Too much talking

Hip-hop. Ni fu ni fa.

I have heard so much about Wu-Tang Clan, that it became an incredible sensation from 90s that is beloved by everyone. This is actually the first time I've listened to their album, or any song, in fact. I was trying so hard to be enamored as everyone else, but it just didn't clicked. Nice beats, nice lyrics, nice flow, but nothing that would make me say 'wow'. I really tried, and I will probably try again, just because it's a groundbreaking album, but as for now, average experience, average rating.

Not as brilliant as I remembered, but still very fun

Wu-Tang's debut is obviously hugely influential and groundbreaking. Listening 30 years later, and the beats are still extraordinary - the lyrics not as much. Yes there are bangers like 'Bring da Ruckus', 'Da Mystery of Chessboxin' (coincidentally, today Ding Liren just became World Chess Champion... and I guess something happened in boxing as well), 'C.R.E.A.M.' and 'Protect Ya Neck', but it's mainly the production carrying the load. And goddamn intermissions on an hour long record should be banned. D'ya know what I'm sayin'?

It’s not really for me but honestly not bad 3/5.

I get it. A bit strong for my tea at times but

Flew by, but I can't remember any of it.

Some good old school hip-hop.

Better than expected but ridiculous amount of bad language takes shine off for me

Interesting, a lot of the best parts of this are in the lyrics and I've only touched it at the surface I think

liked all of the songs on this album. but it went on for a bit too long in my opinion

Although interesting, not my cup of tea. The mix sounds odd sometimes but I do like some songs.

Definitely was bopping my head to some of these tracks. Didn't enjoy the skits and some of the lyrics were cringey and violent. I'll concede this album wasn't made for old white guys like me but I can appreciate how important this album was to East Coast Hip Hop and Rap in general.

Love some songs on this album but still have trouble getting through the whole thing.

not a fan of gangsta rap but i really enjoyed this one

I listened to the extended version, which was a mistake because it really wore me out by the end, and some of those fucked up little skits really helped wear out the welcome. Some good stuff here for sure though. I don't know, I always love hearing Wu-Tang here and there, small doses for me I guess.

I know it's a classic album, but I can't really get into it. Inventive concept in hip-hop at the time, but... meh. It's not bad by any means, but just average for my tastes.

3/5, not my genre. Sounds like shit.

Enjoyable album which I thought went from strength to strength throughout. Liked the whole persona and clan fighting backdrop

It was alright. Not really my thing but I can see some of the influence it had

Finished!

Got a soft spot for early nineties hip-hop, so thought I would like this more than I did.

Most original rap from this time period, but obviously some of the most original work musically ever.

Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is the debut studio album of American hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, released in 1993 and later became multiplatinum. The record is widely regarded as one of the most significant albums of the 1990s, as well as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. In 2022, the album was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". I like oldschool hip-hop, but this record has not inspired me a lot. Song I liked: Tearz, Protect Ya Neck. (21/02/2023).

I like the beat, but not a fan of most of the lyrics. I can see how this makes the list though.

Not bad

not my kind of music by i got it

I expected a two, but I liked this album a bit more than some of the other rap albums I've gotten. Not entirely sure why. Perhaps I like the sampling more? I also appreciate that it isn't an hour long. My favourite song was Can It Be All So Simple.

Rap del bueno

Catchy Songs, very NWA. Good Variety.

Album orecchiabile e ritmato, sottofondo ambient rap/hip-pop Canzoni preferite 1. C.R.E.A.M 2. Da Mistery of Chessboxin' 3. Method man

Hørt CREAM før. Inspirert mange artister. Kul med beatsa med relativt old-school jazz samples.

Flow flow flow...

very interesting not my cup of tea but it was good in its own way

Not my overall current genre of music that I wanna listen to. But I respect it and have listened before. Some songs are not something I care to listen to again, unless while listening to the whole album start to finish, other songs I can fuck with.

I think I'm less interested in the big rap collectives. I tended to prefer Ice Cube and Dre over NWA, and Public Enemy usually felt more like Chuck D, with some occasional interjection from Flav. Not that I didn't like this. I don't know that I'd listen again.

