Joni Mitchell
2/5
#503 : Hejira : 16/06/2025
I don't love it, it's a bit meh. It’s like she’s just kinda rhythmically talking and there happens to be music playing in the background. Every song sounds exactly the same and nothing grabbed or stood out for me. Shrug

# 375 : Enjoyable enough but nothing that makes it standout. Another album which makes you reconsider whether there are as many as 1,001 albums you must listen to before you die.
Honourable mention : See No Evil

David Holmes

# 533 : Let's Get Killed
Tried listening to "Let's Get Killed" by David Holmes, but it felt more like "Let's Get Irritated." I kept waiting for it to click, but instead it just clicked off. If this album inspired anyone, I hope they were inspired to make something else. Honestly, if I were hit by a bus tomorrow, my final thought wouldn’t be, “Oh no, I never finished that David Holmes album!” More likely: “At least I didn’t.”
Worth a listen : Nothing stood out

# 401 : Can't Listen, don't like it, I'm not sure it inspired anyone, but if the music isn't good, I'm not sure I need to hear it before I die. I can't imagine getting hit by a bus and my last thought being, "But I never got to that album about being "A Bird Now"!".

Sufjan Stevens

Halfsharkalligatorhalfman.
The Kinks
4/5
# 11. Pleasant, Classic Kinks is always a good listen, Sunny Afternoon is great, maybe their best song ever.
The Who
4/5
# 12. Mono Version: Not bad for a debut album I guess, A bit trashy, but that might be because it is over 50 years old - waiting for the remastered version. I love My Generation (the single).
Stan Getz
2/5
# 13 - Zingy; Good listening music.
Mudhoney
3/5
# 14 : Solid grunge rock, pretty standard sound for the genre. Nothing exciting, but I liked Pokin' Around.
Devendra Banhart
2/5
# 15: MEH! Sounds like something my granddad would play around the campfire. Nothing special. You'd probably have to be a musicians musician to appreciate this. My favourite track: Fall
The Cure
2/5
#16: Um… I don't see what the hype is about this album. Long drawn out instrumental sections made it slow. 116 on the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of all time. Favourite track for me was Lullaby.
Amy Winehouse
3/5

# 18: Pump It Up! Nice beats, good vibes
Cat Stevens

#19: I've been looking forward to this one. Such clean guitar acoustics and soulful lyrics. Seriously thought it would be higher on the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums list (205) though.
Best song : Father And Son.
Ute Lemper
1/5
#20: I don’t not like this. Its ok I guess, but not something I'll rush back to. Kind of boring with a beat. One of those records you see in market stalls that no body buys.
The Case Continues was the best song for me.
Sigur Rós
1/5
# 21: electronic leads, dreamy in its delivery, but weird. Music to fall asleep by. Over 1 hour of suffering! I guess it's good if you can understand it?
Leonard Cohen
1/5
# 22 : More music to fall asleep by. Don't listen and drive! Hahaha. Very slow and mellow, but clear and crisp. I found myself skipping tracks to get through this.
ZZ Top
3/5
#23 : Good Fun. What's not to love about ZZ. Rock solid all the way through.
Gimme All Your Lovin'
Baaba Maal
2/5
# 24 : Plucky guitar with African (Senegal) lyrics. Sounded pleasant. Same whiny old songs throughout. Too long and repetative for me. Cool sound though.
Tracy Chapman
3/5
# 25 : I've always liked fast car and I found this a pleasant album with some good listening songs. 256 on Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time!
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
3/5
# 26 : guitar rock! Plenty of riffs, not much singing, maybe that’s what we want IDK?
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
# 27 : Bruce Springsteen's one of those guys I don't see what all the hype is about. Some nice epic and emotional stuff, but I found it a little boring.
Lightning Bolt
1/5
# 29 : THRASH! All over the place. Loud and noisy, but I guess that is the idea. Hard to follow what was going on.
Venom
2/5
# 30 : Sounds like it was recorded during a jam session in their garage.
Hüsker Dü
3/5
# 31 : this album was fun. Some foot tapping tunes and good energy in the music but a bit samey. A bit long - over an hour - but it was their last album I suppose.
Too Much Spice was my favourite song on this.
Taylor Swift
4/5
# 32 : What a super star. Catchy pop tunes, with some hits and others that should have been hits. You've got to admire everything she's achieved.
Shake It Off
Lou Reed
3/5
# 33 : Some good up beat stuff, and then some slow boring stuff I just wanted to skip, ultimately not a bad album - better then average perhaps?
Walk On The Wild Side
Eagles
4/5
# 34 : Love 'em or hate 'em this is one Classic album I could listen to again. A band at their peak.
Last In The Fast lane
Boston
4/5
# 35 : Classic rock that sounds sweet. Great songs. A real banger.
More Than A Feeling
The Beach Boys
3/5
# 36 : Sound is crap for a remaster! Harmonies are good as you'd expect from them, but the lyrics... yuk! - the second half was a snooze fest!
Help Me Rhonda
Elliott Smith
2/5
# 37 : SNORE slow and boring. A bit of plucky guitar licks and stretched out lyrics to make up 3 minute songs. Nothing special.
Hugh Masekela
2/5
# 38 : Probably alright if you're into slow trumpet jazz. I am not.
Maseru was a bit of alright.
Blue Cheer
2/5
# 39 : good thing it is only short, lots of noise of distorted riffs and heavy drumming. Not much of a song / album structure.
Liz Phair
2/5
# 40 : Yeah.. Nah... Not terrible, but not great either, Not influenced by her, sorry not my thing.
Flower - Wow!
Nirvana
4/5
# 41 : Whoop Whoop! Finally something good. LOL.
Breed
3/5
# 42 : Something different from the list. There are some nice hits on here making it at least 3 star, but generally not that refined. They seem to start a song well, then after 1 verse and a chorus, run out of ideas so say sod it, lets just repeat the last bit we sang over and over!
Champagne Supernova was my pick
Incredible Bongo Band
2/5
# 43 : Why would you need to hear a Bongo album before you die? In saying that, it was a good laugh. CLOP, CLOP, CLOPPITTY, CLOP!
Raunchy '73
Manic Street Preachers
3/5
I hadn't heard these guys before, what a discovery! Good album.
Prefab Sprout
3/5
# 45 : Wow! What a pleasant surprise this one was. It started great and I thought I like this, but then it Got a bit boring at the end. Quiet a nice album though with some good catchy tunes and a the rest fillers, but otherwise ok.
2.5 Star
Bonny
Sly & The Family Stone
2/5
# 46 : I hate Punk, and Funk, and Junk, and this album did not change my mind. Influential sure, but not a very good listening record. 1.5 Stars.
Family Affair was the best I could find on this.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
# 47 : A great rocking album with some of their classic hits on it. Bookended by two stone cold classics but with a collection of middle of the road rock tunes in between.
Gimme Shelter
George Harrison
4/5
# 48 : I am a Beatles fan, that's why no solo work will ever get 5 stars in my view. In saying that, some of the songs on here are mega, whilst others are just so so. A lot of "B sides" that just lack the production of a truly great 5 star album. Close, but not close enough :-)
What Is Life
Hookworms
1/5
# 49 : What? Who? Why?
Peter Frampton
2/5
# 50 : Live! It was ok, but to hear it without the atmosphere, it kind of loses something. 2.5 Stars
Baby I Love Your Way
Super Furry Animals
2/5
# 51 : Bahahaha, so funny, but not jokingly. Quite uninspiring record TBH. Barely 2 stars
Receptacle For The Respectable.
Isaac Hayes
2/5
# 52 : IDK. Why the long long long….. 2 VERY BORING STARS
Pulp
3/5
# 53 : British Pop of the nineties. Pretty ordinary for the genre. Still good rhythm and melody with some good tracks and other fillers. 2 1/2 to 3 stars.
Disco 2000
Skunk Anansie
3/5
# 54 : A solid, creative rock/metal album with great vocals.
Khaled
2/5
# 55 : what? Who? Why? - The point of this whole list is to go out of your comfort zone and listen to some stuff you wouldn't choose to and this definitely fits the bill. A nice change of pace from some of the other albums we have heard so far.
Aerosmith
3/5
# 56 : Finally some hard rock different from the recent run of albums from this list. Good and fast.
Dulcimer Stomp / The Other Side.
Led Zeppelin
3/5
# 57 : Good Record, not their best but a great classic album.
Whole Lotta Love
The Killers
3/5
# 58 : Some good catchy tunes, but no real substance. Easy listening.
Mr Brightside
Sonic Youth
2/5
# 59 : Nothing special. No hype for Sonic Youth. It's pretty generic "Noise Rock" that's overrated.
Disappearer
Thundercat
2/5
# 60 : what? Who? Why? Some weird electronic custard going on
Jameel's Space Ride
Bob Dylan
3/5
# 61 : Long and droney, typical Dylan. Great story telling in his songs, but it's not much fun to listen to, unless you're high.
A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall
Solomon Burke
2/5
# 62 : When your only claim to fame is that you are in this list…
If You Need Me
Björk
2/5
# 63 : Slow and dreary, not my thing. Like the song, There's more to life than this…
Drive-By Truckers
2/5
# 64 : Good musically and the concept behind the album was great but the singer wasn’t my favourite. I was bored while listening. if you're going to do 90 minutes, you at least have to have a few songs that GRAB you, which this doesn't have. It just goes on and on and on remaining passable but never great.
Guitar Man Upstairs
King Crimson
1/5
# 65 : What bollocks. Prog rock is just random noises. It's utterly tedious.
The Talking Drum
Doves
1/5
# 66 : Ok background music, found my mind drifting off during the listen. No bangers and a bit tiresome. Songs that are so samey and nothing special.
Alice In Chains
2/5
# 67 : I thought it was ok. A bit ordinary for the genre.
Dam That River
Fleet Foxes
2/5
# 68 : When I first put this on I instantly thought that's a 2 star record, then I checked the reviews and saw the hundreds of 5 star reviews and I thought, I have to listen again, I must be missing something, but alas no, 2 Star. I Love the album artwork but The band itself is lukewarm. The album is not awful but it's not good either making me skip a few tracks to get on with it.
White Winter Himnal
The Sonics
2/5
# 69 : I thought it was very ordinary, a bit of fun, some rocking originals and covers and lots of screams. Nothing special.
Boss Hoss
Stevie Wonder
3/5
# 70 : Musically and the production is good, a couple of good songs on here. Probably the weakest album of his from this period.
You Haven't Done Nothin'
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
# 71 : Snore! Slow and sleepy. Boring as bat shit. Just Bruce and his guitar and no hits. ZZZZZZZZZ
Open All Night
Johnny Cash
3/5
# 72 : Not bad, a bit slow and samey, but who doesn't like Johnny Cash?
25 Minutes To Go
Adele
3/5
# 73 : Good Listen, Albums full of bangers. Not too bad, not a record I would choose to listen to again, but if somebody else put it on…
The Charlatans
2/5
# 74 : Ok I guess, nothing special, it's only 50 minutes or so, but seemed to go on forever. Not my thing, kind of like every pub band I listened to growing up in the nineties. Enough of the Nineties Brit Pop!
Lambchop
2/5
# 75 : It's an album. Can listen to it, but it's not really good, no hits and it made me skip a few tracks to get it over with. Nothing stood out and I wouldn't go back to it.
Elastica

