Reviews (page 9 of 13)

12 songs in 28 minutes? That’s unheard of. Still, it provides beautifully crafted acoustic tunes. Hauntingly beautiful melodies and gorgeous vocals.

Needs a little more bite, too calm

I didn't like the whole album, just a few songs.

No private session used for Spotify. I like Paul Simon's work, but never got into Simon and Garfunkel as it's a little too mellow and wimpy for me. I give it three as I don't want to lump it with some of the crap I have given twos. I like the Dylan send-up, almost as good as Weird Al's "Bob".

Folkish, vrolijk maar niet per se mijn ding. Klinkt grotendeels hetzelfde.

Not bad. It's a few good hits. I listened to this on on 3/26.

fav song: cloudy soft, lyrical, gentle 50/100

Started on a super high, super pretty note with Scarborough Fair. Unfortunately the rest of the album was a bit too fats and not as enthralling. The Silent Night / News mashup was interesting.

Not my favourite album, sounded like medieval music

Everything you'd expect from a Simon & Garfunkel album.

Some hidden gems on this album

The 'popular' songs are good some of the deep cuts had the flowery over-prose that ruins music like Father John Misty's. Dylan-y, and not in a good way. The instrumentation is interesting and complex and I'd love to go back to this pure-analog era.

Great album! I didn't enjoy the stereo mix as I listened on headphones. The song '7 O'clock News / Silent Night' was particularly touching and a reminder that artists should also speak about social matters

A decent, melodic album, as always, lovely harmonies. Nothing outstanding, but nothing negative to say about the album.

Short and sweet. It's lovely folk rock with some of-the-times references. But it was short enough to be tolerable, any longer and I would have rated it lower to be honest.

Some beautiful songs on the Album, some mediocre ones. I wanted to give 4 points, but I give 3, because of the poor imitation of the even poorer Bob Dylan. Fav: Scarborough Fair/Canticle

Most of this is pretentious navel-gazing troubadour nonsense. But there are gems like A Simple Desultory Philippic.

Muy lindo!

Listening session: march 20th, while commuting home from internship Listened to before: no Thoughts: classic Simon & Garfunkel album with lots of nice melodies and harmonies but it’s not something that really stands out to me Favourite tracks: Scarborough Fair / Canticle, Homeward Bound & The Dangling Conversation

It was alright. The last track was the most interesting to me, but honestly, I couldn't see myself reaching for the record again.

I have nothing against Simon and Garfunkel, but they've never been a favorite group of mine. It's impossible not to have heard a lot of their music and I do always kind of appreciate it. Paul Simon is clearly a great songwriter and the vox speak for themselves. Still, as folk music goes they're a little bland for my taste in general. All that said, I've never given this album a proper listen before and I liked it better than I expected. It's probably not something I'll just put on for myself, but it was fine. If it was longer than 28 minutes I'd probably DNF, but mercifully they kept it short and sweet.

Каждая песня звучит одинаково.

Scarborough Fair / Canticle - 4/5 Patterns - 3.5/5 Cloudy - 3/5 Homeward Bound - 4/5 The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine - 3/5 The 59th Street Bridge Song - 3/5 The Danging Conversation - 3.5/5 Flowers Never Bend With the Rainfall - 3.5/5 A Simple Desultory Philippic - 3/5 For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her - 4/5 A Poem on the Underground Wall - 3.5/5 7 O'Clock News / Silent Night - 3.5/5 A bunch of classics that I unfortunately just can't really get behind enough. Like it's good music but I'm learning that folk isn't really my forte. They have some good stuff on here and thankfully it was less than a half an hour but I really struggle to give this anything more than a 3.5. Overall: 3/5 Favorites: Scarborough Fair, Homeward Bound, For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her

Simon & Garfunkel always feels like a warm hug to me. i had never actually listened to this album fully before, turns out it was just what i needed today. not my absolute favorite of theirs but a very nice listen, and i still liked it a lot. favorite track: Scarborough Fair / Canticle. it's so magical

At times, I find it too folky for my own taste, although I can understand its overall appeal.

3 bangers of course: titular song, homeward, and feeling groovy. Paul is carrying the load.

What I appreicate about S&G is there short, to the point albums. They are cute, fun, and a nice album overall

I understand how this can be quite charming to someone, but to me it's highly somniferous

I appreciate the different elements that comprise this album. The sense of melody and atmosphere. It sort of combines Bob Dylan’s folk sensibility, Leonard Cohen’s cosmopolitanism, and Paul Simon’s sampling of world sounds. But I listened to it twice and wasn’t especially compelled by the experience of listening to it.

i get this very quiet style is their style, buut i do not prefer it

That's gonna be one well seasoned soup!

