Never listened to Louis before but know many of these songs. Super fun record in the spirit of a Louis Jordan record with some great singing and playing.

Couldn't understand a word of it but it's funky as hell

A definitive classic

A generational talent. That being said his music just doesn't appeal to me that much 🤷‍♂️

Zappa with a guest appearance by Captain Beefheart, just as weird as you might imagine. The band is good and Zappa is an extraordinary guitar player

Pretty good Elton John record but not his best. Levon is my favorite EJ song

I don't listen to early Chicago much mostly based on the schmaltz they released late in their career but this is good stuff. Some good songs, some GREAT horns (take that Courtney Love) and weird blues jams out of nowhere

Good record. BOTW, Cecelia and the Boxer are some of the better songs ever recorded. The rest of the album is good with varying musical styles

My all time favorite record

I was taken aback when Fast Car came out by how unique and good that song was but never listened to the album. This is a good record. Has a social conscience without being preachy

An overreach by the Mac at the height of their massive popularity. Maybe their 3rd or 4th best album. Still some good work here

Nick Drake is a bit of an acquired taste but I've been listening to his work for some time. Some good songs here and guitar playing that verges on acoustic blues at times. Very nice record.

I did not enjoy

The last Doors record as far as I'm concerned. Morrison's voice is reduced to a growl for a lot of this record. Lots of great songs on here (the title track is my favorite Doors song) and some mehh songs. Still a great record

Not a bad record. Not much differentiation between songs but they have a nice sound

Aretha's first record on Atlantic and it changed the trajectory of her career. Great record! Probably my favorite female singer

Been a fan of this record for a long time

One classic after another, many of these songs were overplayed on AOR radio when I was younger but still great tunes. Kind of forget that this was a debut record and it also essentially started the southern rock genre

I've met Mr Loaf but have never been enamored with his records. I wasn't excited for this one but it wasn't bad. It's music of a time and place that can take you back to that place which is one of the important things I ask music to do. I was going to go 2.5 but I'll give it a three

I've listened to X/O but never this one. He was a talented and troubled young man. A pop sheen over depressing lyrics. A good record

Not terrible. Some of the lyrics are interesting but the whole thing is pretty monochromatic

One of my first records was ZZ Tops 1977 greatest hits album. Funky, greasy blues rock. Not monumental but good stuff. This record is blues based pop that feels like it was run through a 1980's computer. A few catchy tunes and MTV made this record huge but I don't find it appealing even as a period piece

Been listening to this one for years. Great record!

I know people who's musical opinion i respect that consider this not only the best prog rock record but also one of the all time best records in general. That being the case I learned here that prog rock definitely doesn't do much for me.

Turns out I like excessively long jam band freakouts better than I like excessively long prog rock tunes. Not bad if you're into that sort of thing.

Of the multitude of Paul Simon selections I probably liked this one best

This is one of the records that set me on the Americana path. It checks all the boxes, the songs, the singing, musicians, the attention to detail in the production is incredible. Easily in my top 100 records. Also includes maybe the greatest song ever about female masturbation

All the Doors haters can pound sand this is a great record

Classic! Every song is a gem. Lots of good memories chilling with friends listening to this record in college

I was slow to come around to this one just like critics and fans when it was originally released. It was a revelation at the time it was released. Good record

Regarded as one of the all time best live albums by many. You can't argue with the Hardest Working Man in Showbusiness!!

Dylan's transition from folk. Side 1 is stream of consciousness Bob blowing his harp and spitting lines with a ramshackle jalopy of a band chugging along behind him. Side 2 more traditional acoustic folk songs. Subterranean Homesick Blues and Mr Tambourine Man are worth the price of admission

Really good 80's English punk record. Is it punk? I guess that's how I think of The Jam. "That's Entertainment" has always been a favorite

A game show? A reality TV show? An album? Yes it wasn't bad

A masterpiece. Most regard this as the Stones best record. I'm not sure on that but if I could only keep one Stones record it would be this one because of the depth and breadth of it

This record was a game changer for U2. Great song after great song. "One" is always a gut wrencher for me

How can I understand Ozzie's singing but not his talking? I don't typically enjoy metal but this wasn't terrible maybe because it's a little more blues based than others? I would give it 2.5 ⭐

Not his best selection of songs but still a great record. I often think about what Jimi would be doing today had he lived and my imagination tells me he would be cutting some killer acoustic blues

Angry metal not my thing

Had never heard of these guys. Kind of a cross between Oasis and the Smiths. I enjoyed it