# 76 : Just another meh album. All to plain and familiar. I can listen to it, but it's not exciting, no hits and nothing stood out. Wouldn't voluntarily go back to it.

Fav Track : Blitzkrieg Bop
Listened : 13/10/2023

Fatboy Slim
2/5
# 188 : Very enjoyable as repetitive background music! An exercise in repetition, and lets repeat again! solid music of the genre, but a genre I only want to listen to 1-2 songs from before I say "What The....". If it wasn't so repetitive, it might have pulled an extra star 2/5!

The State I Am In.
Sex Pistols
2/5
# 285 : I get that this one of the most influential albums of all time, but it sounds f-ing terrible, More energy then talent. I see why it was there only album...

Favourite Track : Seven Days Too Long
Animal Collective
2/5
# 288 : Wow! Trippy Album Cover Art! As for the music, I could listen to it, but it left a lot to be desired. Creative? Maybe, but it falls flat for me, an album you listen to and immediately forget…
Fave Track ; Lion In A Coma
Yes
2/5
# 290 : Not awful, in fact better then I expected. I'm just not so much into instrumentals. Not really my cup of tea. Pleasant enough sound, I just wont be going back to this. I guess there's certain moods for certain tunes and I guess I wasn't in it :-)
Simon & Garfunkel

Steve Winwood
2/5
# 293 : I don't love it, I don't hate it, I can listen to it, a couple of things stood out. Mainly track one. I can go for this type of 80s cheese sometimes. I have no particular nostalgia for this album but I was familiar with the lead track, but one classic does not make a good album.
Favourite track : While You See A Chance
New Order
2/5
# 294 : I can listen to it but it's not real good. Nothing stood out and I wouldn't go back to this. Easily forgettable.
Funkadelic
2/5
# 295 : Funky. Better then their other piece I've listened to. This was ok, but nothing that grabbed me. The title track was good, but the rest was unlistenable, and way too long, that they had to split it over two CD's!
The Strokes
3/5
# 296 : They've done a pretty decent job. I think Its OK, I could listen to it, The Strokes know how to keep it simple and just write good songs.
Fave Track : Last Nite
Dolly Parton
3/5
# 297 : Haven't really listened to Dolly outside of her hits and I found this Pleasant to listen to. Great songs, great voice, under 30 minute runtime. It packs a punch but, on the whole, a little bit boring and no song really stood out to me here, but pleasant all the same.

Favourite Track : Time With You
Joni Mitchell
3/5
# 300 : Keeping it real, nice voice and nice instrumentation (what ever it's called), not sure it’s the 3rd best album in the world (Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of all time), but it's nice and sweet. Very beautiful and heartfelt.

1/5
# 304 : sigh! Just reading the 3 line bio put me off… this was pretty awful, I feel like sometimes this list mistakes "you must listen to this ALBUM before you die" with "Hey this was popular once, or had a couple hits on it" with importance.
If You Want It, Take It was an alright track.
Janis Joplin
3/5
Elvis Costello
2/5

# 309 : Fairly generic 80s synth music for the most part, great in places and might even listen to it again.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
# 310 : Great album, I liked it a lot. It even has hit or two which is good considering it was their second album that year - probably should have banked 'em all up for a smashing end of year screamer, but anyway - I always like listening to these guys, it makes my foot tap...
Favourite Track : Commotion
Foo Fighters
3/5
# 311 ; They've done a pretty decent job, good album, I like the hits of course, Just kinda sounds like rock music, nothing too innovative or special and I wouldn't spend my hard earned on this, but I'd listen to someone else's copy again ;-)

# 315 : sigh! A one line bio. Says all you need to know… Le Freak
Talking Heads
3/5
# 316 : Good album, its ok. I am not a Talking Heads afishionado, but it's Full of catchy bops and I could go back to this. it's a bit samey and nothing spectacular, as in it seems like all the other Talking Albums I've heard so far.
Favourite track : Cities
Kelela
2/5
# 317 : I don't love it, I don't hate it, Every track sounds exactly like the track before it. It's not bad, exactly. It's just like ... I already heard that. I don't need to hear it again, thank you.
FKA twigs
1/5
# 318 : Can't Listen, don't like it, I'm not sure it inspired anyone, but if the music isn't good, I'm not sure I need to hear it before I die. I can't imagine getting hit by a bus and my last thought being, "But I never got to that album from FKA Twigs!".

Favourite Tune : Seven Seas Of Rhye
Blondie
4/5
# 326 : Great album, I liked it. Almost the perfect pop rock album. This might be one of the best albums ever created. I forget how great this stuff is, Not a bad track in the bunch. It's not until you sit and pay attention that you realise how awesome it is.
Favourite Track : One Way Or Another
Bonnie Raitt
2/5
# 327 : Started off ok but got a little boring towards the end. Nothing special and a whole lot of meh. Who did she pay to get the Grammy?
Another album which makes you reconsider whether there are as many as 1,001 albums you MUST listen to before you die.
Best song : Nobody's Girl
David Bowie
2/5
# 328 : Well I can listen to it but it's not real good. I liked Heroes of course, but the album is very ordinary throughout the rest of it.
Not his best work at all. It was a little better on the second listen, but it could still do with out the meditation music in the middle.
I feel like sometime this list mistakes "you MUST listen to this album before you die" with "Hey this artist was popular, or the album had a couple hits on it" with importance.
Hereos was the best.
Little Simz
2/5
# 329 : Kind of cool, It was better then i was expecting. I'm not into British hip hop, modern hip hop, Rap, or even people with little in their names, but this wasn't bad. I'm not sure I'd listen to it again but i didn't hate it.
Michael Jackson
4/5
# 330 : They've done a pretty decent job, great album, I like the hits of course, but this is a fun album and it really gets you in a good mood. Second side is not as much fun, But it's still great. I Can't Help that it had me tapping my feet the whole time!

Wild Beasts
1/5
# 332 : This album was so ordinary and it blended into the background so much that I actually forgot I was listening to it. Nothing exciting here, and I wonder, if the people that rate something 5 stars actually listened to what they are rating?
Q-Tip
2/5
# 333 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. I thought it was very ordinary and Quiet forgettable. I probably won't go back to this.
Jefferson Airplane
3/5
# 334 : They've done a pretty decent job, good album, I like the hits of course but the rest of the record pales in comparison to those two hits, but it’s enjoyable overall. This band is clearly at their best when they’re playing in rock mode rather than folky acoustic shit.
Favourite track : Somebody To Love.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
3/5
Cocteau Twins
2/5
# 336 : All the songs sound the same. I thought it was ok and I could listen to it. Its not awful, though nothing really stood out to me.
The B-52's

# 388 : Argh country! Usually not my cup of tea but very listenable with just the right amount of country + rock'n'roll.
Dwight Yoakam
2/5
# 339 : Argh More Country! Two in a row! This album does have it's merits and a lot of twang, Some great guitar picking, fiddling and accordion here. Plenty of clever country lyrics too, TWANGY country's just not my cup of tea.
Queen
3/5
# 340 : They've done a pretty decent job, great album, I like the hits of course, massive production undertaking here.
Favourite track : Bohemian Rhapsody
Jurassic 5
2/5
# 341 : I don't love it, I don't hate it, I can listen to it but the album drags on. This is another album I’ll forget about by tomorrow good background music, nothing distinctive. Way too long for the style.
The Who
2/5
# 342 : Kind of rubbish. Should have given up and went straight to Tommy. But I do like "I Can See For Miles"
Buzzcocks
3/5
# 343 : They've done a pretty decent job, good album, it’s enjoyable and fun overall despite sounding very samey throughout. Not much musical ability required to make early Brit punk, just sayin'.
Favourite Track : Get On Our Own
Todd Rundgren
3/5
# 344 : Loved the Cool album art straight away, Iconic in itself! They've done a pretty decent job, kind of cool, never heard this guy before and it made me sit up and take notice, but blends into like one long song. What is meant by "has since been recognized for its influence on later generations of bedroom musicians?..." All up a good record worth a second listen.
Favourite track : Is It My Name
Guns N' Roses
4/5
# 345 : Great album, I really like this, seen 'em live recently and it was the worst concert I've been to. Shocking. Still good to listen to them every now and again… and THAT riff…
Favourite track : Welcome To The Jungle
Beck
3/5
# 346 : Good album, I like it, it has a hit or two. Would not buy this, but would listen again.
Favourite track ; Devils Haircut
Queen Latifah
2/5
# 347 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. I thought it was very ordinary and Quiet forgettable. Good 80s rap that again loses a point for length. Too much sampling and not enough Queen, weak lyrics. I probably won't go back to this.
Penguin Cafe Orchestra
1/5
# 348 : Boring as f@ck. When your only claim to fame is you are on this list, it is no surprise I haven't heard of these guys before.
David Gray
1/5
# 349 : Slow & dull, Average at best.
The Temptations
2/5
# 350 : sigh, was hoping for some classic that I knew and could sing along to. Alas I got the Temptations. This was funky at first, but got a bit monotonous. At least it was short and sweet lol.

