album by the Jam. That’s Entertainment and Start! are brilliant singles, plus the deep cuts are a treat compared to other albums.
I enjoyed this one. Quite chilled.
Classic. My favourite Dylan album.
That bassline sent me to Jupiter.
Not the best.
Standard 90s rap. Great bars but I hate the skits.
I was 5 years old when this album came out. When I put it on, it took me back to sitting in the back of my mum’s car falling asleep on a long car journey.
What I like about this album is that it’s genuinely heartfelt. Al shows a lot of personality in his voice.
Started off strong, soon got boring.
One of the greatest albums of all time.
Incredible CCR album.
Nope
Brilliant album. Very much slept on.
Probably the best Beck album.
I understand Eminem is huge and he his album is one of the best, yadda yadda. Couldn’t listen for more than 15 minutes.
I’m on the fence with this. I recognise its genius, but I only listen to it every few years.
Quintessential Dylan.
Not the worst country i’ve listened to. A lot of blues influence in this.
Drum and bass! Some electronica I can get on board with.
I strangely enjoyed this! It has me curious.
Love the hits. Sometimes Janis turns it up a little bit too much.
Sunday bloody sunday and new years day are my favourite U2 songs. It’s just frustrating that it’s so front-loaded, as the last few songs on the album are either terrible or forgettable.
Absolutely slaps, even with the weirdest deep cuts.
One of the greatest albums of all time.
The funkiest album on this list. Don’t let anyone say otherwise.
The opening track is the greatest Sparks song of all time. The rest of the album stinks compared with Propaganda.
Front-loaded but still great.
I thought smooth operator would be the best track, but I was surprised at how weak it was compared to the other tracks.
Not what I expected. Great voice, interesting songwriting. Almost Scott Walker ish.
A low droning voice with quiet melodies… and it isn’t that bloke Leonard Cohen!
For me, this is the worst album The Police ever made.
Not the greatest Cure album but definitely an important one. There are some great tunes on here, the pre-cursors to some of the best albums of the 80s.
I enjoyed this far more than I should have. Reminded me of Happy Mondays.
It’s difficult trying to decide a top three of Stooges studio albums. For me, this is consistently number one.
Just the best Prince album. I wish the last side wasn’t part of the album but like a bonus disc thing.
Classic REM. Need this on vinyl.
Madonna went in a completely new direction with this one. Another banger CD my mum would’ve cranked in the family SUV in the mid 2000s.
Fun but not ethereal like Astral Weeks.
Goes hard at first, then slowly devolves to bland hard rock. I respect the New York Dolls contribution to music and punk rock, but no one does glam like the UK.
This album is a vibe. It’s not the most easy to listen to but the raw attitude and unique nature make it an incredible listen.
Brilliant album… just not as good as Tin Drum.
An absolute classic for my generation. Full of bangers.
Noisy crap, out of tune, what the hell is this, SWEET DREAMS ARE MADE OF THESE, back to the weird stuff okay, not too bad but whatever.
I’m not big on Springsteen, but this album felt personal and stripped down. Not the tunes that get overplayed. That being said, the tunes are still a standard 4 bars (booooring) and the lyrics are the highlight once again.
I really want to like this album but I just don’t. I will definitely try again at a later stage because I love Damon.
A great folk album. I should’ve visited Donavan during my 60s phase, somehow I missed him!
Awesome cut from Dinosaur Jr. very fuzzy and psychedelic.
Not heard this cut from Joni before. It’s now one of my favourites.
Just a classic album. A brilliant introduction to a prolific visionary.
The Jam is one of my favourite bands of all time. When I first got into them, I learned about Weller’s transition into Style Council and tried listening to the first album. To say I hated it might be an overstatement, but the sentiment was there: it was nothing like the Jam. This was my first time revisiting the band, with a new set of ears and an open mind. I absolutely love it!
Top three Stones album for me. I love this more than Let it Bleed.
Incredible songwriting. Not the best remaster, so I think I’ll be seeking a vinyl copy.
Incredible.
Incredible musicianship and great vibe.
One of the greatest albums of all time. I find it painfully underrated.
This album just shouts in your face in a way that most albums try but fail.
