Reviews (page 8 of 13)

Pretty Damn fine album, but eclipsed by their first. 'The End' is one of my all time favourite tracks. Visited my old school friends at Keele Uni in I think 1979 and they had that track playing on repeat all night. Imprinted...

OK, a Doors album that's not the self titled one... Well, I wasn't in the mood at all when I first put it on, but within a couple of tracks it had won me over. Definitely a solid album worth some more listens! Fave track - "Riders on the Storm" is a classic, and I think the only track I was properly familiar with in advance. "L.A. Woman" is a great tune too...

Haven't listened to this for a long time. Really enjoyed it. Need to listen to The Doors more.

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: L.A. Woman, Riders on the storm

Pretty enjoyable listen. Sounded like a really good blues band jamming for the most part. One thing I never understood with the doors was the keyboard that seemed sort of out of place. Definitely was the case here.

Always good to listen to The Doors

Twas a banger

Not as solid as The Doors, but still a great album. Morrison's voice is just so good

Great album

Classic. You can hear the drug influences on Songwriting, but worth the listen.

This album is a lot blusier than I remember. Outside of the most well known songs on here is some really good stuff. The whole second half of this is pretty good to great Stand out deep cuts: The Changeling, Hyacinth House, Crawling King Snake, The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)

Classic, well made album. Docking a star because I feel some of the tracks are dragged on for a little too long. Standout tracks: Riders on the Storm, Cars Hiss by My Window, Crawling King Snake. 👍🏽

Most enjoyable. Was aware of the well known songs but had not listened to the whole album before. It hangs together pretty well, so much so that I let it run through a second time.

kings of their time. but i personally prefer morrison hotel.

9/10 "Love Her Madly," "LA Woman," "Crawling Snake King," "Riders on the Storm"

Klassiker

Super Album aber nicht der hurricane des Debüts

I liked it, very nice music to work to. Might listen to The Doors more some other time :-)

The final album from one of the greatest rock'n'roll bands in the history of time. A nice last record, full of blusey songs and, of course, some incredible stand-out hits, such as L.A. Woman and Rides of the storm. Gives off a nice, blues-festival vibe.

Good album, LA Woman, Riders on a storm

Canciones favoritas:

🚪🚪🚪🚪🚪🚪

Meandering bluesy tunes. *Riders on the storm

Great rock album. Side two has no duff tracks on it and the title track kills!

Très bon album des Doors, s’écoute très facilement !

I very much enjoyed it. Doors are on at 7pm.

Great music but it doesn't feel cohesive or have a general vibe. Unfortunately that leads me to not listen often. Love Hyacinth House, Been down so long and LA Women

I thought this was going to be a mariachi band, but then I realized it was "L.A" Woman, not "La" Woman. L.A. Woman is my favorite Doors song. Hyacinth House is a hidden gem.

Love Her Madly and Riders on the Storm on the album. Great all all around. Lots of blues. 8/10.

Nice one

I have always felt like I knew nothing about The Doors. They were always that band I should probably listen to at some point. Morrison Hotel reinforced that a few weeks ago when it came up. Highly enjoyable, but all new to me! This album was a surprise because I think I've heard every one of these songs before. This is like a greatest hits album, but it's a regular album. These guys do blues-rock really well, and that's undeniable.

perhaps unsurprisingly more bluesy than i'd have expected

Great album. Lots of synthesizers.

Second best Doors album behind their debut. 9/10 1. Riders on the Storm 2. Hyacinth House 3. LA Woman

very raw album. Bluesy and has some of my favorite doors songs.

Love the blue tracks on this album. Lots of fun. Riders on the storm classic track on this one.

Yes, they are good

That organ sound! Thin, fruity, and flows so well over the grooves. Very enoyable, and lyrically interesting. The bluesier numbers feel cool as fuck. L'America is a JAM. The rhodes piano on Riders on the Storm is a great example of Manzarek's lightness of touch and melodic ear.

Great album from a classic band. Good vibing & working tunes!

Didn't age as well as I expected, but it's a classic

Deep and bluesy. For a band with no bass player, they sure hired some great sidemen. Strong album.

Love the Doors

Wow. A blues infused rock album that, I think, was ahead of its time. Some really great sounds that could have been from today just as much at 50 years ago.

Good times

Some classics!

The Doors are right up my alley. I am starting to find it a bit strange that some of my favourites in this project are as old as I am. I feel very at home with these guys, it's no effort. Sometimes I say a thing is 'not for me', this is the entire opposite, this is for me, made for people like me to enjoy. I so would have been a Doors obsessed fangirl.

Great album!

I like the doors. This is the album that features riders on the storm, LA women, and love her madly. That being said I do prefer the doors album to this one.

Very bluesy.

It's amazing the range of moods this album can drag you through, especially from been down so long, to cars hiss by my window, and finally to L.A. Woman. Been down so long, L.A. Woman, the WASP, and Riders on the storm are def my favorites, in no particular order.

Very good classic album, maybe their best. Very bluesy.

