yes! rakt upp i
Love some of the songs on here. Not the full album though. It is a bit funky at times.
Liebs
Another one where i knew the name of the group but couldn’t name a single track. I liked it, but wouldn’t seek it out.
8/10 - solid album, great sound and some bangers
Someone Great and All My Friends is an incredible one two punch. Get Innocuous is also a jam. I was certainly boogieing to this album for the first half. There is definitely punk influence in this album, especially in the back half with the lyricism and repetition. Definitely trended down toward the end, but I gave it a relisten immediately after and was reminded on how strong the first 5 songs are.
Blew me away. I had pretty low expectations but this was actually a very enjoyable listen.
Svängigt, groovy, catchy, svårt att inte stampa takten medan man lyssnar. Helvete va vissa låtar är liksom perfekta blandningen av disco och indie. Glad överraskning!
Dancy, funky, so 2010’s, I can’t believe I missed this album before?
pretty good stuff, one of the better examples of an indie rock/electronica fusion thing
Great
OLED is better, but this is still pretty good
A lotta bangers on this one
Good one.
Always have enjoyed various bits of LCDS's work, but enjoyed this album in its entirety more than anticipated.
Sweet grooves and witty lyrics it's just a fun dance punk album. Also weird how the popheads didn't embrace them but the rock crowd did
I didn’t pay any attention to this when it came out, and, gosh, I missed out. James Murphy’s vocals are idiosyncratic and, well, fun. The songs, which are as much disco and, erm, Arcade Fire as they are electronica, are dang fun, too. I especially like “Time to Get Away.”
LCD Soundsystem feels like the stereotypical Pitchfork band to me. Pretty fun indie music that Pitchfork seems to think literally changed the world. Going in with that expectation made them seem underwhelming, but over time I’ve grown to like them more. I still don’t think LCD Soundsystem is that groundbreaking or anything, but they make some pretty dang good music
Funky...love this. Can listen to this in any situation
Yeah I really like this album. All my friends is the standout track. Exhilarating
This is up my alley for sure. Didn't really listen to a lot of LCD Soundsystem at the time outside of North American Scum and All My Friends, and now I'm wondering why. Never got round to it I guess
Solid 4, good energy, would have liked a bigger ending/final track but solid stuff
I actually really enjoyed this! I love small progression things like these where the artists keep layering beats on top of each other, until it cumulates into the finish. To me, this is perfect background music while I'm doing tasks that require me to be slightly, but not completely focused. Admittedly, I wouldn't want to listen to this all the time, but definitely something I'll throw on while doing basketball statistics or boring paperwork. Favorite songs were Get Innocuous!, Somone Great and Sound of Silver.
Actually really jammed out with this! Really liked North American Scum
I was introduced to LCD Soundsystem through the Noah Baumbach film White Noise and ever since, they've figured into my playlists. Very unique use of sound...I love the weird, unexpected lyrics that are dancy while also furthering an existential crisis. It's also not that deep.
North American Scum alone would've gotten it 3 stars
catchy. synth. rock. electric. groovy.
I get it, I suppose. It's good for a party. It's catchy It's danceable. That's all.
Enjoyed this much more than I expected. Everybody loves to clown on James Murphy but the songs are good, even if they usually overstay their welcome. Someone Great and All My Friends are my personal standouts but honorable mentions for North American Scum and Us V Them, which were surprise hitters for me. Really enjoyed.
Kind of an indie/alt rock lofi sound. Has some funk rhythms too. Great album. Every song is engaging. My favorites are Get Innocuous, Tome to Get Away, North American Scum, Someone Great, All My Friends, New York I Love You.
For some reason I thought LCD Soundsystem and Fontaines DC were the same band. When I thought about it for more than 4 seconds I realised I was wrong, but that took me until track 5 Anyway. I liked this! Think I'd only heard NYILY before. A solid 4/5 Songs added to playlist: - Time to Get Away - Someone Great - All My Friends - New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down
Surprisingly a great album. I wasn't expecting much after the first song, but it got into some really nice grooves later on, and the lyrics were also really solid.
The first impression with the first song didn't convince me, but as the album progressed, I really started to like it. A great listen and overall enjoyed it quite a bit. I can tell we're getting to more modern stuff because this is very close to the kind of thing I listen to.
This sounds so timeless
Dug this more than I anticipated.
Always heard the name, but never heard the music. This album was a lot of fun! Groovy, funky, energetic, and chill all at the same time. Easily a 4/5 for me.
This album for me is an essence of good quality mid 2000s music. Some of the songs reminded me of Franz Ferdinand. Too bad I didn't discover them earlier, I would listen a lot to them in my teens. I really enjoyed a night stroll around the city with this album in my headphones.
De esas bandas por las que me registré a esto. Nunca escuchada, siempre nombrada. Disco genial. Danspunk, electrónica, todo. 8/10
Had never listened to an LCD Soundsystem album in its entirety, but I've loved "North American Scum" for years, so I figured I would enjoy this. Definitely the first of many spins.
Electronic dance Someone great All my friend's
Loved it … any album that makes me dance while cooking tea = 4 stars 🪩😍
this album is kind of a trip to listen to in full because it’s mostly well-structured and fun electronic dance songs with pretty silly self-indulgent lyrics, plus a few very grand and emotionally resonant opuses (opii?) that still manage to stop me in my tracks and make me tear up no matter how many times i’ve heard them. i think pitchfork was probably right to name ‘all my friends’ as the second-best song of the 2000s. the repetitive nature of electronica is much more compelling when it is layered with interesting lyrics. which is not to say that every single song on this album has interesting lyrics. but those ones are fun anyway. yeah you got me james murphy. fav tracks: all my friends; new york i love you…; someone great; watch the tapes
This feels like the kind of stuff I want to dance to, while at the same time can recognize is actually very well made and a bit deeper than the average mindless dance music. It feels like a party until the end when the party catches up with you in “New York, I Love You but You’re Bringing Me Down”. I like how dynamic it is in that sense. Fav tracks: North American Scum; Someone Great; New York, I Love You…
Forgot how great this album is - upbeat, varied, unusual enough to not be too mainstream but not too weird. Gave me the energy I needed to get back into my working day!
Back in 2007 I was a young-ish aspiring hipster, keeping up with The Scene as much as possible. And of course, this album was required listening at the time. You couldn't swing a dead cat without it telling you how great Sound of Silver is. So I gave it a shot and it was kinda fun, if a little rhythmically abrasive. So pulling it up again this morning I juts sighed. I wasn't in the mood for this. And two minutes in, I'm bobbing my head. With each track I'm bobbing it even more. By the time we're on "All My Friends," I'm totally bought in. I think the trick to this album is to give yourself a break halfway through. Otherwise it really is too much of the same all at once. But these first five songs are stellar, and earn the album its score all by itself. I'll be firing this one back up more often for susre. FOUR STARS
I was expecting it to be pretentious and overrated, but the music was quite good and only a little pretentious! Maybe it would mean more to me if I lived in New York, but we can't all have generational wealth.
C'est bon bon bon. Mais c'est This Is Happening qui devrait être dans la liste parce que c'est le MEILLEUR.