This is a refreshing change from the last 3 albums I listened to. This isn’t exactly my vibe, but I enjoyed this album. Will I be revisiting? No, but still enjoyable. Very calm and has that indie and folk vibe. I like that.

not rly my taste but still good

If I’ve learned anything from this project, it’s that true random just straight up doesn’t seem to exist. I just rolled Self Titled by Paul Simon less than a week ago, and mentioned how I was eager to compare the remaining Simon & Garfunkel albums to the solo career of Paul Simon. So far, I have rolled Bridge Over Troubled Water, Paul Simon, and now this. Of the 3, I think this is actually my favorite so far. I enjoyed multiple songs to the extent that picking a favorite was difficult, which is always a sign of a good album. My favorites on this one are “The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine”, “Homeward Bound”, and the ultimate winner in my opinion, “A Simple Desultory Philippic”. Simon & Garfunkel, whether solo or together, are so goofy that it actually surprises me how much depth this album, which came out in 1966 has. It’s self deprecating in places, is full of social and political commentary, and does it all under the guise of a deceptively complex Folk album. It’s still not something I’d always want to listen to, but the charm and comedic aspects I think make a lot of the songs very memorable. Plus, there’s a fine mix of styles on this album, yet another plus. This is the closest I’ve come to giving a 4 to a Simon & Garfunkel album, but there are still plenty of skippable songs here, and with a playtime of 28 minutes, even a single skip is enough of an annoyance to dock a star. Still, I would probably give this one a 3.85 out of 5. I’ve determined it to be the best of the 3 so far, but I’ve still got 3 to go, so we’ll find out if any of them can break into 4 or even 5 star territory. To take it back to the top, if I’ve learned anything from this project, it’s that I’ve got a high likelihood of rolling another one soon. Am I a soothsayer?? God no, don’t be ridiculous. But I would find it very funny if it ends up happening. Here I am going off track again. I enjoyed this album a lot. This has been my review.

Tough crowd here! As far as the "hits" go I'm onboard with all of them. A Simple Desultory Philippic is (I'm hoping) the worst song Paul Simon has ever written. 4 stars for side 1, 2 stars for side 2.

This was good! Obviously folk music which is a genre I don’t normally like but I liked every song and didn’t feel an urge to skip any. Very pretentious but it didn’t bother me at all. I had never heard ‘A Simple Desultory Philippic’ but I liked that one a lot. This was really needed after weeks of boring-to-horrible shit in this whole experience.

Listened to this during a walk and never once didn’t like what I was hearing, slightly un memorable but still very good

Nothing, NOTHING fucks harder than Simon & Garfunkel. They are unequivocally the best folk duo to sing about a numbered bridge AND a renaissance festival. Truly, the Skrillex of 1966. Top tracks: "Homeward Bound," "Scarborough Fair/Canticle," "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)"

--Scarborough Fair/Canticle...haunting. classic --Patterns...there's a sea shanty quality to this --Cloudy...a little cheesy --Homeward Bound...a nice jaunt --The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine...is this a sex thing? --The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)...suddenly I hate the word "groovy" --The Dangling Conversation...pretty but the orchestra does most of the heavy lifting --Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall...a fun country feel --A Simple Desultory Philippic (or How I Was Robert McNamara'd into Submission)...something different. a little distortion. perhaps a little anger? --For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her...more pretty songs --A Poem on the Underground Wall...see above --7 O'Clock News/Silent Night...getting in the holiday spirit! kind of

Pleasant ballads with a touch of magic, but something was missing. The album seemed very monotonous.

Made me feel like a gnome tending to my garden. Cool album.

Great album! They were so great together.

Interesting album, still enjoyable, Joe client. 6.7.10

I felt really snobish while listening to it. I love them. It makes me want to write a story about some family drama: problems with father, mother etc (probably with skarsgard)

I think we've heard enough from Misters Garfunkel and Simon. And we haven't even been presented with Paul's best album. "Still Crazy After All These Years."

not bad

No mi tipo de género, pero fue agradable, me sorprendí un poco por sus ténicas de grabación

Such a delightful album (besides "Silent Night") but breaking new ground.

Very relaxed. I like it, a calming vibe, type of thing to listen to while coding in Computer Science i think. It's nothing special though in my opinion, hardly a revolutionary album, it's simple, it's enjoyable, but it's kinda mid. On further listening, songs; 1, 4, 5, and 11, do bring the album quite a ways. Perhaps another listen, paying more attention, is due?

A pleasent album. Better than I imagined

In the words of the young Frank Skinner, this is 'saft as a bottle of pop'

I'd put that in a soup

Alright this album started out pretty good. But then they made fun of my harmonica-goat Bob Dylan and that is not okay man

This was heading towards a pure 5-star review but then Feelin' Groovy came on and I cannot tell you how much I hate that song. And after Feelin' Groovy, I was just seething in my hatred. And what the hell was Silent Night doing there? So, it's a three star from me.

I think I've already covered my ambivalence about Simon & Garfunkel in this project, so I won't rehash it. Nothing about this one changed my mind.

Jah idk. Waarschijnlijk waren ze vroeger zeer baanbrekend en nieuw, maar aangezien de folk- & protesttraditie zich verder heeft geëvolueerd, springen ze er niet meer zo uit. Gezellig album zonder meer.

Not that I could knock this legendary duo, I like them both better and they are each even more remarkable... solo. This is nice, including a cheeky Bob Dylan parody. That's all, this is nice.

A pleasant bowl of pleasantness.

Coffee shop would help me study

Sleepy. Don't care for Scarborough Fair. Homeward bound is good.

++: Cloudy, Homeward Bound, The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy), Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall, A Simple Desultory Philippic (or How I Was Robert McNamara'd into Submission), For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her, 7 O'Clock News/Silent Night +: Patterns, The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine, The Dangling Conversation, A Poem on the Underground Wall +-: Scarborough Fair/Canticle 7,3/10

Мне также не зашло, просто обычные спокойные песни. Чуть получше чем до этого, но без изюминки

I didn't think I realized how short their songs were. They've a nice harmony, but I think I'm happier with a best of. The songs I didn't already know were ok, but didn't hit me in any stand out way

Sounds nice like most Simon & Garfunkel stuff, short and sharp too which I like.