Simply good. I like the groove. Very soothing but still exciting.

The groove are strong with this one.

4 stars

It's impossible to listen to this album and not feel like the coolest person around. Best track: Riders on the Storm

I totally get the disdain for the Doors, but for me I have been a long time fan. L.A. Woman in particular hits a lot of right notes for me as this dark blues output, in line with the band's refocused approach to their style, which went from dark psychedelia to a scruffy blues band. Plus Morrison vocally is way more interesting as an alcoholic crooner than he was as the Lizard King. I also just remember hearing many of these tracks growing up on a local radio station so it has stuck with me. It's very dark, very gritty, but also showcases how great the band musically was outside of Morrison, but you can't have them work without him. Favorite tracks: Riders on the Storm, The Changeling, L.A. Woman, WASP Texas Radio

I have a soft spot for The Doors, and especially for Riders. The reason for that particular affection is embarrassing: A rather cheesy recording of a "Doors concerto" by Nigel Kennedy. So my impression is slightly fuzzier and warmer than it should be, objectively. All that said: The bluesier sound suits the band about as well as can be expected. Morrison sounds like himself but not in an insufferable way. The first half plays it a bit safe, perhaps.

1971. Key Songs: Riders On The Storm, The Changeling, Love Her Madly

Solid Doors album, but not my favorite of theirs

This is fun! Kind of funky, guitars are good Vocals are fine, not great but not offputting Few of the songs are a bit long but overall this is really good! Cohesive but songs are all pretty different and distinct Faves - The Changeling, Love Her Madly, Crawling King Snakes Overall - I enjoyed this! Good solid rock music, fun to listen to Rating - 4/5

L.A. Woman was meant to represent a new path forward for The Doors, that the ragged whirlwind of their stardom would be settled and they'll get into a different groove that suggested there being more than what met the eye. Alas, with Jim Morrison perishing in a Paris bathtub not longer after this, this is the only document of what would be a pipe dream but it is a tantalizing one nonetheless. Favorites: The Changeling, Love Her Madly, L.A. Woman, L'America, Hyacinth House, Riders in the Storm.

Awesome album

This is probably the best Doors album. Bluesy, bearded and definitely LA!

Very forgettable album. Three stars.

Classic album. I think they’re overrated

Good sounding album and I like the importance it had on music. Not really my taste but I don't dislike it. Had no idea that they didn't use a bass player! Not really a fan of songs about getting a blowjob, though.

This album ends stronger than it started for me. However, I was very busy during the first half and this album feels like you should not be very busy while listening to it.

Liked this

I liked 'love her madly' and weirdly 'cars hiss by my window'. First time listening to music and lyrics at the same time. I might like this genre.

The first couple songs weren’t my fav but then this album grew on me a bit. I’m not the biggest fan of the lead singers vocals in every song but the instrumentals are consistently good.

Far less psychadelic than the Doors I am accustomed to. Heavy blues influence. Enjoyable

I've always thought The Doors were a bit "meh". The hit singles from the album are great, Love Her Madly, LA Woman, Riders On The Storm, the rest were alright, but they didn't move me.

Classic Album, very easy listening music.

Avocado toast

I'm learning I do not like The Doors nearly as much as I thought I did. My appreciation comes largely from a few singles and a lot of those are just cuts from their first album. This one starts off with very little of what I like (inventive keys and Morrison's smooth croon), and instead goes for fairly standard rock and blues grooves and Morrison's off-putting snarl. Love Her Madly is the only song that works okay in the first 4 tracks. "Been down so long" is a predictable blues pastiche I found to be pretty terrible. Cars Hiss by My Window is only slightly better. The album picks up a lot of steam with L.A. Woman... with an engaging motorik beat and appealing guitar. I have no idea what inspired Jim Morrison's vocal choices on this song, but he's definitely dragging it down for me. L'America is easily one of the most interesting tracks on the album. The music is engaging and unsettling and the vocal matches it. I also like Hyacinth House, which has Morrison's best vocal so far. Crawling King Snake is another dull blues song. I just don't think this is The Doors' strong suit, despite the fact that it seems to be Morrison's preferred style at this point. The WASP is better, mixing Morrison's spoken-word poetry with some inventive backing music. Finally, Riders on the Storm is almost enough to make me forget how uneven the rest of the album is. It's got such a great groove and the thunderstorm sounds really add to the atmosphere. It's got both the best playing and singing on the album by far. Even though there are several tracks I disliked, this album is held up by quite a few good ones too, ending up as a decent 3/5. I'm finding out The Doors feels like two bands at the same time -- and I only really like one of them.

Enjoyed! I want to relisten on a drive i think. And during a less stressful day of work. This is my first real intro to the Doors and had a devastating thrill of a deep dive on Morrison. “Morrison's senior year English teacher later said, "Jim read as much and probably more than any student in class, but everything he read was so offbeat I had another teacher (who was going to the Library of Congress) check to see if the books Jim was reporting on actually existed. I suspected he was making them up, as they were English books on sixteenth-and seventeenth-century demonology. I'd never heard of them, but they existed, and I'm convinced from the paper he wrote that he read them, and the Library of Congress would've been the only source."”

