Love the instrumentals a lot

my fave so far i think is the title track, cohesive album though i do also thing it sounds quite similar. different style than i normally like but i’m enjoying it more than i thought i would.

prvi put kad sam slusala je bio nrpodnosljivo dosadan onda je posle bio ok mislim okej je ali ne bih nikad samoinicijativno pustila

I don’t really like the doors, but it was an appealing listening experience

Good album vut nothing really stood out to me so it gets 3/5

Not too bad but I didn't find it the most interesting. Standout track: Riders on the storm

Not at all what I was expecting for what I know of The Doors. More bluesy than psychedelic rock, which surprised me. Several of the songs were a bit droning for my taste, but I enjoyed the two classics on this album: Love Her Madly and Riders on the Storm. Overall ok, but not really the kind of music I generally enjoy.

*This album sounded fine but if I want to listen to blues or the Doors, I'm picking a different album.

I thought that a few songs were good. I don’t remember a whole lot from it though, so maybe I didn’t like it that much.

This is very much a blues album. I didn't love it, didn't hate it. Riders on The Storm is definitely a classic though.

When I hear Riders on the Storm I think of Need for Speed Underground 2. That takes me back. I’m learning that The Doors is a pretty good band. I have 0 problems listening to any of their music, and this album is no different.

tiene un par de las mejores canciones que hicieron pero el resto eh. demasiado blues de gente blanca

groovy

Didn’t listen to it all. But didn’t like Morrisons raspy bluesy voice. Love riders on the storm tho.

p*t**n de raciste Mais cool

I didn’t realize the doors did this much bluesy sound. But the other parts vibe pretty good. I’m always floored by what a bad lyricist he was.

groovy

7.5/10 favs: the changeling / love her madly

Ok - Rider’s on the Storm clear standout - didn’t dislike, but nothing to help me understand the elevated status of the Doors based on their music alone

Favorite track: L’America and Hyacinth House Extremely bluesy. I’ve read that some of Morrison’s musical influences included Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf and that is extremely apparent to me. In comparison to other Doors albums, this one isn’t my favorite. Overall a classic rock album that is always easy to put on.

It’s okay. I’m gonna be honest way before doing this challenge I dove a bit into The Doors so all I can really say is that I just think their stuff after Strange Times is okay at best just due to how much they stick with the plain blues formula when Morrison has already made it obvious by the first two Doors albums that he can write some interesting stuff but eh. It’s just going through the motions.

Decent but forgettable tbh

I’ve always found this overrated. I find the songs very similar. If it wasn’t for Riders On The Storm and Been Down So Long I would have had it even lower.

Like listening to 70's blues. I like it. Giving a 3 close to a 4

Heavily Blues influenced album. Enjoyed 50% of it. The Doors are who you thought they were.

If forced to buy one Doors LP, this would be the one. Respectable. Solid deep cuts (Hyacinth House, The WASP.) Title track is a romp, but the best lyrics Jim ever wrote are in "Roadhouse Blues" on Morrison Hotel.

More of a blues record than I remembered. Nice to have on, I'm not in love though

6.0/10

I liked this album musically but Jim Morrison has an annoying voice and L'America is awful

I liked it! Def a vibe.

It was good

The hits are good but the rest is meh. Blues written for men who had a guaranteed pension and enough in the bank to buy a second house isn't where it's at.

i can never make up my mind about this band, i either really enjoy their songs or i really hate them and this album didn’t help clear that up for me at all

Not bad, I can see why people like it. Kinda a jam. Lots of keyboard and organs.

Sympa, sans plus

Experimental

I groaned when I saw I was going to be listening to the doors today, I've never cared for them. I enjoyed this album a lot more than I was expecting! Still didn't care much for the radio singles, but the rest of the album was pretty good.

Some good songs that I think should be given more airtime compared to other doors songs, but again really started to drag on the second half of the album. Also riders of the storm does not need to be as long as it does

ive listened before so this is my second listen but I don't remember the first time : The guitar riff in changeling is really fun! I do like classic rock so it is more of my jam then some other albums. "cars hiss by my window' is kind of a boring track when I enjoyed the previous ones. L'America sounds just like Jim Morrison is disassociating. probably give this like a 3.5/5 or 3/5 because it was better than mine yesterday....... overall like a 7.9/10 I will probably listen to their other stuff.

The Doors are easily one of the most important and influential bands of their time, and it came as quite a surprise when Jim Morrison unexpectedly passed away soon after the release of their 1971 album L.A. Woman. This album was subsequently given an eerie aura around it that still can be felt to this very day. While The Doors never strayed too far away from Blues Rock, this album feels very much like the band paying tribute to the sounds that inspired them all those years ago more than ever. The slow crawls of the music here mixed with Morrison's more swinging vocals make for one of the more thoughtful kickback albums I've ever heard. For most of The Doors music it is very exciting and engaging through its' wild instrumentation and ideas the band throws at the walls but for L.A. Woman it feels so much more thoughtful and subtle with its' choices. The closing track is the perfect way to end off such an interesting and innovative career with Riders on the Storm being a very haunting finale to one of the best band's of its' time. This is a weird album to "end" on and while I may not be crazy about it, I can still appreciate the art the band brought to the table and paid homage with so beautifully.

Love riders on the storm but the others im not fully fussed about, good background music anyway.

last song reminded me of need for speed 2 video game I used to play a ton

Not their best but still very good. Very bassy bluesy sound. L'America has a creepy holloween vibe for real that has unfortunately aged well. And how can you deny the epic LA Woman and Riders on the Storm? Solid record but not what I would put on this list to represent the band.

