Good.
i think i like this a lot because of the 1975 and its similar sounds
"North American Scum", "Someone Great", and "All My Friends" are the standout tracks. Cheeky alternative rock married to somewhat frenetic dance music.
The first time I heard “North American Scum,” it immediately shot to the top of my coolest songs I’ve ever heard list. I listened to it over and over again. I couldn’t get enough of it. LCD Soundsystem has a great style. Layers and layers that rise and build over the course of long songs. Some of these tracks can really put you in a trance. Everything is deliberate and intricate and precise. But you can still boogie to it! The lyrics of the title track are really funny. What a great, simple observation. We sometimes say we want to relive our youth but maybe we don’t actually want to be teenagers again?
This album / band were THROWN at me in college by some of my then-girlfriend (now wife)'s friends at random parties. I feel like I couldn't go to a party without not only hearing these songs but also having at least a few people ask "don't you love this song?" "don't you love this band?" "don't you love this sound?", and despite my rebellious hater-of-the-overhyped younger brother attitude, I always enjoyed the song/band/sound. It's just the best kind of infectious, fun, energy injecting type of indie music around. I think that's what made it so attractive to us and the people we hung out with; there were only so many times that you could put on the same old indie rock bands at parties and pre-party warmups pregame hangs and hope that people would dance to rock drum beats. It wasn't going to happen. But man, LCD Soundsystem gets put on? You're grooving. And what a bonus- they sound indie! They aren't some super over produced pop outfit that all the frat parties were playing. It was OUR music and it made you move. Perfect recipe for repeat listens. "All My Friends" was on every single party playlist in college and is an incredible anthem. "New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down" is such a masterfully written ending track. I love the sentiment, I love the contrast to the rest of the album. The album cover is pretty simple but what I think are the intentions being the elements are all great to me. Easy on the eyes. This is a really high 4/5 for me. I want it to be a 5, but it's not there for my personal rating schema.
ja wel lekker
Kinda funky pop rock fusion with a hint of light jazz. Not as good as Luis Cole or Snarky Puppy, but enjoyable enough.
"And for those of you who still think we're from England We're not, no" Stone cold classic: that said, I'm not the biggest LCD fan -- I find the tracks between the highlights a bit repetitive. Sorry! 😅
How does someone sound so energetic and lazy at the same time? God what a fucking great album. It like a really nice panic attack. Someone Great sounds like someone running their fingers across nylon. I was listening to it in bed and thought the dog was scratching something.
Interesting
This is one where I think the whole is better than the sum of the parts. There's two songs that really stand out to me on their own, "All My Friends" and "New York I Love You...". They're both awesome songs, and the latter really brings the album home, I love how it builds throughout the song. This has been a favorite of mine for awhile now and I enjoyed hearing it here in the context of the full album. "All My Friends" is awesome too, the pace is just a bit frantic in a great way. Outside of these two I don't think there's as many standouts, but the album is really consistent top to bottom. It's a fun listen, upbeat and dance-y and consistently interesting. Good stuff here, they would be a fun live show too I think. Favorite song: New York I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down Other: Time to Get Away, Someone Great, All My Friends 11/17/23
Upon getting this album, an album I LOVE, I found a review and rating I did for it in 2010 that was middling. Times are weird and I’m much more gentle now. Anyway, it isn’t perfect, but it’s essential.
I don't particularly like LCD Soundsystem or this album, but All My Friends is one of the best songs ever made and I cannot ignore that.
Had never really listened to LCD Soundsystem before but need to dive deeper into this and their discography at some point.
This album was nostalgic and took me back to my younger days living care-free in NYC/Philadelphia. It was high energy and perhaps did not resonate as deeply with my older self but I appreciate the sound and the genre. After the album ended, spotify took me on a fun trip down memory lane with other songs from this era.
Liked the vibes here, fun listening to the backing beats build and hearing the songs get put together.
Very surprised at how much I liked this album. Lots of depth and a sense of real diversity between the songs. And see how this was groundbreaking. Great job with the use of subtler elements of songwriting stacked
Great band, who apparently had a fair bit of hype around them, due to bringing up kids etc I missed it all, so I was a bit late to the party. Didn't listen to anything by them until 'American Dream'. So had to delve into their back catalogue and this was an absolute stunner of an alternative dance LP. Great dancy tunes with a happy vibe and a tinge of humour. Standout tracks; 'North American Scum', 'Someone Great'. But the rest of the album is really solid stuff. A band at the top of their game a high 4
Hmmm, think I prefer "American Dream" more than this one - it's a bit more consistent, whereas a couple of tracks on this one are a bit of a drag. Fave tracks - "Get Innocuous!" is a great opener with a distinctly Nathan Barley-esque title, and "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" is a great closer - that song is a vibe....
Rich, upbeat dance music. Some overtones of early 80 new wave - a bit of Depeche Mode, and a sprinkling of New Order
I had heard the name lcd soundsystem before, but never any of their music. I thought the songs were pretty good, but some were a bit repetitive.
Strong start and not so strong finish. But I really enjoyed it, I didn't feel this was repetitive at all.
All My Friends- so good New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down-All time fave LCD tune So emotional but so simple. Not my absolute fave LCD album, but pretty good with some hits.
To my surprise, this is a strong album with Standouts in every track, but it's not my genre and for specific listening settings.
Surpringly really liked!
I liked this waaay more than I thought I would.
"Sound of Silver" by LCD Soundsystem is an impressive album that beautifully melds various genres, creating a unique and captivating listening experience. I particularly enjoy the house-infused elements reminiscent of Daft Punk, the nods to New Wave, and the rock influences that shape this musical journey. The album's closing track is simply magnificent. It serves as a perfect culmination to the musical journey, leaving you with a sense of wonder and fulfillment. "Sound of Silver" is not just an album; it's a musical masterpiece that showcases LCD Soundsystem's ability to craft a diverse and compelling sound, making it a true gem in the world of electronic and alternative music.