(74/100)

1. Scarborough Fair/Canticle ✔️

I enjoyed the folk rock songs on this album much more than the more pastoral cuts. Obviously, the harmonies are amazing.

Loved Scarborough fair, everything else was take or leave

Okay, so I’m really sorry for the rating of this album. It’s chill, short and concise but I found it a little boring. Like it didn’t give me any specific feeling I don’t know

With exception of one song, this is a pretty slow album. There’s some pretty harmonies. I’ve never heard the last song on the album, which was pretty powerful.

One of those records that just fills your room with nice music and you can let it ease over you.

Love Simon & Garfunkel but this didn't click with me. Homeward Bound was my song of the album (and best first listen) with For My Emily, Wherever I May Find Her being my honourable mention. Nothing really stood out to me, all very well written songs, but I'm looking for more than clever lyrics

C'est pas si mauvais

There are some great moments but the album as a whole didn't pack a punch for me. The great moments in question: The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine, A Simple Desultory Philippic, 59th Street Bridge Song, and For Emily Whenever I May Find Her. This one could use a re-listen at some point. Overall a bit vanilla, though vanilla is still a great flavor.

A little twee but mostly enjoyable. I can't stand Scarborough Fayre though

Much prefer longer songs these days, so an album new to me where only one song hits 3 mins (and that a combo song!) was going to be a tough sell - and so it proved, although the Dylan pastiche probably earned this another star.

It’s nice enough, but a bit twee. Amazingly short too, ended up listening to the entire Bookends album on a drive without realising it

Some beautiful harmonies and compositions. Let down by the second half, for me.

Remember Scarborough fair from school, something to stick on in the background I guess

Rating: 3 Familiar. Glad to listen again. Enjoyed. Probably won’t listen again for another 20 years.

Surprised by the quality of production. Vocals and drums are delightful. Enjoyed listening but couldn’t get into it a second time.

Standouts Scarborough Fair Homeward Bound The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine

A mix of absolute douchery and masterful song writing.

Really nice listen.

Some classic modern folk songs.

Much better than I had anticipated.

I don’t mind a bit of S&G’s gentle folksy twitterings, and I find their combined efforts infinitely more engaging than their solo offerings. However, I don’t know what makes this substantively different from the two others in this book. It’s fine.

peacefull

This is definitely not my favorite SG album, there are some songs that I don’t necessarily care for. However, I’m torn, bc it DOES have PSR&T, Homeward Bound, and one of my top SG songs of all time, which is For Emily…. (I prefer the live album version though). I listened to this 3 times today and yeah, it just didn’t grab me. 3 stars.

Memories mixed with these tunes make it a go to soother for me - in today’s terms this duo feels odd and I don’t know if they would make it. But I still like it!

Very somber and chill folk. I throughly enjoyed this. I don’t see myself coming back to listen to it very often, but it makes me want to check out even more of their discography. FAV TRACKS - Homeward Bound - Scaraborough Fair -Cloudy

Maybe just wasn’t in the vibe for new music today but it just didn’t hit

To soft for me. But they do a good job.

Besides "Scarborough Fair/Canticle", "Patterns" and "The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine" for me a quite blend and disappointing effort by such a prominent duo. 2,5

Wow I was shocked how much I enjoyed this album. A tinge of psychedelic. A tinge of folk. A tinge of pre-Beatles pop. This was a very fun listen.

Good album. Standouts being Scarborough Fair, Homeward Bound 59th Bridge St. Song and For Emily. Other tracks such as The Big Bright Green Machine and Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall are worth a listen too. 7 O’Clock News/Silent Night isn’t.

Great harmonies, generally uplifting music, a few well known tracks that are great. One or two tracks are a bit bland. Overall I secretly liked the album. Gentle and non offensive.

Good songwriting chops and folk songs (a bob dylan parody also) but sadly not my cup of tea with some better genre albums on those years. 3/5

My rating 3.5

Great artists, but too slow for me

7/10 pretty good to listen to while studying

6.5/10

I already knew about Simon & Garfunkel but this was one of their light albums. I probably liked around 2 songs :)

I have to be in the mood for this album I kind of like the drums in the background I feel at ease. Wouldn't listen but tolerable

Better than expected. Good guitar parts. Best songs are ScarboroughFair/Canticle & Patterns

i liked the 2nd half better but it was very folky and I liked the upbeat songs more!! 7/10

This one was okay to me, but didn’t stand out in any particularly way. If it was any longer, I would have probably got annoyed with listening to it drag.

Enjoyed it

Might need to be in the mood for it. I appreciate it but it didn’t feel memorable.

Not my favorite Simon and Garfunkel album, but I can see how this was hugely influential for folk music after it came out.

First time listening to this kind of genre

It was fine, nothing extraordinary, but didn't dislike it. Nothing stood out to me.

