So much raw energy on this debut album.
The Replacements · 1 likes

I’ve definitely been missing out by not listening to this album over the years. The roots of alt rock taking hold here. Minnesota is underrated for the musicians that come out of there
Guns N' Roses · 1 likes

Most of these songs have been waaaay overplayed over the years, but listening to it as an 'album' for first time in years, it again shows why it was a bit of a groundbreaker for the late 80's and a template for the dirty/grittiness to come.

Iggy Pop
4/5
Pleasantly suprised as I had never listened to the album w/ the single “ Lust for Life” on it. Iggy showing much more range than I thought he had
Guns N' Roses
5/5
Most of these songs have been waaaay overplayed over the years, but listening to it as an 'album' for first time in years, it again shows why it was a bit of a groundbreaker for the late 80's and a template for the dirty/grittiness to come.
The Verve
3/5
Hadn’t heard this album before, only the opening song. Overall solid but extended last song (hidden track) was below average. The last song was actually top notch!!
Adele
3/5
Talented individual but album just isn’t my cup of tea
ZZ Top
5/5
Nostalgic listening time! One of the first cassettes I ever owned, and the album as a whole, still doesn’t disappoint. Obviously Legs, Sharp Dressed Man and Gimme All Your Lovin , were all over the radio and MTV but all the other songs on the album are bangers in their own way!
Pink Floyd
5/5
Epic , but even more epic listening to it for its epicness. Every song interwoven together to tell a story about Syd Barrett
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
Another never before listened to album (just heard a smattering of the songs over the years) but I was pleasantly suprised how it kept me captivated throughout
The Clash
5/5
Such a classic album. First time truely listening to it straight through and it did not disappoint . ‘Clampdown’ and ‘Dead and Glory’ are bangers.
Arcade Fire
4/5
Solid, cohesive album. Became a huge fan of ‘Funeral’, Neon Bible’s predecessor but for some reason never fully listened to this album till now. Need a couple more listens but think I’ll be a huge fan in the future …
Beck
4/5
Crunchy grooves, toe tapping rhythms, very eclectic, but that’s Beck! A fun listen and very impressed!
The Isley Brothers
3/5
It’s good for what it is, time filler with some catchiness. Some solid cuts but meanders a bit.
The Vines
4/5
Sold riff rock - much needed palette cleanser 🤟
Bonnie Raitt
3/5
Good album for listening on the porch, watching sunset, drinking some pop
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
An album that could be playing in background of a poker game. Solid for what it is, but just not up my alley…
Faust
3/5
Odd, electic, but after reading up on them, understood the direction a bit more..
The Strokes
4/5
Brings me back to the turn-of-the-century where guitar rock made a good comeback. Some classics on this and some ones that I haven’t really listened to for a long time. Muy solid
ZZ Top
5/5
One of the few albums fro start to finish that never loses its edge. Texas hot blues for days!
Heaven 17
2/5
Some hold decent funky, bass slapin, beboppin’ at the start of album. The last half was a disaster of early ‘80s cliche synth
Johnny Cash
4/5
Good ol rock a twangy , with down to earth lyrics and funny banter throughout. Enjoyed!
Pavement
4/5
Pavement is one of those ‘90s bands that should have been bigger and have been underrated . Great ‘90s indie album
A Tribe Called Quest
3/5
Another solid album, though not in my wheelhouse, was an enjoyable listen
Mott The Hoople
4/5
The beginnings of the 70’s Glam rock scene.. Weird song titles, a bit spacey but some damn good strong riffs in many of the songs.
Sonic Youth
4/5
Haven’t ever fully listened to this album all the way through. Can’t believe they have been around since ‘81! Enjoyable listen though feel I need a bit more time with it.
Johnny Cash
3/5
No it as good as Live at Folsom Prison. Some good songs, but a lot of chit-chat
Marty Robbins
3/5
It was fine for what it was
Big Black
3/5
Planting the seeds for industrial rock. A bit chaotic but had some interesting tunes.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
5/5
Some dredging post pink with some new wave thrown in. More of a Pop sound by EC with some biting lyrics .
Solomon Burke
4/5
Not someone I was familiar with but was impressed with the tunes and singing
Frank Black
4/5
El letic and melodic. Definitely was suprised how much I enjoyed this 22 song collection.
The Replacements
5/5
I’ve definitely been missing out by not listening to this album over the years. The roots of alt rock taking hold here. Minnesota is underrated for the musicians that come out of there
Electric Light Orchestra
3/5
Always thought ELO was a ‘peppy Pink Floyd’ . Melodic and atmospheric at times though some some of the chorus’ sounded like disco unfortunately
Jimmy Smith
3/5
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Been waiting for a Stones album on this album project. Have really only listened to one of their albums fully (Steel Wheels) over the years so happy to get to dive into one. Overall, not disappointed , honky Tonk blues were on display throughout . A big listen (for one day) and probably still needs to be revisited.
Marilyn Manson
3/5
Pretty much what I thought it would be. Some decent driving tunes, but a little intense overall
Marvin Gaye
3/5
Marvin knew how to get it on. Smoooooooth
Def Leppard
4/5
Some good ol polished and produced 80’s metal. All (or most) of the songs were seemingly hits. It was an enjoyable listen
R.E.M.
5/5
Such a great late ‘80s album. Represented the college alt movement perfectly. Have been a late adopter so learning this decades after the fact
Lauryn Hill
4/5
Always has been a solid album all around though has been years since listening to it.
Astrud Gilberto
2/5
Meh
Fleetwood Mac
5/5
So good, so many hits yet flows like an album should . 🤟

