Absolutely foundational to most of this list I would wager. This is one of those artists I almost wish I could have experienced through the lens of living in that time. Fully of energy and fire.

Had a cheeky rock n roll to this
It’s not an overstatement to say about 75% of modern popular music wouldn’t exist without Little Richard and this album.
Can’t not love Little Richard!
Old R&R. Vinilo.
This guy had energy! I can only imagine he sweat like his album cover when he performed because it is so full of life, energy, fun and emotion. Nothing is super deep, but its so fun it doesn't need to be. This is music you can dance to and have a good time! While no piece on its own is spectacular, all together it is!
YES! I love this old time rock n bop. Little Richard is one of my favorite musicians. This is the kind of piano pounding, hot sax rock n roll that makes my heart skip a beat.
Loved this. So much fun energy and hard to find any flaws. Just a boppin’ great time!
This album was fun
Hell yeah
fun, first album. Listened too it while programming and winded up focusing on the music
I liked it
Great record!
The rootinest tootinest most funnest record you’ll ever hear. Pure energy, pure passion, pure soul.
Yeah I've listened to all of these before. Little Richard is great
This is a great record. Just awesome, early rock and roll.
Culturally significant to say the least.
So good. Energy, drive, really the beginnings of rock and roll - albeit with an early corporate bent.
Excited to listen to this! I can see how influential it was, but it's still a lot less tedious to listen to other old 50s rock albums I've had on here. I think they all still stand up! 5
One man cultural revolution. Androgyny, black pride, teenage rebellion, sexual freedom, etc. All here in a handful of singles plus extras more minimal than punk, much wilder than Elvis. Little Richard was the King AND Queen of Rock and Roll.
The inventor of Rock’N’Roll. Wooo! 5/5
Hostoric, iconic
If you build it, others will follow. And whether you like the music or not, or agree that much of it sounds alike is not important. When you create something that has downstream influential effects for so many future musicians…while lasting over a half century, it is no wonder you are given the title of the architect of rock n’ roll.
During my research one source claims that “ah rootie” was slang for “alright” and the original lyrics were “tuttie frutti good bootie” referring to sex in the butt. Whether true or not it makes me laugh and I shelf consider it as legit. Anyhoo, I’m inconsistent about how much credit I give albums for the time period they came out. I try to base more on my tastes but how good this album is for how old it is blows my mind. For me this was absolutely great and still very listenable after nearly 70 years.
Foundational rock and roll.
it’s little Richard…sounds contemporary, production is efficient and his voice mamma Mia.
Did not use a private session for this. Fun, rock and roll from one of the originals.
So good. A classic. It went by so fast. I guess that's what happens when every second of the album is essential without long repetitive instrumentals. Straight to the point. Perfection. Great powerful singing and instruments. Highlights: Tutti Frutti True, Fine Mama Ready Teddy Slippin' And Slidin' Rip It Up
Man, his music is fun. Not sure how he had a voice after singing, but what a great album.
5 stars
Classic! Joyous!
What can I say. As some Jazz records and some Blues records before this is not only a Genre defining exercise. More than much of what came after, this is a fundamental part of a shift in culture. Not much to say about the music itself these days. I am not particular into it, but recognise it as the essential recording it is. There are many things on the list I do prefer musically but would nonetheless never rate as high.
This is a significant album deserving its place in the list. Not necessarily because of its musical content but more because of Little Richard’s importance in musical history and his influence on artists who have produced some of the best music ever. Little Richard’s influence on me was through my elder brother who played the music on this album incessantly. Even though I’m now old I was just a 4 year old when this album came out so I do wonder if my lifelong love of music was nurtured during this time and with this music. I also recollect that a bit later on, mid 60’s perhaps, there was quite a famous TV special of a Little Richard concert. He sang all these songs but what I remember most is the way he threw himself into the music. I have images of him sweating profusely and having to wipe his face after every song. Also sometimes using his feet to play his piano which resonated with me and why I used to love watching one of my later heroes Keith Emerson play. Every song on this album is a banger and will be familiar to anyone with music in their bones. Looking at the music nowerdays through modern eyes and ears the music on this album may sound basic and the song structures all very similar. So some may argue why is this album on the list? My view is that just take a look at the artists Little Richard influenced with the music on this album. Top of the list surely are The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. Need I say more? 5/5 4/7/24
Like it still slaps. So good.
