Reviews (page 2 of 14)

I'm lying in bed, my blanket is warm. The first words of a book or lines of an album sometimes say enough.

Last Goodbye is a great song. The rest of the album is histrionic (been wanting to use that word in a sentence for a while).

I confess I did not finish the album. I nonetheless feel qualified to say: this sucks. It's like he's doing vibrato and falsetto AT me.

Not for me. Easily forgettable

RRRRRAAHHHHH YEAHH

Gostei bastante já tinha ouvido antes extremamente bom amo ouvir no outono e inverno

9/10 loved the album, his voice is very good. Quite like that it had some softer songs but then some more rockers. Quite like forget her.

I LOVE JEFF BUCKLEY I LOVE JEFF BUCKLEY THIS WAS MY SHIT IN YEAR 3 ANF IT'S MY SHIT NOW 9.2/10 sorry i know in my heart its a 10 but there are a few skips like i dont loveeee lilac wine or hallelujah and i would have to be in quite a specific mood to listen to them, butttttt the rest genuinely make that not count. i don't listen as much as i used to in high school bc i played it to death but i can obviously still appreciate it, even though it annoyed me deeply when it was tiktokified it was clearly for a reason, and in a non glazing way i have to give it so high because he truly influenced so much other stuff that i love, eg. thom york and in rainbows radiohead, and cocteau twins elizabeth fraser, and massive attack too just off the top of my head, still pisses me off that my mum can't remember being barrier for him at glastonbury get it together girl

First time listening to this, and I've got nothing to say but what a fucking album. Solid 6 Stars if that were an option.

It’s a 10. It’s probably much higher. I haven’t had an album leave me stuck with that much silence in my brain for such a long time. I simply could not find the words to tackle this one, because it’s impossible to describe perfection without it sounding like hyperbole. I did not think it was possible for my brain to ever challenge the thought that “Songs in the Key of Life” was the greatest album ever made. Whenever my brain fully clears itself up, given time, it will likely return to that thought. However, in this current moment, this feels like the most potent contender to that throne I’ve ever heard. As I said with “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness”, if “Songs in the Key of Life” represents the breadth of a blessed existence, this album represents the breadth of an anguished one. However, where “Mellon Collie” tackled its songs with a sense of unfixable despair & that titular infinite sadness, this album tackles that anguish with… well, grace. He could be bitter. He’s not. He uses the pain he displays on this album to further himself, to learn from it and to grow from it. Instead of letting his soul die in the flames that could wither so many men, he lets those burns define him in a way that’s musically explored here, to stop other people from making the same mistakes that led to those burns. It is done behind some of the most incredible songwriting I’ve ever heard in my life, along with a power in his voice that feels like it can carry a mountain with ease. Combine that with fantastic instrumentation, and you get a recipe for a masterpiece. It is one of the most musically fulfilling projects I’ve ever heard in my life. I think it’s one of the top 5 albums we’ve gotten so far, and we are 922 albums deep. If it continues to impact me as deeply on any future relistens as it did on a first one, it may very well take that top spot of the greatest album ever made, though it will still take a LOT of time to get there. At the very least, I can confidently say on a first pass that I think this is the greatest studio album of 1994. Emphasis on studio; some people will probably say Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged album is better, and I won’t dispute anyone who does. Both albums are forged in the mythos of death, with that being Kurt Cobain’s last recorded project & this album being Jeff Buckley’s one & only studio album. It’s annoying when death plays such a major factor in an album’s impact, but the perception of losing people that could’ve potentially made culture-defining art will always elevate something, for better or worse. In this case, I think Jeff Buckley still managed to make culture-defining art, given the tree of influence that this album spawned. It’s a 10. It’s probably much, much higher. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to listen to “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over” about 100 more times to get all my tears out. That is one of the greatest tracks ever written.

no one ever left alive in nineteen hundred eighty five will ever do

Such a great album. I've seen this before, but never actually listened to it and I'm regretting that. Vocals are great, sounds a lot like Thom Yorke to me. Music and lyrics are also amazing .

My favourite male vocalist I think. God it sucks what happened to Jeff Buckley, he should still be making music today.

All the feels.

This is one of the greatest things ever made. Always and forever.

A most perfect thing. Then, now and forever.

Absolutely terrific album. I can hear the influence it had on many of my existing favourites. Ahead of its time, this will become a favourite album of mine immediately.

Loved it. Saw a real influence on Perfume Genius etc.

Impeccable

So Real really surprised me, i LOVE that song We all know LYSCO is an absolute classic masterpiece. I like mojo pin as well. This album is surprising me overall a lot more upbeat than i was expecting woah!! Eternal Life!!

its peak

One of my favourite albums so no notes

Eternal Life gave me a little Lenny Kravitz and I'm great with that. This version of Hallelujah wins for me. Saved several tracks. I sincerely wish we had had Mr Buckley around longer. I loved this.

Not a perfect album for me, while it has amazing voice and lovely guitar work, sometimes the songs fall a bit flat. But it's the only studio Jeff Buckley album and it's has a real soul and an amazing performance. 5/5