As a Nirvana album, it’s probably in the top 3 live albums for me but doesn’t rank higher than live at Reading. The thing I hate about this album, although having nothing to do with the album itself, is the reason why I don’t listen to it. 15 years ago when it was introduced to me, or even just now on the internet, you couldn’t mention this album without being told that this is the best MTV unplugged album and that the Bowie cover is better than the original. It pisses me off to no end because it should be a music fan’s gateway to other unplugged albums or to Bowie’s early albums. But no, I have to be lectured by 13 years olds that Nirvana is the best at everything when they’re either regurgitating what they read online or can’t be bothered listening to other albums. Well how about this? The Alice in Chains unplugged album is a much better album and the Bowie cover is shit compared to the original track. This album gets boring just as Sunbeam starts.
An insane undertaking. What possesses someone to dedicate this amount of effort and creativity in this way? Incredible music but the lyrics are just wild.
Do I have to? As always with Kanye, the production is good but the bars are god awful.
This is like the Melvins meets Beefheart… but it’s total dogshit. I kind of enjoyed human cannonball though.
I don’t understand why this is an essential album to be quite honest.
A great all-rounder of a rock and roll album. Morrison’s finest moment in my opinion.
This is what I think of when I think of country music. Not bad but I could only listen to it occasionally. Doesn’t really suit the vibe of rainy England in December
Not my thing but appreciate the arrangements.
Fast cars and then all the rest of the songs.
One of the greatest albums of all time. I live and breathe it.
Trippy
A classic album that really polarises people. It’s either a drunk rambling in a faux accent or a transcendent road trip album. I’m with the latter.
Incredible beats and some of my favourite flows. Loved the MM feature.
Love this more than I care to admit.
Papa was a rolling stone hasn’t really clicked for me yet, but I still enjoyed the album.
A good hip hop background album. Some of the lyrics were cringe but not all.
What a crazy mix of vibes. From “oh I like this it’s catchy” to “what the hell is this noise” within the space of 2 minutes.
I have always loved this album. I know that the vocals aren’t for everyone, but I have a recurring dream that I walk into a random bar in a small town and stumble upon 90s Sleater-Kinney shredding whilst bewildered bikers on bar stools can’t help but vibe.
An absolute classic. My favourite Christmas album.
I mean… sure. Ray was apparently the greatest live performer. His albums are okay.
I enjoyed the hell out of this. It’s thrown my understanding of what my music taste is out the effing window.
A classic but not their best
This album’s pitch was “Let’s take the best rock songs of the 70s and make them boring for the 80s.” Why does Ringo get the bad rep when this drummer exists?
Never heard this one before but it was pretty good! It felt quirky and unpredictable.
I understand that the lyrics hold a lot of weight, and Faithfull is almost preaching like a 1966 Dylan, but her voice takes some getting used to. Love the songs on here though.
Incredible voice but the songs aren’t very imaginative. The Prince cover just sounds like a cheap knock-off with no originality. Carey sounds great but her style of riffing single notes ruined music forever.
An absolute classic that’s under appreciated. I understand that a lot of the songs are covers or “stolen”, but Cream on my Mount Rushmore of trio bands. Cream are bar none the most influential band of the 60s.
A great album for the time, but a bit tame by the Chili Peppers standards.
Just garbage.
Incredible live album. The band sound like they’ve been playing together for years, yet they still sound youthful and bright. Early James Brown is just bread and butter, isn’t it?
Iconic grunge album, some would say one of the best grunge albums of all time. For me, it’s definitely the best AiC studio album. I’m not a guitar guy but I love Cantrell on this. I love the rhythm section, guitars, vocals and just everything. Although not a perfect album, I just love it.
It may not even be the best Beatles album, but this could be the most important album ever made in the 20th century alongside sgt peppers.
I was honestly shocked to learn that The Byrds did country?!? The band that did 5D? Mr tambourine man? Turn turn turn? And it isn’t actually that bad.
I love 60s soul/blues and this album is incredible. Burke’s voice, and there’s so many hit songs here. But just like all the early 60s soul/rock albums, I just wish there weren’t so many cover songs.
I enjoyed the album itself and I appreciate its influence on garage rock, but in the contemporary context it just looks like a bunch of white dudes covering their favourite black musicians. Also, how many times will this list make me listen to roll over beethoven? It’s been three times already and I haven’t reached album 300 yet…
The introduction to African music that the world needed in the 80s. Still being massively influential 20+ years after his first album just shows how much of a genius Paul Simon is.