2/9, 22%

The coarse, uncut energy I needed today. Though I expected a bit more diversity in the bars and would've hoped for a little less repetitiveness in the beats, the pounding flows and undeniable fury behind the performances make this a pump-up album I'll be returning to whenever I need some backing tracks for some righteous anger.

Not really for me overall (though I did like a couple of tracks.)

So many fun & hard hitting songs on this album and it's no surprise that they have such a cult following. Album is solid, not too much that I don't like on it. I feel like they have a few songs that I know that are pretty memorable and when I listened to this album it surprisingly felt like they blended together and it wasn't jam packed with standout moments. That could be just the circumstances of where I was when I was listening to the album though, which is a pretty common concept when album listening on this list. For me it's between a 3 and a 4 but leaning more 3 so 3 it shall be.

Not my style at all and it didn’t convert me. But I enjoyed it enough, a few passages were pretty clever, and I can respect its enormous influence. I recognized a bunch of phrases, particularly in CREAM, that must have entered pop culture via this record.

Blir litt inspirert til å sjekka ut hiphopens historie

Nää biitit on kyl aika sairaita. Paras biisi: C.R.E.A.M. Huonoin biisi: Clan in da front

Never been a huge fan, but some good tracks on here

Groundbreaking but dated.

me gustó

Not something I'd usually listen to, but great regardless. C.R.E.A.M. was the only song I was properly familiar with before listening to the whole album, but there were plenty more that I ended up enjoying.

One of the OG Hip-Hop groups that broke through to the mainstream. Hailing from New York, it definitely has a different feel to that of hip-hop from the West Coast. Wu-Tang feel more freestyle in their flow, which is punctuated by more subtle references to crime and violence and underscored by underground beats and numerous samples. Best: C.R.E.A.M Worst: Tearz

Interessante, ma speravo di più

Definitely not my type of music, but I can understand the appeal. Some songs did leave much to be desired in terms of the backing rhythm and the ability of the singers to sync up properly, but some flow decently well, such as "C.R.E.A.M." and "Wu-Tang Ain't Nuthing ta F' Wit". Overall an album I can respect even though I didn't enjoy it.

Not bad, but not particularly good. Very repetitive.

Sounded repetitive, but I’ll try to give it one more listen.

Mabye it's one of the greatest album, but Rap is not my cup of tea!

3.5/5. Classic hip-hop

I expected to hate this, it's not a genre of music that I enjoy - but while I cannot honestly say I'd rush out an buy it, parts were far more "listenable" than I'd anticipated.

Not a fan of rap but liked the feel of this album. Good beats and vocals with a bit of martial arts in the background

Didn't really stick in my mind, I think it's really good and really creative but it just isn't my thing. I thoroughly enjoyed listening but I don't feel a desire to listen again. I think if it was more my speed it would be 5 stars.

Not really my style but it was good. Definitely understand how this album was so influential to the genre. I’d listen again.

So good rapping but skits interfered

I liked this more than I thought I would! More like a 3.5.

Quite good. A bit gritty sound but I understand why they were huge.

One of the better hip hop albums and one I definitely should've been into back when I first got into hip hop.

Okay, this took some time to get into. The shouted refrain of “Bring da Motherfuckin’ Ruckus” is kinda a stress test at the beginning of the album for me, but the album hits a stride from Tracks 6-9 that’s hard not to like. S/o to the fuzzy bass on the final track as well, “7th Chamber- Pt. 2”. Like many albums, my opinion is still forming after the first listen (could I name all members of the clan? No). 06/22/22

Not a genre for me. I understand it's significance but I hate the interludes and the lyrics are just comic bravado. Love the kung fu soundtrack samples and how rhe different voices work together. I guess this polarized a lot of people but I'm gonna give it a 3.

Much better than I thought it would be

Wasn't in the right mood for this one

Didn't gripper me, but there were some good tracks. Solid 3/5 from me.

One good song, the rest is boring

Hip-hop. Ni fu ni fa.