Something great.
"Sound of Silver" is the kind of album where hating it is, to me, a big red flag, but insisting it's the best album ever bar none is, to me, also a big red flag.
It was prettt good, some of the songs just kinda blurred together in the background but once Sound of Silver started my ears perked up!
Great album. Never listened to a full album of this before although have been a fan of the odd tracks I've heard previously
Catchy electronic beats with some epic length songs sprinkled in.
If Terry Riley made indie music, I think it would sound like this.
from the onset i would say I like the songs that are not specifically their sound. New york I love you was by a country mile the standout song. Second half of the album was great annd i enjoyed it much more than the first half. I am still not going to go out and buy this or have a desire to find out more about them, but after a second listen I upgraded this for an almost 4 to a 4 Notable songs: All my Friends, Us vs Them, Sound of Silver, Watch the Tapes, New york I love you but you're bringing me down 4 stars
James Murphy's lyrics made him sound like an arse but his music is class
Sounds good in my ears
Very good album I liked it a lot
Pretty good
I've always wanted to get into LCD Soundsystem but for some reason found it somewhat inaccessible. This seems like a great gateway album. Time to get away is an incredible song. Followed by North American Scum, which is one of my favorites and a reason I've wanted to get into LCD Soundsystem. Someone Great is another really fun song. Overall, I think this is a great album to introduce LCD Soundsystem and I see a lot of parallels between other artists like Daft Punk or Radiohead. It's kind of a blend of the two.
surprisingly good
Fast paced electronica dance rock that’s high energy with a steady beat and high tech sound effects. North America Scum is the top track, but they’re all good. Enjoyed this listen during an elliptical routine. (4.4*s)
LCD Soundsystem is a great electronica alt-rock band. It is very difficult to combine lyrics with elctro-beats and make it sound good but this band nailed it. Sound of Silver is a fun trip through beats and the talented mind of James Murphy. Good marks for this work but they have even better albums which I hope some make the list. If you aren't in on this go read all the pamphlets and watch the tapes cause these guys kick ass...4.05 stars.
Perfect excuse for me to delve a little deeper into LCD Soundsystem. I know a couple of their more popular songs but have never listened to an album. I really liked what I got in Sound of Silver. James Murphy and company are really creative in their use of electronic instruments with some traditional backing. They meld genres really effectively and pump out a really fun, high energy collection of tracks, all of which are solid. James Murphy's vocal style adds another layer of onion to help them stand out as a unique act in contemporary music. Really nice entry by LCD Soundsystem. They are a band that I need to get more familiar with. Every time I hear them come up I'm interested and I've yet to hear something from them that I didn't like. Keep it coming. 4.07 stars
Trippy
“North American Scum” sure hits different today dunnit. “New York I Love You,” too. It’s like dance music for the dystopia.
I was all prepared to not like these guys but by the third song they had totally won me over. I don't know if any other album sounds like this but if they do, they have my vote. Pop music for smart people, and you can dance to it also!!!
Excellent, but the debut is better
I wish I could get more into this but it just doesn't do it for me. Respect for that last track though.
Yea def fell into a whole groove thing there. Liked it much more than I was thinking I would
Once again I found I quite enjoyed this group's (and mostly James Murphy's) stuff. And they made me think of Talking Heads. A little synth heavy at times but still head bop worthy. Get Innocuous!, All My Friends, Us v Them, and the title track were solid. Time to Get Away, North American Scum, and Watch the Tapes were real good - bopping all the way.
There’s some serious millennial bangers on this one. I honestly haven’t revisited this record in a long time. It still sounds great by today’s standards. It brought back fond memories of riding the M train through an ungentrified Brooklyn, people watching, and listening to this using a classic iPod. Oddly, my least favorite song on this album is probably the title track.
Интересно, необычно, последняя песня прям кайф
Genre: Indietronica Big sounds, deep vocals, and some really great production and mixing, Sound of Silver is one of the best indie albums the 2000s has to offer. The vocals are a bit hit or miss for me, but the music is truly magnificent. Lush, beautiful arrangements over big 2-3 chord vamps. Really solid, and really nice and electronic, which I was not expecting. THE TIME HAS COME. THE TIME HAS COME. 4/5
I love this album. Perfect blend of indie pop and dance music with dry, sarcastic lyrics. Get Innocuous, All My Friends, Us vs Them and Someone Great are all masterpieces, the zenith of the genre. Masterful build ups and releases. North American Scum and Time to Get Away are great, shorter tunes and New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down is a surprisingly beautiful and melanchonic closer, a real change in tone that works absolutely perfectly. The only real downside is the two tune run of the title track and Watch The Tapes. The title track is just repetitive and dull, not helped by being over 7 minutes long, easily the lowlight of the album and the only song I consider skipping. Watch The Tapes is decent, but just a bit meh in comparison to the earlier short songs. Shortest song on the album though. Would be a 9/10, gotta give it a 4.
Love it. I think its amazing and the type of music I wish I could make. North American Scum, Someone Great, and All My Friends are a great run of songs.
Listened to this in the morning when I was in a bit of a rush and it was pleasant enough, but passed me by a little. Listened again in the evening, in a far more relaxed mood, and it was loads better. Definitely some aggregation of parts going on, but I'm on the fence as to whether it all works, or if it's greater than the sum. I would probably go with 3.5, but I'm rounding up to 4.
It's pretty good! Not going to lie, at this moment I am not really in the mood for such a upbeat almost party album lol. I am sure there is a hint of irony behind like more outright hedonostic themes, but I have not been paying attention to the lyrics. The songs are a little too long for my taste but I think the instrumentals are interesting enough to retain my attention. For example, the drum breakdown of "Us v. Them". I reckon this is the point where I have to weigh out the subjective and objective factors around this album. I think that in another time, I would actually really enjoy this album but right now I am not feeling it. Like I recognise this album is real good but I can't seem to be in the mood for it lol so might weigh it lower than I would otherwise out of sheer personal enjoyment. Considering I think this album will hit really hard once I have the mental energy to look at the lyrics and pay attention to the instrumental intricacies, I am comfortable giving it a 4 stars now. 12/9/25
Didn’t know what to expect but their name is quite accurate to their music to be honest, the electronic parts anyway. There was also a clear influence of post-punk/ new wave kind of like talking heads with the way it sounded with the rhythm guitar and the vocals sometimes. There was also the electronic aspect as mentioned which was a bit like daft punk or something mixed with punky/ new wave elements. There was also indie rock mixed with like indie dance. It was definitely a variety anyway, most of it was really good, it got a little repetitive sometimes especially with the length of the songs, some of them mixed it up well and kept it interesting with progression within the instrumental like north American scum or all my friends, the latter of which had a repeated piano motif but the drums and electronic parts got more potent and changed towards the end. But some definitely felt a bit more samey throughout the song like someone great or the first song which definitely wasn’t helped by the fact they are on the longer end of song time. Favourites: Time to get away, North American scum, All my friends, Us vs them and watch the tapes. Overall, 7/10.
Surprisingly good album. Recording sounds very high quality. 3.5
Come back to me in 10 years or so and this just might get a 5. Somewhat superb, time will tell.