Another dramatic rock album from the theatrical 70s.

morrison sounds less like a hungry 20 something trying to prove his worth as a writer and more like a hungry 20 something trying to get his hands on a big 'ol bucket of chicken

Had heard some of the songs before, but hadn't realized how much the blues influenced their sound. Some classics, but not totally to my taste.

Just okay. Some songs I already knew and liked mixed with generic filler.

I’ve never really been a Doors fan.

Gøy, the doors er absolutt kult, litt overvurdert

L.A Woman is a great Rock/Blues album. I like how the album is put together, going from the lighter themes into the more dark ones, and then back again.. The way that the albums sound in general made me feel like I was attending a live concert, amazed me multiple times. Great sound, a bit weird sometimes, but great, therefore a 3,5.

It's fine, definitely doesn't compete with their earlier stuff though.

A solid bluesy album, with psych rock and folk tones. Definitely a good album for a road trip or late night drive.

Buen álbum, a destacar la última canción

Iconic band with a couple of hits on here. Good listen overall, but didn’t dig much deeper than that.

Love her madly ist großartig

Coole Ansätze. Hinten heraus fehlt mir aber was. 3-3,5 / 5

Love The Doors, some classic songs on this album. Tendency to jam just to the bring of annoying and then started singing again. Texas radio song is kinda off and not my thing

This was the first album the generator threw at me — and one I actually know. It used to be in my dad’s record collection. It takes me back to a short phase when I was about eighteen, around 1997, when I listened to The Doors a lot. The trigger was Oliver Stone’s The Doors movie, which I thought was absolutely mind-blowing back then. I tried watching it again in my mid-twenties with my girlfriend at the time — it didn’t age well. In fact, it felt almost embarrassing, and she hated it, which didn’t help. These days I’m pretty indifferent toward The Doors, but I’ve always preferred their later stuff — like this album — to the earlier, more organ-heavy songs. Jim Morrison’s voice already sounds a bit worn here, which somehow makes it better. It’s solid rhythm & blues, relaxed and raw. “L.A. Woman” is my favorite Doors track. I think it also plays over the end credits of the movie, after Morrison’s already six feet under. There’s something effortlessly cool about it — the band sounds so loose and confident. Speaking of movies, I recently rediscovered another great Doors track, “Peace Frog,” in Licorice Pizza — shame it’s not on this record. The album closes with “Riders on the Storm,” which is, of course, an excellent song. That rain sound was perfect teenage soundtrack material — especially if you were lying in bed with your girlfriend. All in all, it’s a good record, but not an essential one for me.

I’ve always felt the Doors were overrated, the music is just ok. But there are some classics here so I’ll give it a solid 3

Riders is absolutely brilliant, but the rest? Some right plodders in there.

I’m pretty averse to the Doors, but you know what? With an open mind and as little prejudice as I could give it, this one is pretty cool. Band sounds great at times, and Morrison sounds like a guy who is on his last legs. Sad, but also sort of compelling.

Not necessarily bad, but I don't see myself listening to it again.

I like the doors. Especially when it's not the overplayed keyboard driven psychedelic stuff that I used to always hear on the radio.

Good album, has their best song in my opinion "Riders on the Storm"

This album oozes cool. Liked how the songs seemed to turn into jam sessions. Favorite Song(s): Love Her Madly, LA Woman

Some great songs - and way more pure blues than I expected. But doesn’t quite rise to 4 stars for me.

Riders on the Storm saves this album. Not my fave Doors.

Very bluesy. First track reminds me of Funky Town. Did not enjoy this as much as their other works but has a couple bangers

It's a good album, but it's not spectacular. There are albums with better songs. Although L.A. Woman is definitely worth checking out.

This album was alright, self titled sounded like peanuts

Not bad, not great...

The Good: We love it, I love L.A.! The Bad: Oh wait, that is a different song… The Ugly: Accidentally watching the Billy Idol cover video… What’s there to say… I love several of the songs on this album. And the closer, well, the closer has a special spot in my heart as it belonged to a mix-tape a buddy of mine made for me while I was in college… I can vividly recall driving in the rain, listening to Riders On The Storm, while all just made perfect sense… Yet, this album, I had never listened to… and though, again, there are several songs on here that I absolutely LOVE and can listen to on a weekly basis, there’s some filler on there that just made me want to hit the skip button… and that is never the sign of a 5* album, nor a 4* one… So, this one’s down the middle… sad really...

Not my gig, but a classic.

A mix of 3’s and 4’s

The Doors are fine, aren’t they?

While this may not have the highs of The Doors' self titled album, I think this may be more consistent. Unfortunately, even a Riders On The Storm or an L.A. Woman doesn't quite reach the level of a Break On Through or a The End But however you cut it, this is still an album that captures the doors at the approximate peak of their abilities. Interestingly enough this means that The Doors were operating at their strongest at only the start and end of the Jim Morrison era. And Morrison was pretty much falling apart at this point: breakdowns, legal troubles, substance abuse, the rock and roll classics. And I will say that I'm at least glad he was able to put a strong, dignifying bookend on his life and career. The material itself here, as I mentioned, is generally strong, and quite a but more even than The Self-Titled, in many ways. The Self-Titled's best was better and it's worst was worse. And it's general tone was lighter, but something like The End is the kind of dark that L.A. Woman doesn't even really aspire to achieve. Conversely, L.A. Woman's tone is a consistent moodiness, and it maintains a level of engaging quality throughout, even though I could probably live if one of the less important songs here was cut. Perhaps not as intriguing as The Doors' more daring, earlier works, this still features great writing, and remarkable performances from Morrison. And Riders On The Storm serves as a very strong end to Morrison's career: with it's foggy, mysterious atmosphere, it cements this album as worth a listen.