Dr. John
1/5
# 353 : Slow & dull, below par at best. I'm not sure it inspired anyone, but if the music isn't good, I'm not sure I need to hear it before I die. I can't imagine getting hit by a bus and my last thought being, "But I never got to that album from Dr. John"
Ride
2/5
# 354 : Another snore fest. I don’t greatly dislike this. I just have no interest in ever listening to it again. Shrug
Arcade Fire
3/5
# 355 : They've done a pretty decent job, It's alright, it’s enjoyable, fun and just experimental enough to make people think they’re smart because they listen to it.
Favourite Track : Rebellion (Lies)
The Velvet Underground
3/5
# 356 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. It does get better with each listen, but just because people say this is the coolest album ever made, doesn't make it any better to listen to. It has its moments but is wildly overrated in my opinion. Have the people that rate something 5 stars actually listened/read/watched what they are rating?
I liked Run Run Run the best.
Kacey Musgraves
2/5
# 357 : I could listen to it, but it's bland and boring. Bland modern country pop with terrible teenage diary lyrics. I won't listen again and I feel like sometimes this list mistakes "you must listen to this ALBUM before you die" with "Hey, this was popular during 20xx, or had a couple hits on it" with importance.
High Horse is worth a mention though.
Pixies
3/5
# 358 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. I thought it was very ordinary and Quiet forgettable. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for a very loud, noise-filled album.
Here Comes Your Man and Dead were good though.
Don McLean
3/5
# 359 : He's done a pretty decent job, great album, I like the hits of course, but sad and mellow overall. Listened to this whole album for the first time today and it's nice with wonderful folky acoustic tracks, will definitely listen again.
American Pie & Vincent are the standouts - after you play those, you can pretty much shelve this LP.
The Beach Boys
3/5
# 360 : They've done a pretty decent job, it's ok, if overrated. I like the hits of course, but Because It's up there on everyone's "Greatest Albums" lists, we are supposed to like it, but I'm not sure it's all that!. The songs tend to drag and are not particularly rocking or particularly chill. Second side is not as much fun for sure, but this still is a fun album and it really gets you in a good mood.
Wouldn't It Be Nice & Sloop John B get an honourable mention.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
3/5
# 361 : They've done a pretty decent job, It's alright, it’s enjoyable, fun and just experimental and punky enough to make people think they’re smart because they listen to it.
Halloween is worth a listen,
The Modern Lovers
2/5
# 362 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. It does get better with each listen, Kind of bland, and sounds like an amateur band that I could go see in the local pub. Not bad, but not good either.
Derek & The Dominos
3/5
# 363 : They've done a pretty decent job, it's ok, if over-long. I like the hits of course, A few decent songs. If it wasn't for all the bland twaddle and screaming guitar instrumentals, this would be a really good record. Sometimes this list feels like things are included just because they were really popular at the time, but does anyone actually still listen to this album?
Favourite track : Layla
The Incredible String Band
1/5
# 364 : Can't Listen, don't like it, I'm not sure it inspired anyone, but if the music isn't good, I'm not sure I need to hear it before I die. I can't imagine getting hit by a bus and my last thought being, "shit I never got to that album from those Scottish hicks playing that shit Sitar". Does anyone actually listen to this album, or only us twits doing "this list"?
Rage Against The Machine
3/5
# 366 : They've done a pretty decent job, good album, it’s enjoyable and fun overall. Very repetitive, very riffy and very angry. A great first album. Weird but catchy and lively songs. Not too heavy but a bit too shouty.

# 368 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. A couple of things stood out but I thought it was very ordinary and Quiet forgettable and I doubt I'll ever go back to this. It started off alright with Infected, but went downhill very quickly after that.

1/5
# 374 : I don't love it, I can't listen to it, another overlong hip hop album with too many songs and skits and what's with all the swearing - does it really need that to be cool? I hate it. A lot of average and overrated hype!
Television

# 378 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. It's just sloppy noise-rock. This is my second Sonic Youth albums on this list. I don't get what all the fuss is about. Yes
2/5
# 380 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. A couple of things stood out but I thought it was very ordinary. Quiet forgettable and I doubt I'll ever go back to this. It started off alright, but the music is benign, and the vocals are easily ignored with some of the songs just going on too long.
Radiohead
1/5
# 381 : I really do not like Radiohead. Have the people that rate something 5 stars, actually listened/read/watched what they are rating? It baffles me how people rave about this twaddle.
Dire Straits
4/5
# 381 : They've done a pretty decent job, good album. Sultans Of Swing is like one of my all time favourite tunes. It's all about the guitar of course, but it has its decent moments and overall is a well produced album.
Honourable mention : Sultans
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
# 383 : ungh! Not a Nick Cave album. In saying that, this was alright. Not bad, not great, but somewhere in the middle.
Sonic Youth
2/5
# 384 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. It's just sloppy noise-rock. This is my second Sonic Youth album in two weeks. I don't get what all the fuss is about. Sometimes this list feels like things are included just because they were really popular at the time, but does anyone actually still listen to this album.
Pixies
3/5
# 385 : They've done a pretty decent job, a bit screamy in parts, but a good album overall. Solid, fun, and creative alt rock. I think the whole of the album was a little greater than the some of its parts; none of the songs themselves stood out to me significantly, but the album as a whole was kind of cool.

# 404 : drearey Electronic noise is just not me. I think I went to sleep a couple of times Hahahaha zzzzzz. I thought it was very ordinary and Quiet forgettable. Way too long as well with a 17 minute opening track!, and as someone else said, life became a loading screen that was stuck for around 40 minutes. Might be alright in an elevator when you're stoned or as background music but that's about it.

# 407 : nnng! I just can't get the hype for Fiona Apple - I can listen to it, but I found it drawn out, tedious and boring. Nothing really grabbed me - not even the so called hits and if the music isn't good, I'm not sure I need to hear it before I die. Thanks.

# 411 - Can't Listen, don't like it. Sometimes this list feels like things are included just because they were popular at the time, or they're by a big name artist, but does anyone actually still listen to this album?
PJ Harvey

# 417 : Not bad, a bit noisy and shouty but my younger self, had I know about this 20 or 30 years ago, might have actually loved it.
Sonic Youth
2/5
# 418 : Not bad, a few decent songs mixed in with a bit of pointless noise that gels into like one long song. Started strong and declined rather quickly. Sometimes this list feels like things are included just because they were really popular at the time, but does anyone actually still listen to this album?
The Soft Boys
2/5
# 419 : it wasn't bad, I don't love, I don't hate it. Am I glad I listened to this? I suppose, but who has time to listen to all 40 songs at over 2 hours?. Did I enjoy it? In parts. Will I come back to it? Doubtful.

# 424 : I still don't like Rap and being Over 2 Hours, couldn't possibly listen to the whole thing, but it's got Hey Ya! # 425 : nnng! I just can't get the hype for Lauryn Hill - I can listen to it, but I found it drawn out, tedious and boring. Nothing really grabbed me - not even the so called hits and if the music isn't good, I'm not sure I need to hear it before I die. Thanks.

# 426 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. I thought it was very ordinary, quite long and rather forgettable. I still don't like rap…or is it Hip-Hop (shrug), anyway, this was another album where I didn't feel like it warranted the "must hear before you die" label.
The Dictators
2/5
# 427 - 03/03/2025 : A two line bio doesn't give me much confidence in this LP. Alas it lived up to it's hype. Tracks that were clearly recorded in one take. Some of it is really fun, but there's a lot of dumb bad music here.
Arctic Monkeys
3/5
# 248 - 04/03/2025 - They've done a pretty decent job, all around slightly above average, a fun and energetic album and that one Arctic Monkeys song you remember… 2 1/2 rounded up :-)
Ice Cube
1/5
# 429 - 05/03/2025 : Not my thing personally, The music etc was ok and I can listen to it, but the relentless profanity grows wearisome, like, how many times can you say "nigger" on one album?... Can't listen to that anymore - give me something happy :-)
Paul Simon
4/5
# 430 - 06/03/2025 - Great album, I like this. Graceland is the best song here. I love the African influences in the music. Top 50 of the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums and 1987 Grammy Album of the year!

# 433 : 11/03/2025 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. A couple of things stood out but I thought it was very ordinary quiet forgettable and I doubt I'll ever go back to this. every song used the same template, chords, ....everything. If you've heard one song, you've heard them all...

# 434 : 12/03/2025 : They've done a pretty decent job. I think Its OK, I could listen to it and a couple of things stood out. Honourable Mention : Waterfalls
Scritti Politti
2/5
# 435 : 13/03/2025 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. Very 1985 and sounds like all the other similar bands of the time. I think sometimes this list feels like things are included just because they were really popular at the time, but does anyone actually still listen to this album?

# 439 : I can listen to it, but it's not real good. It was a chore to listen to and so repetitive, but maybe that's the genre? Maybe I'm just old but I have never really been able to get into electronic music.

Dizzee Rascal
1/5
# 442 : 24/03/2025 : Can't listen to it, don't like it, - must be a Rap thing. Repetitive and annoying with zero edge. Some songs In the middle were a bit better but still awful. I can't comprehend how people would pay money for this and even harder to believe that someone paid for it to be made. Another album which makes you reconsider whether there are as many as 1,001 albums you must listen to before you die.
The Fall

# 448 : 01/04/2025 : Hey, I tolerate most music. Jaz and Rap just aren't one of them. This album sounds like a bunch of guys in one huge jam session and doesn’t really meld…. Oh, and it's obviously meant to be listened to in mono.
Everything But The Girl
2/5
# 449 : 02/04/2025 : it's not bad…. It's not good. Nothing special. Very ordinary and quite forgettable. Probs won't go back to this.