THANK YOU. I asked for anything above a 3 at the end of the last review, and boy did I get one! Yeah, I'm not going to beat around the bush for this one. This album is absolutely outstanding. I've enjoyed Tim Buckley's albums on this list well enough, but would it be wrong for me to say that his son, Jeff Buckley, surpassed anything Tim ever did with just one album? I don't think it would. Grace was the only complete album that Jeff Buckley released in his tragically short lifetime, and this might genuinely be the best "only album" to come from an artist ever. Everything about Grace just works. The music is definitely rock, there's no doubt about that, but the atmosphere is rather unique and the album at large is kinda hard to describe. Many of the album's songs take a more somber approach, while others are full-on rockers. Rather shockingly, this actually works really well in the album's favor, even if it is a little bit jarring to go from "Corpus Christi Carol" immediately into "Eternal Life" near the end of the album. But of course, many songs blend the two styles together creating a really special sound that appeals to many different parts of my music taste. I've got to give props to Jeff's backing band for this one. But of course, I have to talk about Jeff himself. Jeff fucking Buckley. This man's voice is just awe-inspiring. It's actually not too dissimilar to his father's voice at times, but you also have moments where he locks the hell in and it's magical. It helps that the songwriting is great. Though there are a few covers on the album, namely the jazz standard "Lilac Wine," the aforementioned traditional hymn "Corpus Christi Carol" and, most famously, Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," the rest of the album is fully original, and it's lovely. The album has a very strong focus on relationships and especially the endings of relationships, but Jeff Buckley is really good at writing those kinds of songs, so I can't blame him for focusing on them. But yeah, you've got some absolute gems on this track list. "Mojo Pin" might be one of the most emotionally powerful openers of any 90s album. The title track is just kinda perfect. "Last Goodbye" has great energy. The previously mentioned "Hallelujah" cover might be the best version of the song. "Dream Brother" is a hauntingly beautiful closer, though it would be wrong of me to ignore the bonus track "Forget Her," which is just as good, if not better. And of course, there is the emotional climax of the album and the album's best song, "Lover, You Should've Come Over." I know I called "Grace" perfect, but this song might be one of the best songs ever written. The musical progression, the despondent lyrics, and Jeff's powerful performance create the closest thing to perfection that I've heard for an album in what feels like forever. Grace is the kind of album that all artists should aspire to make. Though the tragic nature of the album is made more obvious by the tragedy of Jeff Buckley's life and death, the album stands on its own as a true work of art, the likes of which are only seen every so often. Grace is a true masterpiece and one of the best albums of the 90s, if not one of the best albums of all time. 5/5.

It's not the best album of all time, but it's definitely good. Very good, even, or maybe some word that would put it on the scale higher, but not that much higher than that. Of course, my subjective narrative speaks differently, as can be seen from the rarity rating of 5.0/5.0. I guess it's because the album and Jeff came during a period of creation of my musical tastes, and it just left a huge mark on me. Anyway, Grace is the only album that Jeff left in his lifetime, and I think of it as one great encapsulation of what he was in his lifetime: a quiet, mysterious guy who exudes James Dean energy and is eager to be free and prove himself. Often people see Jeff as a big "What if..." personality. What if he doesn't die in the prime of his youth? Is Grace one step in his career that would make him one of the most important musicians, or as the Anglo-Saxons say, The GOAT musician? I don't think it would. The album as a single is so full of energy and emotion that what came next sounds largely insincere when compared to this one. If the concept of infusing your soul in an album exists, this is a prime example of it. Jeff knows how to draw attention to himself. With his voice, which is the brightest point of this album. And the guy doesn't try to hide the fact that he has one of the greatest vocal strings in the history of music. He uses them amazingly in every, single, song on here. The thing with this album is that without his unique, vocal delivery and the aura he exudes, it absolutely falls flat on its face. I mean, imagining any other musician singing songs on here makes my gut turn, but Jeff just makes it work every single time. Pure emotion, throughout. Some would nitpick the songwriting, citing too much hiding behind covers and the help of contemporaries to carry the load, but that doesn't bother me in the slightest, if anything, the songwriting is very well done to accompany his uniquely ghost-like vocals to paint a picture of vulnerability, melancholy, and introspection. Overall, the album is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that never fails to leave me in a state of awe after I've finished listening to it. Each track is a work of art, a testament to Buckley's exceptional talent as a vocalist and as one of a kind showman.

it was gooooodd, boy was on fire

Alternative rock would just be better rock if everyone was like him. R.I.P Jeff, you had great taste.

A beaut, stunning voice and stellar lyrics(both written and not written by Buckley) make this the best one I've gotten so far. Highlights-Mojo Pin, Grace, Last Goodbye, Lilac Wine, So Real, Hallelujah, Lover, You Should've Come Over, Eternal Life, and Dream Brother.

I really don’t know what to think about this one on my first approach! He is clearly some sort of genius and hears in color, very unusual chords and melodies that somehow maintain a pop edge. Every time I think I might be getting tired of his voice the song drives into a beautiful new clearing. It’s an album that feels like it’ll bury deeper into my soul the more I listen, and I want to keep coming back.

5/5 only album he completed wish there was more

I really wish we got to hear where Buckley was going. This is one of the most devastatingly haunting records I’ve heard. Yeah it’s kinda whiny and times, and yeah it’s kinda overdone in parts, but something is so mystic about this record especially given his death. I really love the rockier stuff he does here. His music is very obviously inspired by his father’s (Tim Buckleys) imo. They both really know how to make an eerie record, great voices for it too. It’s just so creepy how they both suffered early fates in different tragic ways. The songs of both would make you believe it though.

I will say it Jeff Buckley was the greatest male singer to live. Lost too song and every song here proves that. I don’t have anything else to say this is perfect and beautiful and graceful even Melodrama as an album and it works so well fuck all this over acting criticism this is music that is so sure of itself and pushes itself to its limit. I love it to yearn and love. The power of Love

I was previously familiar with this album and it is really good. Jeff Buckley's voice is unique and the songs on this album suit him well. There's a nice balance of delicate songs with light instrumentation, with a few heavy rockers sprinkled in. The title track and Hallelujah are excellent, but really, the whole album is good. I would listen to this any time.

Absoluter Emotional Rollercoaster. Krasses Album

Feel like Ive been saying this a lot lately (good luck?), but this is one of my favorite albums of all time. There is nothing like it. The vocals are insanely talented and unique, the songs span every conceivable genre - Jeff Buckley was always very up front about his influences, but to mix Led Zeppelin, Edith Piaf, Bad Brains, Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, etc and have it come out this beautiful is really something else. The sound of that Telecaster with the Alesis Quadraverb is a perfect guitar tone. This is another perfect album wouldnt change anything.

A tragedy that this was the only album this guy made before he died. An immense talent that was taken from us far too soon. This album more than deserves it's reputation.

Iconic. Great voice, great arrangements. Fragile and beatiful.