Just Bruce being Bruce. If Taylor Swift was a dude in the 70s but wrote good lyrics.
Some of the best lyrics that this group have ever produced. Not nearly as good an album as their 80s output. Sorry!
A great album to listen to in the background. An undeniable voice.
Incredible voice. Loved the originality.
A classic white stripes record. A lot of interesting and creative production choices on this one, but for me it gets a bit repetitive as an album listen.
A classic post punk album that could rival gang of four’s that’s entertainment.
Another 1968 Byrds album selected within the space of a few days. Yet the sounds between both albums are night and day. This album is what I expected from The Byrds, whereas the other album was straight country. Weird. Anyway, this album was another psychedelic jangle pop joint from the greatest harmonisers of the 60s.
I love this album. Such a youthful originality that isn’t displayed in other REM albums. Not their best, but a killer debut nonetheless.
Although I personally love this band and this album, I don’t think this album deserves to land on the list as much as Loveless. The hype for MBV was fever pitch, but fans nowadays don’t care too much about it.
The greatest rock opera with the weirdest subject matter.
I respect the hell out of Karen Carpenter. She’s one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century. Having said that, she made grandma music.
One of the first Beatles albums that clicked with me to the point where I would listen to it everyday. I’m quite sentimental about this one.
I have to be in the mood for this kind of drum track. On this occasion I caught a VIBE.
I was bored listening to this. Even the lyrics, that should be it’s shining beacon, are much to be desired.
An incredible album. I can’t believe I got suckered into only listening to Legend. This album has a few massive hits and great deep cuts. This turned a rainy January day into a Caribbean paradise.
I enjoy listening to a couple of songs at a time, but 71 minutes straight is just painful.
An absolute classic. Every record collection needs these songs.
Sometimes I listen to an album on this list and think “why is this here?” It’s a frustrating feeling because the album isn’t bad, but surely there are better albums than this???
No other album sounds like this. It influenced countless albums that came after. I love it and always will love it.
Is it weird that I prefer Berlin? Some of the lyrics on this album are terrible. Great singles though.
Surprised by how great this was. I had heard about Brazilian music from the 60s during the Tropicalia movement, but somehow didn’t listen to this album. Incredible stuff.
Great concept, good songs. I need to pay this closer attention.
Not really the sound I like. Appreciate the artist though.
When I listen to this album, it makes me realise that I was tensing before it started playing. It really relaxes me.
ZZ Top just doesn’t do it for me. Sorry.
One of the greatest albums of all time.
An interesting album but weak in comparison to SITKOL.
An absolute classic album. I wish my introduction to Elton was this studio album and not one of the 200 compilations.
I will always hold that this album is the best of the Berlin trilogy.
This album has a great energy. It sounds like a band from the 80s capitalising on the grunge explosion but still held true to their style.
This album generator is proving to me that the late 90s produced terrible music. What the hell was this shit?
Probably The Who’s most overrated album. I understand its significance and originality for the time it was released, but they were still a singles band at this time. I can see for miles is one of their most annoying 60s singles, and it’s one of the highlights of this album. That being said, it’s still The Who so it still gets a 3.
Just an absolute classic
Just shitty noise. Happy Valentine’s Day I guess.
Hounds of Love gets all the attention and this album is secretly Kate’s best.
The mental images this album produces is just depraved and hilarious. What do you mean everyone wants their nuts on someone’s face? Why are they saying they want to do this so often? I laugh when people say this album is a classic.
I mean… sure. It’s better than some of these other late 90s/early 00s albums.
The 80s always surprises me. So many albums by artists I’ve never heard of from the 80s have been great. Need to revisit this one.
Decent country. Not terrible!
A Scottish classic.
I love this album but all the best moments are near the end.
Not great but not terrible. Quite repetitive and noisy but almost in a good way. I’m leaning towards a 2 rating but only hesitantly.
I think this is their best album. The voice can be annoying sometimes but I love the homages to punk and ska. Incredible lyrics too.
Probably not as good as the debut album but still a fun listen. For some reason it’s with this album that I can see the influence this band had on Blur.
Intense and rhythmically incredible. Love Ian Mackaye.
