Sound of Silver

This is music that takes several listens to grow on you but after it has, I really enjoy it. It’s almost like being “in the know” in a weird way. Like you appreciate the little notes and specific little sounds that aren’t obvious on first listen. Well I do anyway. I frequently wonder how many on this list I didn’t like or felt meh about are the same way.

Great electronic musics

Always loved this album and James Murphy in general. Probably my favorite LCD album from start to finish

I've come around on LCD Soundsystem but they're still pretty hit or miss for me. I did enjoy more songs than I disliked on this one

Perhaps the most approachable of their albums. That said, I still have to be in the right mood, and for whatever reason I'm usually not, but then a couple songs in... and they got me.

On the plus side, it's always good for me to listen to music and genres I rarely hear. This one is pretty far away from the kind of music I usually play. I listened to it all the way through, hoped it would grab me, but it just didn't. Mostly felt indifferent to it, and at times a little annoyed by it.

Wow. This sounds like absolute garbage to me. Why do people enjoy this? I really don't understand at all.

I've always heard people talk about LCD sound sound system. I've never really listened to them ever. This album wasn't bad, but it wasn't my thing. Maybe there is such a thing as too much cowbell?

a fantastic album from start to finish.l and an album this is pretty close to being perfect. Just brilliantly crafted songs. I can’t see there there being a time when I don’t keep coming back to this.

An amazing album in its own right and my favourite by LCD. On rotation at least once every couple of months with James Murphy's trademark idiosyncratic style and attention to detail it always makes me smile/dance.

Their absolute peak. Lyrically brilliant and untouchable for much of it. Pretty much no missteps and just a joy start to finish.

I love New York I Love You But You Are Bringing Me Down. But overall not one of my favourites a little derivative of some earlier rock bands and the influence of several of them is obvious I think. not the worst but not the best!

Decent electronica album.

By golly, I really did not like this album. Yuck. Some of the songwriting is good, but even then, the background instrumentals are just awful. I don't like the looping approach taken on a lot of these songs. The songs will start by slowly adding each layer, and then the song is just kind of stuck with that as it goes on. It can't really change much from then on. The melody will change, and they might add another layer, but that's it. I liked the last song okay I guess, although it was off to a rocky start. The second to last song though...ugh. Too long, and very bad.

A great rythmic album that made a cracking start to my day.Except the track "All of my friends" that just made my head ache with confusion of the piano notes.

Generally not a fan of electronic music but this is pretty good actually. North American Scum is punk rock. This isn't boring ambient stuff or just a collection of club beats. There are some songs in here.

-"Time to Get Away" gets groovy with a decent bassline -"North American Scum" is catchy. Or maybe just repetitive. It also has a cool synth rhythm -"All My Friends" has got a fast, upbeat instrumental -In "Us V Them" I like the high pitched cowbell (?) rhythm. Blame Zini if that isn't actually a cowbell -Not really my usual style, but has some solid tracks and energy that I enjoyed

A catchy dance-rock album. Into the electronica sound, but it gets a bit repetitive by the end of the album.

This list made me re-evaluate LCD Soundsystem when it generated American Dream. Prior to hearing that album, I had written this band off based on multiple listens. Sound of Silver isn't nearly as good as American Dream - and I don't think anything else in their discography is going to measure up to that album for me - but it is pretty good.

Once again they demonstrate their absolute mastery of different musical genres. This is so much more than just a "dance/electronic" album. You can party to it and also relax. Just a great, great album. Best Tracks: North American Scum; Someone Great; All My Friends

Sounds like someone took a Lou Reed or David Bowie figure and gave him an electro ethos with a hip hop kinda energy. Not something I’m inclined to love.

beast. picture this, its 2007 and there are retarded 20 year olds wearing neon clothing thinking that their piss poor nu-rave scene is a groundbreaking thing and then james murphy comes up with this timeless classic to show them that you can mix dance music and guitar bands without having to murder a 90s classic. i'm looking at you the klaxxons. one of the worst bands to have ever existed.

Muy buen álbum!

The beats are fine, but it's got a weird talk-y feeling to it that kind of takes away from the electronic coolness. Think your dad doing karaoke in a dance club.