Scarborough Fair - Peacful, more merciful as it really isn't focusing on only the vocals, harmonic singing works well with the strings Patterns - Holy intro, alternative percussion works really well the singing is amazing, which I think will become a pattern for these songs, I can't think too highly though, 1/2 of them is called bloody Garfunkel Cloudy - fine, exquisite use of ragamuffin, It truly is falling out of use in the modern era Homeward Bound - Not sure why this one is so popular, it just sounds plain fine The Big Bright Green func - Just not it, only stinker in this album so far and then again the smell isn't Toooo bad Thew 59th - Nice and peacful I sure was feeling groovy The Dangling Conversation - Acceptable Flowers never Bend with the Rainfall - Quite fond of this, possibly my favourite so far A Simple Desultory Philippic - Nevermind this is my favourite so far, it sounds very much unlike the rest of the album dunno kinda viagra boys y'know For Emily, Whenever I May FInd Her - can't say I have any interest in finding Emily A Poem on the Underground Wall - probably should specify the wal next time but its fine Silent night - Good rendition of this angelic angel shimbaloo

reminds me of texan/western cowboys living in nature. like a wooden cabin in the middle of nowhere with a horse and a banjo and a harmonica. its quite out of my normal music taste but i like it. its cool.

* a poem on the underground wall (hm for emily, whenever i may find her) * i liked the slower tracks in the album wayyy more than the more upbeat ones, a couple skips but overall solid album. i love me some folk!!

not exactly what i listen to everyday but it was nice to nap to

Pretty good, if a bit sweet for my tastes. I can't argue with Homeward Bound and For Emily is lovely (I don't mind some sweetness). The dig at Bob Dylan seemed slightly incongruous

A perfect snapshot of the 60s through a hazy folk lens. Poetry dripped lyrics prop up the counter culture of the time - the hippie movement and anti war themes weighing down minds briefly lifted by experimental drug use. The album moves from a place of otherworldly wonder and serenity to the cold harshness of the world we know all too well. 8/10

The album was very nice it had a folk sound throughout the whole album which was very perfect for the Christmas season

Groovy

Folksy 60s sound. Every new listen was more impactful from the last. It's really easy run through of the album since it's fairly short but there's some good songs in there the last song made me feel very sad. I didn't know who they were but then after some research I found they made 2 other famous songs. I think i will revisit this album for sure. 6.9/10

Easy to listen to, nice for background. not something i'm going to reach for

there is no denying that Simon & Garfunkel make some absolutely beautiful music. but, as a whole album, this really just left me wanting more. its such a short album, and every song i feel could have used another minute of it. i wish there was more to it honestly, and kind of disappointed with the album length.

First strack is dreamy and calm kinda like it might have to re listen Nice to listen to in the background, pretty voices and sounds Patterns must be my fave I think

Nice melodies

Perfektes Album für ein Spaziergang im Wald oder ein roadtrip

mythical 5,5/10

I hadn’t heard this album before. Only previously familiar with Bridge and compilations. Brilliant for what it is. Superb songwriting - stripped down and never overproduced. High 3.

Bridge Over Troubled Water is way better, but there are still some pretty catchy tunes on this one

Rating: 6/10 Good and consistent even though that consistency doesn’t ever reach great heights to me after the first track. And then they tried to tack on the news broadcasts juxtaposed with the Silent Night rendition at the end, I wish they did more with that idea

Listen to that tambourine work good lord. Fun folksy jammers that are maybe a little too similar to each other 6/10

Nothing special, but nothing bad. 6 The Graduate out of 10 Lizard Wizards

7 oclock news/silent night mix is cool. I like that style of song. reminds me of J Cole. They used to make albums so short back then. love the album title

Masters of the mundane. Mostly S&G doing S&G things and making music out of every day happenstance. It’s quite a mixed bag of well known hits, some pretty banal songs (A Simple Desultory Phillipic maybe had some greater meaning but not evident in 2025) but a surprisingly poignant end with Silent Night. Did toy with a 4 as I admire their craft but it’s not my favourite S&G album and I really doubt I’d seek it out having listened twice for the review.

Well that was nice. Very wholesome music where I feel like I am being extremely good. Straight or not or even if aged or not I dont think it matters. The reason it is interesting is the craft they have especially with the vocal harmony and great layered sounds. At times its almost like a capella band. They also have the novelty of adding in unusual instruments which I like and acoustic sounds are also strong. A number of songs on this album which are a solid 4 but as an average I think there are some slightly average songs on here compared to the ones I love. However dont hate anything and enjoyed blasting through the album a couple of times.

My first impression was that this sounds fantastic for something that is nearly sixty years old. It's very pretty music that is complex and impressively constructed. It is a perfect example of a soundtrack to an era and S&G have seeped into cultural memory in a way that few artists will ever achieve. The thing is, other than enjoying the odd song as an academic exercise, I can't see myself ever listening to a whole album. It's just too sickly sweet and not my bag. On the plus side it has made me think I need to pick up my guitar and learn a song or two.

Scarborough Fair was a 10/5 but the rest was okay at best

Glad I listened to it. Like Shakespeare and Citizen Kain, good context for where we are today and how we got there. But probably won't ever listen to it again.

Fun and groovy

Actually really enjoyed this, loved the instruments and harmonising

Ihan kelpo levy.

Eli keskari pystyyn. Joulupukilta kuitenkin semmottiis toive, että pistetään vaikka sata älbyymiä ennen seuraavaa johon nää tai toinen näistä on sotkeutunut.