I enjoyed this the most out of all the country albums i’ve had on this list so far. Not bad!
Evocative of the late 00s and early 10s. The production still holds up. I think I overplayed this album but still enjoy it occasionally.
An incredible album that accomplishes so much whilst being so simple. Iconic.
I think i’ll go ahead and throw away my compilations and just get this album. It has everything you need from Waters.
The most overrated album of all time. It’s one of Redding’s worst albums and for some reason he does too many Sam Cooke covers that just don’t do the original versions justice. Why is this here?
This album clicks with me when i’m grumpy at the gym. Otherwise it’s just noise.
I love the Band. Just wish I didn’t hear “the weight” so often through osmosis.
Opening tracks were great but it then descends into early 80s shite.
Honestly an absolute banger. I forgot how great this album is.
This might sound bad but besides the opening track it’s kind of… boring? It feels wrong to say it, but it might have to do with the spotify mix being thin. I wish I had a punchy first pressing or something, but there’s so many great early Vertigo label albums that this pales in comparison to.
The best White Stripes album. I will die on that hill.
This album gets a lot of flack. For me, it’s another 2-disc album that feels not good enough to be a great album but if it was whittled down to 45 minutes there would be too many good songs on the cutting room floor.
Like trip hop scott walker. Bar a couple of tracks, this was good.
I love this album more than I should. It’s so hard to branch out to other albums by the band when this nugget of perfection is so satisfying to revisit.
Probably the most influential rock album of the 70s. Impactful to say the least. I have a UK OG pressing and a late 70s Canadian pressing, both with different track sequences. The Canadian pressing goes HARD because Bodies is track 2. In British culture, this album is like a monolith. It’s not often that an album release changes a nation’s culture overnight.
I get the vibe but it isn’t for me.
I should like this but I find it irritating.
Absolute classic. The guitars take me to another universe.
Boring after the first three songs.
Essential album.
Great opening track, meh for the rest.
A fun Elvis album, glad I gave this a chance. “Fever” is like the “Come Together” of this album.
All the best songs but a lot of filler.
Three incredible vocalists doing incredible things.
I enjoyed listening to this. First time i’ve listened to a full album by this band. It was incredible to have blasting through my headphones whilst I mowed the lawn. Corey really pushes his vocal cords to the limit.
Genuinely great. How have I never heard this before?
Good at first… but then kinda boring. I really wanted to like this.
An incredible achievement. One of the greatest albums of all time.
All the best songs by the Killers are here, from the over-played to the underrated.
It took just one listen to this album. This man is a genius.
Upon first listen I found it annoying. I decided to return to it 3 weeks later… still annoying.
I mean… not her best album.
Under appreciated album, but not their best by any stretch.
Honestly, an incredible early 70s rock album. Easily one of the best albums of the decade. Why was Boston’s first album forced upon my ears 700 times before I heard this album? Makes no sense.
All rise for the sad little whingebag national anthem.
I mean, I get it but… a lot of this is just gratuitous pretentiousness and not enjoyable.
A classic. One of the greatest debuts of all time.
There are hundreds of bands that sound like this. Why is this special?
It’s great for the time, but mid now.
A genuine masterpiece. I never get bored of this album.
This was fun. That opening track definitely influenced Bad Bunny’s Superbowl show.
Classic album with an incredible opener.
I really tried with this one, but it felt annoyingly repetitive.
Zeppelin’s peak. Definitely one of their best.
Not some legendary album or anything. Kinda generic.
This album was pretty good, I think I’ll revisit.
Not their best by a long shot. Too repetitive in places.
A true hidden gem.
I should listen to this album more regularly. Great stuff.
I used to love the song ‘Marz’ when this album came out, but never listened to anything else by Grant. This album was great!
I revisited this after writing it off as too pop-ish a few years ago. I love it now.
The album that expanded my horizons and made me start collecting records.
Not the best by the duo but definitely the most iconic. Mrs Robinson, the album cover, America. Just a proper classic.
A classic live album. The vinyl pressing with all the extras was special.
I can see why this album was well-received… but I prefer Free. Free had the singer and drummer from Bad Company, and I love their albums. Bad Company to me is like a supergroup, but one of the better ones.
LA punk is so overrated. It doesn’t hold a candle to the hardcore scene in DC.
A great album with incredible musicianship.
