Try as I might I can't see CCR as anything more than that band who are in all that Vietnam war stuff or the band who every pub cover band ever does a song by. That's my issue not there's of course but sometimes that's how it goes. I'm also just not a fan of this brand of bluesy rock. This started off kind of promisingly, for the first maybe 3 songs the blusey shuffle and mumbled vocals made quite pleasant background listening but then it just keep going with much of the same. Bad Moon rising is a highlight but the rest of it feels like filler to me.

So much boring blues-rock. It always surprised me that CCR are so big in Australia. 'Bad Moon Rising' is one of those songs you hear as a teenager, think it's not too bad the first few times you hear it out in the wild and then spend the rest of your life trying to avoid.

I love the sound of the guitar. So old and gritty, just gettin' it done, but I really hate the dude's voice and all I can picture in my head is a crazed Dennis Hopper full of stink and LSD from Easy Rider. ...and that's what ruins pretty much any CCR album.

CCR is the most overrated band of this era. I don’t dislike the band’s hits but I also don’t turn it on. When it’s on the radio or on any list, I skip we. I’m college i really liked their music but at some point I stopped liking their music. There’s just something about John Fogerty’s voice that annoys me so much.

Not a band I’ve listened to much. - Green River – a very country song, with twang for days. The main draw is the guitar work, which is decent, but not spectacular. Not my kinda song. - Commotion – I like the opening riff on this one quite a bit. Bouncy bass is pretty neat too. Lyrics are a beratement against the commotion and hectic nature of city life, with people rushing everywhere, frowning all the time, and making meaningless small talk. I appreciate the sentiment here. Definitely a step up, but not ultimately a track I’d come back to listen to. - Tombstone Shadow – Typical “bad luck” blues type song, in this case talking about a “gypsy man” who told his fortune and foresaw thirteen months of bad luck. It’s a decent track, but not my kinda music. I really dislike the twang overdoes in the guitar solo. - Wrote a Song For Everyone – Feels a like a bar ballad. It’s aight, but again, not my jam. Lyrics are generally being down about the world. The chorus is about difficulties in his married relationship, the verses are about civil rights, government lies/failures etc. The irony about wangsting over his inability to talk to his family when he can easily write songs is rather bitter when he later divorced his wife and was estranged from the rest of the family. Tough darts. - Bad Moon Rising – The signature song off the album, a trouble song. Not my jam. The weirdly peppy instrumentation feels jarring comparing to the dire lyrics. - Lodi – About seeking fortune but being stuck in a small town (the eponymous Lodi). The tone on this one matches the track, with more of the regretful/wistful tone on the guitar working better with the lyrics. One of the better off this ablum, but still not anything great. - Cross-Tie Walker – Contrasts the reception of a drifter with those of Vietnam soldiers going off to war (no brass band, no one waving farewell, no tears of regret). Feels very similar in theme to Allman Brothers’ Ramblin’ Man, which I think is a better song. I don’t really get the sentiment of being a drifter, so I odn’t connect to this song. - Sinister Purpose – Feels like Creedence writes “Sympathy For the Devil”, which actually came out just a year before. It’s one of the better songs off the album though, again due to the musical tone actually fitting the lyrics. Probably my favorite track, actually. - The Night Time is the Right Time – I don’t like the chorus of “WHY DO THEY?”s. I don’t get it, and it gets annoying. It’s a love song, but I can’t really imagine anyone loving Fogarty for this particular song lol. - Broken Spoke Shuffle – The instrumental track, which mainly just means they turned the drums up in the mix and played a normal song without singing. The mix presents the drums as the key part, with the guitar maybe actually a little quieter than normal, but the drum work isn’t anything special. Not a very good instrumental imo. - Glory Be – Another instrumental. Weird choice to end with two instrumental tracks. Turns out, neither was on the original version, which kinda makes sense. So I’ll ignore them. Neither is very good anyway. All in all, I’m not very impressed. The lyrical themes are mediocre, nothing I haven’t seen done better elsewhere. The guitar work is decent, but not really enough to carry things on their own (and often annoyingly twangy). The signature song here is Bad Moon Rising, and I really don’t get the appeal. A lot of songs have instrumentation that either doesn’t follow or straight up clashes with the tone of the lyrics (and not in a way that was clearly done for contrast/artistic effect). The album isn’t really cohesive either. Creedence was very influential, of course, but their influence is primarily on Southern Rock and country, two genres I also don’t like. Even the best songs aren’t really a kind of music I like. All in all, it’s a 2/5 at best for me. Top Tracks: - Sinister Purpose – A marginally worse version of Sympathy For the Devil is still the best song on the album. - Lodi – The tone at least works here. - Commotion – I almost like this one enough to add it to my playlists.

Swamp rock? This sounds too clean for a "swamp" rock. I'm surprised at how boring this albums turned out to be. It sounds like they're trying hard to steer away from their blues/country roots or influences but at the same time they stick to the same formula. Ultimately, it felt uninspired and uninteresting.

