1001 Albums Summary

Really enjoyed this as a first album. Some standouts were chan chan, el cuatro de tula, pueblo nuevo, buena vista social club and la bayamesa. Loved the piano on songs like the title track and pueblo nuevo. Even though I don’t speak Spanish or listen to much Cuban music this album was very enjoyable to listen to. Not much to say other than that this album is quite good

Great album. Favourite songs were freedom, break, remember his name, thin line, sum of us, I am somebody and acetate prophets. Haven’t listened to much hip-hop in the past but this was an amazing introduction to the genre. Just got a great energy about it. Definitely a 5 star in my opinion

Pretty good album. Favourite songs: Ain’t no telling, little wing, you got me floatin’, castles made of sand, one rainy wish. The first few songs had me concerned that this wasn’t going to be good but it eventually hit its stride. I did find the panning on some songs annoying. 4 stars

Just alright. Songs like so in love and blue Monday people were quite good but the rest of the songs just dragged on a bit too long. Some decent rhythms but nothing too extraordinary. Would give 2.5 stars if that was an option on this website but will just stick with 2 since it’s not

Quite a good live album. Favourite songs: Emerald, southbound, massacre, don’t believe a word, are you ready. 4 stars

Favourite songs: Stand!, somebody’s watching you, sex machine, you can make it if you try and my brain (zig zig). The albums alright, there’s some catchy stuff but not the best overall. 3 stars

It’s alright. I found the vocal delivery on most of the songs very lacklustre but the instrumentation is enough to bring it up to a 3. Favourite songs: Search and destroy, raw power.

Favourite songs: N.W.O, scare crow, corrosion. I couldn’t really understand anything the singer was saying but the music sounded quite good on most songs. I’m just not the biggest metal fan which is why I can only rate this a 3

Eh. Not very good in my opinion. The instruments were boring and the singing was honestly terrible in my opinion. If I had to pick a standout it would probably be the eternals but that’s about it. 1 star

Enjoyed this. Loved the general vibe but dragged on a bit. Still gets a high 4 stars

Despite the actions of Kanye this is a great album. Loved nearly everything on here. 5 stars

Alright but way too long. Every song dragged and dragged and just felt repetitive. If this was 45 mins instead of 1 hour 15 then it would be a 4 star but for now it’s a 3

I thought I’d enjoy this one but really it ended up all sort of sounding samey and bland. I think I can only give this 2 stars

There was some really good stuff on here and especially the more energetic songs were amazing and really suited her voice. The slower and more relaxed songs didn’t though and just felt a bit boring or annoying at times. I’ll give it 3 stars.

Overall I just couldn’t really get into this. Honestly if that short song at the end were a full song it would’ve been my favourite on the album and if the rest of the album sounded closer to that it probably wouldn’t have ended up being 2 stars

I just couldn’t enjoy this album. The strings were decent but an hour of sad strings over murmurs of death, love and sadness doesn’t make a good listen. Even if there is some variation on that every song drags on so long that it just becomes tired and boring. Like I said on my review of debut I think that bjork works better with upbeat songs and not sad 10 minute snoozefests. 1 star

Really loved this one. Love how well they can create an atmosphere with the vocals, lyrics and instrumentation. Probably about equal with amnesiac which I got a few months ago. 5 stars

I was a bit turned away by the length and some of the singing but once I got used to it I realised it was really quite good. 4 stars

Like I’ve said in previous reviews I prefer Björks vocal delivery in more upbeat songs and I’m glad that this sticks more to that but even with that I feel this was still lacking things. 3 stars

Some decent psychedelic stuff that I guess would kinda lead into hard rock eventually, not the best though. Claptons already talking about cheating even before he takes George Harrison’s wife and just overall wasn’t top quality. 3 stars

I liked the rapid fire nature and its cool that it pioneered punk but then again it also pioneered that punk vocal style that I just can’t get behind, I can really only give this a 3 and that feels slightly generous

It offers very little musically, I don’t really like his voice and while I’m sure the lyrics are probably good if you understand them, I’ve just got to work with what I’ve got which is very limited French and therefore I couldn’t enjoy this one much. 2 stars

Obviously hate the guy as a person but can’t deny how great his music was back when he wasn’t as mental. Maybe slightly longer than it needed to be whereas mbdtf felt a perfect length but it still managed to keep it interesting all the way through. As much as it feels weird to support his stuff I think I have to give this 5 stars

is bro ok… who’s he shouting at like? He keeps on saying that he doesn’t care while spending 71 minutes showing that he cares far too much. I almost want to give it a 2 just to reward the nerve it took to put this out there, but then I remember what I just listened to and have to drop it down to a 1

Honestly didn’t really like this, the vocals were kinda off putting and the instrumental wasn’t that interesting. 2 stars

Liked this one a whole lot more than brothers in arms, mainly due to the fact that this one wasn’t shite. Was very chill and had a good sound throughout. 4 stars

Like I know some people like it but Jesus Christ when a vocal is so gravelly and gutteral that throughout the whole album all I can think about is my throat and how weird it feels then I can’t really get into the album, instrumentals were decent though so it can at least get 2 stars

I usually end up mixed on new wave albums because I like the style of music but sometimes the vocals just don’t work for me, this time because the vocals were limited (and even then I did think there was a charm to them) and the music was just as good or better than other albums in the genre I have to go this a 4 stars I think

The two big hits are really good. Rest of the album wasn’t my absolute favourite, the vocals are so high that they can feel a bit screechy, but it was ok overall. 3 stars

First song is another one of those moments this generator where I recognise a song but never knew from where, and I guess now I know. The rest of the album was good as well. Lots of good stuff. 4 stars
