Reviews (page 9 of 13)

I know I know, it’s a classic, wu tang is THE group. It’s good, the album flows the personalities are fun. But for some reason the album drags a little too long for me.

such a vibe honestly, gorillaz and wu tang clan when tho

almost all songs sound same but i like cream !!!!!!!

06/05 Meh. All the songs sound the same

Liked it more than I thought I would. Language was a little much, and the album went on for too long.

90s hip-hop. Standard fare.

5+ / 10

Solid rap album but definitely dated

A classic hip hop album with lots of catchy songs and great performances and production which unfortunately has never properly clicked with me enough to say it's a personal favourite but I do think it deserves the praise it gets 7/10 Favourite: C.R.E.A.M. Least Favourite: Clan in da Front

might be too agressive for me. sick beats tho

légèrement surcoté mais très bon, jsuis sévère : 3+/5

Too much hype

B.R.E.A.M (bants rules everything around me)

Got better as it went along - liked Tearz a lot.

Solid rap album but not my cup of tea. We had lo-fi before it was cool.

An okay album but no real stand out songs.

Decent, but far from my favorite type of rap.

Same as before.

Better than the Beastie Boys.

groundbreaking and listenable

It was okay same sort of theme the whole time but they were the first to do it so pretty good

kinda vibe w it icl

For rhyme and for rapture, whatever. After laughter, comes tears.

The interludes slow down the album for me, still high quality rhymes throughout

Not my style, but I found this pretty good. I liked "Shame on a nigga", "7th Chamber", "C.R.E.A.M.", or "Tearz". This is easily a 3-star album for me.

Wu tang ain’t nothing to fuck with

i know the movie. never heard wu-tang as wu-tang, just heard of them and some songs that r still unnamed to me. reminds me of my uncle.

Enjoyed it overall, but didn’t like it as much as I wanted to. Liked Da Mystery and Ruckus the best.

I can respect this, and appreciate its pretty good if your into that sorta thing, but i certainly aint no fan

Best een bijzonder album, voelt erg zomers, gek genoeg.

Somehow, despite graduating high school the year this was released I never heard it. Super excited when I read the reviews about future civilizations holding this up as a cultural masterpiece. I was familiar with the names like Old Dirty, Ghost Face, etc. But nothing lands with this one. Not bad, and I'm sure if I heard it at 19 I would have felt differently, but I remain unmoved.

bopping

I appreciate the way skits are used to add context & establish the mood for the songs. However, as I'm very interested in human performance and music theory, the constant presence of samples doesn't appeal to me.

Very good.

I like the little interludes and skits and there’s some nice variety here. Too long

The blue print for hardcore hip hop Nothing can top the opening sketch to Method Man

This is definitely early HipHop

A good hip hop album, but there are others from the list that I've liked more.

I really want to like this one. The classic kung-fu film references should make for an easy on-ramp to rap or hip-hop. The first few songs are violent and n-word ridden, which has always turned me off . The second half was better though, more playful and perhaps with better rhymes. I need to spend more time with it, but it hasn’t blown me away yet.

not really my cup of tea, but could get into it in time

Songs are great, not into the skits

lyrics were better than the previous one but i didnt hugely enjoy it

The sense I'm getting is that these guys were the Beatles of rap/hip-hop. Interesting to read how influential they were for artists I'm more familiar with. I wish I enjoyed it more, but I'd put it in the high 3 category.

Esta bueno, pero no es mi estilo

I'm far from a hip hop enthusiast. I've listened to the record many times before, was big with my friends in college. I like this album pretty well, enjoying more than anything else the interesting samples and the sound of the beats. Can see these aspects as a template for many "alt rap" artists that followed. Overall however I didn't resonate much with the "tough guy" lyrics and personas often present here. The interstitials I found especially dumb. "I'm gonna fuck your ass up" "fuck you, ni**a" and all this stuff. I find it kinda silly and basically unpleasant. I like the sounds of ODB's voice but he seems like a real dipshit. Too often I didn't like long stretches of rapping in about half of the individual songs, where the song itself then becomes a throwaway for me. Good but far from essential, and I'd go elsewhere if I'm in the mood for hip hop (which is almost never). "Method Man" was my favorite track.

Me gustó "shame on a nug".

This is the famous Wu-Tang album. I definitely need to listen again and listen more closely. Maybe everything innovative about it was taken and reused by other artists and it's hard for me to discern. What is unique? Well I have to admit, while a nice album, I didn't get it (yet)

most songs were just average rap and some i really didnt likr

Good, not my thing.

dolla dolla bills y'all

A classic.

