Amnesiac

I’m such a huge Radiohead fan that even an album like this, which most don’t think is their best effort, starts with a presumptive 5. Call it the Radiohead floor. But they earn it here with Knives Out and a Pyramid Song alone. Pyramid Song in particular is just epic. It really rises so far above most music of the time. But to me Dollars and Cents sounds like classic melodic Radiohead, I Might Be Wrong sounds like classic guitar-band Radiohead, and Sardines sounds like a bridge between Kid A and the Radiohead sound that was to come in the ensuing decade. And You and Whose Army is just so pensive. Those are all songs I like to sit and listen to. Others aren’t, but they’re still good: Pulk/Pull, Spinning Plates, Hunting Bears and Glasshouse for me represent the band’s willingness to experiment with new sounds and constantly evolve, but all in different ways (from dueling guitars to New Orleans jazz), which is what makes Radiohead so great. Even so far as to take a song they had just recorded on their last album (Morning Bell) and rerecord it here in a different time signature. None of those are meant to be the next hit single. They’re just the product of talented, curious musicians who found them interesting. Yeah, still a five, and I think they’ve earned it.

I really like this album. Even one of Radioheads worst is ingenious, but I can’t give it a five because some songs are just hard to listen to

what a trip listening to this immediately after the Bends. I basically agree with Jacob’s assessment. The first 5 or 6 songs are stellar. Then it just starts to sound like b-side ideas and jimmying. I quite like Hunting Bears tho. That did something to me.

To listen to Radiohead around the Kid A period, you have to be in a kind of a bummer mood. This is, after all, the most successful bummer band. I love these albums, they're evergreen to me... I discover new things in them the older I get, that 16-year-old me didn't see or understand. The lyrics alone you could spend a long time on. It always surprises me how alien Radiohead starts to sound at this point. Alienated from the sound and styles of the late 90s / 2000's, kind of lonely in their pursuit to get to the natural conclusion of this sound. And their sound palette alienates the listener a lot of the time. It's that mix of those noisy, antisocial, uninterested blasts of drum machines with the refined sound of Nigel Godrich's orchestration. And Thom Yorke has that quality to anything he sings... arresting. The bittersweet, tonal, in the same way a theremin solo can almost make you cry. This is supposed to be the Pt 2 of Kid A, but to me it still feels like half Part 2, and half b-sides or slightly less polished demos from those sessions. Once we get past Knives Out, things get a little muddy. And there is some muddiness earlier than that as well. but then Life In A Glasshouse comes around, which kind of puts the whole project in context. Thom Yorke as jazz crooner of this dysfunctional band. Kind of an incredible ending. I'm on the edge between 4 and 5. I am going to round down for the slightly messy middle. But really, hard to argue with those first few songs. 4/5

Honestly was just ok. Mostly I just sat down the whole time thinking when will the album will be over. I would give this album a 3/5

An overall much more consistent Radiohead album in its tone and quality compared to most of their albums, but it doesn't nearly reach the highs of any of their other albums on the list, including stuff like Hail to the Thief. Still a solid record for the consistency and high polish, but it does feel like it's riding off the high of Kid A. Great album, otherwise. Seem pretty negative here but I should specify that this is still great. Would have loved more of that jazz influence we see at the end.

This is more interesting than I was expecting it to be. I don't know more electronic. These guys have never done for me, but this was fine to listen to.

Today I will take issue with this being the fifth Radiohead album in this project. Over two-thirds the way through, I believe there are other artists I haven't heard from who deserve to be here more. This just didn't stand out. That said, this often had a very cool sound that I appreciated, like you were somewhere special late, late at night with the last folks at a party. It also sounds like no one on this album had slept in days, that they were absolutely weary and dreary and barely able to stand up. Thom Yorke's vocals, in fact, sound like he's already dead and his ghost is haunting the studio.

I am growing somewhat fond of Radiohead. Kind of a moody groove that I could slip into today, although it wouldn't fit me every day

I love Kid A so it is little wonder I love this too. It might be a little less broody and dark but still packs a punch. One of the great albums to feed the disillusionment time has bestowed upon me.

It's impossible to talk about this album without talking about the companion album, Kid A. Originally planned as a double album, Radiohead decided to break the massive recording sessions into two releases. That decision allowed Kid A to shine on its own. Amnesiac is the less impressive of the two albums but helped solidify their status as one of the best bands of the 2000s and not limited to their electronic direction of the last album. When these two albums were reissued together, it was a joy to hear then side by side as orginally intended. But it needed to have been separated at the time to have worked.

So much going on on this album, lots of mood shifts, interesting instrumentation and arrangements. They really expand their range and for the most part it's satisfying, but I know they have even better albums I should listen to again. I do like it a lot!