Instrumentals were very solid, sounds like something a hipster in 2007 would think is super underground and cool

North American scum and all my friends were the only 2 songs I knew coming into this but set me up with high expectations. Get Innocuous! is a banger of an intro, really sets the tone and doesn't really feel like a 2007 song except for the female vocals, kraftwerk or similar vibes. Time to Get Away is more the vocal style I expected, cowbell-y drums and funk. I love north american scum, I listen to it several times a month if not weekly which is uncommon for me, "New York's the greatest if you get someone to pay the rent", "You see, I love this place that I have grown to know" always stick in my head about Dublin/Ireland when I think about continental europe and its better/later nightlife. someone great - Love a bit of synth when used sparingly and right and Someone Great is a great example of that, great contrast between the voice and the subject matter. "The coffee isn't even bitter Because, what's the difference?" "And it keeps coming and it keeps coming And it keeps coming 'til the day it stops" I always really like sad songs with upbeat melodies. All My Friends, poor keyboardist must be wrecked after this is played live. "You spent the first five years trying to get with the plan And the next five years trying to be with your friends again" is a great line. u vs them - "Bells!" their drummer is deadly on this track and in several others. watch the tapes - love that strummy and distorted sound that they use in several songs like this - "You, you turn 25 and now you're all out of escapes, c'mon" sound of silver - simple banger - sums up a lot of the albums nostalgia/time/aging feelings New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down - anyone want a ballad to end off here you go "But you're still the one pool Where I'd happily drown" a great love (and "hate") song to a place very high 4 but not a 5, possibly a low 5 really. I have given out a 5 I think should have been a strong 4 so will leave this at 4 but a really strong one.

Absolutely brilliant album. Iconic. Seriously good listen and nostalgic from the get go. Rescued this 1001 album process for me as I was one hip hop or folk album away from swallowing my phone so I couldn’t access this page any more. 4 stars because 5 is for a true masterpiece. It would be 4.5 if possible.

This is a FUN listen. Nothing as immediately ear catching as Losing my Edge or Daft Punk ... at my House. But this is going into heavy rotation. 4 stars

Enjoyed it far more than expected. Some great individual tracks, combined with an overall flow from start to finish. Will definitely re-visit.

Nothing too amazing, liked All My Friends but Sex is a better track. Prog rock at that length isn't my thing. Still musically interesting, lyrics are meh

J'ai été très surpris de ne pas tomber sur un album mais sur un Fast & Curious avec Hugo Clément. Pour autant je dois dire que certains moments m'ont beaucoup plu, comme par exemple celui où l'intéressé doit choisir entre les mots "réfléchir" et "agir" et qu'il répond "agir".

I really like the whole vibe of this. I was always a fan of Daft Punk is Playing At My House and this is a bunch more of the same. Even the songs that go on forever I kind of like. Would listen again.

This is an album I've already listened to, and I'll listen to it again. There is something about James Murphy's voice, his delivery, and the rest of the music that comes with it. In general I like LCD Soundsystem. I like this album too. "Someone Great" is my favorite track. On it's own, I would give "Someone Great" 5 stars. "Us vs. Them", "All My Friends", "Watch the Tapes", and "Get Innocuous!" deserve some attention as well. There are a couple of tracks that are "okay", but the album works as a whole. I would give this album 4.25 stars

Dancey, beautiful, and spunky

I like this more than I thought I would. I had previously tried this album but was being impatient and never gave it a full chance. Favorite Track : Get Innocuous! Least Favorite Track : Someone Great

The first song Get Innocuous was interesting in some places but also many times was in the verge of being boring. A little bit too much experimentation I think. The lyrics were good nonetheless. Time to Get Away - Funny in a strange way. I liked it. North American Scum - I thought the group was really from England. They made it clear they are not from England. Us v Them - Makes me want to do a trash dance. Sound of Silver - Very modern. Probably is the best track of the album. New York, I love you but you're bringing me down - a very good one.

The best album from one of the best bands of the last 20 years!

All My Friends elevates this to modern classic on its own but on a whole its a belter of an album.

If this is your style then you might like it, i find that i like other albums in this style better but still a good album but not really for me

21st May 2021 Listened to this throughout the day during an annoyingly busy Friday (normally dead). All My Friends is one of the greatest songs of the 00s as is this whole album. It's a shame that I got into LCD so late and that I've never seen them live. I hope one day they'll come back.