Quite an amazing album, solid four-and-a-half record in my books. Electronic music with an indie rock sensibility, great recommendation to listen to on a Friday (sadly, I had to listen to it on a Tuesday instead).
Indie pop electro punk. Had some cool grooves.
Great
Cool :3
Amazing production here. Someone Great is an alltime favourite of mine. The songs might go on too long but I don't mind at all
Super infectious beats. Am already familiar with LCD, and this isn't my favourite, but still very good.
holy shit, that three track run from someone great - all my friends - us v them is astonishingly good even though the rest is not quite as good, I think this album gets at least an 8/10 just for that
4 stars
To (loosely) quote Stephen Cobert, It's like I died and went to Brooklyn This album hit better back then. I thought maybe it would immediately bring me back to 2007/8 because this album was inescapable. But maybe, BECAUSE it was so ubiquitous, going back in time couldn't happen. Maybe it hasn't been long enough. Maybe, I've just moved on. Keeping the rating for the memories
i quite like it, very danceable
Ok
Enjoyed it! My two favorites were "All My Friends" and "Someone Great." Definitely plan to listen to LCD's other projects.
Pretty, pretty good
Big anxious beats and synth
This is a good album. Yes there are songs that become annoying (the foundational beat to All My Friends - yes, I went there) but there is more good here than bad. North American Scum, Someone Great and of course NYILY are top notch. 4/5
Interesting, it's very much uniquely their style, a fun listen.
We know this one. It’s Friday night, fall 2013
Increíble!!!! Me encantó la fusión rock y electrónica
Genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed this.
I really enjoyed this! I've always wanted to listen to LCD Soundsystem. I get the hype. The sounds are great!
This is some dope friggin stuff baby! Bring back dance music!
Decent
If you like it it’s good
Yo no era muy de música electrónica. Discos como este me acercaron a ella
Amazing sound throughout when you listen closely. Some outstanding songwriting as well. Not sure every song stands up well enough for 5 stars but it is very close. Would maybe be 5 on another day.
Starting off strong! I’ve never heard of this band but I really liked this album. it’s certainly very different from what i normally listen to. favorite song: North American Scum
They can do something i absolutely love (someone great, all my friends, new york i love you) but most often do something i can’t love (high quality dance punk) I toyed with a low 5 because these three songs are incredible and someone great and new york might be two of the best tracks i’ve ever heard in indie, but i’m landing on a high 4 because the dance punk never quite fully engages me
Very excited for this one, as I'm seeing LCD Soundsystem in August. I love LCD's ability to evoke a time WAY before their own in a way that feels truly authentic and not just nostalgic or repetitive. They aren't emulating the sound from that era, they ARE the sound. It's just great old school electronica vibes. Every song has an addictive quality that really makes me feel like I should be dancing already. I've heard a lot of these songs individually and love them, I just haven't heard them all in order! There's just such a great energy to all of the songs without it feeling overdone. I don't usually like long songs but somehow LCD Soundsystem is addictive enough that I never want them to end. I love how the entire album builds to New York I love you but you're bringing me down. It's the pinnacle of scathing commentary and it's so dang good. It's a complete subversion from where you expect the album to end. So good!
This is NOT a must listen to album. This a neo-disco dance music album. Definitely a groove, but not essential. It's actually not a bad album. Even though it's outside my norm, there are a few songs with catchy funk grooves and worth listening to. Best Songs Time To Get Away Someone Great All My Friends Us V Them
Great album. Love the layering on the songs. Some of the tracks do drone on a little bit but, still it is fun album to listen to.
Wasn’t super familiar with this (besides All My Friends) and really enjoyed it.
Tracks 1-5 good, tracks 6-8 abysmal, track 9 again good. I don’t think I can give a 5 when 1/3 of the album sucks.
Gives me flashbacks of the mid and late 00s, in clubs in Tokyo and Rhode Island. Not all of the memories it brings up are pleasant ones, though I suppose I have the music to thank for making me sort through them again.
I had never heard this one before now. Great album. “All My Friends” is one of the most wonderful songs I’ve heard in a long time, “New York I Love You” is a fantastic closer, and while “Get Innocuous!” takes a while to build up, it is a great time once it hits it’s stride. If I could levy any complaint at this album, some of the songs do go on for a little too long, but I could definitely see myself returning to this one and giving it a 5. I loved this album.
All my friends es como Frand Ferdinand... Pero el resto es como mas misterioso. Mi favo es New York I love you but you're bringing me down.
It’s not bad! It’s not like cooking a steak that you need to know when to turn off the stove. This album is like cooking chicken. It has to be 100% cooked. And the deliciousness depends on how you season and marinate it. So the repetitiveness makes sense. Chicken has to be fully cooked! The album is flavourful, lots of different instruments. Vocals are tasteful too. Everything is there because of their artistic choice.
Really liked this album. Although would not recommend it for driving home on on long car ride being slightly tired because there’s a number of songs in the middle section that play the same notes the whole song and can really lull u to sleep.
LCD has such a cool and unique sound.
4.25
I'm a bit unsure how I feel about LCD Soundsystem, they've got some good songs, but there isn't a lot of variation in the music. When I first listened to this album, I found the repetition in the music of the first two tracks quite hard work, only starting to enjoy myself from North American Scum onwards. On a second listen, while walking the dog, the repetition wasn't so jarring. It became more enjoyable as a background for doing something else. There's definitely better indie electronica from the noughties, Hot Chip being the most notable example. Nothing on this album compares to music on The Warning or One Life Stand, but I found myself liking it nonetheless.
Probably their best album
Excellent album, the compositions are outstanding and Murphy nails an precise balance between ambitious experimentation and catchiness. He writes complex songs that spawn several minutes, passing through different motifs and ideas. It flows very well and is very cohesive, yet every track has its own distinctive sound and idea. The songwriting is also great, it feels personal but also relatable. The singing is maybe the least noteworthy, as it's obvious he isn't a super gifted singer, but he delivers well in all the songs. The backing vocals are good too. "Get Innocuous!" is excellent, I loved "Someone Great" too, it felt very personal. "Us v Them" and "Watch the Tapes" are very good too, super energetic and catchy. This record felt like a 9, but I'll leave it at 4 stars for now just because I'm not 100% convinced to give it 5.
The 21st century version of “Remain in Light”. Futuristic in its production and deeply inspired in its lyrics, this is a near masterpiece that will be on my rotation for a while. 4.5/5
Someone great is one of the best songs ever written
not my first listen but IS my first full-through listen, have seen LCD soundsystem perform songs from this album several times.
8,5/10 Highlights: North American Scum Someone Great All My Friends New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down
Incredible production and fully realised ideas make this a must listen.
This is really good, I’ve heard LCD but never really sat down and listened to a whole album. I’ll check out more of their stuff
perhaps i was unfair in writing LCD Soundsystem off for all these years.
lots of the reviews saying this is repetitive need to chill out. this is good fun music!