2/5
# 454 : 09/04/2025 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. I thought it was very ordinary, quite long and rather forgettable. For a live recording it wasn't that energetic and Jesus Christ, Bob. Give that harmonica a break, not something I want to hear for 1.5 hours!
The Go-Betweens
3/5
# 455 : 10/04/2025 : Quite pleasant, they've done a pretty decent job. Not much more I can say. A band and album I could come back to.

# 470 : 30/04/2025 : I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got
I don't love it, I don't hate it, it's just a bunch of sad, drawn out ballads. Her voice is fine, but there is nothing interesting in the arrangement or lyrics. This is similar to a lot of albums on this list, good singing but too slow and doesn’t grab any attention.
Nothing Compares is a banger though.

Daft Punk
2/5
# 475 : 07/05/2025 : Homework
I don't hate it. I found it utter rubbish, with no talent and with no reason for existence. I thought it was very ordinary, and way too long to listen to repetitive tippy tappy plinky plonky noises that go round and round for over an hour without any progression, theme or meaning.
There was a couple of catchy tunes. but after the first minute of the track, you are like, next please.
Metallica

#476 : 08/05/2025 : Metallic (the Black Album)
Finally I'm into something good, I actually have this album too. Enter sandman was my happy place back in the early 90's loved it then and still crank up the volume when I play it today. The rest of the piece is quite ordinary, but with this they've done a pretty decent job. 235 Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Enter Sandman is my favourite track obvs.

# 479 : What's Going On : 13/05/2025
It’s decent. A couple classic bangers, and a great soul album, but there is a good amount of filler in there as well. Not sure why it's ranked as number 1, or why there is so much hype, more for it's importance I guess than it actually sounding good. Lack of transition between songs made this album drag on into one big boring mash. Title track was the best for mind.
Number 1 in Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time!
Number 17 in Apple Music 100 Best Albums
Soft Machine
1/5
# 480 : Third : 14/05/2025
meh! I knew from the first track that I was going to hate this album. An 18 minute track where it takes more than half the duration to get going. Even after that it just sounds like noise. Pointless, annoying, way too long. Its not big or clever and someone actually paid to make this!

# 487 : Destroyer by KISS : 23/05/2025
Best Live band EVER! - They've done a pretty decent job with this though, a good album, short and sweet. Aside from the obvious Detroit Rock City and Shout It Out Loud, the album didn’t really grab me. Solid but not really a standout, not 5 star material. Did I mention how good they are live?
The Libertines

Borderline unbearable and makes you want to go and stab something. What a terrible listening experience. This was rated Number 17 in the Australian Top 100 Albums, better than many other Australian bands albums? Really? - Great album artwork though.
The Dim Locator - if you have to listen to this, at least spin that one.
Thelonious Monk

# 493 : Brilliant Corners : 02/06/2025
MORE BORING JAZZ! I honestly can't say anything bad about it, except it seemed more like they are constantly warming up and I spent the whole album waiting for them to start playing something. Whatever I was doing while I was listening to this album was more enjoyable than this.

I know this album. A good friend of mine thought it was the bees knees back in the day, but alas I am not one for instrumentals. I hadn't really listened to it before, just snippets, and this time I found my mind wandering whilst I was "trying" to listen to it. A bit boring and sleepy. ok, but not 5 stars.

# 524 : Harvest
Ranked #72 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time — and it's... fine.
The album delivers a solid listening experience with a few standout tracks, including at least one undeniable hit that earns its place in music history. It's fun, enjoyable, and has its moments — but it’s not without flaws. The pacing suffers from filler that stretches the runtime, making it feel a bit bloated. While it’s certainly a good album, it doesn’t quite reach five-star greatness.

# 527 : In Utero
"In Utero" marks a more mature and unfiltered chapter for Nirvana. The album leans into a raw, emotional intensity—sometimes a bit too screamy for my taste—but it still delivers some powerful moments. There are definitely a few standout tracks and bangers, and one song I keep coming back to is Dumb. It’s a real highlight for me—simple, haunting, and beautifully done. Overall, a solid album that pushes their sound while staying true to their grunge roots.

# 528 : Faith
"Faith" is a well-crafted album that earned its place as the Grammy Album of the Year in 1989 and is ranked 151 on Rolling Stones list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The front half is especially strong, packed with memorable songwriting and timeless tracks that still hold up today. My personal favorite is the title track Faith—catchy, confident, and iconic. The latter half doesn’t quite maintain the same momentum, feeling a bit uneven in comparison. Still, it’s a solid listen overall and a testament to George Michael’s artistry and versatility.

This album is heavy—definitely one of Sabbath’s weightier efforts. The production’s a bit rough, but it kind of adds to the gritty vibe. There are a couple of tracks that really hit, and overall it’s a solid listen.
Not totally my style, though. Some songs dragged on a bit, and “Changes” felt out of place—too mellow and kind of broke the flow. That said, Supernaut was an absolute standout for me. Killer riff, great energy. I’d definitely spin this again.

The Verve’s A Northern Soul is a masterclass in musical mediocrity. Not bad enough to hate, not good enough to love—it’s the sonic equivalent of wallpaper: always there, never interesting. Noisy, thrashy, and trashy—and that’s just the first 30 seconds. I knew I was in trouble when my ears started negotiating a ceasefire with my brain. Is post-punk even a thing, or just a dare someone took too far?
This album didn’t age—it fossilized. It’s like someone recorded a tantrum in a tin shed and called it art. If this is what survival sounds like after punk, maybe extinction wasn’t such a bad idea.

# 541 : This Nation’s Saving Grace by The Fall
This Nation’s Saving Grace is often hailed as a post-punk essential, but for me, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. The album has a raw, almost chaotic energy that makes it feel like the band was writing the songs as they recorded them. There’s a certain trashy charm to it—rough around the edges, but not without its moments of fun.
That said, the lack of technical polish and structure made it hard to stay engaged. It feels more like a snapshot of a moment than a timeless piece of music. I’m not sure how many people would still genuinely enjoy this today. In the end, this one lands firmly on my personal list of “1001 Albums to AVOID Before You Die.”

# 543 : Manassas by Stephen Mills
Manassas – A Musical Road Trip with Too Many Pit Stops
I don’t love it, I don’t hate it—Manassas is like that overly chatty Uber driver who insists on playing his mixtape of country-blues-rock throwbacks. It’s long. Like, really long. And while it’s not offensively bad, it feels like it’s trying to be everything at once: country, blues, rock, folk… maybe even a bit of cosmic cowboy. The result? It’s not terrible—just aggressively unremarkable.
There are a few catchy tunes scattered throughout, like forgotten snacks in the glove compartment. But most of it is generic, sleepy, and about as memorable as yesterday’s weather. You won’t be humming any of these tracks in the shower—unless your shower is stuck in 1972.
In short: not a disaster, just a musical shrug. If you’re into sprawling double albums that sound like a jam session at a dusty truck stop, this might be your vibe. Otherwise, you’re probably better off skipping the detour.

# 544 : The Scream by Siouxe And The Banshees
The Scream – Post-Punk’s Polite Yawn
Better than expected? Sure. Memorable? Not even slightly. The Scream is the kind of album that politely enters the room, makes no eye contact, and quietly leaves before dessert. It’s listenable, in the same way that beige wallpaper is lookable.
For a genre known for its jagged edges and emotional intensity, this debut feels oddly tame—like post-punk with its shoes off and a cup of herbal tea. Nothing here offends, but nothing inspires either. It’s the musical equivalent of nodding along to a conversation you’re not really following.
If this album taught me anything, it’s that maybe there aren’t 1,001 albums you must hear before you die. Some you can just wave at from a distance and move on with your life.
Verdict: Meh with a capital “M.” File under “respectable but skippable.”
Paul Simon
2/5
# 545 : Hearts And Bones by Paul Simon:
Hearts and Bones – Paul Simon’s Midlife Musical Meander
Paul Simon is a legend. Hearts and Bones is… not. It’s the sound of a brilliant songwriter taking a leisurely stroll through the middle of the road, occasionally stopping to muse about odd topics like love, memory, and thinking too much—literally.
There’s nothing offensively bad here, but also nothing that grabs you by the ears and demands attention. It’s like watching a master chef make toast. Sure, it’s technically fine, but you know he’s capable of so much more. The melodies are pleasant, the lyrics are quirky, and the whole thing feels like a polite shrug.
This album won’t ruin your day, but it won’t make it either. It’s the kind of record that makes you question whether the “1,001 albums you must hear before you die” list might’ve been padded a bit.
Verdict: A soft pass. Respect the artist, skip the album.

# 546 : It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back – But Just One Skeptic to Say “Eh.”
#15 on Rolling Stone’s Greatest Albums of All Time? Bold. I still don’t get rap, hip hop, or whatever this sonic riot is. Chuck D sounds like he’s narrating the apocalypse—authoritative, iconic, and kind of terrifying. The beats? Wild. The energy? Unmatched. My enthusiasm? Missing.
It’s political, angry, and refreshingly free of gangster rap’s usual swear-a-thon. But despite the fire, it’s just not my jam. More like a history lesson shouted through a megaphone.
Verdict: Respect the impact. Avoid the replay.

The Coral – Psychedelia on Training Wheels
Short, sweet, and mildly psychedelic, The Coral is like dipping your toes into a kaleidoscope. It’s got neo-psychedelia, folk rock, and a frontman who sounds like he borrowed his voice from a vintage rock museum. Interesting? Sure. Memorable? Not really.
They’ve done a decent job, and “Remember When” stands out as the best of the bunch. But overall, it’s the kind of album you’re glad you heard once—and equally glad you don’t need to hear again.
Verdict: Three stars for effort. One listen is plenty.