Good album for me to listen to

Pretty good, I really enjoyed this even though I have no clue when it comes to rap/hip-hop

Eh, they are okay.

Stand out tracks - Can It Be All So Simple - C.R.E.A.M.

did not like it as much as i used to

Perhaps I was not in the mood for it ..but for some reason I did not manage to get into this album - it still ok of course but I liked it more in the past.

Joj ovi likovi šta se kurče i viču. That said, kao netko tko ne zna ništa o rapu, sviđa mi se ritam. Ne bih slušala u slobodno vrijeme. Možda za nabrijavanje.

A bit crude but can respect the sound

Of all of the classic rap albums I've heard on this list, this has been one of the better ones. It was also much less aggressive than what I associate with. Fav: can it be all so simple

I hated this stuff in the mid-90s. Now it gives me a bit of a warm nostalgic f***ing glow.

Sure it's ok. Some decent jams but not really for me.

I'm not a rap fan. But this sounds better than most, but won't be adding it to my library. They make the movie sound clips work well. I liked "Can It All Be So Simple"

Good for a 1 time listen!

I don't hate it, but by the same token, I don't love it.

Pretty good, never heard them before but lived up to the hype!

Not my fav Wu-Tang. I like the audio clips from the music but am not too wild about the dialog that goes in between. The rest is cool. Don't love or hate. Just think they have better albums.

Cool grooves, lyrics are pretty rough, but at least they keep the misogyny to a minimum. Enjoyed the unique styles of each rapper. Lots of great (and sometimes obscure) references. Bring da Ruckus and Shame on a N***a are both really cool, but I think if I ever tried to rap along with them where anyone could hear I'd get my ass kicked. Comparing it to contemporaries, I liked the grooves on Dr. Dre's The Chronic a lot more and I felt it had a lot more variety than this album.

Fun and interesting, but I just don't have the concentration span for it.

Wu-Tang Clan ain’t nothin to fuck with

Sweary with some cracking samples

Pretty good though a bit repetitive. Not my favorite hip hop discovery that honor goes to the Marshall Mathers LP so far. But still some good stuff here. 3.5 🌟

Solid album. I don't usually listen to rap, so I don't really have any way of rating it against other rap.

It's not bad. It's unique, which is cool, but I didn't find anything that really hooked me in the way I was hoping.

I enjoyed this album.

This isn’t my favorite genre, but I still liked it for what it was. A good amount of head bopping was had. The old school martial arts references and noises in the songs were my favorite part. Enjoyable album, but most likely won’t listen to again.

Surprisingly enjoyed it, good beats to work to !

Hip hop funkie, catchy beats y RZA.

Interesting, just made me angry LOL

Straight-A rapping. Just not really my can of soup

Its not the subgenre of hiphop I'd usually listen to, but it was interesting to give a go. It's undeniably good at what it does

:/ not sure... I don't hate it, I don't love it... I somewhat understand it's presence in this list though :)

I remember buying this in high school at a Sam Goody with high hopes, then getting bored with the repetition and just waiting for the moments when ODB or Method Man would show up - the two of the Wu that were the funniest and had the most dynamic voice and flow. Years later I feel about the same way, but want to show growth and personal development so will say some good things. Anytime there's more melody in the production beyond drums and a 3 second piano loop, I'm in. The string of songs from Chessboxing>Nuthing>CREAM>Method is unimpeachable. This is way harder than their West Coast rivals. The Shaolin concept is cool as hell. Chillin chillin. B

Loved driving around and having this on in the car.

Brings me back to the days I listened to a lot of gangsta rap. Cool sound and beats, but not as good as acts like Public Enemy and N.W.A. Nice album though

Interesting intro to hip hop

Didn’t the instant enjoyment from this as much as some of other 90s hip hop albums we’ve heard so far. Found each song pretty similar. But once it was on the headphones and en route to work it packed a punch

"The sword? come on, give him the sword" (Clan in da front) "Well I'm a sire, I set the microphone on fire Rap styles vary, and carry like Mariah" (Da mystery of chessboxin) Bastante fascinada con todo el concepto del Wu-Tang Clan, la verdad.