Liked it a lot more then I remember
Good tunes thx
I've never loved any other LCD Soundsystem albums I've heard, so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. Not typically my jam, but this was pretty good. 3.9
Highlights Get Innocuous Watch the Tapes New York I Love You, but You're Bringing Me Down
An almost perfect album. He really did create a genre and I’m grateful for it. Electronic or indie. Whatever it is, it’s so enjoyable.
Didn't know what to expect going into this - it was a nice mix of sounds throughout. Some parts I didn't like as much, but I found there to be something that would quickly follow to make the experience not as bad.
Original, propulsive
This album was fundamental to me at one point to pretty much getting into dancier rock and enjoying this era of music (mid to late 00s punky dance rock), and while this album is great and has some of the best songs ever (Someone Great and New York I Love You) I do think that over time I stopped being as in love with this album (and LCD's music generally), mainly because of how the length of some of the songs would sometimes prevent me from ever wanting to go back, right now I kept thinking these songs would get so much out of getting trimmed by a minute or two. Yeah dance music operates in long songs and all but I think North American Scum didn't need to do the chorus 2 more times for it to get more grating, I don't have as many gripes with the other songs but I still feel like Time to Get Away, All My Friends and the title track didn't need to go on for that long, they are great songs still though and really so is the entire album. I don't love it like I used to but I think over time with more listens I will be able to get a better sense of the things that click so much with me and what doesn't
Very cool album!
What a fun album! Brings me back to college and our summer in Boston. A few bangers on here that I could listen to on repeat!
Recognize a couple songs, quite enjoyed it overall.
Watch the Tapes and you’ll see how it’s Time to Get Away and listen to this album.
4.5/5. And that’s how it starts… One of the highlights of the indie sleaze era, so millennial it hits me with all the existential dread.
We are North American Scum! Pretty cool album, mixed with lots of fun sounds and beats. Pretty good
Much love for LCD Soundsystem. Ive enjoyed this album for a long time. I love the droney instrumentals, and Nancy Whangs erratic keyboard playing. This album shows a lot of love for New York. This came out at towards the end of a hot streak for the NY indie scene, The Strokes, and Interpol to name a few of their legendary contemporaries.
Great to revisit this after listening so many times in college. -Someone Great -All My Friends -Us V Them -Sound of Silver
Loved this, really got me pumped. Been really enjoying the dance music this project has been giving me the last few days. Made me feel like I was at a rave, brought so much euphoria
This was pretty sick felt inspired by the electronic stuff from Radiohead
like I’m 7
I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Definitely a fun and catchy album, but feels like it has a lot more to it than just danceable vibes.
It had its moments. I didn't need to be lectured about gentrification, though.
I had this one when it was new. Super fun beats all the way through.
That was a lot of fun! The only regret I have is listening to it at like 1am right before I go to sleep because I'm amped lol. Super fun with the loops it does suck you right in. At some points throughout where I was like "okay, I'm hearing way too much of the same thing," something new and exciting happens. Some standouts included "All My Friends", "Someone Great", and "North American Scum". Maybe at some point I'll try again when it's not so late at night.
Toe tapper, head banger, body groover are just a couple of words to describe this album. Every track in this album hits and I didn't find any that disappointed. Favourite Track(s): Get Innocuous, Time to Get Away, Sound of Silver Least Favourite Track(s): Watch the Tapes
Ett väldigt fint album. Tyckte han var lite knasig innan men detta är så bra uttryckt
top songs: all my friends, new york, someone great, watch the tapes the album is such a journey but it dragged a little in the middle
North American Scum is the standout track - however “Someone great”, “All my friends” make for some good background ambience. “New York, I love you But you’re bringing me down” is a wonderful sentiment.
Ever heard a record that makes being middle-aged sound like a sneaky badge of honor? LCD Soundsystem’s Sound of Silver walks that line. It splashes glossy disco melodies and brittle punk-funk all over James Murphy’s world-weary ruminations, but somehow keeps them toe-tapping. The album’s production is a riot of shiny contrasts – chugging analog synths and slab-handed drum machines collide with guitars and honky-tonk piano – polished enough to soundtrack your next after-hours party, but warm enough to still feel lived-in. Murphy’s vocals drift between deadpan monotone and falsetto yelp, serving lines that shuffle between existential dread and one-liners. There’s biting wit in tracks like “North American Scum” (a manic punk-parade of political ennui) and genuine ache in “Someone Great” (an elegy disguised as a cathartic rave-out). “All My Friends” stands out as that eight-minute mantra of monotony and minor-chord drama – think Joy Division churning out disco – an anthem for realizing you’ve graduated from scruffy kid to sleep-deprived adult. By the last track, it feels less like a party mix and more like a carefully staged memory. The result? A record that seems meticulously manicured – you can practically see the studio walls decked in reflective tin foil – yet somehow lived-in, like your favorite sweat-stained club T-shirt reissued on vinyl. Nearly two decades on, Sound of Silver still outlasts its contemporaries. Its blend of retro throwbacks and deadpan sincerity basically dared every future band: mix your vintage synths with some self-awareness and see what happens. Today it’s the kind of record that smug hipsters name-drop to prove they were ahead of the curve – and honestly, who’s going to argue? In short, Sound of Silver is basically gospel for the disillusioned dancefloor – granting permission to age so long as the disco ball’s still spinning. Heck, it’s cocky enough to admit that blasting this album might make you as insufferably cool as it pretends to be.
This one was a lot of fun! For me, this kind of music is that you play during a setup like a car ride at the late evening when you have an hour or more to get to your destination (not driving through a city). I don't think I will ever play the whole album while at home, but on a ride like that, definitely! The repetitive parts last a looot more than I would like or enjoy, but still, a really fun album.
Chill, not too bad musicianship is alr
Very much enjoyed this, not what I expected at all. Reminds me of Cake
Écoute une fois sans trop faire attention mais plutôt tranquille et diversifié
Favorite Track: Get Innocuous!
Hyviä juttuja! En ehkä solistin esiintymisestä kauheesti tykkänny kaikessa, mut instrut sen verran hyviä että kehtaa tälle nelosen antaa. 4/5
4/5
No notes. Mad I didn’t listen to this sooner, but happy to know it exists now :)
Album de indie rock et d'électronique, très cool, l'album rend nostalgique des années fin 2000, d'un temps plus simple, bref c'est super
Great album A little bit of a relic for the indie sleaze days but still great
I have a love hate relationship with this band. People love them too much. They're good but I hate how pretentious they are. It is fun at a party sometimes. All My Friends was my anthem in college though.
The main purpose of this album is to make the listener dance, and I'd be damned if I didn't. Almost every song offer some element that make your body move, that being catchy melodies ir very present grooves. I said almost because the last song feels more like a rock tune that a dance banger. I also have the feeling that the lyrics maybe hiding some deep message, but english is not my mother-tongue and, most of the time, ir I couldn't understand what he was saying ir I was too focused in the instruments.