Great sounds and sense of rhythm. Lyrics sounded very personal, but didn’t always flow well in my opinion.
actually pretty good, drums where a stand out, groovy asf, some parts where a little strange and conflicting, decent 4
Remind me of early 2000 partying in London
Genre: Dance-punk, Electronic Rock, Electronica Indie Rock, Dance-rock, Art Rock Singles: North American Scum, All My Friends, Someone Great, Time to Get Away Standouts: North American Scum, Sound of Silver, All My Friends, Someone Great, Watch the Tapes, New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down Others: Time to Get Away, Us v Them Rating: 4/5 Really enjoyed it!
Some good stuff in there. Always liked "All My Friends", and "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" is a nice way to close out the album. Rather enjoyable, all in all.
Well, I can't say I was expecting something like this to happen so soon. We return to the world of LCD Soundsystem. I already listened to American Dream just two days ago, so how does Sound of Silver compare? I do think I liked it a bit more. For one, it's shorter. One of my big complaints with American Dream was just how long it was. Sound of Silver is still decently long, but I wouldn't consider it too long. What I would consider it, however, is repetitive. Each song typically contains a few lines that are repeated throughout, with the title track having just 5 lines total. The sound itself is also quite repetitive throughout the album. It didn't really drag or anything, but some songs definitely suffered a bit from the repetitive nature of this album. I think that's why my favorite song on the album was definitely the album's closer "New York, I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down." I didn't think this album would have a better closer than Black Screen, but they proved me wrong. I guess it's kind of the other way around though, seeing as this album came out 10 years before American Dream. Overall, pretty decent and maybe a bit better than American Dream, but I still don't think I'm a huge LCD Soundsystem fan. 3/5. EDIT: Okay, I get it now. This is pretty good. I still think it's a little bit overrated, but I get why people love this as much as they do. LCD Soundsystem appeals to me more now that I'm more accustomed to this kind of music. Also, this album is really not as repetitive as I made it out to be. I like Sound of Silver a lot, but I wouldn't say it's a 9 or 10 like others would. It's more like a 7 or 8 for me. But, that is enough for me to bump this album up to a 4/5. Good stuff.
Interesting composition on most songs. Electronica Rock is a genre I've never really listened to before and I certainly enjoyed it. More rock songs need Glockenspiels and Cowbells! Think my favourite track was All My Friends
A classic, I love a handful of songs from this.
81/100
Listened to the front end a few times, don't think I made it all the way to the end as was busy doing things. very good album, listening to more lcd now lol
Fav: All My Friends
Not as loopy as the other projects I’ve heard. Love his voice and the energy on this one, good album (3.5/5)
Favorite Tracks: Get Innocuous!, Time to Get Away, North American Scum, Someone Great, All My Friends, New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down
have heard this one before. "get innocuous", "all my friends", and "new york i love you but you're bringing me down" by themselves make this album worth it, but it's all around really good and absolutely worth a look.
Great beats.
Innovate, weird, and constantly surprising. Lots of fun.

Done
So because it’s mine and somebody else’s birthday (hi Jen!) I was considering what would I really want to come up today? And what would Jen want to come up today? But in the true tradition of ‘you don’t always get what you want, but sometimes you might just find, you get what you need’ LCD is what turned up. As I was dancing around my kitchen, cleaning cloth in one hand and bottle of Prosecco in the other, I realised that this was exactly what I needed. The singles from this album were well-chosen. Upbeat, fun and very infective - I’m happy!!
I always think LCD Soundsystem is an EDM band, so I rolled my eyes when this showed up this morning. Anyway, I dug this. Guy's got a sense of humor. The songs have a little Talking Heads, Brian Eno, and Gang of Four, but I also picked up notes of Spoon and just a hint of blackberry. Anyway, it's fun, the songs are quirky and cool, and I hope to hear more from them. (I just looked back at my review of American Dream, totally forgetting everything about that listen. I gave that album a 1. LOL. I might have to revisit that one. Maybe I was just in a bad mood that day.)
A very different sounding album. LCD Soundsystem has a very unique sound to his work and although the songs are long, they don’t overstay their welcome.
Brilliant stuff.
fucking sick album. love the punk and electronic and everything. all over the place in the best way. all my friends is a 10/10
Liked this. Not a fan of the longer songs but the others were excellent.
4 stars
To be honest I did no expect to like it - but it was pretty good. I will definitely listen to it again and I might even dance or jog on it. For now I don't have a song that made it on my on-repeat-library, but I will definitely add the album to my playlist. Usually electronic stuff are not my jam, but this one has more than just that and it definitely has a specific sound to it that makes it addictive and fun. Great to listen to while working too.
One of those albums that didn’t sound like anything to me the first time I listened, but now that I’ve heard it a bunch of times over the years it’s hard to believe I didn’t realize how great it was that first time. Very nostalgic and sentimental feelings from these sounds 3.75/5
3.5 stars. A bit weird, this electronic indie rock has some great moments while being a bit too out there at times. The vocals can be a detractor at times, but overall this is a good album. Standout is the superlative "All My Friends" whose steady build and catchy beat is a masterpiece that carries the record.
Great 00’s indie dance album, deserves its place on the list. Already part of my regular rotation so maybe a bias 4 stars here.
Indie dance rock - It's nerdy, but also cool. Great vibes.
Very indie. Sounds like you could hear it in a club after 1 am or listen to ut during work.
It was the very first time I have listened to LCD sound system and I must admit it was pure fun. The album is somehow hilarious in its sound (I can't really explain why) and has a pretty nostalgic mood. And last but not least, the first song is perfect to do the robot dance. Highlights: Get Innocuous!, All My Friends
Quite fun! Highlight: North American Scum
An agreeable Alice of dance music. Lots of personality
best lcd soundsystem album, obvy. not too famous and not too obscure, hipster fun. vintage, visceral, powerful, chilled out. has that song about divorce. yeeeee.
Very reminiscent of its time, but that’s not a bad thing. Surprisingly melancholic in places.
Very unique "electronic pop" album. There's nothing quite like LCD Soundsystem.
4.0 - This is dance music for attractive nerds. Not the real nerds. The hot ones who call themselves nerds only because they own one pair of big framed glasses. Or they might say: “I’m a total wine-nerd.” No, Danielle, you just buy whatever Cab-Sauv happens to be on sale that week that also has a “90” sticker stuck on it somewhere. Same as the rest of us. Standouts: the New York song, the static sound at the end of “Someone Great”
Not their best album but still solid
This was pretty enjoyable. Very laid back, but engaging.