Klasik. Imaju mi oni boljih albuma, ali kužim zašto je tu. Mellow listening. 3/5, 5/10

Really good

5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background

Except from riders on the storm, the doors are a bit too old to appreciate in modern times unfortunately.

I wasn't expecting a blues album. Great nonetheless!

This is fine. This feels like very standard classic rock. Nothing really stood out to me except: L'America. Not necessarily in a good or bad way. It was just super tonally different from everything else. I was listening to the album while working and had to take a second when it came on because it caught me off guard. I did enjoy Hyacinth House a lot, maybe because the synth/organ thing its got going. On a second listen I'm enjoying it less though, so maybe it was just the reprieve from L'America that lifted my mood. Overall 3/5. It's good enough, I guess.

nao eh meu tipo musical

Gentle, some good tracks but not really for me today

Vintage Rock ? Yes ma'am!!

I mean, it´s alright...

no lo escuche entero pero iba por buen camino

The two tentpole songs are great (title track and Riders On the Storm) even though LA Woman is goofy as hell and also kinda stupid? I’ve been “LA Woman is stupid-pilled” since the episode of Punch Up the Jam years ago. Other than that, this is okay! Doesn’t move the needle too much for me either! The Doors are still a pretty musically (MUSICALLY) talented band that also kinda sucks.

good ol blues music

6.5/10. Boring album, unless you pretend you were on drugs when you listened to it.

Another album where the best songs are so famous it’s difficult to measure them against the rest of the album. In this case, sadly I just don’t think the rest of the album is as good

I was expecting it to be a bit better really. It was what I'd call a moody album. There were a couple of decent tracks, but it just seemed to meander for a couple of tracks then perk up for a track, and so on.

Clasic. Good

Riders On The Storm is pretty good, and some of their other songs are enjoyable. But I was expecting something more from The Doors. Overall pretty okay. 3.5 would be best.

Very gritty, but also chill album. I had to look up, "is Jim Morrison even on this album cover?" Holy heck, he's the guy on the right and there's a whole story that goes along with it. I appreciate that he didn't want to stand out.

Raspy, drunk, clouds of cigarette smoke, cheap Jack Daniel’s, worrying if your card is gonna go through on the next round, shouting gossip in a crowded bar. This is Jim Morrison’s perfect form. LA Woman captures perfectly The Doors’s signature sound mixing blues, rock, early garage, punk. In the tree diagram of music genres, it sits high up influencing so many other greats. Besides LA Woman, Love her madly, and Riders on the storm, other songs like Been down so long and Hyacinth House are excellent and deserving of a moment amongst friends. That being said, listening to this album inebriated can induce you into semi psychosis, (can music actually get you drunker? It can definitely compound d feelings of dizziness and not knowing your bearings- I’m looking at you L’america, with your taunting organ) so tread with caution.

Not my favorite Doors album. Nothing here was super catchy

Riders on the Storm

lowkey

I dunno about this one. I liked the beat of wasp, but I never trust a white man saying anything about... what he was talking about! Left a bad taste in my mouth, and that was the one song that really intrigued me. Not a huge fan of all the organ integration either. Meh. 5/10

the hits are hits, the rest are okay

Lo siento, no me encantan. Riders es increíble.

This was not anything really for me

3.5 Some good songs but also just doesn't really stand out from other rock albums of this period for me

Okay. Just okay. I dont like them any more or less than years ago.

I haven’t really listened to The Doors in a long time. It took me back in time

fue un the Doors qué nunca había escuchado y eso que me gusta el álbum "the doors" pero este fue raro

for a solid 72 hours I’ve tried to figure out what to say about this album and I can’t for the life of me think of anything. I’m not sure why! It’s just super super competent but idk what else. Riders on the storm is a stone cold classic but I kind of skated over the rest even after two full listens

One of the better doors albums. Still nothing to write home about but it’s an enjoyable listen Fav song: Riders on the Storm

i feel like im drinking my worries away in a pub

Another just fine entry from the Doors. Starting to think they're greatest-hit-album merchants

A generous 3 a few good songs amongst some very weak tracks...obviously riders on the storm carries the whole album. If they had a few more killer songs like that it would be a very good album.

Dont think id ever CHOOSE to listen to The Doors. But this was pretty good. Think I preferred rhis to their other album which we reviewed on here. 3.5

I get why people love The Doors. I do. I absolutely love some of their stuff. But a whole album, in most cases, just bores me.

Way more enjoyable than I wouldn’t predicted. Super nostalgic to that teenage moment in time when most people are into this band.. but hearing them for the first time in many years they sound surprisingly fun and fresh.

Nice, maybe a bit too bluesy for me, however a true classic final song with a great length!

Very bluesy compared to other Doors records, but I like it

It was alright

Outside the one or two well know songs, the rest was quite average I would say.