Riders of the storm 🔝 no esta mal, pero tienen mejores álbumes

Lot of blues rock riffing but a couple of good songs. 2.5

I still prefer the Billy Idol cover of the title track but this one is good too, and overall as a "put it on and do stuff" album it's really solid. I have a lot of love for Riders on the Storm and no clue where it comes from?

Pretty good but slightly forgettable

Idk, it’s got a nice atmosphere most of the time. Not great, not terrible.

The Doors, Because We Couldn't Let White British Twats Have a Monopoly on Stealing the Blues from Black People. ...and yet, I still like much of this album. It's probably just rank nostalgia, but there's some songs I really enjoy, especially Hyacinth House and Riders on the Storm. Sorry, Jason.

It’s got Hyacinth House and Riders on the Storm and I really like both of those. When they start blues jamming, I lose interest quickly.

fine. 3.5

It‘s hard to argue against the big hits of the album. "Riders On The Storm" is a soothing, hypnotic song, the title track is wonderfully ecstatic, and "The Changeling" is a personal favourite. But overall, the blues nature of the deep cuts fade into the realms of forgetfulness pretty fast. You can hear Jim Morrison drifting off into madness, which is fascinating, but not an overall pleasant listen.

(71/100)

There were some high points but overall a bit of a mixed bag, really. Especially the song with the generic blues riff that sounded like a 45rpm played at 33⅓.

bit corny in places and then some undeniable greatness. A hard one to rate.

Decent

the doors seem to go through historical waves and phases where they and their output are received with a consensus of either very positive or very negative feeling. personally, i think "l.a woman" is nothing altogether special; my love for some of those killer guitar riffs was tempered by how staid, unremarkable, and beige i otherwise found the experience. highlight: been down so long

3.5 stars

Nice album but only really knew riders on the storm. The other songs were alright but didn’t feel like anything special

I have listened to this album serveral times, and never could appreciate it. Everytime I wondered if I was missing the point of the album, but I guess that blues is just not my thing. However, its not like I despise it. Theres some really cool moments, like the build up in 'L.A. Woman', the kind of intense atmosphere of "L'America" and the catchy chorus of 'The WASP'. Unfortunately, not an album that I can say that I enjoyed. I feel very neutral about it, but thanks to liking some elements of it, I can at least give it 3 stars.

Woozy and hazy and evocative. Im not sure i agree with Morrisons genius, but it certainly is fun.

nice enough

Pretty solid album. Definitely not my favorite doors album. But, there are some classic throughout

First time listening to the Doors. Was solid, nothing that blew me away though, very bluesy. Only song I didn't like was l'America, everything else was pretty good. Favorite song: Riders of the storm Overall I'd give it a 6.5/10

Another Doors album straight after the last. This is definitely stronger than Morrison Hotel. But still sounds a bit flat and one note in places. Standard blues rock. Riders of the Storm deserves sone credit but it’s still failed to convince me about this band.

I like the Doors but not all of this hits the same highs as Riders on the Storm which is majestic.

Added to Library: Love Her Madly Been down so Long Hyacinth House LA Woman Riders on the Storm

Not a massive fan but fine

Pretty good mix of Blues and Rock N'Roll.

3/5 - again it was an alright, album, I added a few songs to my playlists, but nothing fully stood out to me or made me view as a life changing album! It was just alright, it was okay.

A few good songs but not the best stuff

Mucho más bluesy que el otro disco de The Doors (The Doors) que había escuchado. Y creo que primera vez que me gusta más la canción más conocida de un disco (Riders on the Storm)

This kind of rock isn't exactly my vibe. Some of the songs are fun, but damn do rock bands like guitar solos 🙃

Pretty average stuff to me, though the album still had its moments. That one part in “Cars Hiss By My Window” where Jim Morrison does a vocal guitar solo was really cool to me. “Riders of the Storm” is a psychedelic nightmare. It was the only song I knew off this album beforehand, and it was definitely my favorite.

it was okay, kinda boring and repetitive, nothing stood out to me

Great!

A bit psychadelic for me but gets 3 stars for Riders On The Storm.

Outside of the singles it was a bit jazzier/funkier than I expected. Still pretty good.

I liked it ! some classics and then some funky stuff

I like them in general, this album was just ok though.

I've never really liked The Doors. I think they're really overrated in rock history, dont see the huge appeal in Jim Morrison's cringy poetry or their pretty standard blues rock arrangements, it all just kind of bores me. But this is an alright album, i like the title track, and Riders On The Storm is cool, I like its trippy grooves and keyboard

1. The Changeling - 6 Decent track with a good sound. Drums are very enjoyable on this track. Lyrics are... odd. Not bad, not great, just a little odd. Bridge is a really big highlight of the song. Overall, a decent track. 2. Love Her Madly - 7 Lyrically a better track than The Changeling. Overall it sounds great and it a really fun track. 3. Been Down So Long - 8 Lyrically very enjoyable with an awesome guitar solo in the middle of the track. The beat/pace set by the guitar riffs, bass, and drums are excellent and guide the track magnificently. 4. Cars Hiss by My Window - 3 Lyrically not anything fantastic and vocally I could do without the outro, which very unpleasant sounding. Instrumentally it's a much slower song, meaning the vocals have a lot more weight on the track than on others. 5. L.A. Woman - 11 Brilliant track. It's just so much fun to listen to. Lyrically fantastic, instrumentally addicting, this track has everything you'd want in a classic 70s rock song. 6. L'America - 1 Track is way too all over the place. Instrumentally it's just not enjoyable but lyrically it's horrible. Tempo changes about 3 times throughout the song and it's just so hard to get into the groove of it. 7. Hyacinth House - 6 Decent song. Nothing phenomenal about it to rave about but a solid album track. 8. Crawling King Snake - 7 Track gets better as you get further into it. Opening is a bit weak but overall it's not a bad track at all. Very enjoyable. 9. The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat) - 1 Absolutely dreadful track. Pace is not enjoyable and neither are the lyrics. Album could have done better without this on it. 10. Riders on the Storm - 11 An all time classic. Brilliant track with amazing vocals and a really enjoyable set of instrumentals including some absolutely stellar solos. Superb ending to the album. Average Rating: 6.1 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 3.05 Rounded Down: 3 Stars

There are some absolute bangers on this track, but at the end of the day they took a bunch of songs off, full stop. You can’t look me in the eyes and tell me that there is anything of merit to Cars Hiss By My Window. There’s a lot of good but a lot of bad here too. Evens out to a three.