One of the best!
Jenny Jenny
GOATED
Wife noted that Adele took some notes on the more ballady numbers, and I'm afraid this can't be unheard. Man between him and chuck berry, I dunno - who is the true king and father of rock and roll? The philosophers can hash that one out. Wish recording technology at that point had caught up to whatever far distant future he was pulling this in from. 5 for long tall sally and the many 'whoo's that so captured Paul McCartney, and you know, the importance. Claimed he had the misery but he's having lots of fun. Better duck back down the alley
Amazing album. The influence alone puts this at 5 stars. Little Richard dazzles with his vocals and just good old Rock & Roll. *****
Fun piece of history
good stuff
Originality + Greatness = Icon. One of the true founders of Rock 'n Roll.
I'll be the first to admit all these tracks are variations on a theme but what a voice and what a sound. It's probably best enjoyed at a party where everyone is moving and grooving (or in the background when I'm making a meal at the weekend) rather than active or attentive listening, where the saminess is likely to grate.
Quality rock and roll, probablybthe guy who made all this happen.
The origin of rock n roll. What a legend!
I always love old school rock and roll. I knew most of these songs already. Easy listening today!
Excellent album. Not a bad song on it.
Such amazing energy. It just bops from start to finish. So many recognizable songs. I can't think of any reason not give this full marks.
Such incredible energy - would love to have a time machine and catch his act at it's inception...
Absolutely a classic
Little Richard brings the fun and the energy! The OG. Not sure how you don’t love this one.
I'm not sure it's possible for me to appreciate this album or its impact given that I grew up hearing music like this--it never was fresh in the way it must have been to be an adult and hear music like this for the first time. Still, the swinging piano, sax, vocals, everything are so expertly done in this casual offhand way... genius!
Well, here we are at “the Big Bang” of rock ‘n’ roll: so fresh, so breathless, so raucous. And if you can’t hear the future sounds of, say, Lennon and McCartney, then you need to listen again. And what I really love about this album is how the fabulous backing really swings. “Seminal” doesn’t come close.
This is rock and roll. Either Richard or Chuck were the king of rock and roll and Richard roared on to the scene. Is there a greater opener than ‘a wop bop bop a loo bop a wop bam boom?’ Is there a greater song on perversion than slipping and slidin? Is there a greater song on another kind of perversion than longboat sally?* Rip it up.. my god. What a song. Even the b sides cook. 2 million stars. *no kink shaming here. But this was revolutionary in the 1950s
When Little Richard died in the early daze of COVID, Bob Dylan tweeted the following : “I just heard the news about Little Richard and I’m so grieved. He was my shining star and guiding light back when I was only a little boy. His was the original spirit that moved me to do everything I would do. I played some shows with him in Europe in the early nineties and got to hang out in his dressing room a lot. He was always generous, kind and humble. And still dynamite as a performer and a musician and you could still learn plenty from him. In his presence he was always the same Little Richard that I first heard and was awed by growing up and I always was the same little boy. Of course he’ll live forever. But it’s like a part of your life is gone.” In Dylan’s high school yearbook in 1959, then-senior Robert Zimmerman famously wrote that his life ambition was “to join Little Richard.” As the Star Tribune reported, Dylan even attempted to emulate Little Richard’s imitable performing style during his first-ever public performance at a Hibbing High School talent show in 1957. Thankfully the early Little Richard hits were all over Sydney radio in the 50’s. Both Long Tall Sally & Jenny Jenny made the Top 20 on the 2UE Top 40 in 1957. ( Of course The Beatles took Long Tall Sally to #2 on the 2UE Top 40 in 1964 - Paul McCartney no doubt gives thanks for Richard every night before bed. Luckily, Auntie Rose, my godmother, had a Little Richard 78 & two 45’s, which I flogged mercilessly then (& inherited on her death). I love an album that has 12 terrific trax & opens with the line : A Wop bop a loo bop a lop bom bom - which was the title Nik Cohn in 1969 gave to what is generally regarded as the first history of rock’n’ roll. The energy Little Richard brought to his recordings & live performances is outstanding. What a champion.
It makes you dance. It does. Can't be mad when you're listening to this dope shit. Piano and horns - sign me up.