Ok I guess.

nw tbh troche zie ni skupialam, momentmi fajne

Bumping this up majorly for L.A. Woman, because the rest of it really kind of blows

It's enjoyable and pleasant to listen to. With the odd bit of darkness, though more would have been nice. Good but not great.

Pretty decent album tbh. Best song is easily riders on the storm, nice vibe to it.

The first half of this album was a bop, the second half just got on my nerves a little

My parents were big fans of this album so this had a pleasant nostalgia to it :^)

Great album, but not the best for me from The Doors.

Buen album chill y partes instrumentales

It's good but I am probably never going to listen to it again

Feels like being transported back in time; can get a little repetitive but what a vibe

Pretty good.

Interesting album for sure. I don't know why I thought the doors were more rock. This gave a folsky blues vibe. 5.6/10

Solid singles. not a huge fan of all of the songs though

A couple of great songs but not as good as the other album as a hole.

It's interesting and has a bluesy vibe, but I was expecting more

I like the music quite a bit. Very groovy. But I don't really like the singer's voice.

Helt udmærket album. Riders on the storm er et af deres bedste numre, men udover den er der en del bland album cuts på den her

Lidt lavere koncentration af bangere end på andre Doors plader vi har haft, men fed!

Right away, I will say it's not exactly up my alley. That being said, a whiskey man can appreciate a nice glass of gin every now and then without losing his mind, if you catch my drift. The last album Jim Morrison sang on, is a relaxing, smooth, listen that can, at times, pick up the BPM and scream at you. There's something about the way Morrison belts out the words, a sort of guttural, primal, raspy scream, that draws the audience in. You can't deny the passion. The title track, "L.A. Woman," is in my opinion, a damn good song. You just can't help beating your head along to the bass line - and who is "Mr. Mojo Rising?" Another note, "Riders on the Storm," listened to properly takes you on a ride in a '63 Mustang on a coastal drive through a rainstorm (top down of course). Sonically adventurous sounds on that track, to say the least. Overall, a fun listen, and I'd venture to guess these gentlemen were under the influence of various substances during the recording process - a suggestion that could certainly adjust the listening experience for the audience, perhaps.

I prefer this album to the “Doors.” My ears gravitated to the bluesy “Been Down So Long.” “LA Woman” is overly long, but I still enjoy it. It could be Morrison’s voice and/or the keyboard sound (which is not a sound I like, but it’s very much their sound)that adds a sense of dread on top of lyrics. “Riders on the Storm” is a big “No” for me.

Probably more of a 2.5 but ends on a high point with riders of the storm

Not my favorite. Like Riders on the Storm, but it is a bit long. Lead singer gets a bit incoherent sometimes, but the band is tight. Sometimes a bit derivative.

A classic band and singer that certainty has left a mark on the music world. Its good, easy, smooth music which is easy to listen to or have on while not focusing on the music itself. Its not really music that I would choose but definitely not something I would switch away from.

I don't find myself all that interested in the blues rock stuff. Highlights for me are "L'America" and "Riders on the Storm," both a little more removed from the blues rock style.

Eh, middle of the road. nothing too memorable.

This had its moments. Definitely more of a blues album than a rock album, which makes it a little less sticky for me. But it was decently enjoyable. 6/10 Pretty Good

I like The Doors, not my favourite album from them tho. It would help to understand what moment of their career they were going through and the historical context also. But the sound itself wasn't very appealing for me at its face value. Hopping to get another album from them in the future to make it right.

Some all time Doors singles (Love Her Madly, Riders on the Storm, the title track) surrounded by filler and competent white boy blues.

something a bit different, so i enjoyed, but again not going to be a repeat listen

Jom Morrison makes this impossible to love

Jim Morrison's last album with the band has some serious highs and some pretty forgettable lows. Not sure if it's true or not, but I remember reading that the very last piece of music Morrison ever recorded were the haunting whisper-like backing vocals on Riders on the Storm. It's either fitting or cruel that in his final (recorded) moments, the loud, obscene, and boisterous Morrison was reduced to a whisper.

Some cool moments as is standard for most Jim Morrison Doors output. By this point though, I think the culture had mostly caught up with the Doors. There isn't a ton of L.A. Woman that you couldn't locate on other albums and their mythos helps to pave over some of their lamer tracks. You'll notice folks like to talk about Riders on the Storm, which is a really awesome moody track, but no one really gives much thought about Cars Hiss By My Window or Crawling King Snake. L.A. Woman has a couple of those types of tracks. The barn burners; L.A. Woman & Riders on the Storm are just that & the album is legendary on account of those tracks but let's not overlook Hyacinth House which is probably my favorite cut on the album. Favorite Tracks: L.A. Woman, Hyacinth House, Riders on the Storm, The WASP

I don't know if they were running out of steam by this point, but this was their 6th album in the space of 4 years. I really like The Doors and certainly feel that I prefer the earlier albums. This is my first time hearing this one and apart from the title track and Riders on the Storm, nothing else stands out too much, The Changeling was decent though. I appreciate what they were trying to do on some of the tracks but something didn't land for me. 3/5

This recording was good when it was current but listening to it now, it sounds so dated. Morrison's voice is as my son put it, "iconic."