Some pretty great Radiohead tracks on this but there’s also a few less interesting or lack luster cuts as well but I’m pretty sure this is made from the same recording session as kid a unless I’m talkin out of my ass. Would def give it a listen if you already like Radiohead but this def isn’t the first Radiohead record I’d show to someone. I'm a big Radiohead fan so this is straightforward for me. This is a musically strange random album about fear and isolation. It is one of the greatest albums ever created. Considered by many to be the rejects from KidA but there are many tracks on here I consider very highly and in fact better than on the earlier album.

The album encapsulates the worst emotions, the sheer eeriness of these tracks is harrowing to me (in a good way). There is not a single bad song on this album, I love how the experimental and haunting nature of the record intertwine with each other. early 2000’s radiohead is the best radiohead. definitely their most sonically diverse album ever. perfect blend between all hail the thief (my fav album of theirs) and kid a. fav songs: pakt like sardines in a crushd tin can, pulk/pull revolving doors, i might be wrong, like spinning plates, life in a glasshouse.

I'm very glad that Radiohead decided to separate Kid A and Amnesiac instead of making a double album, because the net products are a great album, and this album. Amnesiac feels like a less whole album to me; it almost feels like session B-sides. There are some gems in here though, so it's not all that bad. But off the top of my head, it's easily in the bottom-3 of Radiohead albums.

Radiohead is on the list of bands that every time I hear their work, my listening ears are intensely interested, yet somehow I don't pursue their music. However, as with other bands on that list (like Muse), I had a strong feeling they'd grow on me, and this album seems to building a case for that theory. Radiohead calls to mind for me bands like Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, and Muse, not so much in the content of their compositions and performances but in their ever-evolving approach to music. Like those other bands I love, they seem to work hard not to repeat themselves, and I admire that. To me, it's one of the most difficult places to reach in one's art: finding new ways to express oneself without simply experimenting for experimentation's sake. I don't claim any clairvoyance and I am as easily fooled as anyone, I suppose. I can only share my own personal subjective experience with the art as I encounter it. I'll definitely come back to this album and I'm motivated more now to explore their catalog.

I've loved Kid A ever since it came out, but I never realized this album existed. I've never paid much attention to Radiohead otherwise, for shame. That said, it's basically just Kid A part 2, so I obviously loved it!

I must admit I always looked down on Kid A’s less popular brother, it had come out too quickly after the world was blown away that it kind of felt like a cash out. And besides Radiohead at the time were harping about both albums being written at the same time meaning it felt like a b-side album. But now, after all these years with fresh ears - it’s a good one - probably one of the more underestimate neo-Radiohead records, albeit a bit on the darker side, it’s still a gripping listen.

I always fall asleep when listening to Radiohead, so I think it was good but missed the last few tracks. It’s their typical “music from an advanced form of intelligence” format. Lost of odd sounds, instrumentation and lyrics that are passive aggressive. 4/5

This is about the point where they lost me. I loved The Bends and OK Computer but after that they just got a little too downbeat and drony.

I know it's meant to be a big album but it was relaxing and a bit boring to me, sorry 2 stars.

Not a huge Radiohead fan. Album was mediocre.

This was the point at which I started liking Radiohead's album covers more than the music. I miss the guitars. It's not even that this sounds bad and several moments draw me in, but this also puts me to sleep after a bit. I'm an old man and I require an old man's rock n roll. I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, and Life in a Glasshouse are all standouts. It just ain't the experience I want going in.

I'm seemingly immune to the charms of this band. I scored Limp Bizkit one star higher than this album the other day. You know what? I'm not wrong.

I'm gonna blow up the curve here slightly. Genuinely expected to be cool on this one after not listening to it for a number of years, but I enjoyed almost all of it. In fact, I really quite like the back half of it from "I Might Be Wrong" onward through to the end. It's moody and explores a bit without ever feeling too tedious or dull to me. And then the whole thing culminates with a jazzy sad ditty. What can I say? It works for me.

Not bad, Thom, not bad. Radiohead: the band I’ve tried and tried and tried again to get into, but I just didn’t get it. However! I enjoyed Amnesiac. It had all that experimental Radiohead stuff, but some cohesiveness, too. There were elements of jazz, electronic and rock music with Thom Yorke’s haunting voice. Enjoyable. Best tracks: Pyramid Song, Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors and I Might Be Wrong. This album makes me a bit more excited for several upcoming Radiohead albums in the future.