F it, this is a 5, clearly brilliant music. Wish I could go out dancing in the late 50’s to a Little Richard Concert, I bet it would be such a good night… My reservations in giving a straight 5, is that as an album all the tracks are quite similar, with no room to chill out. Does go well as a background for dough kneading (Especially rip it up)
Classic shite. The beating, bleeding heart of rock and roll's birth.
The inventor of Rock’N’Roll. Wooo!
Mg me dio ganas de bailar. Me robé varias.
Very nice! Tutti Frutti is perfect!
Loved it
Another first time listen! Kicks right the heck off into Tutti Frutti and already my mood is better. This is a super quick spin so I needed a few to really take it all in. The deluxe version including the outtakes and different takes are just as good as the original material too. Proof positive that this was the GREATS behind the instruments. You just can’t mess with the ancestors of rock!
THIS ALBUM IS STILL HOT FIRE AND IT HASN'T FLICKERED OUT ONCE SINCE 1957.
Let no one tell you different, this man INVENTED Rock 'n' Roll. This is arguably the most important record ever released. Every track is exploding with raw energy and innovative talent. Richard is like a dynamo, there is nothing that can even slow him down. He discovered James Brown, and inspired The Beatles and Prince. There's a reason nearly every song on this album is one you already know... and if you don't, you SHOULD.
I don't get the criticisms here, it's chock full of hits and it's Little Richard.
Little Richard is who Elvis listened to. Of course Little Richard was fabulously popular during his heyday, but his influence on popular music can be heard everywhere. He shaped his contemporaries, the Beatles, and had a hand in influencing what later became Motown, soul, and funk. His vocal delivery is still as exciting as it was in 1957. He is known as the architect of Rock n Roll for a very good reason.
He did it before the Beatles did
One of the earliest and greatest rock ‘n’ roll albums…. Where would we be without Little Richard. Not only was it influential, but risky and distinctive, a musical landmark.
Yeah, this was awesome.
So good. Little Richard made the world a better place. A complicated person who created amazing art and lived an unbelievable life. His authorized biography is a wild ride.
What a great start to the week! Smoking hot music from the legend himself! A little redundant but it also doesn’t overstay its welcome. A genuine classic.
Amazing, dancy, still holds up
Heard some songs previously like tuti fruiti and long tall sally. Definitely something good for high energy and dancing. not a high energy day and listened to this on my headphones alone….very weird contrast to feel nothing while so much is going on. Fun album!
Отлично! Очень энергичный, живой, с крутым голосом. Очень нравится.
A rare gem where it deserves a 5 both for how influential it is, and for how enjoyable it remains in 2024.
I feel sorry for the people on this website who don't enjoy listening to this. What a sad, dull, gray life y'all must lead.
El auténtico rey del rock and roll
Nice
Great! So much energy. Good vibes.
Truly one of the original pioneers of rock and roll. He doesn’t get enough recognition for his body of work, IMHO.
It's good but without context of its release and what music was like at that time, it's gotten a bit lost to time. Pretty repetitive. I listen to this and wonder why Sam & Dave weren't more popular.
Rock n roll good original beats.
Most people in the US are at least familiar with Little Richard's big hits like "Tutti Frutti" and "Good Golly Miss Molly" which are high-energy dance hall tracks. But I think where Little Richard's voice really shines is in the more subdued songs like "Oh Why?" He really has a great voice that is very reminiscent of the time. The length of the songs makes it really to stay engaged with each son and I'll keep coming back to this album
Bängeri
Oh yes
You know it’s a hit when my son asks me to play it again. Absolute jam, turns out I have a deep love for 50’s rock. Easy 5.
Fantastic old school rock & roll.
This man is largely responsible for all popular music that came after. He was a pioneer of rock n roll, loud, and flamboyant as fuck. Imagine being a black sissy in 1957 singing the devil's music - it could've killed him. Instead, we were gifted with rambunctious rock n roll that still stands today. I loved this album & thank Little Richard for his contributions to music. I'll listen to his music until the day I die.
Great way to start the day. If can listen to this album without at the very least tapping your feet you have no soul and must be a very unhappy person. Start to finish this album was great.
This is perfect proto-rock-and-roll. I loved all of it. Never slows down, never stops. Full energy, 100% of the time.