"Dance punk revival" was a childish mistake. The broader period of "indie bands with synths" was a mistake. House remix b-sides of alt-rock songs was a mistake. The big, brash sound of electro-house makes me feel nothing, except regret at how much of a tasteless time the early 2000s were. Thankfully, some talent manages transcend all its murky shittiness. This album has irritating, shrill vocals, annoyingly saccharine funk grooves, unsubtle "big beat" drums, and a perpetually cartoonish positivity. But man it's good. It's not "so bad it's good" or like guiltily/ironically good - it's just really fuckin good. 4*
fun silly disco inspo rock music from the 2000's!! what more could you want from music haha
A little repetitive at times, but otherwise pretty nice. Standout tracks: Someone Great, All My Friends, New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down
3.5/5 I appreciate and enjoy this album. New York, I love You but You’re Bringing Me Down is phenomenal.
Like Matt Johnson and The The, James Murphy is a one-man band genius.
My personal favorite. A think it’s a great “start” to the LCD Soundsystem discography.
Groovy. This is my kind of music, but there wasn't as much lyric complexity as I would like. All My Friends and Watch the Tapes got added to one of my playlists
Bangers class
Groovy, good walking downtown music, early 2000s nostalgia vibes
While not my favorite album from these guys, really solid offering here.
Overall great, a few songs are slightly unremarkable
This is still important and relevant music.
8/10 groovy, fun
Not my favorite band, lots of lengthy songs with too much build up and waiting. I think that they are best as background music, ie not the focus. Had at least one of my favorite songs by them on it though.
so good. yay.
лютейший плюс вайб, мне зашло, 4/5, максимальная оценка только для сумерек
He was the star of every club night in 2005-2009. New York, I Love You is one of the top songs of all time.
This album reminds me of when you take too much acid and then finger blast your ex to try and get her back only to sober up and realize you've been fondling your switchboard for the past few hours. Unfortunately, he hit the g-spot here. Stacy, if you're reading this please come back.
Pretty good album.
I don’t like all of the songs, but the ones I do like I like a lot
Have never listened to this album before and still it is so nostalgic
Indie-dance-pop. It’s pretty good, but not anything special.
it's sound like psychodelics rock. Artist is lived up to their name. I haven't listen somethings like this in while. It's very nice experince for me however i don't really into this kind of music.
Sound of Silver is a fantastic album that showcases an impressive variety of sounds and styles. It effortlessly shifts from slower indie ballads like "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" to upbeat, club-ready tracks like "Get Innocuous!", and more guitar-driven anthems such as "North American Scum." This dynamic range keeps the album feeling fresh and engaging from start to finish. Listening to it has made me eager to see LCD Soundsystem live and explore more of their back catalog. Their ability to blend electronic beats with emotional depth is truly captivating. Favorite Track: "Get Innocuous!" stands out with its hypnotic rhythm and layered production, while "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" delivers a beautifully slow build that hits all the right emotional notes. Least Favorite Track: The title track, "Sound of Silver," didn’t quite click with me—it felt a bit less impactful compared to the rest of the album. Album Artwork: The cover art perfectly captures the album's vibe—cool, understated, and reflective of the music’s blend of energy and emotion. Overall, Sound of Silver is a compelling listen that balances danceable beats with introspective moments, reinforcing LCD Soundsystem’s reputation for innovation and emotional depth.
This was a fun listen.
I like all the artists and styles that soundsystem have very obviously been influenced by....and so after initially wanting to hate it, I really quite liked it. Nice
Fav: All My Friends Least Fav: Get Innocuous! More like Sound of Cowbell
The first song absolutely sucked and I thought it was going to be a long day, but then the rest got substantially better and I really enjoyed it.
Good album All my Friends is the bedt
I've never heard this before but I was pleasantly surprised. I found it better than a lot of dance music because the tracks have development, it's not just the same repetition all the way through. I still think most of the tracks are too long for sitting and listening to.
What a fun album. Probably more my type of background music than a dedicated listen for me, but one I definitely groove to.
I enjoy !!! and I guess I learned they sorta got their sound from LCD Soundsystem. I've listened to their stuff before but this album is nice and jammy. (21 known/38 new)
The songs that were good were very good but those that weren’t quite so good weren’t as good. Liked quite a lot of this but a couple of numbers just got a bit too repetitive. Not that repetitive has to be bad. All My Friends is repetitive but in a good way. A couple of tracks were repetitive but dull at the same time. Overall more good songs than duff ones.
This brings me back. I discovered LCD soundsystem early in college, and they had a chokehold on me for a minute. I haven’t listened to them in a while, and just kinda chose to ignore their comeback album. Still, this album’s fun, even for a guy who doesn’t dance. Good song structure and production, and the sequencing is perfect. Certain parts of it haven’t aged well-the 00’s millennial smarminess is kinda grating at times, but overall, good album
Minimalist dance rock. I missed this when it first came out. But really dig it. The songs are all about a minute too long. But still enjoyable.
It’s fun and funky! I caught my little butt shakin’ on more than one occasion. “All My Friends” is such a late aughts nostalgia blast.
This takes me to high school 2000s drunk in a paddock feelings that I believe the kids these days are calling indie sleaze.
# LCD Soundsystem's *Sound of Silver*: A Definitive Analysis of Post-Millennial Electronic Rock LCD Soundsystem’s *Sound of Silver* stands as a watershed moment in 21st-century music, merging dance-punk’s frenetic energy with introspective lyricism and avant-garde production. Released in 2007, James Murphy’s sophomore effort transcends its electronic foundations to explore themes of aging, urban alienation, and the fragility of human connection. Praised for its emotional resonance and technical innovation, the album redefined dance music’s intellectual potential while retaining visceral immediacy. This review dissects its lyrical depth, musical architecture, production techniques, thematic coherence, and enduring influence, contextualizing its status as a modern classic. --- ## Musical Composition and Style: Bridging Dance-Punk and Emotional Catharsis ### Genre Fusion and Instrumental Nuance *Sound of Silver* synthesizes disco, post-punk, and electronic rock into a cohesive yet eclectic tapestry. Tracks like “Get Innocuous!” exemplify Murphy’s knack for layering motorik beats with glitchy synths and distorted basslines, creating a soundscape that feels both retro-futuristic and urgently contemporary[5]. The album’s rhythmic backbone, anchored by drummer Pat Mahoney, oscillates between taut minimalism (“Sound of Silver”) and explosive crescendos (“All My Friends”), reflecting Murphy’s dual allegiance to dancefloor physicality and rock dynamism[6]. The instrumentation is meticulously detailed: kalimbas chirp beneath distorted guitars on “Us v Them,” while the motorik pulse of “Watch the Tapes” recalls Neu!’s hypnotic precision. Murphy’s vocal delivery—alternately detached and vulnerable—serves as both narrator and participant, his baritone oscillating between David Byrne-esque irony (“North American Scum”) and Bowie-like gravitas (“New York, I Love You...”)