I've always been under the impression that Amnesiac was a b-sides album, but understanding that it was recorded with the intention of essentially being a split double album seems to ring truths to me now I'm relistening to it. There's definitely purpose to the album that I didn't hear before. As for the review, it's Radiohead. Easy 5. Something about these guys just resonates so hard with me through this time. Definitely didn't at the time, but as I get older they sound stronger and better.

Listened Before? N I've never heard any part of this album before. I believe this is the 4th or 5th Radiohead album I've gotten off this list now, and it's my least favorite. Not bad, just not anything that stands out. It's slow and weird and I'm not high enough for it. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Knives Out

This is what comes to my mind when I think about Radiohead, and unfortunately is the worst Radiohead album I got on the 1001 list (this is the sixth Radiohead album I got here). It's sad that, since they are a band I like, the "standard" song that comes to my mind is not their best work and instead is this one. This is a 2-star album with an extra point for the excellent jazzy last song.

Siento que Thom descolla más que nunca acá. Y las baterías??? puffff un descontrol. Las capas de viola... nah nah que maravilla de disco por favor. Gracias Radiohead por existir, sos como el mar y las montañas.

I like the vibe

The first three tracks are Radiohead leaning way too hard into what made OK Computer unique--musically, that's not an interesting way to start an album. But then the rest of the tracks are leaning into what made OK Computer good, which is the music ultimately. Still a really good album, but this is a pretty massive step back from OK Computer. Favorite track: Knives Out

I forgot how good Hunting Bears is. This album in general is better than I recall but that song in particular is great. I’m not sure Radiohead has a bad album. This is a 4 star

There were some nice tracks in here, but unfortunately there were a few too many that felt like just whininess on top of dissonance. It had potential but some of the artistic choices were just a bit over the top.

Solid album, very smooth to listen to

Amnesiac (and Miles Davis' In A Silent Way) has contributed more, from a technical perspective, to the recording of popular music than any other album made in the last...60 years? Yup. I do believe this.

My favorite Radiohead album.

When I was younger I really didn't like this album, but there's at least eight good songs on this album. Many are much better live.

Radiohead is just not my vibe. I feel like I only ever hear about 1 or 2 of their songs and whenever I try another song, I just loose interest immediately. I can get behind the jazzy bit in "Life In a Glasshouse" because it's not just a solo whinefest.

Radiohead at its finest. Weird, enigmatic and very memorable.

Despite this feeling like a reminder of a musical phase I'm no longer a part of (I loved many of the Radiohead records when I was younger but never really spent time with Amnesiac) the electronic textures, melodies, and endless eerie/melancholy moods still hit me in a special way. When this music matches your mood, it's sublime. One star deducted for the fact that there aren't many tracks that jump out as individually memorable with the possible exception of Pyramid Song because of all the hooplah surrounding its time signature.

I like this era of Radiohead quite a bit. This, OK Computer and Kid A are a holy trinity to me. This may be the weakest of the bunch as it's something of Kid A leftovers, but its still great.

I've never listened to this as an album before (as opposed to individual songs off it). It's great! Still only 4* - more an 8/10 than a 9/10.

Genesis for Pixies fans. Now, reconciling the tension between alt rock and prog rock is no mean feat. But I'm real tired of hearing how everything before Radiohead was banging on rocks, while everything after is a cheap knockoff. I Might Be Wrong can stay.

Sleepy stuff. However, I will say that the album is appropriately titled. Five minutes after it was done playing, I couldn't remember why I'd listened to it in the first place.

Genres: Experimental rock, electronica, alternative rock Formed: Run time: 11 songs, 43 min, 57 sec All the tracks have at least 8M plays on Spotify, many have over 30M and “Pyramid Song” has over 60M plays. They have a very good following! This album is so depressing. I can’t imagine who the target audience are. If you weren’t down before listening, you would be by the end. If you were already depressed, it would tip you over the edge. I can see they aren’t afraid to experiment and they are blazing there own trail, which is commendable in a world of commercialised crap. It’s just not for me. My Rating: ***

Love Radiohead, love some tracks on here. But it's possibly their weakest album.

Oh nooo I did not like this album. I cannot say anything positive about this. His voice was bad the music was bad bad bad. I did not like this.