# 548 : Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Hounds of Love – More Like Hounds of Mild Interest
Kate Bush has a lovely voice and a wild imagination, but Hounds of Love feels like being gently chased by a very polite dog. It’s weird, slow, and light—like avant-garde lullabies for people who enjoy staring at clouds.
There’s variety, sure, but it’s the kind that makes you wonder if your playlist shuffled into a dream sequence. “Running Up That Hill” and “Cloudbusting” are technically strong, but they both sound like they’re stuck in the same mystical fog. Only the first track really stands out—and even that one feels like it’s jogging uphill in slow motion.
Verdict: A struggle to stay engaged. If this is essential listening, maybe we don’t need 1,001 albums before we die.

# 549 : Paris 1919 by John Cale
Paris 1919 – Mediocrity in a Velvet Suit
Pleasant enough, sure—but are you seriously telling me this made the cut over literally any of the other thousands of albums out there? Paris 1919 is like sipping lukewarm tea while reading poetry you don’t quite understand. It’s cultured, it’s composed, and it’s… kind of boring.
“Macbeth” is the highlight, but even that feels like the album’s way of saying, “Look, I can be interesting… I just choose not to.” If too much of a good thing is bad, then too much of a mediocre thing is just exhausting.
Verdict: A polite yawn in album form. Avoid unless you're curating a list of musical wallpaper.

# 550 : The Sensual World by Kate Bush:
The Sensual World – Sensual, Sure. But Mostly Snoozy.
Kate Bush returns with another dreamy 80s soundscape that’s relaxing, charming, and creative… which is a polite way of saying “a bit boring.” It’s extremely of its time and extremely Kate Bush—which isn’t a crime, just not five-star material.
“The Fog” is the best track, but even that feels like it’s trying to remember what excitement sounds like. The whole album is pleasant enough, but if this is essential listening, then maybe the bar for “essential” needs a serious review.
Verdict: Not bad, just not all that. Sensual? Maybe. Memorable? Not really.

Donovan
3/5
# 551 : Sunshine Superman by Donovan
Sunshine Superman – Psychedelic Vibes, Medieval Cringe
Donovan’s Sunshine Superman is vibrant, nostalgic, and groovy—until the medieval lyrics kick in and you start wondering if you accidentally wandered into a Renaissance fair. The rockier tracks are decent, and the sitar makes frequent appearances like an overly enthusiastic guest who doesn’t know when to leave.
Some songs are a slog, and the lyrics occasionally sound like they were written by a bard with a thesaurus and no filter. But when it’s good—like on “Sunshine Superman” and “The Trip”—it’s really good. Just not good enough to justify the rest.
Verdict: A nice enough time, but not essential. File under “3-star psychedelia with a lute problem.”

# 522 : The Colour of Spring by Talk Talk
The Colour of Spring – Beige, But Louder
Talk Talk’s The Colour of Spring is peak 80s adult contemporary—slow, dull, and somehow still annoying despite barely doing anything. It’s like musical wallpaper: ignorable, but occasionally so bland it actively irritates you.
There’s some sparse production that’s mildly interesting, and the singer’s voice is half-decent. But when the children’s choir is the highlight, you know you’re in trouble. Not one good track, not one moment that catches the ear. Just another mediocre new wave album that somehow snuck onto the “must-hear” list.
Verdict: One star. A snooze disguised as sophistication.

Frank Sinatra

# 553 : The Wee Small Hours -- Frank Sinatra
In the Wee Small Hours – Sinatra Sings, You Snooze
Conditioned response: see Sinatra, expect a classic. Reality: a slow, moody drag through the emotional wreckage of heartbreak and insomnia. Yes, Frank’s voice is smooth as silk and undeniably iconic—but this album feels like it’s been playing in the background of a sad diner since 1955.
Every track is a variation on loneliness, lost love, or late-night brooding. It’s classy, sure, but also kind of a downer. And when the highlight of your listening experience is realizing you’ve nodded off, maybe it’s not quite the essential masterpiece it’s cracked up to be.
Verdict: A velvet-voiced lullaby for the emotionally exhausted. Respect the crooner, skip the coma.

Astrud Gilberto

# 554 : Beach Samba by Astrud Gilberto
Beach Samba – Cocktail Music for the Musically Indifferent
When your only claim to fame is being on this list… well, that says a lot. Beach Samba is short, pleasant, and sleepier than a hammock nap after two mojitos. It’s the kind of album you’d hear wafting from an open-air bar at a Caribbean resort while sipping a coconut cocktail and wondering if the Wi-Fi works.
Astrud Gilberto’s voice is breezy and charming, but the songs are slow, the energy is low, and the excitement is on permanent vacation. “The Face I Love” is the best of the bunch, but even that barely stirs the cocktail.
Verdict: One star for effort. Background music for when you’re too relaxed to care.

A Tribe Called Quest

# 555 : People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm by A Tribe Called Quest
People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm – Smooth Ride, But Do We Have to Take It?
This one was better than expected—laid-back, trippy, and full of slick production and clever samples. It’s got a confident, jam-session vibe that’s fun and catchy, with a nice balance of serious and playful lyrics. The melodies are smooth, the instrumentation is tasteful, and it all feels like a hip-hop picnic in the park.
But after a while, it starts to feel like you’ve been on a very stylish treadmill: smooth, but going nowhere. It’s repetitive in that “this is nice, but how many more tracks are there?” kind of way. “Can I Kick It?” is the clear standout—infectious, iconic, and the one track that really sticks. The rest? Cool, but not exactly life-changing.
Verdict: A confident cruise through hip-hop history, but not essential travel. File under “respectable detours.”

# 556 : Ogdens Nut Gone Flake
Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake – Psychedelic Nonsense in a Tin Can
This album kicks off with a decent instrumental and follows up with “Afterglow (Of Your Love),” which is actually great. The rest? Silly, catchy, and occasionally charming—but not something you’d rush to add to your regular rotation. It’s like a psychedelic carnival ride that’s fun for a few minutes, then starts to feel like a headache in paisley.
The singer’s pretty good, and “Lazy Sunday” is the standout track—quirky, memorable, and the closest thing to a reason this album made the list. But overall, it’s more nut than flake.
Verdict: Three stars for effort, but still not essential. File under “fun once, forgettable forever.”

# 560 : Modern Kosomolgy
Modern Kosmology – Spacey, Stylish, and Slightly Forgettable
This one’s not bad… but also not sure why I need to hear it before I die. Modern Kosmology floats along with nice vocals and some interesting compositions, but it never really takes off. It scores low on the “must-hear” scale, but reasonably well on the “nice to have on while folding laundry” scale.
The instrumentals aren’t particularly adventurous, and while it feels very current for indie, it also feels like something that’ll age about as well as a 2020s TikTok trend. Pleasant, yes. Memorable? Not so much.

# 561 : Moon Safari
Moon Safari – Chill Vibes, Zero Pulse
Well, the album art is nice. That’s about where the excitement ends. Moon Safari is a 43-minute snooze fest that somehow manages to be both perfectly pleasant and mind-numbingly boring. It’s incredible how little happens across the entire album—and yet it still feels like too much.
The sounds are soft, the mood is mellow, and the engagement level is somewhere between “background hum” and “accidental nap.” It’s music for people who want something playing but don’t actually want to listen to it. Repetitive, forgettable, and about as thrilling as watching paint dry in slow motion.

Zombie – Funky, Political, and 20 Minutes Too Long
What a groovy, fun album! Zombie kicks off with its title track—upbeat, politically charged, and somehow still makes you want to dance. It’s a combo I can get down with. The energy is infectious, the groove is undeniable… and then it just keeps going. And going.
Four tracks over 53 minutes means you’re getting a lot of jam for your buck—but if you shaved off about four minutes from the start and end of each track, you’d have a banger. Instead, it’s another one for the “why is this on the must-hear list?” pile.

# 563 : Ready To Die
Ready to Die – Influential, Iconic, and Kind of a Chore
Ranked #22 on Rolling Stone’s Greatest Albums of All Time? Sure. But for me, it was more like #22 on the “Glad That’s Over” list. I can appreciate the influence, the beats were solid, and Biggie’s flow is undeniable—but I still don’t get rap. The content didn’t connect, and after an hour of the same three words, it started to feel like a lyrical treadmill.
Too much violence, too much swearing, and not enough musical variety. It’s edgy, but not in a way that feels artistically useful to me. The title track was the best of the bunch, but even that couldn’t save the rest from being a bit of a slog.

# 564 : Sulk
Sulk – Post-Punk Pop with a Side of “Please Make It Stop”
Post-punk and pop—whatever that means—collide in this very 80s, very synth-heavy album that’s more miss than hit. Sulk isn’t bad music, but it’s bland, uninspiring, and occasionally just annoying. The vocals wobble between theatrical and grating, and the whole thing feels like it’s trying way too hard to be weird without actually being interesting.
It’s over an hour of synth soup with no standout tracks, and the only reason it’s not a half-star is because it occasionally resembles music. Two stars for effort, and for not making me rage-quit.
Verdict: Not hated, not loved, and definitely not remembered. File under “80s excess with no payoff.”

# 565 : Beaty And The Beat
Beauty and the Beat – Fun, Catchy, and Still Not Essential
This one earns a rare nod of approval—Beauty and the Beat is a fun, classic pop-rock album that goes down easy. From the opening track “Our Lips Are Sealed,” it’s clear the Go-Go’s knew how to craft a solid tune. The songs have aged surprisingly well, and the whole thing is better than the hit singles might suggest.
But let’s not get carried away. It’s still a bit monochromatic in that very 80s way—catchy, but not exactly deep. A few hours later, you’ll struggle to remember a single track. It’s technically not bad, but also not something you must hear before you die.
Verdict: Three stars for being better than average. File under “pleasant pop detours.”

The Rise & Fall – Madness, But Not the Good Kind
The confidence of “Our House” is immediate and convincing—it’s the hit, the anthem, the reason this album exists. The rest? Fine. Thoughtful. A little fun. But let’s be honest: the best Madness album is The Best of Madness. You don’t often think of Madness album tracks, and this one doesn’t change that.
This might be the most British album ever recorded—tea, rain, and mild existential dread in musical form. “House of Fun” is the best of the bunch, but everything else feels like a polite shrug wrapped in synths and ska-lite.