Did not like the guitar. The album felt very repetitive.

I have never heard CCR before, and it turns out, they are bad.

Tombstone shadow has one of the worst guitar solos I have ever heard. I was listening to this album like "I know they sing a song that I know and it has not come up yet." That song was Bad Moon Rising. It hit me as soon as it came on. The album was fine.

The album is a perfectly ok listen. That kind of country rock doesn't really appeal to me, but it was nice to hear that it wasn't a typical 'country' album. Best: Green River Worst: Broken Spoke Shuffle

I'll start off with a disclaimer. I don't especially enjoy vocalist John Fogerty's vocals. I find him strident, overly earnest, and lacking nuance. But you could just as easily describe him as passionate and holding nothing back. So, on to the music. I'm three songs in and so far, I'm unpleasantly surprised. I fully expected this album to be chock full of memorable hooks, so familiar from hits like "Fortunate Son," "Who'll Stop the Rain," and even "Born on the Bayou." Instead what you get is utterly basic and generic roots rock. "Wrote a Song for Everyone" is a little better, but it's not until you get to "Bad Moon Rising" that the album kicks into gear. There's a few more pleasant but unremarkable tunes and then we get a genuine shocker: a blistering cover of Ray Charles "The Night Time is the Right Time," a drastic improvement over the original, which Creedence completely makes their own. In fact, I'd say this is the definitive version. The last two songs are instrumentals. The last, "Glory Be," is a bit of a wasted opportunity. It has some catchy riffs and a fair amount of energy. With an impassioned vocal performance added on top, "Glory Be" would have been another hit for Creedence. If not for "Bad Moon on the Rise" and "The Night Time Is the Right Time," this album would be a complete waste of time. As it is, I give "Green River" 2 1/2 stars out of 5.

Oh Lordy, I did try to get through this but the only song that I could listen to in its entirety was Sinister Purpose, probably because it had less of Fogerty's singing. I know they sold a whack of records back in '69 but this is just not my cup of tea

I have never been a CCR fan and man this album really isn't going to change my mind. Never liked John Fogerty's singing or songwriting, and the guitars on this record are painful to listen to, especially on Tombstone Shadow. No thanks.

I already know I don't like CCR, so we'll see how this goes. Yep. Really didn't like this. I generally think the blues are boring, but they were popular, and I can see how swamp blues stood out in the field, but it's just awful.

Another Creedence Clearwater Revival lp? This is the third so far my first 200 in this process. I actually own this one. Bought in a charity shop and played once. Reevaluating them this time around it’s clear that Creedence were an average band who made too many records too quickly. Sure the hits are good but there’s one or two per album and the rest is derivative (Wrote a Song for Everyone should really be called Rewrote a Song for Money). They’d clearly been listening to The Band when recording this. Then there’s the chug-a-lug boogie woogie tracks like Cross TIe Walker that leave the listener with a greater appreciation for Chas n Dave. At least they weren’t so po-faced. I feel like I wrote this same review about the last Creedence lp that came up.

I grew up hearing ones like Bad Moon Rising on the radio and always hated them. I don't like blues and I really can't stand that voice.

Beyond bad moon rising there isn't really much else to this album. A lot of retreads of the same tune. Unremarkable apart the lead single and even that gets wearisome on the 3rd listen.

How do we get 3 CCR albums and none of them have that song about seeing the rain, their best one by miles?! Pleasant but plodding Americana. It's the same 12 bar blues chugging along over and over again with a folksy arrangement, predictable guitar licks, and a warm vocal delivering the lines. Inoffensive but so dull - them and the Band are some of the most overrated acts of the 60s. The Dude was wrong - the Eagles are better than this. Favorite: Lodi

Oh god another CCR. Cosmo’s factory was one of the worst albums I had to listen to on this project. I don’t understand why this band merits more than one entry on this list if at all. This album is better than Cosmo’s Factory. Songs are a bit more memorable and we got some tasty licks. Still, listening to the entire thing is such a chore. A can enjoy a single song, but at two songs it gets tedious. One star. I think if I’m getting CCR again I might just skip after listening to a song or two. I don’t get the credit they get here.

Don't mind a bit of Creedence, but for god's sake get someone on the sound desk who has a vague idea of what he's doing. I have bootleg versions of gigs recorded in the crowd that are better quality recordings than this. Like the music but the recording is just plain awful. due entirely to the quality of the sound 1.

CCR has been a staple of classic rock radio stations for maybe 35 years? Still doesn’t make it good.

The different parts of this I feel are arranged exceptionally well and I immediately appreciated the bluesyness. I love the twang of the guitar and I appreciate the brevity of the solos. However the whole album somehow sounds frivolous which makes me dislike it intensely. When I think blues I think soulful, melodic, and playful in an improv way, and the high prevalence of that technically blues sound while simultaneously sounding like a cereal box reads turns me off from this album hugely.