Next cloudless night you're out in the country - far away from any city lights - get in the car and find an isolated place to park, then put on the song "Pyramid Song" at top volume, turn out all the lights, and lie down and stare up at the universe. It will change your life. Additionally 20 years on and I still can't entirely get the timing right on that song. Which I kind of enjoy that it's still a challenge. (also: if your wife hates Radiohead this album *really* isn't gonna change her mind and I'm not gonna push it (e.g. "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors" on the stereo would get me a tent in the backyard without a key to the door).) Related: this one is gonna have an absolute deluge of 5s and 1s. I get it. This (and "Kid A") was my gateway to breaking out and discovering a wider world of electronic rock/pop. The sheer variety of music on this album is just whacked; just thinking of the percussion sounds alone: digital tickety-tack, noise-percussion, then standard acoustic kit (the latter esp. on "Knives Out" which is arguably the most "normal" song on the album but with the standard Radiohead disquieting chord progressions). Electronic washes and digital manipulations ("Pulk/Pull...", "Like Spinning Plates") - utterly bizarre and almost incomprehensible yet it all works. Truthfully, the album falters just a bit in the second half on a song-quality level (n.b. I'm not a big fan of this version of "Morning Bell" - the Kid A version for me is unassailable, this is oddly too straightforward, almost plodding); it was *almost* enough for me to dock it a star, but the impact this album had on my overall music listening is probably something I'd not thought enough about. I wouldn't call this my favourite Radiohead album because ... well oddly partly because of everything above (i.e. difficulty/entry level: HIGH). At the same time it came out at the exact perfect time in history and my life to change everything. Played amidst or just thinking of the backdrop of 2001 is forcing the issue but holyshit was it the right soundtrack for the apocalyptical shit that launched in that year and has never ended since. Amnesiac is more of a "whole is greater than the sum of its parts" vibe and taken as a singular 43 minute unit it's in my pantheon of most-influential (to me) albums. 9/10 5 stars

Another Radiohead album on the 1001 list. Like my previous reviews I really like Radiohead but I think one would be enough. Amnesiac is more experimental than Kid A but still very accessible. It's not my favorite album from their discography of even in the top 3. I would recommend listening to Kid A or OK computer instead. Even though it's good it doesn't fit the list of must listen albums before you die.

Like it's predecessor, Kid A, an interesting album that has its ups and downs. On this one, I definitely enjoyed the tracks that followed a bit more traditional rock structures more than the more experimentally electronic ones. I can imagine that this one might grow on me and get 5 stars on a subsequent listen. But after a first spin it's a 4 for me. Highlight: Life In A Glasshouse

Was tempted to give this album a 5/5 just because it's Radiohead, but honestly, it's always been one of their weaker albums in my mind. Simply fantastic. Not my favourite Radiohead album but nevertheless it is great.

For whatever reason, I never really got into any Radiohead albums after OK Computer (which I very much like). Amnesiac is fine, just whatever the thing was that "got me" with OK Computer wasn't quite there for me on this album. Maybe it needs several listens to "get it"?

While I do enjoy some songs of theirs, I am generally pretty indifferent to them. This wasn’t a bad album but I feel like it’s more atmospheric than anything, like something you’d have on in the background of a small group gathering where everyone is really high. 2.5/5, rounded up to 3/5.

I've always thought that if Radiohead had released this before Kid A, then everyone would probably be gushing over Amnesiac instead. It's quite obvious that they are two halves to the same thing, and I'd feel a bit disingenuous giving it another rating. It's awesome.

Overall, this was amazing! The first 5 songs were the best in the album and the last 6 is where the album started to get boring for me. But nevertheless I enjoyed it very much!

I love Radiohead but this is probably my least favourite album after their debut. I think a lot of the songs are really abrasive, but Radiohead are still great and “pyramid song” and “I might be wrong” are two of their best songs. So there are some good songs here but I’m not sure both this and Kid A needed to be included.

I've always had an affinity for this album. When it was released, I think Amnesiac was generally regarded as a lesser album than Kid A, but there is a warmness to these songs that I think is missing from Kid A. Maybe its the red album cover. I love Life in a Glass House, but so many of the songs rank in my top Radiohead tracks.

Ya gotta love some Radiohead! First listen through of this album tho! Very good coming right after Kid A I still think this album holds up next to it! Really nice music for this whole album! Did not disappoint!

Love Radiohead. Always playing with the formula and trying new toys.

There are some bands that you have to see live for the hype to make any sense and Radiohead is one of them. But since I am reviewing their album and not their concerts, I have to say this was pretty disappointing. Felt like the same whiny, boring song 11 times in a row.

Probably my favorite radiohead album. Just as experimental as kid a, but it feels less cold and isolated. This one has a bit of the warmer, more organic feeling sounds of later albums while still making you cry.

Pretty solid album with three or so weak tracks. I like the incorporation of various music genres, such as electronica and jazz. The songs fit together and have the ability to transform your brain into another world. Favorite Songs: Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army, and I Might Be Wrong.

5th Radiohead album served to me here, none of them my favourite Radiohead album. And here I was, thinking I already got the point. But it's not just Radiohead fatigue: this one feels completely redundant, and not only because of the annoying squeaky vocals.