Good, but not their best
Shit yeah hadn't listened to this in yonks. Still so damn good. 4.5/5 Fav Track: Get Innocuous
Had never dunked my head into the waters of LCD Soundsystem completely. Are they the pacific, or a kiddie pool? This album would suggest somewhere in between, hot footing between Big W Talking Heads rips and anthemic indie rock that have resounded throughout the years. I think there's a lot of great songs and the album moves well, but there's a je ne sais quoi that's missing from the whole experience for me - a certain forced charisma on some tracks that holds me back. When it goes for sincerity, I'm much more of a fan. Three and a half. Fave track: All My Friends
Terrific album; have been a fan of this band for years. A cool blend of classic structures and production borrowing from their 70s and 80s influences and fresher, futuristic sounds. There are some all time classics on here - it’s really hard to come past a better back to back than Someone Great and All My Friends. Four and a half. Fave track: Someone Great
Surprised I liked so many songs from this album. Didn’t start very strong imo but got better Saved tracks: Time To Get Away, North American Scum, All My Friends, Watch the Tapes, New York I love You But You’re Bringing Me Down
love it but still find it really annoying
La verdad me sorprendió, pensé que iba a ser otro de ruidos metálicos al azar, pero termino siendo uno que volvería a escuchar
Funkyyy
I came to LCD Soundsystem a bit late. I think because it is, in many ways, totally not the sort of thing I'd listen to. As a result the first album of theirs I listened to (and still my favourite) was This is Happening. Of course, you couldn't not hear loads of tracks from this album while it was about. It was everywhere and it was brilliant, and it still is. If I could give a 4.5 I would.
James Murphy makes me dance and weep at the same time. A feat to behold.
Unique sound, feels like indie with some underlying funk. Fav tracks: Time to get away and All my friends
Another really good album.
Although I had heard of LCD Soundsystem, I had never listened to them. After hearing this album, I'm legitimately surprised that I hadn't listened to them before. They're a perfect mid-2000s indie rock/electronic dance sound that I really find myself typically getting into. This is a really cool sound mash-up that exists somewhere between rock acts The Strokes and the Killers and dance acts like Justice. They're not reinventing anything here, but it was just an enjoyable listen. 3.5.
Felt like I was transported back to 2007. awesome album.
17.04.23. Красочный танцевальный альбом с незабываемой атмосферой. Думаю, он куда с большей вероятностью заставит человека плясать, нежели львиная доля современного дэнс-попа. Работа со звуком и инструментами на высоте.
Very cool and addictive. "All My Friends" is a great track, at once driving and introspective.
I was very concerned after the first track that this would be another tedious, drawn out electronic album. Turns out I was pretty into the rest of the album? A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
I couldn’t roll my eyes hard enough when I saw yet another electronic album as a recommendation. Thankfully I did my due diligence and listened all the way through. Solid album that I’ll definitely come back to, and honestly changed my opinion of electronic just a little bit.
This is a band I enjoy and occasionally listen to, so it’s an easy 4/5 for me
Enter through the gift shop styles, despite its flaws a scene and time I would love to have experienced. I'll have to be content in the fact that I at least got to edit the html of my 2007 MySpace page from a little Brisbane bedroom.
When the intro was playing I expected a serious techno-vibe album. You gotta love that Slow techno build, half-way between itchy and orgasmic. Then it went in 74 different directions and it was funny? Us V Them was my favorite musically. Sound of Silver was my favorite lyrically. Getting old is dumb, but being young was dumbest.
For no reason other than I can be a miserable grumpy old man, I didn’t used to like LCD Soundsystem. I thought they were pretentious. I didn’t like the people that listened to them. Water under the bridge I say! LCD Soundsystem is the illegitimate love child of The Talking Heads and Lou Reed. They have that weird NYC coolness and the electronic poppy likability. To be honest, this is the first time I actually listened to one of their albums in it’s entirety. This album is very listenable. I can imagine it playing in a coffee shop, tattoo parlor, or a trendy pop-up shop. There are no sharp edges. Each song feels very well placed within the album. My favorite track, surprisingly, is the last track on the album “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down”. It isn’t danceable like the previous 9 tracks but it feels very honest. James Murphy actually shows a little vocal range. I dug this album and will check out more of their stuff. 4 out of 5 stars.
I've always listened to LCD Soundsystem as a band of singles, so I've not really ever listened to a record all the way through. However, this record has several of my favorite tracks on it, so I'm super interested. I love good dance music and LCD is built on dancehall beats with glitchy bass lines and then layering on melody and just a touch of harmony. It's like a band playing with a drum machine and then doing live bits in the same way many artists use samples. Not really verses and choruses, but also not really straight samples. It's somewhere in between, which I feel really gives LCD their unique sound and let's them be a band, but also produce great electronic music... best of both worlds. I love dance music best when they use great groove rather than hitting you over the head with hooks. Stand out tracks for me are: * Time to Get Away + Us V Them - which I feel could have been on the Talking Heads record like Remain in Light. Great looped groove feel. * Someone Great - Somehow able to be brooding and ominious and still be a banger in the dance club. This song just feels like Brooklyn to me so much. * All My Friends - one of my favorite dance tracks of all times... I've covered it in a couple different bands and it always kills. I never played in straight electronic or dance bands, so whenever it would start I could see like 10% of the crowd just absolutely go nuts. The LCD fans are out there and they are devoted! Hell, I'm on of them!
“… a masterstroke of middle-aged emo.” — an excerpt from Apple Music’s write-up for this album.
Hey! It's that song from Step Brothers!! The synth/electronic work on this album is TOP tier..
50% of this album and LCD Soundsystem in general is really great music. However it amazes me how the other half is boring, uninspired and frankly just lazy, such as Someone Great and All My Friends, which are the singles. Oh well I gladly take the awesome 50% because that's a lot more than most bands especially in this era.