One of my favorite all time albums - the breadth of talent displayed is staggering. So many different styles and sounds to sink your teeth into, executed perfectly by Buckley every time.

i absolutely adore jeff buckley and his style. the fact that this is the only album he was able to release before losing his life kinda proves to me how phenomenal his work is. i love the amount of yearning and desperation his music gives. if i'm being honest there are a few songs i always skip whenever i listen to Grace. Given that it's a bit biased and subjective of me to give it 5/5 but isn't music subjective itself? So objectively 4/5, but in my heart it's one of the best albums created hence the 5 stars.

Leider das einzige Album von Jeff.

My god just phenomenal. The Melodie’s, the voice, the heaviness, the spaces in between notes. The reverb, so wet. 5.0/5.0 Best Song: Lover, You Should’ve Come Over

What can you say. It is a perfect timeless soft boy masterpiece. It was my whole being for a long period of my life, a game changer. He has the perfect voice. I can listen to this all day every day. Best Track: Last Goodbye

Every time I dig into this album I discover something new.

Six stars

The vulnerability of Buckley's reaches it peak on the epic Hallelujah. This whole LP is a joy, albeit one tainted with tragedy

whoever hurt jeffrey has made me weepeth on the day of thunder

this album gave me eternal life

Amazing!

Words can not be used to sum up this album. I miss you Jeff

i mean come on, one of, if not the greatest album of the 90s

Perfect

a classic and one of my all time favourites

4.5/5.

This is a top ten album for me. It's wonderful and there's nothing for me to write that hasn't already been written.

Grace is what matters, in anything...

An absolutely gorgeous and haunting record from an absolutely stunning singer and a truly phenomenal debut. Buckley's untimely death was a real tragedy, but at least he was able to give us an all time great while he was here.

Damn this guy really was an angel. Faves: So Real Hallelujah

Emotional masterpiece

Tears bro… tears… 10th or so relisten and I can’t not cry a lil. His work is so good and I love the vocals sooo mcuh. Love eternal life, such an incredible switch up so quickly

It's often commented about this artist or that band how, "If they'd only ever made [one seminal album], they'd still be one of the greatest and most influential musical acts of all time." Jeff Buckley is that artist and 'Grace' is that album. He has influenced the likes of Thom Yorke (Radiohead) and Matt Bellamy (Muse). And countless others. (I once auditioned for a melodic metal band, and Jeff Buckley influenced the sound as much as Deftones and Tool.) This album masterfully covers more sonic landscape than most artists manage across their entire careers. Single tracks like the titular "Grace" explore more tonal ground than most albums. Jeff Buckley conveys more emotion into a single exhale than most artists do in entire songs. RIP Jeff Buckley. Taken too soon. Leaving to much art unmade.

klassiker, älskar detta albumet

god light

Started pouring rain as soon as Forget Her came on. This is my movie moment

I don’t remember where I was when I first heard Grace by Jeff Buckley. I remember having a middling impression of it on first listen. The pair of Hallelujah and Lover… were these extraordinary behemoths sitting in the middle of the tracklist, and the rest, I didn’t exactly register with. But like, it seems, everyone else in the last five years, Grace has soared back into relevance, as this bastion of a young man’s pain. And what helped was that Buckley himself was worldly, intelligent, charismatic, and robbed from us far too soon. Gorgeous might be the word, but it’s more than that. His own songs meld perfectly with the classics he covers (Hallelujah, Corpus Christi, Lilac Wine), a testament to his uncanny ability to take total control of his sound. No one sounds like him man, and many have tried. Obviously, closer to a 6 than a 4.

beautiful

It's a 5 just for the incredible Hallelujah cover, the rest is icing (or gravy? Whichever you prefer on your cake). It's a real shame he was taken from us shortly after this album, because I think his second, third, and more albums would probably have been brilliant improvements over this great album.

Every song is exceptional. An amazing talent that was sadly taken so young. Amazing voice and songs.

So, before ever having heard of Jeff Buckley, I was a fan of the album Distorted Lullebies by Ours, a band that is the brainchild of one Jimmy Gnecco, who, apparently was a "protégé" of Jeff Buckley, and derided for his imitation of him. I, however, see and appreciate the influence, and think Jimmy put his own stamp on what he was doing. I happen to prefer Ours over Buckley, but that's just a matter of taste, and each time I hear Grace, my appreciation for it grows, and Jeff's sudden death after putting out this masterpiece is nothing short of a tragedy.

This album was beautiful. It was also very long. I wasn't aware that his voice had such a large range within it. I liked listening to this.

had to add few videos abt the album to the playlist of my favourites. Very captivating ? Idk how to describe it better. Liked, oki

So real .... and then Eternal Life kicks in and i wake up

Good album, very emotional, great all around.

Gracias pibe, gone to soon...

Great album

(100/100)

Just a perfect album

Fantastic still after many years

I liked this album a lot, the overall sound was incredible and the way the instrumentals came together was perfect. Thanks Rory. Favourite - So Real

Falling in love, heartbreak, self discovery, all lived through this album. I wish I was young again.

I really think this may be my favorite single album ever. What a singular talent.

Many different styles throughout the album. Such a beautiful album. Felt a connection to this album since my first listen. Rip Jeff Buckley

I LOVE JEFF BUCKLEY YAYYY

Good album. I have listend to this album before. I enjoyed it again, while being unable to sleep. Jeff Bucklys voice is incredible. I wish he was able to make fore music RIP 5/5

Yes—finally a singer-songwriter who knows what he’s doing! Jeff Buckley’s only solo studio album released during his lifetime, *Grace*, is a colorful mix ranging from gentle acoustic ballads to full-on rockers like “Eternal Life.” This is a truly powerful recording, and Buckley’s extensive experience as a session musician really shines through: he truly masters his guitar, the songs are tastefully arranged, cleanly produced and recorded, and he knows how to use his extraordinary voice to serve the songs—in this regard, he reminds me a bit of Matt Bellamy. A truly great surprise and the second album that I regret not having properly noticed when it was released!

IMHO something a little otherworldly about him. I.e. Corpus Christi: may not be your jam, but such a good performance. There's a Jimmy Eat World song with lyrics, "A song for a heart so big, God wouldn't let it live". Dunno if I agree or not, but makes you think about people who die too young.