Stop with the Radiohead albums. They are not good. I was bored and annoyed the entire time. The songs aren't memorable and are bad. I suffered through it. Radiohead is at least consistent in releasing bad albums. No need to revisit.

Weird and interesting.

I went into this not liking Amnesiac a huge amount. I always saw it as just leftovers from Kid A that weren't as good as Kid A. But on this listen I found a lot more appreciation for it. It felt weirdly hopeful and curious, whereas Kid A was just bleak and stark. The closing track is this multi-layer orchestral piece that feels like the cheerful closing credits to the duo of Kid A/Amnesiac, the band basically saying "thank you for coming on this journey, we hope you enjoyed your stay." So while I still prefer Kid A, I have a newfound admiration for Amnesiac.

I Might Be Wrong is just so cool, that funky bass line is a joy. You and Whose Army? Wow! I've been too busy listening to write notes. Dollars and Cents just got completely under my skin. Maybe I want in the mood, but I found Kid A to be disappointing, whereas this weird collection is just magnificent.

Jeez. Okay, fine. Radiohead makes atmospheric, experimental, cerebral music. They're somewhat too cool for school and not everyone will get the music their trying to make. If you get it, they're amazing and you, as a listener, are so intelligent - a true audiophile! Because this music is only for REAL music fans. If you don't like it, you're not a REAL music fan.

This one took a few listens to grow on me. Overall, the instrumentation is very atmospheric, the vocals go from soothing to grating. I enjoyed the opening track, nice and laid back. Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors was haunting, robotic and strange, yet oddly enough may have been my favorite song on the album. I Might Be Wrong was the most cohesive song on the album.

Really good album. I feel like I missed the boat on this era of Radiohead. Great songs mixed with a few fun experimental ones.

This is a great album. I really enjoy Radiohead and their albums were big for me in high school. This and Kid A together are an amazing set of albums. For whatever reason I felt like people would always make you pick which of the two was your favorite back then and I tended to lean towards Kid A. But now I'm an adult and we don't have to choose. 5/5. This album feels the most experimental of theirs, with some tracks ("Revolving doors") that are a little hard to digest at times. Yet it also has some of Radiohead's most sublime work. "Pyramid song" might be my favorite across their whole oeuvre. "I might be wrong", "Pakt like sardines..." and "Knives out" are classics. I can't not give it 5.

I think Radiohead are at their best when experimenting, and this is an incredibly experimental album at times even by their standards! Took me a while to get on bored, but I think this is a grower. Im a bit of a Radiohead fan, but I’d actually never heard of this one before. Turns out it was originally going to be a double album with Kid A but they decided it would’ve been too dense. Good call. The more this went on; the more I liked it. Not sure I agree with all of the plaudits just yet - it certainly isn’t as good as In Rainbows / OK Computer / Kid A / Hail to the Thief (imo), BUT I think given a few more listens I might redact that statement. The more it goes on the better it sounds. In Rainbows is pinnacle Radiohead for me, and when this started I wasnt sure it was on the same path, but by the end I was sold.

Great, the outtakes album for Kid A, the album that sounds like a bunch of outtakes. There is about half a really good album across both and there were some songs on this I enjoyed (pyramid song is a belter) but haway Radiohead, you can't just pad it into a double album with a bunch of offcuts. I feel like I'm really close to being a big Radiohead fan but this sort of thing puts me off.

It feels like this is the late to the party missing link between „OK Computer“ & „Kid A“. Some songs really are remarkable but as an album it doesn’t work for me. Especially since this list lacks so many other incredible masterpieces Radiohead‘s segue‘ish collection makes no sense to be featured here. 2.5

I was really thinking when I clicked the button it was gonna be like a Yardbirds album, but nope!! We got Amnesiac instead. This is some of the very best music in the world. The best band of our generation. The paradigm schism. What else can I say. Everything is basically perfect. I kept thinking about all the styles and all the instruments on this one album and how masterfully they are orchestrated. Just tip top.

I'm a reasonable man, but you've gotta admit this isn't as good as their other stuff, either before or after. Still a five, tho.

Even as a follow-up to “OK Computer,” “Kid A” and “Amnesiac” were bold moves by Radiohead. The music is sweeping, challenging, orchestral, haunting, electronic, discordant, pulling the listener into an aural storm. “Kid A” remains on the 1001, while “Amnesiac” has been removed in later editions. I think this is the right call, although I love parts of both albums. But “Kid A” had the biggest impact, as the direct extension of the “OK Computer” evolution. Both albums came out of the same recording sessions, so it's fitting to choose just one as essential Or maybe replace them both with the 2021 double album reissue? Whether you love it or hate it, I think this absolutely fits the bill as music that you’ve gotta listen to at least once in your lifetime.