5.5/10

Favorite Doors album

I've got all The Doors albums on vinyl like, I imagine, every other 30-something that collects vinyl. If you call yourself a vinyl collector, a bearded ex-hippie magically appears and gives you a copy of Frampton Comes Alive and Waiting For The Sun (and/or their eponymous album) that are scratched to hell. You won't be able to get rid of them. They are your burden for wanting music on an analog format. I like The Doors, but my interest in The Doors has waned over the years, with my peak interest being around age 19 or 20. One time I had friends come over and I had each of them go through my vinyl collection and pick an album. We'd play everyone's picks while we talked and hung out. This one guy I know picked Morrison Hotel. It was a bummer. Changed the whole vibe. We all listened out of politeness, but the room was disinterested and anxious, like they were experiencing the musical equivalent of being at a party and being trapped by a guy who is explaining in detail his frisbee golf league, who stops talking only to take some whippits. There's some entertainment to be derived, but there is certainly something more entertaining somewhere else. But then I listen to L.A. Woman and get to "Love Her Madly", which absolutely rules. It has so many musical parts strong enough to support a whole song, and yet they've been effortlessly sewn together into an interesting structure. Great song. Listened on Tidal.

Some of the songs had really good background music vibes. I have very fond memories since Radek cooked shirtless for me while this album played. Lucky me.

Haven't listened to a lot of The Doors -- was a bluesier than I expected (not bad).

Less psychedelic and more blues then the debut. But it still slaps

This would be a 2 star album if Riders on the Storm wasn't an all time great.

3 good songs,rest are ok. 3 stars

God, men overrated. Ellers er det mye intetsigende blues-synsing; lyden av et band på autopilot. The Doors har vært definerende for generasjoner av outsider kids, men det er en grunn til at jeg bare hørte på debuten og Strange Days da jeg feis rundt og røykte bønne.

Listenable

As much as I was not in the mood to listen to the doors this morning, this a good album. I’ll never understand why they have bass on the records but no bass player in the band. I know everyone celebrates Jim Morrison, but looking back now I can’t help but wonder if the Doors were just great musicians with a really weird frontman. 🤣 L’America sounds like noise. And I normally like noise.

Ujevnt

Dårlig blues, dårlig vokal, bra orgel

No es superior a Hotel, en ningún aspecto. Pero bueno, no es malo. LA Woman destacable. Nota: 2.7

Certainly has a vibe but kinda forgettable except for a few choice songs

No private session used for Spotify. I am not old enough to remember the Doors in the their original glory, but old enough to remember when everyone became a Doors fan because of the Stone's movie about the Doors, which got to be a bit much a left a negative feeling with me about them. I used to listen the radio at night when I was a kid, trying to fall asleep and Riders of the Storm used to scare the hell out me. Right, back to this album, it's got some great Doors classics, including the one that terrified me, some songs that seem like filler, but its got enough interesting music to make it good.

People love to debate if Jim Morrison was really a poet or just a drunk, but in my opinion it’s a distinction without a difference. All artists fake it till they make it, and without Morrison’s savage mystic American Rasputin act, the doors don’t sound (to me) like much more than a solid bar band with unique keyboards. Whether or not the lyrics are actually meaningful is besides the point. Through mystique and bravado, Morrison made the doors themselves meaningful. All that said I’m not a fan of this album. Feels like a slightly toned down version of Jim, and I need him to go full psycho or I’m just not that into their tinny, carnivalesque version of the blues.

Just like with Ray Manzarik's distinctive keyboard, I don't know how to take The Doors seriously. For every fantastic realization of a good idea there's another close behind that falls flat due to Morrison's posturing, Manzarik's noodling, or some other decision that leaves me scratching my head. At least on the last track on the last album before Morrison's exit it all fit together.

🦎 Tolerable feral desert raccoon vibes.

I'd listen to this one if I wanted to hear The Doors

Classic, but definitely some of the songs are lack luster.

average band, don't understand the hype, might be a generational thing

Like eh

This was okay. Love Her Madley came off this album which is great but I'm not into the more bluesy sound.

I have always struggled a bit with the Doors. I can certainly appreciate them, but even the big hits never really connected with me and I’m not sure why. Same thing with the big ones on this album, and some of the other stuff was pretty forgettable (looking at you, blues numbers)

The hits (Riders on the Storm, LA Woman, Love Her Madly) all absolutely rip. A couple deeper cuts like Hyacinth House hit too but the other stuff leaves a little to be desired. This is probably their next project after the debut album but it's really only a 3.5.

As The Doors made more music it got darker. Maybe it was the fact the 60’s has turned into the 70’s. Maybe is the fact that they’d found fame. Maybe it was the heavy use of drugs and alcohol. Regardless, it happened. And as the last studio album released while lead singer Jim Morrison was alive, it’s the underlying theme of this record. “Love Her Madly” and “Riders on the Storm” are standouts.

