DJ ShadowListening at work and it works well as background music but is also interesting enough for intentional listening. Creates a nice mood to settle into, it propels you forward gently but with purpose.

I have tried several times to get into the The Who and aside from some of their hits, I just don't connect with them. With that being said, The Who Sell Out is probably the closest I have come to liking a The Who album as a whole. It has some great songs and it's charming and silly in a good way. I don't love it but I can listen to it.
I LOVED this record when I was little kid. It's very polished pop music with a hard rock (hair metal?) shroud. There are some bangers here and it brings back some good memories but it doesn't do much more than that for me anymore.
Fantastic record. Perfect weird energy. Amazing performances. One of Talking Heads best.
I was pretty much done with the Chili Peppers when this album came out. I loved BSSM as well as the darker turn they took with One Hot Minute so I wasn't excited about their "return to form" with Californication. I'm also not entirely sure how much RHCP a person needs in their life. Still, this is a pretty damn good record by their standards and I'm going to say it will probably have the distinction of being the last RHCP record I need to listen to.
Dylan at the peak of his powers. Absolutely must-have, must-listen record.
Take some blue-eyed soul, dance beats, and 80s production; put itall together and for that reason, I am out.
One of the greatest to ever do it and one of his best. Every song is a 10/10. RIP Elliott.
I dipped out of popular metal in the late 90s as I did not consider nu metal to be improving upon anything that came before it. I really liked a few of the early touchstones (Deftones 'Adrenaline', Korn 's/t', Sepultura 'Roots Bloody Roots') but it all became a bit too polished and over-saturated shortly after. I'm happy now to go back with the dust-settled and see what is still standing. In looking at a lot of what I like from that time that I skipped the first time around, it seems that I'm still not into most nu metal but ALTERNATIVE metal from that same time period is more my speed. System of a Down is a pretty great little band and this album is a fun listen. It's heavy, fast, high energy, and unpredictable. 8/10
One of my favorite artists of all time is Elliott Smith so when I first heard Nick Drake, I was on board immediately. The similarities are obvious but I was blown away when I found out Drake was doing this in the late 60s/early 70s. There's something timeless about the arrangements and melodies. The songwriting, stripped down production and soft, warm vocals give it a melancholic feel but I wouldn't call it sad. It's more somber but also comforting. This is a great rainy day record as are Drake's other albums.
First time listener. This is really interesting. Hard to describe. Like a mixture of Vampire Weekend and Maps & Atlases. Catchy and familiar but also weird and almost experimental. Very cool stuff. 7/10
Not bad but not great. I'm sure it was very edgy when it came out but it's not doing much for me now. There are a couple great tracks here but the rest get a bit repetitive after a while. 4/10
A monumental historic album, for sure, but I can't listen to it.
Great historic album. I prefer The Clash or The Damned but this will always be a classic.
Really nice pop-rock with an alt-country twist that goes down easy. Some heavy stuff here (in subject matter) but all really easy to listen to. I've been meaning to dig deeper into Big Star so I'm glad this popped up.
One of the greatest albums of all time. There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said. 10/10

Really cool guitar record and way ahead of its time. Love it. 8/10
Amazing voice. The music is so alive. I haven't listened to Burke before but he's going on the list with Aretha and Sam and Otis. I look forward to digging deeper into his catalog.
I got into NWA when I was way too young and I loved it so much. Everyone I knew was into glam/hair metal in the 80s and while I've come to appreciate some of that stuff as I've aged, I hated it at the time (still hate most of it). NWA, Public Enemy, Ice-T, and Geto Boys were about as polar opposite as you could get. Ice Cube is one of the greatest to ever do it and I had AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted and Death Certificate on repeat forever. I stopped listening to rap in favor of punk and metal and right before this album came out. Listening is nostalgic even though I've never really listened before other than the singles that were inescapable. Picks up right where Death Certificate left off and hits just as hard. Solid all the way through as well. 8/10
Oh man, this is really hitting the spot. Folk, blues, and rock all kind of mixed together in a unique signature way. The instrumentation and arrangements are striking. Will continue to listen for sure. 8/10
There's some classic stuff here, but doesn't do much for me. I'm not a huge fan of big full group harmonies that were popularized by CSNY, The Beach Boys, The Byrds, and The Mama's and the Papa's but there are definitely some songs that overcome that particular grievance of mine. 5/10
Wow, this is a lot. A double-album by a very prolific artist that has always been in my periphery but I've never really sat down and listened to. After the first few listens, I can confirm that this is a lot to take in. I don't really feel qualified to speak on it with any authority just yet but I will say it is very good and I will keep listening. I am rating it a 4/5 here conservatively but this could very well end up being a 5/5.