The Album is good, some songs I quite like. To be honest, myself I don’t like this album to much. Not saying it’s a bad, just not really for me

Muy sin más. Also la N palabra en una canción?? goddamn

I enjoyed it. Probably won't revisit, but enjoyed the blusey portions.

Gritty, but gives road trip vibes

favs — 'love her madly', 'hyacinth house'

Rock de l'époque, je savais pas que Riders on the storms c'était d'eux

D'habitude j'aime bien The Doors mais j'ai trouvé cet album assez générique

More blues that i realised

The blues suits Morrison's voice quite well. There's only one weird pretentious Morrison beatnik poetry shtick in WASP & that one is pretty decent. Other than the hits, the rest are hit or miss. 3

Interesting album, not particularly my taste by with some insane guitar riffs and lumberjack esc vocals I feel like I could enjoy this type of music more. The intro was very nice with a fast upbeat tone.

A more matured sound that was more my speed than their debut

groovy

Pas spécialement mon truc, c’était sympa mais rien de plus à dire.

Some high highs, but some average stuff across the whole album. Had a nice time with it though.

I don't know why I don't like The Doors more given how profoundly influential they were on music that I love, but I don't. While a blues rock band at heart, their attempts at straight-up blues - like this record and Morrison Hotel - sound inspid compared to real bluesmen, or even The Stones, or Zeppelin. The Doors were at their best stepping up and being weird, as seen here on the title track and the famous Riders on the Storm: the rest is merely fine.

reminded me of my pops a little bit. a little slow-paced, but definitely enjoyed!

Decent

Pretty good but not as good as their first one.

Some I liked others I didnt

I'm a bit indecisive on how to score this one. On one hand it's The Doors and features the hits L.A.Woman, Riders on the Storm, and Love Her Madly. On the other hand, there's some strange stuff on here (L'America?!) and I realized I don't really love Morrison's voice. Based on the hit value alone, I'm going with 3.

Surprised I didn't enjoy this more. Got some good songs, but has some fairly by numbers blues songs.might be an argument they're better as a greatest hits band

Best The Doors album so far

This was much more blues then I was excepting, I really thought of them as more a psychedelic band. The Blues was not a bad thing, I enjoyed then the psychedelic stuff. It is subtle and can be a little quiet so you have to really listen to pick up how much talent and skill goes into it. The big hits that I think of when it comes to the Doors (LA Women, Love Her Madly, Riders on the Storm) are all on this album, so it does have good bones. The other songs are good, but not standouts. Part of me really enjoys this and knows they are so iconic that I should be rating this as a 4. But there is another part of me that doesn't see how this is amazing, but just a decent album that keeps it mellow coming in at a 3. Instead of 6/7 its 3/4

I love The Doors, but by this point, Jim Morrison sounds like the sloppy mess he’d become. This is a great album to question whether he was as talented as the music biz made him out to be. His lyrics ramble. He repeats himself over and over. The blues rip-offs are becoming parodies, at least to my modern ears. Credit where it’s due: Love Her Madly is a perfect song. It’s probably the best song they ever made. L.A. Woman at least rambles with purpose, and Riders On The Storm is moody perfection, still fitting nicely on any Halloween playlist. I guess what I love about their earlier work is the dark organ in all of it. It sounds spooky, mysterious, and vital. I get the feeling here that the band was just working with a tempestuous front man who could barely get his shit together long enough to toss out even a moderately decent record. Or he was just so lost that he’d reached his point of no return. That’s the most likely case. Anyway, outside the hits, this record is sludge. 3/5

I love the Doors, but this is probably my least favorite of their albums

First half of the album is great, but then L'America and a couple of the weird artsy songs ruin the back half before Riders picks it back up.

The songs I love, I love. I never paid much attention to this one and was hoping for some bright spots aside from the one I know by heart from classic rock radio. Those extras weren't too extra.

Not my favourite doors. Bluesy over rocky. Jim didn't seem quite so expressive for the most part than I remember for their other records. Felt slightly less innovative

𝘓.𝘈. 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯 is a solid blues-rock record, and the band sounds relaxed and confident throughout. The songs have a loose, barroom feel that suits the material well. Still, I struggle with the vocals of Jim Morrison, and that makes it difficult for me to fully enjoy the album despite its strengths. It’s also notable as the last album recorded with Morrison before his death later in 1971, which gives the record a certain historical weight. Even so, while the music itself is good, Morrison’s singing keeps me from connecting with it.

Was never really able to get into the Doors

una que otra es buena, no me mató

L.A. Woman and Riders on the Storm are perfect songs - the rest of the tracks dont add (or take away!) much from the Doors canon.