These 3 great songs on this record make up for the other repetitive and boring tunes: North American Scum Someone Great All My Friends Us v Them feels kiiiiind of like a Talking Heads song Sound of Silver is just repetitive and pretty boring. I can only get through New York I Love You but…
This album is squarely in my musical dead zone, from 2005-2015 I listened to almost no new music including this one. It's really good but a few of the songs were a little long and a little boring. Many of the songs could be on a soundtrack to any movie set in NY in the late 2000s
didn't enjoy this as much as the other album by them that i had generated but i would listen again. last song was great, and i might even listen to their other albums sometime.
James Murphy makes electronic music for garage band kids. It’s totally sufficient but not my cup of tea. There’s glimpses here like the excellently dancey “North American Scum”. There’s a few too many bleeps and bloops for my liking. There’s SOME decent songwriting and production here but it’s let down by the music itself.
Música electrónica y dance muy animosa. Venga, le pongo un 4.
I album I love a lot. James sure does show his influences though. Bowie, Talking Heads, bit of Devo Their best album. It is that structured well and has an epic middle section. Strong 4.5
Didn’t know it at all but it was good. Had 80’s electronic vibe
Sound of Silver, second place.
silver, not gold
Some funky stuff
4+/5
Another name I was familiar with but never listened to although I am familiar with New York I Love You ... from something else. Even though I liked it, the overly long songs just didn't always work for me. If it were 10 minutes shorter I'd like it a lot more.
This is by far the best lcd Soundsystem album I’ve gotten. All my friends and I love you New York are both bangers plus North American scum is a fun one. Still maintains the weirdness of the other albums but is way more fun to listen to
Meta poggers
This album merges Kraftwerkian robo-repetition with elements of more traditional songwriting; and it's often like a less-wacky Talking Heads turning out longer songs. I like it.
Not usually a genre I listen to, but I enjoyed this one. Interesting titles including "New York, I love you but you're bringing me down" and good production.
beep boop!
Its not my kind of music, but the singer is so good. I love the guitars and the synthes. My favorites songs are: all my friends, someone great, sound of silver.
Some great tracks .
Typical of the 00s - sarcastic, neurotic yet hedonistic in outlook - great beats genuinely funny writing and memorable hooks throughout - a very good record.
awesome alternative sound
This is not important music. This is anything BUT important, profound music. What it is is fun. It's still art, just something like pop art. Wacky and sometimes goofy (although not as goofy as some of their other material). A fun listen.
This was surprisingly good
Great
Overall a great album. It’s pretty catchy and has memorable electronic rock songs. I really enjoyed the beats throughout each song, and the unique sound has some strong impressions throughout the listen-through. A few gripes I have about it, however, is that some songs tend to get repetitive without a feeling of progression, and the style feels inconsistent at times, bouncing from song to song. Favorite track: All My Friends
The thing that I don't like about a lot of LCD Soundsystem is that they often use the trope of repeating chords quickly to make dance music, and I really dislike this approach. There are a lot of ways to create compelling dance music, and this is one of the lazier approaches. On the other hand, they employ a lot of compelling aspects in pretty much every other facet. I think that the last song, "New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down" is an all-time high for the band. All this being said, I get why this is an essential album, and LCD's influence can be seen throughout contemporary music. Highlights: 1, 4, 5, and 9.
This one was a bit of a roller coaster. The songs have good energy and they were good to listen to out on a walk/run. Electronic sound with upbeat tempo. The sound can get repetitive within a song as a lot of the sounds just pound on sixteenth notes all the way through the song. It actually can get a bit tiring to listen to the whole album. I probably would have dropped it down to 3 stars by the end, but then New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down saved it and brought it back up to a 4. That last song was great.
I wasn't a fan at the start but the album grew on me as I got further through. The building of the loops at the start of most songs is interesting to hear though, for me, some go on a bit too long to remain interesting. 'All My Friend', 'Watch the Tapes' and 'New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down' were particular highlights for me
Känslomässigt och intressant. Lite repetitivt till och från.
Fine, it’s good
Electronic music. Good for running. Some cool songs.
Très bon album! Ça m'a replongé dans Top Spin 3! Je devrais plus en écouter du LCD....
lots of 4 on the floor banging away. Time To Get Away has me interested. Someone Great was a radio hit. Watch The Tapes is another banger.
I have a difficult relationship with this album. I love everything that LCD Soundsystem did for electronica. I think this is a great album from a musical standpoint. So many of my favorite musicians list this album as a favorite and I get it. But I just don't love it. For me, it's a touch too cerebral and self-aware, the exact qualities that other love about it. It just doesn't touch me in any emotional way at all. It's undoubtedly a great album but it's not my favorite album. 4/5
I didn't like LCD Soundsystem's first album and wrote off their later releases. This album has changed my mind about them, and I'm definitely more interested in the other LCD title on the 1001 List. Get Innocuous! worried me with its beginning of the long droning note, but really kicks this album into high gear from the start. North American Scum and Us v. Them are supremely danceable and really fun. All My Friends is a bit too repetitive for my liking, but Watch the Tapes is a better example of a less dance-y track that works alongside the more dance oriented numbers.
Yes. Sattumalta kuuntelin juurikin tätä albumia kun tämän suosituksen sain.
jsp j'ai liké la moitié des chansons
Fun album. Kind of seesaws between 80's esoteric dance and mid-00's indie.
Best Song: A raw and somehow melancholy dance track that builds in a satisfying, continuous crescendo. Good stuff. Worst Song: Time to Get Away. Probably the weakest vocals on the album, especially in the upper register. Overall: An electronic album that feels personal and sad and uplifting and authentic. It feels like the moment on a night out when you suddenly remember that there is a broader world out there, and that in the morning you have to do whatever obligations you might have to do, but you keep partying anyway. Only now, the party feels tinted, if not tainted, with that knowledge that it's only for a little while longer.
I liked it, good sound overall.
Solid record - play loud!
This album is worthy of a spot in the top 1001
I was positively surprised that LCD Soundsystem wasn't just electronic music. This was better than average.
brilliant
From the first 3 seconds, this album just hooks me in. I appreciate this album more every time I listen to it. It does drag a bit (specifically when it gets to "All My Friends", and then again in the last couple songs) but makes up for it with so many great jams, at times just mesmerizing. Faves are "North American Scum" and "Watch the Tapes."