This is a good album. I kinda turned my nose up at it at the time of release as it was overplayed everywhere. I'm a big DS fan and these are all good songs but it's not their best record. I can't bring myself to give it 4 stars but it's a solid 3.5

Had their ancestors been petty criminals and sent to the British penal colony of Australia they may have turned out as a slightly mellower AC/DC. Pretty straightforward 70's rock. Nothing remarkable but not bad. 2.5 stars

Not my favorite Heads record but still a classic. Everyone I knew in college that was serious about music had a copy of this one

I bought this one on CD before I even had a CD player because I wanted to listen to the guitar riff on Monkey Man on CD. A classic not a track in vain

This is a nice Dusty Springfield record. That being said I am sometimes mystified by the catalog choices here. She is not an artist that demands more than one entry here and anyone who knows anything about music knows it should be "Dusty in Memphis" which is a classic

Basically ground zero for glam rock. Influenced a number of bands from the New York Dolls to the Black Keys. Big fan of this one

I love all things Beck. Mellow Gold was a nice record but this one really pushed him into the stratosphere. People will be singing "Where it's at" to themselves for generations

Elvis transitioning from the King of Rock and Roll to a pop star. Col. Parker wanted a money machine who cares about artistic integrity. Still a nice set of songs

The songs are good the lyrics are good and the performances are fine. The Smiths/Morrissey just never move the needle for me. Still a listenable record

Big fan of Iggy's work with the Stooges. Solo stuff is not bad. This is ostensibly a Bowie record with Iggy on vocals. Fun fact: Greg Shimonek is the biggest Iggy fan I know which means something although I'm not sure what

Some people who's musical opinions I respect are big Smths fans. I am not, I don't dislike them they just don't move the needle for me

Early Kinks always underrated

Some solid British jangle pop. Remember them from college, wasn't a tremendous fan but knew some who were. Nice record

Great debut that didn't sell and was generally ignored by the critics. It was well ahead of it's time and was incredibly influential. I read today that it only sold 30k copies in it's first 5 years but all 30 thousand people that bought it started their own band😄. Also Sue asked me if the guy's guitar was broke so even though Loaded is my favorite VU album I'm giving it 5 stars based on that 🤣

JLH was probably the first blues artist I discovered (playing Boom boom boom in the Blues Brothers). Nothing wrong with this record and it's nice to see JLH get some widespread recognition late in his career. That being said this isn't even in the top 5 best JLH records. Uncle Tupelo begat Son Volt and Wilco. Son Volt had a great debut record and Wilco's was good but kind of lightweight. This one caught people by surprise and belongs in the hall of very good

I've cooled on Eric Clapton over the years but you can't deny this album. A true blues rock masterpiece. Duane Allman plays guitar on 11 of the 14 tracks

A classic from REM. Different directionally for them. Not their best record but it is their best sounding record. Wore this CD out years ago. A great one

At the end of the day aren't they all "Songs the Lord Taught Us"? Psychobilly Surf Zombie Punk?? All I remember about this group is a well known local public radio DJ couldn't stand them so I never listened. I thought this was a lot of fun and I bet the live shows were insane!

Never been a big fan. Annie Lennox has a great voice but it's all a little too "new wavey" for me

Didn't love it but didn't hate it either. Vocals very reminiscent of My Morning Jacket and some decent jangly guitar

I'm sure they are good at what they do but every song sounds the same to me, fast and angry

This record was a touchstone for music listeners of my generation but it really wasn't all that for me. Aerosmith at their least pretentious I guess.

Oh Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz. I wish I had a dollar for every time I got drunk and sang that one. Janis was a star that unfortunately was doomed to burn out not fade away. She's a fantastic blue's singer, wonderful record

You sometimes forget the Beatles were a great 4 piece rock and roll band. Good stuff

I have never listened to the La's outside of "There She Goes" which is a pure pop MASTERPIECE. This is a really good album and sadly their only one.

We just had one of their albums a couple of weeks ago and I said I like them more as a singles band. Still holds true but I like this one better

I had this one on cassette and couldn't believe how radical it sounded at the time. Just great passionate punk rock young people angry about their circumstances. While I'm old and this type of anger doesn't resonate with me like it used to there should always be a place for it in music. I did a satirical speech in freshman rhetoric loosely based on "Holiday in Cambodia". Good times, good memories 🙂

First 3 songs lean to the funk side ( side 1 of the record I believe). The rest is standard Temptations fare. You can't argue with either