"Scarborough Fair / Canticle" makes me want to die an honorable death trying to save the princess. Paul Simon and Gart Funkelbunklekadunkle or was it Fart Garkunkle or Bart Gartuncles or Bart Lartbrukel or maybe klart startwartmartfunker. None of that was funny and I know it, but the man deserves a medal for surviving childhood with that name. Jokes aside these two are legends. The harmonization they hit on "Scarborough Fair / Canticle" is straight up magic. They had stretches where they were way ahead of their time while still sounding very sixties. The album isn’t perfect though. Some tracks are dated and some are just boring. "The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine" feels like a cookie cutter sixties track that never wakes up. Solid 8 out of 10.

Some good songs on this album but also some not so good songs, often is the case with Simon & Garfunkel.

some really enjoyable calm tracks but a few with too whispery of a voice. Some fun folksy tracks as well.

I really fancy some lamb.....

Nothing outstanding outside of songs I already knew

Strong 3

Ugh. I anticipate this will suck. OK, it didn't suck. It's actually pretty decent for a 60s hippie album. 3 stars, did not hate.

Loved the lyricism. Favorite songs- Scarborough Fair/ Canticle , The Dangling Conversation, and Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall. Least favorite was the 59th Street Bridge Song. A Simple Desultory Philippic could’ve fooled me as a Bob Dylan song.

Pretty good, I would say as Simon and Garfunkel go, this is very classic for them.

Scarborough Fair/Canticle 4 Patterns 4.1 Cloudy 3.4 Homeward Bound 3.6 The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine 3.2 The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy) 3 The Dangling Conversation 3.3 Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall 3.1 A Simple Desultory Philippic (or How I Was Robert McNamara'd into Submission) 4 For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her 3.7 A Poem on the Underground Wall 3 7 O 'Clock News/Silent Night 2.8 Score: 3.433333333

love the first song, lowk gives very xmas mass reverence + awe inspiration if that makes sense? the rest of the album didn't really stand out too much to me...

Talented songwriting and harmonies are well done. A little too slow and melodic for me. 3/5 Might listen again

Nice easy listening 2.5 stars

Music to pick herbs to, which is in the name I guess.

Too early for prime Simon and G

kindheitserinnerung. naja.

Lieblich und dann Silent Nicht als Protestsong.

A good begining

it's pleasant in a somewhat cheesy way.

Beautiful, smooth harmonies do not make for an exciting album. It makes for a beautiful one that is great at fading into the background and make you forget you're listening to one. Artistically this should be a 4, but because of how soporific it is, I'm docking a star. Plus, "The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine" is a sex thing, right?

More upbeat than I anticipated.

It is a great folk album, a lot of familiar hits.

I don’t like folk too much but there were some standout tracks! Def a 3 1/2 star album for me.

Also liked this one, another 3. I liked their final album more though

Nice! A high three

More of the same. What else am I gonna say except some of it is super corny and Garfunkel was carried by Paul Simon. I question if they were gay lovers, just curious nothing wrong with that.

Beautiful harmonies and some classic tunes, but I don't know what was going on with that Bob Dylan-esque song and Silent Night/7 o'clock News was a failed experiment. I get what they were trying to do, but no.

Meh, some short songs with nice vocals and not much substance. 3 stars

Paul Simon has his way with words, but 'Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme' is still clearly a novice work.

Big S&G fan, but in this case, I'll stick to the greatest hits.

60’s soft rock sound

Classic folk

Some good songs

Enjoyable, will admit nothing truly stands out, but I think I could listen on repeat without real complaints. Homeward bound has stood out It’s unfortunate that I’ve decided to do this project while at work. It means albums like this can easily blend into the background and come up a little short. I enjoyed my time listening but probably missed the thesis of the album. Enjoyable enough that I may go back with a second listen on my own time 3/5

29 minutes long with 12 tracks - this is going to be a banging punk album, right? Well, maybe not. I haven’t listened to this album before, but a couple of the tracks are familiar from hearing them on the radio, ranging from nicely harmonised folk to bouncy pop and a Bob Dylan style rant about the government and numerous drug references. One odd surprise was a cover of the carol Silent Night overlaid with a grim news bulletin. Not as good as Bridge Over Troubled Waters.

Best Track - "Homeward Bound"

Not bad. Completely inoffensive, middle of the road listening. Short album at 28 mins.

I love Simon and Garfunkel, but this is definitely on the softest side. Good songs, but not my favorite.

Pleasant harmonising and folky vibes. Definitely easy on the ears. “Homeward Bound” was my favourite track here, however it did leave me grumpy as I’m currently on the train to work…

It's ok. I liked a few tunes like "Homeward Bound". But It's not really the kind of music I listen to. I can appreciate it in small doses. Thinking it deserves a solid middle of the road 3 stars.

A strangely tentative album with a degree of recycled material. Think I prefer Bookends.

folky. classic. ear worm.

unfortunately kind of boring. all the singles I've already heard a million times from radio play.

A genuinely great album. It's impact is a little diminished by everything that has come since, but it is easy to hear how they have influenced future artists. Favorite Song: Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall

classic right here

Fun. Neat. Easy listening. But just kinda “good” to me.

Some of Simon and Garfunkel's best ever songs, but also a decent amount of filler. For Emily and Scarborough Fair are the highlights. 7/10

Zzz...