[3][5]. ### Standout Tracks and Structural Innovation “All My Friends” emerges as the album’s centerpiece, its seven-minute runtime building from a minimalist piano riff to a cathartic wall of sound. The track’s relentless forward motion mirrors its lyrical fixation on time’s inexorable passage, with Murphy lamenting, “You spend the first five years trying to get with the plan / And the next five years trying to be with your friends again”[2][5]. Similarly, “Someone Great” pairs mournful synth arpeggios with lyrics obliquely referencing the death of Murphy’s therapist, Dr. George Kamen, achieving profundity through poetic ambiguity[5]. --- ## Lyrical Themes: Mortality, Irony, and the Weight of Time ### Aging and Nostalgia Murphy’s lyrics grapple with middle-aged disillusionment, framing maturity as both burden and revelation. “All My Friends” juxtaposes youthful recklessness (“Where are your friends tonight?”) against adult regret (“If I could see all my friends tonight…”), its refrain capturing the paradox of social connectivity in an atomized age[2][5]. This existential anxiety permeates the album, from the sardonic self-awareness of “North American Scum” (“For those of you who still think we’re from England / We’re not!”) to the elegiac resignation of “New York, I Love You...”[3][6]. ### Urban Alienation and Cultural Critique The album functions as a love letter and indictment of metropolitan life. “New York, I Love You...” traces the city’s gentrification-induced identity crisis, Murphy crooning, “You’re still the one pool where I’d happily drown”[5]. This ambivalence extends to broader cultural commentary: “North American Scum” skewers U.S. cultural hegemony with tongue-in-cheek patriotism (“We’re the heirs to the glimmering world”), its irony amplified by squelching synths and cowbell-driven percussion[3][6]. --- ## Production and Sonic Architecture: The DFA’s Alchemy ### Studio Techniques and Aesthetic Choices Recorded at Long View Farm and DFA Studios, *Sound of Silver*’s production balances analog warmth with digital precision. Murphy’s decision to drape the studio in silver fabric—a gesture both aesthetic and superstitious—yielded a sound that critics described as “deep, spacious, and full-blooded,” a rebuttal to the era’s compressed, treble-heavy mastering trends[1][5]. Tracks like “Us v Them” showcase this spatial awareness, with ping-ponging stereo effects and layered percussion creating immersive depth. ### Dynamic Range and Textural Contrast The album’s production thrives on juxtaposition: the brittle drum machines of “Time to Get Away” collide with live bass grooves, while “Watch the Tapes” offsets murky low-end with crystalline high hats. This textural sophistication elevates even simpler tracks; the title song’s minimalist framework—built on a single oscillating synth line—gains emotional heft through strategic reverb and vocal processing[3][5]. --- ## Cultural Impact and Legacy: Redefining 21st-Century Dance Music ### Critical Reception and Accolades Upon release, *Sound of Silver* garnered universal acclaim, with *Pitchfork* awarding it a 9.2/10 and *Rolling Stone* ranking it #395 on their 500 Greatest Albums list[5][6]. Its influence permeated indie and electronic circles, inspiring artists like Arcade Fire and Caribou to merge danceable rhythms with lyrical introspection. The album’s Grammy nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album (losing to The Chemical Brothers) underscored its mainstream crossover potential[5]. ### Enduring Influence on Music and Culture Tracks like “All My Friends” became generational anthems, covered by Franz Ferdinand and cited by *Time* as one of the decade’s best songs[5]. The album’s thematic preoccupations—millennial anxiety, urban ennui—anticipated 2010s cultural discourse, while its production techniques influenced the lo-fi house revival. Murphy’s wry self-awareness also paved the way for irony-laden acts like Vampire Weekend, proving intellectualism and danceability weren’t mutually exclusive[6]. --- ## Critical Evaluation: Strengths and Limitations ### Strengths - **Lyrical Depth**: Murphy’s blend of wit and vulnerability elevates the album beyond dancefloor fodder. His exploration of mortality and friendship remains startlingly prescient. - **Production Mastery**: The DFA’s lush, dynamic mix rewards high-fidelity listening, with intricate details revealing themselves over time[1][5]. - **Emotional Range**: From the euphoric (“Get Innocuous!”) to the despondent (“New York, I Love You...”), the album captures life’s emotional spectrum without veering into melodrama[2][6]. ### Weaknesses - **Inconsistent Momentum**: The title track’s sparse arrangement feels underdeveloped compared to the album’s highs, its repetitive structure testing listener patience[3]. - **Niche Appeal**: Murphy’s hyper-literate references and insider irony (“North American Scum”) may alienate casual listeners seeking uncomplicated bangers. --- ## Conclusion: The Timelessness of Temporal Anxiety Seventeen years post-release, *Sound of Silver* retains its urgency because it articulates universal anxieties through singular artistry. Murphy’s genius lies in making the personal planetary—transforming midlife crises into dancefloor epiphanies, and studio experimentation into cultural commentary. While not flawless, its ambition and emotional honesty cement its status as a landmark work, proving that dance music could be as intellectually nourishing as it is physically galvanizing. In an era of algorithmic playlists and ephemeral trends, *Sound of Silver* remains a testament to art’s power to immortalize fleeting moments—and the friends who slip through our fingers.
Classic! Always enjoy LCD Soundsystem.
While I wouldn't say this is at the highest tier of songwriting, I still thorughly enjoyed my experience with the album. Favorite Track: Us v Them
Not bad, enjoyed listening to it.
Good fun.
dug this one. some killers, some radiohead influences.
lcd soundsystem strikes with incredible clarity and resolution, and its very satisfying to see an album that manages to be very fun and danceable while also being vulnerable and heartfelt. most of the dance/electronic leaning albums on this list tend to lean towards one or the other. im not sure if its a 5 though, there some tracks that did stand out as pretty weak compared the highest highs on the record. but maybe ill come around them in the future idk. ...where even are my friends tonight?
great record
Nostalgia ftw
Nice
This is a really unique album. It brings in a lot of instruments from beyond the genre to provide an interesting and dynamic sound. something something cowbells though. each song felt different and fresh. 4/5 stars.
All my friends is a 10/10 track. The rest is pretty good too. 7.5/10 Fave: all my friends
I don't much go for electronic music, but I enjoyed this one.
NY ily is definitely the standout but the rest of the album holds up.
New York I love you is such a good track.
I first heard of pavement from a Chuck Klosterman article in GQ that I read on a plane around 2005 sometime so naturally I really wanted to like them but they’ve always been more of a greatest hits band for me than a full album listen. That being said, I appreciated this album more on this listen. Still up and down but 5 or 6 really good songs. Another 3-4 tweeter for me but I’ll round up out of respect to Chuck.
4.2 Fun album
LCD Soundsystem had a great way of blending vintage electronic sounds with post-punk influences while still keeping things fresh. James Murphy’s ability to balance past and present really made them stand out. While I never got as familiar with Sound of Silver as their debut, it still carries his signature style—just with a more polished touch and less of the roughness that gave their first album its charm. Listening to it now, it definitely feels like a product of its time, capturing the mid-2000s sound.
Not sure I'd like the vocals independantly, but it works in context. Good beats.
I started off loving it, thought it dipped in the middle, but they pulled me back in with the last track. Always good to go out on a high.
My kind of dancing music Made me bounce on my butt Great way to start friday
I really enjoyed this! The later songs were my favorite.
good varied album
Awesome album, didnt realize I had a song from his on a playlist already
This album has the dance party vibes of Daft Punk (opening track) and the sentimental noise of Wilco (the outro). It doesn’t have many misses and manages to keep things varied and interesting. I definitely hear that 2000s indie sound of peers like Arcade Fire shining through. But also the continuation of new wave vibes and attitude.