So much more dancey than the later works I’ve heard. I knew “All My Friends” which is an excellent example of a driving simple note progression that stays the same but all the while sounds great.
I think for my first LCD Soundsystem record I can see mostly why it's such a popular artist, pretty simple and hypnotic once you get really deep into some of these songs on the album. Didn't really like the final song, but overall I thought this was great
Already heard
Better than I thought. Good for party
I really wanted to not like this album but it is great. First time listening to LCD and definitely going to listen to more of their stuff.
Helvíti hresst, því verður ekki neitað. Hef barasta mjög gaman af þessu.
Too cool for school, detached, robot-like (Daft Punk influenced) electronica and yet something here still intrigues and bounces you along. Do you dance or chill? Maybe neither. Maybe you’re in that tramodol space inbetween.
I’d never actually sat down and listened to an LCD sound system album. I ended up listening to it 3 times and then their next album too. Great as background music, but also a lot more variety to it than I expected.
I liked it, thought this will be techno or something and was pleasently suprised xD
I remember listening to them at Austin City limits music festival several years ago and I think the album is a little different from what I heard at that concert it's a lot of energy I like it
Enjoyable, easy to work with this on.
Wildly derivative, of course, especially if you're a fan of the late 70s post-punk NYC scene. But plenty to enjoy and New York I Love You is one heck of a showstopper.
Hadn't ever really listed to them before. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Probably not all the time.
Yeah.
Good album
Only one or two tracks that were mediocre, but the rest of the album was really good
An absolutely solid album. Has a good blending of rock and electronic and si definitely something I'll jam out too again.
A favourite
Electronic Rock, 2007. Quite long tracks, really enjoyable and danceable, great flow of the songs on the Album. Definitely Good.
Awesome album, LCD Soundsyatem reminds me of university
Groovy
Ik ben LCD soundsystem de laatste jaren meer-en-meer gaan waarderen. Ook deze plaat is te gek. De track All My Friends! 😍
I feel like this album helped propel indie/alt music into a new vibe towards the end of the 2000s. It's new, exciting, fresh sound is super easy to jam along to and the production is fantastic. Loving the synths and soundboard tricks used on this release. Highly respect the sound and the creative approach during a time when the music industry wasn't really exploding with outside-the-box bands/albums. Fave tracks: North American Scum, All My Friends, New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down
Great Album. LCD Soundsystem mix of dance/punk/electronic/indie is unmistakable and extremely catchy. The use of repeating passages, layering more and more sounds makes for songs that are instantly accessible and groovy. Although my one criticism would be that they rely quite heavily on this method, it makes for songs that are quite long and begins to feel a little formualic by the end of the album. Overall still a fantastic album, really paved the way for Electronic Indie/Dance in the years since. Fav Tracks: Time To Get Away, Someone Great, Watch The Tapes, New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down
new york one is noice...
The book has it right, this is a low key, brilliant album. Unquestionably their best, and most consistent. Been a fan of these since Losing My Edge turned up on a label sampler my friend had, thought that was cool, then heard the amazing, blipping, squelchy Yeah and the New-Order-on-amphetimines Beat Connection and I was sold. The debut was good with some obvious high points but I found myself listening to the familiar disc of pre-existing singles much more. This is a fully formed album from the off, opener Get Innocuous dismissing any fears they'd spaffed most of their best ideas before even releasing an album. The weaker songs 'time to get away', 'watch the tapes' and the title track are still full of hooks and good enough to keep the vibe going. 'Weaker' being a relative term, as compared against the delicious joyful-mournfully celebratory 'Someone Great' and ultimate anthem to nostalgic wanderings through lost weekends and togetherness, 'All of My Friends'. Far and away the 2 best songs here, and the latter probably the best the band ever did. After that Us V Them is an admirable attempt to combine their best bits from other songs and does a good job, 'New York...' sends us home tripping up the first two stairs on our way to bed with a crashing indie rock jam. It's a great album.
I'd write something about this album but I'm way too busy dancing to its amazing beats! No ok, I'm not really dancing. I'm not even standing up. I'm on a chair, I'm always on a chair. My back hurts.
Awesome beats, a kind of Talking Heads with a twist of electronic music. I realy enjoyed this one.
Nice discovery, thanks 1001. It's like talking head on steroides ! Love it.
An album filled with exciting and extraordinary rhythms, wonderfully well arranged. Stunning and groovy bass lines. I had fun throughout my listening. Strong 4.
Here's a band I've heard of many times, but never listened to. I think I tried to listen to the follow-up, but don't remember it at all. This album was quite good though, and I'd listen to it more. 3.75/5
Yeah this is great. Funky and danceable punk that's pretty hard not to groove along to. North American Scum is really catchy and had a little Queens of the Stone Age attitude. Some punchy production going on here and the synthwork is really awesome on cuts like Someone Great. Enjoyed this quite a bit!
My first time listening to LCD Soundsystem, and I'm impressed. Vocals remind me of the Strokes but more spunk (biggest example is "North American Scum"). The energy mixed with slightly distorted high vocals also remind me of TV on the Radio (mostly in "Time to Get Away"). Melody is very disco-esque with some notes of the weirdness of Devo and Talking Heads. There's also a lot of techno influence, with the strongest being the opener "Get Innocous" (note the eery vocals that sound just like David Byrne) and "Sound of Silver." It also foreshadows retro / synthwave of the coming decade, especially in "Someone Great." So there's a lot of sounds and influences going on, but overall I'm a huge fan for it's own merit. All the tracks had something to offer. Not being repetitive yet incredibly fun to dance to, all the long timestamps were warmly welcomed. I'm also a big fan of the "New York" ballad closer. The production is on point, all the familiar sounds make it accessible to new listeners and would not stand out too much from being played at almost any type of dance party.
Una fiesta en los dos miles, este disco es para las pistas de baile menos desenfrenadas, pero suena muy bien.
4.5/5 Very dancy, and groovy, and well produced. I dig it
I found this more interesting than expected.