Gritones

Not my thang but it is good.

Crazy to know they were some of the pioneers of what rap is today. A little diff from my preference, the songs sound too together and mushed if that makes any sense. Iconic tho

It was cool, angry, and in-your-face as raps of this era often is.

Not being a massive hip hop fan, I have not listened to the album before. Can appreciate its importance in the history of the genre and enjoyed some of the tracks. Not one I'll rush back to.

I get it, but I'm not getting all the way through it.

It's a good album, with interesting and innovative rhythmic foundations that accompany Wu Tang's lyrics. It also addresses several highly relevant themes, such as the economy and violence, which, through social criticism, give us a rather raw portrait of urban life in New York in the 1990s. Overall, it's quite decent.

reminds me of beasties

Influential and iconic, but only a few tracks have standout backing tracks. 6/10

this was pretty good but not particularly interesting

Wuuuuu Tang!!

Some cool bass lines and an overall good sound. Rap isn't really my genre though and I get a little bored after a while with this.

Not my genre at all. Modern rap owes a lot to this album. Modern rap is nowhere near as good as this album. But much of it is more potty-mouthed than my puny brain can handle.

Veel moeite mee, maar iconisch

This is a review for the expanded version because I couldn't find an uncensored version of the original. Pretty fun hip hop album. This feels like a step above most of the other rap albums from this era.

Not my fave genre, but enjoyable enough! Good back beats.

I never listened to a hip hop album. I understand why people like it. I think it was made in a phenomenal way. It still isn’t my kind of music.

This was definitely a welcome change but also still a bit much for me. Lots of interesting samples and I understand that this was quite a visionary release even if not really in my wheelhouse. Tearz was a nice closer

Pretty cool stuff

Classic!

Not a hip hop fan but I can see the landmark quality

Barrrbarela

It was pretty good for its time. Probably got an extra start just because of nostalgia.

Wasn't really in the right vibe for this yesterday and feel like I've heard most of it — may have to revisit

Is ok, some nice songs but im am not a hip hop listener every day

214/1089 the beginning of Method Man was… something. loved the sample in Tearz. This was a pretty good east coast hip hop project, not a style i often listen to or am super clued in on but the significance of this record is abundently clear and deserved. faves: Can It Be So Simple, Tearz, Method Man, Bring Da Ruckus, 7th Chamber Part 2 62/100

Good beats, good rhymes, and good cuts in between tracks. Apparently a landmark in East Coast rap. Love the pieces taken from the kung fu movies!

enjoyed it

makes me wanna learn how to box

★★★½

Not really my style but good bars 7/10

I'm not into hip hop but can see that they are very influential and talented. Wasn't a bad listen

liked some of it...some of it not for me...i am hearing all the references placed by lin in warriors LOLOL

This album has a nice groove to it. Hard not to be moving while listening to it.

Generally I love this genre and I hadn’t listened to this album before but unfortunately I was having a horrendous day so I didn’t appreciate this the way I would maybe have usually done so I’m giving it 3* and will revisit when it doesn’t feel like the world is ending.

It's pretty good, they could spice up the instrumentals a bit more and the songs could be more unique

good but i don’t usually listen to rap

Its a jam! Take aways: Can it be all so simple, Protect Ya Neck

Sehän oli varsin menevää hippii-hoppii, vois kuunnella toistekki

During election season, it seems as though Wu-Tang Forever political yard signs pop up in the suburbs and I can't help but roll my eyes and assume that the people displaying them are upper middle class white men who will never be negatively impacted by politics. Enjoy your privilege, you edgy cool cats. Hip hop is not my favorite genre. I get that Wu-Tang seems to be universally beloved and that this is culturally important. For me, this sounds vaguely dated and increasingly annoying as the record unfolds. It's not for me, and that is perfectly ok. 2 stars for personal enjoyment 4 stars for cultural importance

artistry on display and no denying it. I've given Wu-Tang Clan a handful of listens over the years and they never quite grab me the way a lot of others in the field do. Still, worth listening to, but something I don't have in heavy rotation.

Sharp, flowing lyrics with more than your recommended daily allowance of F-bombs, flavored with as many samples from old kung-fu movies as there are from classic R&B. I'm no hip-hop expert, but this feels special, even though it's not the kind of thing I'd seek out to listen to. Favorite tracks: "Protect Ya Neck" and "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'"

Its ok

I can recognize this album as a staple of the genre and an icon, and as a good album. It's just also not an album that's for me!

a little too boom bap, more spoken than rap

3/5 not my thing but not bad 7.67/10

I remembered this being a more complete album. Some great original stuff but for me, not a listen straight through album.