This album is a little dated, but incredibly original and energetic for the era. It's interesting to see the piano and saxophone used so heavily compared to what came later in rock music with a standard 4/5 piece band. You can feel this record resonating through popular music through the eras if you listen closely. Though it's sound is a little dated and the lyrics are fairly simple, it's an incredible force of an album that deserves it's spot on this list.
This guy was a genius
What an interesting man and unique talent. Influential and toe-tapping, every track!
Damn, what a pocket! I was dancing in my chair, dancing across the living room, so wonderful! Even though it's blues progressions throughout, and often the same key, I was captive! Richard's voice will grab and keep you. Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Better than I ever expected
I mean, how can you not love Little Richard? He's amazing. If you need a pick-me-up, here's your album.
A wonderful collection of quintessential 50s rock from a legend
full stop, you do not have rock n roll without little richard. bands for decades have been trying to emulate this. from front to back, non-stop energy. this isn't a cornerstone, this isn't a foundation, this is the whole damn building.
hell yeah
ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!
True roots rock.
'I'm ready to rock and roll!'
I recently watched the documentary about his life. It gave me a new perspective of him and his music.
Phenomenal King of Rock n Roll
great album
No denying how iconic Little Richard is and this album is a stone cold classic.
all i can think of is kennedy davenport doing little richard for snatch game
classic
Little Richard was a master of early rock n roll. Powerful and loud, fun and smooth. Love it.
Woooooo
Do a lot of these songs sound the same? Yes. Are they all great? Yes. Just makes you want to get up & dance, and Little Richard BRINGS the energy.
Good shit, will listen to again.
Just great music, every song was a banger. 10/10
Exceptional energy and inventiveness
Loved it.
This album from Little Richard was a compilation of his hit singles at the time and the Spotify version has the deluxe edition with multiple alternate takes of the songs in the original album. This was a great old school, rock'n roll album that contains a lot of Little Richard's most famous songs! Pretty good and I recommend it to listeners of the genre. Favorite Song(s): "Tutti Frutti", "Long Tall Sally", "Jenny l, Jenny", "Slippin' And Slidin'"
I love me some screaming soul music so this is right up my alleyway. Loved it front to back and will listen to it again and again. I definitely have been sleeping on this!
Love his voice! Can still feel the electric energy of rock and roll from the OG.
One of the original rock and rollers. 50's rock was never my favorite style, but Little Richard gets 5 stars for his contribution to modern American music.
Incredible this came out in the 50s. Little Richard really went all out for his debut
Great album. You can definitely hear how he influenced generations of artists from the 1960's to today in 2023.
I’ve got a real soft spot for early Rock n Roll, and Little Richard is pretty much the best of the bunch. This is undeniable
SO GOOD Really took me back to the old days as if I’m in a Time Machine. He really had fun with this album and his style was just about having fun
Dude's got chops.
For our modern ears this album might sound repetitive with a lot of the songs in the same key with similar melodies. Then you realize that this album came out 12 years before Woodstock. For what it is it slaps.
One of the realest dudes to walk the earth.
This album knocked me out. Where so many albums from this era sound quaint and subdued, this one rollicked and romped and Little Richard as a vocalist was a firestorm, though his ability to dial up some sweet numbers showed a breadth of talent that solidifies him as one of the all-time greats — not to mention something that must have sounded scandalous in 1955. On top of that, while these early rock and roll numbers are often a bit of a paint by the numbers affair, I was really impressed with Little Richard as a songwriter. His instincts as a writer (he didn't compose everything here but he's all over the writing credits) were also sharper than most, and it's no wonder why he was as influential and enduring as he is. Great stuff.