What a unique songwriting voice. I guess you can see a bunch of influences - he's a led zep fan for sure - but the way he composed was something that felt pretty unique (despite not really ripping up trees in any single way). A brilliant guitarist and a brilliant vocalist too. The way he arranges (evidenced by the covers) is pretty special too. Live at sinè is always my go-to. I forget sometimes how solid this studio record is. I need to listen to both more and for slightly different things.

This album is flawless from beginning to end, but it took me awhile to realize that.

classic

Beyond all the hype and hindsight excitement over this album given the tragic early death of this artist, it is an album I come to again and again. I think it perfectly captures the specific coolness and longing that people wanted to experience in the 90s.

Just beautiful.

Simply one of the best albums ever. So emotional, and it rocks too

Helt otroligt!

I am now a Jeff Buckley fan. So talented, ethereal, different. Corpus Christi Carol - wow.

Love this album.

sublime

Already familiar with this one! Man, what a generational voice. His soaring vocals alone has taken me close to tears on more than one occasion. The production isn't something to sneeze at either. A mesmerising experience all around.

One of the best

I am familiar with this album from about 20 years ago when it appeared on some list. My initial thoughts were “solid 4, maybe a 5” based on recollections. Maybe it’s a busy Saturday at Nathan’s volleyball tournament or perhaps the rare, breezy, cloudy light rain day in So Cal but this is hitting me harder than ever remembered. It’s a bit soft and hard in places making it challenging to enjoy in the car with family but APP3s in a corner of any otherwise noisy high school gym and it sounds like one of the best things I’ve ever heard. Gone too soon. 5/5

His cover of hallelujah is worth 5 stars alone and LYSHCO is worth another 10

sad boy hour

This is an impressive album. My loss is not having listened to this earlier.

This is one of my favorite all-time albums... It's just so perfect. Jeff's voice is just incredible. Favorite track(s) Mojo Pin Last Goodbye So Real Lover, You Should've Come Over Forget Her

Never listened to him with any intent before this. Loved the album!

It's so comically overraught it circles back around the being good. So much angst, so much drama, such beautiful guitars and swirling unsettled energy.

Hallelujah probablemente sea an all time favorite of mine. Insane song. Insane cómo él la interpreta. I can't.

Everyone knows hallelujah, but the vocal performance on his other tracks is also outstanding

love it

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! already listened to it a bunch so ya 10/10, some of the best vocals ever and great songwriting love jeff buckley rip goat

I've known this album for so long, his voice is so expressive and even if you don't relate to a personal extent you can perfectly get how his feeling. Not really my genre but still a perfectly excecuted album

send the rapture

Amazing!!

It’s all over the screen now

Excellent

(Placeholder review. I don’t have all of the words I’d need to do this album justice, and I’ll have to come back to this when I do. Just know, this is a top 10 album of all time for me, and one I’d recommend to literally anyone with ears.)

Greatest songwriter ever. Would give it more than 5 if I could. Lover, you should've come over is the greatest breakup song written.

never listened to this album before but in the context of the album Hallelujah moved me to tears. thank you so much for this app I've listened to this album 4 times today now and it blows my mind more every time

One of my all time favourites. His voice is stunning and his cover of hallelujah is one of the greatest cover versions

Need to listen to this more.

Really chill and good album. Listened twice to it in one day.

Can't believe I'd never listened to the full album

Man...... i just burst out in tears after listening at the first 3 chords of Grace. This one is a personal favorite and I'm. biased. But it might be one of the best albums of all time. Also I definitely have to indulge in more live versions of records that i enjoy! Grace live at Sin-é is truly amazing. 1000/10

I'd honestly never listened to the whole album before...just the obvious songs. I went into it thinking it's an easy 3...probably a 4. But by the time I was done it was a 5. I enjoyed every song (rare for me with an album). Unique sound, great writing, transcendent vocals. The accolades are certainly not out of pity for his tragic early death. I wonder what would have come later.

Holy SHIT what an album. Already loved hallelujah and Lover you should’ve come over but could not have imagined they don’t even particularly stand out in the emotion of this lineup. Each track is flawless

This is such s tragically beautiful album. One laced with so much heartache, which is only amplified by the fact it is the only proper Jeff Buckley album we would ever get. Mojo Pin is the perfect scene setter for the album as a whole, showcasing Buckley’s guitar and soaring vocals. It is however the chiming guitars of Grace, that for me, steal the show. This album is so timeless, So Real’s more rock out approach shows grunge influences which are immediately contrasted with his definitive cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, which is just perfection (even if it did lead to lots of less great covers - yes Alexandra Burke i mean you). The stripped back instrumentation lets you enjoy the beauty of his guitarmanship and that vocal that show how manages to be so fragile and yet so powerful all at once. He really is one of the great lost talents. Lover, Hou Should’ve Come Over is Buckley at possibly his most straightforward pop/rock and delivers a strong break up song. The inclusion of Corpus Christi Carol always surprises me, but suits Buckley’s vocal style and contrasts wonderfully with the loud sludgy guitar that herrolds Eternal Life, which sounds like a clash between grunge and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

This album is a masterpiece. It hits such enormous highs in so many different ways - songwriting of the highest tier, wonderful musicianship, and Buckley’s voice which soars and wails and quivers in a way that sounds almost unworldly. The breadth of style on this album is incredible too. The beautiful fragility of tracks like Hallelujah and Corpus Christi Carol are a stark contrast with the rolling energy of Eternal Life, but the album is put together in a way that works perfectly. A truly brilliant album from a brilliant talent.

4/9/26. Have heard about this in many instances and glad I finally listened, feels like I’ve been missing out on a classic. Amazing vocals and songwriting, kept me engaged the whole way through.

A fairly perfect representation of sadness, inner turmoil, beauty, and…grace.