Good album with nostalgic production don’t understand the skits where they talk about how they would murder someone…

I know this album is hugely lauded, but I never really got it. I still think people's love for Wu-Tang is a bit performative, and the whole Kung Fu thing is a bit cringe. I think if I was 10 years older maybe I would feel differently, as I would have been a teenager when this first came out. Some really great songs, especially CREAM, but the skits and immature lyrics drag it down a bit for me.

brought me back to the old days when I was little and my older brother was hanging out with his friends and they were playing these kind of songs. Agh such a good vibe and memory’s. Amazing album

Liked it

Another album I was surprised to like more than I expected. Lyrically, it’s pretty meaningless, but the beats are always fun. I’ve never listened to this type of music before and while it’s still not what I would normally go to, I enjoyed some songs was more than expected. Top Songs: C.R.E.A.M, Can It All Be So Simple, Tearz

Bold and insistent vocals against really interesting samples. Felt like too many of the songs were just about how cool they were.

I don’t really like this style of HipHop but some tracks like “C.R.E.A.M.” and “Project Ya Neck” are still good. It was fun to see where MF DOOM got inspiration from.

enjoyable 90s rap with lots of personality and style

This album, well, this band actually, is really fun. If anyone is good with rap and hip hop and ever was into those crazy kung-fu Chinese movies from the 70's you will just "get it." Maybe they are niche or maybe they are too weird for some or ... I don't know. But I have always been good, maybe not an outright fan, but enjoyed Wu-Tang Clan stuff. I think it is more fun than remarkable, but that does count for a lot!

Didn't hit with me the way OG did. I dig the martial arts influences for sure.

Wu-la-la-la It's the way that we rock when we're doin' our thing. Enter the clan with the plan, Spittin' rhymes and verses, no reverses, now or later, and of course it's genuine, no one greater, winnin' like Texas Rangers Emptyin' out 36 chambers.

Not my favorite genre but I appreciate it for what it is and how it's influenced modern artists

Overall Rating - 2.92/5 (5.83/10). Good flow in all of the tracks I completed. It's not my style, but these guys are clearly skilled, and I can appreciate the artisanship involved in making this record.

Peanut Butter. Cause I ain't butter.

Immediately 90’s rap nostalgia. So fun, kinda vulgar but it’s okay.😭

Random thoughts: * I did like hearing this one in full for the first time. I see how they came up with their personas and how their love of kung-fu was fused into the overall style. * However, I'm just not an east coast rap guy. I guess I need more hooks. * I did like Method Man. CREAM is supposed to be one of the all-time greats and I just can't really get behind it. * I will probably try this again but I fear this is just not my thing. I appreciate but just don't like it.

Not for me

Very entertaining. Some parts seemed kind of long, but honestly not even a big problem, for I feel it to be very crucial to the storytelling they were trying to achieve.

I like the down to earth vibe of it having its own unique feel of rapping.

... not my cup of tea

ik how influential this is and i get it but for me personally im gonna need some changes to the beat to get into smth

I'm not much of a hip hop fan, sorry

A couple of outstanding tracks on here, but I thought I’d enjoy it more, as I do like my hip-hop, maybe I’ll give it another spin, as it’s so highly rated around

She might get into it but N.W.A. gives her more dopamine

YES. Classic and fun.

As historically important as this album may be, I don't personally see myself throwing this on for a re-listen.

Good rap. 3,3

Day 129 I found some of the ‘skits’ absolutely excruciating, but no doubt there is some excellent production on some of the songs here 7/10 Highlights Can it all be so simple CREAM

Not my favorite, but appreciate the flow.

Rhyming diarrhoea with gonorrhoea, stroke of genius - hell of a laugh but now my vibe

B- Bring Da Ruckus 3 Shame On A Nigga 3 Clan In Da Front 3 Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber 3 Can It Be All So Simple 3 Da Mystery Of Chessboxin' 3 Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing Ta F' Wit 3 C.R.E.A.M. 5 Method Man 3 Protect Ya Neck (Intermission) 3 Tearz 3 Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber - Part II 3 I was hoping it’d have more than CREAM, but alas…

Definitely out of my comfort zone. Even though it’s rap and I didn’t pay much attention to the lyrics, the vibes were there in a way I actually liked. It made me feel like one of those cool kids who arrived at school with this album playing in the background. I don’t usually appreciate rap, and one thing that made me dislike this album was the fact that I didn’t feel motivated to learn the lyrics, like I do with other rap songs. Still, it’s a good album overall, and I’d give it a 64. I don’t think I truly liked any particular track, but the first track and C.R.E.A.M. were the ones I enjoyed the most.