Вообще первая половина прокачала, душевненько так, Толкин Хэдс напоминает опять же. Ну и там вокалист смешно иногда отыгрывает, как в North America Scum. Но второй не так сильно проникся, какая-то слишком уж репетативная, может надо многократно прослушивать, чтобы начать части различать. Но закрывашка классная тоже, как по мне. В целом на первых 4-5 песнях думал даже 9/10 дать, но всё же предпоследние песни чутка смущают, особенно Us v. Them, ну не стоит ей такой длинной и повторяющейся быть. По текстам тоже забавные моменты заметил, здоровая доля иронии — это всегда к столу. В целом на 8/10, думаю, сойдусь.

В Max Payne 3 было пару миссий-флешбеков, где действия разворачивались в нуарном Нью-Йорке вместо бразильских фавел. Контраст, что они производят, должен привносить разнообразие, дополнять происходящее. Мною же это воспринималось как издевательство, мол "Чувак, смотри, мы умеем, могли бы всю игру сделать приятной и интересной... но не захотели, хы-ы-ы-ы". На этих миссиях понимаешь, что смена сеттинга в триквеле - это просто лютый кал в рамках серии. Казалось бы, при чём тут ключи? Вроде очевидно, что последний трек альбома... похож на нормальную музыку. Перед этим ты почти смиряешься, что вот это монотонное повторение неприятных звуков и рандомных фраз может в определённый момент определённому человеку немного доставить. Но потом начинается последний трек и понимаешь "Ой не, нахуй это дерьмо, я ебал просто, нахуй этот кал, когда люди уже давно нормальную музыку придумали?". А, наверное, "чтобы расширять рамки восприятия, создавать что-то, отличное от созданного"? Не, ну ребят, давайте вы этот монотонный кал на фоне для себя как-нить наклепаете, а в топ уже чё-нить нормальное выкатите, а? Шоб вот включить, и весело. Или грустно. Или одухотворённо. А не скучно. Для последнего у меня есть "Две минуты тишины" за авторством Джона Леннона и Йоко Оно, захочется - на репит поставлю. Вышесказанное характерно для вступительного трека и с 5 по 8. В 2-4 всё же можно найти адекватные элементы. Но отличной музыкой назвать - вряд ли. North American Scum - хорошей, ладно. Отличной можно назвать лишь последний трек. Но это всё не вытягивает альбом даже до середняка.

Experimental, interesting sounds. Heard of them before but never really listened. Knew the tracks North American Scum and Someone Great. Someone Great is actually a really lovely track, listened to it a few times over. Overall all enjoyable, easy 3.

murphy's hitting his stride here. the sophomore effort features less improvisational lyrics and much richer production from S/T. SOS has some of his best songwriting in All My Friends and Someone Great-emotional bangers. and it's still got the dance vibes on Get Innocuous, NA Scum, and Us v Them. overall a remarkably balanced album. i tend to think This Is Happening is the high water mark, but I love this album and appreciate a reason to revisit it.

When this was big among the cool kids, I used to think it was a bit repetitive. Now I'm a bit older and think I understand dance music better, and the themes of this album. This is middle aged dance punk and at 36 in 2021 it was a melancholy delight. A

Great album. It’s an interesting mix of fun danceable (get innocuous, tone to get away, North American scum) juxtaposed with a few emotionally resonant masterpieces (Someone Great, All My Friends, New York I Love You). I hear prince, I hear electronic, I hear punk, I hear tribal rhythms. The repetitive style of the songs either put you in a dance trance or hammer home the reverence. I want to give this a 5, it deserves it, but I think Sound of Silver and Watch the Tapes, could’ve been left off for a perfect album. I’m stuck between 4-5. Might have to sleep on it.