Such an interesting and sad album Really loved the last few tracks

Phenomenal album. One of my favorites of all time. Favorite song: Eternal Life

Jeff Buckley at his best,

I've already listened to Grace by Jeff Buckley and it is my favourite album of all time! And If you don't like this album then you have no taste✨✨✨

Ah, Jeff, such sweet memories. Seeing you in concert in the Australian summer of 1996 remains one of my favourite gig recalls of all time. Anyway, this album holds a high place in my regard, having been a staple of listening throughout the late 90s and even through to today. Starting with the eerie, slow burn of Mojo Pin, before going on to Grace and Last Goodbye. Then a slight break with Lilac Wine, before the rocker that is So Real, which made all the ladies squeal when he would intone ‘……I love you’ during the middle of the song. And then Hallelujah, surely the definitive version of the Leonard Cohen classic. Corpus Christi Carol is the only song I could leave off this album, but it sets you up for the raucous Eternal Life, followed by the comedown of Dream Brother. What can I say? It's almost faultless, and definitely a 5-star album for me.

This has been a companion for me for over 20 years. Unique, haunting and timeless.

Stupendous

Este disco es absolutamente perfecto

¡Que voz la de Jeff Buckley!

best listened to on a rainy day

I love rock, I've always love rock, and this is somehow awaken something in me. Like i wanna cry and sing this out loud. It's great, it's blues, it's classic, it got me bopping my head on every song and just stares at the wall for some, it's all i need

Incredible talent

Jeff Buckley was one of the best. This album will forever hold a huge spot in my heart.

9,7/10 masterpiece

Last Goodbye og Lover, You Should've Come Over, jeg synes ikke den tilføjer noget specielt.

Album of sadness and despair, absolute cinema

This one always crushes me to listen to. You can hear the raw emotion in his voice in every song, almost mirroring Robert Plant a lot of times to perfection. I can't imagine what his career would have been if he hadn't passed after releasing this album. A very strong reminder to always be thankful for every moment.

That was an amazing experience. It's like i'm listening to early Radiohead, but even more melodic. Like father like son

Grace is one of my favourite albums of the 90s, but I listened to it so much back then that... well it's one of those albums I've kind of sickened myself on. I very rarely get the urge to play it, but will still find myself singing most songs round the house in any given month. I don't know if he ever would have bettered this album had he stayed alive. My take is that he would have needed to do something completely different. We'll never know.

How I love that guy….

One of my top 5 favorite albums! The vocals the music the mood everything. A true talent taken away too soon.

Grace by Jeff Buckley is a masterpiece with a typically rock sound, a soul or gospel singer's way of singing, and incisive but complex lyrics.

Beautiful! His voice is ethereal and compelling. The music feels unique and mixes lots of elements. I hear jazz components, alt-rock, prog or psychedelic complexity. The structure of the songs often feels non-traditional, which I like a lot.

I absolutely loved this album. It was an amazing listening experience.

A truly beautiful album only heightened by the loss of Jeff Buckley. I went in feeling a 4 having heard the album before but on a really focused listen it has some songs so undeniable you can't rate lower

About as close to perfect as you can get. The way Jeff can sing quietly and somber and then belt out a chorus within the same song. The pianos, guitars, drums and saxophones are all amazing and add so much to the album. Will forever be a favourite. Would rate higher if I could. Long remembered Jeff Buckley and Grace

Really REALLY liked this. Giving it a 4.5 but clicking 5 because god forbid we have the ability to rank more accurately </3

🌟 Amazing! This is easily my favorite album from the list so far -- it's the first one that I definitely want to listen to a bunch more.

I think Jeff holds title for best rendition of Hallelujah for me with the one from Shrek sitting right behind (Rufus Wainright I think). Crazy to learn how he died... so sad.. To think what other music could have come after this one had he not decided to go for a swim... crazy. RIP to you my good sir Jeff, the music you left behind is quite a treat.

Reading about how he passed made me cry. I have this album on vinyl, it's great. I've also heard that his father made some good music as well, and unfortunately had a similarly tragic death. Rest In Peace to the both of them. On Mojo Pin the way his voice bends between the notes, other-worldly. Grace is one of the best songs ever made, I discovered this one from a vinesauce brb. I like how it goes from a dog frolicking in a sunny field to a storm of emotions that descends and then rises back to the sunlight, eventually crescendoing beautifully. Last Goodbye has a spectacular bassline progression and strings too. The messy sort of crooning at the end stood out to me, I don't know why it just sounds cool. I haven't listened to the original of Lilac Wine, I should though. Perfect rendition from what I feel and I assume that it's much more instrument dense than the original. There's a few chords on So Real that feel like Slint. Delightfully gloomy, and uh, dreadfully real. As a kid I thought Hallelujah on this album was the original. Near the end, how did he make his voice sound better than the best ever theremin? Lover, You Should've Come Over's Reverbed snare is superb. Beautiful guitar arpeggios. Amplified guitar at the end feels like a Jimmy Hendrix thing. The space/sound staging is amazing on Corpus Christi Carol. It would be funny if the intro for Eternal Life with the clean guitar wasn't there. Dream Brother is haunting. This album has a perfect mix. The strings throughout it reminds me of In Utero by Nirvana. Also you should listen to one of Jeff's favorite bands, Shudder to Think.

I've always loved this album. Reminds me of Boulder. What time.

Magical. 10/10

Absolutely beautiful album. Buckley uses his extensive vocal reach to its full potential and he has the ability to stretch out those vocals almost endlessly, rising and falling like a stormy tide. He wrote beautifully turbulent love songs and the arrangements and musicianship build on the tension of the lyrics. The covers of Lilac Wine and Hallelujah are spectacular, I prefer Jeff's version of Hallelujah to Leonard's (sorry Leonard). 5 stars all day long.

Hey i think this is really good i love how this list has some really totally not well known at all stuff on here THIS IS SARCASM

"Lover, You Should've Come Over" é minha faixa favorita do disco, definitivamente uma das melhores canções de todos os tempos.

I loved this album before and loved hearing it again

I already considered this one to be an absolute classic. Nothing has changed here. 5 out of 5

Mojo Pin Grace Last Goodbye Lilac Wine So Real Hallelujah Lover, You Should've Come Over Corpus Christi Carol Eternal Life Dream Brother

Such a beautifully worded album

AMAZING

♥️

That's an iconic album by an arist that got to see god to early lo sinto para el mundo.