Introduction to Little Richard: Little Richard, born Richard Wayne Penniman, was a flamboyant and influential figure in the early days of rock and roll. He was known for his powerful, distinctive vocals and his high-energy, wild stage presence. His impact on the genre is immeasurable, and this album is a testament to his talent and influence. Tracklist: "Tutti Frutti" "True, Fine Mama" "Can't Believe You Wanna Leave" "Ready Teddy" "Baby" "Slippin' and Slidin'" "Long Tall Sally" "Miss Ann" "Oh Why?" "Rip It Up" "Jenny, Jenny" "She's Got It" Musical Style: "Here's Little Richard" is a high-octane rollercoaster of rock and roll, rhythm, and blues. Little Richard's distinctive piano playing and his raucous, soulful voice are at the forefront. The album's style is characterized by pounding piano rhythms, infectious handclaps, and Little Richard's wailing, electrifying vocals. His energetic, unapologetic delivery defines the very essence of early rock and roll. Standout Tracks: "Tutti Frutti": This song is a rock and roll anthem and an absolute classic. The lyrics may have been toned down for the album, but the excitement and energy in Little Richard's performance are unmatched. "Long Tall Sally": Another iconic track, this song is a showcase of Little Richard's vocal prowess and energetic piano playing. "Good Golly, Miss Molly": While not on the original release, later reissues included this hit single. It's a perfect representation of Little Richard's explosive style. Impact and Influence: "Here's Little Richard" had a profound influence on the rock and roll genre and later rock musicians. His exuberant, uninhibited performances inspired countless artists, including the likes of Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix. The album's energy and groundbreaking sound were instrumental in the evolution of rock music. Legacy: Little Richard's legacy endures through this album and his contributions to music. His fearless and flamboyant stage presence challenged societal norms of the time and paved the way for future generations of musicians. Conclusion: "Here's Little Richard" is a seminal album in the history of rock and roll. Little Richard's passionate, frenetic performances and the infectious, high-energy tracks on this album continue to captivate and inspire music enthusiasts. It's a testament to the power of raw, unapologetic, and innovative rock and roll, and it remains a cornerstone of the genre to this day. This album is a must-listen for anyone interested in the roots of rock music and the evolution of American popular culture.
Timeless. Very important in the development of rock n roll. And very iconic.
Pretty great!
Elvis really did rob this lads music
Incredible
Fun album of real classic rock n' roll. Good to hear an album that is part of the roots of the rock to come.
Fantastic. Rasting 5.
THIS is rock and roll. In my book, Little Richard is the King.
So fun dancing to all of this with the schnooka. Bit repetitive. Fun pauses and blasts.
😍
Me encantó, es el rock del 50 que te imaginas, el ritmo y el instrumental junto con una voz increíble te dan hasta ganas de bailar
That’s the shit!!!
Like a lot of albums I've been listening to on this list, this one also seems a bit "second verse, same as the first" - the same kind of beat with just different (but similar sounding) lyrics. But to the extent that this sound was more or less unheard of before his time, and that it established the foundation for what would become "rock and roll", this is a classic that everyone should listen to at least twice. Once to get the feel of it, and once more out of respect for its place in music history.
Classic, one of the foundation stones for pretty much everything that followed. Clear influence on the Beatles and, through them as well as on its own merit, on everyone else. One of the rare records which is great and interesting and influential and fun (an underrated but important aspect!)
this boy can SING. WHHHAAAAQAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOWWWWW
Amazing album. The songs sound similar, and that’s quite all right.
One of the most electrifying performers of all time, and it all comes through here even half a century later!
This is what I think a perfect Rock and Roll Album sounds like.
Nonstop bops.
Very fun! Super danceable and just full of hits.
Wwoooooooo!
These recordings sound great and the performances capture what must have been absolutely mental energy of Richard and his band.
Could this be the best 50s album? This rocks so much!
This record was so heavy for the time. Imagine putting on that record in 1957. His way of singing was innovative, so energetic and passionate. The band was also very powerful. Amongst the best rock n roll/RNB records of all time.
fun upbeat, started the whole rock and roll thing. very wild but songs are simple
CD (boxset)
tu tututuraaa auruu
The root of so much great music!
WHOAAA what a torturous nistake it was listening to this on the bus. I could feel my heart beat rising qith thrill and excitement. I wanted to get up and dance so bad. this album was incredible! What intense vocals. So raw, so energising. Thrilling and boisterous. Little Richard explains so much to me about bridging the gap between 12 bar blues rock n' roll and rock. RIP
Just classic rock & roll. Brilliant.
While hugely influential 65 years ago, it's still simply good music and fun to listen to today! I enjoyed this one a lot.
Do never forget the roots
This is a hard album to rate. It's the foundation of rock and roll and a whole generation of artists were inspired by Little Richard and his antics. It's woven into the fabric of rock and roll. For that reason it's super important, but saying that it doesn't have a huge amount of variety. It's pretty simple 12 bar blues repeated a lot. Nonetheless it's so important and Tutti Frutti is such a fucking banger it's hard to rate this below a 5.