Couple of legendary tracks, but mostly not a rap fan.

Never been a huge rap guy, but this was a cool listen. Don’t think I’ll ever come back to any of the songs or the album as a whole, but I enjoyed it. These albums for me are more enjoyable when taken as a whole than when looking at individual songs.

A side was a lot stronger than b. I do enjoy that style of rap, it was just a lot of the same

Having just listened to Method Man's "Tical", this album comes across as a bit unfocused? Or, I guess, it's more focused on mythology building than it is the music... Fave track - "C.R.E.A.M." - C'mon, that shiz is iconic.

Great album. Old school. Reminded me of the early 90’s, big time!

Not for me

Needs another listen

Pretty good. Backing tracks a bit repetitive. Not quite Tribe, but better than Kanye.

Didn't listen to the whole thing

Muistelin että olis ollut kovempi pläjäys

I know I've heard some of this before but can't remember much about it. It's pretty good, most of them know what they're doing, and it has that mid 90s swagger I love that seems to exist across all sorts of genres. Maybe it's the production? Not gonna end up in regular rotation, bit too much of a deep cut in a genre I don't really care that much about, but solid 3/5.

4/10 There's nothing wrong with this album, but I just don't find it sonically pleasing. Compared to other early 90s rap/hip-hop albums (which I've received a glut of lately), this is a well- produced but kind of soulless album. Interestingly, having looked at other reviews, this critique is unusual - most people say the opposite. I just feel like they use a whole bunch of words to say very little, and the samples from classic kung-fu movies, 60s/70s motown, and interviews are pretty interesting. Ultimately this just isn't my kind of music.

I had high expectations for this one, but it fell short for me. Wu-Tang’s a huge name, but I was pretty disappointed by the album.

I know people love Wu-Tang. I do not.

Nao e a minha cena

I like it

While I understand the cultural significance, the album itself hasn’t aged that well. Beats are OK, delivery meh, and so much swearing. Like… I get why it’s so important as a piece of art, paving the way for generations to come, but, it doesn’t do much to me.

Fine listen but with no stand outs for me.

When to listen: Feeling NYC pride? Honestly I wish I was cool enough to like Wu-Tang Clan but I don't care for rap, I didn't care for the lyrics... all around nah. Bumped up a point for cultural impact.

A little fun, but not my bag. Sometimes offputtingly crude. Makes me just want to listen to the Roots.

Meh. Hip-hop is not my thing. I kinda get the vibe but I'd rather listen to something else instead. Plus I didn't understand the lyrics.

Edelleenkään ei räppi oo mun musiikkia. Aivan liikaa uhoa, F- ja N-sanaa.

Sadly I can't stand most of hip hop

Homie talking about shoving a piping hot metal clothes hanger up someone's ass had me so baffled that I missed my exit... that said, there were some good jams and I see the impact this album had on hip hop as a whole, but it's not really my genre.

only listened to this bcs it got mentioned in himym

its definitely something

not for me

started off thinking I was a fan. ended up being bored and feeling icky

I get why this was a popular release I dont much care for the profusion of explicit language, and the style of rap is not my go-to It's fine, just not for me

Great beats, good samples. Wish there was instrumental versions. It's a shame. I know it's revered and seminal yada yada but not really for me.

Vraiment pas bon!

Not my thing

Not the biggest fan of hip hop. Old school rap and had some good samples.

Started, wasn’t immediately offended, got distracted, can’t be arsed to go back.

Pugilistic

pas mon truc du tout

Ehhhhhh, wanted to appreciate it more than I did.

It is alright.

Not the kind of music I use to hear, cannot comment or rate it. I'm far away from rap/hip hop.

The best hip-hop is no hip-hop...

I heard a Ghostface Killah album recently and really liked it, making me think I would like Wu-Tang Clan. No is the answer at least for this album. It felt very one note.

Not my style.

I hate to be such a hater!! This just isn’t my fav type of music

No es mucho mi estilo la vd.

Guns and knives and boredom?

Could never really get into the Wu-Tang Clan, sorry.