Napalm Death
3/5
Well, it was loud! Grooves were good, lyrics not so much
PJ Harvey
3/5
I enjoyed this, even though PJH looks a bit like Justine Bateman …
Miles Davis
4/5
Cooooler than the other side of the pillow. ‘All Blues’ was 🔥🔥
Blur
4/5
Real solid ‘90s BritPop album. Had a bit of everything…
Sebadoh
3/5
Fine album, not great, not bad. Long AF.
PJ Harvey
3/5
Did not need another PJH within the week… BUT 50ft Queenie and Yuri-G were quite bangers.
Franz Ferdinand
5/5
Such an easy listening, early thoughts indie/dance album. Every song is practically a hit.
Supergrass
3/5
Not sure what to say. Was a solid Britpop album, both great, not bad 🤷♂️
The Cult
5/5
Such a shot in the arm. Was late to The Cult, started with Sonic Temple and worked backwards. So many punchy, catchy rock riffs from Billy and Ian’s Sonic vocals matched perfectly. Did not get bogged down from the late ‘80s cheesiness.
Ray Charles
3/5
Respect
2/5
Not sure if this is one of the albums “you have to listen to before you die..” or “albums that will make you die” They should though charge per letter used in their song titles.
Roni Size
2/5
Could have been worse…allegedly
5/5
Great album from the 1st decade of the 2000’s. ‘Hoodoo’ I probably could have done without but bangers like Starlight, Assassin and Knights of Cyndonia more than make up for it.

3/5
Doom n gloom. Album before they they went a bit more “happier”
The The
2/5
Another British synth pop album….k….
Beastie Boys
5/5
Brilliant and epic. Was a late comer to it but still strong after all these years
The Darkness
3/5
Not their best, but some good ol OG glam with big guitars, big drums and soaring vocals. Justin Hawkins has some raaaaaange, though on the album seem to live in the high vocal register for a bit more than I like
Bert Jansch
3/5
This was nice…and folksy….and nice and folksy . Solid playing
The White Stripes
3/5
Hadn’t listened to this one in a while. Always gravited towards ‘White Blood Cells’ and Elephant but this one, though deviated from those, still was solid in its own right.

The Beach Boys
4/5
Album that was a bit more thematic than previous and one step closer to Pet Sounds - RIP Brian Wilson
Pretenders
5/5
Such a strong debut and a very enjoyable listening experience for the day. Chrissie Hynde is such a bad ass rock star! Need to listen to them much more than I do.
Daft Punk
3/5
If I was into Dance/Electronica, it seems this would be a goto album. But alas, it isn’t my cup of tea but respect their work/following

3/5
Album had its moments. Showed the talents of S&G though as always, like them in small bites.

Holger Czukay
2/5

Emmylou Harris
3/5
Some decent tunes, not bad. Feel I need to be drinking whisky on a lake.
Metallica
4/5
Take the band names and about 5 of the songs that have been played 4.8 billion times out, and it’s a solid hard rock album. Rack the name on, it’s divisive as hell. ‘Holier than Thou’ though is an underrated banger
Gene Clark
3/5
This was listenable, not bad. Nothing stood out, but didn’t suck 👍
Ms. Dynamite
3/5