I was just listening to this earlier today. That’s some cosmic karmanic alignment.
Couldnt stop moving listening to this, what a great collection of songs. The *real* King of Rock n Roll!
Rock and roll showmanship at its finest
A lot of people have tried to imitate him. Nobody's been successful. Best track: Long Tall Sally (The Thing)
Loved this one- so much energy. His voice is so great. Slippin and Sliddin is probably my favorite.
So good. It must’ve been so fun to be in this band, their groove is amazing and he is such a great singer and performer. Every song is a blast
What a time to be alive. Everything is perfect.
I'm giving it a 5 just out of sheer importance. If I'm being honest I enjoyed it on the 3.5 to 4 star level. Much love to Little Richard, I just don't truly love this album.
What's there to say? It's a really good album.
I love energy and of this album. Little Richard's vocal is great and I wouldn't change it for any other. It is one of my favourites albums.
The blueprint. Love all the demos and alt takes included.
Wow, that is pure rock.
Absolutely groundbreaking. Changed American and world music by doing the things few had done before, but having the courage, flamboyance and showmanship to risk the opprobrium of racists.
I absolutely love Little Richard. Since before I was old enough to stand up and support my own weight. An icon. There's no rock and roll, no Prince, no modern blues era without Little Richard, and luckily the album itself is as impactful and enjoyable in 2023 as the legacy of the man. The man has made songs as infantile as the Itsy Bitsy Spider into absolute toe tappers, and these are arguably his biggest hits. His "manic" energy is infectious and calculated. And unlike a lot of the albums I've heard so far, it sounded great even out of my shitty laptop speakers before I was able to connect it to my actual ones. A masterclass in doing your own thing in a way NO one else can. This made my Monday better. Album absolutely deserves to be on the list.
Outstanding early rock and roll by one of the pioneers!
They don’t call Little Richard the architect of rock and roll for nothing. Just a fantastic performance on this album and one I wish I could have seen live in his prime. His voice is so powerful and the energy is high throughout. Is it truly an exceptional album? Not in 2023, but when this first came out I bet it rocked people's world. 4.5 if I could.
We love this genre
Great rock 'n' roll album!
Old R&R. Vinilo.
Haven't listened to a full Little Richard album before, but I'm really digging this. So much energy, and the piano playing is off the charts. 5/5.
An artist that I’ve never dived into before, and that’s my bad. This is an awesome album.
The greatest Rock & Roll album. Message ends
This is more my speed. I did take a course on the history of rock music and this kind of classic, foundational music was something I was really into. There's so much energy here. I can imagine being a kid in 1957 and this would have been like getting shocked if you stuck a fork in the electric socket. Your hair standing on end, your spine-tingling, and your feet jittering. This is just amazing because I can't even imagine rocking on a piano like this now. Besides Billy Joel and Elton John, do we even see pianos anymore in rock setups? I'll totally come back to this. I forgot how great this album was. 5/5
These songs are all older than dirt now, but they still slap. I feel ill equipped trying to describe the songs and music that are the very bedrock of rock n roll. Little Richard brought raucous, bawdy, and unbridled enthusiasm to all of his performances in a way no one else ever had. An artist of tremendous spirit and a true freak flag flying motherfucker, he paved the way for everything, absolutely everything, that we all listen to and love today. I salute a maverick, a legend, an icon, and a phenomenally talented artist with my paltry five star rating.
This collection of Little Richard‘s songs greatly influenced the British invasion in the 1960s. It’s interesting that when the Beatles covered songs in the early days, they really didn’t change much. Long Tall Sally is an excellent example of that as Paul even slurs the same words that Little Richard did. The Beatles are just one of the long list of Rock and Roll’s finest that were influence by Little Richard. He also broke music’s colour barrier as both black and white folks attended his concerts in the early 1960s.
I decided to listen to a dozen or so cover versions of Long Tall Sally. I think my favorite was The Beatles - Paul really ratcheted up his voice to another level. Wanda Jackson did a great version as well, though Wanda Jackson is hard to listen to for more than a couple of songs. I like the Elvis version too. It must be something to write and record a song, have a minor hit and then have the greatest rock and roll artists of all time make the song a standard part of their repertoire. Little Richard has a relentless energy. I love his screams, hollers and whoops. Performers started singing differently after that. His piano pounding is crazy too. And by only hearing the music, we're missing out on his live show, possibly the best part. After listening to this I get a clearer picture of what a game changer this music would have been in 1957.