I know how important this album and band is, I do. It’s simply not music I connect with no matter how hard I try. It’s hard for me to rate this because while I value its importance, it’s not an album I will ever play again.

I like the skits. not really my style but i see the influence!

Not my style but it’s fun

Never really got it

I don't really like rap, so I wasn't sure what to rate it.

It was good! Just less my thing, I saved a couple of songs though!

I liked hearing some snippets that have been used in other mash ups that I like. Was definitely bobbing my head and shaking my leg to the beat at certain points. I really care for the conversations between songs. Can’t say I’d turn to listen to the album multiple times though.

Not my style, but I did appreciate it. ★★★

Legendary and one of my bros favorites.

A lot of the tracks sounded the same but I did enjoy this album. It was good fun with nice rhymes.

This is one of my favorite hip-hop albums on this list so far. Earlier this month we listened to The Pharcyde, which I found boring and not cohesive. Enter The Wu -Tang felt powerful and authentic. I found it to be a really interesting listen, I can understand why they are so well known.

Cash Rules Everything Around Me 1001 Albums Generator 178 (12/8/2025) Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is pretty much the only album by legendary hiphop collective Wu-Tang Clan that I've ever heard anyone talk about. I've given this album a lot of tries, but I always walk away with the same opinion: it's alright. The beats are pretty consistently great and the opening 1-2 punch of Bring Da Ruckus to Shame On A Nigga really gets my hopes up every time I come back to this thing. Unfortunately, I really do not like the skits here and I especially hate that they aren't even split onto their own tracks, so I can't add any of these songs to playlists really. It's funny because a lot of songs here get a like from me, so it looks like I enjoy the album more than I really do. Most songs go on too long, especially Can It All Be So Simple, Method Man, and Protect Ya Neck. However, as I mentioned before, the beats are amazing; The RZA is such a great producer. Beats like C.R.E.A.M. and Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing ta F' Wit have become all time classics of the genre, and Tearz has always been a personal favorite. It has always felt weird that I don't love this album as much as everyone else, but I just don't get it. I see 36 Chambers as a pretty decent collection of classic New York hiphop tunes, but it seems that the consensus on it is that it's one of the greatest albums ever. I just don't get it. 3.5/5, rounded down to a 3. Favs: Bring Da Ruckus C.R.E.A.M. Tearz Least Fav: Can It All Be So Simple/Intermission

I liked it. There are some really interesting samples and beats, and the guys are all great rappers. I didn't enjoy it as much as a lot of early 90's hip-hop and I'm not exactly sure why. I think it was a little darker and gritty than I like.

I liked this pretty well.

It was fine. Sorry.

Not bad. Some excellent beats. Good lyrics and cool rapping. Not anything I would come back to over and over again. Get why people would love it though.

Decent East Coast rap album. Easy to listen to but probably only worth listening to the album as a whole.

I like it, but don't love it, but I respect as well

bring the ruckus was a high point

𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘶-𝘛𝘢𝘯𝘨 (𝟥𝟨 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴) is raw, chaotic and full of personality. The production has a gritty, unpolished feel that gives the album a tough underground atmosphere, and the group’s rotating lineup keeps the verses constantly shifting in tone and energy. There’s an unpredictable spark to the record — you never quite know what voice or mood will come in next. At the same time, that same looseness can make the album feel uneven. The rough edges are part of the aesthetic, but they can also make it harder to stay consistently immersed. Some tracks hit hard immediately, while others blur together without leaving as strong an impression. There’s clearly a lot of creativity here, but not every moment lands with the same impact.

Mucho nigger y mucho fucking. Rap.

Hardcore rap. Liked it ok.

Et j’aime bien l’alternance entre paroles très light (“peanut butter cause I’m not butter”) et plus vulnérables/violentes (“with a drunk driver driving there’s no surviving”).

It's 58 minutes long and the de facto poster child for why parental advisory labels are on albums. It's also a must know if you're into the genesis if east coast rap.