The year is 2007. It's summer. I just turned 21, built myself a fixie, and am living in Seattle in a party house. At any time of any day or night you can find me at one of the 4 following places: Zeeks Pizza. Riding my fixie around the city. Crashing dance parties. Sitting on my front stoop drinking a bum jug of burgundy and vibing to this album. It was a summer of self discovery. Weed, mushrooms, ecstacy. I fingered strange women, parachuted envelopes of molly, turned every pair of jeans into jorts, smoked filterless Lucky Strikes in softpacks rolled into my tshirt sleeves. I had neon sunglasses. I was a huge fucking chode but was having the goddamn time of my life. And LCD Soundsystem was there every sweaty, drunk, sunny, indulgent step of the way. This album was anthemic. It played at house parties, bonfires, sunny day bike rides, dive bar patios. It fueled my self-indulgence and was a comforting backing track as I eschewed my religious upbringing and discovered there is nothing inherently sinful in the pursuit of pleasure. I don't think I'm interested in reliving 2007 but I'm glad for the memories. Thanks for helping me get laid so much, James Murphy.

I really liked it. I thought some songs went on a little long especially towards the end like Sound of Silver but they were all good. Some favorites as of now are All My Friends, New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down, and North American Scum. Strong 8/10

Great album. The instrumental music is instrument and the almost discordant vocals make the songs sound unique and interesting. All wrapped up nicely with the final song, which is just a classic. I enjoy music which speaks about things other than than cliche topics, LCD Soundsystem definitely does that.

classic LCD, better than I remember it when I first listened like... 9years ago or so. The mix of electronics + normal rock instrumentation make an almost playful sound. Probably inspired Vulfpeck in a way

A modern classic

Indie dance music for people who don’t like indie dance music.

It's well written, performed and produced but I found the energy quite linear and the songs dragged on a bit. There isn't much in the way of dynamics, very little change of pace/energy and nothing particularly catchy in terms of choruses. I'm also struggling to score on significance/legacy, particularly as it is a relatively recent album. This all sounds very critical but, In the face of overwhelmingly positive reviews, I felt it deserves a bit of extra justification. I actually don't think it's bad album, it's just not my vibe. 6/10

Enjoyable. Provoked discussion. Still feel like a lot of their tunes tease something more and then don't quite deliver, but enjoyable nonetheless. Would be a 3.5 if the masses weren't idiots and voted to keep this archaic system we have.

Soundtrack-able sounds and a range. Doesn't feel super cohesive but has some bangers.

such a cool album, definitely a nostalgia trip. New York I Love You singlehandedly brings it from an 8 to a 9/10. my main criticism is that some of the songs feel a little too drawn out, but its still great

Not listened to this for a while! The album to convert indie kids to dance music. I can see why as they blend indie rock attitude with clattering dance beats all with added humor. Along with The Avalanches (who fully converted me to the merits of sampling) LCD sound system are the best of their genre and this is a pretty great album by a hugely talented band. All my friends is an absolute masterpiece but its the dance music parts i struggle with a bit, the repetitive beats 'over and over again' and it becomes dull. I was almost converted. I like it but I don't love it adn probably never will. Unless anyone's got some pills... 3/5

One of my favourite albums of all time. Just perfect from start to finish. All My Friends was a tough listen during lockdown. So many great memories associated with that song in particular.

Pretty much a perfect album

7/10. I didn't have super high expectations for an hour long electronic album, but I never really found myself disliking this one. There were bits where it felt a bit repetitive, sure, but not so long as to be unpleasant. That said, there were also no stand-out moments that make me want to rate it above a 7, so here I stand.

Not my style, pero chido. Sí me gustó en general, sobre todo las de atmosfera eterea como Someone Great (mi fav de este disco), pero le adelanté a varias porque son loops muy largos con muy pocas variaciones, lo cual aquí no me parece necesariamente mal, pero no en todos los casos lo aguanto. Mood: me suena a coldplay desde mi ignorancia de esta (banda?) pero con una propuesta mucho menos basic que colplay.

Generic 6/10, didnt age that well

Groovy record with lots of references and a bunch of really strong songs.

Highlights: North American Scum I probably wasn't really aware of LCD Soundsystem outside of Us V Them from Burnout: Paradise, and that's generally a song I skip ("Us....Them....Over and over again" over and over again). I did enjoy North American Scum, and can appreciate the self-deprecating humor, it's clear that LCDSS generally doesn't take themselves too seriously. Low-fi dsynths and indie-rock vibes should be more interesting than this, but it just isn't. Not really a fan.