A bit too much of all the stuff I don't like in old school rap albums for me. It is somewhat too vague, too angry and the music isn't really standing out at all. 2/5

First listen here. the album was ok, the mezcla was decent/normal I guess, and the lyric to be honest my english is not that good to understand by listening to it once. so I guess I'll listen to it for the rest of the day. But in conclusion to normal not is a big thing.

No favorite

Ehh, I don't love this sort of hip-hop. I get that it was influential for its time, but it just doesn't grab me in any way. The musical side is fairly pedestrian, and the rapping is a lot of guy barking lyrics at you without a lot of variation or interest for me. C.R.E.A.M. is one track I can listen to, but even that overstays its welcome by the end of it.

Not for me. I can appreciate what these guys are doing, how they moved music along. I just don't like listening to music like this.

Have heard big things about WTC in the past, this wasn't for me. would give a 2.5 / 5.

I wouldn't listen to this outside of the generator, I get the acclaim but it's just not for me

Really not my taste. No traditional instruments, versatile musicians. Just couldn’t make it thru…

Good album.

Since I was a teenager in the 90s, I've never understood the greatness of Wu-Tang Clan and listening to this in my 40s, perhaps expectedly, didn't change that.

Very interesting album. The rap is good. Good flow, nice beats. However, the language is very vulgar. The whole wu-tang vibe taken from old Chinese kung fu movies is a bit gimmicky. There isn’t much diversity. It feels like listening to the same song. The beat is always very similar.

Really repetitive beats and seemed to drag on way too long.

I recently had another 1993 hip-hop album (Doggystyle) which I thought had aged really well (in terms of production, not lyrically!) 36 Chambers is, of course, even more solidified as a classic, and it also stands up pretty well, even if the rhythm of many of the flows sound very much of their era. It's interesting that the production and beats in hip-hop seemed to evolve far more quickly than the rapping. That's not to say this has the same trademark "dinosaur flow" which makes much of late 80s hip-hop unlistenable to me - clearly there was significant evolution around the turn of the 90s - even if it is still sounds somewhat primitive in many ways to modern ears. Rhyming "diarrhea" with "gonnorhea" for example, is something that I wouldn't necessarily expect to hear in contemporary hip-hop. Although maybe a bar like that is more compatible with the brainrot music of 2026 than I'd like to acknowledge. Everything comes full circle huh. Anyway, despite showing it's age, it's easy enough to see why 36 Chambers is revered as a classic. The sheer number of different characters who get on the mic keeps the flows from sounding too stagnant, the kung-fu movie samples make the beats sound unique (even if I expected more of these samples tbh, they largely disappear after the first track). But at the end of the day, this is rap from a time before the technical evolution of the late 90s, with the trademark tedious skits and some questionable bars spat over dusty, boombap beats. I can see why it's so revered, and it's a good time, but this sort of thing is just not something I have any real affection for or desire to return to. Ok I was gonna give this 3 stars and then in 'Method Man' they start talking about how they're gonna apply torture techniques to a guy's balls, dick AND asshole. Like, that's weird AF, why was this scene so simultaneously homophobic and obsessed with penises? Odd behaviour honestly. So there you have it, I prefer Doggystyle to 36 Chambers I guess? Mad.

1/3. Maybe I need to give it a listen in headphones rather than speakers (ironic for a rap album), but holy shit this is muddy. Couldn't understand most of the lyrics (not good news for rap) and the production just sounds so lo-fi. As a fan of 3 6 Mafia I don't think that's a bad thing, but their music has the low-end thump to make up for the muddiness, where these guys don't. I know it's legendary and iconic, but I was not a fan.

I know people love this band and I appreciate rap and hip hop but I’m also at the point in my life where I need more expressive lyrics that “mother fuckin’ n****r.” And to be fair there are some really clever lyrics and creative samples and references, but way too much “ mother fuckin’ n****r” for my taste.

Still not my genre.

non mi è piaciuto

Im ngl i didnt like it that much. Lots of chatting in between songs about not very nice things.