It's alright but not for me

a few bright spots, but couldn't get into it

A hip hop classic from which I like a few tracks but in general, not an all time great album for me

I don't really understand the cult status of this one. Musically, there's not much that's interesting here. And when something is interesting it's not really developed upon. Almost every beat is a 1-4 bar loop on repeat. Sometimes the beat drops but the arrangements almost never change. I can see how it was influential and important, but like most early 90s hip-hop I feel it doesn't hold up well today. A few song do, but as an album there were a lot of skips for me. Everything also sounds way too similar. Barely a 3

Hip hop definitely isn't my usual wheelhouse. That said I did thoroughly enjoy this album. It skipped the worst part of 80s and 90s hip hop, the stupid skits between songs. There's a reason that this album blew up.

I remember reading an article about “unique words used in rap lyrics” and ranking rappers on this metric (https://pudding.cool/projects/vocabulary/index.html). Back in 2014 when it was first published, method ma was number 1. But what I find more impressive is that there is a dedicated “Wu-Tang Clan” filter and they are all pretty high up on that list. Felt the urge to workout or drive in a convertible while blasting this music. Good vibes, enjoyed my time.

I get this album's cultural significance but I just don't care for rap/hip-hop Tracks to Track: C.R.E.A.M.

Didn't age as well as some other hip hop from this era.

Not sure why I couldn’t get in rhythm with it

Pretty good

Thought this one was enjoyable but not one of my favourite hip hop records I have heard on this list

Not my favourite but a good album

Pretty good hip hip

Beginning to realize that I am in a post hip hop phase - cannot listen at home due to the kids and feel a bit ridiculous listening to it in the car in rural Somerset. Generally enjoyed the beats and the variety of the rapping - although struggled with the lyrical content at times.

Oscar Meyer Weiner Award for rhyming "ghonorea" with "diarrhea". Some cool beats and they're having a great time but it's all just beyond my grasp.

not bad, a couple of good songs but not my jam

Well, surprisingly I enjoyed this more than I thought as I normally don’t gravitate towards this genre of music. Will I listen again? Probably not, did I hate it? No.

I love some of their tracks, especially some live performances, and my gamer handle is even from Wu-Tang. But, for me, the album experience itself isn't peak hip-hop. I can jam to a lot of this, tune out some of it, and think about how inspiration this group was. Especially the sampling! But it's a 3.5/5.

Interesting listen. Not necessarily my thing.

More like a 3.5 as I preferred it over oasis but the other 4 stars albums were better

This is a pioneering hip hop album for sure, like some didn’t like others but can see why it helps revitalise east coast hip hop

cabilla

Dolla-dolla bills, y'all.

It's good, but among the other rap/hip-hop albums on the list I've heard so far, falls below. Could be the simplicity of the beats, but I just wasn't pulled into it as much as NWA, Kendrick Lamar, or De La Soul. 3/5

I'm limited, but hip hop is not my tang

Interesting - not a big rap fan but liked a couple of tracks

not bad

I think it’s ok.

This inspired better records. I can see the beginnings of people like Nas and Jay-Z here, and a lot of it works. they build tracks well, which creates a great environment for the raps that they can layer on top. Lyrically, well... Yes, I'm sure you could murder me. Congratulations. I'm sure that you could in fact shoot me with that gun and I would die. Go you. Also, that Asian woman over there will totally want to have sex with you if she thinks you can murder me.

It’s impossible to not bob your head along with the beats while listening to this album. The playful sound effects, sporadic samples of old school music, and witty lyrics keep a smile on your face during every song. Track after track is a “who’s who in the Brooklyn zoo” with a revolving door of MCs throwing haymakers at anyone looking to step-up. A common theme of staying ghetto fabulous and protecting the crew run rampant across this album. Wu-Tang is for the children!

Not my go to genre, have to admit this was the first time I listened to the entire album. The singles off this album have always been favorites, of course C.R.E.A.M. and Method Man. Entire album has a great vibe, really draws you in. Again, not my favorite genre. Their influence on music is clear, for me even moreso after listening to this album. Really liked the album, but not something I'll listen to again. Wu-Tang forever....but for me, it's a 3. My apologies to the hip hop universe.

Thought I would like this more than I did. And don't listen to it around young kids!

I think this album has a lot of historical significance. It's not really my genre, but I can see why people like it. I like tearz, the rest not so much and wouldn't listen again.

Pretty decent, but I don't really understand the hype.

Familiar with this one and like it.

Influential, of course. Some off the lyrics haven’t held up that well. It sounded ‘raw’ 30 years ago. A fun mess but not quite a glorious one from this distance.