It's pleasant enough to listen to but not really my thing. Doesn't hold my attention.
This album is a vibe. Listened maybe 5-6 during work yesterday. Soothing and entrancing. LOVE this. 9/10
This is a monster of an album. Ridiculous beats, intelligent writing, and phenomenal performances. The themes and lyrical content are clever, substantial, and important, especially in these times. 9/10
This is probably the best Who album but I still don't really love it. They just aren't for me. 5/10
A classic. I never got into Prince in his heyday but it's pretty easy to see why he is a legend. 8/10
This is my first time listening and it's not bad. I like my hip-hop a little grittier. The production seems a little too clean, almost sterile. 5/10
Tom Waits is a living legend and this album is one of many testaments to that fact. 10/10
This isn't bad at all but nothing really jumped out at me or grabbed my attention. 5/10
This is a great album. Solid all the way through. 8/10
I've listened to this one about a million times and it fantastic all the way through. Too bad MM turned out to be such a piece of shit.
I've never listened to this before and it's not bad. I will revisit this to see if it clicks with me.
Sounds like classic Elvis Costello. I have most of his 70s stuff and a bit of his 80s material but I'm not sure how much more I need. Still, this isn't bad at all.
Stone cold classic. 10/10
One of the greatest to ever do it. 9/10
This is a surprisingly modern sounding record considering when it was released. The first half was a lot easier to listen to than the second but I will continue to try this out as it is intriguing.
Great album. I think that all S&G albums are a bit inconsistent but this one is my favorite of theirs.
One of the best country records to come out in the 80s. 8/10
All I know about Thundercat is that he's a ridiculously good bassist, played on Kendrick's To Pimp a Butterfly, and played with Mac Miller on NPR. Going in with only that knowledge, this album has more in common with jazz fusion records than what I expected. It has a very clean sound, very smooth. The light, airy vocals also contribute to the very inoffensive easy listening sound. The fact that Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins feature on a track makes a ton of sense. I may have hated this when I was younger but it's really not that bad. I think it achieves the mood it sets out to create. It's just really nice and calming. And funny. There's a lot of silliness here. Good stuff. 6/10
The electronic/club music scene from the 90s is something I am aware of but haven't any real experience with. Listening to this isn't unpleasant. It's very hypnotic in the sense that it's repetitive and the songs are long. Sometimes too long. I don't hate it but there are other long form types of music that I prefer over this. 5/10
Fantastic album. Love the guitar work!
I listened to this about 6 times yesterday. It's a good work album. Will definitely be revisiting.
No thanks, this is not my thing. "Sophisti-pop" might be a tough sell for me.
Stone cold classic. 10/10
I didn't care for this. Just didn't really pop out at me in any way.
I had this album in the 90s but haven't listened to it since then. It's a lot better than I remember it. I will keep it in the rotation.
This might be a really great listen under certain circumstances but this was not working for me at work.
Beastie Boys are one of my favorite bands of all time and this was the first album I ever bought on CD. I have a lot of history with this record and a lot of great memories wrapped up with it. With that said, I don't revisit this often. There are some great tracks here but they cannot hold up to the masterpieces that the Boys would release in the following years. So today I will listen to Hot Sauce Committee as I haven't spent much time with that one.
A classic. 10/10
Good stuff! Not my favorite "eighties" band but this is a great album.
Great album, fits nicely right alongside the Steely Dan discography. 7/10
Amazing album! Nothing else like it!
Joni is a legend and this is one of her best. 10/10
10/10
I've been listening to Bjork a bit more lately but I haven't worked my way up to this one just yet. Listened once and it's very nice. I look forward to listening more.
Classic 10/10
Masterpiece 10/10