They don't do brevity, do they? Not sure I really get on board with combining Kraftwerk and Moroder with post-millennial irony. There's a kind of lassitude that squats at the heart of this project that turns me off. The music isn't good enough to pull me back. Repetition has its place as a tool for creating an ambience, but alas, that place is not on an LCD Soundsystem album.

I never listened to LCD Soundsystem before, even knowing the band by the name. It's a strange album that sounds "strange" to me. First I thought that it was "too much experimental", but I like experimental music too, so this is not the problem. In short, I didn't like it too much, but It had some very good songs, like the last one, for example. I'll not listen to it again in the next weeks, but maybe it deserves a second try some day.

They are not bad, I like the singer's voice style, reminds me a bit of the Cure and Jack White from the White Stripes. Some good songs in the album but overall, I think it lacks depth.Also, the songs are too long and repetitive.

Excelente disco, son muchos de los sonidos y ruiditos que me pueden fascinar en la música del siglo XXI. Agradecido por recordármelo porque lo tenía muy olvidado (años, años sin escucharlo). Su canción final me parece un cierre muy apagado, pero como de ya se acabó el chou, alv. No hay skips, aunque quizá "Time To Get Away" fue mi favorita por ahora, pero no me atrevo a afirmarlo definitivamente, pues todas tienen momentos grandiosos para mí. 10/10

Disco de 2007 con reminiscencias al pasado, quizá por el auge de los sonidos retro traídos por la tendencia hipster que pegaba en aquel momento. Agradable y ameno de escuchar, aunque sin llamar demasiado la atención.

It's interesting that I hate that punk chorus sing along shit, but when LCD Soundsystem does it, it fees ironic. I like this. I've heard most of it. The final track hits particularly hard for me.

I’ve put off listening to this “band” right up until about an hour ago and for no real good reason other than it just seemed like something I wouldn’t like. But I did! It’s almost as if my blanket generalization based upon absolutely nothing turned out to be kind of a dumb thing to do. Huh. Anywho, I like the mix of melody to beat and the whole 80s vibe of a lot of this. I will be exploring more of the catalog now.

Don't have eloquent enough words to describe how great this album is. Entwined with crystal clear memories of the euphoria of dancing with friends at their gigs and hazier memories of dancing in fields at sunrise.

A gem

Really enjoyed parts of this album. Very modern, with a mix of electronic and alt rock

Heard the name. Not familiar with the sounds.

I didn't expect to like this. I don't usually go for electronic music, but this had a lot more heart than what I've heard in this genre before. That heart probably comes from the inclusion of lyrics to give breaks to the heavy, and constant, techno sound. All leading up so a nice soft piano song really worked for me.

Sharp and funky and emotional and cool all at the same time.

First impression (first song) makes me think of Fatboy Slim. Very produced, very repetitive. Things didn't change after that. I didn't hate everything about this, but the repetitiveness wore me out and I got tired of it. Tried out every song, but didn't listen to each one entirely.

Great album and band, I loved Time to Get Away, All my Friends, and others had some great beats to listen to.

Some good tunes

Probably the best LCD Soundsystem, at least in terms of consistency. Hard to choose a rating, might give it a 4.5 if I had the option, as it trails off a bit at the end. Even if it's not perfect, it's really up there.

I enjoyed this much more than I expected. I never could get into this band but having to listen to the old album helped me figure out why people are into this band.

A familiar classic

You know, this started strong and I was like, "heck yeah, this is four stars easy!" but dang does it ever get repetitive as hell. Halfway through, my ears were exhausted. An few songs later, I wanted to stab things. By the time I was finished, I was mostly just angry that there is more than one LCD Soundsystem album on this list because that means that I have to do this again at some point. Also someone needs to have their cowbell confiscated until they can prove that they can be responsible with it.

11/30 Really enjoyable dance Electro-pop album, it's got that late 2000s optimistic, positive sound to it. Standout Tracks: Get Innocuous!, North American Scum, Us V Them, Sound of Silver, New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down

This is pretty cool for something I don't usually care about. I think this is the second time I've said this about an LCD sound system album here, so props I guess. Only real criticism is that it's too long and gets kinda repetitive. 3/5.