# 567 : Darklands
Darklands - the musical equivalent of a shrug
It’s moody, slow, and vaguely atmospheric—like someone dimmed the lights and forgot to turn the music up. The guitars jangle politely, the vocals mumble introspectively, and the whole thing just sort of... happens. It’s easy listening in the most literal sense: easy to listen to, easy to forget.
I get what it’s going for—post-punk melancholy with a pop sheen—but it never really lands. There’s no tension, no release, no standout moment. It’s like watching a black-and-white film where nothing dramatic ever occurs. You sit through it, nod occasionally, and then move on with your life.
This isn’t a bad album. It’s the kind of record that critics adore and fans defend, but for me, it’s a soft pass with a polite wave.
Verdict: Not hated, not loved, and definitely not remembered. File under “80s excess with no payoff.”
Best Track (if you must): Happy When It Rains – the one moment where the clouds part and something resembling a hook appears.

# 568 : Alien Lanes
Alien Lanes - A lo-fi sprint through chaos.
If Alien Lanes is a masterpiece, then I’m a cassette deck. This thing sounds like ADHD in real time—lo-fi, lo-effort, and lo-interest. It’s all over the place, jumping from one half-formed idea to the next like a kid with a sugar high and a four-track recorder.
Apparently it cost $10 to make, and honestly, that feels generous. There’s potential buried in here somewhere, but it’s buried deep. The songs are short, scattered, and often feel like demos of demos. Less is not always more—sometimes less is just... less.
The best part? It’s over quickly. It’s listenable enough, and occasionally interesting, but not something I’ll ever come back to. This isn’t an album—it’s a sketchbook of musical doodles.
Verdict: A lo-fi sprint through chaos. Not an album—just a catalogue of song fragments.
Best Track (if you must): As We Go Up, We Go Down – the one moment where the chaos briefly aligns into something resembling a song.

# 569 : A Grand Don't Come For Free
A Grand Don’t Come for Free - If this is what a grand sounds like, I’d rather keep the change.
A two-line bio, an opaque album cover, and a wave of lukewarm reviews should’ve been the warning signs. Alas, I pressed play anyway. What followed was a masterclass in disappointment. This album doesn’t just fail to live up to its hype—it makes you question whether there are even 1,001 albums worth hearing before you die.
The concept? Supposedly clever. The execution? Flat. The production? Barely there. The vocals? More diary entry than performance. It’s like someone tried to rap their way through a mundane Tuesday and called it art.
When your only claim to fame is that you're on this list, then congratulations. One star—because I can’t give it zero.
Verdict: When hype meets reality—and reality is a letdown.
Best Track (if you must): [None worth mentioning.]

# 570 : Peggy Suicide
Peggy Suicide - A Marathon of mild disappointment
I went into Peggy Suicide with low expectations—and somehow, it still managed to underwhelm. Clocking in at a soul-draining 2.5 hours, this album immediately tests your patience. The opening track “Pristeen” asks, “How much can you take?” and by the end of it, I was already asking myself the same question.
There’s no denying Cope had ideas here—lots of them. But ideas don’t make an album. This is a sprawling, meandering journey through half-baked concepts, forgettable melodies, and vocals that sound like someone reading their journal out loud in a pub. It’s listenable, technically, but not enjoyable. No hits, no hooks, no reason to return.
I skipped a few tracks. I zoned out. I got bored. And I couldn’t wait for it to be over.
Verdict: Ambitious in length, forgettable in impact. A marathon of mild disappointment.
Best Track (if you must): [None stood out.]
Closing thought: I have to ask—do the people giving this five stars actually listen to the albums they’re rating, or just admire the word count?

# 572 : Sticky Fingers
Sticky Fingers - A few hits, a few fillers, and a whole lot of middle-of-the-road swagger.
Finally, a classic from the list… and it’s fine. Sticky Fingers is a well-crafted, dynamic-sounding album, but let’s not pretend it’s flawless. For every iconic moment, there’s a track that feels like it wandered in from a rehearsal session. It’s The Rolling Stones doing what they do best—just not always at their best.
It ranked #104 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, which feels about right: respected, but not revered. The hits do hit—especially Wild Horses, which earns its place in rock ballad history. And Bitch deserves an honourable mention for injecting some much-needed energy and bringing the swagger into the mix.
Still, the filler is real. This is the kind of album that gets praised because it’s supposed to be praised. It’s got the legacy, the zippered cover, and the name recognition—but not every song earns its place.
Best Track (if you must): Wild Horses – the signature ballad that actually lives up to the hype.
Verdict: A classic, sure—but not that classic. A few hits, a few fillers, and a whole lot of middle-of-the-road swagger.
Closing thought: If this is the gold standard, I’ll take silver with fewer skips.

# 574 : The Notorious Byrd Brothers
The Notorious Byrd Brothers – Experimental, but Not Exceptional
Some interesting experimentation going on here—phasers, Moogs, and a horse on the cover—but none of it adds up to anything truly memorable. The playing is decent, the singing is fine, and the production occasionally wanders into cool territory. But the songs? They just don’t stick.
This is the Byrds doing what the Byrds do: jangly guitars, harmony vocals, and a slightly psychedelic glaze. It’s a good representation of their sound, but not a compelling reason to revisit it.
“Wasn’t Born to Follow” is the best of the bunch—spacey, loose, and a little more adventurous than the rest. But even that feels more like a highlight by default.
Verdict: 2 Stars for effort. File under “textbook Byrds, but not the essential chapter.”

# 575 : OK
OK – But Mostly Not OK
This album starts off like it might be something—cool textures, intriguing fusion, a sense of promise. Then five minutes pass. Then boredom sets in. Then you start wondering if your speakers are broken or if the album is just gaslighting you into thinking it's still interesting.
It’s challenging, sure. But so is assembling IKEA furniture, and at least that comes with instructions and a sense of accomplishment. OK is long, meandering, and progressively worse with each track. It’s like watching a beautiful sunset slowly turn into a PowerPoint presentation on ambient noise.
No standout tracks. No desire to revisit. No idea how this got past quality control.
Verdict: 1 Star for initial curiosity. File under “albums that should’ve ended after the intro.”
Best Track (if you must): [None stood out.]

# 576 : ...And Justice For All
…And Justice For All - A solid thrash metal epic that overstays its welcome
Only nine songs, yet over an hour of relentless thrashing guitars and pounding drums. ...And Justice for All is kind of alright, but it’s also kind of exhausting. Metallica are undeniably brilliant at guitar solos—of that, there’s no debate. But they’re less good at… well, most of the other things that make music music.
Maybe that’s harsh. This is a great example of progressive thrash metal from arguably the greatest metal band ever assembled. It’s technically impressive, ambitious, and occasionally thrilling. But the lyrics, the delivery, and the overblown song lengths create a fun-void that’s hard to ignore.
“One” is the standout—a beautifully crafted piece of work that shows what Metallica can do when they rein it in just enough. The rest? Solid, but not as enjoyable as their other albums.
Verdict: A solid thrash metal epic—just one that overstays its welcome.
Best Track (if you must): One – a haunting, powerful track that earns its reputation.
Closing thought: If justice is blind, this album is deafening.
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
2/5
# 577 : Jack Takes The Floor
Jack Takes the Floor – And You’ll Be Taking the Exit
The songs aren’t offensively bad, but they’re about as exciting as lukewarm beans in a tin cup. If this is the music playing around the campfire, I’m grabbing my sleeping bag and faking a bear attack to get out of there.
Jack does ramble—truth in branding—but it’s less “charming drifter” and more “guy at the pub who won’t stop telling you about his banjo.” There’s a mix of folk and country here, sure, but it’s the kind of mix that makes you wish someone had just picked one and done it better.
I genuinely don’t understand why this album is considered essential. It’s like someone recorded a man mumbling stories to his horse and called it a classic.
Verdict: 2 Stars for authenticity. File under “campfire music for when you’re already asleep.”
John Martyn
1/5
# 578 : Solid Air
Solid Air – More Like Stale Breeze
Clocking in under an hour, the best thing about this album is that it ends. It starts slow and dull—like watching grass grow, but without the beer or the satisfaction of lawn care. Not really my cup of tea, unless that tea is lukewarm and served with a side of confusion.
Martyn mumbles through most of it like he’s trying to win a game of musical charades. The vibe? Imagine a yuppie couple dimming the lights and putting this on to set the mood. Now imagine trying to un-hear that.
There are moments where I almost dig what’s going on, but they vanish faster than my interest. This album is all over the place, and none of those places are worth visiting.
Verdict: ★ for brevity. File under “albums that make you grateful for the stop button.”
Best Track (if you must): None worth mentioning.