I have very similar feelings to this as I did to their debut. I like it a lot, and The Doors as a band seems to have a vibe that I gravitate hard to. As the bands farewell statement, I’d say they went out strong, with a more bluesy approach it feels a lot more mature. Yeah liked this a lot, want to give it a relisten tho, as I think my rating will go up.

It’s not bursting with their best hits, but the songs are strong and make a cohesive unit. Almost four stars.

I guess I'm just not a doors fan

This is my second Doors album of the project, and I've only had 24 albums between them. Come on! Anyway, this is an OK blues-rock album. It's less mystic and psychedelic than their debut, but it doesn't have the same level of songs. Lyrics are as trite as ever, and much of the music is just basic blues-rock that doesn't sound like the Doors' debut much at all. Even worse, the hooks just aren't there the way they are on the debut. There are still good songs here ("Riders on the Storm" and the title track), but it's a weaker record overall than the self-titled.

I liked some of the songs; I didn’t love the lead singers voice; some of the experimental things were cool. Prob won’t listen again but glad I know this now

Pas mal du tout. J’ai écouté en courant, donc peut-être pas les meilleures conditions, malgré tout c’était une bonne expérience.

I'm still a fan of the hits, but the rest of the songs are a mood. L'America has more going on than I remembered. Didn't realize Crawling King Snake was a remake. I will continue to selectively listen to my favorites when I'm in the mood, but overall not my style.

Bit funky eh? I enjoyed about half of it, but the ones I didn’t were truly annoying. I gave The Ramones a 5/10 and now I wish I’d given that one a 4/10 because L.A. Woman shouldn’t be above a 5 lol

I enjoyed a lot of the guitar work on this album and totally understand why some people LOVE the doors. I guess it didnt male me feel massively excited musically/emotionally or scratch my brain like my faveeee music does. Still appreciate it tho

I've always hated the Doors, but have I ever really listened to the Doors? I don't know... well, now I have, they're fine, whatever, they're just ok. They border on really ok, but settle on just fine.

Understand the hype around The Doors now. Really good album, especially Riders on the Storm and Hyacinth Doors

the back half of this album is solid. but i just don’t love the doors.

The Changeling is eh, Love Her Madly is pretty good. So far I really don't think this is album is for me. It makes me think of dry heat, dead grass, dust, and a broken fridge. I like the weird guitar in Been Down So Long, but not the vocals. I really like Cars Hiss by My Window! I like how calm it is. I like the beat of L.A. Woman, and the guitar. Very long though. I listened to this twice and I barely remember the songs between L.A. Woman and Riders on the Storm, which I feel a little bad for. Riders on the Storm is excellent. I have added it to my playlist.

Not existed

It was good. Standout tracks are Riders on the Storm, Love Her Madly, and L.A. Woman

Honestly a vibe, but it didn’t particularly excite me

rock organ ftw, but lost interest during the b side

Just doesn't have the magic of the albums which came before. Too much rocking and stomping - too much blues, going on and on and on.... When it works (LA Woman, Love Her Madly, Riders on the Storm) it manages to be magnificent, though.

Very blues - Influenced album. Enjoyed the lyrics and bass guitar. I can see how future rock albums have been influenced by this sound.

A lot more thrilling if you pretend it’s Electric Mayhem because he sounds exactly like Dr Teeth

The highs of this record are high indeed, but there’s a little too much blues noodling. Riders on the storm is still phenomenal

Ehhh, wasn't doing much for me.

Has some great blues inspired songs. I’ve also always loved the use of the keys in The Doors music. Love Her Madly has a great chorus change up that I really enjoyed. Definitely some classics on this record.

Mostly a substandard blues album but Riders on the Storm is a great track.

This band is perfectly surmised on this album's track "L'america." where the first half is this weird/dark psychedelic brooding track and the back half gets a little more classic blues rock. This whole album is split on me with moments like this. It closes with arguably the best doors song "Riders on the Storm" and some decent singles / tracks like Hyacinth House, Love Her Madly and L.A. Woman. Then it has some meh blues rock tracks like The Wasp or Been Down so Long or Car Hiss by the Window. It is not the untouchable masterpiece like their first self titled but it's worthwile.

The wikipedia article says that they wanted to "get back to their roots and make a blues album" but this album does best when it isn't being a blues album. The blues numbers are underwhelming to me.

fav songs: the changeling love her madly l.a. woman riders on the storm smoky, groovy ,garage-blues 60/100

This one was pretty good. I especially liked The Changeling.

I’m not the biggest Doors fan. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy them at all, cause some of their stuff is pretty great. But I don’t think I understand exactly why they seem so universally loved and regarded as some legendary band. This is one of their big records, and it’s not bad at all, but they play a lot of pretty standard blues progressions over and over and over. I dunno, it’s fine but I guess I’m just waiting to be truly blown away by their brilliance. To be fair, I did enjoy Morrison Hotel quite a bit (I probably rated it too low at a 3), though I've never circled back to it, so maybe I'm being a little hard on the Doors as a band because I'm not as in love with this record as I feel like I ought to be, at least according to my friends that are big fans. 6.5/10

Some great songs on this album that I like, but wouldn’t recommend listening to the whole album.