Better than I remember - def worth a second, third or fifteenth take x
Some banging tunes on this electro-dance-rock disc
Ovo je bilo jako dobro. Nastavljam ih slusat.
This is a great album. One of the best dance albums I've ever heard, but it's the surprise songs that put this album over the top....New York I Love You...I mean come on what a song. But it's Someone Great that is the show stopper. No there's othing quite as great as Losing My Edge, but as a whole Sound if Silver beats the debut. 4.5 🌟
I mean I’ve herd of the name but I have no clue what they entail… Get innocuous! has very strange but interesting vocals ( I don’t know if this will be a thing for the rest of the album) and it works well as an opener with the long instrumental build up. Time to get away starts off quite dull and it has very repetitive chorus which I don’t mind, the second half of the song is better because with the ( hoo hoo hoo’s) it just sounds more energetic I also like the outro on this one but it’s still not a favourite. North American scum has been lyrically best so far and i like the build up to the chorus but i’am starting to question his singing/ speaking style. Someone great has this weird sound what sounds like to someone doing then undoing a zip. The vocals are closer to that of get innocuous but I prefer it on here by looking at the repetitive lyrics I thought I would be annoyed by the bridge but it was probably the best. All my friends is the lyrically strongest at this point and it’s the first one I don’t have any criticism on the vocals for. This and many of the songs feel a bit too long all placed together for me as i’am used to albums with at most only one 7-9 minute song but i’am surprised how quickly they’re going past. Us v them is the longest song on here and i’am not to sure if it needs to be this long, it’s so repetitive lyrically but i like how the instruments build op on here, it does sound like a lot of the previous songs from a sonic perspective but more of a best of each bit then complete rip-off of before. Watch the tapes is good i mostly like the build up from pre chorus to chorus. Being one of the shortest songs though it did feel it was there to bridge gaps between us v them and Sound of silver the lyrics on here are so filler and so cringeworthy but I think the main attraction on this one are the instrumentals, which are good but it’s still my least favourite on the project. New York I love you but you’re bringing me down is a really strong lyrical song and a great pace changer for this group and it works perfect as a closer especially when it builds up. Overall I like this album i’am not too sure how often I would replay this because it seems like a grower, but I’ll perceiver as i can see why it’s good and there’s many fascinating songs. I thought that it only being 9 tracks that are mostly really long would put me off but due to the long song length it doesn’t matter so that’s good. I would also say that the best tracks on here are the most lyrically dense like all my friends.
I never fully got into LCD Soundsystem, although I don't dislike them either. They have some solid tracks that I enjoy listening to. This album specifically has some of my favorite tracks by them. Hard to choose between a 3 and a 4, but I'll lean towards 4.
Actually pretty great. Driving, mesmeric rhythms and great attitude. Maybe a little monotonous, but that's probably the point.
I loved this album. It was so much fun. Their music is so interesting.
Where are your friends toniiiiight

Resonant, funky, indulgent, a bit repetitive, and oh so nostalgic.
Just a nice shot of adrenalin. It checked my favorite box, that being an album I was completely unfamiliar with and enjoyed immensely right out of the box. I even listened multiple times and this pushed me to do over an hour on the treadmill while listening to it. In a nice piece of symmetry, as "Us V Them" was played at the end of the first episode of The Dropout, underscoring Elizabeth Holmes (or rather actress Amanda Seyfried) looking all smug. Actual rating is closer to a 4.5, there are just a few too many songs that pale in comparison to the bangers. But it's still a splendid surprise.
Cool album. Very interesting instrumentation and songwriting combo. I enjoy LCD Soundsystem's early stuff more than their later stuff.
I love this album. So dancey and infectious. New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down is truly an all-time classic track.
det här tyckte jag mycket om
I tried really hard to hate this album. It's not really in my wheelhouse and - at least early on - the Casio keyboard sound annoyed me at the beginning of each track. But - it really kinda grew on me. I heard a little Beck, a little U2 at times - even some Stones-like vibes in fleeting moments. It kept me interested, and there really isn't a "bad" track on the whole album. I really dug "New York" - granted that was a big departure from the rest of the album. Good stuff, all around.
Quite enjoyed that
Muito bom.
Some of this is great, it's all pretty accomplished. Vocals are a bit whiney.
Really strong and hooky, template for the future, love the counterintuitive moodiness in the dance templates.
Nice album, good for working.
Really interesting sounds and melodies. The songs are really long.
It’s great. At least half the songs are all-time classics. I imagine James Murphy is quite hard work though.
Deze is goed! aangename ontdekking. Al past de naam niet zo goed want door de naam keek ik er tegenop. time to get away is genieten
amai heel goed
great running listen
Record collection rock: the dance remix. That's the annoying thing: the album is obviously great. It's clever, it's groovy, it rocks out, it's amusing, it's urbane. But it just tries one erg too hard to demonstrate that it's too cool for school. Imagine a posh kid bringing in a 100 quid skateboard to show off to his classmates, then tumbling off and breaking his front teeth on a kerbstone the first time he tries a grind. LCD Soundsystem don't embarrass themselves so (as I said, the album is great), but they always seem at risk of injuring themselves in their desire to impress. I suppose I could argue that, like a Tarantino film referencing Godard, part of the fun is clocking the allusions to Kraftwerk and Suicide and New Order and Pink Floyd and such and such, but that neglects the fact that at his worst, such trainspottery tendencies by Tarantino grate rather than amuse due to the perceived lack of a real emotional core. Really, I want to give this album 5 stars, but I hesitate at the sense of a brag over ownership of a mint-condition vinyl copy of Station to Station.
Very enjoyable album. Wouldn't normally favor the genre but it was a fun listen. Fave track: North American Scum. Adore the punk influence.
Enjoyed coming back to this album.
Música electrónica y dance muy animosa. Venga, le pongo un 4.
Enjoyed this album quite a bit.
Loved it!
good to listen to this as a full album. good stuff. 4
I don't have a lot of experience with this sort of music, but this was a breeze to listen to. It had some really wonderful beats, and you can really feel that early 2000's vibe of punk rock suffused with the electronica. North American Scum & New York I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down are the standouts. Would recommend if you have a thing for early 2000's music in the same vein as The Gorillaz or The Killers, but with more dancing potential.