This is the last Doors album with Jim Morrison, and in my opinion there is no Doors without Morrison. The two longest tracks on this record are the best (L.A. Woman and Riders on the Storm). Love Her Madly also was a single. The rest of the songs are heavy into the blues. Overall a good album but not quite four stars.

This was a lot more bluesy than I expected. I liked the wordplay in L'America, and Riders on the Storm is a great song. The rest didn't stand out.

Like with a lot of other bands from this era, I like the “deep cuts“ better than the singles that have been played to death on classic rock radio. I can’t say that that is making me into a fan, though.

It’s fine. Nice bluesy rock album. I personally think Jim Morrisons legacy is bigger than his music. I could only envision him being propped up behind a mic and blurting out his ramblings. Then he would leave to go on killing himself. Sad really 5.6

Jim Morrison says goodbye with one of his best songs. The rest of the album was meh 3/5

Not that great

Much as I dislike Mr Mojo Risin, I do like a few Doors albums. This one isn’t their best, but it’s not their worst either. I love the blues influence on this album and most of the songs. I do think the album lacks cohesion but it’s consistently decent. Jim’s voice sounds better than ever with that whisky and nicotine stained growl, and Robbie’s blues guitar is light and subtle. I also love the sinister whisper behind his lyrics on Riders on the Storm. Creepy as fuck but really cool. The album isn’t perfect but it is decent. The roughness of JM’s vocals marks a move away from his pretentious posturing on previous albums.

so much more lethargic and downtrodden than a lot of the earlier stuff i love. still an inherent magic to what these guys get up to, but more of a slog.

I think any Doors album itself would be a 3/5 with a greatest hits making it to 4/5.

Fun but I've listened to most of these songs a ton. I'm sure with fresh ears it would stand out more to me, will say I'm still a big fan of Jim's insane yelping.

Not my style

Need to listen again bc none of the songs called out to me but loved the jazzy last one

I enjoyed the instrumentation but found the lyrics lacking in depth

riders on the storm reminds me of being a kid listening to the car radio with my dad but otherwise the rest of the album wasn’t so much my jam

The doors sound great when they steal other people’s music

The opening track The Changeling reminds of Funky Town

The Doors are a little divisive for me. They have some of thr most boring bluesy rock songs ever, but then some of them are amazing. I like their songs that dive into psych rock a little better but this album only has one of those.

Nothing really special about this band. Very stereotypical rock kinda deal, a little boring, but not bad.

The Lord is testing me once again on this journey, this time because I disparaged rock organ in a recent review. This gets a 3 on the strength of the singles alone, otherwise it's a 2-2.5 in my heart. I hate pretentious white man blues.

Guarantee you The Doors loved Booker T. & the M.G.'s. I like The Doors more than I thought. Love Her Madly is good. L.A. Woman has its moments too. Mr Mojo Risin is the coolest acronym of anyone's name, I will give Morrison that. I would make everyone call me that instead of the Lizard King. Not loving every song on this album though. The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat) is awful. It highlights all of the things I hate about The Doors. Jim Morrison sounding overly serious while he spouts nonsense lyrics and overuse of the organ. Overuse of the Organ sounds like a Limp Bizkit album. Many people love Riders on the Storm. I am not one of them. It's fine.

I have never really been a fan of the Doors but I love the song LA Woman ... so I will compromise at three stars.

Classic album, album cover, and band. Everyone knows the title track and all the covers of it. Throw in "Love Her Madly", "Riders On The Storm" and glue tracks like "The WASP", "Crawling King Snake", "Been Down So Long" and "The Changeling" and you have a solid album. Can't say I've ever listened to it from top to bottom. Favorite new track, "Cars Hiss By My Window". "L'America" sucks. Top 1001? Not for me but a extremely respectable release with songs that are still very popular on rock radio. 3.5 stars, the overall vibe of the album is so chill it takes away from the rating.

No new standouts

This was cool, listened on my way from work, I liked la’America

Good bluesy rock

Again it's okay, doesn't grab me

This album has a lot of totally fine songs but that's all most of them are. Yeah, there are a couple of greats on there, but it just isn't consistent enough for me to think it's a classic to the extent many people seem to. 3*

I was never a huge a fan of Jim Morrison, but can’t deny they had a good groove. As an album, it’s cohesive and flows nicely but a few songs drag, not just the longer ones. The suburban blues lyrics didn't speak to me but the singing was good, if a bit passionless. I prefer their more composed, poppy music ("Love Her Madly") and never really got on with Riders on the Storm. Strong 6.5/10

ok so the doors are certainly rly indflucencial but i dont vibe with blues rock that much 3/5

Two songs that I knew, the other songs sort of mixed together after a while. 3/5

-alright second album i’ve heard from The Doors… reminds me of their debut in a lot of ways in terms of the blues rock sound -i liked it. Jim Morrison has a cool ass voice and there are a lot of more subtle touches (such as the keyboards) that deserve appreciation too -Favorites are Love Her Madly, L.A. Woman, and Riders on the Storm

Some good songs, some bad songs. The Black Keys of the 70s? Jim does have an iconic voice and Riders on the Storm is quite the tune.

jammin!

I always thought this was a psychedelic album. Really more of a blues record.

Never listened to this whole album, despite being a big Doors fan (many moons ago). It's... okay lol. Riders on the Storm is such a bop tho

Classic doors. Spooky vibes

This doesn’t feel like their best album, thus making its inclusion on this list perplexing to me. I think they do better in their psychedelic bag than this country bluesy sound. Riders in the storm is atmospheric and cool. LA woman is groovy. I didn’t like Love Her Madly lol

There are a few good tracks on here, but by the end, it felt like a lot of the songs just blended together. Best songs: Riders on the Storm, Love Her Madly, The Changeling

Didn't do much for me, apart from the last song.