Short and sweet. Nice to see best friends never part...

well... it's Simon and Garfunkel. not their most iconic work but it does its job fairly well. one of these songs does a Dylan parody which is kinda fun but definitely is out of my cultural frame deserves to be one of the 1001? you could make a case for it i think

It was alright. At least Simon and Garfunkel sound different than the rest of the albums on here. It also was not too long either. I think it is a decent albulm.

Decent slice of folk rock, even though it isn't my favourite genre. Their version of Silent Night is eerie and is comparable to events today. Might not listen to it all the time but I do think this belongs in the book.

This is the type of music I typically like, but something about Simon & Garfunkel rubs me the wrong way. They just feel overly Americanized somehow I think?

Was familiar with Sound of Silence but not anything else. Ended up liking most of the other songs more than that. Surprised with their sound as it was not all that similar to SoS, in a good way. Short album but wouldn't have minded another couple songs.

I’m not a huge fan of folk music but this isn’t so bad. Not something I’d give a second listen to though. It’s light and airy, easy to listen to. And that last track is almost spooky but melancholic, I like it. I want to give it three stars but... fuck it I’ll give ‘em three.

Far more varied than I thought, some good easy listening with a few tracks really catching me off guard for who I thought they were (I didn't know anything)

Väldigt hög högsta-nivå! Höjdpunkter som Homeward Bound, the 59th street bridge song, scarborough fair och rolig text på a simple desultory philippic. Sen så det en hel del tråkigare låtar som drar ned albumet som helhet

Short but sweet.

I think any greatest hits compilations make it harder to enjoy a s&g album from start to finish. Interesting as an early effort, but would not be going back to relisten.

I sang a version of Scarborough Fair in a high school quartet. That being said, the songs here are what you expect but are not something I would listen to regularly.

My dad is a big Paul Simon fan , so I'm familiar with some of this already, even though I've never listened to it in its entirety. I must admit that I prefer the bouncier pop-infused version of them on _Bridge Over Troubled Waters_. This has some of those moments and at just 29 mins this is pretty listenable and benefits from headphones. But I'm not sure that I'd return to this, I'm much more likely to return to the aforementioned _BOTW_.

This is a good album, based on the genre, but it's a bit "hippie" vibes for me. Clearly there's good song writing here, with catchy melody, great playing, and I really do quite like the harmonies. Favorite track was surprisingly "Silent Night," which I had a pretty negative reaction to at first. "Why is this happening?" But juxtaposed with the news, it's a really fucked up snapshot of what was happening in the world at the time, and I appreciate how that all came together. Not something I'd listen to actively, but appreciate the artistry on display here.

It's fine. Not my jam, but there's some solid music there.

I have no real connection to England, yet I can sing Scarborough Fair only because my mother often played this album when I was a kid. For me it’s a mix of nostalgia and boredom. Paul Simon’s guitar sounds great, so I’d feel differently if I heard these songs live. I kind of like A Simple Desultory Philippic.

Sweet folk sounds, but lots of filler too.

Fav track: 7 O'Clock News / Silent Night

6/10 awh i love these two but i’ve never listened to this album, how do they know about scarborough, it was a good album to listen to and the lyrics had a story instead of stupid stuff which i love, but it hasn’t changed my opinion on folk music or my outlook on certain things, paul simon was the true genius behind everything and garfunkel was just kinda there, i listened to this doing my homework so that explains itself, i did thoroughly enjoy one song tho. fav song: a simple desultory phillipic, maybe coz garfunkel isn’t in it. it was no mrs robinson

I really like Simon and Garfunkel although I haven't listen to them a lot. From this album I had heard one song before. While none of these songs are my favorites of them they still have the sound and feel of the Simon and Garfunkel songs I am more familiar with.

Short and very sweet but, to my ears at least, it’s lacking the punchier, more robust production of records like Bookends and Bridge Over Troubled Water. It has a very, thin, whimsical quality to it. A nice listen nonetheless.

Off the cuff remark: I'm sure there's a dirty rock n roll story in the background but Simon and Garfunkel always seem so .... wholesome. That with just a hint of hippy hangs on this album. Which makes for a pleasant enough, but somehow lacklustre listen. Call it prejudice but the pronounciation of "Scarborough" really irks too. Standout track: 59th Bridge.. even though it has an annoying whimsy about it. Revisit?: if the mood takes me, maybe, just maybe

Based on the hits on this album, expected it to be an easy 4 star album. Unfortunately, there were plenty of other songs that left me cold. Wish I could give it 3.5 stars.

Some nice songs on the album. Making fun of Bob Dylan seems like a very snobby thing to do which makes me like this less. A little too self-satisfying and safe for me.

Z fav song: The Dangling Concersation H fav song: The 59th Street Bridge Song Z: harmony driven sound scapes with introspective lyricism. 7/10 H: A vary harmonious album very indicative of the 60’s. 4/10

What a haunting last song.

Some pretty moments but it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for the record.

It was nice but I don't think I'll be very likely to listen to this ever again.