Me gustó! Diferente a otros de LCD, este se siente como que más complejo, más maduro. Muy buen disco.
Somehow missed this at the time; I like it although it does go on a bit at times.
Listened to this at 4 AM because I couldn’t sleep and no it didn’t help me go to sleep. What a fantastic album. i already had all my friends saved because that’s a song I think i would have as the opening song in a movie during the morning wake up compilation. I enjoyed North American Scum and Get Innocuous as well!
Good album.
decently experimental, established such a strong nieche that almost 10 year later it is still at the forefront of it. iconic indie record.
It was just pretty alright the first listen. I didn’t know what to expect and I wasn’t ready for the light whiplash between the digestible steady songs, the ones where he does that weird half yelling thing, and the robotic and stiff ones. It definitely has no flow in that sense, like 3 different people made songs for this and they didn’t do much to coordinate. Styles aside It got better on the second listen tho. Lots of cool sounds, it’s like listening to a Blue Man Group show but they discovered a computer in addition to some spoons or PVC pipe. I think the instrumentals drag on a bit too long sometimes, but I guess it’s supposed to be dance music and I’m listening to it at the office so maybe thats on me.
4.5/5
Was more impressed with this than their newer stuff that has appeared on this list. I dunno, I just felt more of a connection here. Especially with the back-to-back of "Someone Great" and "All My Friends", which very much acts as the heart of this album. Both tracks are resonant and give off a sense of melancholy, complete with synth and piano-laden backing tracks respectively. "North American Scum" is a fun single as well, slotted right next to the aforementioned tracks. You hear a lot of musical influences here, which are then transformed into the groovy, dance-rock, indie rock sound that James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem have curated. Maybe a dud or two here, but still thoroughly enjoyed this album.
Rätt bra ändå! 7/10
LCD Soundsystem, I love you, but you're bringing me down. This guy is a real talent - most of his stuff feels really effortless. My one gripe is that on a number of his songs, he adopts this cheesy blasé attitude, like he can't even be bothered to write lyrics or perform adequately or even ad-lib well. Stupid forced rhymes. Lyrics that fall out of sync with the music on purpose and try really hard to feel like off-the-cuff, spur-of-the-moment asides. Instead, it feels like watching a stand-up comedian absolutely bomb. I'm looking at you, North American Scum (Europe has a lot of MIMES!). I'm taking a full star off for that cheesy crap. But "Someone Great" is one of my all-time favorite songs.
get innocuous: geile steigerung! lustige vogelgeräusche. und was passiert am schluss geiles mit den streichern, klingt fast nach schönberg in einem electronic song, gefällt mir sehr. time to get away: der sänger klingt wie prince. nice pausen und nices ende. north american scum: die elektronischen klänge sind mir zu dunkel, es ähnelt mir zu sehr invariablem techno, und er singt in diesem song für mich zu sehr schreiend. someone great: die soundeffekts hitten. und dass bass, singstimme, synthesizer absichtlich nicht gleich intoniert sind finde ich in diesem fall recht amüsant. all my friends: etwas hektisch them v us: zuerst wirkt es für mich auch lediglich hektisch, aber es gefällt mir, wie die mehrstimmigen vokals reinkommen und den charakter des songs verändern. danach ist es aber viel over and over again… watch the tapes ist irgendwie an mir vorbeigegangen. sound of silver: die lyrics sind hilarious und die untermalung mit dem akkord der singstimmen im hintergrund, wow. geile house-ähnliche zwischenspiele ohne lyrics. der song gefällt mir gut. new york i love you but you‘re bringing me down: ich finde grandios, dass dieser song einen ganz anderen charakter als alle anderen songs hat: klavier, singstimme (unbearbeitet und ehrlich), schlagzeug, bass, e-gitarre, nur wenige elektronische effekte.
I'd actually give it 4.5/5! It's actually so good. I love the lyrics and the beat, it's like a insanity drug. The thing is the first song is not that unique or something to keep you in the album. The first song isn't good for me and not gonna lie I was not going to complete the song because the first song didn't get my attention as the others! The other music like "watch the tapes" or one of my favorites is "Us Vs them" or "Sound of silver" Those both are my favorites! So the only bad thing about is it won't catch the people's ear with their first song.
Gets an Indica 5 star. Catchy is an understatement.
Awesome album that really holds up and is very sing-along-able which apparently goes a long way for me. I shade off from a 5
I have no previous connection to this album but it really impressed me how catchy I found the songs. Loved the funky, electronic, new wave sound. It reminded me of the Killers and Talking Heads. There was even a little krautrock mixed in. I want to re-listen with headphones. Us v Them sounds like the home depot theme.
This album is a lot like the timeline of EDM music as a whole. At first it was fucking awful, but then it got really exciting for a while and after that I felt like I was on LSD. Overall positive experience.
Really enjoyed this a lot of songs here where taken as samples from other artists
Love the song North American scum
挺好的
Easy 4 star rating here. All my friends familiar to me already, fantastic song, and Someone Great and Sound of Silver are new discoveries. The rest of the tracks are all good but some veer into what is for me irritating hipster stuff. Whole album is about nostalgia for what is lost, very melancholic.
Pretty good but not so huge on All My Friends
Never heard this before. I'm not sure why I've never listened to LCD Sound System. In any case, I really like this album. I don't think the final song (New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down) fits the rest of the album, but everything else on it is fun, engaging and energetic.
I didn't realise I had several of their tracks in my fave songs! I’m not a music expert, but Sound of Silver is one of those albums that just hits differently. It has songs that make you want to dance, think, or sometimes both at the same time. "All My Friends" feels like the soundtrack to every bittersweet moments you get in life, while "Someone Great" is surprisingly, for me, quite emotional. There’s also a lot of fun energy, like in "North American Scum," which is done with the tongue firmly in the cheek and doesn’t take itself too seriously. The whole album still feels smart and cool for it's 17 years, and even if you’re not into electronic 'old' music, you might find yourself loving it anyway, I did.
The first album I ever got for the project! But yeah, still liking this one as much as I did before. I'm a huge fan of their song Daft Punk Is Playing At My House (one of my favorite songs to sing at karaoke), so appreciating this album has more of that vibe vs american dream (which I remember being more vibey vs the dance punk of LCDs other stuff). Love the bleep bloopiness of Someone Great. The dance punk vibe of North American Scum. The Charlie Brown-esque piano that goes through All My Friends. This whole album is just positive vibes, and its nice to get something like that every once in a while.
I liked this one more than the other albums so far. Other than the last two, they were all enjoyable!
I liked the fusion of different styles, and the lyrics are deeper and personal. You can find both simple and complex tracks.
The other day I said I don't really vibe with early-2000s rock... I forgot about LCD Soundsystem. They really appeal to my neurotic American who listens to Talking Heads-brain. Have always slept on this in favor of This is Happening, but now I'm seeing this as the Fear of Music to that album's Speaking in Tongues: harder, dancier, edgier and more experimental. It works a lot of the time. Now I have one more LCD Soundsystem album to listen to.