Very interesting stuff here. I Might Be Wrong is my favorite. A 3.5. It’s a bit too concept-y to round up (Life In A Glass House).

Utterly forgettable - slow, whiney, and boring

Holy shit this was boring. I wouldn't listen to this album again if I got paid to do so. Amnesiac, Noun 'a person experiencing a partial or total loss of memory' Sign me up for this to remove this album from my memory.

Pull/Pull Revolving Doors is the ugliest song I’ve ever heard. The rest of the album is tied for 2nd worst song.

Three songs in, this album is WAY ahead of its time. Love the use of electronic elements. So far I can't predict anything. Notable tracks - I Might Be Wrong Knives Out Overall pretty solid and unpredictable. Seems like a good jumping off point for more Radiohead for me... 8/10

The OK stuff is OK. Merely OK. Not great. The terrible stuff is absolutely awful. This is one of those albums that the britpop music ponces cream themselves over. To them, this album is genius. If you don't like the awful, talentless thrashing of the bad stuff it's simply that you're too stupid to appreciate the craftmanship and the beauty of the Emperor's new clothes. I have briefly considered giving this two stars, given that there genuinely are a few listen-toable tracks in here. Unfortunate that the overwhelming wankiness totally obviates that.

Companion piece to Kid A and the resemblence is unmistakeable one can easily see that they are from them same sessions. Not as immediately bracing and engaging as Kid A. Less focused in approach so can't help but seem less groundbreaking and forward looking. It has some stellar moments, however; Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army, Knives Out, I Might Be Wrong and Morning Bell which is unexplicably on both Kid A and Amnesiac. But there are also pieces of 100% filler. Can't help but wonder how great an album we would have ended up with they had released just one all killer / no filler album from these sessions. Still a fine album that I was happy to discover 3.5 stars

It stuffers from having followed a masterpiece and therefore is always compared to it, which led to this being referred to as "Kid B" in some corners. In truth, it's something of a letdown coming after both OK Computer and Kid A. Christ, it sounds like I'm underselling this album. It's still great. Being the 3rd best Radiohead album isn't anything to be ashamed of.

Kid A’s twin brother that languished outside the spotlight, but that’s almost fitting given how introspective and isolated this album feels. Yorke and company turn the slightly-off synths and excellent guitar work inward for a darker mirror image of the already heavy Kid A, and the end result is a tight, claustrophobic LP that suggests something dark and formless just beneath the surface. Excellent instrumental work (especially guitar) on this one, creative songwriting in spades, and just some overall great tracks (even if I can’t listen to them when I’m depressed). One wonders if this album was meant to live in the A shadows, as that’s where it finds the most gripping examination of loss and isolation put to wax.

We Kid A was intended as a double album. This is effectively Kid B. It is often seen as the runt Dublin but I think it is as good. Some electronic noodling and I know Thoms voice turns some people off. Essential 21st century music.

A dreamy, spacey, and unique iteration on the Radiohead sound; I really appreciated the jazz/brass elements they incorporated into their sound. "You and Whose Army?" and "Morning Bell / Amnesiac" were so good!!

Who goes to see Radiohead?

I did not know that this was going to be a double album with Kid A and was produced at the same time but then separated because it had too much in it for one double. I absolutely love this, super beautiful and unusual and catchy. Morning Bell/Amnesiac has been in my head for weeks now for some reason so really nice to listen to that. I don't know how he writes these tracks, so mystical.

Well this isn't my favourite Radiohead. I would say the weakest of the albums around that time that I absolutely love. Feel like this one is more reflective of Thom Yorke's solo stuff. I did enjoy most of it but it left me unmoved compared to albums like Pablo Honey

Was my least favourite Radiohead album when I was younger and first got in to them, now love it. Like Spinning Plates is a beautiful song (really recommend listening to the live piano version on the I Might Be Wrong EP). Also love the version of Morning Bell on this album compared to the one on Kid A. They were pumping out so much great stuff in those 1999-2000 recording sessions.

That's cool. I mean, this album offers you a broad variety of genres, also incorporating unusual moves.

Amnesiac is the very worst of Radiohead, it's desperately boring and mostly crap. Some of their stuff is okay to me, much of it isn't my thing, but this sucks. 1.

I struggle with Radiohead a bit, to be honest. Find it very up and down, a lot of miserable dirges with a few real highlights where things come together for me. Unfortunately, on this album, they don't really. There's a decent little stretch from You and Whose Army to Knives Out, but other than that not a lot that works for me. That said, I probably will listen to it a bit more - I haven't heard this one before, and it does feel like the kind of album that's a grower rather than a shower. Feel a bit mean giving it a 2, but doesn't do enough for me to get to 3.