03/03/2026 1. bring da ruckus - like the spoken word intro.... love the samples. alright, but doesn't have that oomph to push it into something i really like. like the kindof glitching sound near the end. 2. shame on a xxxxx - liking this one more immediately. love the horns and the scratching. love the piano. got a bit bored towards the end... 3. clan in da front - love the bass in this one. alright. 4. wu-tang: 7th chamber - liked this one more than the other songs, but still not massive on it :/ maybe it's not my thing? or i'm not in the right mood? *5. can it all be so simple/intermission - love the sampling and the bass(?)... reeaaaally nice. 6. da mystery of chessboxin - like the scratching. gets a bit boring after a while... 7. wu-tang clan ain't nuthing ta f'wit - same as the others really... *8. cream - love the samples!! liking the lyrics more as well. really liked this one!! 9. method man - not massive on this one either. 10. protect ya neck - like the squealing sound in the back. too long for me. 11. tearz - liking this one more... probably wouldn't choose to listen to it again though. 12. wu-tang: 7th chamber part ii - liking the beat... wasn't massive on the gangster rap lyrics (eg. the start of method man....) or the beats which just sounded the same after a while... really liked the more political and emotional lyrics of cream or tearz though.

Niet echt voor mij

not my apple

Really not my vibe

Might just not be my genre or decade for that genre but I think this is just fine.

It's not my thing.

Note : 2 À réécouter : Non

Pretty crap

I dalje nemam sposobnost da nađem bilo šta zanimljivo na hip hop albumu.

- I love me some rap but I just can never get the Wu .... maybe someday but not today. -

Not my taste

Not really my bag

was vibing with this but the speaking parts really threw me at times lol

It's not my style, but I still gave it a chance and listened to the whole thing, and I saved a few tracks I liked. I give it a 3/10; it's simply not my kind of music.

well, I'm not sure how to rate it. It for sure is not my cup of tea but it has a really good flow and i really liked the old school beats. Maybe it's just that i can't relate to the lyrics, and that I like songs to have a bit more of melody.

This album just want for me.

okayyyish

Really had trouble getting into this one, other than the beats.

I get the reason for its importance, but eh.

Decent.

Similar feelings as with the GZA solo album I had just two days ago. It's good rap, but like all early rap, it's just people speaking over basic beats. Actually It's slightly worse than GZA album. I can hear the beginnings of what would become my favorite songs, but it's like seeing childhood videos of amazing actors. Best song: C.R.E.A.M.

Enough already of the Wu-Tang Clan collective and solo efforts. They do nothing for me. So tired of the pathetic aggressively masculine posturing and hectoring vocals in this genre

I dig the raw sound, but it's not my type of music.

Yeah not my type of music… but nice vibe. Imagine East Coast 90s wow

Not great for me

2 1/2 stars. Maybe I should listen to it. I just don’t get it.

Very fun

Not really what i like, but sounds okay

Apparently this album was responsible for the renaissance of East Coast rap music and has been designated as historically significant. Esteemed music critics viewed as one of the best albums of all time. For me it was just another hip hop record. I did enjoy some of the lyrics, however.

Not bad, short

Fine, but not for me

What makes this more special than much of the rap out there?

Didnt really like this kind of rap

There are people that enjoy it for sure, I believe I could find a song if I kept listening

this is maybe the 3rd time im listening to this album and maybe finally starting to see its appeal. for whatever reason keep zoning out and cant seem to focus on the lines (which im assuming might be part of the allure, because musically not much going on). might keep giving this a shot becuase its so highly regarded though i feel bad.

I get why this is important, I just don’t really dig it

If this is one of the greatest hip hop albums ever, then I don't like hip hop. Congrats on the influence, but don't want to listen to it again.

love method man but 70% of this album is for me unlistenable for a variety of reasons

legend. but not my style

Not really my vibe. Enjoyed a couple of songs briefly but just not amazing.

I can respect the art but I couldn’t get into any one song. I did enjoy the theme of the samplings throughout the album.

The overall impression is of protest, it isn’t music. Some of the backing tracks could sound good with some music played over the top. The shouting was unintelligible and apart from encouraging aggression makes no discernible political points. It might be that I cannot appreciate the genre but I thought it was just noisy shouty rubbish.