A few dull patches (the title track is not my favorite), but two all time bangers (New York I Love You but You’re Bringing Me Down, All My Friends).
I think I like This Is Happening and american dream more which I think might be an unpopular opinion but this is still a solid album with some really solid songs. I think some people might really dislike the repetitiveness but for some reason it really gets me into a medititate flow. I love the electronic aspect of it. I started getting into post punk more last year and learned a lot of LCD Soundsystem's influence on the scene with their dance punk. This album feels more raw and I appreciate that even though there is a lot of electronic stuff on it, there are moments where things allow for some humanity such as in All My Friends, you can hear that the piano part at the beginning isn't perfectly executed. Based on the music I grew up listening to, it makes perfect sense that I would be into LCD Soundsystem since his musical influences are pretty obvious.
It’s a going out album if ever there was one
This was a nice surprise, saved a few tracks. Will likely revisit. 3.5/5
The first 6 tracks are really good. Interesting production and clever sounds make for a non-repetitive listen. The back three lack the same feel and are therefore somewhat sleepy and non-engaging. Still, overall a pretty good record. 3.75/5
LCDS has never been one of my favorite bands, but this album is undeniably stacked with some of James’ best work. Many songs here that have stood the test of time and shown up in lots of movies, etc. Almost surprised at how many of those were on this album.
Had to be in the right mood to enjoy this as much as I did. These guys can certainly make a beat and layer in interesting sounds. Appreciate people like James Murphy bringing the creativity and I really enjoy his voice. I was thinking throughout that if they sought to make more mainstream these guys could’ve been massive. I feel like New York, I love you proved me right. But maybe that would be too much of a sell out for these guys and I appreciate that.
When LCD Soundsystem plays a Tyler Buckler gets its wings. This is solid. You must be up and about to really enjoy it, otherwise the 7+ min tracks will wear on you. 4/5
I was ready to dismiss this as the peak of empty hipster blog house of the mid 00’s (even though I have a burgoneing nostalgia for that era of music). But this still bumps.
Listened 2024-12-24 @ 9:00 AM I've started listening to LCD Soundsystem in college but I haven't listened to the full album in so long. Tracks 4 and 5 are my favorite of the album.
Really enjoyed this thought it was a consistent and entertaining album with a lot of great songs and lyrics. Honestly think this is one of the best electronics in the 2000s as it connects with the rock well rather than overtake it or just add noise for the sake of it. Solid 8/10
Three great songs, especially "Someone Great," and I'll admit to enjoying the "adult dance party" vibe.
this new disco sound that LCD Soundsystem was instrumental in is mildly euphoric and deeply groovy - i'm a fan.
Loved these vibes. Sounded like a modern Talking Heads
Some great dance tunes on here, but would it hurt to use more than a single phrase repeated through the whole song? I love the punk/alternative/dance mix. It's cool. 4/5
All My Friends and Someone Great are clearly bangers and have been a playlist staple for years. I enjoyed the rest of the album - but have always had this feeling that I should be enjoying the album more. I like it but I don't love it like some people do. I'm almost there but not quite there. So its a solid 4.
Enjoyed!
The “electronic dance-punk” label guaranteed my attention and the album delivers. Fun and catchy, though some tracks too long.
8/10! song about new york stole my heart
01) Get Innocuous! - 8,5 02) Time to Get Away - 9,0 03) North American Scum - 9,0 04) Someone Great - 9,5 05) All My Friends - 8,5 06) Us v Them - 8,5 07) Watch the Tapes - 8,5 08) Sound of Silver - 8,5 09) New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down - 8,5 TOTAL: 8,72 (87/100) Current ranking: 56/389
Slow start, but once it got going I liked it. I’m four tracks in and I really like this. It sounds more like the 80s than 2007 though. I love the song “all my friends”. This is a great album. The last song does not even sound like it should be on this album, but I love it.
innocuous: songs too long shades of new york scene late 70s Television Richard Hell as well as Gang of Four XTC through a detroit motown filter my favetrax: All My Friends Sound of Silver
Great album from a band I really enjoy and fortunately got to see headline Coachella
Really liked this. Solid throughout and I enjoyed the interplay between the synthetic and real instruments. For some reason this felt more vibrant than the other LCD album I've heard and perhaps I should revisit that one.
älä ala laulaa pliis älä ala laulaa jotain paskaa anna kulkea vaan... ok alko mut ei paha viel. ok vähä pahempi nyt. ok nyt ihan hirvittävä.. 794 päivää sitten tuli albumia tältä samalta yhtyeeltä naamaan ja syytettiin milleniaali paskaksi, vihattiin ja suuttuttiin oltiin nuoria tunnollisia ja ensimmäinen ukkometso pakkomielle kohtaus tapahtui. 1 päivä tämän tapahtuman jälkeen kolikon toisella puolella huohotettiin tätä tämän päivän albumia.. ja annettiin ensimmäistä vitosta koskaan... pikku historiapläjäys siinä kiinnostuneille. sinänsä koskettavaa, mutta eihän tämä mikään mestariteos valitettavasti ole. yksi parhaista aloituksista koskaan mutta sitä seuraavat vajaa viisikymmentä minuuttia on oskilloivaa tavaraa välillä liejuvesi-chilling&wibing. no annetaan vittu neljä get innocuous
Pretty cool
This is one that definitely works best on the headphones. LCD Soundsystem have been one of my fave discoveries of this thing. How had I never heard of them before? Would like to see them live. Was considering giving this a 5 but it doesn’t quite get there. Listened to it multiple times, there are some absolute bangers here
This album was pretty familiar to me, apparently I listened to it plenty at some point! I really like it, it has its own unique spin on electronic music. A lot of fun and interesting sounds they play with, and good lyrics too. Had a great time listening again.
Real fun album. Classic LCD Soundsystem with the distinct bass/synth lines. Great all the way through.
Overall a nice sounding thing however a bit monotonous. ‘Someone great’ was indeed great, my fav on the record.
Not something I'd choose to put on all the time, but full of creativity and very involving. Some of the songs go on a bit too long for me, but I understand that's a feature as they're meant to be danced to.
Cuatro alto, eh, incluso 4'5
Loved it back in the day, still sounds great.
Very original
I wasn't the biggest fans of other albums of LCD Soundsystem because their mixture of electro pop and rock felt too forced. This album is more coherent though and actually fun. The last track about new York doesn't really fit I find.
Geht gut rein. Sehr gut rein. Nur rein damit.
****a good album. Interesting variety.
So this is where 'North American Scum' is from. I found the album got a bit boring as it went on. Lots of the same sound throughout, but I really did enjoy 'New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down.' Not what I would usually listen to, but I can tell that it's great.
This is honestly probably a five. Lots of great songs and he really defined a very specific New York sound that also has appeal outside that niche. He’s both catchy, danceable and innovative which is a rare combination. Also true: James Murphy has an extremely punchable face and reminds me very viscerally of all the smug hipsters I went to college with. I have no choice but to dock him one point for that, even though it’s completely unfair. New York I love you is a great song.