Their musicality and intelligence in songwriting is always apparent, but they simply fail to create something that just doesn’t sound boring.

Great album but I need to be a bit in the right mood to appreciate the voice of Thom Yorke and the Morning Bell version does fit but is less good than the version on Kid A. Anyways, I liked it then and like it now so let me give it the full stars it deserves.

This is the Radiohead album that won me over. Probably still my favourite, along with Kid A.

Collection of wonderful songs that remain intact under heavy experimentation. Just listen to Like Spinning Plates.

The Bends and OK Computer are close to works of genius. Everything since then leaves me cold. This one sounds like he's boring himself to sleep. If I ever feel the need to get depressed I'll spin this one.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge Radiohead fan. I’ve heard OK Computer and In Rainbows, and while I appreciate them for their talent and creativity, it isn’t something that speaks to me. Not to say this doesn’t have its moments, however. I loved the more atmospheric tracks in the back end. The title track is euphoric, and Hunting Bears tells a lot in its simplicity. The moments I don’t dig as much are the harder hitters; Yorke’s vocals are quite grating on the opening track, for one. The ending tracks feel flat, too, which was a note I had for the whole album but it became prominent at the end. Still, I don’t regret listening to this. Some of my favorite Radiohead tracks land on this project, which is why I rate it above average. It’s just a bit of a slog to get there.

You ever notice that when Radiohead puts out a new album, everyone and their mother talks about it for a week or two and then you don’t really hear anyone talk about Radiohead again until the next album cycle? Kind of weird, right? Following the trio of Ok Computer, Kid A and Amnesiac, Radiohead earned a mythological status: Every record was destined to be a game changer before it even hit the shelves…they were the greatest band in the world, constantly inventing, revolutionizing modern rock…blah, blah, blah. Just look at the reviews on this site for Radiohead records: There’s so much superfluous verbiage and hyperbole about this band that you’d think I was the one writing all the reviews. (Look at that, I’m being self-effacing…it’s truly the dawn of a new year and, more importantly, a new me.) The hype train gets revved up hard before every Radiohead release and a lot of the time, the final product doesn’t live up to the hype. Don’t believe me? Go dust off your Hail to the Thief and King of Limbs CD’s and reminisce about how great you anticipated those records would be. I’m told In Rainbows is an exception, I’ll have to wait until the generator recommends it to really find out. …but you know what? Maybe the hype was earned at one point. Amnesiac, essentially a collection of cast-offs from the Kid A sessions, is better than an album of leftovers has any right to be. It’s sort of an alternate reality Kid A, just a bit more scattershot, weird and less memorable. The problem for Radiohead is that the unbearable weight of hype eventually comes crashing down, as we saw with Hail to the Thief and King of Limbs. You build up enough hype, eventually people are going to be let down. Both of those records, I feel it’s worth pointing out, were follow-ups to critically lauded albums (Kid A/Amnesiac and In Rainbows, respectively) and were considered disappointing. So Radiohead ended up kind of stuck in this cycle, where every record was expected to be a revolutionary, forward-thinking game changer and a massive amount of anticipation accompanies each release. From an artistic standpoint, it’s got to be an immense pressure: trying to create something that exceeds not only your previous attempts, but also the expectations of the world. I guess my point in all this is that Radiohead, as good as they can be, aren’t infallible and its necessary to separate the actual finished product from what hype dictates. Is Amnesiac a ‘greatest of all time’ record based off its songs, production and experimentation or is it getting more credit than it deserves because the seed has been planted (by fans, the press, PR teams) that Radiohead is the greatest, most innovative band in the world and anything they do is important? Amnesiac is a very solid record, but can you die without having heard it? I think so. St. Peter’s not going to ding you one at the pearly gates because you never heard “Dollars & Cents”. Most of what you hear on Amnesiac is not that far off from Kid A, stylistically speaking. There are some great songs on Amnesiac. Several classics for Radiohead fans, I’m sure, but a lot of the album sounds a little same-y, like they had an idea of what they wanted Kid A to sound like and these songs are the experiments on the way to getting there.

2.5ish stars. Personally, I think Radiohead has a sweet spot between modern rock and postmodern experimental... this is over the experimental line for me.

I tried unsuccessfully with this album when it was released twenty years ago. To me, it was something like an incoherent sequence of beeps and “ahhs” wrapped in an snobby marketing package. However, when I listened to it last night, I got it. It took me two decades to understand it, but finally I got it. Guess that good music is untimely and wait for us to be mature enough to appreciate it. Only when the time is right.