High point: "LA Woman" and "Riders on the Storm" are great and justly famous, but the real hidden gem here is "The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)". Jim's psychedelic rap supported by the band in full acid mode. Awesome stuff. Low point: "Cars Hiss By My Window" is kind of phoned-in. Not a bad song, just not a lot of effort there, and it overstays its welcome.

The Doors has never been my favorite band, but L.A. Woman and Riders on the storm are still great.

6/10 Enjoyable in parts, but it has the issue I have with a lot of the Doors stuff, which is I'm not sure they are very good. It's the kind of music I kind of like, but it lacks any Oomph. They don't seem too bothered and it's hard to generate any enthusiasm when the band sound bored.

It's good. They have 3 albums on the list. This is the 3rd one I got. Like their other albums, it has some great songs and some not so great songs. I think 3 the Doors albums is too many. They're too similar. A Best Of would have been great instead, but that's against the rules of the book. Favorite song: Hyacinth House.

Zuhause, Heidenheim, Deutschland Ganz okay, aber auf Albumlänge nervig

Good overall, mainly one very good song: riders of the storm. Maybe would put 3.5 if I could. Not my favourite

Some good stuff, some old psychedelic style I don't really like

This was fine. I liked the last song in the album but I think that’s a popular one. It was too blue-sy for me.

This album is best experienced in its entirety. Even though it's not as good as other classic albums. "L.A. Woman" has some excellent bass work. It's a shame that this album is Jim Morrison's last before his death. I wonder if I'll get another great album this time. 3 stars for "L.A. Woman".

First track reminds me of funky town (shrek). Sure I've heard a cover of 'love her madly' Love the slow one, cars hiss by my window (apart from the weird singing) Looong songs

3 - It was kinda nice, kinda not terrible but I just don't know if I get the doors. One day maybe

Oh LA woman, the weakest doors album yet still pulls out Riders on the Storm, Love her Madly, Crawling King Snake and LA Woman. The doors are an interesting band. The first two albums were just stacked, just absolutely ridiculous, then the farther you get from there the quality drops off yet is still listenable. LA woman is a fine album to put and an listen to. The band is great, Morrisons lyrics are the weakest here while still able to pull out greatness here and there.

top songs: riders on the storm, hyacinth house, love her madly, L.A woman a solid album but not as good as their debut album

One of the Doors weaker albums.

No idea what's wrong with me today, have rated 6 albums (needed to catch up) all of them 2 or 3 stars. Aside from a few songs this is mostly forgettable for me, it's not The Doors' best album either. I really thought I'd love this but it's not hitting it

At first no, then maybe? The Doors are such a strange band. The years of hype and the actual music are hard to separate. Really feels like the greatest hits made them seem way better than they are. The Dumb Velvet Underground seems fair.

The Riffs sound feminine, the vocals sound gritty.

There is quite a mix here. It's a very blues-heavy record, a bit too much for my taste. Some good tracks, some filler, and, of course, Riders on the Storm.

I would not have known this was The Doors if it wasn’t for the hits. Jim Morrison does not sound like himself. The band sound tight but, other than the aforementioned hits, this edges too close to standard white men playing the blues for me

A decent album. The obvious highlight is "Riders on the Storm" which happens to be one of my favorite songs of all time. "L.A. Woman" is also a pretty good song. The rest of the album is just decent. I'm a little disappointed, I had higher hopes for this album, but it ended up being pretty middle of the road, since 2 great songs don't really make up for the other 8.

the albums haven't been doing it for me lately but this was cool

I enjoyed this one, the blues elements are cool, it's not an album I'm desperate to return to though.

I didn’t know The Doors other than the name. They sit just on the right side in terms of experimental blues/rock for the era, but occasionally it gets a bit too weird (L’America). It has a compelling beat/sound throughout but I didn’t necessarily get any deeper resonance with the songs, they’re just decent tracks.

Never really bothered with The Doors, so only know their more famous songs. I personally didn’t get much from this album, but it’s perfectly listenable with a few good tracks. Just not really for me I guess.

Sawright

This is another case of “how much can a few songs carry a whole album”. This may be a controversial opinion but I think the vast majority of this album is filler. There’s like 3-4 songs on this album that are good. Two of those 3-4 songs are spectacular, but ultimately I feel like this album is a slog to get through. It pays you for getting to the end with the best song, but you do have to earn it. Sadly this album was kind of a let down.

Influenced a lot more by the blues than I was expecting.

Liked it less than the other doors album

I wouldn’t exactly call the genre for this album rock. It’s more blues than anything else. However, I like this sound for The Doors. I did find some of the songs to sound a little bit same-y after a bit. Riders on the Storm is, of course, a classic, and there a few other really good hidden gems in this album. It’s solid, but not my favorite of what The Doors have to offer.

Much of what I said about their debut album applies here, too. Putting the two together, I conclude that The Doors are the textbook archetype for justifying the need for a "Greatest Hits" album. Glad that that was my initial experience with them and not these individual albums, which are islands of hits in seas of calm meh to choppy ugh. Even so, this is still far better than most other entries on this list, and fillers aside, the hits do hold some personal nostalgia for me. I'd say this is a 3.5; so, since I gave their debut a 4, I'll give this a 3 and call it even.

This was better than the first doors album we had. But I’m still not into it.

Not their best.

Ну прикольно че

I like a few tracks but not all.

sounds a lot like the doors TBF....not for me. Riders on the storm is good though.

Very bluesy and stripped down. Excellent vocals. Not my personal taste, but I can respect the craft that went into the project.

It’s an exceptional voice backed by lackluster instrumentals, less than exciting melodies, and decent lyricism. Formative, yet ehh.