I've always been aware of this album and have listened to it from time to time, knowing how great people seem to think it is. After listening again now with fresh ears... yeah this is a truly great album. Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and the rest of Led Zeppelin might have learned a lot from this album, I heard a LOT of influences back and forth for the first time when hearing this again for the first time now. Yes he's a whiney narcissistic guy. But he has a beautiful voice, and a tight-as-fuck backing band. Radiohead - take it from here!!!

One of the greatest

Somebody in a 1 star review referred to this album as a self-indulgent wankfest and while I'm inclined to agree I also think self-indulgent wankfest is my literal favorite genre. IDK everything about Jeff Buckley just works for me. He's so extra and leaves it all out there but it feels 100% honest. His vocals are unmatched but you can hear his influence in a ton of people that came after him. In a world full of sadbois he is forever my #1 sadboi. As an album it feels really cohesive and fluid. The fact that he can weave together original rock with jazz standards and hymns without that feeling disjointed or too try-hard is kind of amazing. No skips but fav by far is Lover You Should Have Come Over. I can't think of a better breakup song and it makes me cry if I listen too hard. Love love love

- Chanson préférée : So Real (Real!!!!)

men should listen to this and take notes instead of listening to podcasts chansons préférées : Dream Brother ; Grace ; Forget Her mentions honorables : i don’t feel like being #quirky rn i’m just sad

Sometimes barren and desolate, sometimes soaring with hope. This album is the full gambit and will never get old or tired.

LOOOOOVE Hallelujah.

The dynamics are absolutely breathtaking and the way the vocals and instruments interact is pure genius. You can hear so many details that influenced bands like Radiohead and RHCP, all wrapped in a crystal clear mix that sounds incredibly professional yet deeply emotional.

Damn his voice is phenomenal

Beautiful - top 10 in my listening rotation.

Lord this album is phenomenal. Jeff Buckley the man that you were, and the music that you made.

MAN I'd be shocked if there's any listener that isn't hit in the feels with this. Not perfect but very very close

“Lover, You Should've Come Over” will always be my favorite track. My name uhh Jeff.

I can understand why only releasing this album earned him a rock & roll hall of fame nomination.

Just simply amazing

Jeff Buckley forever <3

My favourite album <3

Already know I love this one!

This album left me speechless. 5 stars.

Krásny album

La primera parte del álbum me encanta. Mucha emoción e intensidad

This is one of the greatest albums of all time. It's not an understatement. The production value this record has is so far up above and beyond a lot of material you'll ever hear period. Buckley's vocals sound angelic and have genuine depths in His lyrical delivery and overall taste for music. As a whole, he clearly understands rhythm. And intricate playing very well and the way that he displays that. And especially the group of musicians that also played on the album, they did a fantastic job. I really could just kind of go on about what specifically, but I mean, thinking about checks like I turn a life being a postgrunge esque track back in 94 and also having moments like lover. You should have come over, it's very, very different genre switches that are also so beautiful sound very well

really good but couldn’t give it the attention it needed. will come back

this is the best album ever by a man. rip jeff it’s never over

Six out of five stars.

This guy’s gonna go far

I've listened to this many times in my life, but not for a long time. Still sounds great. 9.4 Fav track: Dream Brother Least fav: Corpus Christi Carol

There are three things, primarily, to enjoy on Grace -- the late Jeff Buckley's only recording completed in his lifetime. The first is his voice. Rangy, smooth, expressive and wailing, Jeff Buckley possessed a voice with few male equals in the 1990s. In the rock sphere, post-Freddie, you may only have Chris Cornell. Surely there are some R&B singers who could hold a candle but that's out of my wheelhouse. The second is his guitar work. Buckley played a particularly dynamic type of self-accompaniment. Even more rare than his remarkable voice is the combination of his voice and his stringed instrument -- sometimes counterpoint, sometimes harmony. With either of these, the music shrinks and expands all the time; from simple and haunting to roaring and soaring, he does it all with both on this record. It is dynamic, in terms of economy of phrasing, in terms of volume and most importantly in terms of conveyed emotion. The third thing is composition. Buckley channeled his finely honed talents through song structures that seem simple on the surface but which reveal knotty chord structures and chrodal cadences to achieve the tension-and-release cycle that marks much of his writing. The title track alone has a hook that hovers in an almost-major mode contrasted against a very tense thing for the verses that seems to ascend and descend chromatically. For a guy famous for a Leonard Cohen cover, this song absolutely thunders. Tragically, we really only have this in our consciousness because of the strangeness of his demise. Late in May of 1997, Buckley went swimming, fully clothed, in a tributary of the Mississippi and drowned accidentally when a boat's wake swept him away. Critical acclaim wasn't entirely dependent on his death but his profile was raised significantly by the tragedy and it is entirely possible that we would not know Cohen's 'Hallelujah' -- a song Cohen struggled with (writing likely over a hundred verses) and whose revival began in '91 with the John Cale recording -- had Jeff Buckley not been sacrificed to the Mississippi River. We'll never know if this record was the tip of a brilliant iceberg or a gorgeous fluke. We can only enjoy its loveliness for its own sake, a snapshot of a musician who vanished shortly thereafter. 5/5

One of my all time favourite albums. The variety and the vocal power of Buckley and the tragedy of his death make this such an incredible piece of art.

ive already heard this album but not in forever, its sososo incredibly beautiful. i genuinely dont know how he got such angelic tones. beautiful. i cant even comprehend how impressive this is as your first album AT LIKE 24??? crazy...

An absolute classic! Gorgeous voice, beautiful melodies- a really beautiful album.

Wow, really enjoyed this. Amazing voice, nice varied tunes, adding this to my mix. Had never listened to this album before.