Apparently this is older hip-hop and feel more like trad jazz compared to Kendrick or Doom who are more free and bebop. First intelligent conversation with Jonny about Hip Hop. Still don't particularly like it and can't tell what they're on about but it has wit and that counts for something.

Not my jam

I realize how important this album is to the history of hip-hop and rap... Still doesn't make me want to listen to it though. The concept of them being like a Chinese martial arts monk order is pretty cute at first, it all still just boils down to the usual rap-isms of flexing how much cooler and stronger you are than your "opponents". Eh.

I dont like it, although some songs are chill

It’s impressive they invented a whole sound while smoking meth but I’m not too into it

Not really my thing

No standouts, Wu-Tang may not be for me.

Not my kind of music so this may not be the best review but I could not enjoy this. The movie dialogue was the best part.

Some good beats but man, there's a lot of it. The chatting bits are especially tedious. I liked when it finished.

Sounds like Beastie Boys. I hated Beastie Boys

There's a lot I can say about this album and what it's influenced, and how distinctly American it is, how it couldn't be anything but American. But in the end I can just say it's not for me.

Today was not the day to listen to violence glorifying music. There was some really sick stuff in here, the torture descriptions in "Method Man" come to mind. The music was really nothing special either, but they found their gimmick.

Classic oldschool hip-hop album that was instrumental in the 90s. Explicit and aggressive, generally. "Clan in Da Front" has sweet piano work. Strange vocal choices to create a wavey sound "C.R.E.A.M. Cash Rules Everything Around me" is surprisingly mellow with a simple beat, piano plucking, and steady rap rhythm.

I honestly did not like this album one bit. I guess one of my problems with gangster rap in the first place is I can't get behind the message of gang and Thug Life it's something i neither experience for myself so can relate nor something that I aspire for my personal choices. I guess what gets me the most is the anger and rage at herent in the material kind of manifest itself inside my listening experience and I don't like that feeling at all. I definitely can't call this a bad album which means that it's not going to be something I write lower than two stars. But my inherent dislike for this style of rap will put it at the lower ens of two stars 4.1 ★★

Depends on the mood

Hip hop is just not my thing 2/5

I can respect its influence on hip-hop, but it’s not my jam. I know some people find a lot of charm in this record, but it felt muddy, messy, and just not very enjoyable to me. Probably not something I’ll ever revisit.

It is a decent album for sure. I personally struggle with this format though. The key selling point of albums like this is the rap and apart from that has zero musical merit from my perspective (repeated numb beats). Therefore makes this quite a slog to get through and the sillyness and macho element doesnt really appeal so struggle to find a connection with it.

Could've needed more bas

I'll start the review by saying I'm not the biggest fan of Hip Hop so you'll have to take everything with a grain of salt. A few positive things I could find on this album are the following: The lyrics can be funny at times although I felt like it lacked actual themes because most of the album's themes can be summarized with: "I'm better than you and I'm gonna hurt you fuck you", which I totally get it can be someone's vibe, just not mine. The vibe is pretty much constant throughout the album and the MCs are most definitely charismatic and they differentiate from each other very much, great performance at the very least. Now I'll go with what I didn't like: The skits (but I generally don't like skits, so that's just me) The beats. I don't get how people are saying they are beautifully produced and all of that when it's always the generic 4/4 drum beat accompanied by a bass line and a minimalistic piano. In every song. Like, who are we kidding? Illmatic came out half a year later and the beats aren't as lazy or boring as these ones are, it's not even a "it was good for its time" thing. Review is relatively short, but since, as I already said, I'm not much into hip hop, there's nothing else really I'd be able to say. Perhaps I'm just too white and european to fully get this. Either way, this is just my opinion. So try not to pay too much attention to it.

Like others, I appreciate the cultural significance of this album. I find the skits cringe to listen to and the kungfu style a bit stale. The beats get repetitive and the lyrics are just violent, yet real. Maybe that’s the appeal, but as a white boy from the suburbs it’s not my taste. C.R.E.A.M. Is a classic though, 2.5 stars.