Ace.
Weer jaren 60 rock en roll. Beste tot nu toe vind ik en waardeer het genre erg vandaar 5 sterren
I mean, DAMN! 5 stars.
Just so groovy and fun
Today I learned that Elvis Presley covered four of LR's songs on his two debut albums in 1956. LR is absolutely underrated for his style, contributions, influence, and song writing. He defined rock n' roll in the 50s and after.
Fantastic. Love this stuff!
Rating: 9/10 Best songs: Tutti frutti, Ready teady, Slippin and slidin, She’s got it
Magnificent. It all starts about here
"Here's Little Richard" is the debut album by Little Richard (Richard Wayne Penniman). The album was promoted as six of Little Richard's hits and six brand new songs of caliber and was really a compilation of A-Sides and B-Sides of his hit singles. It was produced by Robert "Bumps" Blackwell in New Orleans (Little Richards' hometown) and Los Angeles. This was the first 12" LP for his label Speciality Records. Wop-bop-a-loo-bop-a-lop-bom-bom and so begins his legendary song "Tutti Frutti." Now there's the most famous and influential nonsensical lyrics of all time. The original lyrics were much more risqué and had to be tamed down for the 1950's. The energy. Also, the distinctive 8-note pattern was an innovation leading to the creation of the rock and roll genre. "Reddy Teddy" was a huge R&B hit. The horns. The pace. The vocal delivery. Great energy and lyrics...He's ready Teddy to rock and roll. A great piano, beat and horn start to "Slippin' and Slidin'." The sax solo! The second side begins with his second legendary single in "Long Tall Sally." Again, the energy and vocal delivery. He's out having some fun tonight. Great screamin' and fun lyrics. Little Richard rocks and rips it up in "Rip It Up." The rockin' piano and sax begins "Jenny, Jenny." Little Richard has to be the best ever at nonsensical and rhyming lyrics. This album was a blast. What can you say. His energy. His screaming. His piano playing. A lot of fun. If anyone is interested in the beginnings of rock and roll, this is a good place to start.
This little guy has a big sound! You can basically hear him sweating on these tracks he's cooking so hot
I don’t think there’s ever been a better album opener than “Tutti Frutti”
Much like AC/DC yesterday, there's a lot to be said for doing one thing really well! I'd probably have given it 4, but for the story that Tutti Frutti was originally deeply rude, and that always makes me smile.
Just awesome. Really fun to listen to. Favorite track: Reddy Teddy
P fun
Truly a classic. Just doesn’t get old.
This isn’t where it all started, but rather, this is where it all exploded and got out of control.
the OG rockstar, classic album. every song slaps, Long Tall Sally is my favorite.
Its legendary in its own unique way
This is like the definition of rock n' roll. 5/5
When does he breathe?
Great first album for me. Thoroughly enjoyed!
p36. 1957. 5 stars The raw DNA of rock'n'roll and that would follow. Little Richard crams in more excitement and energy in the opening track than some artists manage in an entire career. There isn't a weak track on this.
Little Richard? More like BIG DICK! This album was great.
If you don't like this. You have no soul..65 years later..still moves
Removed Tutti Frutti. Rest of album saved for good. How brilliant is this?
Big Dick Energy
Awesome album. He's got a very soulful voice.
Brilliant. This is exactly the type of album that should be in the book. Pioneering and fantastic album.

This album is so fun. Just makes me wanna dance. Definitely going to look for this at my record store.
Like the Louis Prima record, this is another one that's just pure entertainment from head to toe. Also, I love the way he sings the line "Well long, tall Sally She's built for speed, she got" I'm talking about the cadence of that, it's just incredible. That kickass voice. This is five stars for me.
A legendary performance.
Stunningly good. Little Richard at his finest. So good I listened to it three times over!
From beginning to end, this is a delight.
Classic
A wop bop a loo bop a lop bam boom

Um dos caras da vanguarda da época, impossível não gostar.
This is an album that deserves 5 stars for its simple existence.