Great little dance tracks set against, bitter sweet dystopian lyrics. Loved this, had not listened before but have had it on repeat since. Banger
Familiar sounds even though I don't often choose to listen to lcd soundsystem - perhaps I should?
I keep forgetting I kind of like LCD Soundsystem. I think I prefer each song individually though, rather than a whole album at once!
Pretty dope! Funky and dancy with some weirder indie cuts. Pretty fun listen! 7/10
Funky sounds, cool percussion, I like how the vocals incorporate into the songs
liked this one, not going on heavy rotation anytime soon but was a decent listen
Really enjoyed this one
A precursor to the next 10 years of alt sound
Each time I listen to this album, I turn it on thinking I'll just play it in the background. And each time I listen to this album, I find myself progressing from unconciously tapping me feet to cranking it up and signing along. I just love how nearly every song grows and builds. "All My Friends" and "New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down" both exemplify what I'm talking about. Overall, this is one of my favorite albums and it's already on my list of heavy rotation, so it's easy for me to give this 4 stars.
"All My Friends" sounds like the Mr Rogers trolley music. This is such a weird album. It's a fun listen, even if at the same time I don't "get" the huge hype for the band...not really sure why this in particular is a top-1001? I do *almost* love it even if not my favourite type of music, but it definitely has its purpose - just that many of the songs a little too repetitive for me. Maybe that's the damn point of dance music? Eh - again - I had fun listening to it. I wouldn't call anything here musical genius or revolutionary but there is a surprising amount of diversity in the (again, repetitive) dance up-tempo rock, and the final song ("New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down") was a bit of a surprise. They sure like their cowbells, too. I'm feeling generous today - 4 stars. 7/10 4 stars
De lo mas interesante que he escuchado de la decada 2000-2010, cada canción con un sonido particular sin llegar a ser monotono. Nada fan de las canciones de 7 minutos.
Chirpy
Could be maybe a bit more diverse but still a fantastic album. Us V Them is always a banger.
This is music that takes several listens to grow on you but after it has, I really enjoy it. It’s almost like being “in the know” in a weird way. Like you appreciate the little notes and specific little sounds that aren’t obvious on first listen. Well I do anyway. I frequently wonder how many on this list I didn’t like or felt meh about are the same way.
Always loved this album and James Murphy in general. Probably my favorite LCD album from start to finish
Perhaps the most approachable of their albums. That said, I still have to be in the right mood, and for whatever reason I'm usually not, but then a couple songs in... and they got me.
Still full of bangers, but when you’re not listening to one of those tracks it takes a bit of a dive
Very talking heads
A stone cold classic - even though Murphy is an arse.
Generally not a fan of electronic music but this is pretty good actually. North American Scum is punk rock. This isn't boring ambient stuff or just a collection of club beats. There are some songs in here.
-"Time to Get Away" gets groovy with a decent bassline -"North American Scum" is catchy. Or maybe just repetitive. It also has a cool synth rhythm -"All My Friends" has got a fast, upbeat instrumental -In "Us V Them" I like the high pitched cowbell (?) rhythm. Blame Zini if that isn't actually a cowbell -Not really my usual style, but has some solid tracks and energy that I enjoyed
Bleep, blip, bloop, but with funk and soul
Two absolutely mind blowingly brilliant songs - the rest is quite good
Unleash the ravens
Muy buen álbum!
North American scum and all my friends were the only 2 songs I knew coming into this but set me up with high expectations. Get Innocuous! is a banger of an intro, really sets the tone and doesn't really feel like a 2007 song except for the female vocals, kraftwerk or similar vibes. Time to Get Away is more the vocal style I expected, cowbell-y drums and funk. I love north american scum, I listen to it several times a month if not weekly which is uncommon for me, "New York's the greatest if you get someone to pay the rent", "You see, I love this place that I have grown to know" always stick in my head about Dublin/Ireland when I think about continental europe and its better/later nightlife. someone great - Love a bit of synth when used sparingly and right and Someone Great is a great example of that, great contrast between the voice and the subject matter. "The coffee isn't even bitter Because, what's the difference?" "And it keeps coming and it keeps coming And it keeps coming 'til the day it stops" I always really like sad songs with upbeat melodies. All My Friends, poor keyboardist must be wrecked after this is played live. "You spent the first five years trying to get with the plan And the next five years trying to be with your friends again" is a great line. u vs them - "Bells!" their drummer is deadly on this track and in several others. watch the tapes - love that strummy and distorted sound that they use in several songs like this - "You, you turn 25 and now you're all out of escapes, c'mon" sound of silver - simple banger - sums up a lot of the albums nostalgia/time/aging feelings New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down - anyone want a ballad to end off here you go "But you're still the one pool Where I'd happily drown" a great love (and "hate") song to a place very high 4 but not a 5, possibly a low 5 really. I have given out a 5 I think should have been a strong 4 so will leave this at 4 but a really strong one.
Absolutely brilliant album. Iconic. Seriously good listen and nostalgic from the get go. Rescued this 1001 album process for me as I was one hip hop or folk album away from swallowing my phone so I couldn’t access this page any more. 4 stars because 5 is for a true masterpiece. It would be 4.5 if possible.
Loved this. I have a backlog of albums to listen to but stuck this one on a second time.
This is a FUN listen. Nothing as immediately ear catching as Losing my Edge or Daft Punk ... at my House. But this is going into heavy rotation. 4 stars
Nice enough, not particularly my genre, i expect more complexity in the lyrics. Other than them, great sound!
06.05.2021.
Enjoyed it far more than expected. Some great individual tracks, combined with an overall flow from start to finish. Will definitely re-visit.
Not really my thing, but I can appreciate the quality.
Super punchy beats all around, driving dance tunes with catchy hooks, sounds like this could be made today instead of 2007! Favs - All My Friends, North American Scum
I really like the whole vibe of this. I was always a fan of Daft Punk is Playing At My House and this is a bunch more of the same. Even the songs that go on forever I kind of like. Would listen again.
