not bad

noo me gusta este estilo

Ear assaulter worse than the other 1 stars

Nej tack.

You Oughta Know is a banger but overall her voice comes across as whiny and repetitive.

Jesus Titty Fucking Christ More like isn’t it moronic, don’t you think? Even still, Dave Coullier fumbled pretty hard. She blew him at the movies allegedly but I’m guessing it still wasn’t enough for him. This is music is for 13 year old “deep thinking girls.” I’m all for empowerment but this is just lame. I’ll take The Black Album any day over this. Seriously, this album is stupid and tedious.

Not my taste

Mostly a miss for me. Feels like I'm mopping in a mall and this is the only non-work thing I can hear. Forgiven was kind of fun.

Fuck no

Holy fuck i hate this. She sounds like a female version of the singer from pearl Jam. 1.5/13. 33.97%

There were 3 or 4 good songs, and it’s very 90s nostalgic. Gonna be honest I don’t have anything witty to say about it it’s just not very good. And Uncle Joey wasn’t worth it. He was probably part of that group of people counting down when the Olsen twins were gonna turn 18.

The lyrics are very whingy, get on your tits after a bit, it's all just very shit

I see yer ma's taking the divorce well.

Didn't like it at all. It's very 90s in all bad ways that can be.

I'm trying really hard to approach this one with an open mind. To my knowledge, I've never heard the entirety of this album, though the singles from it were impossible to miss at the time. I don't know Alanis Morrisette's reach outside of Canada, but I have to assume that it was pretty wide if she made this list and that Apple Music has it as one of their 100 Best Albums when I go to stream it. I'm not hearing the appeal though. Is this the Canadian thing where we tend to be highly critical and dismissive of fellow Canadians? On the positive side, I like that she's not actually a very good singer. Her lyrics are raw and angry, fairly explicit for the time, and the lack of polish in her voice works here. From what I recall, this album was minorly scandalous because she was airing some dirty laundry about some well-known actors of the time. I assume her backing band is made up of studio musicians. They're competent, but there's no real character to any of the music. The best I can say here is that this music spoke to a particular moment, but a lot of music at the time had those similar angry, angsty, broody qualities, but this lacks the artfulness to allow it to transcend its time.

I guess it’s good at what it does, but I don’t like that.

Pop bulshit for little girls

Klarer ikke å like dette.

More like Jagged Little Shrill.

Before last Saturday this would have easily been the worst LP I’d ever had the misfortune to listen to all the way through, “Highway To Hell” set a very high bar in that regard but on balance AM just about got over it…OMG, never again. Tom. I found this unbearable, the lyrics, vocals...everything. Charlotte

A dull, unoriginal, bland, and especially repetitive piece of rubbish which goes nowhere throughout its HOUR LONG runtime. A complete waste of time. All songs sound the same with the exact same structure, so it gets tiring after the first two songs, the production doesn't help it in the slightest somehow managing to make everything sound 10x more bland and uncreative. Listening to this is a complete waste of time, it doesn't matter how 'deep' the lyrics are (which they are not) if the music is total rubbish. If you asked an AI to generate a 90s rock album you'd get this piece of crap.

I kinda hate this genre of music ngl so I couldn’t even finish listening to it, which is kinda against the rules but also I am the rules so. My fave lyric was from “You oughta know” ( there are two songs with same name for some reason, this was the first one), where she says “Is she perverted like me? Would she go down on you in a theatre?”. But that’s kinda it. Sounds like 2000s witch movie soundtrack.

Grating

The music itself isn't bad, but these songs were so grating. I actually sighed with relief when the album finished.

Jeg pleier ikke å klage over at noen skriver dårlige sangtexter, men dette bikka meg over. Alanis har ett litterært weapon of choice, og hun bruker det over alt: motstillinger. All I Really Want (også et av de sterkeste sporene): "My sweater is on backwards and inside out And you say, how appropriate" Hand in My Pocket: Hver eneste verslinje. Wake Up: "You like snow, but only if it's warm You like rain, but only if it's dry" Og ingen trenger å si noe mer om Ironic.

horrible. Her voice is off pitch and grated on every nerve.

Bonus point for all three of her hits coming off this album

Možda i četvorka.

Whilst I can understand the appeal from a production perspective, her voice sounds like nails grinding on a chalkboard.

Massively successful. Morissette herself is likeable, but I find the music irritating in pretty much every department.

90s teen drama finishes, You Oughta Know starts playing in the credits.

Not my thing

I know I'm in the minority on this one, but its just too grating. Most 90's stuff is hit or miss, and while this one has some catchy lyrics and fun basslines, the singing is just not my vibe. Sorry Miss Morissette

The first song threw me off. Couldn't listen to the whole album

Ally McBeal-grunge. Jag vill inte höra det igen

Nej, nej, nej… Det här borde inte vara tillåtet. Inför censur! Bland Canada!

Fullkomligt vidrigt munspel i Head over Feet.

Cements my hate for Alanis’ voice… don’t get the hype, all sounds the same to me

not my cup of tea

Painful. Apparently the 13th best selling album of all time. I first heard this while following the 20 Million Club podcast, wasn't impressed then and it still doesn't do anything for me.

The best songs are like a female Bob Dylan, but not in a good way. The rest is some kind of Canadian Hannah Montana slop.