# 579 : The Pleasure Principle
The Pleasure Principle - Repetition on repeat
The Pleasure Principle starts off promising enough—cool synths, slick mixing, and a vibe that feels like it might go somewhere. But then it doesn’t. What follows is slightly over an hour of sleepy upbeat feels, where every track sounds like a slightly remixed version of the last. It’s like being stuck in a futuristic elevator with a malfunctioning playlist.
Numan’s vocals are flat and robotic, which might be the point, but that doesn’t make them any easier to enjoy. The repetition across songs becomes grating fast, and while the production is clean, the songwriting is anything but engaging.
It’s not bad, exactly. It’s just dull. You can listen to it, but you won’t feel much while doing so—and you definitely won’t be reaching for it again.
Verdict: Sleepy synths, robotic vocals, and repetition on repeat. A pleasure in name only.
Best Track (if you must): Cars – a synth-pop classic that stands out, but one good track does not an album make.
Closing thought: The only principle here is: if you’ve heard one track, you’ve basically heard them all.
Marilyn Manson

# 580 : Antichrist Superstar
Antichrist Superstar – Shock Rock Fatigue
Ungh. This can’t be good… and it isn’t. The album kicks off with a refreshing sonic blast, but quickly devolves into an hour and a quarter of being yelled at by a guy who really wants you to know he’s edgy. It’s screamy, shouty, and creepy—but not in a fun Halloween way. More like “your neighbour’s goth teenager started a band” creepy.
Some of the riffs are actually solid, but they’re buried under layers of vocal theatrics and lyrical content that feels like it was written to make your grandma clutch her pearls. It’s overlong, lacking in variety, and exhausting to sit through.
I don’t understand how people enjoy this. Maybe they’re in it for the shock value, but after 75 minutes of this, the only thing I felt was regret.
Verdict: ★ for the riffs. File under “albums that scream at you until you leave.”
Ladysmith Black Mambazo
2/5
# 581: Shaka Zulu
Shaka Zulu – Technically Brilliant, Emotionally Meh
This one’s not for me. I don’t love it, I don’t hate it—I just kind of endured it. I remember people getting very excited about this back in the '90s, but listening now, it’s more “respectful nod” than “standing ovation.”
It’s unique, mostly a cappella, and the performances are undeniably tight. These guys are very good at what they do. But good technique doesn’t always equal a good time. I struggled to get through it, and not once did I feel the urge to hit replay.
The best thing about it? It’s short. Half an hour and done. Like a polite guest who knows when to leave.
Verdict: ★★ for skill. File under “albums you admire more than enjoy.”
The Stooges
3/5
# 582 : The Stooges
The Stooges – Punk’s First Yawn
I wanted to hate this. I really did. But it’s not all that bad. In fact, it’s kind of fascinating—short, raw, and weirdly experimental for its time. At just 34 minutes, it’s over before it begins, like a punk tantrum that burns out before it gets truly annoying.
That said, this album feels like weaponized boredom. It’s the sonic equivalent of a teenager slamming their bedroom door and declaring themselves misunderstood. It’s good, not great—more historical artifact than enjoyable listen.
“I Wanna Be Your Dog” is the pick of the tracks, mostly because it sounds like it knows what it wants. The rest? A bit of a shrug wrapped in distortion.
Verdict: ★★★ for influence. File under “albums that invented punk’s posture, but forgot the punch.”
Ranked # 488 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of all Time (2023) is probably about right.
Beach House
2/5
# 583 : Teen Dream
Teen Dream – More Like Sleepy Whisper
“Dream Pop,” they call it. And sure, it’s dreamy—if your dreams involve floating through a scented candle aisle in slow motion. This album is so slow and soft it could be used as background music at a health spa… or maybe during a guided nap.
I don’t dislike it, but I also can’t have fun with it. It’s aural wallpaper: pleasant, unobtrusive, and entirely forgettable. Nothing here feels special or groundbreaking. The cover is bland, the vibe is neutral, and the whole thing is so uneventful it could be prescribed as a sleep aid.
To its credit, the songs all sound similar—so it’s cohesive. I listened to the whole thing, but I forgot what I was listening to about halfway through. It’s like being gently ignored by music.
Verdict: ★★ for cohesion. File under “albums that whisper you into a coma.”

# 584 : Straight Outta Compton.
DID NOT LISTEN - Doesn't sound like I would enjoy that.
My Bloody Valentine
2/5
# 585 : Isn't Anything
Isn’t Anything – Isn’t Much, Really
At just 37 minutes, this album is mercifully short—but that’s about the only compliment it’s getting. Shoegaze, whatever that is, seems to mean “everyone plays a different song at the same time while staring at their feet.” Sometimes it felt like the guitarist and vocalist were in separate rooms, recording on different planets.
There’s a lo-fi charm, sure, but mostly it sounds like a guy doing a demo in front of his tape recorder while hoping no one walks in. The musical competence is questionable, the energy is flat, and the whole thing feels like a blurry photocopy of a good idea.
“Cupid Come” is the most listenable track, but even that’s like finding the least soggy chip in a bowl of cold soup.
Verdict: ★★ for historical curiosity. File under “albums that sound like a rehearsal you weren’t invited to.”
Heaven 17

# 586 : Penthouse and Pavement
Penthouse and Pavement – Basslines in a Sea of Beige
Two stars for effort, and maybe half a star for getting my foot tapping once or twice. But over an hour of long-winded '80s synth pop? That’s a lot of neon for not much payoff. This album feels like being trapped in a lift with a malfunctioning Casio keyboard and a guy who insists “this was groundbreaking, mate.”
There’s some sick bass playing throughout, especially on the title track, which almost tricks you into thinking the album might be good. But then the rest happens. The sound hasn’t aged gracefully, and the songwriting is hit or miss—mostly miss.
It’s not awful, but it’s not good either. Kind of like being handed a warm beer and told it’s “craft.” Thanks for letting me hear it, but I can live without it, thank you very much.
Best Track (if you must): Geisha Boys and Temple Girls – like a synth-pop fever dream where the bass player showed up and everyone else phoned it in.
Verdict: ★★ for the bass. File under “albums that peaked at the rhythm section.”
The Band

# 587 - Music From Big Pink
Music From Big Pink - More like big meh.
I don’t love it. I don’t hate it. It’s fine. Music from Big Pink is one of those albums that feels more like a collection of tracks than a cohesive whole.
There’s no real flow, no momentum—just a handful of great songs surrounded by others that make you wonder if the tape ran too long.
There’s undeniable talent here, and some tracks are genuinely impressive. But the excitement fades fast. Nothing catchy enough to pull me back in, and nothing bad enough to rant about. It’s just… there. A yawn wrapped in roots rock.
Verdict: A few brilliant moments lost in a haze of filler. Big Pink? More like Big Meh.
Best Track (if you must): The Weight – a classic that carries the album’s reputation on its shoulders.
Closing thought: If this is what they built in Big Pink, maybe they should’ve downsized.
The Only Ones
3/5
# 588 - The Only Ones
The Only Ones - Enjoyable, but not essential.
This one surprised me. The opening track kicks off with tasty chord changes, solid production, and a vibe that makes you think, “Alright, this could be something.” And then the vocals arrive. Let’s just say they’re… an acquired taste. Rubbish, maybe—but somehow, they mostly work.
There’s a mix of good and bad here. The guitar work is unexpectedly sharp in places, and the lyrics occasionally rise above the haze. It’s more tuneful and varied than expected, and while it’s good enough for background music, it rarely demands your full attention. You lean in, get intrigued, and then drift back to your conversation.
Best Track (if you must): The Immortal Story – the one that lingers just a little longer than the rest.
Verdict: Dreamy, melancholic, and slightly haunting New Wave. Enjoyable, but not essential.
Closing thought: Like the band’s name, this album is fine—but far from the only one you need to hear.
Traffic
2/5
# 589 : John Barleycorn Must Die.
John Barleycorn Must Die – And Honestly, I’m Fine With That
Now, nobody likes traffic—commuter traffic, that is. As for the band Traffic? Well, this album doesn’t do much to win them any favors either.
At just under 35 minutes, it’s mercifully short, but somehow still manages to feel like a long haul. Only six tracks, and yet they drag like a Sunday drive behind a tractor.
It’s technically well-executed, sure. The musicianship is there. But it’s the kind of chill, meandering instrumental music that makes you forget it’s even playing. I didn’t finish the whole thing, and I don’t feel like I missed much. It’s fine. Just… fine. Like a lukewarm cup of tea you forgot you made.
A fun little 1970s time capsule, maybe, but ultimately forgettable. Nothing stood out, and nothing made me want to hit replay.
Verdict: ★★ for polish. File under “albums that evaporate on contact.”
Blur
2/5
# 590 : Blur
Blur – A Whole Lot of Meh, Bookended by a “Woo-Hoo”
Sometimes I’ll listen to an old album and wonder why I’ve only ever heard one song from it. In this case, I know exactly why. Blur is a very ordinary, very beige Brit-rock album trying on American indie like a teenager in a thrift store. And it doesn’t quite fit.
“Song 2” slaps—no denying it. A two-minute sugar rush of fuzzed-out guitars and ironic grunge mimicry. The real kicker? The one song that parodies American alt-rock is the one that made them famous in the States. That’s some delicious irony.
But after that? The album becomes a bit of a… well, blur. The first two tracks are bangers, and then it’s like the band collectively took a nap. None of the other songs really spoke to me. It’s not terrible, just incredibly uneventful. Like a lukewarm pint—technically beer, but not worth writing home about.
Best Track (if you must): Song 2 – the musical equivalent of a Red Bull shot in a sea of tepid tea.
Verdict: ★★ for the “Woo-Hoo.” File under “albums that peaked at track two.”
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
# 591 : Ocean Rain
Ocean Rain - A light drizzle of nostalgia.
Ocean Rain starts off strong, with that unmistakable 80s sound and production that immediately sets the mood. There are some genuinely good foot-tappers here, and the band clearly knows how to craft a vibe. But the album fluctuates—sometimes really good, sometimes forgettable.
It’s the kind of record you vaguely remember from days gone by, but if someone asked you who the band was, you’d probably shrug. It sounded better on the second pass, but still lands squarely in the “I kind of like it” zone. A few standout moments surrounded by a sea of average.
Best Track (if you must): The Killing Moon – haunting, melodic, and the one track that truly rises above the tide.
Verdict: A relic of a genre long gone. Good, but not great—and mostly washed away by time.
Closing thought: Ocean Rain? More like a light drizzle of nostalgia.