The Doors are very hit and miss for me.

Phenomenal…or filler.

Man, when The Doors hit, the really hit. But everything else is pretty out there for me.

I wouldn't turn it off, but in my opinion not the best doors album.

Another solid album from The Doors, that focuses more on the style of the blues. Their hits really stand out here, but the rest are a bit too inconsistent. They tend to jump between enjoyable to droning track to track.

One of The Doors' better efforts, I think, which just shows they're a low-ceiling band. The title track is the best thing on offer here, as a propulsive, electric mission statement.

Solid 3 star

3.5 , really solid album but not the best by the doors

Felt like everything 70s rock stands for in my head canon. Could easily slip into a guardians of the galaxy movie. Sadly nothing special. Do love me some good organ though. 3 stars.

Decent album, a few really solid songs mixed with pure garbage like L'America.

Grand. First song the highlight

I can see the quality but not for me

- Good start to the album, loved The Changeling and Love Her Madly - Been down so Long felt like background pub music - Songs feel very country, not my vibe - L’America is a lil better - The WASP was… eh, poor choice of words - Riders on the Storm was my personal favorite, good ending to this album - Can appreciate The Doors’ impact on rock and roll, album is not all bad - Overall 3/5

First Doors album I’ve listened to from start to finish. Riders on the Storm is the obvious classic that listeners will recognize. I felt the rest of the album differed from that sound drastically. There’s a clear inspiration from early blues both lyrically and musically. For me personally, hyacinth house was the track I gravitated to the most. I would need to listen some more to really dig in deeper but overall I liked it and can see where it has been influential. 7/10

I didn't really know any of these, but I enjoy just having them on in the background.

This album is very hit and miss. Granted, when it hits, it hits real good with absolute bangers like LA woman, Riders on the storm and The Changeling. However, my active dislike for the failed attempt at being experimental in L'America loses the album a star.

Blues rock. Some good instrumental moments, but overall a little forgettable. Riders on the Storm is great, but it’s unfortunately the outlier from the rest of the album.

I honestly forgot that I still had another Doors album awaiting me. I gave four stars to Morrison Hotel and five stars to their self-titled album, so I have decently high expectations for this album. Looking at the track list, I’m familiar with the title track and “Riders on the Storm,” but these other songs will all be new for me. Let’s take a journey with Jim Morrison and company! L.A. Woman was fine overall, but it will definitely be my least favorite Doors album that I’ve reviewed. I’ll admit that I’m not a big fan of blues rock, and this album only reinforced my feelings towards the genre. However, there were a couple of really bright spots on this album. As luck would have it, “L.A. Woman” and “Riders on the Storm” were my favorite songs on the album. I really enjoy Jim Morrison’s vocals, and I liked how his voice created such a vivid atmosphere on those two songs, especially on “Riders on the Storm.” I tend to enjoy songs by the Doors that lean more into psychedelic rock, and even though this album didn’t rely on those psychedelic sounds as much, those two songs leaned on that element a bit more, with great results. I enjoyed “Love Her Madly” as well, which I had completely forgotten that I knew. “Love Her Madly” did the best job of blending blues and psychedelic elements, and I thought the piano and guitar playing melded together really well. The rest of the album was fine, but outside of my two favorite songs, there wasn’t a whole lot that I enjoyed from a musical aspect. I thought the guitar playing was pretty bland, and I would have loved more keyboards and organ playing, Just like on Morrison Hotel, some of the lyrics on this album were too weird for my taste. “Crawling King Snake” reminded me too much of the whole ‘Lizard King’ thing of Morrison’s that I absolutely despise, and “The WASP” was a little too out there for me as well. I don’t think this is an album I’d revisit, but I certainly won’t ever skip over “Riders on the Storm."

Instantly recognisable as a 70s album and I enjoyed it overall. Couple of tracks even I recognised and would play again

I really liked the bluesy tracks on this album which began with 'Been Down So Long' and was a recurring theme throughout. The production quality is excellent, great isolation but still giving the feel of a live performance. Things got a bit weird with 'L'America' in a way that I've come to expect from the doors and I'm never quite sure I really enjoy. The album finishes with "Riders on the Storm" which is a really cool track and further cements my opinion of the Doors as a band that lurches from cool to weird and back again. A decent album but not one that I'll return to.

The lyrics were a bit redundant and kind of weak. There was not much variety in sound. Overall, it was decent.

Really joyed the musical arrangements and strong blues influence, with strong vocalists. Yet lyrically similar to that of a drunken redneck.

the changeling- 5 lover her madly- 5 been down so long- 5 cars hiss by my window- 6 l.a. woman- 5 l'america- 5 or 6 hyacinth house- 6 crawling king snake- 5 wasp- 5 riders on the storm- 5

I preferred The Doors, this is still a great album though

jag har lite svårt för hans röst

really good , 3.5

Rating: 3/5 | Favorite Track: L.A. Woman --- I love the psychedelic tracks from the Doors, not so much the blues rock. Not a bad album, but not one I will return to often.

Old school rock, kinda vibey!

It was ok - a bit samey, and by the end of it (Despite it being Riders on the storm) I was bored of Jim Morrison's voice.

If I was told that I only had 24 hours to live, I would put this album on repeat for that last day so that it could feel like a longer time.

I've never considered myself much of a Doors fan. Morrison's vocals have never exactly impressed me, although they do seem to compliment their untamed, blues-driven style on this album. The hallmark organ work is undeniably prominent (bordering on overpowering), but it also gives the record a unique, hypnotic energy. There's a looseness to it, like they knew it was their last ride with Morrison. And Riders on the Storm feels like an eerie, almost cinematic farewell.