Bluesy Doors

Much like Morrison Hotel I came to this album thinking that I only knew one of the tracks, the big hit "Riders on the Storm". But actually I knew a few more than that. I also knew "L.A. Woman" and I was almost convinced that I knew "The Changeling" too, but felt I had heard it performed by another band. This is much more what I would expect from a The Doors album. There is more noodling and that reverb filter that makes Jim Morrison's voice sound a bit trippy. Its a more experimental funk and blues album and I enjoyed that more than i thought that I would. (3.250)

motel money murder madness!

Very chaotic

-Love her Madly: DONT YOU WANNA BE HER DADDY?!?! Okay in general love his voice. I think Hozier probably draws some inspiration from him? I think they are know for being "bluesy" so that tracks. Fun electric guitar too just in general. Riders on the storm isn't all that... lost me at "girl gotta love your man." Catchy tho Idk overall i see how they're influential with the bluesy rock hoarse voice style. I liked it, but i dont think I'd revisit it frequently.

Not all that keen on parts of this one but Riders is a banger

Cool instrumentation/composition but I found the melodies to be underwhelming. Can 1000% see 70s teens hearing this album and buying guitars though. Good shredding.

The hits are amazing, the blues tracks are quite good… the rest is drug induced dreck.

I really liked some of the songs and could tell the whole album was objectively good. However, besides the hits (Love Her Madly and L.A. Woman), the songs were pretty repetitive. They feel a bit like a one trick pony to me. But I guess they do that well.

3.5 because I fell asleep during the latter half (not bc it was boring, but bc it was the middle of the night and i was lying in my bed.) Will listen again and update this review

not their best album i fear..

I had this when I was a kid and alt rock types thought Jim Morrison was cool. Turns out he was s bit of a knob with an over-self-aware singing voice. Fantastic organ sound throughout, strong rhythm section. Some good tunes, including Rider on the Storm, let down by too many white mam pretends to sing the blues.

Mixed feelings here. Take Been Down, for example: amazing guitar, muddled lyrics and vocals. Generally brilliant guitar throughout. LA Woman, despite rock radio attempts to beat it like a dead politician, is beyond brilliant, everything coming together, seizing the moment so tightly it escapes time's constraints. Who cares what else is on the album? 5 for LA Woman, 3 overall.

The good ones are pretty great. The bad ones would be better w/o Jim. Still, this is a good incarnation of the band, with the addition of a bassist and rhythm guitar player. And even though I'm not the biggest Jim fan, when he's on, he brings it. I would have liked to have gotten more albums from them.

My first time listening to this album since maybe my freshman year of high school. I thought Jim Morrison was a poetic genius. Nostalgic. Some of it is cute and charming. I don’t love it anymore. I might not even like it.

It's good. I guess. Struggle to say much unique about this one.

Really varied voice and vibe range, never listened to the Doors before

- Ik had meer verwacht. - 0 nummers toegevoegd aan MMMM - 0 nummers al toegevoegd aan MMMM

Some really good, some pretty average

3.5/5. I don't love the Doors but there's some good stuff here

I haven't listened to the Doors for ages, and I enjoyed it more than I expected to. I like Riders on the Storm, and I also liked the gentler bluesier bits.

Riders on the Storm bangs, 3/5

I realized that I may not have listened to a Doors' in its entirety -- sure this album changes that, but I am not convinced to listen to more. Absolutely amazing at its peak, but numerous forgettable tracks too.

Incoming biased opinion: I think Jim Morrison was wildly overrated. An insufferable dickhead. He's the weakest link in the band. But the band is tight as hell on this album. Especially with the addition of Elvis Presley's bassist and guitarist Jerry Scheff and Marc Benno respectively. Some of their strongest work in my opinion. However Morrison isn't without his charm and his love of the blues is quite apparent here.

Definitely not The Doors' worst album, but for me, not their best either. Jim Morrison's blues obsession in his later years likely led to the band's shift in sound on this album; in my opinion, they shouldn't have done that; that's not what made The Doors great. Some songs are downright boring, and The Black Keys' take on "Crawling King Snake" is a better choice (old ones, don't hold it against me). However, the entire album is worth listening to, especially the last song, "Riders on the Storm." Simply magical. Ray Manzarek's keyboard solo, the sound of the waves... And Jim's strained vocals are very fitting here; he may have lived a sinful life, but he said goodbye beautifully.

Not a bad record by any means, but I was left with few impressions. 3.5/5

Riders on the Storm is awesome, but a lot of this is almost too straight up bluesy compared to what I expect from the Doors.

Thought it would be better

This album as a whole is much bluesier in my opinion than the other Doors’ albums. Some of my favorite singles though.

i was not expecting jim morrison to sound like that lol. it was much slower paced than other rock i’m used to but i did enjoy

Favorites: Love Her Madly, Been Down So Long (ish), Cars Hiss By My Window, Hyacinth House, Riders of the Storm. Mostly extremely fascinating despite not being my taste, but certain tracks I simply hate Morrison’s voice (The Changeling, L’America and again Been Down So Long).

