As silly as it sounds, Matt Groening was right, it does take multiple listens until it just clicks. I've listened to this a bunch over the years and it's a favorite now. Loved reading all the takes from other unsuspecting listeners, they are not wrong lol.

Really not that bad but that's definitely not a good sign. Wish i could give it a 2 and a half but it just feels off giving it a 2 so imma be generous and go with 3.

I hate rating systems cuz i always change mine and compare too often ie. If so and so got a 3 then this isnt as good should get a 2 yadda yadda.. so from now on its gonna be 1- bad, 2- ok, 3- good, 4- great, 5- classic. This is a 2. Theres some good stuff and some really not good stuff.
I know shit about mysic so you can disregard my opinion but with my completely untrained ear I couldnt help but feel like some of this singing is REALLY bad. Im more familiar with the high pitched tight pants Bee Gees but this felt like a satirical Beatles spoof. Am I missing something? Is there some elaborate joke I'm missing. They sound like frogs.

At first i was like "oh no..." at its worst, lyrically it feels like bad showtunes but musically some of this fucking rips.
The band is funky as fuck but jesus does Anthony Keidis suck.

Probably the album i've listened to the most. Absolute banger. The one i always recommend to people who wanna check out Zappa but might be apprehensive due to all the yellow snow, tower of powers, and cum. The perfect way to ease them into the weirdness.

Sometimes i'm not in the mood tonlisten to whatever they suggest and just listen to my own shit and then gotta play catch up with the albums i missed. That what i did with Tim Buckley a couple days ago and instead I listened to Thundercat's Drunk cuz its one of my faves and i listen tonit all the time so it was funny to see that Thundercat's Drunk was literally one of the albums i missed when I just happenes to be listening to it anyway. And I'm not even gonna count that listen, imma listen to it again right now cuz its that good.

I think i need to re-evaluate my ranking system. Ive been hesitant to hand out 1's but there seems like a huge gap between a 3 and a 4. If this is a 1 then so is that Lenny Kravits album.
Maybe I'm being generous because of nostalgia, this album was formative for me, but while I admit alot of the "nu-metal" I was into is cringe and hard to listen to now I can still throw this on an get into it so that has to count for something.

I love Husker Du but like earlier Husker Du. Gimme Landspeed Record, Metal Circus, or Zen Arcade. They got more polished and leaned more alternative and that stuff is good but their aggressive stuff is GREAT.

Incredibly brave of this performer to release an album when you aren't very good at singing.
I always liked The Monkees cuz of the show and how camp it was but when you remove that and just listen to them it really is nothing but a wannabe Beatles and has very little to offer on it own musically.

I don't know if this hits as well as it did when I was younger but it's a formative album for me so it feels wrong to not rate it like a classic. Weirdo circus music.
I used to be really into the whole numetal and numetal adjacent scene and the truth is a lot of this stuff doesn't hold up well at all. This kinda still slaps. It's way more raw than most of the overproduced studio metal coming out around this time. I'm gonna be generous.