I liked the organs and bluesy guitars a lot. At first listen, I thought it was a decent album but not my favorite. Maybe it will grow on me with future listens. Favorite Song: Hyacinth House

***An ok album

Two of the greatest Rock songs are on this album, but other than them, not much else. I expected better given the artist. Favorite Track: "Riders On The Storm".

Nice, but the tracks are sometimes very similar, sounds like a forever looping.

One fantastic, ethereal track in Riders On The Storm - an extraordinary well written, performed and produced masterpiece. Most of the remainder, however, does little to replicate this - while the technicality doesn't drop off, the formulaic blues structure very much does lose it's magic after 5/6 songs. Best Tracks: - Riders On The Storm - L.A. Woman - The Changeling Worst Tracks: - Hyacinth House - Crawling King Snake - The Wasp (Texas Radio and the Big Beat) Rating: 6/10

I'll start by stating the obvious: "Riders on the Storm" is a legendary track. It's ominous, it's threatening, it's mysterious, it's cool. And it stands head and shoulders about any other track on this album. Not that the rest of the songs are bad, not at all. They lean very heavily into the blues, which I'm admittedly not the biggest fan of, but they have elements that make them more interesting. The guitar solo on "The Changeling" sounds otherworldly. There's a lot of organ action on "Love Her Madly". It's a solid album for sure, but not something I'd put on and actively listen to, save the last track. Fav tracks: The Changeling, Love Her Madly, Riders on the Storm

I can hear the drugs

🤘 loved “changes”

Bluesy and fairly catchy. Some excellent guitar solos. Jim Morrison sounds like a pirate which is funny if nothing else. Standout track is: “Been Down So Long” and “Hyacinth House”

Love the keyboard throughout. That's certainly the highlight. Riders on the Storm was a good one to listen to on this rainy day. This one veered toward 3.5 at times, but it kind of came and went most other times.

The Doors is one of those groups that bounces back and forth between cool and lame to me. Riders On The Storm will always be a 10/10 banger for me though.

A classic in Blues Rock

The highlights of this album can be found on any Doors greatest hits: the rocking "Love Her Madly," the fast-moving and epic "L.A. Woman," and the simmering and jazzy "Riders on the Storm." The rest of the album is pretty straightforward blues rock with some psychedelic rock mixed in. 3.5

The 1001 albums don’t pass the bechtel test. Still enjoyed this album though

Lizard King 3.5

i don't get their appeal and i refuse to

Pretty cool. Highlights include: “The Changeling” “Cars Hiss by My Window” “L.A. Woman” “The Wasp (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)”

honestly i think jim morrison is kinda stupid as hell and i hate this kinda music ... i dont think time will reflect well on the doors

Geez, I don't know. Pretty good, but bangs on a bit. Make sure your don't listen to the 50th anniversary deluxe edition with the 20+ minute session versions of tracks. Thought I was having flashbacks. Whew. Three stars.

die "Riders" haben es halbwegs rausgerissen, sonst ganz ok

Probably would not listen again but I recognize this is objectively pretty good ; favorite song is probably been down so long; maybe i just don’t like the doors? Low 3

Some cool stuff and some not so cool stuff. Not a huge doors guy but respect it 3.45

Riders on the Storm is an absolute classic. Everything else is okay.

LA woman is one of the few doors songs I actually think is great. L’america really sucks

- The Doors may be the one exception to my general distaste for keyboards in rock music. For some reason, they add to the overall tone rather than making it feel dated. - Not overly impressed with Morrison's lyrics on this one, but the raw nature of his voice is still engrossing. And saying "goddamn" on a super popular album from 1971 shows some balls. - Highs and lows on here, but I never see myself seeking this out for another listen.

To me, this album represents ‘the end of the beginning’ of Rock and Roll as a genre. It’s incredibly interesting that I’m listening to this the day *after* listening to *Electric Warrior *by T. Rex. That album appeared just a few months after this one, and Marc Bolan is credited with pushing glam rock onto the scene with his television appearances on *Top of the Pops* which occurred just a couple months before this album was released (and a few months after it would have been recorded). *Funkytown*, also released in the fall of 1971, seemingly takes clear inspiration from *The Changeling* and was part of the first wave of the 70s disco music craze. The tragically sudden demise of *The Doors* right at the beginning of the 70s and the heavy blues influence on their music and this album specifically make them a bit of a convenient example of the transition from blues to clean 1960s rock to what would come in the 70s. This album is contemporary with and inspirational for ideas that we now think of as definitively “70s,” but also has some strong markings of music that came from the 30s and 40s, while the more straightforward songs are as middle-of-the-road as you get with rock music.

Songs are very long!

The clustering of this list is so weird sometime. This album was solid enough for a 3 for sure. Had a few songs I really like so I’m tempted to go to a 4 but maybe it’s the fatigue of listening to the same band. I got my fix on the last album and while I enjoyed parts of this I got lost at parts. I don’t smoke weed anymore so I’m plenty aware of when a song lasts longer than 5 minutes. High 3 low 4.

I like the general style, and I recognized a few of the songs from movies or TV series. But nothing came out of the album that would make me give it higher than a 3.

I'm completely ignorant to the history surrounding The Doors and how Jim Morrison became known as 'The Lizard King,' but if I had to guess, if he didn't already have the nickname then he got in during this era of his life. This album has some solid blues vibes and isn't a bad listen at all, but it doesn't live up to the hype The Doors always seem to get. I'll give it a three just because Riders on the Storm is such a legendary song.

Not bad, but it's a lot slower than the last album we listened to by The Doors. I really like "Riders on the Storm", but by the time we got to it as the last song on the album, I was checked out and over how drawn out and slow everything else had been up to that point.