Not the worst but not the best.

This album did a reverse sneak attack on me - after faffing about trying to find the explicit version, I found the first half to be absolutely awful. Total drivel that I was barely listening to. When I got to “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’”, I suddenly found myself engaged for reasons I can’t really articulate - some of the songs were familiar to me via later samples, but the songs just seemed better, somehow.

I really like hiphop beats - the music has a great groove and the skill of putting samples together in a way that creates a whole new sound but simultaneously sounds like it never could have been anything different, is so impressive to me - but I find it so hard to connect with the lyrics, especially in this era. For me, Ol' Dirty Bastard and Method Man are just miles ahead of the rest in terms of being fun to listen to, even it they aren't technically the best rappers. I can't be arsed with skits. It's like every rapper in the late 80s/early 90s was a frustrated action movie actor and this was their only outlet. This would be a 3.5 if I had half marks, but as it is, it's getting a 3. 3/5

Some great tracks, maybe im just tired but shit’s not matching my mood right now. Too violent (which is wild for me to say ik). THREE

Ehhh? Mmm qué se yo, tanta cosificación ibas a tirar? Nota: 2.7

A couple good songs in an otherwise typical gangsta rap record

This isn't bad at all but it's not I really enjoy to listen to for 58 minutes in a row. I'd like to hear something like "C.R.E.A.M." in San Andreas radio when I'm driving around with my bike. I don't really vibe with the lyricism.

My mom loves them

A classic? Hard to tell from passive listening while working. Most of the art is the lyrics, and I'd have to listen again.

It was fine. Not my favorite type of hip hop, but some of the songs were entertaining. I knew C.R.E.A.M.

I'm usually always impressed by old school hip hop, but this was not doing it for me. There was nothing clever about the lyrics, every song sounded the same, and the production was very poor. I'm surprised they have as many fans as they do. I can't even name one song that I liked the best because they were all so mediocre.

I'm disappointed by this. I thought it would be more dynamic, but outside of a few tracks or interesting pieces of production, and a few good rhymes, it's kind of flat. The whole album is weirdly murky. I'm being generous here. 2.5 rounded up.

I enjoyed this. For the most part it’s clever, easy flow, that typical 90s era backing music that I quite like and I think having a number of different artists in the group helps keep it fresh. Probably would have been in 4 if it hadn’t had the usual issues of the threats of violence (albeit in more imaginative ways than most rap/hip hop) and dragging on a bit.

Its fun, lyrically interesting, funny, clever. I loved the 90's nostalgia hit (at first) and I thought I was in for a banger. Not sure when things changed but at some point in the second half of the album I'd had enough. These old school beats are very repetitive, and the flows consist mainly of shouted call and response rhyming couplets that also get repetitive. Probably the most accessible of all the early 90's hip-hop we have had so far but still a middling album when compared to others on this list.

Cool project and cool vibes but not music I reach for

As far as rap albums go, this one is pretty good. I recognized a few songs. ODB is my favorite.

crack and weed feels like a crazy combination

WU TANG AINT NOTHIN TO FUCK WITH!!!!! um ngl the method man track really grossed me the FUCK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! almost wanted to give it a 2 star demerit for that alone but they had bangers too

I'd been meaning to give this album a listen for a while, so it being my album of the day was the perfect opportunity. Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) by Wu-Tang Clan is a pretty good album. I don't think that there were any bad songs; everything was enjoyable. I enjoyed the theming, and the blending of the Asian sounds with the early hip-hop. I don't really know what else to say. I liked this album. I enjoyed my time with it. That is all. Solid piece of music. :)

Was alright

Although this type of hip-hop never really appealed to me, I recognize how innovative the album must have been at the time. What we now call classic old-school rap, with lyrics ranging from gangsta to funny, all tied together by an old kung fu movies aesthetic. 3.5/5

Ok, so there's some hard-core East Coast rap I can almost get behind. I could do without the descriptions of torture in 'Method Man'. I do get why this is such an important album and group. Interestingly, my wife, a 57 year old white woman, has been listening to a fair amount of Wu-Tang lately. Makes me chuckle. I probably won't be coming back to it, but I can appreciate it for what it is, maybe more so that some of the other gangsta rap that I've heard via this list up to now.

it’s not my style of music, but i did enjoy it as much as i could. i like the lyricism and instills, with each of the tracks flowing nicely. i just might not relisten, and that’s okay!

Excellent for cleaning the house.