Good, short, organic, melancholic, folky album. Instruments played live, simple as it can be. Vocal harmonies, pure talent. No quantization, metronome, autotune. Just music, with its inherent and beautiful imperfections. Definitely an album to listen to on headphones or good speakers. That being said, it's a very safe album, with little to none curve balls being thrown. A Simple Desultory Philippic is fun and interesting, and the duality of the last track is noteworthy, but I can't see the reason to this album make into the list. I'm feeling something like a low 6 to a flat 7 on this one. 6,6/10 maybe.

not bad, fun

Cultural impact cannot be overstated

I'll be honest. Could have been better. Ye old cottagecore folk tho, if youre into that.

I like "Bookends" by Simon and Garfunkel. But this project doesn't have that same energy or more all complexity. Not bad at all, but pretty. 3.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐1/2

It's a fine Simon & Garfunkel album. Not one of my favorites, its pretty short, has two of their hits.

Folky, very folky.

Honestly not an album I super love. It's a bit too all-over-the-place for me. I like Simon & Garfunkel but I only ever like maybe 60%-70% of each album. I do think 7 O'Clock News/Silent Night is interesting as piece of art (both for the obvious juxtaposition of the peaceful imagery of Silent Night with the horrors of war and also the fact that neither of them sing the melody, inviting the listener to do so), but it's not an album I will listen to whole.

very interesting

Art Garfunkel was absolutely carried by Paul Simon throughout his career, Paul outshining him at every single opportunity. No wonder he went solo tbh. Not my favourite S&G album but definitely some bops on there

Pretty chill album, nothing exciting but I think that it's a bit outdated nowadays, although it's still pretty alright. It's just a bunch of talking while music is playing in the background but yes.

Not my taste, still good music

just came home from a party night. too lazy to write more than this

This was very comforting - good length because it would have dragged if was longer. Esp liked the last song with it’s theming

For a lot more mellow and less developed Simon & Garfunkel, it doesn't reach the same high of some of their other albums. Feels more soulless and like they aren't using their potential. Homeward Bound is a great song, but it isn't as developed as their later hits.

Folk poético, melódico y tranquilo

It would probably be a 2 or possibly a 3 depending on what the singles were as there are definitely some flops (the awful Silent night for example). There are definitely moments which are worth listening to again, and the album overall works well, it's just not to my taste. I would probably enjoy it more if they were playing in a pub, but I can't see myself listening to it at home again. Interesting hearing as an album as there are some interesting things like similar riffs and motives coming back in different songs.

Surprisingly good, likely something I won't listen to again. Maybe pick out certain songs.

Inoffensive, but ultimately forgettable

Some good, catchy songs. Trivial lyrics. Pop music from before I was born.

Listened to 2 consecutive full Simon and Garfunkel albums because of this site. This obviously doesn't sound as clean as their last album from 1970, but it's still good. The very last song on this album is the most important and relevant right now in 2025

Low-key, well-written.

Maybe I'm in a more amenable mood than usual, but I didn't hate this. Sure it's acoustic. Sure it's folk or at least folk-adjacent. But there's something "dark" for lack of a better term that seems to exist just below the surface of the harmonies, and that makes me at least a little interested in it. In all honesty, I'm starting to think that's Art's influence since Paul's solo work feels so different.

I'm just happy for the chap who was able to reminisce about their late father

Listened to this on a walk with the dog after a heavy storm passed through and the sun just starting to go down and it definitely nailed the vibe. Very solid

Sounds like floating down a river in a drug haze

I'm not really one to give this a proper review really because this sort of music loses my interest at some point, but their voices are gorgeous and it wasn't anywhere near as monotonous as other folk albums, meaning I did enjoy a fair few songs, like the opening one. A high 3. Oh and their Bob Dylan pisstake did make me giggle too

Good, but not quite a 4

so adorable and cute

It’s impact in the times is bigger than how the music has held up, especially compared to their other albums.

short and sweet folk album. i enjoy the more downtempo songs here. the more upbeat ones not so much. not something i would put on myself but i won't be mad if someone put it on

I was really impressed with this album. I’ve seen it for sale at garage sales for dirt cheap and I never picked it up cause I thought it was a less successful album for whatever reason, but this album is great. It is definitely a slower album like a lot of their work, but there’s a good amount of variety on it as well. While I don’t think it’s either of their best album, I do think this album might be under appreciated by people who have a similar first impression as I did when I saw the cover. That’s also my only major complaint is I don’t love the cover. I know portraits are kinda their thing when it comes to album covers, but I just find it boring. Either way this album is definitely a “don’t judge it by its cover” type of album.

too mellow for me

Very short album. Didn’t love it but I get why it’s important. Sounds like Northampton liberal elite stuff. Weird sound collage about Vietnam war. Very earnest sounding bordering on pretentious.

my first Simon & Garfunkel album! They know how to create an atmosphere in a song, I noticed it initially with the song Patterns. The guitar work was incredible, although a few songs were lackluster for me.

Listened

Very ethereal sounding folk music. Angelic harmonizations. Somewhat odd song topics. This is also probably the duo's least accessible record, but that's not to say it doesn't mean there aren't memorable songs on here. Key tracks: Scarborough Fair/Canticle Homeward Bound 7 O'Clock News/Silent Night

it was boring to listen to but had songs that were interesting. sounded really good but didn't grasp my attention

Short and sweet and simple. Maybe not super for me but pleasant enough to listen to. My favourite part was realising that The Simpsons cribbed some of the lyrics on this album and now I get the reference.