Very modern pop singing, really don't like it

That moment when you already late and then a traffic jam hits 🤣🤣

This is a record of it's time that does not date well, I did buy it at the time. I saw her live at a festival and did enjoy the experience. The problems I find now are several: schreaching ( who ever is torturing stop you cruel bastards), lyrics some of the worst angry teen lyrics of all time and ones written to shock (but don't) like the sexual references clumsy. It's so contrived and lacks any sophistication. FUCK ME JUST READ THE REVIEWS YOU LOVE HER OPEN YOUR EARS. DATED MUSIC MEANS IT IS SHIT NAME ME ONE CLASSIC THAT SOUNDS DATED. DON'T EVEN MENTION THE IRONY THAT ISN'T

Typ One Tree Hill-soundtrack.

No sir , I don’t like it.

The singles got a lot of radio play at the time, but I found them whiney and annoying, so never listened to the album. I've now listened to it all, and I find it ... whiney and annoying.

Generic

I don't like 90's. she seems angry.

Not for me, isn't it ironic.

I wasn't angry about listening to this for about 30 seconds and it was the 2 unexpected harmonica solos. I told myself if she was younger than 19 when this came out, I'd give it a 2. No dice

A voice like nails on a chalkboard, but a little worse

I have it a shot but this album has not aged we'll at all for me. The production is decent enough, but very dated. The songs are ok musically, the lyrics are juvenile dreck, and the vocals are atrocious. I didn't realize until today just how bad a singer Alanis is, but it's a bit jarring on a close listen.

Ironic was catchy 30 years ago, but the rest fell flat.

god I hate her voice, I'm sorry, it's just so grating to listen to and ruins everything. doesn't help that this sounds dated and uninspired

I just cannot get past her affect. I hate the way she chooses to sing. I've heard her sing great, but the choice she makes here just grates on me so much. I can't stand it, and I can't really put that aside and rate the album outside of it. It's just nails on a chalkboard to me.

This was sooooo hard to listen to - 0/5 please make it stop

And I'm here to remind you that this mess exists... You, you, aught pass.

This sucks

wau täksi päiväksi tuli tämmöin klassikko, korkeasti arvosteltu albumi! joka ikinen mahdollinen ominaisuus tässä on paskaa! ärsyttävää 90 luvun poppirock kirkumista, maailman tylsimmät kitaralinjailut ja kusisesti miksattu rumpukoneisto. tähän päälle lyriikat jotka kuulostaa 14-vuotiaan kirjoittamilta tältä aikuiselta naiselta. kaikki mitä amerikkalaisessa (noh, känädä on sama asia) musiikissa on viime vuosikkymmeninä ollut niin vitun virheellistä. täältä arbitage ja pelkkää objektivismia, ja tämä albumi on syöpää, keuhkon. all i really want

90s-pop-by-the-numbers production; some of the most irritating vocal affectations ever recorded; and SO MUCH lyrical detritus: to paraphrase, its the sound of pretensions falling all around

I can't stand her voice it's just an abomination and some songs are just the pits, but you can't deny 'You ought to know' and the other 'hits' stand up to the test. It sounds very dated and I can never get over the fact that it's so ironic that all the lyrics in ironic are not ironic as so well done by Ed Byrne in a comedy skit.

Musically it is OK, but I really hate Alanis Morissette vocals from the bottom of everything I have. Not to mention everything I hate in Ironic...

Not my cup of tea. Glad I´ve heard it but won´t listen again.

I couldn’t finish this

Um.... just a bit weird... bit too weird for me to really enjoy but I can see why some people like it... not vibing tho

Gefällt mir nicht!

Her voice... Yeah, I don't like it. It's not that it is bad, it's how she sings. Sounds like Jonathan Davis but in the totally wrong context

I suppose the music is good, but I just can't get over her voice.

Look, I don’t comment on the albums I listen to here… I legitimately try to be objective, and generally can listen to an album and then go about my day. I will listen, rate, and then move on. But sometimes, UGH. I listen to some shit that brings me back to a time and I just cannot get past it and move on… and JFC, even almost 30 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) years later I cannot. I WANT TO LIKE THIS ALBUM BUT OMG I CANNOT. The whiiiiiiiining. Omg. All I really want is to never listen to this whiny shit again.

Morrisette portrayed a mute God in Kevin Smith’s 1999 film, Dogma. I guess if you were mistreated by some ass hole in the 90’s then this album may have messianic properties also. Sadly for me it’s a messsy mix of alt rock rage and arena rock balladry. Listen to Tori Amos or Fiona Apple instead.

This album and artist reminds me of a horrible boss I had at the time this came out. She absolutely loved it and I can't stand it, but I recognize it's mostly because of the b**** Lynette. But also it has a kind of affectation that I don't like. The same as Lynette I guess. Dang, I can't even get through the album and I'm normally down for a good rant.

Her voice is annoying to me. Didn’t enjoy this at all.

Did not like

I'd like to listen to music not whining

Did not enjoy at all

Bisschen langweilig. Sehr ruhige Musik, vielleicht Richtung indie

Songs aren’t bad. Singing is dreadful

22/100

furchtbares geschrei, musste ausmachen

Not ma vibe.

Meh. Her constant yodeling voice flips are unlistenable.

This could have stayed in the 90s.

no no no, i’m not trying to be a dick it’s just no good

WARNING: Prolonged listening can lead to an increased risk of certain side effects and complications, including nausea, migraines, diarrhea, perforated eardrums, dizziness, and death.

Despite having listened to many of these songs many many times, I just really don't like her music.

This album made me want to give up on day 1. Kept checking back to spotify to see how many songs were left.

An incredibly powerful piece of little evil

radio killed this for me ... I couldn't drag myself to listen

I've listened to this enough in the 90's. I think once was too many.

nope.. not my sound! da taugt mir halt die kylie schon mehr ;)

I find her slightly annoying