Refreshing. Very interesting, cohesive, artistic and weird album. Def inspired How Much a Dollar Cost by kendrick. Very Dope, something I look forward to hearing again, not sure what genre it is tho.

With this record, it felt like Radiohead was continuing a trend starting from the brilliant Kid-A to make themselves more unrecognizeable musically following the massive critical and commercial success of Ok Computer. Applaud their artistic ambition at the time, and there are moments here to be sure (Pyramid Song, I Might Be Wrong) but the band really make some left turns and it doesn't always resonate. Sometimes it sounds plain weird. In the end they probably had to go through these few series of records to get to the other side towards some of their later fine and mature work.

Big Radiohead fan, so there's a fair bias here. Not my favorite album if theirs, but still a banger.

I don't care that these are like Kid A B sides, this is one of my favorite Radiohead albums. I even like it more than Kid A. I've heard people think the opposite but I think these songs go well together. And the whole album has a unique sound and feel to it.

Yay, another Radiohead album less than a week after my first one. I definitely liked this one more than my previous one, Hail to the Thief. The first three songs didn't do much for me, but it was pretty good after that. I'm hoping I'll like that other Radiohead albums on this list even more. My favourite songs were Knives Out and Morning Bell/Amnesiac.

So much more textured and warm than Kid A. Subtle; rewards deep listening. Rich with inventive melodies and delicious tension. Reminds you Radiohead is actually a good band despite being memed to death.

I love the horns in “living in a glasshouse” it’s one of the best endings for an album- so classic. I love all the weird rhythm stuff in sardines and revolving doors. Drums in pyramid song make the tune. Morning bell is one of my favorite Radiohead songs - I love the contrast from the verse and choruses.

I don’t know this record as well as some of their others, but I’ll definitely be coming back to this one. Quintessential Radiohead, amazing songwriting and really interesting arrangements.

They are so good. Each album is a complete album and so different. No song pops out for me and I rarely go back and listen to this album but I think they get a 5 just for cohesion and production.

Never listened to Radiohead. Quite interesting, but lacks a bit of cohesion. Weak start for me, feels like it just got interesting with the three last songs.

For an album that’s often considered Kid A’s reheated leftovers, Radiohead still manage moments of incredible beauty and complexity. Jonny Greenwood is in especially fine form here.

This was good. But it wasn't mind blowing by any stretch. There were some amazing riffs here but I never got past the impression that Radiohead is super proud of themselves. This album is pretentious. But it is also pretty good and I can't argue with the musicianship.

OK Computer is my all time favourite album - when this came out it was seen as "The weird one" but listening to it again all these years later it really isn't all that difficult to listen to. I really enjoyed this and the time away from it has given it some room to stand on its own for me.

Amnesiac was a really good album, I didn't understand how it could be finished when it stoped playing. Maybe not my everyday go to genre but definitely something I am into and would like to listen to again.

Quinto álbum de la banda que más triunfó uniendo la experiencia de rockear con la de experimentar. Son tan minuciosos a la hora de componer, que abruma del solo pensarlo. Encontrando siempre alternativas para que su sonido suene tal cual lo quieren, y rompiéndose la cabeza para que esté todo en su sitio. Es un trabajo quirúrgico. En éste álbum de rock experimental, el cuál mezcla muchos sonidos tanto del jazz como la electrónica, termina dando una experiencia grandilocuente y épica. Es muy satisfactoria la escucha, al tener tramos ambient que te transportan a otra dimensión, sin duda. Es atractiva la producción y cómo cada instrumento, que ciertamente, fue interpretado, grabado y producido de la forma más particular que se ocurra para que suene exactamente cómo lo pensaban los integrantes de la banda. Usando también samples, cintas de grabaciones antiguas, instrumentos poco convencionales, aprovecharon al máximo esa faceta, para así darnos un proyecto el cual su atractivo vaya por la música, cómo así, por su grabación tan particular.

These guys clearly obviously have got something special about them because of how they’re regarded and I’m trying my very best to get on board This one didn’t really do it for me

Probably a 2.5. I imagine it gets better on more listens. People have said to me if you like pink floyd then you might like radiohead. Not sure about that.

My least favourite Radiohead album we will have on this list. For me it starts to get good too late. I think from ‘I Might Be Wrong’ its sound but that is track 5. I do love Radiohead though and this is one of those times I am comparing it to what they can do rather than this list.

No. everything from the deliberately difficult to understand vocals, slow as possible song openings to even the album work with the sketch on a book of a crying person everything screams "I'm misunderstood and special, not like the rest of the world". The music itself is Radiohead at their worst, dull and depressing while still being impenetrable.

Impressive, nothing that really caught my attention for long though. Will listen again