I think I should like blues rock because of how much I love Led Zeppelin. Yet it just isn't hitting very much here. I am kind of bored.

Haven't listened to it but assume I'll like it overall

I enjoyed the hits

Really feels like they wrote three Great songs where they expanded on the overdone blue formula and made something cool and then went damn we need a whole album and wrote 7 filler songs of the most average blues rock of all time. I feel like they get marketed as the FIRST to do it and that’s why it’s cool and innovative but zeppelin 1 came out two years before this; do better.

Riders on the Storm is a beast of a track.

I like The Doors but holy hell this is too many 12 bar blues! Other song structures exist! Riders on the Storm is an amazing track though

I like the sound but it’s probably a 3.5 for me, given that I can’t really remember any songs except riders in the wind I’ll give it a 3.

Tell me why when I was 20 I spent my short precious visit to Paris tracking down Jim Morrisons grave. It wasn't because I'm a Doors super-fan. Google would have helped me make some better choices in the 90's. This album is alright.

A few great songs. A lot of white guy blues.

Det blir tyvärr lite väl mycket bluestugg för min del, även om det säkert va skitfett live. Kul med så mycket orgel ändå! Men helvete vad dom levde mycket på att Morrison va så jäkla sexig En svag trea

The Doors med extra blues tack! Rätt soft, men också rätt bjäring på samma sätt som Aftermath-skivan. Jämnare nivå men ingen Paint it Black eller under my thumb.

Generally enjoyed. 3.5

Like a 6 out of 10.. got progressively more boring but the first 2-3 songs were bangers

Obviously a classic and so influential to rock/blues music in so many ways. I’ve heard this album before and definitely think it’s solid. Just overall not my favorite type of music and nothing on here that I really love. But great overall. Top Songs: Love Her Madly, L.A Woman

I'm not a big fan of the doors so I was expecting this album to be a slog, but it was surprisingly ok. Although I think I've heard the Snoop Dogg version of Riders on the Storm enough times that I missed him in the background going "Riders... riders"

It's the Doors. Mid overall.

Why do they insist on the organs? It sounds more retro than their debut. Jim has a deeper and rough voice here too, which adds to the blues vibes.

A classic, but for me missing impact on the lyric side.

Not a bad album, but it's buoyed by Morrison's voice. Without that, it's just a collection of mostly mid-tier blues rock.

Not sure I buy into the whole Jim Morrison mystique but The Doors have some solid songs.

Overall I didn’t hate it! I could toe tap to most of the songs but not something I would listen to again

Not necessarily my type of music, but something I would probably listen to again.

not my style but pretty good

Never heard a single Song from the Doors. I expect the usual 70s rock songs. While listening I got to say that the Singer really has a strong singer voice. I didn't expects to hear this much grit in a 70s voice. Adding on to the good sides of the record, I think that the organ really fits and belongs to the band. As I already said in a prior review, there is no 'stick out' Song with those classic 70s rock records. However it manages to create some kind of ambient. I would maybe for the right price get this album in physical form. 7/10! (if 5-6 is average)

Decent enough

3 out of 5. Probably my favorite of theirs now, but I've always had a hard time getting into The Doors.

A bit too bluesy for my tastes but 'Riders on the Storm' is a classic.

Some good songs but also some pretty boring sections in there that really let the album down

Maybe my first ever full doors album and the last ever one Morrison featured on. Understand it may be a bit different to their norm, but I’m ready to see how it lands… Kinda punchy, marching feel to a lot of the songs and rhythm. Also reminds me of some Beatles or sgt. peppers at times somehow. Huge blues presence, maybe more than I imagined with the doors. Enjoyed the quirkiness of L’America, but otherwise, not particularly grabbed, even by classics like Riders on the Storm. Kinda samey, sluggish, set rhythm and a bit meh (3.5)

Enjoyable 70s rock but no major standouts for me. Preferred it to CCR but besides The Changeling and Riders on The Storm no standout tracks.

Just fine

It's ok. Kinda feel like it drags a bit.

Riders on the Storm is such a fucking cool name for a song. Favourite Track(s): Riders on the Storm, Crawling King Snake, The Changeling Least Favourite Track(s): L'America

The songs are great for playing in the background while you do your stuff, its not so distracting, by that I mean I enjoyed the sonority and the voices but more as a something you put on as a "real life soundtrack" than "I´m defenetly downloding this to listen in a road trip" or "Oh i want to hear THAT specif song". Hyacinth House is the exception, i would stop to only listen to it

-took a sec to realize what he meant by "been down so long" -some of the lyrics are ew (see above) -nice riffs -i liked "hyacinth house" -either i've heard "riders on the storm" (likely) or i've heard some parody of it (also likely)

It was good. Just not quite my style of music.