Love this album

fuckin hate Hallelujah album's great though

Love this album. Jeff Buckley is one of my favourite ever male vocalists and it's such a shame that this was the only album we got got from him before his untimely passing. He showed such range on this record, from intensely powerful belting to an angelic falsetto and plenty inbetween. I see some people describe his vocal style as over the top and self indulgent, but I think it sells the raw emotion of the music perfectly. He may lack subtelty at times but there's a time and a place for maximalism in my eyes and this record is a great example of that. Vocals aside, this record is filled with really strong compositions with excellent progressions and some really great guitar work. That opening riff on the title track for example is such an ear worm, as is the main riff on Last Goodbye. The rest of his band were no slouches either, the drums in particular are impeccable throughout the album and compliment the energy of Buckley's guitar work well. Honestly, this is probably one of the best debut albums of all time. It's such a captivating and evocative record that dances through genre boundaries whilst remaining immediately accessible. I can't even imagine how Buckley's music could have developed when his first effort was as realized and iconic as this. Too bad we'll never know. Favourite tracks: Mojo Pin, Grace, Lover You Should Have Come Over, Last Goodbye

Just an outstanding album

This is my desert island album. I would just fine only listening to this album for the rest of my life. JB I love you.

Highlights: Grace, Last Goodbye, Hallelujah, Dream Brother, Forget Her (bonus track).

one of the greatest albums ever made

Wasn’t what I was expecting so far

Jeff Buckley gave everything he had in making Grace…voice, nerve, tenderness, and ache without holding ANYTHING back as if he didn’t expect to survive after making it. just devastatingly human + soul laid bare.

Jeff Buckley – Grace (1994) What an album. It doesn't require a technical ear to judge how good this is; the musicianship is simply peak. After taking the time to go through the entire project, I can fully appreciate what a classic body of work this is. The vocal performance throughout is incredible, especially on Hallelujah, which was a real highlight for me. Other standouts like Mojo Pin, Grace, Last Goodbye, So Real, Lilac Wine, Lover You Should’ve Come Over, and Eternal Life made the experience feel complete and high-level. This is a record I will definitely be returning to. An easy 5/5. Going from hearing the title track here and there to realizing the whole project is a classic is what this 1001 list is all about.

Grace is one of the most beautiful albums I have ever listened to in my life. Period. Every single song on this album (including forget her on the expanded) contains an entire world which Buckley brings to life. No matter how many times I listen to this album I find something new to appreciate. The subtle neighing when Buckley sings "the white horses flow" on Mojo Pin, the vibrato on Hallelujah, the chord progressions on Grace, the rawness of eternal life, the pain in Forget Her. My mom and I saw a documentary about his life last year, and she knowing next to nothing about Buckley, was still mesmerized by his music and life.

A genuine 5. I didn't hear this album until I was 21. The cover always put me off, I thought Jeff Buckley was gonna be a boogie-woogie guy or something. Anyway, I was in Corsica for some reason visiting a friend studying there and she had some Irish pals who adopted me for the weekend, made me drink Pastis and listened to Grace a hundred times. I've listened to it hundreds of times since. Magical music. I'm a big fan of Sketches for My Sweetheart, the Drunk as well. However, this feels like the only true Jeff Buckley album and it's perfect from start to end. Best: Grace, Dream Brother, So Real Worst: (no bad songs whatsoever, not even close)

4.7/5 Stars Top Songs: Lover You Should've Come Over, Hallelujah, Eternal Life

Ok vild debut Jeff! Den er lidt all over the place, hvilket bare gør det endnu mere sindssygt hvor godt det hele virker.

Amazing album. Beautiful voice and songs.

What an amazing album. Gone way too soon.

Lilac wine

Great album. Great flow through out. No weak tracks.

Världens bästa!

Great vocals At least 4 song 10/10

FUCK YEAHHH

i remember reading about how Matt Bellamy from Muse got inspired to sing despite having a tenor voice, thanks to hearing Jeff Buckley. I think this goes beyond the vocal range, and has to do with how honest, vulnerable and sensitive it's his music. Every time i hear this album, i'm mesmerized with how powerful it is. I think i feel the way he felt. Listening to this, with better headphones than the last time, was an intense experience. His voice makes me cry. And i'm thankful for that.

An Angel walked among us as Artist, graced us with such songs of heartbreaking beauty, a choir of angels in a single voice, and then left.

1. Mojo Pin ✔️✔️ 2. Grace ✔️ 3. Last Goodbye 4. Lilac Wine ✔️ 5. So Real ✔️ 6. Hallelujah ✔️✔️ 7. Lover, You Should've Come Over ✔️✔️ 8. Corpus Christi Carol ✔️✔️ 9. Eternal Life 10. Dream Brother ✔️ 11. Forget Her 〰️

i am not even religious, but this album is great

MY SHAYLA FINE ASS

One of the greatest voices ever and an incredibly unique sound.

One of my favourite albums in general.

10/10 no notes

Masterpiece. Probably in the top 10 albums on this entire list

This is actually one of my favorite albums of all time, I think one of the best ever made. He was so talented and I will just never get over it he was amazing. Lilac Wine will always make me stop when I listen to it, and I just love it so much

oh. my. gosh. literal masterpiece?! now i see why a lot of people hyped this up. this is amazing. i got so sad upon the discovery of his passing :( this album is the epitome of yearning.

An amazing album from a talent who left us far too early.

Perfect

A stunning album. One that I've avoided due to it's reputation of being brilliant, and now that I've listened to it I'm in awe. Some haunting, beautiful songs here.

Absolutely loved it! One of my favourite albums now, thx!

i mean,,,,, yes. i added this album to my spotify library ages ago with the intent of listening to it because of lover you should've come over, and i've listened to it here and there but never really got into it. we'll see if that changes,, something i think some of the other albums might've lacked is dynamics. this one does not. there's something for every mood in there, like corpus christi carol going into eternal life is crazy

Already listened its fiya

Didn’t even have to listen, first because I wanted to be happy and second cause I know it’s a 5 star album

Fav: Lover, You Should’ve Come Over Least Fav: Lilac Wine I distinctly remember this as being the first album that made me sit and think about how good it was. And then I found out he died

best album ever to exist ever.