One of the most acclaimed and classic hip-hop albums of all time. It's actually not that bad. There are some very good songs here, but the samurai movie samples peppers throughout are SO. DAMN. CHEESY! Key tracks: C.R.E.A.M. Protect Ya Neck

If I had to listen to hip hop, this would be on the list

I haven't enjoyed the various Wu-Tang solo albums I've reviewed and after hearing about 15 of the 36 Chambers I was resigned to not liking this either. The murky production just didn't do it for me. Then, halfway through, it got really good! Track after track of catchy beats and engaging rapping. I think having the whole clan together adds a welcome sense of camaraderie, energy and humour that the solo records lack. Suddenly I'm starting to understand the hype. 3.5

Not my type of music. Bouldering gym loves it though.

That's not my taste in music - But ok

I was expecting a bit more from this album

Hardcore 90’s hip hop. I really liked how each rapper came out with their own style and just threw down their rhymes. Culturally significant, but not really my genre and I doubt I’ll ever give it another spin.

Rounding up from 2.5. Not my thing at all, but interesting. The first track is good.

The music was eclectic snd interesting. Im definitely not the target audience but never have much use for the swaggering thymes from this era of hip hop

I always struggle with rating hip-hop albums since I'm not a lyrics-first listener. I know this is a classic and I can see why, but can't say I fell in love at first listen.

Kinda whelmed by my first time hearing them proper. It may also just not be my style? But it's not bad either.

Another 90s hip hop classic with memorable beats and great flow.

ahhh as much as I enjoy the Wu-Tang concept and personas, 36 Chambers wasn't the all-time classic I was expecting. The Low End Theory dropped two years earlier, and to this day feels like a way more cohesive and timeless NY album. My enjoyment here comes mainly from RZA's production, plus the charmingly lofi recording quality typical of early 90s east coast rap albums. That raw sound, plus the group's energy, make for ideal workout music -- so I guess it DOES have a place in my rotation. In the broad hiphop landscape though, it's far from my fav pick. Standout: CREAM

Didn't enjoy as much as I thought I would

Don't really get Wu-Tang or why this album is so reverred. I'd rather listen to Public Enemy, N.W.A. or The Roots or several other hip hop collectives. There doesn't seem to be much variety to the rapping and not every track needs to have a kung-fu sample.

I enjoy hip-hop.

it had some good beats/music, but its not my cup of tea at all

Although I'm not a huge hip-hop fan, there's no denying that this group and this album features a powerhouse of talent. There are fun, recognizable, and infectious hooks, and intelligent word play in the lyrics.

not sure what i was expecting considering it's one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time but i was slightly disappointed with it - i thought it was missing something. there were some good beats but also some of them were kind of repetitive

This type of music is not normally my thing, but really enjoyed this one.

I liked the album and it gave me a better background on why this is regarded as one of the landmark albums of it's time.

Ok so my hot take is that this is not my favorite rap album. That’s really the only criticism I have is that it wasn’t really for me. Like I feel out of the members the only two that really stand out are ODB and MM. There’s nothing wrong with the other members, I just think they get completely overshadowed to me. But there’s some classics on this album, and it’s regularly brought up when talking about greatest rap albums of all time. Just for me, it’s a solid rap album, but it’s not an “all-timer”.

As engagingly chaotic as the first time I heard it. A seminal album whose influence continues to be felt today. Excellent, but not perfect.

I wavered between 3 or 4, will put 3 for now and if I have a change of heart and need to edit later, I will. Clearly this album paved a path. There are so many classic songs on this album that have been in rotation for decades. Even ones that I didn’t immediately recognize, I had to give them their flowers. Personally, I could not get past the talking and the interludes. I know the interludes were popular on rap albums but these exhausted me. They were so long.

Not a bad effort. I have listened to more hip hop in the last few months than I normally would but this album is one of the better ones.

I don't really care for hip hop but this is fine. I expected it going into this list, and I can't quite say it lived up to my expectations, but I can see the influence it had on the genre. I like the martial arts references, it adds a bit of humor/theming that really helps the album to stand out.

It was ok. Music was good.

it is a vibe, just not mine entirely

Sweary and hard to understand what they are saying when they are not swearing, but I liked it. Highly rated amongst the rap/hip hop community but not one I would want to listen to regularly. Maybe I'm a muthafuckka.

3/5 enjoyable beats but has a lot of spoken word. Also not really my preferred style.

I think I would have liked this a lot more if I had heard it when it first came out. Still would have been annoyed by the skits.