On my grunge mount rushmore. One of the greatest vinyl A-sides of all time.
Another country album… not terrible though.
Why is this here? The US bias is unreal.
Classic prog flute.
Some shining moments along with some duds.
This is the type of album I was hoping the generator would throw at me. A founding member of Can made a solo album with early examples of sampling in 1979?!? It was weird, it redefined my understanding of ‘solo albums post-breakup’ and I never would’ve listened to this album if this site didn’t exist.
Listened to the “director’s cut” on spotify. It feels like the positive to Portishead’s negative.
I’ve heard this album too many times. It isn’t bad though.
Unless you grew up listening to Bruce, or his lyrics connected with you 40 years ago, this just sounds like a derivative cookie cutter borefest. The single-mindedness that Bruce fans have just doesn’t make sense to me because his songs are so cliché and mediocre. The same fans will say that Taylor Swift isn’t music, when they’re two sides of the same coin.
If anyone says this is their favourite album, they’re pretentious and clearly lying.
Wtf are these lyrics? This dude is not good.
It’s punk in its sensibility, but slow and boring.
An incredible album from T. Rex. The Slider, Electric Warrior and Tanx are highly underrated.
A few good songs, but this album is pretty mid. It’s like The Band made an album with zero interest in anything but LSD.
I’m questioning life right now. How is this so good?
A classic. Must’ve been insane to hear this when it came out.
Over-produced simple songs with whimsical lyrics and dark overtones. Meh.
Yay! More terrible 90s electronica.
Screw the solo peter gabriel stuff, this is the best.
Incredible 60s psychedelic pop. Need to add this to the collection.
This was probably unorthodox for its time. The beats at times are annoying but completely original. The flow could be likened MF Doom. Overall not bad but there were some terrible/cliche bars dotted all over the place.
Some real jazz fusion, not that Steely Dan stuff. Absolutely terrible tho.
Weirdly boring. Not terrible, just a bit boring.
The main vocalist is incredible and the instrumentation has a distinct ska feel. Feels like a devious album somehow.
Pretty good, not bad.
I wanted to kick back and relax. Now I want to join a protest and get angry.
What’s weird is that before the age of 25 I hadn’t even really heard of this band. After I turned 28 i’ve listened to about 4 of their albums and I hear about them constantly. Is this a sign i’m going old?
We had a slow morning in bathrobes drinking coffee in the 90 degree heat outside. This was the perfect album for that particular circumstance.
Someone relinquish this dude’s valium supply.
Classic dance album out of Liverpool. Feels like a collage of sound.
An album of pure New Orleans weirdness and no one does it quite like Dr. John.
I enjoyed this, but none of the Springfield albums make my Neil Young top 5.
Not as heavy as I anticipated. Wasn’t bad either tbf.
This album should be experienced loud as hell. Like almost too loud.
I loved the rhythm section of this album, the grooves were just buttery and thick. The songs themselves were pretty forgettable though.
I genuinely was going to give this a 5… and then the vocals began.
Genuinely enjoyed this album. I’d heard that DMR were a false one-hit-wonder band; basically because everyone knows Come on Eileen but none of their other stuff. This album is a great first listen and no Eileens in sight!
Great voice, almost rodriguez-ish.
I mean, I did enjoy the album. It has incredible singles, but it wasn’t cohesive. I would purchase this album but it wouldn’t crack my Aerosmith top 5.
Great message and some great moments. Just like with all of Bruce’s catalogue, it’s sonically equivalent to Taylor Swift’s simplicity and unironic overclichéing. That being said, I think I prefer this Bruce album over all his other ones. The lyrics to the title song cut very deep.
A classic by many standards. It’s just weird to me how many critics would rank this as his best album, but the first two songs on the album are terrible.
It’s like Bob Dylan but Bore DiYawn.
Just standard late 90s/early 00s pop. Some good moments but mostly meh.
BARS. Plus the beats got groovy.
Why is this album rated as their best? I’ve always preferred Up the Bracket. That being said, that 2003/2004 run was generational.
I understand Holiday’s importance to music as an art form. I have nothing but the highest respect for this artist. I just don’t like her voice.
Incredible album that apparently was produced in a way that made the band sound unrecognisable. I love the blokes involved, I love the album, I love the live stuff.