When I heard the first song, I thought it was exactly my cup of tea. But the more songs I listened to, the more they felt very standard. It’s like listening to the same Gorillaz song over and over again.

This was pretty good. Really flows from track to track. I’ve never really listened to wutang outside of some songs here and there. So this was interesting but what stands out the most is this sounds like a rap album from the mid to later 90s, not 92. Which really tells how far advanced the sound on this was. Or that everyone started copying wutang.

En jaksanut kuunnella loppuun. Biisit kuulostaa aika samalta joten kyllästyi nopeasti.

Not my thing at all. No melody, harmony, or complex instrumentation.

Some say it's good

Non fa per me

2/5 - I needed to hear this record so I could say I tried. It’s hard to access this album without a guide when it’s so far outside what I typically listen to, especially lyrically. Obviously, this is a landmark hip-hop album, and it will get plenty of high marks. I was fine with several songs, but when you’re not in on the joke on the skits, it’s annoying, and the album doesn’t invite spending more time on it.

This is a style of rap I have never really enjoyed. The beats are lackluster and that is what usually makes up for the dated style for me on these older albums. I feel like this album began all the trends I dislike in east coast 90s rap.

very popular band, but i'm not able to vibe with the tracks

Hmmm ok head bopping stuff but a but boring after a while

2/5, ain't nothin to f*** with

sin las letras es un disco pesado.

Not my genre, just C.R.E.A.M was listenable (

Day 4 First listen- I enjoyed it the first few songs more than I thought I would, although I started to get a bit bored halfway through. I need to listen again for fair judgement. (2.5/5)

Boring, with super simple bases and with not fun at all "humorous" interludes (skits, they say). Why can you be gangsta and at the same time keep doing stuff for fun? This is something I cannot understand at all. Shouldn't you be all danger and seriousness? Whatever. I know this album *is* a classic, but to be honest, I don't get it.

Hoo boy. Another hip-hop album. Been rolling a lotta these lately. There’s like ~30 of these on the list, right? I’ll be through these soon enough, right? I’m not crazy, right, right? Just joshing. I’m benevolent and think all forms of musical expression are worthwhile. There have been some winners in the hip-hop scene lately. I’ve added four hip-hop songs to my 1001 Albums playlist. A respectable achievement given that I, rather fittingly, only have 101 songs on that playlist. It’s just that these albums are always so long. I was absolutely left for dead with the hour ten runtime of Stankonia and now I have to wade through another hour-longer. The movie samples are fun along with the pop culture references. There’s a nice underground atmosphere to some of the songs and I enjoy the mild Chinese theming, but this ain’t for me. I’ve bitched and moaned about hip-hop at great length, so I’ll just move on to the highlights. Shame on a Nigga is the best song on the album – very catchy with the best instrumental and vocal performances on the album. C.R.E.A.M. is pretty alright, too. I like the instrumental and the songwriting is very competent. Let’s check the book. I know Wu-Tang Clan are popular (if only due to my familiarity with the infamous Once Upon a Time in Shaolin), so as far as music history goes this is a solid pick. Unconventional subject matter. Eight-man band. Still timeless years later. Taking a peruse through the Wikipedia page reveals that this album is more influential than the book lets on. Can’t fault this one. Solid pick.

Meh. It is alright. I don't see the appeal.

i am not a fan of rap, but ill give it two stars for impact

not my cup of tea or preferred rap genre, it was a tough listen especially through method man which i think has scarred me slightly. more misses that hits although the hits would have me shaking ass at a club. my favourite song was Wu-Tang clan aint nuthing ta F' wit which i would listen to again.

Not my style but good tunes for others :).

Dug it but not my favorite

I really didn't like it.

I know of Wu-Tang more than I listen to them. Maybe this was groundbreaking at the time, but it seems basic and a bit silly now. Shlock Horror Hip Hop, I guess. Probably more a fan of the solo projects, such as Method Man, tbh.

This genre is not for me.

Didn't feel like relistening because it's good (obviously) but ehhhh

Not my cup of tea.