A produção aqui é incrível. A duração. 3.5/5

I came close to skipping this album. I'm pleased that I persisted. There's a real pace and bounce throughout. Questionable lyrics, mind.

Ittttttt’s rap.

I wanted to like this more than I did. There are better east coast rap albums from this time period

I totally get why this is revered as an album and it held my interest as a listening experience. I certainly didn't dislike it. Sparse musically. The spoken word dialogue I found interesting, along with the interspersed sound clips from Martial Arts movies. The last four tracks I found the best, but ultimately this just isn't to my musical taste. 3 stars. Would I buy the album? - No. Would I listen again? - As a whole album, no! The odd track? Possibly! 1. "Bring da Ruckus" 4:10 - 3* 2. "Shame on a Nigga" 2:57 - 3* 3. "Clan in da Front" 4:33 - The intro did nothing for me. A noise. But then morphs into a groove. 3* 4. "Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber" 6:05 - Love the spoken word intro. Love the mournful, spooky piano sample. 3* 5. "Can It Be All So Simple" 6:53 - Change of pace. The music evokes summer. It's a little dull though and too long unless it changes up. It doesn't until it gets to the spoken word narrative. 2* 6. "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'" 4:48 - This kicks in hard. 3* 7. "Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing ta F' Wit" 3:36 - They've found the bass! Good chorus. 3* 8. "C.R.E.A.M." 4:12 - Nice piano loop. 3* 9. "Method Man" 5:50 - The best track so far. More depth and fuller sound. Bass. There's even a hint of melody. 3* 10. "Protect Ya Neck" 4:52 - 3*. Following in a similar vein to track 9. 11. "Tearz" 4:17 - Nice vocal sample. 3* 12. "Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber - Part II" 6:10 - I found this to be the best track. 4* 36/60

Another good hip hop album from the 90s.

shi alr french rap from ts period is better tho. :(

Haven't really listened to too much hip-hop, so I don't know what makes a good album in this genre. I thought some of the beats were a bit odd, but in a good way, especially on Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber. There were a few really good bars and equally from all members, plus the sword fighting sfx motif tied the album together well. Sometimes their talking sections went on for too long, but didn't detract from the music that much. Notable Tracks: Shame On A Nigga, Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber, Can It All Be So Simple, C.R.E.A.M. (cash rules everything around me), Method Man, Protect Ya Neck

Wasnt amazing, wasnt awful. Rap had to move on bro I couldnt listen to this all the time. Thank god for the brilliant minds of Kanye and Carti 💕

I don't often enjoy rap, and here, the voices didn't draw me in. The backing was pretty stripped back but I enjoyed some of the groovier bits. 5 out of 10 for enjoyment, I'll round up because my colleague reckons it's quality.

Once again, you should be able to give half ratings on here. This album is easily a 3.5/5. They were so young, so hungry, so ready to take over the world, but with that comes a certain level of inexperience. They definitely became more refined even on the next solo albums that RZA would produce. Ghost and Rae have been, and probably always will be, my favorites out of the Clan. Rae truly shines on "Can It Be All So Simple" and "C.R.E.A.M." of course. Ghost shines on "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'" making sure you didn't forget them when their solo joints dropped in 1995 and 1996, respectively. RZA's beats punch holes in the sides of your head, the bass being mixed so low that it vibrates your brain. It's awesome.

Some great songs but if they say “Gat” one more time im gonna have to end it all

I am sure that this is important and belongs on this list, it just isn't my type of music.

I'm not much of a hip hop guy, but I'm always jealous of crews. Must be so much fun and meaningful to have such a tight group of friends and collaborators. I also appreciate just how all in they are. Creating their own reality.

not really my style but sounds nice, I definitely need to read the lyrics

Good, but for me, not as amazing as many put it out to be. That's mostly due to how uneven it sounds. The first half is blurry, with only the opener and maaaybe Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber that go hard, and then you have the second half from 6-11 which are a collection of songs that put to shame most rappers careers. Because of that disparity of quality, I find it hard to love the album, but easy to like it. ⭐⭐⭐1/2

never listened to smth this vulgar but hey-it's kinda vibe. wouldn't have sat thru this if not for website-felt a bajillion times cooler while listening 🔥 prolly wouldn't listen again unless real shit goes down

I appreciate them. I watched a documentary a while back and was super impressed.

Bopped my head along the whole time, but just still not a huge rap fan.

great beat but not keen on the content