I love all things Simon & Garfunkel and rated their previous album on this list a 3. I'm going with the same for this album, mainly because while it has some bangers, the second half of the album is really annoying and short songs with rambling poetry just can't hang. I really appreciated Paul Simon's solo work and I can see how these 2 would have never made it far if they didn't split up. 3.21/5 stars.

Nice, quick, and fine listen. 6/10

It’s ok

Not my favorite Simon and Garfunkel album, but has some excellent tunes

Scarborough fair is decent. Lyrics are good, and S&G have always been good at using stereo sound to create atmosphere in their music. 3/5

Very much not a folk person so couldn’t really appreciate this that much. Very melodic and tight overall, but just not really my bag.

My least favorite of the S&G albums I’ve gotten so far. Just didn’t really click with me, and ending on “Silent Night” kind of sealed my thoughts on it. 2.5 /5

Better than I thought it would be but I still had to listen to it in shifts. The memory of the songs of theirs that I really like... Hazy Shade of Winter, Cecilia, Sound of Silence, 56th St Bridge Song... propelled me through, and I do like their vocal harmonies, but I think this is one band where I can honestly say I like their greatest hits, and not much else. Respect them? yes.

another 3.5 that i’m not quite willing to give a 4. i really want to give an album a higher or different rating but nothing has really blown me away about any of the albums so far. i rlly liked some of these songs but it just doesnt have enough substance to really hold me or engage me beyond just simple enjoyment.

A few good songs but I find it funny that I really enjoyed the Bob Dylan spoof “A Simple Desultory Philippic” as it sounded a bit different. I think I’d listen to “Homeward Bound” again but prefer Paul Simon’s solo stuff personally.

There’s a few good tracks on here

I like the brevity of the album. 28 minutes was a good amount of time for the simple tunes to sustain my interest. Best part of the album was definitely the lyrics. Very poetic, and pleasing to the ear. My fave song was The Dangling Conversation, the singing was great on that one. Fave lyric was from A Simple Desultory Philippic, "Been Phil Spectored, resurrected" crazy Hollywood lore pull in a S&G song. Sometimes I'll think where is this going, only to be surprised in the end of the song with something really good. This is not typically my kind of music, but I can see why it's so revered.

Without doubt have of the great duos, despite their issues their vocals complement each other perfectly. Homeward bound is a beautifully crafted song, but that along with 59th street highlight that some of the other songs (Big bright green pleasure machine) dont quite live up to that exceptional standard. It also feels odd to include a Christmas song on a normal album, no matter how good that song is

This left me with Homeward Bound stuck in my head all day because I'm a certain age and so it's inextricably tied to Michael J Fox voicing a Bulldog. I think their voices are lovely and the songs are pleasant but that this particular S&G album didn't really do it for me. I have always liked "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)" and "A Simple Desultory Philippic (or How I Was Robert McNamara'd into Submission)" though. Bemoaning the lack of a half star again, I'm going for: 3/5

mais ou menos

I liked the album, really had a unique feel and instrumentation for 1966. Not your standard folk album. However ending with "Silent Night" is a let down. 3.5/5

most of the songs in the album made me feel like i was frolicking in a meadow

Close to a 4, but the last song and the Dylan pisstake mark it down. 3.5.

First listen

I enjoyed the melodies and harmonies, which is what Simon & Garfunkel are known for. Its interesting to consider this in context to the time period in which it was written. At the time, many folk artists were considered counter-culturists, even though the music is sweet and pleasant. The lyrics are strong, and I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I was familiar with the famous songs, and I never liked them enough to listen to an entire album. I'm glad I did, but I don't know how often I would listen to stuff like this.

"Sine wave" album, there is some great songs and some really shit songs. Overall, this is something I listen to while staring into the horizon or in the great plains or smth. Favourite Song: Homeward Bound

Folksy Some political

Good album- made me revisit Bridge over troubled water too as I think I was too harsh on it. Need a 3.5 star rating really

This is my third Simon and Garfunkel album on this list, and it is probably my least favorite. It isn't bad by any means, just feels a little redundant. The songwriting just doesn't feel as strong on this album. I still enjoyed the album as much as a guy who doesn't like folk can. High 3.

It's good, but not quite my genre of music

Starts off on a high note with Scarborough Fair, but the rest of the album doesn't quite compare even if there are some smooth harmonies.

I feel like I've always had it ingrained in my mind that Simon & Garfunkel were all time best songwriters and I mean yeah they're good but I don't think I could name more than 3 songs off the top of my mind at any given time I definitely enjoyed this listen but at the same time I don't think it's an all-timer. A few of the last.fm shouts are saying it's their best and I just refuse to believe that I took a costume design elective my senior fall of college and we did a project where we had to pick a famous duo and find their outfits for under $500 and I recreated their Central Park Concert look. My professor loved it but I did drop the class

It's fine but it's not even the best Simon & Garfunkel album from 1966 so I'm not sure how important it was to hear this before I die.

SUper chill, cargado de simbolismos e historias. Lástima lo jugo en inglés

Very pleasant all the way throughout. Not crazy good or anything… just pleasant and enjoyable. Of course I knew Scarborough Fair and Homeward Bound, but the other songs were also pretty good, perhaps excluding “A Simple Desultory Philippic (or How I Was Robert McNamara'd into Submission)”

It was chill, nice melody. Not my cup of tea.