This is an album I've already listened to, and I'll listen to it again. There is something about James Murphy's voice, his delivery, and the rest of the music that comes with it. In general I like LCD Soundsystem. I like this album too. "Someone Great" is my favorite track. On it's own, I would give "Someone Great" 5 stars. "Us vs. Them", "All My Friends", "Watch the Tapes", and "Get Innocuous!" deserve some attention as well. There are a couple of tracks that are "okay", but the album works as a whole. I would give this album 4.25 stars
I like this more than I thought I would. I had previously tried this album but was being impatient and never gave it a full chance. Favorite Track : Get Innocuous! Least Favorite Track : Someone Great
All My Friends elevates this to modern classic on its own but on a whole its a belter of an album.
solid. Very New York
Surprisingly i like it
Never knew of their material...until I listened to the album. This is why I really dig this album generator. "New York I love you...." Great song.
Would listen to again. Never really new anything about this band despite the hype but really dug this album.
Really liked this! 4.5 if I could. Sound of Silver, Someone Great were my favorite tracks
Great, big fan
Just a fun listening experience. The vocals range from rather meloncholy and idealistic to quite wacky. I love the beats, and the combo of synths and guitar work so well. Fav Song: All My Friends
buenos ritmos, sintes, etc. para escuchar entero haciendo algo
When this was big among the cool kids, I used to think it was a bit repetitive. Now I'm a bit older and think I understand dance music better, and the themes of this album. This is middle aged dance punk and at 36 in 2021 it was a melancholy delight. A
Fone: KZ ZS10 Pegada meio Pink Floyd, gostei
Great album. The instrumental music is instrument and the almost discordant vocals make the songs sound unique and interesting. All wrapped up nicely with the final song, which is just a classic. I enjoy music which speaks about things other than than cliche topics, LCD Soundsystem definitely does that.
classic LCD, better than I remember it when I first listened like... 9years ago or so. The mix of electronics + normal rock instrumentation make an almost playful sound. Probably inspired Vulfpeck in a way
Enjoyable. Provoked discussion. Still feel like a lot of their tunes tease something more and then don't quite deliver, but enjoyable nonetheless. Would be a 3.5 if the masses weren't idiots and voted to keep this archaic system we have.
Loved the beats and vibe of the album much more than I was expecting. Missing the special something to get it to a 5 but listened through it a couple of times through before rating rather than moving onto a diff album so that gets it a 4
I enjoyed this.
Soundtrack-able sounds and a range. Doesn't feel super cohesive but has some bangers.
7/10. I didn't have super high expectations for an hour long electronic album, but I never really found myself disliking this one. There were bits where it felt a bit repetitive, sure, but not so long as to be unpleasant. That said, there were also no stand-out moments that make me want to rate it above a 7, so here I stand.
Not my style, pero chido.
Groovy record with lots of references and a bunch of really strong songs.
I've never been a huge fan of electronic music, but I really liked this album. Some of the songs went on a bit too long, but I enjoyed it for the most part.
It's interesting that I hate that punk chorus sing along shit, but when LCD Soundsystem does it, it fees ironic. I like this. I've heard most of it. The final track hits particularly hard for me.
I’ve put off listening to this “band” right up until about an hour ago and for no real good reason other than it just seemed like something I wouldn’t like. But I did! It’s almost as if my blanket generalization based upon absolutely nothing turned out to be kind of a dumb thing to do. Huh. Anywho, I like the mix of melody to beat and the whole 80s vibe of a lot of this. I will be exploring more of the catalog now.
I didn't expect to like this. I don't usually go for electronic music, but this had a lot more heart than what I've heard in this genre before. That heart probably comes from the inclusion of lyrics to give breaks to the heavy, and constant, techno sound. All leading up so a nice soft piano song really worked for me.
Fun electronic sound, very versatile album.
this was sick. supa heat :D
really enjoyed
Great album and band, I loved Time to Get Away, All my Friends, and others had some great beats to listen to.
Begint met Kraftwerk - check ook 'American Dream' (album LCD Soundsystem 2017)
Solid solid album , quite angsty here and there , but I didnt actually mind it that much.
Enjoyed this one. Very different sounds in one album. Will be listening to some more of their stuff.
Different
New jam
I enjoyed this much more than I expected. I never could get into this band but having to listen to the old album helped me figure out why people are into this band.
New York, I don't love you; always bringing me down
Awesome. Never heard of it before. Sounds a lot like the raptors from Toronto. I would like to see if you came first
dece
Very good not what i expected loved the laser disco punk vibe
A familiar classic
11/30 Really enjoyable dance Electro-pop album, it's got that late 2000s optimistic, positive sound to it. Standout Tracks: Get Innocuous!, North American Scum, Us V Them, Sound of Silver, New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down
꽤괜
Good!
I read reviews filled with nostalgia and was waiting for great vibes but I found this a little boring. I’m worried I’m becoming musically numb!
mid 3.5.
i like this a lot, i def like a different album of theirs better but still a bop
I did much like it yes. Really crisp, mixing and production, great at World building. The instruments weren’t too robotic and I felt a lot of emotion come through the music. I’m not sure how much I would actually go back and listen to it, but it was a great listen
I feel like over time my rating has gone down. Initially my thoughts were drowned in hype. in math, each number is defined by itself without any context. an equation can be read and understood alone by combining multiple numbers who each have their own definition. James Murphy has brought sounds together like math. Each instrument defines itself and stands alone, but when brought together with the numbers, it creates a new novel sound. Because of the out-of-the-blue nature of these piecewise collections of sounds, there isn't a directed emotion that it evokes. It feels so baseless it creates a new world that I think is emotionally defined by whoever is listening. all that being said, ts lowkey sound like something that'd play in a museum exhibit or during an animated transition of a 2000's educational video you'd watch in science class.
Beneath the irony and silly voices, there’s some really incredible music here. A lot of it feels like an acquired taste
Feel like this is the point they started taking themselves too seriously, some fun tracks but also some overwrought more serious tracks which may work for some but for me 🤢
Mmmm espero que salga otro de LCD por que este no me pareció tan bueno