# 592 : Sex Packets
"Cringe" - I still don't like Rap / Hip Hop. I'd give it one star, but a couple of things were ok, so 2 stars... maybe.
Paul Revere & The Raiders
3/5
# 593 : Midnight Ride
Midnight Ride - A joyride through vintage rock and roll.
I’ll admit—I hadn’t heard of Paul Revere & the Raiders before this, but Midnight Ride was a pleasant surprise. Classic rock and roll vibes, 12-bar blues foundations, and some genuinely foot-tapping singalong moments. It’s right in my wheelhouse.
The melodies are strong, the lyrics are solid, and the production has that unmistakable 60s charm. Most of the tracks are good, a few are just okay, but overall it’s a fun listen. It’s not groundbreaking, and it’s not going to change your life, but it’s got enough groove to keep you entertained.
Best Track (if you must): Kicks – a standout anthem with punch and purpose.
Verdict: 3 Stars. A fun 60s jam with catchy tunes and solid energy. Not essential, but definitely enjoyable.
Closing thought: Midnight Ride? More like a joyride through vintage rock and roll—with a few bumps along the way.
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark

# 594 : Architecture And Morality
Architecture and Morality – More Like Wallpaper and Passivity
This album is very ordinary. Nothing special, nothing memorable. Some tracks are okay, some are just there, and the whole thing feels like it’s trying to be profound while slowly lulling you into a nap. It’s drawn out and boring—slow enough to forget it’s even on.
The 80s synth pop here is fine, but if you’ve heard one, you’ve heard them all. OMD doesn’t do much to stand out from the melodramatic crowd. In all seriousness, does anybody still listen to this? If you haven’t heard anyone mention this album in the last 25 years, you probably don’t need to hear it before you die.
Best Track (if you must): Georgia – and even that’s like picking the least soggy crouton from a bowl of synth soup.
Verdict: ★ for effort. File under “albums that sound like a fax machine trying to feel emotions.”
Django Django
2/5
# 595 : Django Django
Django Django – Indie Rock for the Algorithmically Inclined
This is an alright record—kind of psychedelic, kind of poppy—but it suffers from a serious lack of realistic energy. Everything sounds so perfectly quantized, so surgically aligned in a DAW, it’s like a computer wrote it while sipping oat milk. The result? Lifeless. Devoid of personality. Like indie rock made by a spreadsheet.
The songs are catchy, sure, and there’s charm in the repetition. But after 40 minutes of falsetto harmonies and looped grooves, it starts to feel like you’re stuck in a stylish elevator. Excellent electronic composure, but the vocals never take any risks, and nothing truly grabs your attention.
Best Track (if you must): Zumm Zumm – the sonic equivalent of a quirky Instagram filter: fun for a second, then forgotten.
Verdict: ★★ for polish. File under “indie rock groups white girls like,” but as far as that goes… really not bad.
Cheap Trick
2/5
# 596 : At Budokan
At Budokan – Cheap Trick, Budget Sound
Live albums are supposed to capture the magic of a band in their element—raw energy, crowd interaction, and a fresh spin on studio favorites. At Budokan does none of that. Instead, it’s a sloppy, uninspired mess that sounds like it was recorded from the back row with a potato.
The hits are still decent, but everything feels loose and under-rehearsed. The lyrics are uninspiring, the energy is flat, and the crowd might as well be napping. There’s no spark, no moment that makes you stop and go, “Wow.” Just a lot of “Why is this considered essential?”
I wouldn’t say it’s bad, but every song here is done better on the studio albums. This feels like a bootleg that accidentally made it onto Rolling Stone’s “Greatest Albums” list.
Best Track (if you must): Ain’t That a Shame – ironically, the best thing here is a cover.
Verdict: ★★ for nostalgia. File under “live albums that forgot to bring the live energy.”
The Everly Brothers
3/5
# 597 : A Date With The Everly Brothers
A Date With The Everly Brothers - A quick nostalgic detour.
This album is old—and it sounds it. A Date with The Everly Brothers is a quick listen, packed with sugary tunes and those signature harmonies the Everlys are known for. They sing beautifully, and the songwriting is solid throughout. Unfortunately, the covers drag it down, and the genre has been done better elsewhere.
It’s enjoyable in the moment, but leaves no lasting impression. The music is charming but bland, and in today’s context, it doesn’t offer much beyond a warm glow of nostalgia.
Best Track (if you must): Cathy’s Clown – a timeless tune that still holds up.
Honourable Mention: Stick With Me Baby – sweet and sincere, even if it doesn’t stick for long.
Verdict: Short, sweet, and beautifully sung—but ultimately a nostalgic detour with limited replay value.
Closing thought: A pleasant date, but not one you’ll be telling your friends about
Screaming Trees
3/5
# 598 : Dust
Dust - Suprisingly solid grunge-pshych fusion.
I didn’t expect much from Dust, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It starts off strong, dips a little toward the end, but manages to stay engaging throughout. A blend of light grunge and experimental psychedelic rock, it’s one of those 90s albums that sounds like a thousand others—but in a good way.
I knew the name Screaming Trees, but couldn’t have named a single song before this. Now? I might even go back for another listen. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s well-crafted and has enough variation to keep things interesting.
Best Track (if you must): All I Know – a standout that captures the album’s best qualities.
Verdict: Surprisingly solid grunge-psych fusion. Not essential, but worth a spin.
Closing thought: Not bad at all for a band I’d never listened to—sometimes the trees scream, and sometimes they sing.

# 599 : Live at the Apollo
I want to like it, but it's so hard to enjoy a live album. I could listen to it but it's not real good. Nothing really leapt out at me, but one or two things sounded ok.
If you have to listen to this, look out for: I'll Go Crazy
Sugar
2/5
# 600 : Sugar
Copper Blue – A Three-Course Meal of Dry Toast
This album tries so hard to sound like the greats of the era, which only makes you wonder: why waste time on this when you could listen to those bands instead? Copper Blue is completely pointless—like a three-course meal of nothing but dry white toast.
The mix is bad, the sound is bad, and nothing is interesting for the entire runtime. The vocals? Weak, when you can even hear them. The drums? Godawful. The lyrics? Vapid and lazy to the point of comedy. By the end, I was actively annoyed at how inane and repetitive it all was.
There are thousands of better albums from the ’90s. Normally, I’d go for this kind of record, but this one let me down hard.
Best Track (if you must): Helpless – which is exactly how you’ll feel trying to finish this album.
Verdict: ★★ for existing. File under “albums that make you appreciate the bands they’re imitating.”
Method Man
1/5
# 601 : Tical
Tical – Method Man’s Method for Making Me Nap
Nope. This was bad. Hip-hop is already low on my personal list, and this album sits near the basement of that genre. Every track feels like the same beat copy-pasted across the runtime, with lyrics buried so deep you’d need a mining permit to find them.
It’s not fun, it’s not engaging, and it’s definitely not something I’d revisit. I got bored fast—like, “checking how many tracks are left” bored. Method Man sounds like he’s going through the motions, and honestly, so was I by the end.
Best Track (if you must): None. Unless you count the sound of silence after hitting stop.
Verdict: ★ for endurance. File under “albums that make you question your life choices.”
Alice Cooper
4/5
# 602 - Schools Out
Schools Out - A shockingly good time
Verdict: A shockingly good time. Loud, brash, and way better than expected.
I knew the title track, and I liked it—but I’d never heard the full album until now. And wow, what a surprise. School’s Out kicks off with one of the most iconic rock anthems ever, perfectly capturing the energy of kids bursting into summer freedom. The rest of the album? Rocker after rocker, delivering a dynamic listening experience that’s in-your-face without tipping into glitzy excess.
It’s raw, it’s fun, and it rocks hard. Alice Cooper proves here that he’s more than just theatrics—there’s real substance behind the shock. The album flows with confidence, and while nothing beats the excitement of that first track, the rest holds its own.
Best Track (if you must): School’s Out – the ultimate anthem of rebellion.
Honourable Mention: My Stars – a hidden gem that shines bright.
Closing thought: If this is what detention sounds like, sign me up.
MGMT
3/5
# 603 : Oracular Spectacular
Oracular Spectacular - Background music for a neon-lit house party
Oracular Spectacular is an enjoyable listen, no doubt. MGMT bring originality to their sound, and there’s a decent amount of musical diversity throughout. But once the glitter settles, it’s clear this is a party album—catchy hooks, big choruses, and not much staying power.
The three hits are undeniable. They’re massive, they’re memorable, and they were played to death at the time. The rest of the album? Bland, but not offensively so. It’s well-produced and occasionally interesting, but doesn’t hold up to the strength of its singles.
Best Track (if you must): Electric Feel – a synth-pop banger that still grooves.
Honourable Mention: Kids – infectious and nostalgic, even if it’s been overplayed.
Verdict: A party band with a few massive hits and a lot of filler. Fun, but fleeting.
Closing thought: Spectacular? Not quite. Oracular? Maybe. But mostly just background music for a neon-lit house party.

# 604 : Closer
Closer – Funeral Hymns for the Emotionally Numb
This is a grumpy, depressed mishmash of musical ideas, overlaid with thick, tuneless vocal mumbling. It’s trapped in the past and doesn’t feel relevant in the modern age. I can objectively appreciate what it was, but subjectively? This is decidedly not for me.
Someone once described this as “arty, pretentious shit with a vocalist who can’t sing.” Hard to argue, really. It’s like a collection of funeral hymns recorded in a concrete bunker. The atmosphere is heavy, the pacing is glacial, and the emotional payoff is… nonexistent.
Best Track (if you must): Heart and Soul – which was okay, but still nothing that made me want to stay in the room.
Verdict: ★★ for historical value. File under “albums that make you want to check on your plants instead.”

# 605 : It's Too Late to Stop Now
I want to like it, but it's so hard to enjoy a live album.

# 606 : Joan Armatrading
Joan Armatrading – A Pleasant Stroll, But Not a Destination
Dated in spots and a little middle-of-the-road, but overall this is a funky, folk-ish record that’s surprisingly enjoyable. Nothing overtly amazing, but also nothing skippable. It’s a bit slow and boring in parts, but the singing is genuinely great—Armatrading’s voice carries the whole thing.
The focus here is a girl and her guitar, and for something made nearly 50 years ago, it holds up better than expected. Still, it’s not essential listening. It’s the kind of album you nod along to while wondering what else is in your queue.
Best Track (if you must): None particularly stood out, but the vibe is consistent.
Verdict: ★★★ for charm. File under “albums that are nice, but not necessary.”