Micro review: Jesus. This fucking guy. Just.... Jesus. Short review: I'm pretty sure my rating system is flawed. I've been giving out way too many fours and fives that don't measure up to this one. The vocal performance, songwriting, lyrics, and instrumental performances are all incredible. One of the greatest albums of all time. Longer review: "Mojo Pin" is an incredible album opener- it tells you everything you need to know about the record you just started: Jeff has a tremendous voice, able to hit ridiculously high notes, yes, but also capable of moving from a scream to an angelic lilt in the span of a single phrase. Dynamics are key, and songs will not follow a traditional "quiet verse-loud chorus" structure. Lyrics will be poetic and impressionistic rather than detailed and concrete. Power and beauty will live side by side in the same song. Every song feels like Jeff is auditioning for a different band. Hard rock, art rock, jazz standards, romantic ballads, fucking glee club. HE'S DOING IT ALL. I know this guy's voice is not everyone's cup of tea. I get that. But compared to some of the other "acquired taste" singers I've heard on this list, Jeff smokes them all. He smokes pretty much every other male vocalist, barring maybe Marvin Gaye. This one just floored me. What a talent. Sidebar: The last lines of this album are "asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over" THE DUDE DROWNED. Jesus God. FIVE STARS

I mean.. what can I say about this album that hasn't been said before? Such a shame that it's Buckley's only album before he unfortunately passed away.. such a promising career, gone to waste. But Grace is such a phenomenal album, definitely a must hear before you die. 9.5 / 10

❤️

Babes it’s Jeff Buckley

Masterpiece

I was surprised by how much I liked several songs on this. It's an incredibly genre-twisting album -- from blues to rock to gentle singer-songwriter and back again. Buckley's voice is fantastic, and I say that as someone who doesn't even like falsetto voices most of the time. Even though this has such a range, it's surprising how many of the songs I liked. Favorite Songs: Grace Lover, You Should've Come Over Dream Brother Favorite lyric: This is our last goodbye/I hate to feel the love between us die/But it's over/Just hear this and then i'll go/You gave me more to live for/More than you'll ever know"

voice of an angel

Ruined, crying screaming throwing up. How does he come up with this shit man. 10/10

Genuinely one of the greatest albums I’ve ever heard. The emotion, the production, Jeff’s voice, all perfect.

Beautiful album! A low 5, but a 5 nonetheless. It has everything: great melodies, great singing, great guitar playing. Absolutely beautiful

Prachtig, echt geweldig! Hier hou ik van

Echte klassieker, zo veel emoties komen voorbij.

Ahh Grace, what can I say that hasn't been said already? One of the most beautifully bittersweet albums of all time. Interspersing tight and punchy Alt-Rock with heartbreaking atmospheric Singer-Songwriter tracks is so perfect especially for Jeff Buckley's vocal range and delivery. The album plays with space so well, using sparse sentimental sections to set up brutally poignant crescendos. The songwriting is absolutely next-level, simultaneously being incredibly romantic and tragically heartbreaking. There genuinely isn't a song I dislike on this record. Everything comes together for a brief moment in time to form unquestionable perfection. It's a travesty this is the only album we got from Jeff Buckley, as he was truly one of the greatest musical minds of all time.

VERY glad to see this pop up and actually revisited it not too long ago after watching the great documentary on him (Never Over). Have an idea of what score this gets already but will give it another listen start to finish to make sure! ❤️ Yeh, this track listing is ridiculous and ‘Mojo Pin’ gives such a good illustration of the layers, skill, variety, depth, eclectic mix of what’s about to come. LOVE. and then just casually goes into ‘Grace’ after that opener 🤯 Man, I ADORE this album and this man. More so, after the documentary, and knowing his perfectionism on each part of this album. Can feel and hear it in every aspect. Listened to it 3-4 times already today (and rewatched the doc!). What a man and what a range ❤️🙏

Haunting, beautiful record from a very talented artist who was taken way too soon. I had forgotten how great this album is without a throwaway track anywhere. Yes, his vocals can be over the top, maybe a little histrionic at times. .but it works for the songs. "Hallelujah" is an all time great cover and songs like "So Real," "Mojo Pin," and the title song are fantastic, brooding, and dark. The man could do many different styles as he shows on "Corpus Christie Carol" which is gorgeous. Love this album and it's very sad this was the only one released in his lifetime.

Was interested to go back and see if this still stands up. It feels like the route is album that could easily have aged prey badly. To be honest I can't imagine anyone releasing this now and having as much success. But the songs still work, good voice is still great and it's still a tragedy we didn't get to find out where he'd go with this

What a tragic loss! His songs are so strong and heartbreaking

So surprisingly good. Had never listened to this artist before. Will be adding to my library.

Jeff's version of Hallelujah has been regarded as the best version of the song!

type of album that keeps getting better and better every time u listen to it

Oh let's *go*, this would be worth a 5 even if it was just the guitar line from Grace

Inspireing with some big punch!

"Last Goodbye" isto.

Wonderfully diverse, from the haunting and soaring wistful melodies of 'Corpus Christi Carol' to the heavy and unapologetic groove of 'Eternal Life.'

Simply put the album is beautiful, Jeff’s voice is beautiful and executes pain and beauty perfect. It’s an emotional album where you can almost feel what Jeff was going through when recording it. I’m in awe honestly.

This has always been ‘The one with Hallelujah’ but boy was I impressed with the whole album. Fantastic voice and tunes, tinged with retrospective melancholy as there could have been so much more.

One of the singular greatest vocal recordings of all-time. A one album wonder due to his untimely passing. I mean really there are not enough good things to say about this album. The Hallelujah cover is one of the greatest covers of all-time. Lover You Should Come Over and Forget Her are both absolute heavyweights of songwriting.

One of my all time favs :)

already listen but fkin masterpiece, jeff q coraje q te fueras tan pronto

a godsent album. current hyper fixation. still working on scoring standards

5 pq es uno de los album fav de mi prima

A sad yet uplifting album with some beautiful songs, orignals and covers. It is a stunning debut made all the more poignant because the second never came.

One of those albums that I have to be in the right mood for. But he has an amazing ability to interpret a song (compare Lilac Wine and Hallelujah to any other cover you can find and his versions are better). Goodness only knows what levels he'd have achieved if he'd lived longer. What a loss.