Àlbum fundacional del rock and roll, ple de temazos immortals como "Tutti Frutti" o "Long Tall Sally". Un clàssic.
Really fun. I love his voice.
Tres solide. J’adore toutes les chansons sont bonnes et ca secoute comme un charme. 5

Soulful slaps
amazing album from the man who innovated and created rock and roll
Legendariskt
Absolutely fantastic
This is obviously a massively influential and successful record. The singles in particular were massive hits both as Little Richard's originals and as covers by other artists. They really are ubiquitous. To be honest, that makes those tracks a little less interesting to me. I've just heard them so many times. I find myself gravitating towards the slower tracks that aren't played as much, but I don't think that is comment on their superiority, but just that they are a little more novel for me. The hit songs deserve to be hits. They're great songs. Little Richard's voice is fantastic and I really enjoy the jump blues roots of much of this music.
Fun, high energy, innovative bops, big time blues. Better in small doses
Great rock and roll. Lots of hits
ok
Hello little Richard!
I Like When You Leave Also really enjoy Ready Teddy Baby is also good. I like how upveat each song is. Its cool that this is the basis of rock and roll. Slippin and slidin, i really like the brass, i think its a saxophone I really like Rip It Up Jenny jenny is fun I really enjoyed this album
Great voice, emotion living right in front of the vocal performances. Just an instantly compelling artist. He's having so much fun and wow he's a great singer. It's still "oldies" so it's not going on my regular rotation, but it's a fun listen for sure.
Really a great listen, fun thought.
Me re gusto me hace acordar mucho a Elvis. Definitivamente buscare un LP usado
He's a one trick pony, but it's a good trick. The remaster brings out the kick drum a little - it was almost completely absent in the original recordings, but they've done well with exposing some bottom end detail. He's not as prodigous on all tracks - Tutti Frutti being his most epeic performance. In fact, his piano often plays second fiddle to the sax section, which often answers his vocal lenes and comes in with some really raunchy solos.
favs: tutti frutti, ready teddy, she's got it

Favorite song: Tutti Frutti
I heard Little Richard for the first time but the style of his music has influenced alot of other great songs that came decades after this album. Loved the energy and joy and soul in this album.
This was a fun listen but not something I'd gravitate toward on my own. You can definitely hear the influence of Little Richard on so many huge artists who came later and were inspired by him (as someone mentioned in a youtube comment I saw, you can hear exactly where and how Paul McCartney was influenced).
Rock and Roll in its infancy. Yeah!
Fun and energetic Likes: Tutti Frutti; True Fine Mama; Ready Teddy; Long Tall Sally
Brave Little Toaster vibes
Lot of fun, it gets you movin'
I have to rate this high just for historical significance alone. And "Tutti Frutti" is an all time great. The rest of the album is basically a variation on that song but who cares, it's Little Richard. He was a trailblazer in many ways and he could hit that falsetto high note like no one else could.
How do you 'rate' something like this, or Chuck Berry, or Elvis, on a five star scale, really? It's the blueprint. It's one of the most important recordings in rock history, the trunk of the genre's family tree. It's also utterly simple, repetitive, and fairly primitive compared to all the stuff that it inspired and that came after it. It is a step above Elvis's debut for me. A 5 in terms of significance, a 4 to my ears that have heard all the glorious music that built on it
9/10 loved this so upbeat and dancey
j'aime beaucoup son style c'est tellement similaire à la musique d'elvis presley... mais en mieux évidemment la voix est folle, c'est entraînant, dansant vive le rock et roll (sic)
Saved
Unfortunately wasnt in the mood, but I mean still groovy af
Rating: 4/5 Playlist track: Oh Why? Date listened: 14/06/26 Listen when: Cooking Dinner I love the feeling of this album, which reminded me of so many other artists. So interesting to read this was the blueprint for them!
Rate: 8.5/10.
divertido
Not my favourite artist of this era but he’s a legend
Just fun!
Gets you going…
Solid high energy album Standout songs: Ready Teddy Long Tall Sally Rip it up
Bringing the energy/showmanship/soul to Rock & Roll. Great songs individually, the similar song structures get a little repetitive by the end but his energy makes up for a lot of that.
I liked it very inspiring in the music scene. I like how all the names were very literal to the song.
a classic for a reason. night perfect, were it not for a little same-y feeling at points. a great record
